Reviews for The Lansdowne

Review 1:Ceiling was leaking one morning in the bathroom, fire alarm went off one morning. Paying for parking, spent almost £20 on parking at the hotel for four days. Waiting at the front door for staff after about 10 minutes ringing the door bell

Review 2:Nice room, good view, comfy bed. Great location.

Review 3:Key/lock required on balcony doors. cleaning of balcony--previous resident of room had dropped feta cheese ?- a bit offputting.

Review 4:We were made very welcome & were given a very nice room with a balcony. All was clean & tea/coffee are in room

Review 5:The bathroom could have been nicer; there was a faint funny smell and a weird step into the shower.

Review 6:Friendly reception, who let us leave our luggage behind before our room was ready. Paid 5 pounds extra for a seaside view, which was worth it purely for the spacious room (no 22). Nice location too.

Review 7:Bathroom was very cramped, the toilet was on a diagonal to fit in, I have never seen that before! Communal areas were tatty and had a musty smell. When I arrived the first room I was given had a jammed door. The chap from reception came upstairs and pushed and kicked it, swearing violently. I was eventually given another room downstairs at the back of the building. I think it was near the cleaning cupboard as it was quite noisy in the morning.

Review 8:The room itself was pleasant, clean and comfortable. The location was good, on the seafront close to the town centre and station.

Review 9:The bathroom was dirty / mildewy, the decor was tired, the furniture was cheap and some of it was broken. The staff were not very welcoming. Will not return.

Review 10:Location was ok- walking distance from the station.

Review 11:I spent the whole night from 2.30am onwards being woken up by a creaking door right outside my room and people shouting running up and down the stairs and coming and going all night. The room was not clean!

Review 12:There were old cigarette butts on our balcony that had not been cleaned. this is only a small criticism.

Review 13:The proximity to everything and sea views. Hotel room was clean and represented good value for money.

Review 14:Some of the rooms on the website pictures look small, but the ones with a balcony look a decent size so this is why I chose that room option

Review 15:Had room 4, lovely newly decorated room with all the facilities you need including hairdryer and fridge. Paid a little more for a balcony and sea view so was hoping for a decent size room to go with it and was not disappointed. Very comfy bed and even though we didn't leave the room until around 12.30pm on our second day, housekeeping still came in and made the bed and replenished the tea and coffee. Overall lovely stay

Review 16:The room wasn't as clean as it could have been. There were what appeared to be bloodstains on the window frame near the top. It was evident that a new curtain rail had been recently installed, perhaps somebody cut themselves while doing this. I don't like to think of an alternative reason, especially as there was evidence that the door lock had been forced at some point. Couldn't sleep too well because of this. Also, the bathroom floor was icy cold.

Review 17:Loved the location, had a small terrace overlooking the sea. The room was nice and warm when we arrived.

Review 18:The bed & pillows uncomfortable, side light switches too far away from the bed, shower took time to get warm. Hairdryer has no lead to pull out, restricted length. Had drinks both night in bar and he charged different prices each time, not tallied up to what on price list, plus he said he charged for doubles, rum, when we didn't ask for this. Breakfast on 2nd morning, I didn't get what I asked for, 4 bacon and tomatoes, got 2 bacon, tomato and egg, I'm elergic to egg, only ate bacon. Asked for white toast and got brown. Lady with blonde hair, who checked us in was lovely and helpful, but never saw her on Sun when I make a complaint to a bloke.

Review 19:Beig local to town & seafront

Review 20:No parking, shower temperature impossible to control. Ranged from cold to boiling. Broken light on table not PAT tested (2 months expired)

Review 21:Location. Sea view, friendly staff

Review 22:I had hoped to have a bath from looking at the photos of the hotel, but we only had a shower in our room. However, the shower was very powerful and there was plenty of hot water.

Review 23:Breakfast was excellent. Room was freshly decorated and had great sea views - Room No. 4. Staff were very helpful. Shower was really good.

Review 24:Location, excellent no more than 5min walk to pubs, restaurants etc. Underground public car-park 2 seconds from hotel. Locked at night so secure. £7per 24hrs. Comfy bed, balcony, good shower.

Review 25:Excellent value for money. Bed comfortable and room clean. Family run and very friendly and welcoming. Great location as people beach just over the road. Good location for exploring Local area. Breakfast delicious too!

Review 26:The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The location was excellent - easy to get to from the train station and close to the White Rock Theatre. Hotel decorated to a high standard and a wonderful breakfast.

Review 27:Hastings was a bit too noisy with too much of a fun fair atmosphere for our likings.

Review 28:Hotel is brilliantly located close to sea front and staff if very friendly. Rooms are nice and comfortable.

Review 29:Bathroom very small and the siclione very dirty around the shower. Curtains very poor quality. Very noise room at the back.

Review 30:Staff very friendly Common areas very clean.

Review 31:Single beds in our twin room a little narrow to normal beds, room was good size so don't know why small beds. En-suite bathroom is cramped too.

Review 32:Location is excellent with easy pay parking outside. Breakfast was plenty and tasty with good selection. The Lithuanian manageress was very welcoming, a great advert for the hotel. Would definitely return.

Review 33:The door to the room was rather odd. It was more like a door in a corridor. It opened outwards and had a window covered with a curtain and no proper door latch. The door to the bathroom had no latch or lock. The switch to the light over the bed was so high it was not possible to switch off the lights without getting out of bed.

Review 34:The staff were very friendlky and helpful. The bathroom was a good size and the room was very clean.

Review 35:View from window was on to back streets - not very nice. Room was ok not the best for a 3 *.

Review 36:Location was best thing about the hotel. Might have been a lot better with sew view. Didn't have breakfast.

Review 37:Very small rooms couldnt even sit on the toilet without being squashed between wall and bath . Couldnt keep the shower mixers just warm had to be very cold or very hot. Some bulbs not working . But for the money i suppose it was ok . Staff didnt look like they actually worked there . No uniforms or id

Review 38:Not a lot

Review 39:Unusual room door, could be improved. Location was not too pleasant. Near the sea but becomes seedy late at night. Prices are quite steep for the quality, however it seems to be in line with other hotels in the area.

Review 40:Adequate room, nice bathroom.

Review 41:Mattress not great & no fitted bottom sheet, TV did not work (didn't bother me as wi-fi great) & light above mirror in bathroom did not work.

Review 42:Great see view room & 5 minute walk from where I was going. Great Free Wi-Fi.

Review 43:I think that breakfast should be included in price.

Review 44:Exceptionally clean, bright, warm and comfortable. Breakfast good, plenty of options for everyone. Staff very friendly and helpful

Review 45:The only downside was that there were not enough accessible power points. It was either under the table to change from jug to charging the phone or on the floor.

Review 46:The view is wonderful as well as the staff. Breakfast was good too.Good wifi and a very comfortable bed. I was very happy there.

Review 47:We were placed on the 4th floor with a seaview. The stairs were extremely steep and uneven . Both myself and my partner have knee problems . We were then informed that the lift doesn't work . No reduction was offered Then were told there is no food as a refit was imminent. Again no reduction

Review 48:Only stayed one night sodifficult to say really

Review 49:We liked the view to the ocean. We wanted a front facing room. Fortunately we booked the last room. th view made the room very special for us. We could look along the beach front to the east.

Review 50:Room not made up on arrival quickly rectified, free drink offered, guest in above room decided to have a bath at 2am which woke myself and granddaughter it was like sleeping under a waterfall, didn't help that loft hatch was slightly ajar, very disappointed they no longer provide breakfast in the room

Review 51:balcony and sea view, really pleasant staff I have been here before and only come if I can have a room with a view plus balcony

Review 52:One of our rooms on ground floor abit odd & found it very noise at night

Review 53:Lovely lad on desk when we booked in & worked very long hours but alway cheerful .

Review 54:The smoke alarm in the room was beeping intermittently throughout the night so didn't get much sleep. The toilet seat was broken. The shower head was dirty. The waste in the shower emitted a horrible smell. Did not dare use the shower!

Review 55:The location of the property is good as it's very central

Review 56:Couple more hangers in the wardrobe would have been nice. Bed could have been longer but at 6ft 3" I'm never an easy fit in a single bed room :)

Review 57:Real close to town center and good coffee shops, also easy walking distance to Old Town restaurants and bars. Great seafront views. Really nice updated bathroom and shower.

Review 58:the room was terribly small the door didn't feel safe once closed there was a gap between frame and door!! noisy I found it very difficult to sleep. in general the hotel is very shabby and needing some TLC.

Review 59:the hotel was on the sea front

Review 60:Our bed was two single beds pulled together. Was comfy but in the middle was uncomfortable.

Review 61:Staff are welcoming and really friendly. We asked for a taxi to be ordered and he had rang and watched out for it coming. We was shown our room and told about all the facilities. Very happy with our stay.

Review 62:Curtain not long enough in bedroom to keep out light. We were up early to explore but nice to have full curtains

Review 63:Less than 10 min from train n old town.very helpful staff. Took in our bags far ahead if our room being ready n kept them safely long after vacating the room. Excellent WiFi. Didn't have breakfast.

Review 64:our two rooms were on the top floor; very few power points. Shower in one room difficult to control temp wise but when I reported this on checkout someone was sent straight up to investigate.

Review 65:Immaculately clean rooms. Wonderful sea views. Old school lift. Corby trouser press in every room.

Review 66:Our room was at the back of the hotel directly below our window was a kebab shop, so you can imagine what the smell was like in our room also there is a club behind and was very loud around three o'clock fighting shouting etc. Hotel was very dark the bulb had blown on the stairs so pitch black as we was carrying our bags to our room dated dingey rooms £70 for the night appauling price for what we had would be better off in a travel inn.

Review 67:Location was good that's about it.

Review 68:Shame the 1st floor room didn't have a mini-fridge. Room on 3rd floor, due to being higher up in the building; shower not very strong and room very hot. Fans needed. Lift to higher floors was slow and outdated.

Review 69:Booked 1 single with balcony on 1st floor. Great view, excel strong shower, comfortable room with tv and tea-making facilities. 2nd room was on the 3rd floor, sea view, small fridge, clean room and tea-making facility. Staff very friendly and opened the main door in the early hours (6 am) straight away.

Review 70:The only downside could be parking - although we had no problem - parking meter charges apply between 9 & 6

Review 71:The location and wonderful sea view! So close to the town centre!!

Review 72:Bed a bit soft. The shower was appalling. all looks great but taps so stiff it it is impossible to control the water. And major ssues with the unreliable heat and pressure. Boiling then cold. Could not have a proper shower here. Would like management to take a shower in room 27!

Review 73:Responsive staff, really nice location on the sea front. Even though we had a back room, there was an interesting view. Super breakfast freshly cooked. Quiet.

Review 74:Staff were very rude, lift was cramped and very slow, was told to hurryup getting out even though we had paid £20 to stay later, the cleanerswere rude even though they hadn't got round to our room, maybe theywouldn't have been so rude if the money Eason there pocket!!! Inever moan about any accomadation but came away feeling annoyed, and thebathroom was dirty someone else's hair all in the shower

Review 75:Beds were comfortable

Review 76:better quality toilet roll would be appreciated mushrooms at breakfast would be nice

Review 77:no fuss at reception breakfast staff friendly and helpful toilet leak fixed very quickly

Review 78:The bed was very lumpy.

Review 79:Staff were fantastic, very friendly welcoming and always available. Fantastic location and view of the sea front. Very comfortable well appointed room.

Review 80:No bad experience at all. But one thing to note is that the rooms overlooking the sea are close to a very busy road so the noise from the road is noisy, but the view is fab! Worth it though as it took about 3 minutes to walk to the beach!

Review 81:Michael was extremely helpful and friendly without being at all intrusive. The other staff were also very polite and helpful. The hotel is extremely central to the main town. My room was a good size and very clean with a fab view.

Review 82:It was very noisy during the night. The floor above the ceiling creaked badly and the occupant arrived late and walked constantly back and forward waking us up and keeping us awake.

Review 83:The room was very comfortable and well equipped and the view excellent.

Review 84:Twin room, back of the property overlooking the rear of shops/bars and the rubbish bins. Lift very small and a constant lurch between the second and third floor.

Review 85:Very clean. Fabulous location.

Review 86:Room was very small and parking was a slight issue. Can use underground car park outside hotel for £1 overnight but wasn't keen on leaving car there all night!

Review 87:Location

Review 88:Showering was a problem, no water pressure on the 4th floor, tried to tell the person at the desk, but he was not so concerned about it. Hotel has character, but too many lack of details by the remodeling....a shame for a beautiful building.

Review 89:location was good

Review 90:Thick dust in cups had to be changed - bathroom door requested to be cleaned Duvet double size in single duvet cover Payment taken before we checked in!

Review 91:Poorly decorated, basic diy type repairs on bathroom lock with sharp edges, sticky dirty carpet, badly repaired widow ledges, sticky tacky info folder.I was in room 22 and my friend was in room 14 both £75 without breakfast but 14 smaller with no chairs and one widow, room one third smaller then 22 but both had sea views. Lift was ridiculously small.Would never go back, overall shabby and poorly maintained with low level cleaning.

Review 92:Sea view, clean sheets and decent bed.

Review 93:Poor furniture in the room. There was no door on the only wardrobe which had no draws. In fact very little draw space at all. Our room was clean but needed attention.

Review 94:Friendly staff. Excellent shower. Comfortable beds. Super location.

Review 95:Room was tiny, long thin bathroom with toilet in the middle that was very difficult to use as there was no space. Same for sink. Smell of takeaway coming into the room all night. Had to pay on arrival, which no hotels do. Although having stayed I can now see why.

Review 96:The one member of staff we saw on arrival was friendly.

Review 97:There was no lift. The rooms although very clean were very basic and needed TLC. The door handle missing of wardrobe. The hairdryer was fixed to window frame with a large mirror located too far away. Although one beer pump in the bar was not in use. No one used the bar which was such a shame.

Review 98:Staff were brilliant, very friendly and helpful

Review 99:I thought the price should have included breakfast.

Review 100:The staff were friendly. The location was perfect. The room was comfortable but some balcony chairs would have been nice.

Review 101:The long black hair in the bathroom basin !

Review 102:Ideal location. We paid extra for a seaview, this was uninterrupted. However it also overlooked a very busy road.

Review 103:the only thing it was not air conditioned but the sea breeze kept it comfortable

Review 104:I was facing the channel and it was a beautiful view. The staff was very helpful I had to get in late every nite and the reception staff was very accomodating even though I had to wake them from their sleep Thanks Randy and Mike

Review 105:No bad experience at all but if I had to find a negative it would be the slightly dated decor.

Review 106:Friendly, helpful staff. Excellent standard of cleanliness, especially the bathroom and the sheets and towels. Extremely good position. Good choice of breakfast and the cooked breakfast was of high standard. Good parking.

Review 107:Had problems with shower tray being blocked and door from room tobalcony being difficult to open Both resolved asap by owner andmaintenance

Review 108:Wonderful sea views with balcony. Left luggage facilities at hotel andvery helpful staff

Review 109:Shower was terrible. Either scolding hot or freezing cold. Could barely turn taps and taps all moved from wall when tried.

Review 110:Location was good and man on reception was helpful in assisting where best to park. Also 24hr reception so nice to be able to come in to an open door later at night.

Review 111:I found the stairs a little hard to use some times, but I do understand that to install lifts could be tricky. Therefor when I do return, I will be booking rooms number 1or2

Review 112:All of the staff are fantastic, from reception to the room maids to waiting staff and chefs. If I ever return to Hastings I would definaitely stay at the Landsdowne

Review 113:it was dirty electrical equipment hadnt been tested since 2011;the carpets were dirty; plaster missing cracks in walls and ground in dirt; feet stuck to carpet; windows were so dirty you couldnt see through them; slept on top of bed as the place was so dirty didnt want to get in bed

Review 114:leaving it;

Review 115:There was nothing to dislike about this hotel.

Review 116:This hotel was situated in a very convenient location with easy access to the town center of Hastings and the seafront. We particularly liked our room which overlooked the seafront giving excellent views and the bathroom with the walk in shower. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful and made our stay very enjoyable.

Review 117:Unfriendliness, lack of welcome.

Review 118:Greeted with request for payment instead of welcome, or even just 'hello'. Man at reception in paint stained filthy clothes spoke little English. Room clean, if small, and with good view. I wouldn't come again, but I suppose it was reasonably priced and central.

Review 119:not enough info given when booked by phone should have explained that only took half the payment when paid online.

Review 120:Nice room and friendly service breakfast was very good. Town close by.

Review 121:Humping your luggage upstairs when a lift was noted in the facilities.

Review 122:Excellent sea view, and free parking from 4pm to 11am the following day. Proximity to Old Town and restaurants.

Review 123:Rooms were all the same price but two of my friends had to check out after the first night due to noise from the road at the back and the fact that their en suite was too small to be accessible. Our group had to keep moving our cars because of local parking restrictions, which was inconvenient.

Review 124:Clean

Review 125:The beds really were a little narrow. The duvet was not wide enough once it had a body underneath it ! (and we aren't large people).

Review 126:Really friendly welcome and very helpful with all our needs. Breakfast excellent.

Review 127:Totally splitting hairs , but a bigger ironing board would not go a miss.

Review 128:The chap on the front desk (I think his name was Michael) could not be more helpful , and when I stay in Hastings again it will be at the Lansdowne.

Review 129:It was rated on the internet as a 4 star, no way was this so 2/3 at best. Parking was also difficult.

Review 130:The breakfast was really good, the room was clean and comfortable, basic.

Review 131:1. Black mould in bedroom 2. Shower Rail held together with gaffa tape subsequently fell apart. 3. Male receptionIst withheld parking permits from us until we asked even though I informed him we had a car.

Review 132:We were met by an uninterested scruffily dressed person who never introduced himself wanted the money for the room before we had even saw it . We had a leaking toilet poorly furnished room.breakfast was over cooked, then we were chased down the street by a man with one arm who was saying we hadn't paid I found the whole experience quite unberlivable .oh and before I forget the bannister on the third floor was very loose and unsafe

Review 133:Beds comfy conveiniant for the prom

Review 134:room not suitable to charge £70 budget room no window view had frosted glass overlooked back yard full of rubbish next to kitchen awful smell ensuite if you could call it that was so small no tonic water or lemonade at the bar to have when ordering a gin

Review 135:Great location overlooking the sea front

Review 136:Breakfast is £7.50 reasonable but overcooked bacon stale coffee and not well browned toast. May be better to go to local cafes !!

Review 137:Refurbished small room but with a great sea view and balcony. Fine for a short stay. Quiet if window closed

Review 138:The concierge failed to mention the lift so we had to lug our luggage up quite a lot of stairs. There was a dip in the bed which I rolled into a few times :)

Review 139:The location is great

Review 140:Lift was very small, and room was on the fourth floor bedroom felt as if it was originally a corridor and they are trying to squeeze in as many room as possible

Review 141:The hotel is in need of an make over, it's very tired and the entrance is not very enticing.

Review 142:Hotel is in a great location, with lovely views. Staff very friendly and helpful.
