Reviews for La Fregate Hotel
Review 1:Really hard to find at night in the dark with no signposting-food service was slow and food not good value for money
Review 2:rooms was splendid beautiful and clean
Review 3:The receptionist could have told us more on arrival, such as the restaurant is located downstairs and to walk into town go via the door downstairs and through the garden!
Review 4:The room was lovely clean and comfy. The views form the balcony were just great. Breakfast superb.
Review 5:Steps through the garden to the town are well thought out but potentially treacherous in wet conditions, as no hand rail; suggest Reception offer pencil torches to guests and a disclaimer
Review 6:2 narrow roads lead to a hill side car park and the hotel entrance. Warm welcome and out of season upgrade to a massive bedroom with ensuite and balcony. Friendly staff, lovely restaurant/breakfast room, 5 minutes walk through the gardens into town
Review 7:In my single room the armchair was not very comfortable and the mattress was either very soft or well-used. I like to relax with a book, I could not find a comfortable place to sit for very long.
Review 8:Staff were friendly and capable, food was excellent and everywhere was very clean.
Review 9:The interior designer could have made the rooms a little more classical and not as starkly modern, leather blinds are not our style. The room was however very spacious as was the bathroom.
Review 10:The staff were helpful and attentive The situation of the Hotel, it is in a quiet area but close to the harbour and shops The restaurant service, and the food, were excellent. Dinning there is an occasion to be remembered.
Review 11:All good
Review 12:Beautiful room, quiet and spacious. Lovely decor and shower.long balcony with wicker chairs. cosy but bright restaurant and bar. Food very good.fabulous views over St peter port & out to the islands but just a 15 min walk through the garden into town.perfect.
Review 13:Though the hotel was only a few minutes away from the centre of town, was is not shown or explained that to access the road to town you have 65 steps from hotel to road level or if you go by road route there is a steep slope, not very good for partially or fully disabled person.
Review 14:the rooms were very good, the view from the bedroom over the bay / sea is excellent
Review 15:Excellent location, wonderful staff, beautiful room, spectacular view. Breakfast was a delight, yes you have to wait a short while but it is well worth it. Freshly cooked, good quality ingredient.
Review 16:No bad experience. Trivial matters were speedily dealt with bŷ excellent staff.
Review 17:Quiet and yet very friendly and naturally helpful staff. Welcoming and peaceful room, pleasant balcony.
Review 18:I didn't like that I had to leave after one night! I would have liked to stay longer :)
Review 19:Staff, location, room, food, everything exceeded my high expectations. I will certainly return and recommend this hotel .
Review 20:Curtains in bedroom ,however understand they are undr review. We were in room 115
Review 21:Efficient check in,very comfortable room with good view.enjoyed all meals,breakfast,lunch and dinner.Room service prompt.Great dry martini....Stired!
Review 22:We found the 65 steps up the hill from the street below a bit stressful but not all the hotel's guests suffer from heart conditions as we do. We did not find out what the 'Turn Down Service ' was really about until part way through the week. We assumed it was similar to that found in the USA but later found out it was more beneficial.
Review 23:The attention to detail by the staff and the excellent restaurant.
Review 24:The staff are very willing but one or two struggle with the English language.
Review 25:Location is ideal with stunning views. The dining experience is exceptional.
Review 26:This is our third visit. The new restaurant manager was obviously displeased that we moved tables at breakfast, due to the fact we were seated in front of the kitchen air conditioning unit, which was freezing). He took our breakfast order and our tea and coffee were not served, until we chased for them three times and after observing other couples arriving later, who were served immediately. Due to his non processing of our Breakfast, this was served very late to us. This caused for the staff to fly around us clearing up and changing tables for the Guensey Airshow Lunch whilst we were still eating breakfast - which we considered to be impolite. Le Frigate is becoming more corporate driven to the exclusion of its Guests.
Review 27:The location is key. We really like Le Frigate. The restaurant is excellent and most of the staff friendly and helpful.
Review 28:Loud music from bar, our room above it. Loud traffic noise as windows needed to be open, no air con. Difficult to plug in kettle/laptop/phone Only 6 hangers in wardrobe. No seats or loungers on terrace gardens. Reception staff could have been a little more informative ie. It would have been nice to know to ask for a table by the windows at dinner and tell us there was going to be a loud party in the bar below our room the first evening we arrived.
Review 29:Comfortable bed, big room, lovely views, really nice restaurant for both breakfast and dinner.
Review 30:The only bad thing about the hotel is the path through the gardens to the town. The steps are uneven and irregular, there are no handrails to get hold of which is not good for people such as my wife who suffers from poor vision and can stumble quite easily in such conditions.
Review 31:every member of staff always happy, friendly, extremely polite and always very helpful if you needed something. We cannot praise this hotel enough as we have stayed in other hotels in St Peter Port before of the same or higher rating and this one was definitely the best without doubt.
Review 32:very good staff. very willing to give directions, lend me a charger for my phone and was very hospitable. fantastic view from my room. I could not stop taking photos. I love the toiletries as well.
Review 33:Noise on Friday and Saturday nights from a nearby pub but fortunately did stop about midnight.
Review 34:Very good central position.excellent food and service .lovely room with fantastic view of the harbour.
Review 35:Impersonal dining staff. Pretentious, ungenerous food. Large wedding parties catered for well but solo traveller easily ignored. Hot stuffy room with no air con and loud noise from terrace diners all day.
Review 36:Kind, attentive reception staff; attractive view.
Review 37:Dinner in the restaurant was good, but VERY expensive, and although I booked a table for 7 pm, they seemed surprised that I actually wanted to sit down and order my dinner then!
Review 38:Friendly staff. Location is reasonable for St. Peter Port, since for any hotel there, you are going to have to climb a steep hill or steps or both.
Review 39:Breakfast service was haphazard - took an hour one day to complete. Poor management to blame as performance improved dramatically when there was someone capable in charge. Most watery milk I've ever been served - strange for Guernsey! Dinner menu fixed on monthly basis which suggests lack of imagination/poor ingredient buying.
Review 40:Comfortable spacious room but not quite up to 4* standard I think. Would have had great view if it wasn't for architectural monstrosity between hotel and quay. Pleasant helpful staff.
Review 41:Although this part of the hotel has been recently built, the room had nofridge (less important for us) and no safe deposit box (incredible in2015!). Leaving valuables in the safe at the reception is not veryuseful. The hotel lies a little bit out of the centre at the end of asteep road. It is a serious climb several times a day.
Review 42:Magnificent room (deluxe), magnificent view over the harbour, veryfriendly staff. Very quiet.
Review 43:On arrival, by taxi, was a bit disappointed as the hotel from the back appears small - rather like a B & B. However as soon as we were inside we realised that this first impression was unfortunate as the hotel is on different levels on the side of the cliff.
Review 44:We had a lovely room overlooking the harbour and pretty garden, with a large, well equipped balcony. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would have like to have stayed longer, but if we were visiting Guernsey again would certainly stay there.
Review 45:Great sea view, lovely spacious room, friendly & helpful staff, great breakfast. A little on the expensive side but then you get what you pay for.
Review 46:Evening meal , Main Course.Potatoes and chips overcooked and dry.The Lamb was not good either . Looked and tasted like it had just been reheated. . The Gravy did not have a good lamb flavour either. My starter and desert were both satisfactory.
Review 47:It's really difficult to find by car, and there are no signs where it is. It took us 30 minutes of driving round the lanes, and some footwork, to find it! You have to drive down two narrow lanes, which you would otherwise, ignore to get to the hotel. Some signs would make life soooo much easier.
Review 48:Fabulous room; we were upgraded to a suite, which was huge, had great views, and was very comfortable. Staff were really friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was excellent: properly served, not DIY!
Review 49:Very ordinary old fashioned room with cheap fittings (aluminium handles, bedside light etc) and tatty, chipped furniture (some given a quick coat of white paint). 60s style electric shower, no bathroom extraction, no Aircon.
Review 50:Surprisingly Good restaurant, top end of price range
Review 51:The 84 steps or steep walkway from the Town Centre to the Hotel (but we left much fitter!)
Review 52:The view, the quality of the room, the staff, the food, the attention to detail and the family atmosphere
Review 53:Room was a little cold
Review 54:Position with wonderful views and balcony was big enough to have a lounger although not used in February! Food was outstanding. breakfast prepared to order not buffet, coffee fresh. Staff friendly and helpful.
Review 55:Breakfast finishes a little earlier than one might expect(9.45 am), particularly on a Sunday.
Review 56:Once found (the route to it takes you down some improbably narrow alleyways) the hotel has beautiful views and lovely gardens and is a short walk from it into St Peter Port. The rooms are comfortable and we had beautiful views from the room. The restaurant also has spectacular views and has the reputation of being very good (we only ate breakfast, which was). The staff are friendly and it is a comfortable hotel in every way
Review 57:My boyfriend and I went for a romantic night away from home to celebrate our two year anniversary. They didn't know it wS our anniversary but they might as well have. We left feeling so relaxed and special
Review 58:The room was a little over priced and did not have a safe or fridge. For the price we would have expected both.
Review 59:Just had an overnight in Guernsey and hotel was welcoming and bed comfortable. We had a meal in the restaurant which was beautifully cooked and delicious. Wonderful views of the harbour and just a short walk from the town.
Review 60:I hardly slept a wink because of the huge din from a pub/bar nearby. This was a shame, not your fault, but made the night pretty miserable.
Review 61:the hotel and views
Review 62:The hotel is quite difficult to find and the approach road is very very narrow. I was surprised that there were no seats in the attractive garden as it would have been a pleasant place to sit as an alternative to the terrace.
Review 63:The hotel is quite small but has all the comfort and service that is needed. We had a room in the new wing with a balcony. It was spacious and comfortable with a good bathroom. The restaurant is very good. We ate there 2 nights out of 3 as it saved the walk down into town and back up the steps. Lovely situation high above the town but still just a short walk to the centre. Nice terrace with view out to the harbour.
Review 64:We love the view from the hotel over the marina and harbour with Herm and Sark beyond. Watching the changing weather and light is fascinating. It is an easy though steep walk from La Fregate into St Peter Port. Breakfasts are excellent with lots of choice. We enjoyed dinner in the restaurant with local friends.
Review 65:We chose La Fregate because of its two AA rosettes for meals. We ate in the restaurant on our first night and were disappointed with some of the food - my starter was overcooked. The service was also only average. Our wine bottle was placed in an ice bucket 20 feet from our table, and we had to ask for our glasses to be topped up. Staff were efficient but not very friendly. On the following morning my breakfast of bacon and scrambled eggs was very poor, with the egg very dry and burnt in places, and the bacon over crisp. We ate elsewhere on our second evening.
Review 66:Lovely room, excellent facilities, with great views. We stayed two nights.
Review 67:One way system getting to hotel by car! Very limited choice on menu for vegetarians
Review 68:Nice large ensuite room with great views only five minute walk to shops and restaurants.
Review 69:Got a sandwich in bar area, and they charged £9.95. each! Also when I left they charged me £420 and not £200, as agreed. When I phoned them later, they said sorry and will try to send me credit, but to chase if it doesn't arrive. I shouldn't need to chase them when they have taken my money! There are so many better restaurants and hotels in Guernsey, try them.
Review 70:Shower leaked spraying water over floor and towels when in use, was reported but still wasn't fixed when we checked out. Bar service was slow as staff were busy with restaurant. While view from room was generally good it was not as good as it could have been - we were on the lowest floor and the view was somewhat obscured an office building. This lower floor also has balcony running the full length of the building so privacy was a concern.
Review 71:Good location close to harbour and restaurants etc. Waiter-served breakfast - full English was huge and the scrambled egg on smoked salmon was incredible. Good view from large window towards the sea. Nice bar terrace with great views. Very good wifi. Memory foam matress.
Review 72:The steep walk down through the garden that didn't have a handrail. Room 107 lacked a safe deposit box. There was no air conditioning which meant we had to leave the windows open at night. So it was noisy - early deliveries to the front of the hotel and lots of noise from the guests below on the sunterrace and main road traffic at the back.
Review 73:We liked the sitting room area and that the whole room was spacious. We loved the view from our room, the dining area and the sun terrace. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The proximity to the town centre despite the steep hill and steps. The food was excellent as was the service.
Review 74:Quite hard to find by car. there may have been directions on web but I didn't see them.
Review 75:Views over the town and nay were exceptional. Food was great
Review 76:Stayed for the weekend, fantastic location only a stride from the shops, restaurants and harbor. The room was excellent, large and nicely furnished, balcony with super views of the harbor. Great breakfast with good range of choices. Would definitely stay here again.
Review 77:I greatly appreciated the friendly and helpful staff; the delicious food; the outstanding views from dining room and bedroom; and the comfortable bed. Strongly recommended.
Review 78:Did not sleep because of nose from the pub and cars all night I was so sorry about this as your hotel was great the food could not be better Pam Goodsell Norfolk
Review 79:All of your hotel your beds were great food fab staff could not have been kinder
Review 80:Could do with restaurant being updated, bit old fashioned and dated now but every thing else was faultless.
Review 81:Food great Views excellent Staff friendly and efficient We will stay again time and time as this is a great hotel.
Review 82:Access to hotel from town needs good legs but taxis OK if needed. Noise from Swan Pub on the road below bad on 2 nights, but we had the windows wide open
Review 83:Food, room, staff, almost everything, location
Review 84:Additional beds for my children (age 9 & 12) were campbeds and were TERRIBLE! Probably OK for very small kids, but awful for age 9+
Review 85:Staff friendliness & helpfulness was exceptional (we felt like the hotel's only guests!) Room style and cleanliness Breakfast - with fantastic view!
Review 86:Our suite had the most magnificent view of St Peter Port harbour and all its comings & goings and the other islands. I would have loved to move in & never left!!
Review 87:Nothing. The only minor drawback were the stairs to the restaurant. My husband could struggle with them.
Review 88:Everything! The room, the food, the ambience, the location, the views. It was amazing.
Review 89:Steep steps down to road could get quite slippery ( not for the less fit)
Review 90:Great views overlooking St Peter Port. Lovely well furnished rooms. Very good service ( breakfast and dinner)
Review 91:Difficult to find by car, not helped by roadworks and diversions beyond the hotel's control.
Review 92:Outstanding cuisine served by intelligent and efficient staff. Closeness to and accessibility of the town centre. Cleanliness and decor - and outstanding sea views from rooms and dining-room.
Review 93:Sleep was interrupted every night by noise from the street/town in the early hours, mostly youngsters who had over-indulged. If only there were air-conditioning, we could have closed the windows and shut out the noise.
Review 94:Generally good quality throughout The views are lovely Handy for the Town The terrace Breakfast
Review 95:The noise from the swan pub opposite at night time. It's steep to get to but it didn't bother me
Review 96:Lovely hotel, clean & bright, lovely staff. Fantastic location for St Peter Port activities. Excellent breakfast.
Review 97:The curtains are basically cut off roller blinds that slide to close. You have to open the window for frsh air, the plastic stips at the bottom clack together all the time which is annoying in the night.
Review 98:Comfortable beds, well appointed modern room, good bathrooom with rain shower, nightly turndown service with fresh towels. Reception staff very efficient and helpful.
Review 99:Nothing not to like
Review 100:Wonderful view from the dining room of the harbour, food was wonderful and staff could not have been more helpful. We all had a perfect stay!!!
Review 101:I don' think I disliked anything about this hotel and would love to return.
Review 102:Myself and my family stayed here for four nights. My two boys had a lovely double room and myself and my husband had a beautiful room with four poster bed and a balcony overlooking the harbour. The staff were very curteous and professional in every way. The hotel was clean, quiet with a freshly cooked breakfast every morning to order. Unfortunately we did not have enough days to eat in the restaurant in the evening.
Review 103:Nothing
Review 104:Room was fabulous - great view & tastefully decorated View from room & restaurant Breakfasts Helpful & polite staff - including at late night arrival when we had to book in a day early after being taken to A&E in Guernsey & not able to get back to Herm late that night
Review 105:No air conditioning in our room (had to request a fan). Difficult access for larger cars.
Review 106:Beautiful views of port, spacious suite, excellent restaurant and helpful, courteous staff.
Review 107:Pillows were lumpy, forgot to mention to staff til leaving, No air con so windows open and town noisy in the night
Review 108:Wifi good, staff efficient, view great
Review 109:I found the single room very hot and by opening the window I was overlooked from the bar terrace.
Review 110:Really liked the views from the hotel and the food was excellent.
Review 111:We stayed in a deluxe double room which was very spacious and had a lovy balcony with great sea views. It would have been quite expensive but as we booked last minute and got a discounted rate, it was very well priced. The room smelt a bit musty when we arrived but the staff were very great and offered us another room straight away. We didn't need it though because after the window had been opened a while, it was fresh and welcoming. The breakfast was well cooked and beautifully presented and the staff were incredibly attentive. All in all a great stay and we would definitely go back.
Review 112:The drizzly weather one day was disappointing - but even that wasn't really a negative as Reception staff lent me a large umbrella for the afternoon!
Review 113:I loved my well appointed single room with its immaculate bathroom and beautiful view of the harbour and castle. So often single rooms in hotels are small with a dismal outlook. Room service was very efficient and the food was excellent in every way. Definitely a hotel to return to!
Review 114:The noise from the cars on the road below (as well as general traffic there were idiots revving their engines and screeching down the road in the early hours). Noisy revellers & loud music coming from the Swan pub on the same road - on Fri and Sat nights this went on till after 2 in the morning.
Review 115:The staff - so helpful & friendly. The food - lovely menus and beautifully presented. The housekeeping - all room items were stocked up twice a day and the staff always asked if I had everything I needed. The room & ensuite - very comfy bed and powerful shower. The view - the harbour view was wonderful.
Review 116:Great room and cracking view over St. Peter port.
Review 117:Beautiful hotel with amazing views. Staff very welcoming and attentive.
Review 118:Very relaxing
Review 119:Easy acces, perfect location. Friendly staff. Room with harbour view!
Review 120:slightly tired bathroom
Review 121:Food quality
Review 122:Initially difficult to find hotel by car.
Review 123:Very relaxing stay... Superb restaurant.
Review 124:Views from our room. Room service was second to none.
Review 125:Excellent restaurant
Review 126:Very comfortable room with outstanding views and excellent decor.Warm welcome from staff.
Review 127:Beautiful place to stay
Review 128:actual location difficult to find, using guernsey mapping.
Review 129:overall experience was excellent.
Review 130:All of it
