Reviews for Manor Hotel
Review 1:Lovely stay very close to Exmouth centre and strolls along the sea front. Good views No frills but clean, welcoming and relaxing. The building itself is a little quirky but that's due to its age. Staff are all top notch.
Review 2:Last minute booking at a great price. Warm welcome on arrival and friendly and helpful staff. Nice clean room with excellent views. Good position for walking into town and along the seafront.
Review 3:A shelf in the bathroom would be nice. Single glazed main window, but we were given an extra heater, and we weren't cold.
Review 4:Super friendly staff. Amazing sea views from 2nd floor. Large room. Basic but modern fittings. Quiet.
Review 5:a number of different human hairs/dust in the bedding and pillows Very hot with no option to turn the heat down The lift did NOT look safe The odour as you walked in was of a musty conjealed fat nature
Review 6:Location was good and reception staff very nice Good parking Okay for one night but won't stay here again
Review 7:The lift might make you jump when it stops?
Review 8:The Hotel is situated a short walk to the centre of Exmouth, ideal for the numerous bars and restaurants. The train and bus station are also near, ideal for a shopping day out in Exeter. The hotel also has its own bar,and served a lovely cooked breakfast.
Review 9:Lift very small and jerky. Stairs down accessed by a door opening onto top step; difficult to find as next flight further along corridor. Floor sloping in room
Review 10:Good value for money
Review 11:the shower was cold, and the bathroom sink, only ran cold, but we had a nice hot bath in the morning.
Review 12:Nice room with sea view, comfy bed, staff were helpful
Review 13:Parking is limited, I had to park elsewhere on two of three days. Bathroom needs updating, shower fittings and screen need attention. TV is small but ok.
Review 14:Nice location with sea view, friendly welcome, free wi fi.
Review 15:WIFI on the 3rd floor was very poor. Suggest Wifi booster. A little facelift in the hotel would be a good idea. Rooms great, but the banister and fire doors are very shabby. Shame, it spoils the place.
Review 16:lovely atmosphere, good food in the restaurant and a very tasty breakfast. Very warm and friendly staff, who work hard to please guests. Lift available. Nice bar to relax in after a hard day travelling. very well situated, private parking round the back of hotel. Super view across the bay. Very clean room. Suggest instant hot chocolate in room too :-)
Review 17:Reception staff very helpful and obliging. Hotel is a short walk from both the town shops and the Esplanade. Our room on second floor had a lovely view over the local park and sea front (short walk away). It was quiet, clean and comfortable. Lovely wide bed with sensible duvet.
Review 18:At our age we would prefer a shower(not a shower over bath ) or wet-room.
Review 19:plenty of storage space in rooms. Very good breakfast and service. comfortable beds.
Review 20:Loved everything on my current stay. A warm welcome from the owner. Had a twin room on the 2nd floor overlooking the river Ex. Nice breakfast and would come back again.
Review 21:Beam across bed meaning that I had to bend right down to avoid it when getting in and out of bed. Not warned of this and felt it was dangerous especially if there was an elderly occupant.
Review 22:Excellent breakfast. Friendly staff.
Review 23:The atmosphere of The Manor is pleasingly old-fashioned; unfortunately, this entails undrinkable "instant" coffee being served at breakfast.
Review 24:The room was of generous proportions, with a gorgeous view.
Review 25:The staff were very friendly and helpful; I was most impressed with the size of the room, the view, value for money and the general standard of service. It is very handy for the railway station. I travel all over the country on business and stay at many hotels. This is one of the best. It's a pleasure to stay at a traditional hotel which values its guests and I couldn't recommend it highly enough.
Review 26:Hotel was quite old and when I made original booking breakfast showed as included in what I would say for this time of year was a high price but hotel wanted £7.50 extra
Review 27:I liked location not far from station and with a sea view
Review 28:The staircase to the fire doors on each landing dangerous, the bathroom towels to small , the good adequate the shaving plug didn't work the central light in our room didn't work
Review 29:The beds were clean ,the staff were great, the location very good especially our room with a sea view
Review 30:It would have been good to have had a small armchair In the room. Also there was no WiFi, or if present, not offered.
Review 31:Friendly, helpful staff, tasty breakfast, great views while in a central but quiet position.
Review 32:Could hear snoring form the next room but not the fault of the hotel!
Review 33:Great quirky hotel. Excellent in all respects. Loved room 102 - bright & airy with great view. Hotel very close to centre of Exmouth and the sea. Ideal for walks along the prom. Staff were all very approachable and helpful.
Review 34:Parking slight problem. Fire doors at top of stairs tricky. Lift very small & creaky. Very large impersonal dining room. People smoking right outside front entrance blocking it
Review 35:Pleasant room breakfast good
Review 36:The staff are excellent particularly Ali who is the most hands on manager that I have ever met. The rooms are clean and we found the bed comfortable. The view from our room was amazing.
Review 37:thin walls / noisy neighbour. had to bang on door to get them to turn TV down as reverberating through the corridor (we couldnt hear our TV in our room), They then proceeded to snore loudly all night - we thought we had somebody else in our room !
Review 38:friendly staff, clean room, good English breakfast, right proportions, not greasy and cooked well. lovely cuppa tea :-), but partner said coffee was weak
Review 39:As a disabled person more thought could be given as problems getting in and out of shower as no grab rails.bed not comfortable at all
Review 40:Staff were very friendly and helpful.food great.
Review 41:Bar closed early (before 11pm) and was more geared to group travellers. Not enough bar space for independent travellers. Bed not very comfortable - very hard compared to Travelodge or Premier Inn hotels.
Review 42:Location and size of room with a view (partial sea view) and cleanliness of facilities. The availability of a restaurant, but also the plentiful choice of cafes, bars and restaurants in the close area and in the town itself. Near to all amenities.
Review 43:The breakfast was lovely and the location excellent. Staff we dealt with were polite, informative and attentive. Exmouth is a lovely seaside town to visit.
Review 44:The bedroom was very comfortable but not being able to open the window to let some fresh air in was not good. However, breakfast the next morning was very good and the staff very helpful.
Review 45:This is a great central hotel easy walking distance into town we have stayed here a few times and the staff are always very friendly and helpful and the hotel is always kept very clean.
Review 46:Slipping in the very slippery bath whilst having a shower. The stairs being very dangerous from going through the door at the top of the stairs to get to the first floor bedrooms. Very awkward opening the door in order to descend as it was hard not to fall & opening the door to access the bedrooms- the door opening out on to the stairs causing guests to be extra careful. The lift was difficult.
Review 47:The location near the beach and town
Review 48:Didn't realise twin bedroom was family room, could have shared. Didn't realise when I booked, breakfast was not included in price. Difficult going through lots of doors on stairs with cases
Review 49:Rooms very well organised. Staff very friendly.
Review 50:The whole place needs a really good makeover. The bathroom was tiny , the noise from extractor fans from neighbouring rooms were very noisy and kept us awake half the night. Floorboards creaked and doors banged.Having stayed in a 4 star very recently with much higher standards and for less money , I thought it was somewhat overpriced.
Review 51:The location was good
Review 52:Advert is misleading concerning parking. There is a tiny hotel car park for about 4 cars, apart from that it's up to the guest to find somewhere - nothing is guaranteed. It was the first hotel we've ever stayed in where your breakfast table had your name printed on a large piece of paper - hope no-one wanted anonymity ! Made us feel we were in primary school.
Review 53:Location was good, staff friendly, excellent views from bedroom
Review 54:Window didn't open and it was a really hot day, bath shower screen didn't open outwards so had to get into bath to turn taps on, etc. Lack of proper shampoo etc.
Review 55:Staff really friendly at breakfast, bed comfortable.
Review 56:I found the single bed small and uncomfortable, waking each morning with back and hip ache. Would have preferred duvet on bed rather than sheet and blanket. The lift was an experience!
Review 57:Staff member on reception very welcoming and helpful in sorting out car parking space. Very good location only a few minutes walk from the beach and the town. Bathroom spotless.
Review 58:Few staff who were consequently overstretched and inefficient. Whole place rather 'tired' and tatty. Offered parking space but had to park on street - lucky to find space up the road after being advised it was OK to park on double yellows as traffic wardens had gone home!
Review 59:Fairly inexpensive bed for the night. Central location.
Review 60:Good location with view
Review 61:I find it difficult when a place is so tired that they charge boutique prices. Perhaps all hotels in Exmouth are overpriced but this one is.
Review 62:The ensuite bathroom was very small, and the main light extremely dim. The extractor fan didn't work, which mean that the steam from the shower remained trapped. Also, the power shower boost wasn't working, which meant that the shower was very weak and ineffective.
Review 63:The staff were absolutely incredible. Not only friendly, but incredibly helpful. After I had waited for 15 minutes without being asked for my breakfast order, I went up and requested some attention. From that moment on I was treated royally.
Review 64:Place needs a little update as it is a bit tired.
Review 65:Location is excellent with wonderful sea views. Staff are very friendly and helpful with nothing too much trouble.
Review 66:Hotel feels a little tired and old fashioned.
Review 67:Friendly staff and good location and view. Despite the presence of a large coach party were dealt with and served promptly.
Review 68:Too hot could have done with a fan. The next door room kept up awake most of the night with their loud bedroom antics
Review 69:Location was good for us, but the room was very hot even with the window wode open.
Review 70:Comfortable, friendly and relaxing atmosphere. Accommodation a favourite with more mature clients and the hotel staff were extremely proficient in accommodating everyone.
Review 71:The creaking sloping floors - although they do add character!
Review 72:Very friendly, helpful staff - especially Amy. The whole hotel was spotlessly clean - very impressive as it was fully booked. It's in a great location - near to the gardens, beach and shopping area.
Review 73:Shower took 15 minutes to get up to temperature and because of the style of the screen the bathroom got flooded
Review 74:Cleanliness of room friendliness of staff and a decent cooked breakfast or alternative of poached fish.
Review 75:Uncomfy bed, no duvet (sheet and blanket) and it was cold, needs some serious updating and our shower was freezing cold. £85 was a lot to spend for a rubbish, cold nights sleep.
Review 76:The food, location, view and staff.
Review 77:We booked for 4 nights but left after 3 as the guests in the next room were partying till the early hours of the morning. Not only in the room but in the corridor. The night manager slept in the far side of the hotel so didn't hear the noise.
Review 78:Great location. Very friendly & helpful staff. Sea view. Hotel a little tired but spotlessly clean. Great value for money. Well presented & tasty breakfast. This was our second stay at this hotel.
Review 79:One evening without hot water because boiler broke down. However, it was a Bank Holiday so staff couldn't get engineers out. Some parts of hotel could use a facelift.
Review 80:Excellent staff, friendly and helpful. Location very good, close to town and seafront. Would definitely stay again.
Review 81:Didn't have breakfast included in the price but turned out to be just as well as hotel is used for large groups on bus tours who all breakfast together. Found plenty of options available for breakfast a short stroll away.
Review 82:The staff were very helpful and the location of the hotel is excellent for both the seafront and town centre.
Review 83:Room (no 22) small but adequate. Need to be over 6ft tall to see out of the window ! (which is overlooking the back road). No lock on bathroom door and toilet flush was faulty. Small TV. Lift quite dated and shudders and jolts ! All in all I would say the room was a bit over-priced at £84.95 B&B
Review 84:Great location being 5mins walk from town centre and beach. Room clean. Staff helpful and friendly. Breakfast ok, but everything is served to the table so you can't help yourself to cereals/juice etc, you have to request this.
Review 85:Had clean, comfortable double 3rd floor room (there's a lift) as single occupant, no single room supplement. Amazing view, overlooking coastline as far as Torbay. Friendly, helpful staff, recommend this hotel.
Review 86:Was a smell of fish in reception and stairway but not in the rooms . reception area could do with a upgrade not a good impression when you arrive but staff on reception very good
Review 87:In good position and has a small car park which we were lucky to get a space in
Review 88:If I am being picky, I would say that the place could do with a bit of a face-lift and a lick of paint. The bar needs modernizing - it looks a bit like a Gentlemen's Club with too much dark furniture and high tables. But these are only minor things and wouldn't put me off going back there.
Review 89:Staff all lovely. Excellent breakfast. A very smoothly-run hotel. I always came out of the hotel lift with a smile on my face having thoroughly enjoyed the bumpy ride!
Review 90:• Very thin wall between us and next door's shower room with its VERY LOUD exractor fan system. Solution: change the fans - you can get replacements for less than 20 quid these days. • Hotel Image: exterior paintwork and on several doors badly needs attention - a problem I noticed with some hotels nearby. Is this an out of season thing maybe? certainly spoils the all important 1st impression.
Review 91:good room space and excellent window views across the estuary - staff helpful
Review 92:Staff were again great .. Had a little sunstroke and they went above and beyond to help excellent evening food delivered to room at no extra cost .... Fab .... Breakfast not as good as last time ..but as left early staff prepared packed lunch which was excellent will definitely be back
Review 93:Room was way too hot, heating in Max so turned it off but still too hot and windows jammed shut so couldn't get any of that fresh sea air. Room was on a slant so had to sleep on opposite side of bed to avoid sleeping at an angle!
Review 94:Manager was helpful and made sure we got a good price. He seemed to be the only person so overworked. It was very good value and a good view of the sea in room
Review 95:No complaints.
Review 96:Very cheerful & helpful staff. Fair price. Comfortable & clean room with sea view. Close to all amenities. We will definitely be back.
Review 97:Wasn't given a wifi code or told about the wifi, but really I should of asked so not the hotels fault but the room info book could do with updating.
Review 98:Very helpful staff, good overall stay
Review 99:The lift! I was on the third floor so had to use the lift - it banged and jumped when setting off and stopping - definitely scarey!
Review 100:Pleasant staff, good position. Nice place
Review 101:No complaints Only one request and that would be for a shelf above the bathroom sink to put your toiletries.
Review 102:We found the hotel position very convenient and close to all places of interest. The staff were both friendly and courteous, special mention for Amy on reception who handled our requirements by email and when we arrived superbly. Our breakfast excellent, the menue was varied and served by cheerful, friendly staff We had two great nights sleep and the view over the estuary was fantastic
Review 103:Parking was sadly very disappointing, and the hotel was a bit dated.
Review 104:The helpfulness of front desk staff, just wonderful. It was a cosy hotel, in a great location.
Review 105:Was not aware there was scaffolding covering front of building when booked. Had a fantastic sea view which was spoilt by roofers climbing up and down all day being able to see into room, not good when emerging from bathroom in just a towel! Waste tunnel right outside our room which knocked against scaffolding all night in the wind.
Review 106:Very close to town centre and esplanade. Friendly helpful staff, nothing too much trouble. Excellent cooked breakfast to order.
Review 107:We arrived at the reception and were rudely ignored by a man sitting behind the desk who waited for a member of staff to finish speaking to someone on the phone to serve us. The hotel is having work done so the builders were working, it would have been nice to have been told prior to booking.
Review 108:Ideal location, clean room but tired.
Review 109:Everything was generally OK. Would have preferred a slightly later check-out time (10am was the stated time), but this wasn't really a problem.
Review 110:Traditional hotel in a nice area of the town. Now slightly in need of an update, but we had a very large room overlooking the seafront. Good breakfast.
Review 111:The young girl on breakfast service (Sun 8th Feb) was a little 'sullen' and could have been a little more helpful, as ALL the other staff were :-)
Review 112:Not being able to help ourselves to juice and cereal for breakfast, most other hotels have this as a buffet option.
Review 113:The room we were eventually given by the really helpful receptionist was lovely, the hotel has been refurbished so the original room allocated to us unfortunately smelt of paint. My thanks to the young lady who was in charge on the 31st Jan, she couldn't do enough to help.
Review 114:The beds were hard and the room was quite dated but was value for the money spent. The window wouldn't open which would not be good in summer. Limited hotel parking spaces but plenty of parking on the road.
Review 115:Location and views were excellent and the staff were very friendly. The breakfast was nice.
Review 116:Cooked breakfast quantity was quite paltry and left me having to fill up on toast.
Review 117:They had Doombar on tap in the bar when I was there. That was good. Comfy bed. Cronky lift provided amusement for my 3 year old daughter.
Review 118:Lift was a bit dated but glad it had one
Review 119:The room was a great size plenty of space for clothes etc. Bathroom was also a good size. What staff we did see were happy and polite. If we do go again hope to get the same room. We also enjoyed the breakfast
Review 120:The man next door snoring! The tv and internet were both intermittent
Review 121:Central position to town and seafront and pavilion. Value for money clean hotel, with very friendly helpful staff
Review 122:Breakfast, apart from muesli, was very ordinary. I only chose sausage and poached egg for my main course, both of which were lukewarm, the sausage was overdone had obviously been standing for some time. Most of the toast was burnt.
Review 123:Location
Review 124:The main thing, apart from the lights all failing as we returned at 1 AM, was that the walls appeared to be very thin but certainly had little in the way of sound insulation. I appreciate it is a Georgian building but clearly rooms have been subdivided to give more, smaller but still sensibly sized rooms. Insulation could have been added. People in the neighbouring room could be heard VERY clearly with words and sentences apparent and clear. They were not speaking loudly indeed it sounded as though they were trying to keep their voices down but only a whisper would not have been heard through those walls. It was as if there was no wall there at all.
Review 125:room had a lovely view which surprised me since I thought , being a late booking, we would not have a view. It was lovely looking across the estuary with a superb sunset to boot. At night the coloured lights alongside the beach were charming.
Review 126:No faults.
Review 127:I went to Exmouth last weekend to see a concert, and stayed at The Manor Hotel. Very close to the town, train station, and the esplanade. Lovely comfortable feel to the hotel. Very welcome reception. The lady told me the best way down to the Pavilion and told me about the boat trip on the river Exe the next day. The room was fab and the breakfast was DELICIOUS! All the staff were friendly and attentive. I will certainly look forward to going back again. They also had a piano which I played- oh yes!! Thank you all.
Review 128:Some radiators on making it too hot in unseasonably good October weather. Single room lacked the appeal of the double room. (Clearly a large room divided into a double and single room).
Review 129:Great staff Lovely large double room with huge window overlooking Exmouth sea front Tasty breakfasts Great value Very close to Sea front, restaurants, pubs, gardens and town centre.
Review 130:Nothing a bit hilly but hey you cant have everything ,and it is a hilly place.
Review 131:We booked the hotel as we had travelled from Wales , the location couldn't have been closer to the venue. We had a fantastic view from our room , the room was lovely the breakfast was wonderfull and the staff were very helpful. Only sorry we couldn't book another night as the hotel was fully booked.
Review 132:Some things in need of a bit of work doing to them. Would have liked bit more food at breakfast.
Review 133:We were treated really well from the time we arrived to the time we left. All the staff were great and it is a very good and comfortable hotel.
Review 134:Hotel was a bit shabby and old fashioned, needed a good facelift. The information in the room said that dinner was available from 7 but when I asked to book a table, staff seemed reluctant because they had a party of whist players in the hotel and they recommended that I go elsewhere. I managed to have a bar meal but felt uncomfortable.
Review 135:Room was comfortable with good sea views. Enjoyed a pleasant evening meal and lovely cooked breakfast.
Review 136:The staff were very helpful & friendly , very convenient location near to shops and sea front . Rooms were clean and comfortable. Very good breakfast . I would stay here again
