Reviews for Stanbrook Abbey
Review 1:Nothing!
Review 2:A fantastic venue! Beautiful surroundings. Comfortable, clean and very very different. Egyptian cotton bed linen. Excellent food in the restaurant. Wonderful and comfortable bar. Excellent, polite and attentive service from all staff. A wonderful stay. Could not fault in any way.
Review 3:Room was very hot on the night of my stay and I didn't seem to have the ability to turn the radiator down although I tried. It was a shame that the bar was not open and selling food as the option was a full 3 course meal. Which looked great but not what I was after that evening.
Review 4:Hotel is fantastic looking and well presented rooms are very very good, well finished and extremely comfortable.
Review 5:Paid £25 to upgrade to a room which was more spacious, but still turned out to have twin beds and just a disabled shower. Requested a different room and a refund.
Review 6:The hotel was amazing, set in a fantastic location, we booked a superior Suite which blew our minds we had our own living space and a huge bathroom. The whole experience was top class and we will definitely be returning.
Review 7:Only fault we found was the food in the restaurant which was sparse and not value for money, portions far too small and not enough to feed a mouse, breakfast was dried up, sausage seemed like it was prepared the night before, scrambled egg was powered egg, even though we was first up for breakfast it appeared dried up, so the rest of our stay we went to the local village bar for food.
Review 8:The hotel is homely and very welcoming, the staff are very friendly and helpful.
Review 9:The staff, the history and the willingness of the staff to tell us more about the history. No matter who we met on our own investigations they would tell us even more...so we stayed another day!
Review 10:The only real issue for us was the cleanliness of our room. There were HUGE cobwebs in most of the corners along with a clogged plughole which eventually caused us to flood the room below us and a visit from the manager at 11pm while we were in bed.
Review 11:Me and my partner loved hearing about the history of the Abbey from Gavin and most of the other staff were very polite and friendly. The building is beautiful!
Review 12:A pool area would make this hotel even more outstanding (it already is outstanding anyway!). Didnt like the tapestry, but that's just a little thing and probably more me being fussy. It does, however, display the hotels character.
Review 13:Amazing hotel and lovely grounds. Travel the UK often and have not come across many hotels that take me back like this one. Mainly due to the fact that you can walk around the abbey and plenty of things to do there. Was so impressed that me and my partner have decided it is the benchmark for potential wedding venue.
Review 14:By adding a pool and/or spa facilities would make this hotel one of the best and most unusual in the world. We were disappointed that the piano bar (with the enticing open fire) was closed on New Year's Day.
Review 15:The chance to explore an historic building with friendly and helpful staff always on hand. The New Year's party was very good value and the 'Around the World in 80 Days' theme was perfect to sample food from around the globe and meet more of the staff (dressed in fancy dress) with a warm spot by a roaring fire as icing on the cake.
Review 16:Nothing!!
Review 17:The ambience, the Abbey chapel and the super friendly staff. The full breakfast was excellent. The staff worked as a te am and the service was impeccable!!
Review 18:The only disappointment was the evening meal in the restaurant. Very little choice and tiny portions. No veg or potatoes, even to order as a side dish. Breakfast was much better.
Review 19:The place itself was absolutely amazing. We had access to all of the rooms ( except the boardroom where a meeting was taking place) and to wander through the abbey, the old library, the beautiful corridors etc was fantastic. Such atmosphere, spotlessly clean and exceptionally helpful staff.
Review 20:My husband was disappointed about the executive bedroom having no settee only dining chairs to sit on and your photo showed a four poster bed which we had a king sized normal style bed
Review 21:Friendly staff - The history of the hotel and being able to explore the rooms and tower we loved the decor and very well presented !
Review 22:Limited evening meal option eg would have preferred main course only option.
Review 23:Historical presence of the building. Mix of old and new décor. Fantastic approach to the hotel, especially when lit up!
Review 24:On checking out was charged for meal we hadn't had together with an extra service charge!
Review 25:Combination of old and new building. Comfortable room and impressive bar area. Excellent quality breakfast.
Review 26:Great place, not too far from the M5 if you need an overnight stop. Beautifully renovated, comfortable, pleasant helpful staff. Would, certainly, use again.
Review 27:The room was really hot
Review 28:The facilities and the fact that the building has so much history, you're allowed to explore the building which was very interesting
Review 29:The rich colours, furnishings & quotes from The Eagles song 'Hotel California' & the Abbey and seeing the beautiful Christmas Tree, completely fell in love with this hotel ! We will definitely be back xx
Review 30:The newly constructed main bar was cold and needs heating!! Watch the cost of bottled water!!
Review 31:Very sympathetic conversion of an abbey to a comfortable hotel. Great staff with a generously sized room with large en suite with excellent shower.
Review 32:Limited food option for dinner and quite expensive.
Review 33:The room was fantastic and the long corridors were fun to explore. Breakfast was very good lots of options
Review 34:very small grumble, lack of choice of vegetarian options on menus.
Review 35:Superb hotel, stunning building, great staff, nice amenities and very comfortable and quirky rooms, what's not to like.......
Review 36:personnel not well trained, bar is horribly furnished and comfy as an airport terminal, rooms not heated (!) until 18:00, no checkout at 06:00 in the morning
Review 37:beautiful setting
Review 38:Excellent hotel, spotlessly clean throughout, friendly, attentive staff and the rooms (and the abbey itself) were beautiful and very relaxing. Stayed for my husband's birthday weekend and gave us easy access to the Worcester Victorian Christmas Fayre and surrounding area - would definitely come again for a special occasion.
Review 39:bedroom doors slamming all morning from people leaving their room and the fierce door closer slamming the door
Review 40:beautiful hotel, beautiful grounds, great bar, lovely bedroom and bathroom
Review 41:Loose tap that twisted around. This left it difficult to turn off, spraying hot water everywhere. Room 124. Fatty bacon, asked for 2 poached eggs but only given one. Other customers experienced the same. Poor view from room.
Review 42:Loved the position, the luxury, the homage to the Eagles. Excellent service in some areas.
Review 43:I thought this hotel was absolutely stunning. Great location beautiful surroundings, was worried it would be to upper class but made to feel so welcome. Staff amazing friendly and genuine. Can't wait to go back.
Review 44:Breakfast room was not well planned - crowded, and the waiters had to bring food and drinks down the same stairs as guests. One of the couples in our group had a small windowless room, although paying the same price. None of the four couples would pay the full price. The taxi ordered by the hotel did not arrive!!
Review 45:Lovely buildings and surroundings! There was a serenity in the hotel, reflecting the original use.
Review 46:Staff weren't that knowledgeable about places to go walking nearby. But that was ok.
Review 47:Awesome, quirky place to spend time. We had fun in the snooker room and games room; had delicious anniversary dinner. Lovely breakfast and all in, incredible value for money.
Review 48:Nothing I didnt like
Review 49:The room was spotless, comfortable and had some lovely touches such bottled water and some personal toiletries. The food was plentiful and of good quality.
Review 50:Thought the reception staff could have been a bit more customer friendly. When settling the bill never thought to ask if we had enjoyed our stay.
Review 51:The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful.A special mention to all the restaurant staff who were brilliant.
Review 52:Beautiful hotel, and very unique. The staff are amazing, they are proper hotel staff, i.e they know what the customer needs before you do, you usually don't get that except in the premium hotels of London. Would recommend to anyone.
Review 53:Our bathroom in room 307 was smelly. It smelled of drains. The heating did not come on until 7pm
Review 54:Excellent value for money. Attentive and caring staff. Peaceful atmosphere. Fascinating history to the building
Review 55:Poor service from the moment we arrived. We stood for 10 minutes at reception before we were acknowledged and able to book-in. A loose washbasin hot tap in the bathroom nearly resulted in getting scalded. Followed by the tap in the shower falling off. Dining room service was very slow especially considering how restricted the menu was, over an hour to receive our main course. Breakfast, I felt that this was done as a cost saving exercise. The high-end concept was not delivered on the day
Review 56:The location, setting and buildings were outstanding. Truly an AmazingVenue.
Review 57:The fact that we couldnt have spent more time there.
Review 58:The fact that all the rooms, piano, library, tower, abbey etc are all open for you to wander and adore. All staff pleasant witout being over the top.
Review 59:Bar man struggled with the till. One bottle of wine was ordered at the bar and signed for. Upon check out there were two bottles upon the bill. Minor error but, I stay in hotels a lot, this is a common trend, starting to get a little bored of this common thread in hotels.
Review 60:Great location. Comfy rooms. I could hear people in other rooms snoring from my bed. It did not put me off but it took me a while to fall asleep.
Review 61:The staff couldn't have been more helpful. The room was quirky and comfortable, the bathroom was amazing and I loved the original features of the Abbey.
Review 62:Too hot in the bedroom, fan did not work and only one of the two sash windows could be opened. No member of staff available to assist me.
Review 63:Location. Good value for money. Quiet and a lovely country feel.
Review 64:To put a 3/4 size bed in a single room and call it a double room is not really very good!! Admittedly the price was really good, but the room itself was terribly small... smaller than the smallest single room I have seen. Would not recommend the hotel because of this and would not revisit. Only 1 person on front desk, meant a long wait, as people in front were asking many questions regarding local area. Not impressed.
Review 65:the location is lovely.
Review 66:Amazingly wonderful hotel in lovely surroundings. We had a truly serene weekend break. Staff were cheerful, polite and helpful. Food delicious! Guests are free to explore the Abbey at leisure . This was our second visit and we will return.
Review 67:Corridors and stairwells carried the noise at night. Service in the restaurant very slow and disorganised. Food nice but inconsistent ( missing items). Items missing from table setting which had to be chased. Staff member not always in the restaurant. Communication from reception to restaurant of booking non existent so apparently no table ready for us.
Review 68:Beautiful venue. Full of character. Nice refurbishment.
Review 69:The staff were very rude to my fiancé almost embarrassing didn't offer U.S. drinks when we sat down for a meal told my fiancé to put his jacket under table ! The service was appalling
Review 70:Loved our room and the location and the hotel itself it is a very beautiful place and the food was spot on
Review 71:The room although very nice was rather small and the bed was also fairly small.
Review 72:Everything was relaxed and easy. All staff members were very good and professional. Beautiful surroundings . .
Review 73:Basic rooms well furnished and comfortable but cramped. Still v.good value for offer price paid.
Review 74:fantastic public areas and wonderful cloister corridors
Review 75:There was no spa mini bar or room service. with these facilities it could possibly be my new favourite hotel.
Review 76:I loved how qwerty it was it is very modern mixed with very old which I loved. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was amazing
Review 77:There needs to be more lights outside to light up the walk way from the car park to the abbey,if they were there they were not on and it's very dark
Review 78:Location and very clean
Review 79:The hotel is amazing, the staff (all of them) are extremely helpful and enthusiastic, they clearly love to work at Stanbrook :).. The grounds are b'ful. With the addition of a gym,/spa the hotel is complete
Review 80:it felt like a very sterile environment, almost as if it had lost its history being made too perfect, like it had lost some of its personality. Breakfast was ok but nothing special and too many waiters wanting to serve me
Review 81:I liked that it was steeped in history......although sad I didn't have time to view the bits that remained from its past life
Review 82:Breakfast appalling, staff clearly not trained and food (although quality ingredients) very slow to come out.
Review 83:Staff v friendly, venue unusual and stunning
Review 84:Nothing - everything was perfect
Review 85:Comfortable room with contemporary fixtures and fittings in a room which retains its original 1835 character. Friendly staff and a beautiful, relaxing setting. We enjoyed exploring the abbey and seeing the fantastic interior.
Review 86:Pity about a bit of a confusion over dietry requirements at dinner, but all resolved sensibly.
Review 87:A unique, characterful hotel. Stunning bathroom and excellent bedroom - having a scroll-top bath in the bedroom as well as the fabulous en suite was just lovely.
Review 88:This is a fantastic venue, with lovely efficient staff. The venue is great for exploring, and it was lovely to be able to wander everywhere with no restrictions. This is by far the best hotel we have stayed in, and a very reasonable cost also.
Review 89:The hotel could save a lot of money by turning down the heating! The evening meal was unfortunately for my wife, below average and priced far too highly for what was presented. Some of the modern fittings in the hotel were not quite right in our opinion - possibly way too much purple! The bar staff were not very attentive or knowledgable.
Review 90:The style of the hotel was excellent with a mix of ancient and modern comforts. Mark in the restaurant was an excellent host, nothing was too much trouble. The Dame Suite was an outstanding room. The surroundings were beautiful and the building was immaculately kept. The opportunities for dining and holding an event here are endless, we particularly love the wine cellar and games room.
Review 91:The style of the hotel which still mixes the architecture of old & new. It was a really interesting historic site as well as a comfortable hotel. Love it and would go back.
Review 92:Appalling service - lots of staff hanging around but basically not interested in the customer. On top of which the lift to the third floor did not work.Get the service right & the hotel would be a real pleasure.
Review 93:Arriving you see this spectacular building in fine grounds -many features of the old Abbey are retained. Our room was extremely well furnished & the bathroom was spectacular . The hotel has the buildings & rooms to be a really fine hotel.
Review 94:We arrived after a long journey and needed a rest. The accommodation was excellent, breakfast was first class with plenty of choice. Staff were friendly and attentive. We will return again and recommend this hotel.
Review 95:No negatives at all
Review 96:everything was perfect, especially the staff. The best hotel/venue I've experienced. Don't think about it, book it, you won't be disappointed.
Review 97:room was small...no where to hang clothes if stopping more than 1 night dirty under the bed...had to retrieve something we dropped
Review 98:loved the free roaming of the abbey, hidden areas we found all around to explore, great time spent around the fire in courtyard...unique and quirky
Review 99:The cost of the drinks in George's bar. £14.70 for a wine and a beer, oh and don't forget the complimentary nuts, was steep!
Review 100:Loved the history of the place, loved the way it had been restored
Review 101:Fluffy bathrobes were not so soft & fluffy. More fruit for breakfast as a healthy option.
Review 102:Complimentary water by the bed with glasses. The Abbey was stunning & decorated to an amazing high standard. Extremely impressive.
Review 103:All the exterior LED lighting is a bit over the top and slightly naff
Review 104:Spotlessly clean Wonderful efficient and friendly staff Amazing breakfast Very interesting property
Review 105:we had 3 rooms and 1 was significantly smaller than the other 2 which was not ideal. Group bookings particularly families should have rooms of similar standard. to be fair we didnt complain at the time and all rooms were ok. on arrival we tired to get some tea and coffees but it seemed the only option was a full cream tea. These are minor niggles and on the whole the experience was good and the place was lovely
Review 106:The general ambiance, bar area and staff friendliness
Review 107:A slightly long wait for main course at evening meal. Do Not want my views &name put on the internet please.
Review 108:Character &history of building very friendly &obliging staff.Lovely setting &grounds peaceful.
Review 109:There is nothing not to love about Stanbrook Abbey.
Review 110:What a fantastic hotel! Wonderful, helpful, friendly, welcoming staff. Stunning room and a gorgeous setting, high quality facilities and excellent food. Comfortable bed and well appointed, well laid out bathroom. Breakfast was truly exceptional. Every detail of our stay was perfect. Excellent value. We can't wait to go back!
Review 111:none
Review 112:lovely architectural building and kept the history on going with tours around the site very good sweeping entrance shame the added modern entrance
Review 113:They didn't have a laundry service. Needed some laundering done but had to drive 10mins away to get it done. We booked for a queen room but turned up only to have a twin room only available. They did give us the option of moving into a queen the next day but we were there for 2 nights and we couldn't be bothered packing everything up and moving down the hall in the end.
Review 114:The experience of staying in an Abbey. The grounds were beautiful. Very luxuriously done up. Dining for Breakfast was great.
Review 115:Very quiet Thursday night so bar didn't have much atmosphere.
Review 116:Friendly happy staff. clean, tasteful rooms. Wonderful building and location. Breakfast is amazing. Love it and will be back
Review 117:We had a room next to a very noisy kitchen and were disturbed until late at night and very early in the morning. I wrote to the manager and did not even get the courtesy of a reply.
Review 118:A very impressive old Abbey, and being able to wander around it was great
Review 119:The restaurant needs to have a makeover to change the style and give it the wow factor the rest of the hotel has
Review 120:Everything, the facilities, room, public area's and location
Review 121:Charged for a bar drink I didn't have. Signature didn't match mine and at time I had not checked in: person cannot have shown room card. Charge removed once I had spotted it, but it should never have reached my account.
Review 122:Access, parking, wifi, breakfast
Review 123:As we were driving from Scotland down to Exeter we decided we should look for a place to stay as it was getting late. We searched booking.com for accommodation and found Stanbrook Abbey so booked a double room on line. When we arrived at the abbey we were initially told there were no rooms available and that booking on line was no guarantee of a room. We were then told they had located a room with twin beds and then we were told that there were 3 rooms and that one of them may be a double bed. Once we had been booked into the double room the rest of the stay was amazing. While everything worked out it was very stressful to arrive at night to be told we did not have a room and I'm still not sure whether the Abbey takes online bookings?
Review 124:Amazing accommodation, beautiful architecture, luxurious bathroom, fabulous breakfast, friendly staff, we loved staying here!
Review 125:Stayed there to celebrate our 1st year anniversary. Had the best weekend especially when we got to dress up as a nun and monk. Would definitely stay there again. Very romantic and staff were very welcoming.
Review 126:Room 118. Didn't like that we couldn't look out. We expected to look out at the beautiful views. The room was horribly warm and we couldn't open a window to get fresh air.
Review 127:Beautiful location and the Abbey was absolutely stunning. Staff were very friendly and there was plenty of them.
Review 128:My only negatives from the weekend were the lighting in the bathroom could've been a little better as my husband found it quite difficult to shave and the buffet style breakfast was a little dissappointing as some of the food was a bit dry and the scrambled egg too runny for our liking. We understand that this is the easiest way when catering for large numbers and alternative egg options were available but there was a massive amount of food in the containers so maybe cook less but more often rather than in bulk and then the food may not dry out. This is a very personal and minor criticism and would not stop us returning to the abbey.
Review 129:The abbey is absolutely stunning from the minute you enter the driveway. The staff are excellent and nothing is a bother to them. Just wandering round the abbey looking in all the rooms is great and very relaxing. I would come back in a heartbeat. I booked the abbey as a little bit of luxury for a romantic weekend for my husbands birthday and it was more than I dreamed it could be. The pictures just don't do this stunning place any justice, it has to be seen to be believed. Thank you to all the staff especially Rhianna, she was amazing! xx
Review 130:the only gripe really was I wish the hotel did a b.b and evening meal rate or even a set menu because the prices were a little steep. food lovely though.
Review 131:The abbey was breath taking, staff attentive and friendly. We had an executive room which was spacious, well equipped, the bed was very cosy. The buffet breakfast was well cooked and plentiful all in all we would go back again.
Review 132:Terrible breakfast , spoke to both floor manager and restaurant manager to suggest several changes, very old and dated buffet breakfast cold soggy and unappealing !
Review 133:Venue was "amazing", couldn't fault the facilities of staff. Comfy bed , good wifi
Review 134:Didn't have a bad experience but would not enjoy room in summer heat, only one small window opened, electric fan not working, that can be fixed.
Review 135:Friendliness of staff, well presented public rooms. We're upgraded, would have appreciated arm chairs in room, requested this prior to stay, just helped ourselves to small armchair from public area.
