Reviews for The White Rock Hotel

Review 1:the only critism would be the room was on third floor and lots of stairs not good for older people abit like crystal maze.on a positive note they do have a small lift

Review 2:Hotel was lovely staff were amazing and very friendly and good location

Review 3:At the price we paid for the rooms, we would have expected breakfast to have been provided rather than as an additional expense. Also the terrific noise that emanated from the air vent in the bathroom woke us up. It needs attention. The lift is tiny to put it mildly and it is uncomfortable to fit in with hand luggage.

Review 4:Great aspect

Review 5:Bathroom was cold and we had trouble with the hot water... It ran out on the first day after a 10 minute shower. We were told to wait for it to warm up again but we were due at a wedding so didn't have time for this. Consequently my husband had to have a cold shower... In December!

Review 6:Friendly, helpful staff. Good breakfast, great location and a lovely sea view

Review 7:Floor was very squeaky. Also one night was very noisy with doors banging and some bad language in the middle of the night. To be fair, this only happened once.

Review 8:I was very impressed by the standard of cleanliness in this hotel and the welcoming I got from staff. I came for a poetry reading and wanted to stay near the action which dictated my choice but I am glad I chose this hotel. Food was excellent and super value for money.

Review 9:From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome. We were shown our room, which was had a sea view as requested. The hotel goes out of its way to give good service, even to the extent of recommending a takeaway and giving you plates and napkins! The coffee making tray was generous and replenished each day. Every member of staff was helpful and friendly. The bar was well stocked, prices were very reasonable too. Room service was available with no extra charge. A fabulous stay.

Review 10:Some of the paintwork etc,. in the rooms was looking tired and in need of decoration and there were water leak marks on the ceiling.

Review 11:The location was very good, and would be even better in the summer!

Review 12:We felt that the extra money for the sea view room was not justified as the window was set very high in the front wall and for a shortish person tip toes was required. We asked for an upgrade on arrival to get the "Juliet Balcony" room so had to pay another extra charge for a real sea view room.

Review 13:The restaurant served really good, in fact, excellent basic home cooked food, the staff really worked hard and were still very cheerful

Review 14:Allocated a room with a shower only....we have a toddler so joy appropriate Single glazed room at first very noisy outside Shower was odd seemed to need de scaling or new head...very hard to wash hair Phone was not working Moved room to a better one but shower still appalling Very creaky floors quirky but noisy

Review 15:Love the location Beds comfy Very clean

Review 16:Hotel needs a bit of refurbishment ( being done I gather). Booked a superior room - not sure we got that ! First floor rooms seemed to have better outlook , Juliet balconies etc to front.

Review 17:Friendly young staff , good breakfasts. Me and my 10 year old daughter had two nights at half term - very pleasant stay. Convenient location , great views of the Channel , beach and Pier.

Review 18:The floors in the passage-ways and rooms were very uneven which we found disconcerting.

Review 19:Bright, clean and friendly. The refreshments tray in the room was very well stocked and allowed for 2 cups of tea each. The biscuits were also a nice touch along with the bottled water.

Review 20:seemed short staff on the sunday waited 20 mins to have out order taken for breakfast we eventually left and went to a cafe

Review 21:location and outside area & our room with the french doors and friendly staff

Review 22:Nothing major. Suitable accommodation for a short stay.

Review 23:Well located, easy walk from the train station and on the beach front. Clean room that included good facilities. Helpful staff at reception.

Review 24:Thin corridors so was disturbed by noise of other guests in the night.

Review 25:Very friendly staff. Right on the beach. Nice cafe/bar. Hastings had a lot to do for children.

Review 26:Room was quite hot so had to leave window open and was quite noisy with traffic outside though we didn't really find this a problem and was actually quite nice to hear the sea at night!

Review 27:Good location and nice room overlooking sea. Room was a good size with roomy en suite bathroom and was very clean and comfortable. Lovely outside terrace overlooking the sea for coffee or drinks.

Review 28:The corridors were very dingy and the entrance from the car park was quite depressing. It felt like we were entering a very downmarket establishment.f

Review 29:The friendly staff and the cafe bar where we had a nice breakfast.

Review 30:As a solo female traveler I did not appreciate being asked for my room number in the dining room, only for it to be repeated out loud by the waiter in front of other guests.

Review 31:Absolutely nothing

Review 32:The hotel should make it clearer that they accept dogs. There were lots of large dogs, even in the dining room at breakfast, some not on leads, some sitting in furniture. No one seemed to be in overall charge. We had a fire alarm at 4am in the middle of the night - the staff member said 'it is usually a false alarm', so not an infrequent occurrence? No apology posted anywhere the following morning. Noisy fire door outside our room.

Review 33:Convenient location, good view over sea and pier, staff friendly, room good. Décor in public spaces tasteful. Not expensive for a hotel, with facilities.

Review 34:I think they should have a separate table-service area for food, particularly for the residents. If you go down for dinner, you might have to wait at a scum at the bar to order.

Review 35:It's been nicely done up and they strive for a good standard. Good to have a place like this in Hastings. It's good that their non-smoking policy applies also the the terrace outside: at too many places, non-smokers who want to enjoy fresh air are surrounded by smokers and their smoke, floating ash that stains clothes and dirty ashtrays.

Review 36:Only one thing , it was really hot outside this past weekend and it seemed to be a furnace at night trying to sleep in the room even with windows open that's the only fault. Everything else was brilliant

Review 37:Staff was lovely, receptionist took us to our room, and even called us once we went in the room and asked if we was happy :), can't remember the name of the lady she had red hair very small :) give her a bonus!

Review 38:~ For the price we paid, breakfast should have been included in the room rate but apparently none of the rooms come with that option. £8 each was a bit steep and the old town feed both of us for that. don't let this put you off though it's still a fantastic place to stay x ~

Review 39:~ Fantastic beach front location with comfortable rooms, staff were so friendly and helpful. couldn't have asked for a better hotel. ~

Review 40:The floorboards creek.

Review 41:The staff were very friendly, the breakfast (extra) excellent. Meals and beverages delivered to room at no extra charge. Parking free. We had a large twin-bed room facing the rear. Rooms made very quickly and effciently each morning. Hotel bar comfortable with nice view onto the sea. All in all an excellent and enjoyable 11 days.

Review 42:Very noisy traffic all night so if the weather is warm you have no choice but to hear it via the open window. It would really benefit guests to have a fan in the room during the summer months. Bathroom was very damp (damp smell throughout the room). Perhaps new ventelation fan needs to be fitted there.

Review 43:The staff were excellent and the room very comfortable.

Review 44:Love that we could sit outside and have breakfast on the terrace. friendly relaxed hotel staff, pet friendly is good, lots of tea, coffee, milk & water bottles supplies. Lovely bathroom products. nice modern rooms and bathrooms.

Review 45:Staff could do alittle more, sometimes felt they didn't listen or understand our simple requests I.e we wanted to eat outside on the balcony one night and had clearly told two waiters this and not one of them returned to ask us shat we would to order- so we went back inside and did this ourselves !

Review 46:Good location within walking distance of places etc

Review 47:Creaky floors.

Review 48:Its location, its opposite the sea and pier. Bus stop on the door step. Car park free of charge. Staff very helpful, and above all the bedrooms on suite are very clean, and plenty of hot water.

Review 49:Surprised breakfast not included. Bizarrely narrow corridors.

Review 50:Really good location on seafront. Newly refurbished tasteful rooms with nice toiletries and teas. Staff very helpful, bright spacious cafe/ restaurant.

Review 51:Could have done with more storage space in wardrobe. Sound carries from rooms above and movement in corridor. Stairways a little narrow for passing.

Review 52:The hotel was good and the staff friendly and helpful. Very clean throughout. Very good restaurant with good value. Terrace is great.

Review 53:Leaving!

Review 54:It was perfect from the moment we arrived to the second we had to leave.Loved everything, all the staff were pleasant, helpful and courteous. Wewill definitely be back.

Review 55:Scaffolding up in front of room as works to outside of building on one side being done. No mention of this when I rang to confirm booking but staff at reception compensated for this and did there best to help when we arrived.

Review 56:Great facilities comfy bed and very helpful friendly staff. Also great location

Review 57:Scaffolding outside our bedrooms. For the price I think breakfast should be included ( as most places in UK are)

Review 58:Weather was good! Little tired looking but rooms and bathrooms v nice and comfortable. Staff friendly and helpful.

Review 59:The metal bed squeaked badly, so Bedroom antics had to be kept to a minimum

Review 60:Lovely big shower cubicle, very good location, parking facilities, although limited, well equipped complimentary items, plus hairdryer, and juliette balcony.

Review 61:From the front the hotel looks really good. However from the back ( The first bit you see when you park your car in their car park) it looks run down and not a nice place to stay.

Review 62:The staff were friendly the room was clean and comfortable. Food was good and overall very good value for money. The sea view from the room was amazing too. And free car park at rear is also a bonus.

Review 63:No hot water in the shower on the first morning; the window blind kept falling down; paper thin bath towel on Day 1; all not fixed until I chased up; poor excuses from management for these faults; basic room, inflated price. Won't stay there again.

Review 64:Friendliness of staff, breakfast (although you had to pay extra), view from window, location.

Review 65:It is a shame that the breakfast was not included in the price. I would rather pay a bit extra and have it included.

Review 66:Very friendly, nice bar with good beers, convenient location. Great that breakfast goes on to 11am, makes for a relaxed start!

Review 67:NO HOT WATER IN THE MORNING ! Lift only just fits 2 people with minimal luggage. Loo seat broken (room 301). Very creaky floorboards.

Review 68:Had a car park but do get there early as there are very few spaces available.

Review 69:No hooks at all in the room so towels had to be draped over chairs, cupboards etc. Bed not so comfortable - dipped slightly in the middle so not good for my back!

Review 70:Great bar area and restaurant with good food. Nice to see pets in the hotel! Good location Friendly, helpful staff

Review 71:Broken toilet seat that didn't get fixed despite reporting it. Paid for premium sea view room, had scaffolding up directly outside the French doors - had no prewarning of this, greatly impaired view, no apology for it either.

Review 72:Welcoming our dog and there was no charge for him to stay. Very friendly helpful staff. Good pool room when no functions are going on.

Review 73:My only small gripe is that the shower is fixed to the wall so if you wished to just wash your hair you had to use the sink or have a full shower. We ate at the hotel on the first night and found the food disappointing so if you want to eat locally we found a fabulous little restaurant three minute walk away called Nazar a Turkish restaurant

Review 74:I stayed with a friend in a twin room at this hotel which was clean and quiet. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The room had a lovely bathroom and they provided toiletries which was a bonus also complimentary bottles of water were provided as well as tea and coffee facilities within the room. The hotel has a small car park which is free and if there are no spaces you can park in the underground car park opposite the hotel and the hotel will give you a token for this. The hotel bar and restaurant is busy on Theatre nights as the hotel is next door to the White Rock Theatre.

Review 75:We had a room facing the ocean, which was nice, but it's quite noisy from the traffic, which starts early in the morning (6:00 am).

Review 76:The location was right at the ocean and close to the train station and walking distance to the downtown shopping area and the old town. The hotel is older, but quite well maintained. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 77:It will be fairer to judge this hotel when current renovation work is complete - but there is a lot to do to make it worth £94 a night room only and parking is a nightmare.

Review 78:The room was comfortable with a good sized bathroom. It was quiet with a lovely view of the sea and pier. Our breakfast was well cooked and presented.

Review 79:There was mould in the shower and bathroom wasn't as clean as I would expect from a hotel. Decor was pretty tired and dated.

Review 80:Staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was enjoyable. Location good.

Review 81:We had a very squeaky bed, which kept me awake, and the soaps hadn't been changed in the bathroom and were in a used state from the previous occupants

Review 82:Breakfast was lovely, room ok

Review 83:Nice touches like free bottle of water in the room and plentiful milk for hot drinks. Breakfast was lovely and flexible so you paid for what you wanted rather than "eat all you can".

Review 84:Only issue really was the breakfast as we would have preferred more choice / variety, perhaps combining the fruit and cereal offering with the cooked breakfast option and charging more or offering a buffet style breakfast.

Review 85:Comfortable, large bed. Good sized room as we also had a travel cot in the room for our son. Room was quiet and clean.

Review 86:No heating in room - small room on third floor - had to pay extra for breakfast - hotel covered in scaffolding at the front.

Review 87:On the seafront - but we had a back room

Review 88:Reception staff on leaving not bothered or even attempted to say thanks for staying with us or have a nice day etc Bed creaked and wasn't particularly comfortable. Lounge and restaurant not at all inviting.

Review 89:Breakfast vfm, wifi. Position opposite the seafront, but a long way from old town.

Review 90:You come in from the car park at the back of the hotel on the second floor, then you have to go down to reception on the ground floor then we were on the 3rd floor so we had to go up again. There is a lift but only takes 2 people and it is tight so 1 at a time with a case!! The corridors are so narrow it id difficult with bags and a lot of stairs!!! Our rooms were at the front of the hotel which was ok with the sea view but there are extensive works going on on the pier which started at 7am and to top that my parents had scaffolding right outside there room on the hotel with workmen walking passed there room all Friday and Saturday. Our room had a bad lock that looked as if it had been kicked off at some stage and didn't feel safe and the toilet seat was all over the place and wasn't fixed (surely the cleaner world have picked up on this when cleaning) no l would not go here again.

Review 91:The staff were fine and most friendly. The Cafe where you had breakfast was clean and friendly and the food was really nice. For a hotel the drinks in the bar were very reasonable.

Review 92:The kettle in a wardrobe is a little old fashioned and could be improved by the addition of a shelf on the wall releasing more space for clothes. We only stayed a couple of nights but there wouldn't be enough space for a weeks clothes.

Review 93:The location overlooking the sea was very pleasant. The meals were substantial and not at all expensive. There was a good atmosphere in the bar in the evenings with a mix of residents and local people. The hotel is only a short walk from the town centre.

Review 94:Room too warm, so with window open road was noisy. Black mould in the shower. We weren't told about the scaffolding which spoilt the view.

Review 95:The staff were lovely and breakfast was great. Free carpark was a bonus.

Review 96:Some of the furniture in the room is in poor condition. Carpet stained and grouting black in the bathroom.

Review 97:breakfast was very good. Staff were friendly. Bed was comfortable.

Review 98:Not being allowed to smoke on the terrace . had to cross the road and Sit in a bus shelter

Review 99:The staff were excellent the food was good and the room lovely. Loved the sea view

Review 100:The photos of the rooms are a few years old, the décor had seen better days, the shower was mostly cold, struggled to get to warm, dinning room staff were all over the place, taking several attempts to get the right things to the right tables, became very funny in the end.

Review 101:Staff very friendly, busy place with lots of characters coming and going

Review 102:A request for champagne in the room on arrival was not done but a quick phone call and it was sorted within 5 minutes. Although it may have been my own fault anyway as I think I said we would arrive later than we did

Review 103:Fast response to all requests

Review 104:Room tired, dated, damp - seals gone on all windows so noisy from road. No hot water. Tiniest lift in world - only just fit 2 people squashed! Corridors dark, dingy, cramped and dirty. Front of hotel needs maintenance and upkeep. Extremely overpriced for accommodation!!

Review 105:Great location for theatre Lovely bar and restaurant area Nice staff Reasonably priced food for a hotel

Review 106:We were greeted by freindly staff and made to feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. The hotel has a very nice atmosphere with a good bar/restaurant and a lovely sea facing terrace to enjoy. The room was comfortable, clean, simple and spacious. We will definately be returning.

Review 107:We booked 5 nights with small dog but had smaller room than previously, room okay though, but only one chair. No fridge. No shampoo or shower gel in room. Bathroom floor could have been cleaner. Bathroom walls, smeary, could have done with a wipe over. Washbasin sink blocked.

Review 108:Pet friendly, very important to us. Great location, easy walk to St Leonard's and Hastings Old Town. Hotel has a nice welcoming feel. Great view of the sea and new pier being built. Non-stop food available downstairs Warm comfortable seating downstairs Helpful and friendly staff

Review 109:Our only problem was DOGS. Didnt know it was a dog friendly hotel on booking and not sure if it was just bad luck but there were so many there and dont like them in the dining room.

Review 110:We were upgraded. As a wheelchair user we were given a fabulous room with disabled friendly low bed and chair in the shower. Food was excellent. Staff very friendly

Review 111:The shower did not have a detachable shower head but that was not a major concern.

Review 112:Lovely room with a sea view. There was a big bathroom and the room was really well presented. The staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel had a really nice feeling to it. My partner and I stayed here for New year and it was really special.

Review 113:Bathroom heated towel rail was extremely hot and couldn't be controlled so we had the window open and also the windows of the bedroom open as the whole place was too hot. Bed and pillows bit soft and duvet too heavy.

Review 114:Room which was at rear of hotel was very nice. It was quiet as it did not overlook the road. Breakfast very good.

Review 115:Slippery bath. Booklet does say that non slip bathmat can be requested but I do feel that grab handles and mats should be routinely provided.

Review 116:We were made to feel very welcome. Choice of food at any time of day and until late at night, either in restaurant or bedroom. Space to entertain visitors. Relaxed atmosphere.

Review 117:The room was lovely as was the bathroom& Very comfortable. The staff were helpful & very friendly. And the food in the restaurant was lovely 10/10 for the Thai curry. Had such a lovely stay

Review 118:Very little: the bedroom and corridor decor didn't match that of downstairs but it really didn't bother me. Slightly disturbed by quantities of food at breakfast because I don't like wasting stuff but it's something that I'm sure others would love. Also sad not to be able to stay longer.

Review 119:The position; the free parking; the welcoming staff (who were without exception superb the whole weekend); the well-equipped bathroom with enormous bath and plentiful supplies of shampoo, shower gels etc.; the food; the variety of drinks on offer in the room plus biscuits; the decor downstairs

Review 120:Bedrooms a bit disappointing, need an update. Damp walls round window and smelt damp. Bed fine and bathroom ok. Room 208.

Review 121:Very friendly staff, Food was good, Downstairs in Bar all seem to have been refurbished so very nice. Very convenient for Theatre, Very good ambience after the show when everyone came in for a drink.

Review 122:There are max 4 parking spaces on the road in front of the hotel, tho reception will give you a council voucher for free parking from 16:00-11:00 in the large underground carpark down the road. The lift is more of a glorified dumb-waiter, 2 people at a time at most. Floorboards in the room were very creaky, so must have been irritating for downstairs, but more importantly the window would not latch closed, so we had to improvise to keep the cold out. Room doors are not fitted, so noise and all-night corridor lights can disturb sleep.

Review 123:The downstairs reception and bar areas are well appointed, as is the bathroom, with the best bath we've had in many hotels. Sea views are lovely, just up from Hastings pier, which is being rebuilt after the fire several years ago.Staff are friendly.

Review 124:The salad was a little bit pricey for a salad

Review 125:This was simple the the best hotel I've been to. Couldn't ask for more. Absolutely beautiful inside. Lovely, friendly and helpful staff.

Review 126:The family room is very good. We have stayed at the back of the hotel such is very peaceful and at the front with sea view which can be a little noisier at the weekends.we all have enjoyed our stay there very much friendly staff

Review 127:Nothing really - good value for money, comfortable option in Hastings.

Review 128:Size of rooms and bathroom, friendly and helpful staff, nice location, double beds in the twin room! Tiny little lift was fun too.

Review 129:Stairs are very narrow. Room was on the small side of acceptable.

Review 130:Great location, next to the theatre. Most pet friendly hotel I've ever stayed in. No pet "smells" Welcoming and helpful staff.

Review 131:Heating was a bit late coming on

Review 132:V helpfull staff Really nice, efficient people behind the bar Good breakfast Location (Lying in bed watching the sun rise over the sea) Private car park (bit tight though) Comfortable bed, nice pillows

Review 133:We had a beach view but road was noisy. Have stayed in a room overlooking carpark before and although not as pretty much quieter. Toilet moved! Coffee / making set up in a nice little alcove but went to put kettle on and no electric point!!! Had to take over to desk, unplug tv or lamp, boil kettle and carry hot water back which with 2 dogs in the room a bit dangerous!!!

Review 134:Lovely dining, drinking area thats dog friendly. Good position for exploring the old town/ Rye etc Friendly helpful staff.

Review 135:Window wouldn't close over busy promenade road - Reported and rectified Labrynth like corridor system rather confusing to find reception and car park

Review 136:Sea View Bathroom & Shower Phone charger Good Bar Good modern decor

Review 137:For a very old building the owners are doing very well modernising all the rooms .We had a lovely eaview room with a modern bathroom .The food was good and the staff very helpful

Review 138:During the night the room became very hot and you could smell the cooking from downstairs,Also the hotel dinning room was very dirty and the cooked breakfast was over cooked what a shame as we were looking forward to it.

Review 139:The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was simple but nice.

Review 140:Bed was far too soft and sagged in the middle. No breakfast included. Room was hot and stuffy, but no net curtains for privacy or way to keep window ajar at night.

Review 141:Good position on the front, within walking distance to restaurants, pubs and nightlife.
