Reviews for Waterton Park Hotel

Review 1:Nothing specific.

Review 2:We loved the pool area and changing facilities. Restaurant was really good and the service impeccable. Honestly cannot fault the service. We had a lovely weekend.

Review 3:Some lightbulbs out in the bathroom meant that the bathroom was very dark. Should have really been picked up by maintenance team.... Absolutely NO phone signal at all anywhere in the hotel - on both my handsets - and the wifi (although free of charge) is not very fast at all.

Review 4:Fantastic food in Charlie's Bar. Great portion sizes and real value for money!

Review 5:uneven slabs around Walton Hall Signage from end of access road could be clearer

Review 6:location and friendliness of staff quality of food was excellent view from bedroom

Review 7:The room, although supposed to be an executive double, was in need of updating. The service at breakfast also needs looking at if business clients are to encouraged. Speed and quality is a must

Review 8:The grounds and look of the hotel were excellent. The quality of the breakfast was goo too.

Review 9:Room in need of some simple maintenance to improve overall standard. E.g. The lamp over the desk did not work. One of the bulbs in the bathroom light was not working. Silicone trim around shower needs replacing. Curtains had shrunk in the wash and did not reach the floor, did not meet properly. However these minor defects which could be easily addressed and did not spoil our stay.

Review 10:Lovely quite rural setting. Room overlooked the lake. Friendly staff. Good quality breakfast with lots of choice. Good value for money.

Review 11:Nothing at all.

Review 12:The response I got to a request I made prior to my visit. Rosie was extremely helpful and I thank her for her upgrade and the gift and card that was waiting for my husband.

Review 13:I liked everything but if I had to choose something the breakfast wasn't amazing especially when compared to the restaurant quality dinner

Review 14:Fantastic hotel with amazing restaurant our dinner was great and our room exceeded my expectations with a huge bed that makes my kings sized bed at home look like a single ;)

Review 15:Lovely room apart from a few hygiene issues in the room, there was someone's boxer shorts in the draw, hairs on the floor, mucky towel hung on the back of the door, toilet seat was all yellow underneath.

Review 16:Lovely staff, room, food, views

Review 17:not keen on charlie's grill no otheer option on saturday - restaurant full or sunday restaurant closed breakfast on sunday - buffet needed tidying/cleaning

Review 18:location good size room

Review 19:I rang to ensure we would be staying in the hall as shown on the photo. When we arrived we were bumped out of the hall to the modern building. If I wanted to stay in that kind of accommodation I would have gone to a Holiday Inn for half the price. Very disappointed and annoyed.

Review 20:Beautiful location

Review 21:the hotel rooms were average and in need of a cheer up, the hotel brochure has been very selective in its picture taking, if you judged your room on these, you will be in for a big disappointment. meals were average, for their price, wine prices at the per glass, top end. its a wedding hotel ( sometimes 2 a day ) It was OK. would I go back again?... No

Review 22:The history of the house, the house itself, the grounds and surroundings.

Review 23:Sauna was too cool.

Review 24:Fabulous building in lovely grounds with interesting history. Lovely afternoon spent using steam room, sauna, jacuzzi and pool. Staff friendly. Really good food in the bar in the evening.

Review 25:I didn't like that we had to go over into the other building for dinner. The bridge across to the main hall has very low sides; which I would be really conscious of if I had, had a bit to drink. Also its not very practical if it's raining etc. The food however in the main restaurant was lovely and reasonably priced. Although portions were small and would benefit from side order of seasonal vegetables and potatoes.

Review 26:The room was beautiful. Very spacious and great value for money. I would stay in that room again if we return for a visit.

Review 27:Was woken twice in the night: firstly by muzak in the corridor which was so loud (or the bedroom walls so thin?) that it was clearly audible in our room. Secondly by a drunken guest roaming the hotel looking for company.. Smell of kitchen grease throughout the ground floor of the hotel; facilities faded and not worthy of 4 * rating.

Review 28:The staff were fantastic: friendly and helpful - dealt with our complaints efficiently and courteously and reduced the bill at the end of our stay.

Review 29:The room was not very clean (cob webs and dust) very hard bed with no mattress topper with flat pillows. The wedding party was extremely loud, these events should be separated from the normal clientele, very difficult to have a conversation, noticed several other guests had the same problem. The bar overlooking the pool is a little intrusive, my wife felt she needed to cover up, and could not relax.

Review 30:The room was well presented and spacious. Peace and quiet with fantastic surroundings.

Review 31:My partner cleaned sick from side of toilet thought I had done it I never. And when u tell a chef really well done with steak why they ignore you. Sent it back but spoilt meal. As hate sending food back apart from that great

Review 32:Every thing wish we could of stayed longer

Review 33:A very noisy guest on our 1st night and very foul language meant we were disturbed several times in the night, staff could have managed him better earlier and saved the other guests a disturbing time. But don't let that put you off going there.

Review 34:Great room, great location, great value, great facilities and in the main great staff. Sarah (?) on reception in the main house was brilliant.

Review 35:Shower over bath not a problem but half of shower screen seal had fallen off. Huge tiled bathroom floor flooded. Health and Safety hazzard. Bathroom full of steam. Lighting so poor had to go into corridor to ensure didn't look like a clown. Totally not worth the money. £165.00 ??? Such a shame. As an aside, high windows would suggest a higher end platform so guests don't have to stand up with their room service to appreciate it. Sorry booking.com I'm going back to word of mouth.

Review 36:Lovely setting.

Review 37:Pool like a leisure centre. Heating on full blast was oppressive. Purely a wedding venue. Felt like we were in the way.

Review 38:The setting of the lake was lovely.

Review 39:The bedroom was huge, with a window that was very small at the end of a narrow tunnel like space, giving very little light in the room and making it virtually impossible to enjoy the view. The bedside lamps are very dim, so reading in bed is quite difficult. The tea tray was placed on the bottom shelf of a luggage trolley. Are guests expected to bend down to the floor to get the tray up every time they want a cup of tea? With all the space in the room it is incredible that there is not a suitable surface/table with a socket for the kettle. The bathroom, also huge. The hand towel is in a ring at the opposite end of the bathroom from the basin! There is nowhere to hang the bath towel for ether the bath or the shower. There is no suitable place for a toiletries bag, the very narrow shelf above the basin can barely hold a toothbrush and toothpaste. A four star hotel should at least offer conditioner and hand lotion. It looks as if the person who designed this is a single man who has never boiled water or had a guest in his life!

Review 40:The grounds are lovely

Review 41:Breakfast restaurant staff a little unenthusiastic

Review 42:Reception and evening restaurant staff were fantastic, as was the assistance provided by Kate Clough (Sales Manager) prior to our stay. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent. Rooms were lovely - clean, airy, spacious

Review 43:The wedding party came into the bar area, there was a fracas Police were called! Spa The changing rooms wasn't regularly check water should be scraped away.. Towels too small and no dressing gown. Starter. of bread an oils was very poor no descent selection of bread for dipping!

Review 44:The surroundings, would have been nice to have been able to walk around the lake , no sign post to get there! Waitress who served us was excellent. Availability of the spa . Main was good

Review 45:The decor. It just didn't look right in the old building. When you escape to a place like that, you want to feel like you're in a stately home. Very small touches could make a big difference.

Review 46:The setting was spectacular. Probably the most beautiful setting of any hotel I've stayed in.

Review 47:Room 24 great location but bath water only very tepid. Bedside light not working. Limited heating in bathroom Absence of lift to third floor.

Review 48:good swimming, lovely location cheerful porterage from shore to room on third floor..

Review 49:Someone had vomited in the corridor along to our room, really not nice to come out to in the morning. We left our phone charger in the room but when called to see if they could send it back they claimed it wasn't there :0(

Review 50:Breakfast in the morning was lovely with a wide variety of choice. Helpful night manager who allowed us to have breakfast in alternative dining room as our friends were staying in a different part of the hotel. Stunning view from our room

Review 51:Room was beautiful. Very clean!! Had a bath aswell as a shower which was a winner :) Staff were very pleasant even in the small hours. Would definatley return. Personally I'm not sure why they don't have that fifth star. Even the food was divine!

Review 52:What a find, stunning location, lovely rooms, friendly and attentive staff, breakfast was great, relaxed atmosphere, and after we checked out we were able to use the spa for the following day, the leisure services are in the island hall, the pool and Jacuzzi looking out into the lake. We left there feeling very happy, definitely recommend and will be going back when ever we feel we need to treat ourselves. Thanks Waterton Park Hotel and your staff.

Review 53:I think the reception area looks a little tired and could be updated. Also the bedroom doors should have the closers upgraded. We were woken up several times by doors banging.

Review 54:Rooms very clean and a decent size.

Review 55:I understand that the building is a listed building but come on air conditioning is a must!! The rooms were stuffy and no window could be opened more than a crack! The bedroom was fine again stuffy and lack of air, even with the air unit on, all that did was move the hot air from one corner to the next!! The duvet itself needs refreshing - must be as old as the house!! Also pillows were diabolical !! What's wrong with putting fresh pillows in the cupboard for those that like feathers rather than stuffing!! Or whatever rubbish was in those pillows!! And come on - nearly £100 per night for what - please let me know how that room is worth £100??? Rooms in a 5* hotel in London could outrank this venue!!

Review 56:The main restaurant has no atmosphere and the service needs improvement. Waiting half an hour for bread, which we had to ask twice for, before the main course arrived is not acceptable. The food itself is pretty good.

Review 57:No robe. No body lotion. No fridge. Disappointing as hotel living off wedding industry and seems to think the little things don't matter to people.

Review 58:Grounds lovely. Staff very pleasant.

Review 59:Dated interiors, views of car park from new building and website deceptive as mainly wedding related guests stay in main hall. Staff helpful but unfriendly very few smiles etc so you feel they are going through the motions. Keycard stopped working. Bad quality coffee.

Review 60:Beautiful lake

Review 61:I don't have a bad word to say in honesty. A perfect stay.

Review 62:Absolutely stunning scenery. Very helpful staff.. beautiful grounds. Excellent facilities. Huge, comfortable bed.

Review 63:As we went in to Charlies bar in the Sunday night the wedding party that were using the hotel started coming into the dining area bawling and shouting, the language was disgusting this soon emerged into a full on fight. The police were called and it continued for some time, I heard one of the wedding party say , some bloke outside is complaining he's paid £200 for a room and has to put up with this" he then stated laughing, I was disgusted,We came to hotel for a relaxing weekend and it was far from it, I certainly will not return

Review 64:The surroundings,

Review 65:web site showed the Hall on the island and not the hotel accommodation on the main land which was a little misleading as we expected to stay on the island

Review 66:location

Review 67:Attention to detail for a 4* hotel. Double executive suite was 2 single beds put together. You would expect a double or king sized bed. With the tea making facilities there was only one two pack of Biscuits and one hot chocolate. No water either. Lighting not great in room at the dressing table.

Review 68:Location for great countryside and Sculpture Park. Leisure facilities good if a little tired. There is a notice promising an upgrade. Staff are friendly. Charles Bar was good pub food but bar a little soulless.

Review 69:The coffee at breakfast wasn't great.

Review 70:Fabulous setting. Quiet, delightful views of the lake from our room, super walks and convenient for the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. A real surprise and very good value.

Review 71:Poor lighting in the bedroom. i.e. unable to read a book at night. This is typical of many hotels nowadays. No lift to upper floor bedrooms

Review 72:Excellent food in restaurant and at breakfast. Room / bathroom spotlessly clean.

Review 73:The food in the dining room was very good and the staff attentive and pleasant. Good breakfast. I very much enjoyed the views of the lake and the bridge across to the hotel was a quaint touch but maybe not so good in winter. We didn't have time to use the pool and gym but they looked to be very nice. With good views over the lake.

Review 74:We had twin beds pushed together, with a huge dip in the middle. Staff were quick to put it right and compensated us for the inconvenience. Also as lovely a the room was I'm not convinced it was an executive room. Think I expected a four poster.

Review 75:Grounds are amazing and staff really friendly

Review 76:Staff were inexperienced and it showed throughout our stay. We struggled to get a table in the restaurant as staff claimed it was too busy, we were then informed there had been a cancellation so they could squeeze us in but there were only 4 tables occupied throughout our meal. The food was delicious but the menu incomplete. My partner and I ordered the steak which came with potatoes which contained cheese to which my partner has an allergy, he'd already taken a bite before realising this. This led to a very long poorly night.

Review 77:The location

Review 78:Once out of the communal areas the wallpaper is peeling, the bathroom had a lot of mold, the bedside cabinet was so crooked glasses just slid off it onto the floor. Needs some love / updating to give full value for the high price.

Review 79:Great location, friendly staff, very attractive communal and eating areas

Review 80:My pillows were lumpy and I would have preferred a double bed. I hardly slept at all, the room was also very warm. I had room 22

Review 81:The location and views were amazing a really charming place. The food was excellent and the service was first class from all staff.

Review 82:We love this hotel but it is in need of a general spruce up our room was large and well equipped but the bathroom stank..probably a leaking toilet behind the boxed in pipes, the carpet needed a clean and paintwork needed redoing. Tile grout in the shower was dirty with mould. When your paying £110 a night you do expect a bit better.

Review 83:Surroundings and the staff are always exceptional.

Review 84:The location's wonderful, the room was superb, the food was very good, and the staff were helpful, friendly & unobtrusive. We'd absolutely stay there again.

Review 85:Its a bit scruffy. I realise that the period nature make it difficult to maintain but it was scruffy in places.

Review 86:The surroundings are amazing. The staff were excellent. The food was beautifully prepared.

Review 87:our room, though lovely and big was a bit dowdy... furnished in browns. saw that other rooms were furnished in lovely bright colours. colour scheme in our room was dull.

Review 88:the location

Review 89:More attention to detail in room e.g. light shade missing

Review 90:Breakfast was delicious, dining room lovely, Walton Hall is amazing building.Surrounding areas beautiful.

Review 91:Wish they had a sofa but that's just because the rooms were so nice you would think you were in your own country home

Review 92:The whole area and staff where amazing the food was to perfection and a standard room looked like a honeymoon sweet

Review 93:Some of the staff seemed very inexperienced and hadn't quite worked out what makes a 4* Hotel a 4* Hotel. Although pleasant and helpful, when things went a bit wrong (very long wait at busy breakfast) they wanted to explain/ excuse rather than get on with sorting the problem. No staff on reception in new part of hotel at night which made us feel a bit neglected.

Review 94:Great location for running and leisure facilities. Rooms very comfortable.

Review 95:Lost our cooked breakfast order in kitchen on Monday morning, gave up after waiting 30 mins. Restaurant atmosphere spoiled by noise from wedding disco. Bedroom too warm for our preference, would have like lighter bed covers. Management did give us a partial refund.

Review 96:Food generally very good. Executive bedroom huge with lovely bathroom.

Review 97:No lift and the bed was a bit small and bumpy.

Review 98:Great location in the middle of a lake. Good evening meal and great Yorkshire breakfast. Huge room and large bathroom.

Review 99:The leisure facilities. The pool and changing rooms were smelly and in need if a clean. In the room the tea and coffee tray had an open/ half eaten packet of biscuits. Very disappointing for a four star hotel.

Review 100:The views

Review 101:Lots of staff at breakfast but not young staff very well trained. Tea in pot cold. Toast took a long time to come. Shame some of the decor a little shabby eg lovely old doors need rubbing down and re varnishing.

Review 102:The location. Toast soldiers cutter for toast with boiled eggs.

Review 103:Was overall really happy with Waterton however a free bottle of wine or discounted room would not have gone a miss considering we just spent thousands booking our wedding with the hotel. :-)

Review 104:Stayed at Waterton Park to book our wedding. Loved it.

Review 105:Attention to detail in bathroom. Not cleanliness details but maintenance. Cracked grouting, loose tap, heavilly scaled shower head and broken runner on shower door. Cooked breakfast portions could have been bigger.

Review 106:Location, facilities and size of room. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Review 107:Nothing

Review 108:We liked every thing about the hotel. The staff were really friendly, helpful, pleasant and efficient, from check in to check out. The booking was a surprise gift for us, everything was seemless. We attended a Wedding, everything was so well organised. It was a beautiful setting.

Review 109:Bacon not done enough on breakfast but I'm sure if we had asked for well done bacon they would have done it for us

Review 110:Facilities were excellent as was the Resturant full marks to the chef

Review 111:There was a very limited room service menu, I didn't arrive until 9.10pm, and really would have liked to have had more choice than sandwiches.

Review 112:The hotel was really good value, the room was spotless and beautifully decorated. The bed was so comfortable, and the overall area was peaceful and quiet. Breakfast was excellent.

Review 113:Discussed requirements for afternoon tea & evening meal with staff before visit, all organised before arrival, very helpful before and on arrival, staff very helpful & polite during visit, made the weekend feel special as we'd hoped, will visit again

Review 114:Disappointed not to be in the main Georgian and in the other section which is undergoing a lot of refurbishment. Breakfast fruits were off.

Review 115:Size of room. Hot, cooked breakfast was good.

Review 116:The staff were very welcoming, room spotless, comfortable & impressive and the location was perfect. Service second to none and we shall definitely return.

Review 117:Lack of a Lounge in which one could relax and read newspapers, books etc. Difficulties with plastic key cards in gaining access to the room

Review 118:Picturesque and very quiet venue, excellent service, wonderful leisure facilities

Review 119:Not enough spaces to sit in the spa area. Over Lively children in spa pool .....

Review 120:Good location. Basic but Pleasant spa facilities. Lovely setting. Good breakfast

Review 121:I did not like the fact we could not get into restaurant for a evening meal and the female staff in Charlie's bar lacked customer interaction and made us feel like it was. A chore to serve us

Review 122:The view from our room was lovely the room was nice and clean

Review 123:I didn't have a bad experience.

Review 124:Very good value for money, its a bit off the beaten track but I found that to be a positive as the setting is very relaxing. staff were friendly and everything i needed was catered for.

Review 125:Smell of chlorine in the bar. On going building works. Cleaners carrying used sheets and towels through dining/bar area. We didn't eat here for some of these reasons.

Review 126:Room and service excellent

Review 127:The staff are untrained and the building needs attention and a good clean - our bedroom cannot be said to have been thoroughly cleaned for some time - dust of ages on the radiator etc. etc. The uneven floor wasn't allowed for by the 'modern four poster bed' (which I don't like anyway) that rolled you to the middle as a consequence. Customer service definitely not a strong point.

Review 128:An extraordinary and historic hotel in a unique setting, perched on a tiny island in a man made lake. The only access is over a tiny foot bridge, over the 'moat'.

Review 129:Between us there wasn't anything we didn't like... However, to improve we feel the guest should be provided with Waterton Park Hotel Gowns and slippers... For comfort purposes but most of all to use to and from the leisure facilities...

Review 130:Can not complain about anything! We had a fantastic night, the staff was chatty and welcoming... And had an amazing view from our room.... We will most definitely be returning... Many thanks!

Review 131:For the price the food was alright but not better The standard double bed was too small to sleep comfortably in; we were told on checkout that the larger beds, featured on the website images, were "premium", meaning we pay extra; having to pay extra to sleep well is just disgraceful - and english disease? Restaurant alright, but for the price, very poor value Restoration/decoration of what looks like a beautiful old building - utterly tasteless.

Review 132:Lovely setting Friendly and helpful staff

Review 133:Not sure I can think of anything, maybe just make sure litter round refuse area is checked up on, but all considered its a small point. -

Review 134:Excellent. Fabulous location. The staff were extremely kind & helpful. The rooms in Walton Hall were very comfortable & dinner & breakfast in the restaurant was very good indeed, and all this despite a wedding taking place on the day our party arrived & several Christmas 'parties' taking place that evening. 10 out of 10 without a doubt.

Review 135:Poor access and tight car park. No footpath and minimal lighting up the road outside the gates. Delays getting electric gates to open.

Review 136:Comfortable,but bar over the bridge (50-100yds). Clumsy seeming breakfast arrangement meant not everything was available if there was a bit of a rush.

Review 137:Used peanut wrappers and sugar sachets in bedside cabinet, adjacent room (room service) dinner plates left out all evening and into next morning, breakfast staff poured left-over milk from each table back into main milk jug used for cereals, "big bacon sandwich" was just two rashers of bacon inside two limp pieces of brown bread. We have stayed at Waterton several times (including our honeymoon) and will return in the future. Hopefully the comments will be of use.

Review 138:Room

Review 139:We were not told about the car park exit code on arrival and when trying to exit found this out so had to go back inside to get the code! Also breakfast on a Sunday morning is only open from 7:30-9:30. Not very long compared to other hotels I've stayed at. Checkout at 10:30 was earlier than I would have liked aswel. All in all I would stay at this hotel again.

Review 140:Lovely modern hotel, bedroom was spacious and clean. Even though there was a wedding do on, we could not here this from our room and this did not keep us awake. Woke up feeling refreshed.

Review 141:Garden surround of hotel is lovely however quite a lot of animal poo dotted around the patio, cigarette ends etc. Bathroom nice but toilet seat felt like it was about to fall off, plug quite blocked in bath as water draining very slowly when having a shower, no shampoo left in the dispenser. Thought 'Charlie's Bar' let the hotel down slightly, had a 'Wetherspoons' sort of feel to it and the smell of chlorine when you walk in isn't exactly appetising, drinks at bar incredibly overpriced as well, nearly £9 for a Bulmers and a Diet Coke!? A nice stay, paid £90 for the room and to be honest wouldn't have wanted to pay any more than this.

Review 142:Beautiful views, lovely room and bathroom with nice décor, good breakfast and very friendly staff at breakfast and on reception.
