Reviews for York House Hotel

Review 1:Small bathroom but managable, not the cheapest in the area but does have a car park but first come first serve on spaces.

Review 2:First room I was given was freezing (-2 outside and radiator did not work), then moved to a quadruple room with working heating.

Review 3:Beds need to be renewed. Very uncomfortable. Room needs to be modenised. Lack of communication when ordering breakfast and enquiring about dietry issues.

Review 4:Location was great for what we needed, Shower was great but for a family of 4 the bathroom was small. The bedroom was spacious enough for 1 night.

Review 5:Breakfast staff and breakfast arrangement where poor not very welcoming to the point we had to riase the issue with the owner.

Review 6:Great food very clean comfortable conditions. Would use again.Great bar "Elliotts" 3 to 5 min walk away on George and Crown yard very friendly staff.

Review 7:There were a couple of areas in the bathroom that needed attention (broken towel hook/rusting radiator), we would have appreciated better shower gel/soap considering the price paid for the room. The hotel was generally a little cold.

Review 8:The room was comfortable, the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good. Great location - a short walk from Westgate station and the town centre.

Review 9:No view, my first room had frosted windows, and the alternative overlooked a yard with the adjacent clubs dustbins. The very bright and blue/cold lighting in all the bedroom and bathroom lights, felt clinical and un cosy! but the adjustable heating and restaurant staff made it warm

Review 10:the very friendly and pleasant restaurant for dinner and breakfast the following day

Review 11:First class shower, with easy to operate temperature. Excellent English breakfasts.Nice, modern, clean, comfortable beds. Nice warm room. Friendly, helpful staff.

Review 12:The room was much very much smaller than I anticipated. I don't know if that is the standard size room but when I booked there were other slightly more expensive rooms available. Had I of known that the room would have been so small I would have looked for a bigger one when booking. Also window just looked over a covered courtyard.

Review 13:It was a good location, very close to a lot of cultural venues. The staff were very friendly.

Review 14:The Bathroom in the deluxe room only had a flimsy blind that you could see through we were on the top floor but a curtain or better blind is needed as you feel people can see in. Towels needed to be bath sheets too small for me otherwise all perfect!

Review 15:The Staff are very friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble its a family run business and so has a great atmosphere. The food is very good not gourmet but good value for money. However all the prawn dishes were superb! The location of the Hotel was ideal and next to The Theatre Royal Wakefield which is a wonderful theatre.

Review 16:No vegetarian sausages! But the mushrooms arrived cooked with butter and pepper...that's rare!

Review 17:Free room upgrade - lovely room and en suite. Convenient location. Very helpful and pleasant staff.

Review 18:The breakfast was cheap and nasty. We had the early evening meal for 9.99 each, but it was no cheaper than ordering on the day. coffee was not included, but not explained.

Review 19:The room was lovely and staff very pleasant.

Review 20:Think the hotel could do with air fresheners, just to take off edge of cleaning products, especially bathroom.

Review 21:Good stay, decent location. Nice breakfast Great shower

Review 22:The only other downside was that we could hear the other guests in their rooms quite clearly!

Review 23:Booked one night at York House for myself and 2 friends. We booked a family room and it was very spacious. The location was very central and within easy access to the train station and local nightlife which is what we wanted. We had breakfast included, we was fair. We went down at 10:10 and we found that there was no orange juice or clean glasses and had to wait for them to be refilled.

Review 24:Very noisy with many people walking past in the middle of the night. Dust cart on Monday, outside window at 5.00am. Had to ask for milk in the room

Review 25:Near the station, good restaurant next door reasonably priced, good breakfast

Review 26:Could have done with another mirror we were two sister wanting to do make up only one mirror other than bathroom which wasn't convenient.

Review 27:The food was excellent .

Review 28:Don't like squeeky floorboards Don't care for the shower door to open directly into the bedroom space. The full English breakfast meal could have been warmer.

Review 29:Room was quiet at night Fridge in the room was a nice touch, but if you are a light sleeper its motor, when it cuts in, could become intrusive.

Review 30:Nothing really; perhaps just to mention that there were stairs within the room itself; from the hallway and bathroom there were 3 steps into the bedroom; this would cause difficulties with customers with disabilities.

Review 31:Everything. Lovely hotel, excellent location, good price, warm, comfortable.

Review 32:The carpet in the room was not very cean. There was a lot of fluff on the floor as well as permanent stains. I absolutely HATE when two single beds are pushed together to make a 'double' bed. One of the mattresses was in a very bad state so I had to use only one of them in the end.

Review 33:It was close to train station and venue for my meetings. The shower was very good!

Review 34:There were 12 of us so no bar area to sit and chat.

Review 35:Ideal location near the station and centre of town. Restaurant next door was ideal and staff were all very welcoming and friendly.

Review 36:Breakfast was not to the standard of the rest of the hotel it all looked like it needed a bit more effort . If you don't want " Full English " then the choice was really limited hardly any fruit or other choice

Review 37:Staff were really helpful and friendly it felt like nopthing was too much trouble

Review 38:The bed was a little too large for the size of the room and the en-suite was very small. There was not enough room for a suitable work surface and the little work surface was difficult to use as there was insufficient room to get legs under it. When the chair was pushed out from the work surface it was not possible to walk past it as it was up against the bed.

Review 39:Everything was very clean. The bed was very comfortable.

Review 40:I was a bit surprised to find a flight of steps in my room between the bedroom part and the door and bathroom. I have mobility problems and also, in the dark, (I never turn on the light during the night) I was worried about falling up or down the stairs going to the loo. I realise this is because they'd put a couple of old buildings together but I think guests should be asked if they are OK with this at the point of booking and given a room without steps if there are issues.

Review 41:Really handy for the station and for the venue (Unity Works) I was attending that day. The reception staff was very helpful as I arrived way before check in just to dump bags and use the facilities, have a cuppa and that was all fine

Review 42:Our bathroom still had previous guest rubbish in bathroom bin. Lack of toiletries in bathroom for a deluxe room. Restaurant waitress useless.

Review 43:Location to where we needed to be. Reception staff good.

Review 44:The manager of the hotel was extremely helpful as we needed a taxi booking which he sorted for us. The room was beautiful. We had the bridal suite. Such a lovely hotel. Lovely staff. Would recommend this hotel 100%

Review 45:If I was going to 'complain', maybe weak tea and no sauce at breakfast. No problems at all.

Review 46:The room, especially bathroom was very modern and clean. Breakfast was nice, and for £55 for a twin room was one of the best value hotels I've ever stayed in.

Review 47:White paint on Onsuite floor decorators need to check this when finishing off. Small fridge on floor would look better built in a unit with the tea making facilities there to

Review 48:Room was very clean modern shower Onsuite nicely decorated warm and comfortable

Review 49:There was a hole in the en-suite on the way in and next to the shower, where your foot would naturally land, so you had to try to remember to avoid it. A missing floorboard had been covered over by lino, Someone should have this fixed before someone's shoe or foot goes through it. The milk in the bedroom was sour on arrival, which made us question when our bedroom was last attended to. At breakfast, there were large chips out of the milk jug and the coffee pot. Both should have been put out of use.

Review 50:The room we stayed in was well proportioned, the beds were comfortable, the breakfast was adequate and the room rate was very favourable. In spite of a few complaints, we'd be likely to stay here again for the affordability factor.

Review 51:Totally functional. No decor No character It felt a little grubby Poor breakfast choice

Review 52:Convenient for Hepworth gallery, Yorkshire Sculpture Park and Leeds

Review 53:Early train meant no hot breakfast available unsatisfactory considering restaurant on premises and price of accommodation

Review 54:Great location 5minutes from Wakefield westgate

Review 55:Friday and Saturday night were so loud due to the next door nightclub, which shit off at 4am... Then the fights, bottle bins and drunken conversations spilled into the streets. Thankfully after that it was quiet until a dog somewhere in the hotel started barking, thankfully this only lasted for 90 minutes?!

Review 56:There was a bed in the room, the bathroom was lovely, though tiny and breakfast was included.

Review 57:Our room was spacious, with a comfortable bed and lovely en-suite. Room was very clean and we both slept well with no noisy music or people. Staff were very attentive and helpful.

Review 58:Soundproofing isn't good. Noisy when people come in at 6am!

Review 59:The location was perfect as we were attending a concert at Unity Works. Staff were very helpful.

Review 60:Nothing at all wrong with this hotel

Review 61:This was a last minute idea we just needed a break, I couldn't believe how nice the staff and hotel was for the value we paid, from the moment we arrived we were greeted with a friendly face, the room was lovely, very quiet

Review 62:breakfast could have been better. Was expecting a nice buffet but instead was served an egg with 2 tomatoes and 5 mushrooms as the "veggie" option. A bit stingy with the toasts! Was a family of 7 and given literally 7 halves of slices of bread.

Review 63:Unfortunately being so close to Wakefield Westgate the hotel is convenient for people having a good night out on the town who don't always respect other guests. Not sure what the owners can do about this.

Review 64:Very friendly staff in both the hotel and restaurant. Very warm welcome.

Review 65:Presentation & decor could be a lot better for the price we paid. A lot of the building could do with painting & reception needs tidying up.

Review 66:Location

Review 67:The room was dirty, the floor had not been hoovered. The furniture was old and shabby and the whole hotel had a run-down feeling. In the bar I was charged £14.10 for two glasses of sangria and a lemonade! I asked how come it was more expensive than one jug of sangria and was told 'i should have had a jug as it is cheaper' as the prices were not displayed or discussed I was amazed by this!

Review 68:It is convenient for the station, and the bathroom was nice an modern, obviously recently refurbished.

Review 69:(Not the hotels fault) but a rowdy lad could not wake his mate to get back in the next room to ours at 4 am so very loud and really just an annoyance to us

Review 70:The food was really excellent and the service too, the room was perfect we had a room with 4 single beds and it was very clean , The shower was good powerful and hot, Room had TV, Mini fridge, Fan and an opening window , very good value for money, close to everything we needed and the Car park was a good size.We will 100% return

Review 71:Breakfast was rushed. Asked to order the cooked part before had even sat down or had chance to read and consider the choices. Needless to say it arrived for we had finished the cereals so not leisurely or enjoyable.

Review 72:Central location couldn't have been better, comfy big bed (booked the super king), lovely big, modern bathroom with big shower.

Review 73:Much smaller room than last time I stayed there but at the same

Review 74:Asked for breakfast for 5:15 as needed to get out early; they obliged without any fuss - brilliant

Review 75:Room was like a cuboard bathroom was tiny needs updating . Went for late night drink at bar bar man and staff sat around very rude talking in foreign language .

Review 76:Restaurant was excellent

Review 77:Poor choice and quality at breakfast, very tired room, very small with shower actually in the room

Review 78:Good location, friendly and helpful receptionist, good wifi

Review 79:Staff friendly but disorganised. Reception was shut and we had to check in at the bar. They then gave our room number to a second guest who tried to get into our room. Also, our first floor room was beside the door to a balcony used by smokers and as a result the smell of cigarette smoke penetrated into our room. It was revolting. The bed was huge but the room was so small that the bathroom door could not be fully opened as it hit the end of the bed.

Review 80:The shower was terrific

Review 81:Over-priced. Thin walls / noisy. "Deluxe Double" not as spacious or exciting as it sounds! Very average breakfast.

Review 82:Location great for Westgate Station, shops and nightlife.

Review 83:one of the coffee mugs had stains around the top, nothing serious but should have been clean.

Review 84:It was close to all that we wanted and it was friendly and welcoming.

Review 85:Dirty bathroom. White marks on the bathroom floor. Smell from the shower drainage plug. Breakfast was average. The tomato was horrific and I actually gagged when I tried it. Yogurts out of date. I arrived late and it almost seemed a hassle for them. restaurant service could be better, again seems as though its a hassle to deal with any requests.

Review 86:Spacious room. Big fan included in the room. Nice bar area.

Review 87:AA refurbished hotel that was surprising ly good. I had neber been to Wakefield before and instead of the run down town I expected I found a viabrant rebuilt city and the hotel reflected this.

Review 88:Hotel owner said we could have bacon sandwiches and coffee to go for breakfast as we were leaving before breakfast was served. When we rang to porter in morning he said it was not possible, even after we stated the hotel owner had said we could. Not impressed!!!!

Review 89:The mini bar fridge hummed all night Thin walls between rooms Church bells ringing on Sunday morning

Review 90:The room was clean, fresh and tidy Easy check in Friendly staff

Review 91:Steps into corridors difficult with lots of luggage. Noise from other late night guests

Review 92:Friendly and helpful staff - lovely food in sloanes restaurant which hotel also run.

Review 93:Room got a little hot with 3 adults in it but there was a fan provided.

Review 94:The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Rooms were very nice and bathroom ideal, with good working shower.

Review 95:The breakfast was poor and staff were inattentive requiring me to ask for service and menu options which was unnecessary with only 3 other people dining at the time. The dinner service was much better. The reception was also never open and all queries had to be directed to restaurant/bar staff who did not have the relevant information.

Review 96:The location was good for my work and the room was comfortable. I had a problem with my invoice which was resolved quickly.

Review 97:Dangerous doorways - VERY low and skinned the top of my head. First breakfast I had a dirty table, had to ask for milk for tea, had to ask for knife and fork. Second day much better.

Review 98:Location and value for money

Review 99:Reception offered us a £5.00 voucher if we spent £25 in restaurant when settling the bill the manager said you have to spend £25.00 Each we were not pleased, the food was very good.

Review 100:Beans may have been a bit cold but it is negligible as complaints go.

Review 101:I didn't realise it came with a cooked english breakfast. It was good. Very simple procedure, pay, get key, drop key in box at end. No interaction with anyone at all which I very much like and count as a bonus but some may like more attention.

Review 102:Room was too small therefore the sockets was hidden behind the bed. Was only offered one drink at breakfast the room was on the dirty side (pubic hairs in the sink

Review 103:Breakfast want all that good.. Carpet was scruffy..the rooms need updating .. Shower very small not good for a big person steps going down into the shower and steps going down to the bed.. Weird lol

Review 104:Fantastic position in centre of Wakefield .. Staff was nice..parking spaces available..

Review 105:Great, clean comfy room with plenty of extra pillows. We were given a quiet room as requested. Staff fantastic. Food in Sloanes restaurant gorgeous and value for money (early bird menu)

Review 106:The breakfast wasn't that good. The staff just seemed to be going about their business.

Review 107:The bed was very comfortable & the bathroom was spotlessly clean.

Review 108:The mattress was low & bit hard for me,the sunday dinner's have no potatoe's on.We asked the waiter where was the potatoe's & he was more than happy to get us some. The drink's are expensive.

Review 109:The staff were very happy people, the breakfast was lovely, could have done with some more tea & coffee in the room.Free wi-fi & free parking is on site which is a bonus,& the main street is just a few minute's walk a great location. There is a smoking balcony on the 1st floor so you don't need to stand on the street.

Review 110:Breakfast seemed to be designed for the early starters. Buffet bar removed shortly after 9 and no checks to make sure there was nothing further I wanted. No toast was offered. To be fair I was the only diner, but service seemed grudging. My advice is go to breakfast well before the 9am deadline so you can finish breakfast by 9am.

Review 111:Bedroom was clean with a good shower and comfortable bed. Most of the staff very helpful though breakfast not exactly served with a smile.

Review 112:Only made the bed on second day, didn't empty bins or replenish tea/coffee. Smell of cigarette smoke in corridor and through open windows in our rooms although non smoking hotel!

Review 113:Close to the station which suited us as we wanted to visit other places on Yorkshire. It was quiet but we were there mid week . Very close to lots of night clubs so could be very different at the weekend.

Review 114:I had a slightly odd-shaped room (108) with too many beds and an adapted bathroom for wheelchair use which had a tiny basin and an awkward glass shelf. Not well thought through. Would have liked better fruit selection at breakfast.

Review 115:Excellent receptionist, good food, very pleasant dining room staff

Review 116:Bathroom filthy and not due to maintenance, definitely poor housekeeping. Badly trained receptionist, possibly he had only been employed a few days. As we were a late arrival, it seemed deliberate that we were allocated a low standard, dirty room when other reviews comment on how nice the refurbished rooms are. I know they weren't full as when booked we were given the option to select more than one room. Weren't aware that after we had paid that it was then appropriate to ask for ID. No info on breakfast so we had no breakfast...

Review 117:Nothing ;-)

Review 118:Great location. ... One minute stroll from the railway station. Very clean hotel. Unfortunately can't comment on breakfast as I was never out of bed on time.

Review 119:Where do I start... A family room booked which had seen better days, the bathroom had black mould in the shower, the mini bar was so noisy I thought the wind was blowing through the roof.. we turned it off and peace was resumed. Breakfast was good and plenty of it. However it was the night time shenanigans that was interesting... Both my brother/sister in law and us had our rooms entered by someone in the middle of the night.. Whilst this was down to broken key card system in the hotel and a similar name in the hotel register it still doesn't make it ok. A paltry offer was made which I thought was per couple and transpires was for one room only... Not impressed!! Both rooms were family rooms and had children sleeping in them it should have been obvious the drunken lout was not from a family room. Having said all that my parents in law where on the opposite side of the hotel which appears to have had a makeover and slept well un-interupted.

Review 120:The sunny terrace at the front

Review 121:Difficulty finding it driving round and trying to read road names whilst navigating one way systems - but not fault of hotel

Review 122:Comfortable room and helpful staff Free parking

Review 123:Could do with curtains as well as blinds also double glazing we could hear bar area music and people talking til early hours

Review 124:Staff were lovely, breakfast lovely, hotel, bar, outside area really nice

Review 125:The staff were not particularly friendly (although not rude) and it took a long time to attract the attention of the barman at check in (main reception was closed). It was handy to have a minibar in the room, but the fridge was quite noisy and woke me up a couple of times in the night.

Review 126:This hotel is very well placed for Wakefield Westgate station. It is good value for money and the room I stayed in seemed to be recently decorated.

Review 127:We chose the York House Hotel because of the good location and of course the price. We were not disappointed ! The restaurant was extremely good with friendly and helpful staff, especially Sahara, yes that is is his name !!. many thanks for a very pleasant stay,we would not hesitate to book again.

Review 128:We love staying here, we travel as a group often and when we visit Wakefield we always stay here! Great staff, fab location, clean and comfortable rooms and very accommodating in every way!

Review 129:No problems at all on my stay

Review 130:Stayed over on a business trip for one night. Right in the centre if yown. The hotel is connected to an Italian restaurant so thought I may as well eat there. The food was excellent, service very friendly and good value. I also enjoyed full English breakfast. For the price I paid it was really good value.

Review 131:The fact that sleep was impossible because of drunken, marauding other guests. Reception was ramshackle. Had we not booked, we would have made a quick exit.

Review 132:The shower

Review 133:Afraid my colleagues who also used the hotel did have a very noisy night and little sleep as their room was next to a group of young men intent on partying through the night.

Review 134:Hotel very comfortable, clean and well placed in Wakefield

Review 135:Didn't get asked what we wanted for breakfast they just brought 4 of us a cooked breakfast without asking what we wanted on it. Couldn't even drink the coffee

Review 136:Good location

Review 137:When we showed for breakfast around 9:30 AM (cut off was at 10:30 AM), they were out of milk and juices, which wasn't replenished.

Review 138:Great location, friendly staff, fast Wifi - on top of that, great price!
