Reviews for The Stag Hotel
Review 1:Very friendly welcome and all staff helpful. The room was large, clean and comfortable, albeit a bit old fashioned. The bar meal we had was excellent quality and very good value.
Review 2:This was our second visit but this time with different owners! We had 2 young children with us and there was very loud music playing on both nights we were there - had we been made aware of this at the time of the booking we would have made alternative arrangements. There was also black mould in the bathroom both on the wall and the shower curtain itself - we couldn't bath our 10 month old granddaughter. I think the owners really need to consider whether they really want to continue having paying guests or concentrate on the bar/restaurant.
Review 3:The food was excellent.
Review 4:Strong spring on bedroom door gave me a really sore arm for the rest of the holiday. Told the girl when paying the bill but she wasn’t really interested. Still bruised three weeks later!
Review 5:Good location for seeing the area. Staff friendly and helpful.
Review 6:Wasn't the warmest of welcomes however we did turn up at 12 and check in is 3pm. However the room was big and clean, the beds comfy and the shower was hot : ) would stay again .
Review 7:Location on the high street
Review 8:Our room was at the front overlookjng the main road. We showed out concern and we're promised it eoukdnt b noisy. She wasn't telling the truth and we all barely slept. I should have adjef for a rear room as mid week as was suspicious. Realky noisy traffic all night.
Review 9:Toilet handle broken worried it would not flush mended day before we left ,think this should have been mended straight away, was told odd job man was busy as he also worked in kitchen. Not our problem as paid a fair amount for room otherwise enjoyed stay.
Review 10:Nice food staff very good
Review 11:Some of the bedroom furniture could do with an update.
Review 12:Fair size clean room and comfortable bed. Good pub atmosphere and drinks. Excellent breakfast. Friendly and helpful staff. Especially the young lady serving behind the bar and at breakfast.
Review 13:We found the landlord and lady very friendly and welcome all the staff were very helpful and friendly the food was very good great atmosphere just a really great place to stay.
Review 14:Lovely hotel in the centre of Lyndhurst within walking distance of everything you need. Great staff and a lovely breakfast. Car parking and wi fi a definite plus!
Review 15:I asked for bottled water when going to bed - the answer was we've never done that in the 18 months I've been here. It states it on your Booking. com confirmation. We were also told at breakfast when ordering coffee with hot milk that "we don't do hot milk in the morning". The chef has the kitchen so they couldn't use a pan and they were reluctant to put the jug in the microwave in case it cracked.
Review 16:Comfortable and clean bedroom
Review 17:Car park at the rear, but no idea how to get to it, so parked in main high st car park opposite
Review 18:Range of hand pull beers. Great choice menu. Rooms nice and clean with the usual trimmings
Review 19:Having booked a single room (room 9) it came as no surprise to find it was right at the top, up two flights of stairs, but the major problem was the constant noise from the plumbing! It was as though the plumbing for every tap and the all the toilet flushing ran through pipes in the room walls or under the floor!
Review 20:Lovely old hotel with an excellent restaurant, staff were very friendly, although the owner never did actually acknowledge me, the rest of the staff were great. The room was very clean and the tea/coffee facilities were well stocked. I ordered a steak in the restaurant and it was served piping hot in just a few moments, perfectly cooked and reasonably priced for a hotel restaurant.
Review 21:Breakfast starts at 7.30 - as in - they get ready at 7.30, it's not there for you to eat at 7.30.
Review 22:The rooms were amazing - really big, really clean, amazing beds, duvets and pillow. Despite being next to the road, noise was minimal/zero.
Review 23:The breakfast..not enough choice and terrible coffee and the loud radio music playing all the time..not exactly relaxing and an enjoyable experiance.
Review 24:That there was a bath !!
Review 25:Very minor issues - wifi a little bit slow, room a bit compact. Nothing that would stop me going back.
Review 26:Very comfortable bed. Great breakfast. Nice location for local restaurants. Handy car park to the rear. Very good value.
Review 27:Me and the wife travelled down from the midlands for the bank holiday weekend, and on arrival we were made welcome, the room was warm and cosy, the bed very comfortable, and for the food it was very good and value for money, I can honestly say we'll be staying here again in the future and have already recommended to friends, just want to say thanks to the friendly staff
Review 28:The rain.
Review 29:Nice friendly hotel, well located with large car park and good food. Ideal for what we wanted. Small but nice town well placed for the New Forrest area.
Review 30:As I was leaving at 7am every morning I was to early for breakfast. It would nave been a nice guesture to offer a Bacon butty or something as the Chef was there.
Review 31:I was staying for work. So after a long day the stag had everything clean rooms, hot shower, comfortable bed, good food and helpful staff, plus ample parking. I will be staying there again next year.
Review 32:A minor niggle but we arrived on a Sunday when the traffic was very heavy and didn't realise that the hotel car park was at the rear - down a road you pass before you reach the front of the hotel. We had to pay to use the public car park to go to the hotel to find the location of the car park. Then we have to join the heavy traffic and go all around the town. Had we known to take the turning before the High Street we'd have saved all that.
Review 33:Great position, clean and comfy, if not luxurious, rooms. The bar is obviously a locals' regular haunt so there's a great atmosphere. Next door but one to the Ferrari dealership so not far to go if you need a new car.
Review 34:Got back one night at 11.15, expecting a nightcap, had to ring to get in . Bar unfortunately already closed. Took 20mins. Noisy part of the high st, so a lot of hustle/bustle if youre looking for a lay-in.
Review 35:Bed a little too soft. Breakfast a bit greasy (but very cheap so can't really complain). Pub band good but not so great when we wanted an early'ish night and our room was on the 1st floor.
Review 36:Good location in great little village that has some good restaurants, pubs with garden bars, close to New Forest for cycling etc. Parking at back of hotel was great/safe. Overall a very good stay.
Review 37:The very dissappointing breakfast was gresy and poor quality. The young waitress was doing her best but didn't seem well trained in the art of delivering the whole event efficiently + she often left the room to deal with departing guests.
Review 38:quiet & spacious bedroom & friendly staff
Review 39:Our room( R1) was situated at the front on the main road and was very noisy with traffic especially throughout the night. Management were aware of this but as the hotel is a listed building, difficult to obtain permission to install secondary/double glazing .Rooms towards rear of hotel are more noise proof.
Review 40:Good location in town and it had its own free Car Park. Room was spacious, clean and with a very powerful shower. Breakfast was freshly cooked and served with a smile. Staff were pleasant and helpful.
Review 41:If you had small children, live music till 11 pm Fri/Sat may not be too good. Single room a bit small.
Review 42:Free parking behind Hotel. Location on Lyndhurst High Street. Central location for New Forest area. Double room excellent.
Review 43:Hotel pre authorised the full amount of the booking on my credit card two days before our visit. Having paid directly to the hotel on departure with the same credit card the pre authorised amount remained for a further 5 days thus effectively reducing the amount of credit available on my credit card.
Review 44:Location, varied well cooked menu.
Review 45:Little surprised how busy the High Street was throughout the night.
Review 46:Nice people excellent room with comfortable bed and superb towels. Good food parking good.
Review 47:Beds were not the most comfy. Food in the restaurant was average. One of the evenings we had steak & it was shocking!
Review 48:Staff were helpful & friendly. Rooms were spacious. Location, nice.
Review 49:Quite a lot of traffic noise at night if you are looking for a quiet break but did not spoil our enjoyment.
Review 50:Room was 'superior' and certainly large and well appointed for the money. Good food in the bar and convenient for the rest of the village and to walk onto the Forest. The car can stay in the car park for the weekend!
Review 51:Nicky and Brian head up a great team of very friendly and helpful staff. Couldn't fault The Stag for cleanliness - one of the cleanest rooms we've ever had. Lovely breakfast - good meal in the restaurant - had a really great stay - would definitely love to visit again.
Review 52:Wi-fi was intermittent
Review 53:A good breakfast, clean and comfortable room, secure car parking, helpful and friendly staff, central location for the forest, good value, would stay here again.
Review 54:The evening menue needs up dating if it had more choice we would eaten there more often
Review 55:We have stayed here before very good location for shopping Southampton Bournmouth Winchester and of course The New Forest
Review 56:I was not happy that my second night seemed to have been taken by another BARBER?? So I had to return home after a 60 mile race in the New Forest. A second night bed, breakfast and a shower was all I needed. My first moan is that even though I had to leave early, a continental breakfast was not available. Good job I came with a Poridge pot.!! I traveled along and was told you only have one single room and yet a runner friend on mine managed to book just a few days prior to arrival?? So I ended up paying for a Double room. I am on a state pension so this is not good for me.NOT HAPPY
Review 57:A bed for one night--should have been a second night but ?????
Review 58:What not to like! The whole package was great, fantastic facilities lovely location and really good food. All of the staff were helpful and very attentive, we will be going back enjoyed the weekend very much.
Review 59:It would be great to state the postcode needed for the car park as the postcode stated is for the pub which is on the high street. You then have to go around a very busy one way system, wasting half an hour of staying in the lovely town.
Review 60:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was a great size and ideal facilities. The stag pub was lovely and the food was delicious.
Review 61:Our only quibble was that the mattresses on all of the beds were too soft; we all prefer a firmer mattress and pillows. Would still stay again though! :)
Review 62:Very, very clean. Good facilities in rooms; very spacious. Excellent location and a good sized free car park.
Review 63:Room was on 2nd floor, so lots of stairs to carry bags. Single glazed windows were noisy but only during peak traffic times.
Review 64:The room was lovely and exactly what was expected. The food was very good, there even a childrens menu. Great to have a car park too.
Review 65:The family suite was perfect. The beds were very comfy and the breakfast was excellent. They catered for adults and children. Very homely, very welcoming which is rare when u have 3 young children.
Review 66:it was all a great experience nothing bad to say .
Review 67:The beds were soft and comfy, needed a quick valentines getaway and the staff were lovely. All in all a lovely slice of heaven away from the hustle and bustle of draining unromantic city life. Thank you to the wonderful staff at the Stag
Review 68:Good location, had a lovely meal in the evening, and good breakfast. The meals were cheaper than other eating places in Lyndhurst, will stay again when we go to this area.
Review 69:Really friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfast and lovelyhot buffet on New Years Eve. Quiet room and good sized bathroom. Would definitely stay again.
Review 70:The central heating in the room did not work - there was an electric heater! The room was considerably overpriced.
Review 71:We enjoyed our stay in a convivial atmosphere.
Review 72:Report says that the hotel had been recently renovated, the bedroom might have had a lick of paint, but the bathroom was old and tired, and the radiator in there didn't work I also asked for a room away from the main road and was allotted one right in the middle of the hotel on the main road
Review 73:Staff were friendly and helpful, The breakfast was good, but a bit hap-hazard .
Review 74:The bathroom was a little small and in need of slight attention compared to the room itself. also the room suffered from traffic noise but then again we had a front room on the main road through Lyndhurst so noise is to be expected.
Review 75:The hotel had an excellent location in the center of Lyndhurst, All the staff were very friendly without being over the top the food in the bar for diner was excellent and good value for money and the breakfast was made to order and as requested. The atmosphere in the bar in the evening was warm and inviting. The room was spacious and well furnished with a lovely big comfy bed. Very pleased with the hotel and would definitely stay there again.
Review 76:Unfortunately when we walked into the en-suite bathroom there was a large puddle of water next to the bath. Luckily wr spotted it before our young son went in or he could have slipped. We dried it with a large towel & there seemed to be no leak as the next morning the same area was dry.
Review 77:The owner & staff were lovely. Very welcoming & helpful. The room we stayed in had great character. It was at the top of quite a number of stairs but it was worth the climb.
Review 78:The rain...
Review 79:The staff were really helpful and pleasant. All the staff seemed happy to be working there which transfers into the service they give the customer.
Review 80:Bathroom fittings could do with an update
Review 81:The staff were great very welcoming and helpful, food was lovely and the room delightful, the pub itself was so comfortable and homley
Review 82:nice greeting on arrival, friendly staff (think they were the owners/managers), shown to our room. Nice comfortable room and bathroom. Shown how to operate lock on outer door. Good cooked breakfast, served very quickly. Only there one night, but had a nice stay, and would go there again. Recommended.
Review 83:Matress protector could have been cleaned, had a smell to it which was coming through the sheet.
Review 84:Room was clean staff friendly food good in the town and close to the forest
Review 85:Quality of the lager(I tried two different brands) was very poor. Although I am not a big drinker I do enjoy a nice cold pint. I did return my first drink but the replacement was little better, I switched brands still no joy ,in the end I had a stout.
Review 86:Good location, friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere. Large room, with good en suite.
Review 87:English breakfast was good although if you didn't want that there wasn't much else to choose from. And decor of the stag was abit dated, so could do with an uplift .
Review 88:Rooms very good value comfy and clean . Food excellant , hotel and location good.
Review 89:Few too many stairs, but can't be helped!
Review 90:Location was brilliant, right in the middle of Lyndhurst. Secure, free parking. Staff were very friendly and efficient. a great pub with good rooms at a good price.
Review 91:Bed was uncomfortable, needed to use the phone to ring NZ urgently, was told not possible as had toll bar on it to prevent staff from using it. In morning they apologised and said they could remove the toll bar! Should have been done the night before as we were heading off to next destination. Stressful stay. Management were preoccupied on other issues and failed to attend to their customers needs. Overpriced for what we experienced.
Review 92:Building and town pub was located in.
Review 93:Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was very spacious and clean. There is some traffic noise but you would expect this from being on the High Street. Ate evening meal in hotel which was lovely and excellent value for money, Breakfasts were good and served very quickly (missed baked beans !). Would certainly recommend the Stag Hotel
Review 94:Quite dated...could have had a lick of paint everywhere...gave partner wrong beer with order and had to have alternative main course but charged us price for first order which was more expensive...we should have checked bill before we left ! Live music on Friday evening was awful...an elderly couple playing the saxaphone !!!
Review 95:Lovely room....very clean....large room with good TV...garden and car park....on main High Strret so good location
Review 96:Bedroom somewhat cramped with little space for wardrobe etc but generally adequate for our short stay
Review 97:Well located for access to all parts of The New Forest. Nice Pub/Hotel with excellent beer garden and good service. Superb full English breakfast
Review 98:Bed was way too soft for my liking. Pub had a delivery of kegs delivered at 5am right under our window. Woke us up and kept us awake for half an hour.
Review 99:Nice staff. Good food.
Review 100:No lift..................... Car park easily missed if you are not sure of its location.
Review 101:Helpful friendly staff. Nothing too much trouble. Good breakfast and dinner at the Hotel was really good too
Review 102:Room a little small Only one channel on TV
Review 103:Ideal location for Southampton Boat Show and accessing New Forest Excellent value for money Courteous and helpful staff
Review 104:Traffic noise at night could be a problem if you like windows open.
Review 105:Good meals, relaxed atmosphere, very pleasant breakfast waitress & the owner was friendly & chatty.
Review 106:Booked a table for dinner however it was first come first served and ended up eating at a "high" table not very comfortable. However, food was excellent.
Review 107:The Stag is in a central location. Very clean and the staff and owners work hard to be helpful and accommodating. Thank you Nic and Brian.
Review 108:very cramped stairway and corridors all floors really creaky and noisy.
Review 109:Good quality evening meal and excellent breakfast. Staff very friendly and helpful
Review 110:Not a wide choice for breakfast. Cereals or cooked, no fruit. The owners were obviously new as they were very disorganised.
Review 111:Convenient for getting around New Forest.
Review 112:charming village liked the theme of the hotel very clean freindly staff nice breakfast. nice size room had a lovely time in a beautiful hampshire county.
Review 113:Nothing to complain about.
Review 114:The welcome; friendliness of all staff; the cleanliness and comfort of the hotel and the bedroom; great menu and the fabulous Steak and Ale Pie! One of the best pies I've ever had! Central location for Lyndhurst
Review 115:A long climb to the bedroom No early warning about how to access the car park
Review 116:Excellent service at breakfast Central location for New Forest and coast.
Review 117:When we arrived they showed us to a family room which was all they had when I booked, the sofa bed was made up and the manager said he would get that folded down as we didn't need it. I unpacked and we went down to the bar for a drink and just as our drinks arrived the managers wife came and said her husband had put us in the wrong room as she had changed us to a double because someone needed a family room. She asked us to move rooms, I said I would but had already unpacked and she said they needed the room fairly quickly, she offered to help me pack but I didn't want that really, so I had to go and pack everything up and then unpack again in the next room. The room was a nicer room but it was a bit annoying and we weren't even offered a free drink for the inconvenience. Also when I checked out I didn't have my glasses with me so I asked the waitress who did the bill to check there was only the room and 3 drinks on it, she said yes that was right but when we got home there were an extra 3 drinks on the bill that weren't ours so we paid £10 more than we should have. We did enjoy our weekend but these things were a bit annoying and a little attention to detail could have prevented them happening.
Review 118:Room was very nice, young man behind the bar was very pleasant and friendly. Good food selection although my steak & ale pie was quite overcooked but all the other food was very nice so I think it was a one off. Location was good, right in the centre of Lyndhurst but the car park was at the back so we had to go into the hotel only to be told we had to queue in all the traffic again and go round the one way system and turn off into a road we had already driven past whilst in a long queue, it would have been good if they told you this when you booked,it would have saved us about 20 mins in a traffic jam!
Review 119:Our first nights meal could have been better but second nights was good, so it depends what you choose.
Review 120:Central location and character. Welcoming landlady. Parking at rear. Good breakfast.
Review 121:Staff were excellent and friendly, owners Brian and Nicola couldn't do enough for us, great breakfasts and dinners in the pub. Clean spacious rooms, have already recommended to friends.
Review 122:the room could have been a little bit cleaner, it was a bit dusty
Review 123:the staff & owner were very pleasant and made us feel very welcome, the food was excellent & value for money I would & have recommended friends
Review 124:The check in, check out pricrss was good especially check in. Staff were very helpful and polite. The manage who checked me in was a great and sociable person.
Review 125:Whereas the room was dated, the bed was comfortable but the walls in the Bathroom need a good clean.
Review 126:The evening meal was excellent. Location really good
Review 127:Bedroom was very small with little room to move around the bed. Hotel had a very dated look and feel, dark Stairs to the room were very narrow general smell of the bar and strong smell of cleaning liquids. Staff were pleasant but not very well trained.
Review 128:The bed was comfortable and clean Bathroom was OK and clean
Review 129:Room faced the high st so was a little noisy, but nothing intrusive
Review 130:Owners were very friendly, location is brilliant, breakfast great, large room with all amenities, free car parking
Review 131:We arrived at the front of The Stag and found that we had to turn round and drive round the busy Lyndhurst one way system in order to park. Be aware that if you're coming from the M27 down the A337 to Lyndhurst, you need to turn left just before the traffic lights to access The Stag car park.
Review 132:A bit unfair to comment about anything people in charge only been in a few weeks but the room we where in needed brightening up
Review 133:The breakfast and evening meals very good staff very friendly
