Reviews for Bartley Lodge Hotel

Review 1:the swimming pool changing rooms were revolting and clearly hadn't been looked at by any staff for some days. delivered laundry was piled up against doors and dirty towels strewn across the floor. very small bar facility not very comfortable. a good looking menu but a very poor (and amusing) interpretation of the chef's ambitious descriptions. after dinner on the first night we did not eat there again, even skipping breakfast. our room ran out of toilet paper and shampoo/bath gel; surely the easiest thing to get right when preparing a room! double beds were actually 2 singles pushed together so the chasm between us and the single duvets were a novelty. at least we enjoyed the brochure claims of four star facilities at three star prices - half right.

Review 2:nice rooms and location tucked away in the woods, but easy walk to pubs of Cadnam. All staff helpful and pleasant but some out of their depth.

Review 3:Restaurant staff were poor food was ok, we are a young family and we found a sex toy in the room!!!! Thankfully I found it and disposed of it before the kids found it!! Please take better care when cleaning the rooms

Review 4:Location was great for what we needed

Review 5:Excellent atmosphere, with such helpful staff, particularly in the dining room. The breakfast supervisor was so understanding over food allergens. The setting was great - felt like a country house with fires in the grates.

Review 6:The room had a constant noise rather like a chair being dragged I reported it and I was told it was eco friendly system and they would look.It was better subsequent nights

Review 7:it is too far from Southampton, Breakfast was not a continental and not much choices! There is no vegetarian breakfast at all.

Review 8:it is good for a holiday far from everything, as it is among the forest.

Review 9:The same Adele album played endlessly throughout the weekend; it grew a bit tiresome.

Review 10:A comfortable hotel in a lovely forest setting. The Food was good.

Review 11:My daughter enjoyed the swiming pool. I love the garden and the view .

Review 12:I made this booking last minutes . I was travelling with my five years old daughter and couldn't find any hotel on the area and manage to book this hotel . I was so pleased

Review 13:No lift to our allocated room floor: no baggage carriers. Lounge inadequate in size and part of public thoroughfare.

Review 14:Room comfortable: lighting poor in bedroom. Friendliness of the staff. Lack of an adequate lounge.

Review 15:My single room was very small and the shower took a long time to heat up but I could live with these issues

Review 16:I was attending a wedding however due to my poor administration I asked the receptionist for assistance she helped me locate a wedding card iron and somewhere to change prior to my room being ready THANKYOU

Review 17:It did feel at time that there wasn't an overall person in charge so a few little things around the hotel slipped we also had a group with young children running round the restaurant when we were having our evening meal which wasn't quite the atmosphere we were looking for

Review 18:The staff went the extra mile for my mums birthday and really made us feel welcome the gardens are lovely too a really nice place to spend the afternoon drinking wine on the terrace

Review 19:The bed, the noise it made every time you moved, I was awake most of the night. So bloody creaky and old. The headboard too.

Review 20:The staff, so friendly and helpful. The receptionist was a little 'much' though. But all the staff were lovely.

Review 21:The staffs lack of knowledge regarding the wine list, The bar had no brandy and one measure of Jamesons! The loo and shower were poor in the way they functioned. Some of the staff were inappropriate with guests. The Hotel was tired looking and the evening meal tried to be fine dining and failed!

Review 22:Breakfast

Review 23:The rooms were ok, very cosy but very warm! And the fan didn't really cool it down or do much. This didn't ruin our stay, and we understood that there was probably a reason for no air con because it is a listed building.

Review 24:The location was amazing, so beautiful. The food was delicious. The bar staff were quick and friendly. There were many different places to sit. The outdoors seating was great. Loved that you welcomed dogs, didn't bring this time but good to know for the future. Would definitely come back!

Review 25:Tiny bedroom (No 1) much too small to have a double bed. Lunchtime sandwiches awful, only tried them once. A few minor niggles, like TV handset in Room 41 not working properly, tea in rooms not replenished by chambermaids, had to ask twice to get some more. Twice, requests at reception for dinner reservation not passed on to dining room. Didn't see much of the 8 acres of grounds that the hotel claims to have, mostly seemed to have been taken up by car parks. A bit of landscaping there would have helped.

Review 26:Nice building, lovely location, very friendly staff, lovely indoor pool, comfortable and very elegant sitting room, very good dinners, on the whole good value.

Review 27:The cooked breakfast was poor for the money it cost. One breakfast was missing so had to wait and then alone and then the mushrooms were missing. Sausages were not very well cooked.

Review 28:Family was very good, and kids loved the swimming pool.

Review 29:Dinner finnishes at 8.30 pm no good after a long drive. Screaming kids running wild everywhere. Room was not as described no wardrobe just a small junk cupboared in the eves with a few coat hangers in and a very small window overlooking airconditioning units

Review 30:Staff are friendly and they need to be as the organistion is terrable

Review 31:The wedding being hosted in the venue on the Friday and Saturday. Load music and noise from the bar until midnight. I was unable to have full use of the patio and bar.

Review 32:Lovely building and surrounding area.

Review 33:Bed a little squeaky. Great that they provided a fan - but it was dusty. Shower matt in the pool area could do with replacing. Couldn't get onto wifi as signal not strong enough.

Review 34:Great pool with a code to get in at any time - great way to send young children to sleep easily. Appears popular with families. The food was great. Lovely gardens, great running space for kids. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Great location for the forest and beach.

Review 35:Dining room for dinner had young staff who were a little slack. They were funny, honest and friendly that was good. Cleanliness of glasses was really poor and some cuterly. Menu needs to vary nightly. Decor in dining room also could do with a refresh. Our room was lovely, but for some reason the bathroom had a cracking the enamel.

Review 36:Lovely country manor, gardens and pool. Great location for surrounding activities e.g peppa pig world.

Review 37:The wedding celebration in progress rather dominated the hotel. The areas available for us for dining and sitting outside had poor ambiance. The dinner meal was not so good.

Review 38:A large historical Lodge hotel close to the New Forest. Free breakfast as we expressed our concerns.

Review 39:The WiFi was very bad. Even we couldn't able to use our Data. We booked 2 rooms .In my daughter's room she didn't get any signal at all.

Review 40:We stayed only 1 night. The location was super. Very nice village. We loved it. When you drive for about 30 minutes there is a nice beach. There are lots of English Pub's around . We really enjoyed the day. We will go again.

Review 41:Attended a family wedding so you would not expect the bar to run out of beer and spirits at 3pm! Next day despite not many guests at dinner several courses we ordered from small menu not available. Cash flow problems?

Review 42:Loud noise from function suite. Staff on reception were over-insistent on pre- authorisation and then debited my credit card automatically when it was supposed to just be pre-authorisaton. ( Though I HAD offered to pay in full in advance, but was told No)Also gave no receipt.

Review 43:location, building interior and gardens and grounds, pool

Review 44:Although the dining room setting was beautiful, the set evening meal selection was poor as was the quality of the food.

Review 45:The delightful communal areas/gardens and friendliness of staff

Review 46:bar service really slow all day. didnt have certain drinks.price expensive 4.90 for guinness which was awful.

Review 47:lovely hotel in good setting for wedding. food was excellent.

Review 48:No bedding or pillows were provided for my children. Waited nearly an hour for this to be resumed after bringing it to the hotel's attention at 10pm. Staff were quite unpleasant, wasn't very welcoming, seemed very under staffed & never even asked how our stay was upon check-out, miserable bunch. At £484 for a 2 night stay, I was a very unhappy customer. Would never stay here again, or recommend it to anyone either.

Review 49:Location was great, that's about it !

Review 50:The ground floor rooms could do with net curtains for privacy. The pool was more suited to children not adults. I'm glad we left on Saturday as there was a wedding that day and I was not aware of this. This meant we had to have breakfast and dinner in the darker part of the restaurant as opposed to the much lighter conservatory which was prioritised for the wedding party. At dinner we booked for the last seating at 845pm so two of the starters and 2 of the mains were not available (I suspect the wedding party had eaten them). They have 70 more weddings booked over this summer. They played the same music every day in the restaurant, it was Bob Marley reggae and some other dated weird 80s tunes. The countryside setting called for classical music or jazz, far more appropriate. Overall minor niggles after a pleasant relaxing stay and I would certainly return here.

Review 51:We were in room 41 on the ground floor with the beautiful garden view. The room was tastefully decorated and it was quiet so I had a good sleep. The shower was nice and powerful and they provided a new fan on the same day as the room fan was broken. The breakfast quality was excellent (we had the full English daily) and the manager Tom and his staff were very polite, professional and attentive. Plenty of parking space and a secluded location surrounded by fields and trees added to the quality of our stay.

Review 52:Got completely wrong directions from reception for the local pub and one bedroom was located right over the wedding reception room - we weren't attending the wedding so music was a disturbance for anyone wanting to sleep.

Review 53:Beautiful location.

Review 54:I came to Bartley lodge for my 21st birthday and on arrival staff were very friendly and polite, also little did I know my family had organised a surprise to come down and see me.. The staff were excellent at keeping it a secret and made lots of effort to make it special! The room was lovely and clean, food is delicious although a little on the experience side but there is lots of lovely pubs close by and lastly good location with lots of helpful leaflets to give you ideas of what activities/days out you can do.

Review 55:Have stayed at hotel before and had a double room. This time only a single was available. Not too bad but a little on the small side and just a little tired maybe in comparison with the double room i had the last time. But still very comfortable and more than adequate for an overnight stay.

Review 56:Lovely location, very pretty area, lovely staff, food was excellent

Review 57:Breakfast was ruined by not receiving my poached egg on time I had to leave without eating it. At the time I was the only one to be served

Review 58:Lovely cosy room - cheerful happy staff - cleanliness perfect - lovely place to stay and will stay again.

Review 59:The breakfast was ok, but nothing to write home about! (No black pudding or hash browns, which my husband was disappointed about!!) but def not a deal breaker!

Review 60:It was a lovely grade 2 listed property, friendly staff, great facilities and perfect location

Review 61:Wi Fi was fine in common areas, but v. poor in my room.

Review 62:Interior decoration is very good Terrace is great Sitting areas are good Relaxing location.

Review 63:bed was not comfy, breakfast was until 10 I arrived last at 09:45 what was left was stone cold, no one asked if I wanted tea or coffee.

Review 64:Hotel was nice. quiet location, nice gardens, staff were friendly, ample parking, good internet connection

Review 65:Everywhere looks like it needs a deep clean and a refurbishment more attention to detail from housekeeping and breakfast needs better quality food and presentation.

Review 66:The location was fab

Review 67:We had to be moved to another room after been allocated near to a room with a new born baby who started crying at 5am. The food quality differs by far from the 4 stars qualification. The staff seem to be disoriented and easily overwhelmed.

Review 68:The rooms are nice and well decorated. The hotel is in an ideal location.

Review 69:A few minor things that need attention Cleanliness of bathroom. Just needed to be cleaned a little better. Waiting staff in the restaurant just a touch better at clearing tables. Food was lovely but missing something for the price Minor touches that would have made all the difference

Review 70:Very friendly stag and lovely hotel

Review 71:Shower much to small, I had to kneel down to use it. Not relly big enough for a 6foot 4inch broad shouldered man, whos not ovberweight

Review 72:Staff friendly and helpful, buaetiful position

Review 73:The food in the crystal restaurant was very poor! I would recommend the hotel but I suggest you eat out.

Review 74:Hitel itself had a beautiful exterior and tasteful and fresh interior. Well equipt bedroom, nice size and clean bathroom.

Review 75:The room was spacious, clean, comfortable and a lovely decor. There was a large choice of food at breakfast and we were really well looked after. I attended a wedding this weekend, which was very well organized and the food was lovely.

Review 76:Although the food was nice it was very expensive, so I didn't feel it was value for money. The was also only one member of staff to take orders, be on reception and greet guests. Pool clean but very small

Review 77:WiFi was the best I'd had in a hotel, comfortable bed and free parking. Bathrooms clean and a good size.

Review 78:Booked two rooms & put on different floors. Staff on reception were average, not knowledgable of the area when asked where a chemist was or recommendations of local places to eat

Review 79:Good location, ideal having a swimming pool with Young children. Grounds well maintained.

Review 80:Paper thin walls between rooms, loud neighbours throughout the night, very poor attitude of staff when dealing with this issue, tired room furnishings, over priced (even on a discount rate) for the room provided

Review 81:Location excellent, lovely common areas with plenty of charm, good service in the restaurant

Review 82:Booked a four poster room but was given a room with two single beds. I asked to be moved and was moved to a room with a double bed (but still not a four poster).

Review 83:Large comfortable rooms and large bathrooms.

Review 84:The bed was broken, the room was not clean, lipstick marks on the glasses, carpet needed hoovering. Breakfast was sub standard. One morning the table next to us were served mouldy toast and then had an out of date yoghurt. Altogether a very unpleasant experience. Would never recommend this hotel.

Review 85:Some of the floors in the old part of the building were a bit creaky!

Review 86:Peaceful country location off the road. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Comfortable lounge areas and well equipped bedroom.

Review 87:Internet connection was hit and miss

Review 88:Location was great, quite and the room kept warm even with the window slightly open, bed was comfortable and the full English was Devine.

Review 89:Lack of quality of staff. There was a constant buzz of apologies being given to complaints from various tables each meal time. All staff pleasant but under trained and under supervised.

Review 90:Location, building, room, food

Review 91:The restaurant staff was very slow and careless, and the receptionist was nice the second day but a bit careless the first one, apparently they were stressed on Saturday because a wedding was going on. But Sunday there was not wedding and they were still very reluctant.

Review 92:Restaurant food was very nice!!

Review 93:The bedroom was nothing like pictured on the website and in need of some updates to the decor. The shower room was awful. I didnt find the stay great value, as for the cost I would fo expected breakfast to be included and better rooms. the staff were also not that helpful.

Review 94:The hotel looked very impressive from the outside and also had a lovely courtyard at the back of the property to sit outside.

Review 95:Everything was perfect, Staff were really helpful and accommodating, nice to find good customer service.
