Reviews for The Bannatyne Spa Hotel

Review 1:The room was so dark...! Not enough natural light and not enough electric ones to make up the difference. Breakfast staff over run but it wasn't busy, this tells me they are either not trained well enough or don't organise themselves well enough.

Review 2:Clean, tidy, standard stuff but lots of places fail on this.

Review 3:We didn't so much have a bad experience but having completed a client profile neither of the three therapists discussed the contents or type of facial we were having. However we all enjoyed the facials and would definitely return.

Review 4:convenience of spa to hotel; heated relaxation beds and general ambience of the spa.

Review 5:Disappointed with the quality of bread in an otherwise very good breakfast.

Review 6:Friendly, attentive and helpful staff. Beautiful room- spacious, quality furnishings.

Review 7:I would describe this hotel as 'Homebase Boutique' ! 4 star in theory but not in quality, style or atmosphere. Very cheaply decorated with a plastic laminate flooring in reception. No charm or quality.

Review 8:Very friendly staff who were very helpful.

Review 9:Window was jammed in bedroom .could not open. Room very hot.. Staff in Leisure centre needed some customer service training. Also bar staff lacked customer service and needed training. Was over charged on meal in Bar.

Review 10:Food was good. Reception staff very helpful.

Review 11:There is nothing not to like.

Review 12:We always stay here when we go to hastings. It is such a lovely warm friendly welcoming place. My wife had panckes for breakfast She would highly recommend them absolutely delicious.

Review 13:Breakfast wasn't that great, and hardly any teabags, sugar and milk and when I asked at reception they said they would get the night porter to send some to are room and didn't bother

Review 14:Big room big bed comfy and cosy feeling nice bathroom but could do with being cleaned better

Review 15:The travel cot was slightly flimsy, simply through age and use I think, although we're nevertheless grateful we were able to borrow one. I'd say the hotel is slightly pricey compared to others we have stayed at.

Review 16:The staff were great with our young daughter, very patient and helpful. Room was very large, which was great as it allowed her to play and run around. Restaurant was very nice, especially in daylight when the views were unexpected having eaten there in the dark the night before! Lots of plug sockets in the room was good - it sounds a small thing, but so many hotel rooms expect you to cope with just one plug socket, often in an awkward location.

Review 17:Service at breakfast could have been a little more efficient.

Review 18:The staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was hearty, it's been a while since I couldn't finish one. The hotel and spa facilities were excellent and the staff friendly and engaging. Loved the out door hot tubs!!

Review 19:room was a bit too hot at night time

Review 20:lovely room and bathroom, but as I have slight difficulty with walking would have liked to have had something to hold onto in shower. breakfasts excellent

Review 21:Room was cold on arrival, air conditioning had been left on and no instructions for use but sorted quickly by duty manager and compensation offered.

Review 22:location suited our purpose, great shower, good food especially breakfast served hot and quickly

Review 23:Bathroom layout was for a disabled or elderly person, no real shower base or long enough shower curtain which caused the water to splash onto the floor.

Review 24:Ground floor room

Review 25:The staff at the Spa didn't have enough people on the front desk and seemed confused when I asked them to put the cost of the massage treatment on my hotel bill. The facilities of the spa and leisure centre could have been better.

Review 26:Very friendly hotel staff and the breakfasts were good.

Review 27:I arrived at 3:10 to check in and was told the room needed to be checked whether or not it was ready we was sent to the waiting room where it we was tacky, the ceiling was pealing the walls were stained and parts of the room was coming off. We waiting 45 minutes before I got annoyed and asked my partner to go ask to see the room situation as we had a young child whom was getting impatience to be told the room was ready, if we didn't go and ask we would have been sitting there for god knows how long!! That really annoyed me, got to the room and it was nice however got to the bathroom from far it looked very nice but when U go close up there was stains on the ceiling and bathtub had chipping coming off from where the water comes out the wall and edges of the bathroom generally needs tended too! Overall it was ok, i didn't really get the nice warm feeling from this hotel and staff hence I said staff were ok and rooms were nice but not the greatest. I've stayed at 4 star hotels where service and rooms were excellent! I did expect it from this hotel but obviously didn't get it, what a shame! Over priced is to say the least they also try charge u for additional thing which I thought was ridicules. The complimentary tea and coffee had no milk available which was annoying! Quite far off from main town center Hastings. Would not come back here again. I kick myself for not taking pictures of the bad parts!'

Review 28:Nice building, staff were ok. Decor in bedroom is nice. Parking is always a thumbs up!

Review 29:Athough I request for early checking we had to wait 2 hours. I'd book executive room but was not exactly what I expected. The room was could, radiator was not working, I wanted to make coffee the milk was off. I was very disappointed

Review 30:Good location, Nice food, quiet

Review 31:We were generally happy, so if anything mentioned it did not spoil the enjoyment of the break. More information about how breakfast runs The garden around the outdoor jacuzzi area needs a little more attention Better wifi in the rooms Change of cakes on afternoon tea - less heavy- perhaps a macaroon, as an example. Having said that an enjoyable break.

Review 32:Staff were great, especially the bar man who is particularly friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable, the spa and facilities were enjoyable and relaxing. The grounds were well maintained. Bottle of water in the room and good food, the scones - best I've tasted in a long while, echoed by my friend. Really comfortable bed.

Review 33:the spa was booked out !!!!

Review 34:as we were senior guests the reception staff were most helpful with the Sat Nav in car ( our holiday would have been ruined if this was not sorted )

Review 35:The restaurant food was not hot enough, the menu descriptions were misleading, i.e. my crab and avocado starter was described as having a lemon/citrus mayonnaise which in fact was a few minuscule droplets around the edge of the plate. there was not enough to even establish its flavour. Also the meat ( 3 x duck and 1 chicken) were all dry and chewy as if it was pre-cooked. Overall it was very disappointing. Did not complain as it was our sons wedding eve and I didn't want to upset the Bride.

Review 36:All the hotel staff were attentive, helpful, caring and efficient. The room and linens were excellent, lacking only a dressing table with a drawer.

Review 37:Checking out at 11am. Would be better to check out at noon. Flags at front of property faded and shredded - need replacing. No bathrobes in room.

Review 38:Beautiful grounds. Friendly staff. Good breakfast.

Review 39:Check in was less than welcoming. Scrimping on bathroom toiletries does not create a good impression. A more impersonal hotel than nearby Powdermills.

Review 40:Excellent dinner and access to top class spa facilities. Walked in very pleasant garden.

Review 41:The room was smelly - bit like wee (No7) The bed extremely soft The room is badly lit - you can't see what your doing with the certain drawn - you need to draw it in order to get dressed The fan in the bathroom was very noisy and stayed on for ages after using it.

Review 42:gym was very good Food and restaurant service was excellent

Review 43:I was fortunate to have one morning breakfast served straight from the kitchen. It was fresh and hot. The other mornings breakfast was from a hot buffet. I am not a fan of hot buffets, food was too cool. Other than that breakfast was great. Love the muesli and freshly squeezed orange juice.

Review 44:Unfortunately I did not get time to use the health centre. Next time I promise. Room was comfortable and I slept very well, which is normally hard for me to do. I ate in the bar and food was really good. Again I did not have time to eat in the main restaurant for dinner, but he menus looked superb. Great wifi throughout the hotel.

Review 45:being woken up by fire alarm caused by steam escaping from someone else's shower. Marks on bedding and bed trim gave the establishment a bad report

Review 46:the whole ambiance was excellent

Review 47:Very hard to find, post code on web not right, had to ring for proper post code.lost for a long time. Restaurant menu not very much to choose from.

Review 48:Location

Review 49:The menu is very limited & never changes. The tables and bar were sticky perhaps coasters could be provided with drinks. Apart from the restaurant manager the staff seemed more interested in their own pursuits than attending to guests.

Review 50:The location, gardens & rooms are good but the decoration is tired and needs attention.

Review 51:Wasn't worth the price, bed was awful could feel spring when rubbed your hand over the duvet! Pool was dark and small, staff weren't helpful when arrived at spa. Just asked if from hotel, didn't go through detail or directions. Looked lost so a staff member further in asked if ok.

Review 52:I asked for a deluxe double room and we go two single beds stuck together making it extremely difficult I get a cuddle! Especially as we were escaping a horrible holiday at pontins camber sands

Review 53:Staff were fantastic! Very friendly and accommodating

Review 54:The room was lovely and had a nice view of th garden. Comfy bed and spotlessly clean bathroom. We stayed on the night of our wedding and they had left added extras (flowers, wine and strawberries dipped in chocolate). Staff all very friendly and attentive at reception and for breakfast service. We ate breakfast in the garden which was lovely on a sunny morning. Also used the spa facilities next door and enjoyed sitting in th outdoor hottubs.

Review 55:usually there are bath robes in the room but you had to get them from the spa which could be inconvenient if you are not going there.now has a buffet breakfast which is quicker but slightly loses the personal touch.

Review 56:everything!this is our 4th visit & best so far as this time we stayed at the back & had lovely views over the garden & the room was great.fab bed & shower.if you want to book a treatment book as early as possible to get the time you want.we had room 21.

Review 57:Aaa) The air conditioning was not working. Bbb) The carpets in thealleyway and in our room were well beyond their sell by date.CCC) The meat we were served in the restaurant was so tough it was like a big lump of rubber and therefore in my opinion inedible. DDD) A VW beetle was parked in a disabled bay, with no blue badge displayed, on one evening and was there still when we left the next morning. Hence all disabled bays were occupied. If staff policed this the owner could have be contacted and told to move or in the time that the vehicle was there a blue card could have been displayed if he/she had forgotten to display one when it was parked. Then we would have known it was parked legally. EEE) There was no extractor fan in the bathroom. Needed for obvious reasons!

Review 58:Aaa) The hotel and its grounds were fabulous. The gardens were anabsolute picture. Bbb) The attitude of the staff was impeccable withoutexception.CCC) Because the meat was so tough we were offered and accepted free desserts.

Review 59:This is miss advertised as a spa hotel. No IT IS NOT its a hotel that sends clients to a nearby sports club. which most of the spa items unavailable or not working

Review 60:Hotel was fine

Review 61:We had a lovely TV but we rented a film to watch but couldn't watch this as the DVD player didn't work and the safe didn't either. We reported this to reception after the first night and said that we were out all day but nothing was done about it witch was a real shame.

Review 62:The room that we stayed in was lovely and clean. The bathroom and shower facilities were lovely too.

Review 63:Had to ask for all the basics! Had to ask to get tables cleared at breakfast so we could sit down on 3 of our 4 day stay. Cleanliness in communial areas lacking, drink spillage on seats and filfy chandeliers above bar. Had to ask for toilet rolls? Generally a real lack of attention to detail for a 4 star hotel- staff appear to be lacking leadership. Manager saw us every day and never once even said good morning, even sat having breakfast while tables around him remained uncleared. Lack of leadership rubs off on staff.

Review 64:The room was excellent and the reception staff very helpful and would attend to any item raised promptly

Review 65:Light over mirror in bathroom not working. Really hard to put yr make up on in bad light especially if you wear glasses. Restaurant ok not as good as I expected. Bar a bit garish but lovely staff. Breakfast ok but coffee vile!! Expensive night and not exceptional.

Review 66:Staff were great. Gardens were beautiful. Spa looked good too. Didn't use it as arrived late due to delays at the tunnel. Bar terrace lovely too.

Review 67:Staff are all very young and seemingly untrained. We had to ask for everything! Although the staff were willing, the level of service was poor. No warm plates at breakfast, no butter, no marmalade. Our bottle of wine was just plonked on our table at dinner. Air con was broken. Decor was tired. No towels in the room. We paid for a 4 star hotel but it certainly didn't seem like it.

Review 68:The food was excellent. We ate dinner and everyone had a lovely meal. Breakfast was very good, although very hot in the conservatory as the fan was broken.

Review 69:the cleanliness of the rooms was not up to standard and we had to ask for the bath to be cleaned before it could be used. Not much choice on menu for vegetarians. Definitely not worth the money.

Review 70:The staff were friendly and the breakfast was great

Review 71:Dead flies in conservatory (breakfast room) but was very early on a Monday morning.

Review 72:Beautiful setting. Very peaceful. Spa situated a short walk away from hotel, so hotel undisturbed.

Review 73:Maintenance was poor especially in the health club. Showers were broken and doors didn't shut. Check that the spa isn't booked out before you arrive. I didn't. Food was not great. I havent sent food back in a restaurant for a long time and I had to do it twice in two days.

Review 74:Helpful staff

Review 75:Understandably there were times when children were not permitted to use pool, unfortunately this meant we did not get to use the spa facilities included in out stay which is a little disappointing.

Review 76:Great service, location, food and staff.

Review 77:Bed too small for me at 6'3". Otherwise good.

Review 78:Grounds quiet, spacious and pleasant to amble through. Staff great. Breakfast plenty, excellent variety. Parking free and easy. Hotel peaceful, clean, comfortable and spacious. TV all channels easily operated.

Review 79:No robe available in our room to use in the spa and there were no towels in the bathroom when we arrived The staff seem over worked, it looks like they are short staffed

Review 80:A cold and clinical look to the public areas. Air conditioning made it feel cold too. Whilst dinner was very good, breakfast was just the opposite. Buffet style continental selection looked like it had been set out for a long time without any attention to topping up, covering food and the selection was limited. Hot breakfast was ok but nothing to praise.

Review 81:Easily acessible for Battle and Hastings

Review 82:the staff were very friendly and helpfull especially amber the reception manager who helped me to pay my toll charges on line i emply hundreds off people also own a proffesinal football club she is a good asset to your company hang on to her she is a diamond

Review 83:felt very sorry for staff, clearly not enough. although they did an excellent job a few more would have had them smiling. come on one barman for 120 guests? wedding menu was bbq, cooked at 2pm and kept warm till 4pm ugh. At breakfast we saw the food come from the kitchen put into the warmers which were then lit, therefore when we did help ourselves the food was barely warm. Not impressed with catering at all.

Review 84:excellent venue for a wedding with beautiful grounds. Room was fine with every requirement.

Review 85:For a 4 star hotel the breakfasts cold section is lacking and should you wish to sleep in until the last half hour the choice will be very limited. Lunch & dinner menu although very tasty are virtually the same and needs to have more variety. The menu did not change during our 3 night stay.

Review 86:The bedroom was very spacious with a very comfortable bed & well equipped bathroom. spotlessly clean too. The staff are a credit to the management and fulfill the hotels mission statement - well done.

Review 87:No towels Bar staff bad attitude and inept Lighting in bedro dire far too dark to read Grounds in need of a good gardener

Review 88:Sunday breakfast staff much better than day before

Review 89:Walked into the room and there was no bed, they then quickly hurried to get the room sorted however there were still issues, bed sheets left in the room, the bottom sheet had brown marks (looked like makeup) and the bed would look nicer with a sheet over the bottom of the bed. Overall I do not think our room was worth the money at all.

Review 90:The hotel is in a great location, set it beautiful grounds. We had lunch in the bar and the food was great. The staff are also lovely, even with a wedding there on the day we stayed they still had plenty of staff who still focused on the non wedding guests.

Review 91:Nothing

Review 92:Staff was very attentive and helpful. Food was great quality. The spa was amazing! Kids love the hotel still saying they want to go back. Will definitely be going back.

Review 93:As previously stated, cold undercooked food, cracked cup at breakfast, food taken away before i had finished Room dirty & in need of redecoration.

Review 94:We arrived late to a staff member put in the positions of checking us in without knowing what to do. The bed springs were evident - I requested a second duvet to pad them out a bit. The door on the newly fitted bathroom had the hand grubbiness of many previous guests. The cables powering the wall mounted TV were hanging needlessly down the wall. Drinks in the bar were unpleasant - it is an overly corporate looking space, with harsh lighting and no ambient music to set any sort of tone. Beer choices woeful - everything on a gassy tap. Breakfast was a shambles - we waited an hour at least to be served in an overheated conservatory with pools of melted butter on most tables. The coffee was lukewarm. When breakfast did finally arrive (after asking to speak to management, who never spoke to us), there was evidence of it sitting under a lamp for a considerable time. The young (and very nice) waitresses were put in the awful position of apologising when a manager would have been more appropriate, as I had to go to the front desk to ask about breakfast. A feel of care and hospitality was clearly lacking - We had no sense of welcome, luxury, attention to detail, or relaxation. Never again.

Review 95:We had no complaints, we enjoyed the whole experience even down to the lovely fluffy towels!

Review 96:Loved the facilities & use of the whole area the sevice was excellent. We loved it all

Review 97:bird poo on outside tables, some outside areas rather neglected. however general appearance good

Review 98:lovely rooms, comfortable beds, great building and garden chairs.

Review 99:All in all the stay was good, the only thing that spoiled it was the breakfast in the morning , the staff was rushing around not really knowing what was going on and I had to wait a long time for my breakfast even though the hotel wasn't at it fullest capacity .

Review 100:The room had just been refurbished and it was really nicely done with a great bed so I had a good nights sleep

Review 101:Breakfast was a bit of a disappointing Experience as very slow and pastries not replenished quickly.

Review 102:Beautiful surroundings. Excellent staff. Very warm and friendly. Comfortable bedroom. Health club very good.

Review 103:lack of light in room just 2 small lamps fixed by bed so no light for the better half to do her make up in front of the mirror

Review 104:The view out the window, friendly staff

Review 105:Venue excellent for business meetings. I loved the big park and paths in the forest. I didn't get a chance to try the spa, it's on the list for my next visit. Food was amazing, especially the dinner menu.

Review 106:Window didn't latch open, light shining through in the room all night. Wifi was on 1 bar if I was lucky. £15 meal was small and very average. Bar was stiff. Toilet didn't flush, bath didn't drain and there was a loud noise at 7:40 in the morning that sounded like drilling but probably just the extractor fan from next door that takes a good 40min to turn off after the bathroom light gets turned off.

Review 107:Breakfast was good, staff friendly & hot tub great!

Review 108:The only irritation was the spa who were less than helpful in providing towels. Hotel reception were not to blame as they were not aware that we were going to use the pool.

Review 109:Friendly and polite staff. Bedrooms tastefully appointed.

Review 110:Except-if you are new in the place nobody gives you itroduction to the gym and spa. What?where? I was lost had to ask the Staff but they were to busy to help. No treatment list ffor the spa.

Review 111:Almost everything was super

Review 112:An annoying line down the TV which affected all station. Additional extras if you wanted a different breakfast!

Review 113:Great weekend break with lots to see and do near by.

Review 114:The bed was two doubles pushed together. No net on tennis court. Not great value for money when adding on the cost of dinner too

Review 115:The staff couldn't do enough to help. Nice decor. Enjoyed the spa

Review 116:- amazing room (double room) - very clean - great perk to have access to bannatyne health club, great gym -lots of parking - very friendly staff, especially the receptionist

Review 117:I did not like that they phone up to ask if i wanted to book dinner but did not tell me i had to book the spa. so when i went to go have a spa treatment was told it was full so could not have one

Review 118:I like everythink in the room and in the hotel

Review 119:A horrible, persistent ringing noise could be heard in our room all night. We called the front desk 3 or 4 times to report this and each time they sent someone to confirm the noise and never did anything about it. Each time they promised to try something new to turn off the noise but it never stopped. Eventually we gave up and went to bed with pillows over our ears.

Review 120:The info in the hotel room book clearly stated a £3 charge to bring breakfast up to the room but we were charged £3.50. So the info in the book needs to be changed.

Review 121:Gym is only 5 mins walk away. Perfect for gym fanatics.Room was very beautiful & comfy.

Review 122:Whilst the bathroom was good the water flow from the outlet pipes in the sink and shower was poor, i.e. I was standing in waste water whilst having a shower. Which is a shame since the refurbished rooms are in good condition.

Review 123:Location was right for our needs

Review 124:The spa facilities and changing rooms could definatly be cleaner. Also the sauna, hot tubs and steam rooms are a little small so had to queue.

Review 125:Receptionist was lovely, bed was perfectly comfy the room was silent even though our room was next to a lift which was great. The food was SPECTACULAR!!

Review 126:Attended a wedding reception which was fabulous, staff attentive especially Steph the supervisor at breakfast, her team were warm, professional and food was fabulous

Review 127:The bed was two singles pushed together which is never comfortable

Review 128:The food in the restaurant is a highlight. Very good quality and not ridiculous prices or stupidly small portions.

Review 129:No seriously bad experiences, but given this was a quiet , Valentine's weekend stay, we could have done without the large, noisy hen party next to whom we were originally seated at dinner. However, the staff were helpful and happy to move us when asked. Breakfast ended at 9.30am, which in my option, is at least an hour too early for people enjoying a break away from home. The TV in the room was fairly old (pre-HD) and would not accept an HDTV adapter to allow us to watch content from a tablet.

Review 130:The location - close to Battle and the Battle of Hastings museum and site. Attractive, substantial grounds. Generous sized room Excellent restaurant. Helpful staff Well-equipped, modern pool and spa Fast Wi Fi

Review 131:Wifi was a bit off and on. Everything else was great!

Review 132:Very helpful staff. Nice room. Beautiful gardens. Food was good although expensive (that's Valentines for ya).

Review 133:Only the WiFi

Review 134:We cannot fault the welcome, use off all facilities and comfort of the room. The breakfast was delicious and checkout at 11am is far more suitable for people. Only thing we didnt get was free WiFi as signal bad

Review 135:I had been looking forward to staying in more then just a basic room so upgraded to a Queensize room only for the shower to be faulty and then be moved to a smaller room. We were charged the rate of the smaller room and apologised to.

Review 136:Staff were very friendly and the breakfast selection was great

Review 137:Having to walk through the car park in a gown when it was wet and windy to get to and from pool, gym. Used the pool facilities at 2pm on a Friday, was surprised how packed it was. Clearly a huge amount of local members using the facilities Paying £3.50 per tray for room service - room service is room service. When you don't have an inclusive deal and or have chosen not to book in additionally for dinner in the restaurant, you expect to pay over the odds for the food when ordering it to your room. You shouldn't then also have to pay a tray charge. Have never come across this additional charge for room service before.

Review 138:Decor. Breakfast. Staff friendly and helpful.

Review 139:The room smelt very damp. The windows were damaged. I was next to some sort of water pipes outside which disturbed my sleep. Outside the window was clearly being used for dumping rubbish. The bed was extremely Un comfortable and felt old and creaky. The robes were dirty and the shower water didn't drain. There was also mildew on the lamps. I was disappointed with the cost after paying over £100 a night I did feel disappointed.

Review 140:The location was perfect for me to visit my family home for Christmas. It seemed safe and far enough away from traffic to be disturbed.

The Fine Print

Please note that the spa and health club is located next door to the hotel, not inside the property.
