Reviews for The Mary Arden Inn

Review 1:room radiator cold upon arrival in afternoon and staff only addressed the issue at 3rd time of asking (2.5 hrs wait ), not a good advert for customer relations.

Review 2:Location and breakfast facilities were nice

Review 3:Inn type accommodation, so it has a real heritage feel, also means it has frayed edges. You will either see this as part of its charm or a reason to book premier inn next time!

Review 4:Shower was broken only cold water

Review 5:Improve on friendly staff.guy who answered my call put the phone down on me before he couldnt listen that i had made a reservation online

Review 6:Waited for a staff member to serve around 8 drinks at the bar before coming to check us in, whilst our taxi was waiting outside because we thought it would be efficient service or at least more than one staff member on site and were running slightly behind. The lovely looking 4 poster bed we had in our room, was so dangerously unstable, every time I moved, I felt like it was going to collapse! so I couldn't sleep at all and after a few hours, I went and slept on the floor in the bathroom! The top of the frame of the 4 poster bed was also thick with dust! I found this out in an attempt to stabilize it with cushions. A wine glass in the cupboard at the foot of the bed, which looked like it has been there quite sometime with the thick gelatinous growth in the bottom! YUK! This was for my partners birthday and I feel like a cheap chain hotel room would have been so much cleaner and better than what I thought would have been nice experience. Nothing more than a half hearted apology either. Advice: HEALTH & SAFETY VISIT REQUIRED.

Review 7:Checking out.

Review 8:We had our evening meal in the bar. The food was okay, but we didn't get what was on the menu. My friend should have had a Raita sauce with her starter, but she got a salsa sauce and when we spoke to the waitress, who checked on it, apparently whoever plated up, didn't know what sauce it was! Also on the menu the pie comes with a Shortcrust Pastry top, but we got a Puff pastry top. Just little things, but maybe a check on whats actually on the menu would be a good idea.

Review 9:The staff here were friendly and helpful. There was a warm welcome in the bar with the roaring open fire which we appreciated. The room was fine, although there were some bulbs missing in the bathroom leaving only one over the bath. The breakfast was lovely, cooked to order, and the chef very pleasant.

Review 10:Nothing all was good. Probebly not user friendly for older people as I didnt see a lift. Stairs were steep but because of building age. Not a complaint just a heads up for people when they consider.

Review 11:The location is excellant and its historical and looks the part. Breakfast was included and was excellant again. Would stay again.

Review 12:Just a bit disappointed that although room was described as having a seating area there was only one chair plus stool neither very comfortable.

Review 13:Breakfast was freshly cooked each morning to individual requirements and portions were very generous.

Review 14:The room we had was very dated needed a lot of tender care . New window was not fitted right sending a draft into the room. The bathroom needed new everything . The bedroom furniture was well used and tatty. We had to send the food back still frozen and very expensive

Review 15:The place was great location very plesent village

Review 16:I have no dislikes.

Review 17:We were visiting Kenilworth and the Mary Arden is an easy distance to travel from. The staff were very helpful and we enjoyed our stay.

Review 18:Everything is a little bit shabby around the edges. Water stained curtains, badly draining shower, lumpy bed, the list went on...!

Review 19:Breakfast was tasty, well cooked and there was a good choice of food.

Review 20:The food could have been better.

Review 21:Wonderful and friendly staff very helpful. Lovely view from bed of the farm. Room we had was fantastic a few cobwebs but is a old building. Would love to go back. Would recommend for a romantic break.

Review 22:Nothing. On the warm side but that was soon adjusted

Review 23:Everyone was so helpful and when we had a problem we where helped out more than we had asked. Breakfast was great too

Review 24:Staff we encountered except for the Chef. Were just adequate.Got a very hurried welcome on arrival. After food had arrived never saw anyone to ask us if all was ok? if we wanted anything else?

Review 25:Handy Location. Easy to find. Plenty of car parking. Good food

Review 26:We had a faulty Extractor fan in our bathroom and the old bed frame wasn't altogether sturdy at the joints meaning it creaked when you coughed.

Review 27:Location is good as the train station to Stratford upon Avon is merely a 5 minute walk away, and 1 of the 5 Shakespeare attractions is across the road. The cooked breakfast was very good and the host very accommodating, given that he runs the pub till late at night and then starts food first thing the following day. All in all it was great value for money and a nice little pub to have a drink in, in between exploring.

Review 28:Needed a less flat couple of pillows, but I'm sure I I asked they would have got me more.

Review 29:It was a proper English B&B, no heirs and graces- you can be yourself - very helpful and accommodating staff - lovely well cooked and quickly served full English breakfast- did the job at an amazing price - thanks

Review 30:First impression of room was a silent wow - Five minutes in we see it's very dusty - very, very dusty, and I have asthma, A damp patch with peeling wallpaper in top right hand corner .Re-plastered on entrance ceiling & left bare plaster. Missing catch on wardrobe so the door keeps swinging open. Broken wall sconce from wall on left side of bed. Not the room we had been sent via email in booking confirmation (King Lear room instead of Romeo & Juliet) - and, sadly, the second booking that didn't comply with a booking.com offer

Review 31:Good room - Could have been a great room, but it was pleasant enough to be in

Review 32:After the reviews I had read, I was in some trepidation about my booking - but I had absolutely no need to worry. The room was excellent - bathroom excellent and I had a good night's sleep. What more did I need or indeed want.

Review 33:Very tired, paid extra for Romeo and Juliet room. Jacuzzi bath not usable as floating lime scale. Tacky plastic plants everywhere. Dusty in places. Not value for money sadly.

Review 34:The location.

Review 35:The whole place was tired. WiFi was none existent on arrival. It required one of our number to sort it out and provide partial coverage.

Review 36:The breakfast was good and cooked to order. This coupled with natural light streaming in the triple aspect breakfast room sets one up for the day.

Review 37:Unclean, noise, unhelpful staff could not find any to check in or check out. Finally got manager who was still asleep & hungover from night before.

Review 38:Nothing.

Review 39:No wi fi, although advertised. if we had known, we would have gone somewhere else. We needed to keep in touch with family back in NZ. Apple juice at breakfast was fermented. Cook very apologetic. Pleasant staff.

Review 40:Historic building, old round glass in bay window, nooks and crannies! Creaky floor boards on floors that dip and rise. Beamed ceilings and cosy rooms. Lovely shower, good parking; easy to find; very central to Warick, Stratford and National Trust properties.

Review 41:Dave and his wife fell over themselves to help us arrange taxis and in the end, Dave took us to Ragley hall in my car and bought it back to the hotel. I can't fault the hospitality and kindness shown to us.

Review 42:mattress springs made very uncomfortable sleeping. burnt toast at breakfast. cereals at breakfast out of boxes?should be in suitable containers and nowhere to dispose of boxes, should have chiller for drinks to be kept cool and safe from contamination.self service coffee?Teapots to the table but not coffee?

Review 43:location

Review 44:The room, particularly the bathroom, could do with a bit of upkeep e.g the sink needs new sealant and there was.a crack in the ceiling but no msjor issues :)

Review 45:Breakfast was great- gave me a vegetarian brekkie which was fab. The staff were friendly and it was nice to stay in such an interesting building. We would more than happily stay here again :)

Review 46:Very scruffy. We sat at a table for four at breakfast all of the forks had small congealed bits of food on them. Chairs were water stained etc. Not much choice for breakfast.

Review 47:Good location. Pleasant village.

Review 48:Lack of working fan in the shower room which then gave the shower room a musty smell. . Shower room grouting in the tiles needed attention.

Review 49:Lovely area, close to Stratford. We enjoyed a really good full English breakfast

Review 50:room had tired look about it. bathroom ceiling cracked in need of repair. no soap when we arrived. furniture past its sell by date. evening meal poor

Review 51:not a lot

Review 52:I have stayed in this location on previous occasions over many years. overall the appearance and general quality has fallen. The cost is quite reasonable and breakfast good but the rooms are a let down

Review 53:Location

Review 54:Having know the Mary Arden Inn for many years, we were disappointed with the run down condition of the property and lack of ambience. The signage statrs that the property is now owned by Green King, although it is not offering the quality of accommodation expectrd from that large national company. The room furnishings were heavy and out of date, the public areas in need of a thourgh clean and the breakfast disappointing. The entire establishment is a need of a thorough makeover, which hopefully Green King will implement. Meanwhile, we will certainly not be stating there again. Earlier in the week, we had stayed at the Holiday Inn in Stratford, which is beautifully appointed and actually cost less!

Review 55:Location, opposite Mary Ardens farmhouse, home of Shakespeares mother.

Review 56:The first night, upon checking in we noticed the shower was moldy, and the bathroom really looked as if it needed a good cleaning/freshening. Free, pulic wifi was advertised, but not available (staff even commented that it was difficult, if not impossible to connect). Dinner service started too late, and no one seemed to know when breakfast should/would start, so we ate somewhere else.

Review 57:Excellent location and the building had great character.

Review 58:The bed was about to fall to pieces and it had 2 matress' stacked on it!!

Review 59:The location was good, menu would have been great if they hadn't ran out of certain main courses,

Review 60:Four poster bed. Thought the frame was going to collapse every time we moved, curtain for the bed was shoved into cupboard, along with iron and board. Was it DIY? No soap in shower, absolute basics.

Review 61:Mould in the shower and on the curtains. Mattress not comfy - needs replacing really.

Review 62:Beautiful spot near Stratford. Good size room which was surprisingly quiet for a busy pub. Excellent breakfast

Review 63:The creaky floors in our room were an issue at night time and we found that there was no real lounge area in which we could relax. We felt sorry for the new Manager who clearly needs more staff and the premises need considerable investment to bring up the standard that visitors now expect

Review 64:The manager and his few staff were all very pleasant and helpful and the room we had (Twelfth Night) was basic and reasonably comfortable. Breakfast was very good and cooked to order.

Review 65:Room great and massive and huge ensuite..bed very comfortable ... Slept great it was very peaceful ...had food in the pub at night that was very good...staff very accommodating ... We had to leave before breakfast was served as we were in a charity bike ride... And he came in specially to do us a cereal.. fruit... Coffee..toast -and jam ... Just great ... X x

Review 66:Paying £99.50p for a very dusty disappointing room.called the king Lear suite.tv didn't work .Sat evening bar closed at 10.30.breakfast.no choice and disappointing.General place needed gutting and starting again. At £40 a night I would not stay again.

Review 67:Lovely comfortable large 4 poster bed

Review 68:It wasn't dirty per se but it didn't feel too clean. Needs a lick of paint and a spruce up and things just felt a little sticky.

Review 69:The owners were very friendly if a little bumbling. They were new to the area and it seemed as though they were new to the industry too.

Review 70:The four poster bed would be greatly improved by the replacement of the currently two mattresses - I felt a bit Princess and the Pea. Also the room was far too hot - nursing home temperature. I opened all the windows

Review 71:Gorgeous sofa in the room and there is always a wow factor with a four poster. The staff were all lovely - very helpful and friendly.

Review 72:Breakfast room could do with upgrade.

Review 73:Location allows exploration of a pleasant area. Old Inn with some nice features. Breakfast was great, choice of food on an evening excellent.

Review 74:when we booked this hotel it advertised an al a carte restaurant but when arrived we found this wasnt the case possible down to the fact the hotel had changed hands the day before which we feel we should have been informed about.

Review 75:the room was fantastic couldnt fault anything as was the bar area

Review 76:When we arrived no booking recorded. One new staff person trying to do his best. No other staff. Very little wifi, no breakfast first morning. Only changed towels once, no heating first night. Basically very disappointed.

Review 77:On a positive note. New Manager arrived next day with a positive approach. Breakfast next morning good. Hope they can turn the business around

Review 78:There were faulty bulbs, a torn towel, leaks from radiator and shower, dubious security with bedroom window accessible. The sole lady staff was overworked and left during our stay, but her replacements made rapid efforts to rectify all discrepancies. We had not intended to complain but this is a good opportunity to make you aware.

Review 79:Good location with easy access to Stratford . Nice village and good parking at Inn. Would recommend if sure that all staffing issues have been resolved.

Review 80:We stayed for 4 nights the bed in the room for the first 2 nights was terrible so uncomfortable there was a fire in the kitchen so no food on the second night or cooked breakfast the next morning. We were kindly moved the bed was better but the third night the heating was on the radiators couldn't be turned off so we literally cooked! A breakfast this morning as they had use of a grill. The heating on request was turned of for our 4th night I think it was the only night we manage to sleep fairly well. No cooked breakfast again as once again the kitchen couldn't be used. The girl running the kitchen knew this and although she was very apologetic why had she not gone out and got some cold meats and cheese etc to go with the bread, jam sandwiches for breakfast doesn't cut it for me.

Review 81:The girl there was very accommodating tried her best but the property was just so poorly maintained.

Review 82:Lovely location, walk along towpath to Stratford. Really accomodating at Mary Arden Inn. We enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere, unhurried breakfast and the location

Review 83:The staff need lessons in communication skills bedding was DISGUSTING covered in body stains an excrement and lights didnt work staff wasn't interested drove 140 miles for nothing all manageress said was sorry no other room offered

Review 84:The drive up their

Review 85:Menu was poor with very little choice. Sloppy service. Shower was Luke warm. Did complain but all they said was they would get a plumber to take a look at it. Will not be returning.

Review 86:Nothing!

Review 87:rock hard bed.like sleeping on a concrete block. room could use an armchair tv to small cant see it from the bed breakfast not for those with a big appetite as it was very small

Review 88:friendly staff, lovely room . tasty breakfast ( but very small)

Review 89:Location: (1) right next door to Mary Arden's Farm (2) lovely canal-side walk (<1 hr) or short train ride (5mins) to Stratford-upon-Avon. Breakfast: buffet with good range of food, and a full English cooked breakfast.

Review 90:The only down side was the food as we had a meal and it wasn't great.

Review 91:The room and staff where great . All in all great place to stay to explore the local area. Very friendly and welcoming.

Review 92:drain smell in corridors. my partner is vegetarian and they could not do us an omelette for evening meal. Breakfast was nice enough but small

Review 93:nice room and helpful staff

Review 94:The place needed redecorating and 'refreshing'. The bad thing about our stay was below our bedroom window was an extractor fan (which I presume was something to do with the boiler). It went off every ten minutes throughout the night - I know because I timed it. I also slept badly because the mattress was uncomfortable. The bathroom also needed upgrading (but it was clean). I would have paid extra if the room had been a bit better

Review 95:The breakfast was very good and the room was clean. Also the room rate at £60 for bed and breakfast (for two) was reasonable compared to central Stratford where we've stayed before. The staff were nice too.

Review 96:The room was advertised as a king size room which i assumed would include a king sized bed but it was a small 4poster bed which was very creaky and uncomfortable. Also the room was unbearably hot, with 3 large radiators in and the temperature controls had been removed so we were unable to turn them down, consequently we had a poor nights sleep.

Review 97:Very friendly and welcoming staff, ,pleasent location, good breakfast. It felt like it had been recently taken over and the new owners were working hard to make improvements. Good value for money.

Review 98:Wifi service was almost non existent, very poor reception in room.

Review 99:The hotel is situated in a very rural and extremely quiet area, yet close to railway station for easy access to both stratford as well as coventry etc. The rooms are clean and extremely comfortable and the facilities are very good. Staff could not have been better, extremely helpful and warm and friendly.

Review 100:The room was very hot and we were unable to adjust the temperature of the radiators as the thermostatic valves had been removed,

Review 101:Lovely accomadation, good food and friendly staff.

Review 102:WIFI inexistant Light from hotel shining into room Room on road. Unable to change Felt as if I was falling off the edge of the bed

Review 103:The friendly personnel The dinner The cleanliness The cozy bedroom

Review 104:The double bed was a bit small for 2 grown adults and not quite comfortable. Thought the mattress needed to be changed. The bathroom was too cold and lack of ammenities. Wifi was not working.

Review 105:We really love the full breakfast served at the inn. The room's spacious and lovely.

Review 106:Artificial plants in rooms that weren't dusted, shower didn't work, fortunately there was also a bath

Review 107:The staff, the breakfast and overall value for money

Review 108:Wifi did drop out a few times but the staff re-set it for me. So if it drops out for you, just tell them. They said they will be getting a stronger wifi system soon.

Review 109:This is a lovely boutique inn from the 1700s with each room named after a Shakespeare play. Our room was a little small by modern standards but the bathroom was roomy. The staff are lovely and the pub below warm and inviting. This inn is located in a little village that has another pub and a general store. The train station is a ten minute walk and trains to and from Stratford-upon-Avon are once an hour. Breakfast was great and inn was really clean.

Review 110:Couldn't find any wi-fi, but definitely not a big deal if you're only staying for a night or two.

Review 111:Breakfast included. Very large rooms. Only a few minutes' drive from Stratford. Staff were very pleasant. Would definitely come again!

Review 112:Phone is often unanswered during day or evening making prebooking enquiries difficult. "Things that go bump in the night", central heating plumbing I think.

Review 113:Quiet location Reasonable access to public transport Clean pleasant room Friendly staff

Review 114:room was more than expected, spacious, had a stereo, table and chairs [Romeo and Juliet suite} jucuzzi was fab. Staff were friendly and helpful. local train station a 10 minute walk away, handy for Stratford upon Avon.

Review 115:Good location for us to meet with friends from another part of the country. Easy to find location with a good sized car park. This is a value for money establishment.

Review 116:Stayed in the Romeo & Juliet suite couldn't fault it. Really enjoyed the jacuzzi bath and all the comforts of the room. Staff were very friendly, would especially like to thank Sarah who looked after us she was very helpful and friendly. Would stay there again.

Review 117:Couldn't turn down the radiator's it was either full blast or cold. The extractor in bathroom was very loud and sounded tortured.

Review 118:Large spacious room.

Review 119:Nothing to dislike.

Review 120:From the moment we arrived we were made very welcome, we were shown to our room and asked if we required any help with our luggage (which does not always happen at other places). All members of the staff were very friendly during our stay.

Review 121:Would have liked to use the shower, a holder for the shower head and a curtain would be great. Drinks and food seemed quite expensive.

Review 122:Nice location, just 10 mins drive from Stratford. Characte building. Friendly helpfull staff. Good price for the room. I would stay again. Plenty of tea and coffee making facilities.

Review 123:The room was cold. We were told the heating did,nt come on till 6.00pm which is no good on a cold damp Saturday. Our room was above the kitchen where they must have had the radio or a C.D playing my husband had to complain three times. We were fed up of noise and cold so nipped up the road to a lovely pub with a log fire to get warm and to eat. At £42 with breakfast it was a bargain but don't stay in number 12.

Review 124:Pretty hotel. Girl on reception lovely, helpful and smiley.

Review 125:Lack of shower cubicle. Overbooked so other members of party had to go to another hotel and incurred taxi expense. Lack of local knowledge by staff.

Review 126:Sausage at breakfast

Review 127:Breakfast was on the early side, being a young couple we tend to sleep in so by 10am we missed breakfast on the second morning.

Review 128:It is a lovely little hotel, with a warm homely feeling. Stayed for 2 nights with my boyfriend in one of the themed rooms. Close to stratford town which was perfect for us and really close to attractions if wanting to do touristy things. Staff were friendly and the breakfast we did have was satisfying with a whole range of cooked breakfast and continental. Great parking and ideal location.

Review 129:Twin room not as you would expect - disapointing. Beautiful room with tasteful fittings but 4 poster and camp bed make the twin. When questioned nothing could be done. A free couple drinks as an apology was appreciated but did not make right for the misbooking.

Review 130:Great location; easy to find close to Mary Arden's Farm and close to station. Hotel full of character. Bar and breakfast room very good. Quiet hotel. Plenty of parking.

Review 131:The breakfast was very poor not a great deal on the plate. Sausages very small, black pudding one day then told next day they didn't do anymore. Bar closes early even if you are a resident (closed at 10.30pm on Sunday evening and last orders were not called) and we were asked to leave (by a very rude person that we had not seen before) and told that 'this is not a hotel and the lights are going out in 30 seconds'!

Review 132:Staff very helpful and friendly. Lovely village with the added bonus of train station which goes straight to Stratford. Rooms clean.

Review 133:We enjoyed the Merchant of Venice room with huge four poster, a settee and large bathroom in characterful building. Largest full English breakfast we have ever encountered!

Review 134:We really could not fault it.

Review 135:We found the Inn to be extremely comfortable, the bedroom was beautifully decorated, spacious and very comfortable. The food (we ordered dinner) was excellent. The staff very friendly. We will be back.

Review 136:No wifi access in our room and poor wifi access elsewhere on the premises

Review 137:Good value for money, peaceful location, excellent breakfast, friendly staff, spacious and clean rooms, good parking,

Review 138:The bed was not comfy unfair for me to comment as I was feeling unwell and had to leave a day early. But staff was under standing

Review 139:Nice area pleasant staff good breakfast
