Reviews for Falcon Hotel
Review 1:Found out that the room rate for the dates we were there had reduced enormously but we were still charged the much higher rate given at the time of booking - lesson learned to check that at least a day before arrival next time. When this was mentioned to the staff they didn't really know what to do and eventually included our breakfast in our rate although it still felt like we were being overcharged when we would have paid significantly less had we booked recently. It also didn't help that the beds were really uncomfortable and the bathroom so small you couldn't swing a cat in it, despite being a family room. Stratford is a place I visit quite often and this was my first time in the Falcon Hotel, but I can't say I will return to it - there are others in town that are more comfortable and a lot less pricey!!
Review 2:Great location for exploring Stratford and going to the theatre.
Review 3:Where do I begin... I booked a double room and from the looks at the pictures of these rooms, it was going to be a good stay. First, we were put in another building from the main hotel where we had flights of stairs with no lift. The room was absolutely tiny (although there was a small reception room as we entered which is a waste of space however I understand that this is an old building so maybe nothing can be done about this??). The bed is tiny!! In the pictures it looks like it is a queen if not a king bed, but no it's a very small double. The temperature in the shower is erratic (I have had a burn injury and have to be careful about the temperature however the shower took around 5 full minutes to heat up and when it did it went to the full extreme). The window in the room also did not close fully so it was drafty. I should have complained but I didn't, however I remain disappointed to say the least! - especially for the price we paid!!
Review 4:This is in a great location and has a big car park out the back (Although not free for paying guests!!)
Review 5:Room doors bang so we were disturbed, we closed our room using the key to prevent this, but unfortunately other guests were not so considerate
Review 6:Beautiful building, interesting to read about the history and see the fire damage, lots of character. Very comfortable bed, spacious room at the rear overlooking the car park, quiet, friendly staff. Location perfect for accessing local amenities and a short walk from the train station. We did not eat at the hotel so can not say what the food is like.
Review 7:Paying for parking. Stayed every year for a number of years and never had to pay before!
Review 8:Love the theater - just up the road from there. Love eating out - so many places to choose from and not far to walk.
Review 9:We arrived after 2pm .and were disappointed that the room was not ready. The receptionist was a bit offhand but did offer a drink while we waited. We had to ask for information about the Gala Dinner .I had sent an email a few days before asking about the dress code for the event but did no receive a reply.
Review 10:Food was very good.Parking was easy. The hotel was comfortable.
Review 11:We didn't like leaving.
Review 12:Fantastic staff and beautiful building. Extremely tasty breakfast. We will certainly be staying here again. We love this hotel and Stratford upon avon.
Review 13:Only thing to complain about was the cigarette stubs in the puddle in the courtyard.
Review 14:Excellent central location in Stratford-upon-Avon. Everything was done well; not outstanding, but very competent and the private parking is an absolute winner!
Review 15:We had a very good room but it was adjacent to the hotel heating boiler which was very noisy and kept us awake most of the night.
Review 16:Excellent location. Staff friendly and hotel comfortable and warm. Good food.
Review 17:Room109 overlooked a dirty yard full of rubbish and cigarette ends. Breakfast was £12.95 we went out and paid £5.
Review 18:Lovely hotel in central area. Very friendly helpful staff. Comfortable lounges for drinks and relaxing.
Review 19:Perhaps the staff could have shown a little more Christmas spirit saying that the bar staff were most attentive and helpfulhelping us out with orders of prosecco on ice and serving it in a most efficient way Thank you
Review 20:Location, spacious and good ambience Loved the Xmas decorations and being able to sit around an open fire with family plus being central meant we could pop in and out of centre Made our Christmas break magical Xxx
Review 21:The room was lovely and full of character. My only little niggle was some of the furnishing was a little shabby but couldn't complain for the price.
Review 22:The location was fab no need for public transport or taxis and a great rate for the car park considering its central location.
Review 23:I felt the room I was in (in the newer section) didn't quite warrant the amount I paid for it (poor view, basic facilities, generic decor).
Review 24:The location. The history. The juxtaposition between the old and new. It was very comfortable and I felt safe. Close to theatre!!
Review 25:The fire alarm went off and it was like Fawlty Towers we were left some of us inside and some out, other guests gave up and used the lifts to get back to their rooms no-one seemed to be in charge or knew what was going on. We were all just left waiting.
Review 26:Great location, comfortable and good breakfast. Easy 5 minutes to the theatre, shops and restaurants.
Review 27:But frustrating having two single beds pushed together when we booked a double. Also breakfast more expensive than advertised when paid for separately (£12ish instead of the advertised £10).
Review 28:Superb location, right in the centre of Stratford so perfect for a pre-Christmas getaway.
Review 29:It's the same in most hotels but you have so few English speaking staff. At breakfast trying to get the staff to understand was a real issue. It doesn't matter what race colour or creed anyone is but as customer facing staff the language problem was an issue for all of us.
Review 30:Lovely character hotel in a great position.
Review 31:It was disappointing not to receive newspapers, after making arrangements with reception.
Review 32:The very central location and availability of parking was excellent. I liked the quirky nature of the old building and our room was small, but very comfortable and immaculately clean.
Review 33:Perhaps a bit more choice in the bar food. english breakfast cost too high so I didn't bother as there are loads of lovely cafe's nearby
Review 34:great location and very appealing interiors on the ground floor... bar area and adjoining rooms very cosy and inviting
Review 35:Our requests on the initial booking form had not been addessed so we had a problem when checking in this year
Review 36:We have been coming here to the same hotel for 5 years and love it
Review 37:The hotel was very centrally located and most comfortable. The staff were extremely helpful and the breakfast was excellent. First class "poached eggs!"
Review 38:We were put in room 215, right above a function which carried on til 1 pm, so very poor sleep.
Review 39:Lovely hotel, this was our second stay, excellent location, nice cosy bar
Review 40:Christmas party going on so loud music. Didn't mind that much just would have been nice to know when checking in.
Review 41:Location and look of the building
Review 42:The room was a bit small, not surprising, as the building's an old one, but the colour of the decoration was brown, which made it look smaller. That was the only thing, though - everything else was great.
Review 43:Breakfast, which was delicious, and there was lots of choice. And the mattress on the bed was really comfortable.
Review 44:Only downside was that our room was above the bar and the soundproofing was almost non-existent. Luckily we still managed to sleep reasonably well.
Review 45:This hotel is in a fantastic location near the shops, restaurants and theatre. Our room was nice with a very comfortable bed. Breakfast was excellent.
Review 46:Room 309 was very poor. Bathroom tiny, shower appalling - boiling not able to regulate. Bathroom floor near toilet dirty. Room very noisey. TV lights flashing in middle of night.
Review 47:The breakfast and breakfast staff. The fact that they changed our room.
Review 48:Could do with some refurbishment on the stairs leading to rooms but this was not an issue just a comment that it would make a difference if attended to.
Review 49:Friendly staff and good location for the theatre
Review 50:Bar area was very comfortable but TV screens were distracting.
Review 51:Central location within walking distance of most of the Shakespeare tourist attractions, the theatres and the river. Lots of good restaurants and pubs on the doorstep. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff and pleasant surroundings.
Review 52:Having regularly patronised the Falcon for over 40 years, I was surprised when checking in to be told that there would be a £5 charge for car parking, which on previous visits had always been free for residents. This is a hidden add on, which was not mentioned when I made the reservation. I will not be returning.
Review 53:Town centre location and old world atmosphere, pre Christmas.
Review 54:The Romanian receptionist on arrival was brusque to the point of rudeness and treated us like mental deficients. However all the other staff were very pleasant and made up for it.
Review 55:Location. Being able to get to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and restaurants was a major factor in choosing this hotel originally also the car park.
Review 56:The prices in the bar were too expensive so didn't stop for many, which is a shame because it was lovely & cosy. We went out to find somewhere a bit cheaper.
Review 57:The situation of the hotel is excellent for shops restaurants & for sight seeing. The staff are very friendly & the quality of breakfast was also very good. We love the historic building.
Review 58:Being charged £20 for two very small dogs!!!! This is an outrageous price and double the highest I have paid in any other hotel.
Review 59:Easy parking (but not free!) Comfortable room Quite a good dinner but choice of starters was uninspiring. Excellent breakfast
Review 60:the location was perfect for us.Oweing to disability problems with walking. The lift was a bonus also. The hotel was nice and warm.Staff was more than obliging and made us feel very welcome. We shall make a return visit next year.
Review 61:The hotel allows dogs but is not dog friendly. We were not even allowed in the bar with the dog. However there are many eating places around stratford which are dog friendly so it did not spoil our break. The room was ideally located but very small & in need of decoration.
Review 62:The situation was ideal. Didn't need to move the car, The town & river walks were great.
Review 63:Bed a bit too firm for me and breakfast could have been better quality e.g. bacon and sausage
Review 64:Value for money, good location, pleasant large room and very friendly and helpful staff
Review 65:My room was in the old part of the hotel, with a view of the excavations being carried on at Shakespeare's house. The room would not be to everyone's taste - small bathroom, soundproofing not brilliant, not a straight line in the place - but for atmosphere it would be hard to beat.
Review 66:Great position for sight seeing, restaurants and shopping.. Staff were efficient and friendly. The bar areas were very comfortable and offered a choice of places to sit and relax.
Review 67:The hotel is ideally located in the heart of Stratford with plenty of parking. Inside, the hotel is lovely and maintaines its historic heritage in the older part of the building.
Review 68:The bar was unmanned on numerous occasions. There were no members of staff to serve us. Our room was in the 15th century part of the building. Room was very noisy, we could hear all the noise in the bar and from the floor above.
Review 69:Lovely, old Tudor building and in the middle of town.
Review 70:Thin bedding. Terrible pillows. Filthy curtains. Square of ragged 1980's material for a curtain in bathroom. Freezing bathroom. I'm 5'4" and slim and I struggled to fit in the space inside the shower curtain. Can't make their mind up between old and new so comes across as naff.
Review 71:Lovely old building.
Review 72:Didn't like the dinner menu choice, no chicken offer on half board menu which is mainly what I eat but still couldn't fault the hotel or food that we did have. Cleaner woke us up at 9am on departure day asking if she could clean our room when we didn't have to be out till 11am
Review 73:All of it, great place to stay
Review 74:They could have more staff on the reception desk.
Review 75:Spacious twin room, beautiful hotel combining modern comfort and real olde world charm. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 76:Room was very hot, no airconditioning. Opening the window gave a lot of noise from the street.
Review 77:Super location, center of the town, plus parking available. Staff was very friendly. Nice bar.
Review 78:Whilst the bar was a pleasant room a large TV seemed a little incongruous but this is a minor observation.
Review 79:Comfortable stay in the requested old part of the building. Breakfasts were always freshly cooked, very tasty and a good atmosphere in the breakfast room (poached eggs best ever). The Duty Manager, Janet, and all her staff were excellent ? Generous car parking which was a bonus considering the central location. Proximity of the very delightful Garrick Inn just 50 yards down the road.
Review 80:Bathroon could do with an upgrade. Room very hot even in November
Review 81:Central location with parking facilities and bar. Reception staff very helpful. Room facilities were good.. Fan provided in room. Cant comnent on breakfast as we were room only
Review 82:Staff were rude & refused to lend us a corkscrew. We later found out they have them available for guests. Also, please note while the facade has character, most of the hotel is actually a rather bland modern building.
Review 83:Location
Review 84:Bath in our room was going rusty around overflow area and shower controls needed some care and attention as kept falling of. Cigarette butts all over the garden.
Review 85:Breakfast and service very good. At our request we were moved as first room offered was at the front of the hotel above the bar and we felt might be noisy. Upgraded at no extra cost!
Review 86:The shower only ran hot, room 309, Very cold room on entry and no heating in ensuite, I reported this to reception, didn't argue about price as I was in a hurry.
Review 87:Hotel atmosphere and character
Review 88:Creaking floor boards everywhere could hear people in their rooms and was kept awake by alarm on the hall doors all night a constant bleeping noise
Review 89:The location
Review 90:Parking fees
Review 91:It's a very lovely authentic hotel. Have only stayed in garden rooms but wouldn't want to stay in any of the other rooms. Very very lovely and in Stratford upon Avon a good competitive price. 2nd time visit. Have stayed in most of other central hotels, but will definitely come back to this one. Paid extra for larger bed but faced a brick wall ? Good amount of parking spaces, only downside is we don't think we should have to pay £5 per night when staying in the hotel
Review 92:The location of the hotel was superb - right in the centre of the town with easy access to all of the tourist areas. The front of the hotel is the original timber framed building, whilst the rear has more modern facilities and rooms including a car park to the rear.
Review 93:Nothing
Review 94:Excellent stay as always. Have stayed in this hotel many times over past few years and am never disappointed - location, food, comfort all top class.
Review 95:Was not made aware, even when I checked in, that my room was in an annexe and up three flights of stairs with no lift, which caused me some difficulty when coming and going
Review 96:Beautifully cooked breakfast. Excellent central location
Review 97:Bedroom-really needs updating. Bathroom and room very tired, worn out, falling apart and marked etc taps not working well etc-just needs complete revamp and new ensuites, furnishings and decorating which is a shame as the rest of the hotel is really nice and fits with the setting of the area
Review 98:Food was fab-lovely meals. The restaurant was not greatly used which was a shame as evening meals were great. Need to promote the chef as is very good. Breakfast was OK Service and staff really good Bar and restaurant nice with old features etc
Review 99:Liked everything!
Review 100:Location and style of the building, with it's history, and authentic olde worlde" bars, reading areas, wood panelling and open fires.
Review 101:Although we were on the second floor the noise from the ground floor function room meant I could not get to sleep so, if booking ask for a room at the front, or at least away from the function room
Review 102:Great location. We had booked pre theatre supper and I was impressed that they gave us the menu on check in so we could get our order in early
Review 103:Room near to kitchen ,ventilation system started at 6.30am very loud !
Review 104:Convenient for centre. Authentic buildings well mixed with modern. Food was excellent in the restaurant . Breakfasts also very good lots of choice and excellent service
Review 105:We didn't stay there as you should know! Although we had the booking confirmed months ago ( & paid for it)they told us 2 days before the day that they were moving us. Hence this is an experience with Falcon & yourselves I have learned from & I will never use either of you again.
Review 106:Staying at a different hotel as looking at recent reviews at the Falcon it was probably best they moved us!
Review 107:The price of the breakfast was extortionate and paying to park was an imposition as Stratford upon Avon has very little (no) free parking.
Review 108:Very close to centre of town. The staff were always willing to help. Plenty of areas on the ground-floor in which to relax
Review 109:After pre booking breakfast, they ran out of bacon & sausages, after waiting 30 minutes for more to be cooked I finally gave up and went elsewhere.
Review 110:Booked online with booking.com which allows to click on 'dinner' option....This we did. on arriving at Hotel were told dining room full!! as it was my partners birthday i wasnt best pleased and we could eat in the bar(noisy). Staff said sorry but made no attempt to resolve the situation....finally the excellent bar manager James saved the day and looked after us in a special side lounge and made a table up specially for us...all credit goes to James for his excellent care...no points for reception staff who just transferred to problem on to other staff..
Review 111:Room was comfortable but looking tired, chipped paint, bits missing off taps in bathroom, not to mention taps that worked opposite way round to any i have known..comfortable clean bed...
Review 112:The noise of an extractor fan which boomed in the room. At least.a it was off from 11.00pm to 7.00am. We were not warned about the noise and the tariff for this room is the same as a unaffected room. Thank goodness our stay was only one night!
Review 113:A favourite hotel for us except this time we were allocated a noisy room
Review 114:My room númer was 351 in the old building and the room above us the occupants woke us up at 6.30 walking up and down on very creaky floorboards I didn't book breakfast because I wanted to have a lie in the bed because we had celebrated my birthday the previous night! it was a nightmare I thought they were training for the strictly come dancing show! the noise was terrible it carried on until 10am and we hate to leave the room for 11am and when I complained at the reception the lady wasn't very helpful but she did give me the mangers email. Address to make my complaint. I wish we had book the premier inn at least they Guarantee you a good nights sleep!!!! And a lot cheaper!!
Review 115:Had a lovely evening meal in the restaurant
Review 116:Wedding party music playing at 1000% decibels until half past eleven at night. Hotel fully booked so no chance of being moved. Breakfast nothing like as good as usual... Tepid in chaffing dishes. We were given a goodwill reduction on the price but won't stay again :(.
Review 117:Good location for theatre.
Review 118:Odd the reception was unmanned with a phone to call for someone as earfy as midnight on Friday. Bit insecure that...... Also breakfast charged at more than stated when booked.
Review 119:Great staff. Good to have parking so centrally.
Review 120:Unfortunately they attempted to charge me for another guests room - quickly resolved but incidents like this should not occur.
Review 121:Location is excellent and the room was well-presented.
Review 122:Heating in room was not available - electric heater provided after complaint - water took ages to run warm - Duvet was a bit small for the bed.
Review 123:Convenient with easy parking
Review 124:Room very noisy from bar staff would have asked to move if staying longer. Hotel highlights its oldie worldliness at cost to customer comfort. Very expensive.
Review 125:Location with convenient parking
Review 126:Standard double room was very small, but expected from a hotel of this age
Review 127:Excellent location, excellent customer service, complimentary bottle of prosecco on arrival, beautiful building
Review 128:When we made our booking we were heavily influenced by the photograph of the old 15th Century building. We thought that would be the accommodation and we're looking forward to staying in such an old building. We did understand, as the information supplied on booking did not indicate, that the accommodation was actually in a 20th Century addition behind the old building. This accommodation is at a point where an update would be of benefit
Review 129:The location is excellent, in the middle of the old town.
Review 130:Parking was advertised as free but was charged £5! Reception staff abrupt and didn't come across as friendly. Bath room was tiny you could not shower without the curtain sticking to you. No sanitary facilities I.e tampons/ towels machines in lady's toilets. When we ask reception where we could get some (9:30pm) they said they did not know??? So I had to send my partner out and find them with no help from hotel! He called In a hotel up the road that not only knew where I could get some but sent one of there employees to get it for me. Witch I thought was fantastic seeing I was not a guest at there hotel.
Review 131:Great location. Central to centre!
Review 132:Executive room. Bath rusty, tiles rust-stained, table light bulb broken, no complimentary water, wifi intermittent (wire held in with tape), ash tray on balcony not emptied, old food on radiator, no note paper or pencil, outside areas strewn with cigarette ends, dirty finger marks on doors, no gluten-free cereals.
Review 133:Friendly, helpful staff. Central location.
Review 134:The only thing I could have wished for is a room in the old part of the building. But we can't have everything.
Review 135:I liked the fact that I got what I asked for i.e. Prosecco and orange juice in the room when we arrived as it was my Sisters birthday. The room was spacious and the bed very comfortable and all very clean. The staff were very helpful and friendly without being in your face and the location really couldn't have been any better.
Review 136:We were disappointed that even though the hotel didn't seem full, we were given a room in a more modern annexed building (next door) called the Garden House. It was not what we had expected when choosing this hotel. It was accessed by having to pass outside through a garden courtyard & back passage-way. Ok when the weather is good, but would be a problem if the weather were poor. In addition we found the carpets in the room to be quite grubby and un-vacuumed. The beverage tray itself was also quite grubby & dusty.
Review 137:Great central location, historic Tudor half-timbered building with charming interiors in the oldest part of the hotel. Good wi-fi. Pleasant, efficient, helpful staff. Attractive modern reception. Good room & bathroom size. Very large, comfortable bed. Attractive decor, well-fitted.
Review 138:Don't stay in the old part of the hotel! Although it looks charming, it is very noisy (inside and out). Our room had the worst-designed bathroom I've ever seen - too narrow to use properly and impossible to shower without drenching the room. On top of it all, the staff are surly and have no service mentality.
Review 139:The location is the best thing about this hotel. The breakfasts are ok, but that's about it.
Review 140:The full English breakfast was excellent on the Saturday morning however, on the Sunday morning, the full English was self serve with fewer choices and we had to wait for hot plates to be refilled.
Review 141:The location was fabulous!
Review 142:Cleaning and general upkeep very lax and shabby; lots of maintenance issues and dirt/dust/stains in room. Very limited menus.
Review 143:A generally nice, comfortable hotel in a great location. Good size executive room.
The Fine Print
