Reviews for Ye Olde Talbot Hotel

Review 1:Traffic noise from nearby main road but secondary glazing cut enough of this out to allow a good nights sleep. Coffee at breakfast was luke warm but I do like hot drinks to be hot.

Review 2:Friendly staff and old world character of building and room. Lovely hot water, clean sheets and nice tea, coffee selection. Good menu selection for evening meal and good price range. Takes us back to when we were young, with good traditional English food. Served promptly and the food was a good temperature. It was also good quality. Breakfast service was good and friendly. There was a good selection. Not the best full English we have had but acceptable. Efficient and friendly check-out as was the reception on arrival.

Review 3:No on site parking - but NCP car park in very close proximity (ask at hotel for discount)

Review 4:Good location with easy access to Worcester City Centre. Nice clean and spacious room, friendly staff and good on site restaurant and bar.

Review 5:I was advised that breakfast was served till 12, great! Went for breakfast on the first morning at 11 I don't drink tea or coffee and the staff would not serve me an orange juice as the buffet closed at 10:00, unless I purchased this SERIOUSLY no orange juice cos the buffet was closed???? Very poor, a juice is a standard breakfast item.

Review 6:Good value for money, have stayed here before a good place to stay for what you get and its location.

Review 7:The room was so hot, it was uncomfortable. We had the window open but it was still roasting. Staff explained the heating pipes run around the walls of the 'old part' of the building. Would definitely stay here again, although we would just ask to stay in the 'new part' of the building in order for us to have a comfortable nights sleep.

Review 8:The full English was gorgeous! The atmosphere was lovely

Review 9:Under staffed, unorganised . Had to wait two hours over check in time as room wasn't ready. Nothing explained for breakfast arrangements . Standing waiting ages to be told where to sit and still wasn't told where to go for buffet.

Review 10:Comfy bed, fab location and lovely breakfast!

Review 11:cigarette end on staircase when we arrived still there when we left, wash basin very slow to empty ,mentioned to reception staff who said would look into it but during stay appeared not to differ, poor waiter service waited approx. 10 -15 mins for bowl of porridge, others entering dining room served before we were, on leaving we were not even asked if had enjoyed stay

Review 12:convenient location, food when arrived very good, restaurant, bar staff and cleaner friendly

Review 13:Poor value for money. I booked late, so expected to pay a premium, but still felt overcharged for the condition of the room/hotel.

Review 14:Staff friendly and helpful

Review 15:N/A

Review 16:The customer service was first rate, the room was comfortable, the bar and food was excellent & the location was second to none for our tour of beautiful Worcester.

Review 17:Several sockets in the rooms have old style round pins - they need updating to the standard square pin ones.

Review 18:Homely, friendly staff, good quality food.

Review 19:We booked three twin rooms all of which were fine. However room 5 had a very dated bathroom with mouldy tiles and a blind on the window. When we arrived it was evident that the staff were rushed off their feet due to the Christmas market. I do think extra staff would have benefited everyone

Review 20:We liked the central location, just opposite the cathedral and close to the main shopping area. The food was very good. We enjoyed all three meals at the hotel. The rooms were comfortable.

Review 21:Very bad smell throughout the reception area and corridor, the smell was similar to dirty damp laundry standing for days. Bed and pillows not very high quality , a little uncomfortable.

Review 22:Nice bar and dining facilities.

Review 23:Not so much a bad experience just that the hotel didn't live up to expectations. The room was poorly lit and felt dark - not enough light to read comfortably. The bathroom although clean was in need of updating - in particular the sealant behind the taps was gross!

Review 24:Location is excellent for walking around Worcester. Room was fine and bed was really comfy.

Review 25:The only criticism would be the coffee served at breakfast - stewed and not very warm. We have stayed with you many times but it has not improved. A small thing.

Review 26:Friendly helpful staff also GOOD food. Location excellent for shopping and transport.

Review 27:A very minor gripe, but the shower pressure was rather excessive. Had to have water coming out of both the bath tap and the shower head in order to reduce it to a comfortable level - which wasn't ideal.

Review 28:Room was clean, quiet and warm. Bed was comfortable. Breakfast was excellent, as was the service.

Review 29:Would have loved a decent coffee, sadly theirs was anaemic and tasteless. Breakfast took a while to arrive, (but we were in a hurry) and was luke warm and unappealing. The bathrooms need updating round edges, but our shower was superb!

Review 30:Ideal location for Worcester cathedral, great for food in restaurant on arrival (serves late). Food was very nice...Beds clean and comfortable, staff friendly and helpful.

Review 31:Room and facitities were very nice except there was a constant humming form either a boiler or the pumps below in the bar. there was also the sound of rushing water above our room which a little off putting.

Review 32:We stayed at the Old Talbot for my son's Graduation. This took place at the Cathederal, so location could not have been better. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We had an evening meal in the restaraunt which was excellent, the breakfast was equally so. Very convenient for car parking as well.

Review 33:Room 6 was too warm even with radiator turned off - and had to leave window open so very noisy. Pity that they did not offer to move us on check in to a quieter side as the hotel was not full. Wifi did not work even though there was a router outside the bedroom door.

Review 34:friendly staff; excellent ale in bar.

Review 35:I loved my room - would reqt again , quirky - sloping floor would have done me in if a little tipsy! but loved it, bed very, very comfortable, bathroom finishings could have been tidier but very clean. Staff helpful and friendly - good breakfast, even if service a little ditsy, but all part of the charm of this gorgeous city centre hotel (sheer bliss of staying in a city centre hotel that hasn't been homogenised and has retained original features)

Review 36:Bedroom small and next to main road. Noisy even with double glazing. Parking convenient but quite expensive, even with the discount.

Review 37:Dinner good and very good value for money Good breakfast and included in very reasonable room rate.

Review 38:Sadly we both found the bed uncomfortable, the mattress could do with replacing I think. Room 8

Review 39:Very friendly staff, especially the young lad at breakfast

Review 40:Smell of damp in the corridor and rotten skirting in the bathroom; grumpy staff at Sunday breakfast and soggy toast; lack of warning about the one-way system (how do you get into Friar Street!?) and about where to park once you are there.

Review 41:Good central location; comfortable bed; nice and quiet overnight; helpful and cheerful staff on reception and on Monday at breakfast.

Review 42:The Cloud wifi is intrusive and insists on being allowed to advertise to you. Room not cleaned during our stay and tea & biscuits not topped up. Light in partly refurbished room inadequate and some furnishings, decoration were tatty. Despite these reservations would use again.

Review 43:Perfect location opposite the cathedral with lots of good restaurants close by. Very good value for money.

Review 44:Hotel access to bedrooms is like a maze and has flights of stairs to negotiate, not suitable for the elderly or handicapped.. Hotel internal is "tired " and needs an uplift. Perhaps reduce the number of rooms and improve them in size. Reception difficult at time to contact as staff appear to have to multi task between bar and reception. Advert should explain in more detail car parking arrangements.

Review 45:Location and breakfast.

Review 46:Dark room with bathroom accessed via stairs. No heating in the bathroom Poor service at breakfast I.e. no ham, toast served late, cheap products in fried breakfast

Review 47:Good location

Review 48:Excellent location opposite the Cathedral. It was the most comfortable bed I've slept in for a long time! My single room had all I needed, even a bath in the en-suite. Breakfast was included and was very good and promptly served.

Review 49:Lack of soundproofing led to a disturbed night's sleep (street noise and noise from the occupants in the room next door).

Review 50:Clean and comfortable room. Friendly welcome upon arrival.

Review 51:The member of staff on the reception desk didn't make me feel particularly welcome and was very abrupt and didn't really have the time of day for me, the room was of an ok standard however there were lots of cracks around the floor on the bathroom and it was very noisy from upstairs, the breakfast was ok but could have been a bigger portion, I had to ask for toast three times and was then told that they were waiting for the bread to defrost and when it eventually arrived it was stone cold and not toasted.

Review 52:It was a great central location and friendly atmosphere and very reasonably priced drinks.

Review 53:having to pay for parking in NCP next door for 2 nights it was £15 with discount.

Review 54:Location is right in the heart of town. it has good beers and breakfast

Review 55:The hotel was fine but parking was a pain. The parking facilities is an NCP car park. The main entrance was blocked for what ever reason, and parking spaces on the road outside the hotel was non existent,

Review 56:The hotel is in the centre of town which gave us easy access to what we wanted to see, which is why we chose this hotel.

Review 57:Excellent location but not good value for money. The lighting was not good in the room, I could not read in the evening (and no reading light by the bed at all) The mattress was very old and uncomfortable with a big dent and the bottom sheet too small for it, not quite reaching to cover it. I could hear guests next door very well (every single word they spoke and their tv) Unfortunately I have booked for two more stays and I wish I could cancel but they don't give that possibility (even though it is in 3 weeks time) so please bear in mind that this is one of the few places that doesn't have a cancellation policy!! Very loud live music on Friday until 11 so not good if you are planning to be in your room at the time. My worst overnight stay in Worcester, I would not recommend this to anyone unless there is nowhere else.

Review 58:Very good location

Review 59:Only down side was that I was over the pub bar so got the full benefit of the Friday night entertainment, but it didn't last until too late so was an inconvenience more than anything else

Review 60:Clean, recently decorated, excellent shower (very hot and very hard) Breakfast was very good and plenty of it. Dinner menu was extensive and catered for vegetarians

Review 61:Nothing negative. The building isn't brand new so wasn't expecting it to be amazingly contemporary.

Review 62:The location is perfect for a weekend in the city. Perfectly in the centre and right by the Cathedral (which is a little noisy on a Sunday morning but a lovely noise). Parking at the NCP next door is great too. The pub attached to this is great for food and drink. 11am check out and breakfast until noon which is always a winner.

Review 63:Could have done with more tea & coffee facilities in room.

Review 64:Great customer service. Central location and added value of being a lovely old coaching inn.

Review 65:TV remote control didn't work from first day (we were there 4 nights) They tried to replace it but couldn't and offered me to move another room instead. Wasn't looking forward to move at all.

Review 66:Staff was always friendly even at 6am! Location was excellent. Highly recommended and will definitely come back.

Review 67:Very helpful in storing our bags for us both at the beginning and end of the stay. Informative staff gave us ideas of things to see in the area. Rooms were comfortable, clean and spacious. The restaurant was convenient and food was good.

Review 68:in terms of sleep for us or young children then I wouldn't choose here again. Whilst I accept the location in the city centre implies certain noise levels, a combination of poor windows, very noisy pipework and no air conditioning meant very little sleep for us all. The bathroom needs updating - mouldy grouting/sealant and a general dated feeling.

Review 69:the staff were friendly and responsive. the room was a decent size and comfortable. the location is great for access to the city centre, with a discounted car park next door

Review 70:Overall a nice hotel in a good location, the staff were friendly. Its not in tip top condition but everything worked and was very clean. Our room looked onto a small inner courtyard which meant it was quiet for a city center hotel.

Review 71:Bed was too bouncy and soft for my liking though I'm sure some prefer them that way. Street noise was a bit bad at night but one can expect that based on the location near pubs and clubs,.

Review 72:Bathroom was spotless and well presented. Food was pricey but delicious

Review 73:EXcellent location. Good room. Lovely room. Friendly helpful staff. Good bar atmoshere. Brilliant breakfast. Excellent value for money. Would happily return.

Review 74:a hot pipe 24 hours a day running around the room,a warm evening you need windows open, but the noise outside was unbearable which meant windows needed to be closed = a very hot room.

Review 75:The staff were very friendly & helpful,a lovely location, noisy on a Friday & Saturday night especially room 3. picture below shows room 3 above sign.

Review 76:Parking hav to pay8 GBP and the P. House are not open in time. If you want to go to the Airport don't go in there. I have seen People verry angry

Review 77:Close to the town center

Review 78:The noise level from Friar Street, which my room overlooked, was very loud on Friday night and lasted until late. On Saturday, the Hotel had a singer in the bar but, fortunately, he had a lovely singing voice and the singing stopped at a reasonable hour. The early morning hours can also be noisy from the street.

Review 79:The location is excellent, the staff are always pleasant, the food is very good at every meal, the bar is cozy. The building itself is utterly charming and seems to be well maintained.

Review 80:It was loud sometimes, e.g. a concert in the pub downstairs or drilling holes in the wall until midnight. Not very good for visitors who have to get up early in the morning.

Review 81:Breakfasts were delicious and the staff was wonderful. Very close to the center, train stations and all places of interest.

Review 82:Rusty bathroom. Dingy ground floor room.Staff said different things when we asked why theres no fish n chips in restaurant, one said there isnt any left another said the fryer broke. not worth the doe!

Review 83:No much

Review 84:The room was adequate rather than great. It comes across as a pub with some rooms, rather than a hotel with a bar and restaurant.

Review 85:A building of character in a convenient location

Review 86:Room was next to main road so noisy with window open, despite request for as quiet as possible. Lots of steps to room in this old property.

Review 87:Free wi-fi was excellent and breakfasts were superb.

Review 88:Hotel on a very busy junction, room so hot windows had to be open, hence very noisy. No toilet brush provided.

Review 89:Old English inn, you know what to expect

Review 90:Lack of parking. However, there's an NCP car park behind the hotel with parking discounts for hotel guests

Review 91:Superb location Friendly family-run type atmosphere Lovely olde world feeling

Review 92:The only issue was a dirty shower curtain which I was not expecting as the bedroom and bathroom were very clean. stayed in room 21 so please change this!!

Review 93:friendly staff, great location, comfortable room, excellent value for money and very good food..

Review 94:Had a room with a four poster bed. Huge bathroom and everything lovely and clean. Good food served in the restaurant and all staff were very friendly and efficient.

Review 95:Not a single bad experience

Review 96:Breakfast was absolutely phenomenal, staff were friendly and helpful, bed was so comfy. Definitely my go-to accommodation when I stay in Worcester.

Review 97:Everything about this hotel was as we wanted. The room was larger than expected and the facilities were as described on the website. The staff were professional and courteous, especially those in the dining area for breakfast. Would definitely stay there again..

Review 98:No soap in bathroom. WiFi difficult to log in and required too much personal information. Breakfast buffet was depleted and never replenished. Waitstaff at breakfast very inattentive.

Review 99:Location

Review 100:Think it could be a hot room, original windows with double glazing, not sure if you could open them. However, fan provided although we didn't need it. Has to be accepted as it is a Heritage Building.

Review 101:Comfortable large room, comfy bed and light up mirror in the bathroom!! great for make-up/shaving. Right in the centre of Worcester but very little noise heard at night. Due to situation visitors need to use NCP Car Park which is next door - discount given.

Review 102:Needs freshening up paint wise in some parts of the hotel.

Review 103:Great location for touring the city, everything within walking distance.Nice quirky olde world hotel.

Review 104:Everything looked really tired. Our room was not made up until after 2pm and then we had to ask for this to be done. The noise was unbelievable and the room was so hot. We asked for a fan which the hotel provided. The chairs in the bar needed replacing and the whole place seem to need a real make over.

Review 105:Breakfast was excellent

Review 106:Lovely old character hotel, staff very friendly and helpful, breakfast good value included. The room was very warm, however, there was a fan in the room for use and street noise is to be expected when you stay in a city centre on a Friday night. This was good value and excellent position for the Cathedral and centre . Parking although not part of the hotel is easily accessible for a discounted charge

Review 107:Was very disappointed that after an evening of racing and concert, we returned to the hotel to find the bar closed at 10.30pm. We were a party of 10 responsible adults looking to relax for a couple of hours but had to trek outside in search of an alternative.

Review 108:Helpful, cheerful staff, room was clean and comfortable and a good hearty breakfast.

Review 109:Unimaginative breakfast choices, especially for vegetarians and nasty supermarket sliced bread for toast. But worse - why do most hotels provide semi-skimmed UHT in the bedrooms? It is the cream/fat in the milk that leaves a weird aftertaste when it has been heat-treated. Fully skimmed doesn't have that foul taste!

Review 110:The staff

Review 111:The location was ideal for us. We were able to get able to get about quite easily. The staff in this hotel are amazing. My husband and I are in our late 70's but they treated us as they treated everybody else. We really enjoyed our stay.

Review 112:Corridors were a bit scruffy (and smelt a bit musty/damp outside our room - the room itself was fine though).

Review 113:Staff were really friendly. Walking distance to the cricket ground and local pubs etc.

Review 114:The carpark discount was a tad disappointing. Getting £3.00 off an £11 ticket wasn't up to much. I've stayed in many a city centre hotel where the NCP parking came free.

Review 115:What was in essence a 'budget priced' room in the city centre, it was a really top quality venue. Clean, comfortable, friendly. Better than average breakfast.

Review 116:There was road works outside the bedroom window which woke us at 7am I know this isn't the hotel's fault but I did ask for a quiet room.

Review 117:Lovely clean room and central location

Review 118:If you are staying in one of the rooms overlooking the main street you will get some noise from people coming out of the pubs but that soon passes and you will get cars passing in the morning but you still can manage a good night sleep

Review 119:Location was very good as we had family nearby

Review 120:It was very noisy. The location in the centre of town might be good for some, but the hotel has busy roads on both sides so cats and pedestrians ate close

Review 121:Staff were excellent and the food was outstanding.

Review 122:Wifi wouldn't work at all, would not be able to use this hotel if accompanied by wife due to her mobility issues

Review 123:Location very good great for access to the cricket ground

Review 124:I stayed here for two nights, having a single and a double room and was positioned on the rear for each. The rear of the hotel proved to be somewhat very noisy until late in the evening and early morning as my room was opposite restaurants and a pub. For such a small pedestrian like narrow street, noisy groups of drunken revellers past. Traffic was on the noisy side, picking up to collect those at the nearby bars . Motor bikes and boy racers were an obvious nuisance, accelerating sharp through the street after 12am. This made it difficult to sleep (even with the window closed.) Maybe some double glazing would help here. At 6am, there was further noise with trucks and deliveries serving the businesses. Was so tired that I was late checking out!! I must add that on my first night in a single (first floor), I could not get any hot water for a shower sadly but, it was something I brought up at reception to address.

Review 125:This is part of a chain managed by Old English Inns. The hotel benefits from it's central location in Worcester particularly, being close to the Cathedral, restaurants and is a few minutes walk to the shopping streets. Staff are friendly, approachable and welcoming upon arrival and, will help you the best they can to ensure you have a good stay. Some of the rooms like the double I had was spacious, offering table, comfy chairs and work desk. A wardrobe was provided offering ample space but looking rather antique, made a creaking noise when opened. I liked the facilities such as an iron/ iron board which I made use of and the bathroom offered a powerful shower . Rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable, plenty of pillows and the décor is more modern/ traditional.

Review 126:There wasn't much we didn't like, :)

Review 127:We liked this hotel alot it was in a great location near town centre and pubs, staff were lovely and breakfast was nice, would definitely stay there again :)

Review 128:The shower was not user freindly. It is an unusual arrangement but worked okay in the end.

Review 129:The staff were helpful and freindly. They let us leave our bags securely when we checked out whilst we went around the town. It is great for anyone who plans to visit the cathederal.

Review 130:Breakfast didn't rate 4 star status.

Review 131:dinner was good service a little slow but they were busy. On arrival we had difficulty locating some-one to deal with us

Review 132:Housekeeping a bit slack Could do with a bit of paint in public areas and carpet cleaning on stairways etc.

Review 133:Staff very helpful and friendly A very good breakfast and evening meal.

Review 134:Not enough staff - those there worked incredibly hard; décor tired and in places scruffy; poor room lighting.

Review 135:Lovely staff, especially Naomi who served breakfast single-handedly; wonderful breakfast; superb location; quiet room with comfortable bed.

Review 136:Nothing it was all good.

Review 137:Very comfortable room in the newer wing. Left my ipad charger there and it was sent on to me by post. Really very good service.

Review 138:Room was ok-ish but what ruined it was the staff attitude. Particularly the breakfast staff who preferred to stay out of the way instead of serving waiting customers. Also the bar staff had a preference to serving locals rather than guests.

Review 139:Not much really

Review 140:The bed very uncomfortable and when I told the manager Simon I was told no one else has ever complained . Very poor Wifi street connection the cloud would not recommend this Hotel
