Reviews for Belton Woods
Review 1:The size of room would have permitted a king size bed rather than the average sized one we had.
Review 2:The peace and tranquility. Despite it being the weekend before Christmas and party season in full swing, it did not affect us at all.
Review 3:Had to change rooms due to broken bathroom light/unclean desk/poor paintwork in bathroom. Restaurant closed early without advertisement but was offered complimentary room service to make up for this.
Review 4:Beds, space in bedroom, bathroom, lounge with fireplace, quality of food, onsite spa.
Review 5:Showers were dirty and dated in the leisure area. Our suite widows were rotten and mouldy. The mattress appeared to be left with the memory of somebody else's body ! not comfortable. Stains on the carpets not nice! Glass table tops were loose and could have been knocked and fell. Let down by breakfast! Although told it was being cooked fresh due to so little residents it had obviously been sat under a heat plate! The hash browns were to hard to eat and beans had a film over them. Shame as the evening meal was great so were really looking forward to a good breakfast.
Review 6:Staff were excellent, Sarah on reception and the two mature severs on breakfast could not if done more. Received complimentary upgrade.
Review 7:The Rooms are dated. The whole place needs a massive overhaul! The shower was next to useless. The bed was old and lumpy. The breakfast was very poor...apparently the sausages are a 'chef special'..not good at all...
Review 8:Great Location. Fair price.
Review 9:Hotel rooms very tired and basic really need a make over particularly bathroom. Hotel very short staffed, breakfast particularly affected ie no clean glasses, tea took forever to arrive and very little to choose from due to buffet not being kept topped up.
Review 10:Good swimming pool and jacuzzi facilities. Evening Carvery excellent, plenty of choice, food kept hot and fresh.
Review 11:None
Review 12:Our stay was a family weekend to celebrate a special birthday. There was a large range of ages, there was something to please everyone. The staff & hotel did everything to make the event a very special weekend.
Review 13:The food in the restaurant was very disappointing, we booked in at 8pm and didn't receive our food till 10pm!! The portions were tiny for such high prices. Usually not fussy about this but it wasn't brilliant!
Review 14:The hotel was nice but I think a little too big and rather dated.
Review 15:The rooms are not sound prove we could other guest talking and it was uncomfortable
Review 16:We have a great time at the hotel staff were polite and helpful There was activities for the children and I enjoy the spa
Review 17:Stayed here for one night and loved it. Very good check in with very helpful staff. Room was lovely with good bed. TV was excellent as was free wi-fi signal. Shower was good which pleased me a lot as so many hotels let themselves down with poor showers. Breakfast was a buffet affair but was very good. We enjoyed it so much I have just booked 3 nights midweek break fir my wife's birthday in March.
Review 18:For the money I paid a fridge in the room would of been nice. Meals were rather expensive, some cheaper options would be good.
Review 19:The bed was perfect for my tall boyfriend & loved going on the Segways,.
Review 20:The whole experience was super! We like coming to visit the National Trust House opposite and happened to see the discounted rate for staying, advertised on late rooms (I think.) The low price, value for money was the reason we chose to stay, and will keep checking for future visits. Many thanks.
Review 21:Nothing at all .
Review 22:From beginning to the end of stay was first class the staff , leisure , rooms ,service and food ....I would defiantly come again just got to save up again .....
Review 23:Disappointing service in Claret Jug bar as function was on upstairs. Not enough staff working to look after us and also function so our snacks took an hour to come and when we asked for our coffees they still hadn't arrived 10 minutes later so we had to ask for a refund rather than wait any longer.
Review 24:Hotel facilities were great including recreational options - we really enjoyed swimming and squash. Ideal location for walks around golf course. Evening buffet and breakfast were both very nice.
Review 25:The dining room chairs looking tired and marked. Leisure changing rooms cold & lots of lockers not working.
Review 26:The evening meal & breakfast food was really good. The best part of stay.
Review 27:1) My wife found large amount of dirt around the plug holes both in the sink and the bath, which was a bit off-putting. 2) The food was overpriced for what we got, we both had a sirloin steak which was comparable both in presentation and size to food we have eaten in a beefeater restaurant at about three times the price.
Review 28:1) The surroundings, the golf course and setting is very nice. 2) The swimming pool and other leisure facilities were very good. 3) Overall I enjoyed my stay at the Hotel, however travelling from Aberdeen for my wife's birthday treat left it a bit disappointing.
Review 29:No atmosphere in the lounge ie no music poor seating areas. Quality of food not great and very expensive for what you received. Poor upkeep overall in the hotel such as the leisure facilities, changing rooms ect. Could be so much better.
Review 30:The reception staff were excellent. Squosh courts great, outdoor activities excellent.
Review 31:The booking.com description of the Delux Double is wrong. Hotel staff have apparently told booking about this before. I wouldn't have paid the extra if the description had been correct.
Review 32:Nice hotel for what I needed
Review 33:The sports bar smelt of stale beer which is usually a sign that the pipes are not cleaned properly. The whole place looks slightly tired. Apart from the main hotel bar.
Review 34:Staff were very friendly and children were made welcome.
Review 35:Evening Meal was dreadful. Carvery at a four star establishment, some of the worst food choices I've ever seen on a carvery. £16.00 for one course - cheap sausages and mash, luke warm chilli con carne, poor vegetables, dry. Seriously disappointed. Desserts all just bought in little desserts...Iceland desserts are better. Is that the best options the chef can come up with ?? four star hotel with one star food.
Review 36:Good, Clean, Spacious Accommodation. Excellent Breakfast. Friendly Staff
Review 37:The sofa bed in the room we had was all springs, hence marked down for comfort
Review 38:Staff couldnt have been more accommodating. Due to a mix up apparently between booking.com we had been allocated a double room instead of a family room but the staff were great in moving things around to fit us in. Thesports facilities are great and the staff in the restaurant and the leisure facilities were the nicest and most accommodating I've met.
Review 39:Receptionist staff never asked if I had been there before . They never gave us much detail about the hotel , in regards to were the restaurant was, leisure club and was rude when I asked with regards to breakfast.
Review 40:Great room and restaurant . Very friendly and helpful staff.
Review 41:Having stayed several times over the past 8 years, standards seem to be slipping, cold buffet breakfast, and staff not as helpful?
Review 42:The rooms are spacious an clean,an outstanding golf courses
Review 43:In the evening, my wife and I only wanted a sandwich. However, the main bar - which is very pleasant - only serves sandwiches in the afternoon. So we had to go to the Sports Bar which does serve snacks and which is far less pleasant. It has low ceilings and the sound echoes which makes it impossible to have a quiet conversation. There was a group of golfers in there - they weren't badly behaved, just a bit exuberant, but the noise of their conversations echoed all round the Sports Bar. So, providing sandwiches in the main Bar at any time would be an excellent move.
Review 44:Excellent location, room, breakfast and Spa.
Review 45:Exterior windowsill of bedroom was very dirty and fly infested so I could not have the window open as flies flew in.
Review 46:Every member of staff was very kind, helpful and polite. very calm atmosphere throughout the hotel.
Review 47:The noisy restaurant at dinner - one of my party had a hearing aid and found the noise uncomfortable.
Review 48:The helpful staff when I was unwell. The variety of dishes available at breakfast and dinner.
Review 49:The room we had is starting to look a bit dated and needs refurbishing
Review 50:Great pool area Food of a high quality Great choice at breakfast Beautiful gounds
Review 51:General quality of the stay, dirty room, poor quality food, staff on very interested in its guests. I was travelling with a German college and was quite embarrassed by the one night stay.
Review 52:location
Review 53:Shabby, our room look a bit tired, can't speak for the rest of the hotel
Review 54:Nice quiet location, up a long drive. Large rooms, ours had 2 double beds. Great breakfast!
Review 55:The bed was hard and pillows very uncomfortable. Heard door banging in nearby stairwell which jangled my nerves.
Review 56:Lots of facilities, golf, squash, gym and lovely pool.
Review 57:I knew I would be arriving relatively late so I telephoned the restaurant the day before my arrival to check what time they closed. I was told that last orders were 21:15 but I could still obtain food in the bar until 22:00, alternatively I could use room service. On the day I booked in I arrived about 21:45 so I thought I would use room service rather than go to the bar. I called room service and asked if they could tell me what the soup of the day was (depending on what was available I was going to opt for the Baked Sea Bass). The man I spoke to said he didn't know and would call me back, which he did. I was then informed that they were out of soup and they didn't serve anything hot after 22:00, but I could have a sandwich. There was nothing in the hotel information that stated that hot food was only served until 22:00, nor was I told that when I telephoned the Restaurant on Sunday, if they had I would have stopped on the way and had a hot meal. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. Breakfast in the morning via room service was very good.
Review 58:Upon leaving the hotel we both realised that we had terrible stomach upsets and the hotel was the only place we had eaten between lunchtime on the 6th until we left after breakfast on the 7th. My wife became unwell before me and could only manage plain porridge for breakfast.
Review 59:large room two double beds
Review 60:Room decor getting rather dated...
Review 61:Great rural setting, with lovely views from out side bar of golf course... Enjoyable breakfast before continuation of journey north..
Review 62:The reception staff kept us waiting a long time to check in & we had been on our honeymoon no nice things in the room not polite member of staff when we checked in & complained the next morning
Review 63:The food
Review 64:Average food when ordered room service. The warm air heating is very noisy and they don't have AC for the summer
Review 65:Gym, friendly staff, plenty of parking
Review 66:Bathroom was grubby eugh! Carvery meat was too tough to cut, told waiter who offered me something else, but had almost finished, had better food at 2 for a tenner pubs! Breakfast excellent though. Salon way overpriced, would avoid this!!!
Review 67:The activity centre was the only thing we enjoyed, but yon don't need to stay at the hotel, all staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly, excellent breakfast!
Review 68:Food at the bar was awful. Couldn't use the swimming pool untill 8 pm because of the amount of screaming kids. The room on the ground fliir was not cleaned properly and was damp.
Review 69:Massage, that's all.
Review 70:The pool was shut on one of the days and we were incorrectly told that the swimming pool closed for kids at 8pm (it's 7pm) on weekends. Reception don't keep water bottles so you either have to order on room service or go to the bar.
Review 71:Very nice hotel, William in the dining room was exceptionally good at looking after us, even with me needing a strict gluten free diet.
Review 72:Rather mediocre restaurant for evening meals. Staff excellent But food rather ordinary and restaurant very noisy.
Review 73:close proximity to the event we were visiting in Grantham
Review 74:Walls are paper thin - could hear everything in next door rooms so didn't have a good night's sleep. Chef had a melt down at breakfast - had to wait around half an hour for a pouched egg.
Review 75:Pool and leisure facilities were great
Review 76:We had to walk a long way to our room as we were at the end of several corridors. The internal signage was poor so we had to keep asking at reception for directions.
Review 77:The room with comfy sofa and large TV. The bathroom with large bath and heated towel rail. Breakfast food and meal in the Claret Jug. The extensive grounds.
Review 78:The setting for the hotel is gorgeous...and the facilties that are available mean that you wouldn't need to leave the grounds if you didn't want to. We made good use of the swimming pool, which was adult-only in the evenings. The room was very comfortable and I slept really well. Breakfast in the morning had excellent choice and staff were friendly. The one meal that we had in the Brasserie was delicious (we are both vegetarians and had the giant couscous with haloumi) and were well looked after by Lucy.
Review 79:Prior to arriving I emailed the hotel with a few questions about the hotel and having 2 children I wanted to know what facilities were available to us. I did not receive a response to my email which I found both rude and disappointing. Small problem but I ordered a newspaper that was not delivered and after mentioning to reception it seemed like a regular problem.
Review 80:The location and facilities were good and the ease of the check in/out were fine.
Review 81:The size of the bath was quite disappointing
Review 82:Efficient and friendly staff. Room was very nice with a great sized bed. Views were lovely. Plenty of facilities to keep me busy.
Review 83:Such a shame that you no longer take dogs. Having some rooms well away from the main part of the building, and lovely woodland walks, this is the perfect location for a pet friendly hotel
Review 84:As a family we have stayed at this hotel numerous times and we are never disappointed. Stunning setting, great facilities and very nice staff.....Please resume acceptance of dogs though!
Review 85:WIFI kept dropping out and really didnt work very well.
Review 86:Great location with loads of facilities, if we had anything we needed it was done with a smile and prompt.
Review 87:The quality of food in The Claret Jug: Beer battered fish and chips....beer batter was over crisp on outside and uncooked on inside. One of the pieces of fish was' off'. We were not charged and given alternative food which was satisfactory but no more.
Review 88:The position of our room with patio doors, quiet and private location.
Review 89:Staff were all friendly apart from a snooty waitress at breakfast. But the rest of the staff were excellent. The facilities are great and the grounds are beautiful! Would definitely go back again!
Review 90:Changing rooms at the leisure side were filthy. We complained to staff their but we were told in the case of the girls there was no female cleaner on site at all.
Review 91:Good choice of breakfast options.
Review 92:Booked De-Luxe Double via Booking.com advetised with Sky hd Movies, BoseSound etc. in Room got standard double. Told Booking.com advertise roomwrongly and they don't put these rooms out to Booking.com and theydidn't have one of these rooms available anyway. Moved to a suitewhich was too badly maintained and cleaned to stay in it. Moved to 3rdroom, a standard double it was cleaner but still none of the extras wehad booked so insisted on a discount which we eventually got butdidn't make up for the disappointment especially as it was a suprisefor my husbands birthday. Pool area had the pool and jacuzzi working butthe water features were not running when we went there.
Review 93:Lots of car parking space and was in a quite location. Reception StaffVerity and Sarah did their best to assist when we had problems and laterreferred us to Tom the operations manager who tried to help us furtherbut was limited to what he could offer.
Review 94:When we got to our room we thought it was still occupied as there was drink bottles on the side some golf tees on the floor, paperwork left on the side and tags from new golf poloshirts on the floor and a towel flung over the door and used shower gel and shampoo bottles left in shower.
Review 95:The staff were nice and helpful and we had a relaxing time
Review 96:didn't have any bad experiences, the thing that spoilt Belton Woods was there seemed to be a lot of windows throughout ( including our room ) that had failed glazing units and had become " steamed "up,hence obscuring the view !!
Review 97:The setting, the atmosphere, the food, the staff and the Health club facilities.
Review 98:There was a mix up with paying prior to my arrival, which wasn't great. However the staff who checked us in did everything to turn this around and had a manager contact me to assure me the problem has been solved.
Review 99:The Hotel is Lovely, very clean and impressive. We were upgraded to a larger Room with a massive bed, which was so comfy. Breakfast was to a high standard the next morning and they easily catered to my Gluten Free requirements.
Review 100:The distances you had to walk from your room 277 to the reception area would be difficult for people with mobilityproblems, and I dont remember being asked if I had these sort of problems at the booking stage. However members of your marketing staff had the time to phone me and try to sell otherservices.
Review 101:The staff in general were very helpfull.
Review 102:The hotel is lovely and the room was fantastic I'm glad I upgraded to a deluxe as it was a huge room. The staff were amazing and very friendly in all areas. The pool was great and very relaxing. We ordered breakfast in bed and had so much food which was excellent quality. We wished we could stay longer to have a treatment or explore more of the hotel. We will definitely be coming back.
Review 103:Bar staff could be better, Hotel could do with some renovation, looking a bit tired for cost.
Review 104:Breakfast staff very helpful. Nice location. We did not play golf, but looked a good hotel if you did, course looked in very good condition.
Review 105:Amazing staff who could not do enough for you. Incredibly friendly and polite - wish all staff were like this. Every single member of staff we interacted with left a lasting impression of competence and friendliness.
Review 106:Suite very dated as was the bathroom. Comfortable bed. Forget watching anything decent on the TV. No pay for view channels. Very dated.
Review 107:Very good hearty breakfast on offer with friendly waiting staff.
Review 108:your reception staff need to take a new course in customer relations - very noisy at night and we were woken up at least three times a night with drunken residents
Review 109:Robert in restaurant
Review 110:Having been in the hospitality industry for the past 30 years, I dont think I have ever come across such a bunch of friendly , helpful and motivated hotel staff. Service excellent
Review 111:Only concern was on the first floor there were several steps to the bedrooms corridor as you came out of the lift but no slope for people having difficulty using stairs.l
Review 112:Pleasant relaxing break. Stunning venue and facilities.
Review 113:Always enjoyed the pool area, this time there were too many children in the Jacuzzi and nobody controlling the area. Also we never received our newspaper in the mornings. The breakfast was nowhere near as nice as it used to be.
Review 114:The room was comfortable.
Review 115:Wine and food quite expensive compared to other hotels.
Review 116:Love the views from the rooms, the grounds and the leisure facilities especially the pool. Friendly & helpful staff!
Review 117:Very poor quality of food in the sports bar , limited menu choice and waited 45 mins for lunch There was insufficient staff and those that were working seemed disinterested Not what I expect from this quality of hotel it has definitely deteriorated since my last visit 16 months ago
Review 118:Very comfortable bed and lovely room
Review 119:Found the dinning room very busy and noisy due to the volume of people that seem to know each other.
Review 120:We have been at this hotel before and have found it very pleasant, did try to upgrade our room but was not available due to the busy weekend and the volume of people booked in.
Review 121:No valet parking (could have been something helpfully offered), general lack of bellboys etc to help with luggage right away and failure for wake up call to actioned (and, compounding the error, lack of interest by Reception staff the next morning to think that this needed investigating since luckily my smartphone had provided a back up which worked - but that's not the point!)
Review 122:Resort layout, room comfort, dining experience, bar comfort all highly acceptable
Review 123:Bathroom was scruffy.... Toilet roll holder missing.....room was cold- but heating was noisey We had friends staying at the same time in a similar room.... That had a coffee machine.... We didn't??? Is there a dress code..... As a woman ate breakfast in her pyjamas.....
Review 124:Food was good and staff were friendly....hotel was clean and tidy....
Review 125:Tried to stay for an extra night. The price of the room had gone up by 40 pounds. We have been regular customers of this hotel and it is disappointing to find that there is no recognition of this. 40 pounds for the same room is not good.
Review 126:Mary in the dining room was so obliging. Very nice lady.Could not do enough to help us.
Review 127:Warm welcome to the Hotel on arrival which continued throughout our stay from staff in restaurants and bar. Given this relatively large hotel, it had a friendly, family feel and the staff could not do enough to help. Would recommend this hotel and will definitely stay again.
Review 128:The bedrooms could just do with a freshen up (which is scheduled to be done soon) but were still very clean and comfortable.
Review 129:The leisure facilities are great. The service in the bar and restaurant were both superb.
Review 130:Staff and facilities were great. Lovely rooms . We enjoyed the carvery for my Dad's 90th Birthday who lives nearby. The pool was a bonus and will be back to enjoy the golf and spa.
Review 131:Toilet flush proved to be a problem.
Review 132:Room was very good, bed was perfect and bathroom had every thing you could want. Food both for dinner and breakfast was excellent.
Review 133:The rooms are a little dated but clean. More than made up by the fantastic facilities inclusing large pool, 2 golf courses, driving range, spa and squash courts. An added bonus!
Review 134:The leisure and spa facilities are excellent as is the customer service and setting
Review 135:The room service food was not very good. The choice was limited with no healthy option.
Review 136:Everything (apart from the food) was great and we love staying at Belton Woods
Review 137:Lovely attentive staff and very comfortable place to stay with good leisure facilities. Excellent garden centre next door, National Trust Belton house across road with parkland and childrens adventure playground. Downtown shopping facility 1mile away.
Review 138:Minor niggle - I use debit cards only and card details were taken at reception when I booked in. I bought a round of drinks for family and friends only to be told by the bar staff I could not put it on the room bill because there was no credit on my account - highly embarrassing but fortunately I had sufficient cash to cover the cost. Had I been staying on a business trip, my opinion of this would have been more scathing.
Review 139:Superb service with a positive and helpful attitude from all staff. Carvery excellent (although I believe it is only put on when there are sufficient guests resident). Wonderful looking pool complex but unfortunately did not have time to enjoy it. Heating / cooling in rooms very efficient. Bed very comfortable and so large I needed a sat nav to find my way around it!
