Reviews for Hallmark Hotel The Welcombe
Review 1:We had one problem with a meal but the staff did give us a price reduction. The service could be a bit smarter.
Review 2:The Spa is excellent and the food is to a high standard with one exception.
Review 3:Excellent location for Stratford on Avon. We were quite disappointed. Large Black Hair in my wife's dinner first night! Chaotic ordering for all 3 breakfast's. Cobwebs in the dining room. Open fire on only once during our 3 day stay. Large crack in the washbasin room 308. Lovely Spa. Lovely grounds and location. We won't be back.
Review 4:Spa was sooooo packed. No free lounge chairs. Kids running around. Felt like a market!! Restaurant. Ran out of bread and cakes at breakfast. Evening desert wait was 45 minutes. Both nights our food choice got mixed up. Food was nice once we got it though.
Review 5:Loved the gardens. The room was amazing with a stunning view. Reception staff very polite and welcoming.
Review 6:The hotel was too hot and we could not turn the heat down in our room so we did not sleep well. The pillows were uncomfortable
Review 7:The health suite was amazing, food delicious and the overall look of the hotel was perfect
Review 8:Rooms weren't very sound proof, could hear all of conversations from next door and we were woken up by their shower each morning.
Review 9:Swimming pool and spa facilities were brilliant. Also very beautiful building and lovely to be able to walk straight out the car park into fantastic countryside.
Review 10:Door key cards repeatedly failed. Immediately rectified on visit to reception.
Review 11:Requested room overlooking formal garden which was fulfilled - brilliant.
Review 12:The apartment was very hot when we arrived but soon was adjusted.
Review 13:The apartment was lovely with the room being clean, warm and lots of facilities within the room to use to ensure we had a great stay. Staff were attentive. Breakfast was excellent with lots of choices. We had afternoon tea for a birthday treat which was define especially the scones. The spa was wonderful to distress in with various facilities such as steam/sauna room and foot spa - worth a visit.
Review 14:The afternoon tea was OK, one to share between two is more than enough - it just could have been put together better, it just felt like it as been thrown together tbh. Needs some refinement I think.
Review 15:The spa is modern, well appointed and well maintained. Sitting by the gigantic fireplace was great- just what was needed on a cold and blustery evening. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. I imagine the immense gardens would be nice to walk through during spring/ summer months.
Review 16:Checked in late but still had excellent service throughout. Suite was roomy and immaculate, the Mac computer a bonus. Spa facilities superb, I was the only one in the pool! Breakfast delicious! Thankyou we will be back in the summer to enjoy the garden.
Review 17:Had problems checking in as they couldn't find our reservation but this was quickly dealt with efficiently. The restaurant is very small so if you want to eat there you must book ahead.
Review 18:Beautiful hotel and very attentive staff. Rooms large and airy and the spa was something special.
Review 19:Bad smell in corridor en route to our room.
Review 20:Lovely comfortable surroundings and excellent service. Interesting fellow guests. Loved the swimming pool and appreciated restricted children times, although the children generally were polite and well-behaved.
Review 21:We paid for a king size room and received a tiny tiny little room on the ground floor. It did have a large bed but the room itself was very small, also bathroom was very old and not particularly appealing.
Review 22:Hotel looks beautiful on the outside and in the communal areas like restaurant, bar, lounge.
Review 23:Unfortunately at £290 per night (admittedly on new years eve) I was expecting better service and attention to detail than we did.
Review 24:Location and amenities.
Review 25:Slow bar staff, check out staff slow and no apologies for a 25 minute wait for check out. Too many children running around screaming in the hotel and spa. Have stayed here over 6 times and since the hotel has changed hands it is no longer a relaxing place.
Review 26:Room sizes, spa facilities
Review 27:Staff wasn't very helpful and had a very bad attention span.. Food variety was limited and not great.
Review 28:Facilities at the hotel was great, location was great and
Review 29:We looked online at what we thought was the restaurant menu and we were looking forward to the choices on there, but when we got to the restaurant it was completely different and not much choice at all so we were disappointed by this.
Review 30:We enjoyed some quiet downtime together over Christmas. The afternoon tea and room service was lovely.
Review 31:Looking forward to our yearly spa treat post Christmas, on arrival at 6.30pm we were told there was not a room available as the hotel was fully booked. We had booked our room 2 months earlier and were not given any notice of unavailability, remaining completely unaware until time of check in. On the contrary we received 'countdown' info from Booking.com 7 days before arrival date.
Review 32:The customer service from the hotel manager Mr Marek Grzyb was exemplary
Review 33:The gym and spa area are great. The breakfast was good. Dinner was nice but portion sizes on the small side. We had a nice view from our room but I wish the room itself had had more character. The setting is lovely.
Review 34:The mattress I slept on was extremely soft and sunken in... Woke up with a very sore back. Told reception staff and sadly was not offered any compensation.
Review 35:Excellent location and facilities within the apartment. i would book here again, though I would check the mattresses prior to accepting an apartment.
Review 36:The pictures I wasn't shown on bookings.com wasn't anything likethe room I got. Felt disappointed as I went for the higher price roombut wasn't anything like the pictures.
Review 37:Lovely grounds,lovely room.
Review 38:We booked this as a honeymoon treat. I asked for a room with a move view and got a room with a brick wall in the Window and a shower that was broken. We were moved to another room with two single beds that were moved together. We were soo tired and fed up we decided to stay. The spa facilities were not working properly. We them had a call whilst we're in bed relaxing and the receptionist called and immediately began to say " we've had a complaint that there is noise coming from your room and if you don't turn it down I will have to ask you to leave" . As you an imagine this was the icing on the cake. I went ballistic, she apologised and said she got the wrong room. However this was not acceptable. She did not try to have a conversation but instead rand making demands. An absolutely awful stay. Soo disappointed
Review 39:The spa however the steam room was not working promptly during our stay
Review 40:I think his name was Connor from the gym/reception. Hated his job and wasn't afraid to say it.
Review 41:The standards of room and the spa area was lovely.
Review 42:The room was not prepared and was of a very poor standard complained at reception and was told the manager would phone me it never happened would never stay here again.
Review 43:Breakfast was acceptable
Review 44:Service at dinner was poor, we were a group of 8, we were rushed into getting into the restaurant and the waiter was very keen for us to order on a form, rather than him taking down our orders. We were also rushed into leaving the restaurant as the "Kitchen was closing", despite the fact only cheese was being requested as a dessert. Service was a bit chaotic, as staff couldn't remember who had ordered what, and which dishes were rare vs medium. A bit unfortunate as we were entertaining important clients.
Review 45:Excellent location, nice rooms, public area's nicely furnished, breakfast very nice and the food at the evening meal was good, if not the service
Review 46:Golf was poor - slimy mud everywhere following rain on previous day. If you can't drain it - don't open it!
Review 47:Professional, friendly and courteous staff. Lovely hotel with excellent spa facilities.
Review 48:We stayed in the apartments for a change. They were beautifully decorated and equipped. The spa is excellent. We have stayed at the hotel many times before and always find it excellent.
Review 49:Everything was fine, a little noise early morning as the room overlooked the service area.
Review 50:Comfortable, warm, good bar staff, good food and nice bedroom.
Review 51:Bar staff in the hotel not very friendly. breakfast table too small for party of 6.
Review 52:The staff in the spa were superb especially those providing treatments. Concierge in hotel also very helpful.
Review 53:We were put it an apartment away from the hotel. This was nice and quiet and we weren't disturbed by other guests, who were celebrating Xmas. Staff were very pleasant, especially Steven on reception.
Review 54:The room card was hard to use and didn't always work. The bedroom and the hotel throughout were too hot.
Review 55:Breakfast was good. Staff were friendly. The porter was a pleasant, really nice chap.
Review 56:some breakfast bowl cereal plates were filthy, I think I had to look for the less dirty one and after looking really hard I found one
Review 57:Everything else were fantastic
Review 58:nothing
Review 59:lovely location, food great, plenty of parking space, good walk to town. plenty of parking in Stratford. For a night or weekend away its ideal. Set in lovely parkland. Gardens a bit run down.
Review 60:Excellent facilities; bedrooms to a very high standard; lovely food and very good conference facilities. Will look at coming back again for future events.
Review 61:Welcome I recievec for an early check in was awful Room average Breakfast average £148 per night was not good value & I had better service, food & experience at the premier Inn
Review 62:Spa & the lovely Parisian barman
Review 63:Staff were the best part, they were so friendly and welcoming it would make any stay pleasurable! The hotel itself, truely beautiful and full of history and character. Yet with a iMac in every room you still had more modern twists that you wouldn't expect. Highly recommend and we will return.
Review 64:Avoid Room 118 - it's out on a staircase on its own and was so noisy from the courtyard outside and a function room at the bottom of the staircase. Staff at checkout were little interested in if we'd had a good stay or not.
Review 65:Great hotel with excellent facilities including a spa. Find a deal online otherwise paying for everything seperately works out expensive.
Review 66:There was a party at the hotel and the music was so loud that it kept us awake well past the midnight. Not what you expect when you go for a relaxing spa weekend. The people attending the party should be accommodated nearby the event and rest of the hotel guests could be placed further away. Sadly all our treatments were cancelled with hours notice on the day of departure due to 2 therapist unable to work and I'm still waiting for the spa manager to contact us to confirm the free treatments we were offered for the inconvenience of last minute cancellations.
Review 67:Amazing building with large rooms and public areas to relax. Breakfast with a view and good choice of produce.
Review 68:Nothing that wasn't sorted - superb staff!!
Review 69:The location is fantastic, rooms very comfortable. The staff are the main asset - friendly and helpful.
Review 70:Property is outdated and in need of upkeep or renovation. Our mattress had significant depressions. The carpet and furniture showed years of wear
Review 71:Beautiful property, and great location
Review 72:Signage was very poor between the hotel and the timeshare so when you haven't been before it is confusing
Review 73:very relaxed and comfortable surroundings staff more than helpful
Review 74:The cold bath tap didn't work it just drips and was so looking forward to having a nice bath! Kettle broke in the morning so no cup of tea in bed! The fan kept coming on and off in the night!
Review 75:Bed was comfortable and big enough!
Review 76:On the last night we were kept waiting a long time for food in the bar because of a technical failure. This was however dealt with professionally and politely.
Review 77:We thought that the spa was first class. We excellent service in the bar from Tony. The whole ambience of the hotel is first class.
Review 78:Have been here before and in comparison to other times would say we preferred it when you could have either a buffet breakfast or order a specific breakfast at no extra cost. This time only buffet breakfast was available, coffee took ages to come and toast appeared after we had finished breakfast. Disappointed that the fire was not lit. The living room is usually cosy & inviting to sit in and read. Bathroom looked like it could do with the tiles being refreshed/refurbed...same goes for tiles in the spa...outdoor pool particularly. Jacuzzi was not working. Aircon unit in bedroom was faulty and noisy.
Review 79:Manager, receptionists, night porter, domestic & spa staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was tasty.Bedroom was clean. Good reading matter available everywhere.
Review 80:Noisy at night , apartment right behind swimming baths very noisy swimming pool running gear very noisy! Even with Windows shut tight kept us awake first night but second night slept but for £200 a night not what you expect
Review 81:Spa and pool awesome
Review 82:Tatty bathroom. Handles falling off of shower on 117. Extremely hot. Had to jam windows open with a coat hanger as they didn't stay open. Still extremely hot. Didn't sleep because of noise from open windows from staff working at 4 am.
Review 83:Beautiful hotel and grounds. Good breakfast.
Review 84:got woken by people in next room 12.15 am showers sounded like someone drilling next door. air con woke us up at midnight with a loud humming for 20 mins. hotel room very poor for price.had a lot better.
Review 85:The apartment we stayed in was stunning. However, it was extremely hot! The rooms were all of a very high standard (the main bathroom and en-suite were stunning) although if you stayed in the basement bedroom you needed to go up two flights of stairs! It could have been better planned with either a toilet on the ground floor (the storage cupboard could have accommodated one quite easily) or a small en-suite in the basement. The swimming pool was only available for use by children between 10 & 12 and 3 and 5 which may not always fit in with plans.
Review 86:This is a stunning hotel (we stayed in a 3 bedroom apartment) in beautiful surroundings. It's very close to the centre of Stratford and not far from Warwick (we visited the castle). There is a lovely spa with a pool, sauna, steam room etc which we took advantage of too. A buffet breakfast with table service was provided and this was of a high standard. I would highly recommend this hotel.
Review 87:Some of the staff just couldn't complete a simple task. Asking for loose normal sugar and getting cubed. Asking for extra pillows for a spinal condition and getting two cushions shoved into a pillow case.
Review 88:The spa facilities and our room.
Review 89:Nothing terrible but little niggles that took the shine off the whole experience a bit. Cleaning in the room wasn't spotless, the food at dinner was a little disappointing compared to previous trips, the staff didn't seem to be as on top of things as they were previously, a bit less caring.
Review 90:3rd time there for us so we love the place. Booked a room in the main house, it was huge and gorgeous, nice to see how the other half used to live!
Review 91:No bad experience , but we did feel that the corridors looked neglected, the décor of our room was seriously dated. We lived in Solihull until 10 years ago---and used to come for a weekend breakfast from time to time. In our opinion, even in these times, we felt that there were dated furnishings in the lounge next to the dining room --very gloomy !
Review 92:We appreciated the deal that we were given, and staff were courteous . We enjoyed the breakfasts, --can't speak about other meals ,since we did not try any.
Review 93:We were at a private party and there weren't enough puddings for all guests. Originally told there were no more puddings or fruit. After much to and fro and pointing out to all staff, more puddings were brought out. Not a good advert for a prestigious and large hotel and difficult for guests at private party.
Review 94:Beautiful grounds, spa and breakfast
Review 95:Staff were really friendly and service was excellent - didn't matter who served you, from the lady on reception to the bar staff everyone was friendly and helpful. food was excellent too.
Review 96:2 of the Windows did not close due to broken catches, there was no complementary water, the bathroom consessions had been topped up rather than replaced with new, the room was surrounded by air con units that were noisy in the dead of night. Soft furnishings missing from one window. The furniture in the lounge was old fashioned and worn. The bar was under staffed and although the hotel wasn't busy you had to wait far too long for service. Staff would benefit from some customer service training and nobody asked us if we had a nice stay after 3 nights and spending over £800!
Review 97:Location was good and room (Hathaway suite) was a good size and nicely appointed. Bed was comfortable and was reasonable value at £185 a night. Spa was small but adequate
Review 98:The cost of the room for the night was very expensive and the food was not quite up to the standard that a high priced hotel could command.
Review 99:The location was great and the history of the hotel and how it came to be built.
Review 100:We stayed in the new part of the hotel and it's obvious that the building work has been done a bit on the cheap - the light switches, next to the bed can be heard quite clearly being turned on and off, conversations also and the footsteps across the room from the floor above. If you are a light sleeper then the sound of other guests arriving to their rooms later than you will probably keep you awake. The air conditioning came on automatically at about 7am sounding like a jet engine, waking me up a bit earlier than I wanted. It's somewhere else next time.
Review 101:It looks like a great.
Review 102:Staff at breakfast along with the breakfast. Lack of attention to detail. All used plates remained on pur table, nobody came to clean them away, many pieces missing, yoghurts, fruits . Replenishment of hot food limited . A long wait
Review 103:Spa, view, the look of the property
Review 104:Poor condition, room phone didn't work, no mobile signal in the room, the hotel has poor maintenance and is priced too high by 40% Hotel is 3* in it's current condition.
Review 105:Food & Staff
Review 106:This place is just old English luxury typified and at a very reasonable price considering you have access to all the Spa facilities - pool, spa, sauna, gym etc. The rooms were great and the bed was fantastic. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent. While it seems a bit out of town, there is a path through the fields and nature reserve that takes about 20 min to walk into town.
Review 107:Not much view from the window, unatentive staff on one morning at breakfast, not a good selection of evening meals
Review 108:Location, grounds, spa, size of room, facilities,
Review 109:Bathroom needed attention w.c seat broken, plug not attached to sink. Public rooms need updating. On arrival reception not good, restaurant staff rather aprupt
Review 110:Lovely old building and gardens
Review 111:That we didn't spend enough time in the hotel!
Review 112:Amazing grounds with gorgeous garden and comfortable luxury rooms. Friendly staff and excellent breakfast!
Review 113:There was a wedding on during our stay and unfortunately there was lots of banging and nuisance in the night which disturbed our sleep which did put a huge damper on the stay for us as it was our anniversary.
Review 114:Hotel great and staff grear
Review 115:I thought the evening meal was a little expensive for what you had, however the breakfast was very good.
Review 116:the room was excellent and was upgraded from what we booked. the view was fantastic from the room.
Review 117:it was a bit busy due to back to back weddings so was a bit noisy when we wanted a quiet drink at the bar.
Review 118:Fantastic place to stay and location. The spa is excellent.
Review 119:Absolutely nothing.........:))
Review 120:Having stayed in many hotels throughout the UK this hotel is now on our shortlist of favourites. You know that the staff here care when you see the manager rearranging the cushions on the sofas in the drawing room just to make the place look nice !! Its called attention to detail .......superb building, gardens, rooms (we stayed in Room 110 The Loxley Room), big comfy bed (4 poster),lovely Spa / Swimming pool........unusually for us we even extended our stay we loved it so much and we'll be back again very soon......well done to the manager and all his staff 10/10 Keep it up !!
Review 121:there was nothing we disliked except leaving
Review 122:hotel was in a beautiful location, it was like staying in a stately home with modern facilities, staff very efficient and the receptionist was lovely
Review 123:If you're a light sleeper ask for a room at the back. We had a ground floor room at front and could hear all deliveries being made to spa and hotel at 5am.
Review 124:Staff really helpful and friendly. Spa facilities excellent.
Review 125:We had a basic room so anticipated the room would be plainer and have no view. But there was also considerable noise outside our window in the early morning as the staff prepared for the day. The bathroom suite was technically clean but did have unsightly black mould.
Review 126:The setting, views and grounds are magnificent and wonderful to enjoy before or after meals. The Spa facilities are also outstanding - the pool is light and spacious and glorious for a visit before breakfast.
Review 127:On arrival, our children had their own check-in desk which they loved, especially when they were presented with a goodie bag. Hotel and grounds are stunning, lovely to walk around and admire. All staff were so accommodating and friendly - will definitely go back.
Review 128:No telephone signal (basement room)
Review 129:Staff were excellent; facilities are really good and lovely quiet location 1.5 miles from Stratford. Apple TV was very good, breakfast excellent with vast choice.
Review 130:I booked this hotel for my parent to stay in as part of their 60th birthday celebrations. They were absolutely besotted with the whole ambiance, setting and service. When I called I. Regards to the booking the staff couldn't be more accommodating, making things extra special from my parents like arranging chocolates and a card in their room and arranging a table by the window for evening meal. The small extra touch made for an extra special weekend. Thank you to all the staff!
Review 131:The staff service could be better. They should have a unique proposition of service from the reception to spa. People on the Spa should be more courteous and present the Spa instead of just checking the guest.
Review 132:Very posh envoronment, you feel like royalty.
Review 133:Breakfast buffet was average and service was mixed. Room service menu was limited.
Review 134:Location and views. Staff on room service. Suite size and quality of furniture and equipment.
Review 135:We ordered the fish sharing platter and I was a little dissapointed. None of it was fresh. The crab was tinned and the prawns and crayfishlooked like they were from a frozen Iceland bag.
Review 136:The spa facilities were excellent and the room was cosy, comfy and gorgeous.
Review 137:Staff are lovely but appear to be under pressure as it seems as if the hotel is under staffed.
Review 138:Loved the settings and the traditioal style decor of the old Manor house.
