Reviews for Billesley Manor Hotel - The Hotel Collection

Review 1:On a freezing night the tall rooms in the old house are a little on the cold side - but don't let that put you off the overall experience.

Review 2:An amazing experience, stepping into history going back centuries. Travellers from the US, if you are visiting this area you must stay here.

Review 3:Not much Xmas atmosphere....would have been nice to have had Xmas carols /music on in background in bar and breakfast room. We were not part of the weekend package and felt a bit alienated when asking for food from the bar ... Bar staff had no clue as to food on the menu... Due to lack of atmosphere decided to eat in our room. Food was very nice when arrived though. May be a merry Xmas in the morning would have been nice too from staff.... Or maybe i was just expecting too much. I wouldn't stay at Xmas again. Still a lovely manor.

Review 4:Stayed on Xmas eve. nice little touch of stocking on door Xmas morning . Very sweet made me smile.

Review 5:Staff removed our glasses of wine from the table before we had finished them. They were a bit too keen to clear up...

Review 6:The feeling of history about the house. The pictures and the information about the house were very interesting.

Review 7:The staff were either miserable or over the top gushing! The music playing in restaurant was church music which was a little grating in the end.

Review 8:Bed comfortable and nice scenery

Review 9:Our room was in a barn conversion, it was cold during the night and early morning. The room was clean, bed comfortable but decor was more budget than 4star and configuration of furnishings both in bedroom and bathroom did not facilitate different requirements of use.

Review 10:The hotel was attractive and the grounds, even in November were pleasant and well maintained

Review 11:The hotel had overbooked on the Saturday night so breakfast the next morning was chaos; piles if unused dishes, not enough food, queues of people etc. Hotel looks tired and needs refurbishing; it's history is impressive but other guests commented on decor, carpets et al. We were disappointed; wasn't value for money compared to other places we have stayed near Stratford upon Avon.

Review 12:Good location; spa and swimming facilities

Review 13:Can't think of anything

Review 14:Excellent stay at billesley manor, this is our second visit with many more to follow, the room we were given was second to none, staff all polite and professional, food excellent.

Review 15:The hotel lacks a lift, and our only criticism is that for elderly and less mobile guests the stairs are a bit of a struggle. However there are plenty of easy access rooms in annexes.

Review 16:Wonderful setting in beautiful countryside in Autumn finery. Good car parking. Very comfortable hotel. Beautiful spacious room.. great evening meals, and sumptuous breakfast. Great value for money. Intelligent sensitive staff, attentive but discrete. Very impressive duty manager - Freddy(?) She made our trip with a very sensible intervention to resolve an issue. We were very impressed

Review 17:Good hear the music from below started up at 7a.m

Review 18:We got married in Stratford and stayed here on our wedding night. Our room was amazing absolutely huge. It has an old historic feel to it all, lovely gardens

Review 19:I was extremely disappointed by my stay this was a special treat for my birthday and I was bitterly disappointed to be staying in the annexe building in a gloomy characterless room with poor facilities- I could not hang up my dresses as hanging space was only suitable for shirts above a desk top. it was not made clear when booking that all standard rooms are in the annexe- this would be fair enough IF the quality of the annexe could match the manor house- I may as well have been staying in a travel lodge! the breakfast was of poor quality- no marmalade available for the English breakfast and a very poor selection of cereals and fruits. The service at breakfast was poor- 10mins for our hot drinks order to arrive on both days Overall this was not worth the money that we paid and my son had a much better experience in a local B&B in Stratford for 1/2 the cost I would not stay here again or recommend it to a soul I spoke to the reception staff on 2 occasions and was essentially fobbed off with no explanation or offers of any form of compensation or attempt to enhance my stay. It was a disappointment from beginning to end.

Review 20:nice gardens

Review 21:Being told the Hotel Bar does not shut early which it does, the staff then being most unhelpfull when trying to order a last round of drinks not whats expected when your paying a reasonably expensive room rate

Review 22:Good locaion for the heart of England and stunning countryside all around.

Review 23:There didn't seem anywhere quiet and relaxing to sit in the evening after our meal, without being surrounded by noisy businessmen.

Review 24:Convenient Location to visit family and travel into Stratford

Review 25:Very poor greeting on arrival and generally staff lacked hospitality. Only spoke when spoken too. Made us feel like second class citizens. Given very poor substitute rooms because our friends couldn't manage the stairs. Given a small room with no wardrobe! Wouldn't recommend seems only interested in corporate guests/conferences.

Review 26:Nice location.

Review 27:Drinks were very expensive. £17.40 for a brandy and Coke and pint of carlsberg.

Review 28:Beautiful hotel in a great location. Immaculately clean with a real old English feel.

Review 29:The room was 'travel lodge' standard and in an out building separate from the hotel.

Review 30:The views and location. The breakfast was also plentiful and nice

Review 31:would have been better to have a ramp between bedroom & bathroom rather than a step as although there is a sign above the door I didn't notice until after I fell down it. Also difficult at night

Review 32:Building was amazing, room very nice, food excellent

Review 33:Our stay was unfortunately quite short, however it was extremely enjoyable, all the staff were pleasant and helpful. The hotel whilst having plenty of character was quiet, comfortable.and very picturesque.

Review 34:Having to leave!

Review 35:The generous size of the accommodation. It was well laid out and very comfortable. The grounds are fantastic especially as we had a pet with us. Plenty of parking is also a plus. I will be booking again shortly for November.

Review 36:-very poor standard of room -we thought we were going to be in the main house but got sent outside to a conference facility -very poor value for money, the room was worth £70 not £135! -rooms not as advertised -we ended up leaving 20 mins after arrival and getting a refund

Review 37:staff tried to help us but they couldn't as they had no other rooms available

Review 38:but if your in the new part the walls are very thin and you can hear everything in the next rooms from talking to the hairdryer so be aware ..

Review 39:Location staff and facilities. .

Review 40:Noisy wedding party, when we went away for a quiet retreat.

Review 41:The Location was very good and the staff were excellent, Help my wife with her dietary requirements.

Review 42:For a 4 star hotel, very disappointed with the breakfast. I would expect the breakfast to be cooked fresh. It was cold and tasteless and only what seemed was a side plate to be had.

Review 43:The room was good

Review 44:It was a little bit cramped on the area they use for breakfast

Review 45:The staff were very good. The receptionist could see I had mobility problems and when I asked about the swimming pool got our room moved to opposite the gym.

Review 46:Hotel room very disappointing. We appreciate we booked a standard room but expected something bigger than a broom cupboard. Woken at 7.45am by vacuuming in next room. As it was a Sunday breakfast was served until 11am. Service at breakfast very poor. Received coffee and tea halfway through meal and asked on four occasions for extra hot water before it arrived. Would definitely not return to this hotel.

Review 47:Location and building and grounds

Review 48:No Lifts to your room. Narrow stairtcases making it difficult with bags. Dated rooms. No airconditioning. Attempted to charge us for a call made from our room which we did not make. Costs were high compared to the facilities offered.

Review 49:Location was very scenic. Excellent Shower.

Review 50:Asked for early check in as we were going to a wedding. Found out that this was only a request and not confirmed. Price of room seemed a bit high for quality of furnishings.

Review 51:Staff were helpful when room wasn't ready. Room was prepared ASAP.

Review 52:Unclear when the booking was made as to what type of room you'd actually booked. The rooms didn't match the exterior. The atmosphere was lacking in the public areas and sometimes hostile between fellow guests over silly things such as music.staff not overly helpful.

Review 53:The setting, the exterior view and grounds. The breakfast was very nice and the actual breakfast staff the nicest in the hotel.

Review 54:The carpet in the room was very grubby and needs cleaning or replacing. The bed and pillows were very uncomfortable. The bathroom extractor fan was very noisey. The receptionist was very unhelpful.

Review 55:The location and building were lovely

Review 56:Breakfast. The cleanliness of the communal tables was poor. There was an ongoing shortage of plates, bowls and food items such as fried eggs. As a result I ordered scrambled eggs and toast and had to send it back, the chef clearly thought serving cold and rubbery scrambled eggs that had clearly been sitting in a pan for some time was acceptable. Based on the breakfast service I would not stay here again.

Review 57:Dinner - fantastic food, wine and service.

Review 58:We requested an early check-in but as you couldn't confirm the day before we arrived ready for a wedding.would of been nice to of got ready at the hotel.

Review 59:Everything

Review 60:Staff could have been more proffesional. Our welcome could have been much better considering its in one of the top hotel groups. Also, felt the bar to be lacking in atmosphere. Needed some background music. The young bar man counting up the takings in one of the chairs where guests were sitting wasnt proffesional at all.

Review 61:Great last minute stop over. Incredible building. The room we were allocated had a problem with the lock. After several trips to reception and trying different keys, the receptionist eventually upgraded us to a fantastic room up in the eaves. Good move!

Review 62:We were Rudely awoken on the day off checkout at 08:50 by housekeepingwanting to clean the room!!!!! This Was Unacceptable and WasCommunicated to reception who offered a paltry 10% discount. Upondiscussing this on our journey home I complained direct to BillersleyManor who offered a further 30% discount and and a £75 stay includingbreakfast for the same as our booking for 2 nights!!!!!!! I respondedseeking further clarification & have heard Nothing at all !!!!!Please Investigate!!!!!

Review 63:Coming Home!!!!!

Review 64:I think the hotel should make it much clearer on their Website that standard rooms are very like those found in a Travelodge ! We felt a bit let down by the size and style of our room - it didn't seem to fit with the character of the Hotel - which was imposing and historic.

Review 65:The meal that we ate in the Stuart Restaurant was absolutely delicious.

Review 66:The bed was not a comfortable one - the mattress is too bouncy and so disturbs the sleep of your partner when you move.

Review 67:Overall a very nice hotel. The Spa and pool areas are very nice, as are the gardens. Quite a long and winding walk to some of the rooms.

Review 68:Bar service at lunchtime disinterested. Breakfast very disappointing - Wife asked for poached eggs - received 1 poached egg and 1 poached egg white. I asked for scrambled egg - overcooked and dry. No bacon left, run out of butter. Standard room decor tired and faded.

Review 69:Location and grounds beautiful. Comfortable bed.

Review 70:Good quality breakfast but not hot.we had a standard room which was small. The fan in bathroom didn't work and the net curtains I needed binning . All of which I reported to Duty manager. Who I have to say was very pleased to be told and was going to rectify.

Review 71:Location to Stratford and park&ride. Beautiful surroundings.

Review 72:when the room we had for my mum was clearly unsuitable due to the very steep and winding stairs they moved us into the barn which was much more suitable for my mum on the ground floor

Review 73:Bedroom was in an add on building poorly furnished. Rotten mouldy bath panel general shabby room. In the corridor facing the pool. Very overpriced. The whole hotel needs major tlc. . Cancelled dinner and decided to eat in Stratford. Best decision as next day lots of people complained about the food. Many other people complained about their rooms and general poor state.

Review 74:Gave us 50% refund after complaining about the shabby state of our room.

Review 75:Some décor tiered i.e carpets worn marking on walls in room but appeared clean. Over expensive drinks in bar.

Review 76:Staff polite and professional. Went some way to fulfil diet needs gluten free cornflakes available but no bread so take your own just in case. Hotel had been informed about diet but not really up to speed on passing information to kitchen or staff.

Review 77:breakfast on Sunday very slow had to re order tea and coffee three times. Bar food needs some attention. Room wasn't very clean and no Wi-Fi in the room

Review 78:Beautiful setting, staff very helpful.

Review 79:Room was very hot and would benefit from a fitted fan or even better, air con. Also , it faced the courtyard in close proximity to the catering facility , which proved to be noisy into the night and early morning .

Review 80:Everything else and would happily visit again , my above comments considered .

Review 81:First room I was given was awful. Dark gloomy with a tiny window no better than a refurbished travelodge.

Review 82:Excellent room but had to ask to move from original room.

Review 83:Friendly staff, especially helpful with our young baby. Spa facilities good, including decent pool. Breakfast also good and nice general feel to the place.

Review 84:We were placed in an annex which I had not appreciated on booking. The room was clean and modern but not to my taste, open wardrobe. A wedding party also swamped the bar and the staff had trouble coping with their demands leaving residents like us wanting.

Review 85:The hotel and grounds are stunning.

Review 86:I had problems with the shower but t hat was a very minor detail

Review 87:The whole atmosphere of the place. The peace and quiet , the gardens, the helpful staff

Review 88:We were put in a converted barn which wasn't joined to the main hotel and our room was right next to the ses pit. There was a terrible smell and the ses pit clearly needed attention. We advised the reception of this but had no apology and no communication after for the rest of our stay. Our window in our room was broken so we couldn't conceal the smell to outside and it was seeping into our room. Night time was not pleasant. Our shower in our room was broken and the temperature control panel was a screw. The temperature was very hit and miss. Whilst staying at the hotel there were 2 weddings on two separate evenings and on both occasions the prices at the bar increased considerably compared to the other evenings, this was not warned. They even ran out of glasses!!

Review 89:The location of the hotel was beautiful and most of the staff were very friendly and polite. The facilities of the spa were great and always clean.

Review 90:The standard room does not resemble the room on the web site.

Review 91:Disappointed with standard room did not resemble the standard room on the web site. However did receive a double up grade which was then the same as the standard room advertised on the web site. Beware

Review 92:Attitude of desk staff on arrival. After lengthy drives, myself and other guests were greeted with the fact that the computer system had crashed. We were informed that we couldn't check in, therefore, and were left waiting around. When we complained, suggesting that surely there should be some backup paper system, the young lady on the desk became very defensive and stroppy. It would have diffused the situation had she tried to show some empathy. Most unimpressive and showed a lack of customer training and awareness. Food in bar was mediocre, blandly presented and overpriced. Sparse and limp salad accompaniment. Breakfast was like something out of Fawlty Towers. Had to queue to get in, hot drinks orders were taken and the failed to materialise, despite the fact that a young man was wandering around with a tray of tea and coffee, seemingly unable to match them up to guests! Supplies of fruit, pastries and yogurts gone. The only saving grace was the restaurant manageress who was actually very efficient but didn't have the trained staff to back her up. My double bedroom ( no. 29), although large, was soul-less and looked out at the kitchen and what was optimistically referred to as 'the rose garden.' Communal corridors were scruffy with threadbare carpets. A bit depressing. I was left feeling that I had spent a lot of money for not very much.

Review 93:Appearance of Manor House from outside, location, the topiary.

Review 94:Food fell short on the third night.

Review 95:Very pleasant setting. Staff generally friendly and attentive with some doing that bit extra to make it special. Food outstanding on first two nights.

Review 96:The evening meal was fine but not great and the dessert menu was boring. Wi fi problems in some areas.

Review 97:Bedroom very comfortable and clean. Spa lovely but pool very busy as children's pool play extended because it was half term. Still plenty of opportunity to use the pool around these times....just something to be aware of if you don't have children with you.

Review 98:Pathetic staff who could not care less. Food portions are a joke so have something to eat before you have dinner! Overpriced and the cold "hot" breakfast items were a joy, who doesn't like cold fried eggs and mushrooms, yuck. Waited 15 minutes for the sweet menu, what a waste of time that was. We will not be back. Public rooms, (Library & Drawing Room) hired out to an event and were not available to us. Trickle of water from tap in wash basin took forever to fill. I could go on but I won't , if you want a Basil Fawlty experience come here, but its not funny, go elsewhere- anywhere

Review 99:The building was fantastic to look at and room was lovely with a great view. Nice swimming pool and grounds.

Review 100:Slightly disappointed with the Breakfast as it was advertised as Al a Carte for 14.95gbp which looked good, but on arrival it was a fairly simple buffet selection, (for the same price).

Review 101:Beautiful old property approx 5 minutes drive from Stratford Upon Avon. Has the added benefit of having a indoor swimming pool, Sauna, steam room and gym. My room was very clean and large and overall good value for money. Would definitely stay there again and upgrade to a four poster room and take the wife.

Review 102:Wedding party on the Saturday music over the top did not sleep well, could have been avoided with moving our room before we even arrived. Won't go again, poor management

Review 103:Nice location and impressive architecture and surroundings, also staff very helpful

Review 104:The wifi was problematic.

Review 105:This property and its grounds are beautiful. When we mention it was our one year anniversary, the manager upgraded us to a huge suite which was very special! Friendly staff and excellent breakfast!

Review 106:Lighting for mirrors to put make up on in standard room was abysmal. Bathroom sink is too far away from mirror to see what you're doing properly

Review 107:Friendly staff, beautiful grounds, great facilities. Stayed 1 night in standard room, basic but functional. 2nd night in deluxe was fantastic - massive difference.

Review 108:Must have had the worst room in the hotel. Friendly staff but lack of training. Poor management. Common parts look very tired and are smelly as are some of the staff.

Review 109:Not much. Certainly not of a 4* standard.

Review 110:I booked a deluxe room and really did not consider the attic room we were given in any way luxurious. Many steep and hazardous steps to climb and a formica bench to act as a dressing table. Nothing like the photos of deluxe rooms in the brochure. Not value for money in this regard!

Review 111:We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary with family and children. The children loved the grounds and the pool, We loved the fact that we were able to have the Drawing Room to ourselves to cut the cake etc.

Review 112:This was a special occasion and a glass of proseco was ordered on arrival in the bar and it was not chilled.

Review 113:The location and the grounds were nice. The building was very interesting and had lots of history. Very quiet and had a good nights sleep in a comfortable bed. The breakfast was most enjoyable and plenty of variety of food.

Review 114:WiFi options are very confusing. For such an expensive hotel I would have expected only one option and for that to be completely free. No I am charged for the fast broadband option and when I made the mistake of selecting the free option it was completely unusable. Unfortunately there was no way to revert the choice. Staff helpful but useless as they had no IT training. Hotel has no IT support line. So stuck on a business trip without usable Internet connection - therefore no work possible. Guess what I wasn't here for the fun of it. I will never stay there again.

Review 115:The lighting system was a bit hard to figure out at first, and we called the hotel staff and they thought it was the fuse. In the end, we figured out you have to turn on the switches on the walls before turning on the switches of each lamp!

Review 116:It is a very pretty place to visit. The location is also great for visitors to Stratford-Upon-Avon as well as other places in Cotswold. Overall, we liked our stay and we loved our rooms.

Review 117:Food was awful in the bar and the seating is not geared for food tables are too low the food was also very expensive

Review 118:Receptionist was excellent and tried her best to help

Review 119:Bedroom was very basic and restaurant has no a la carte offering. There was a fixed 3 course menu with three alternatives for each course. The food was however very good, but somewhat expensive.

Review 120:as above, the location, the gardens and nice spa

Review 121:Food menus not varied enough and quality was inconsistent. Common area were quite small and soon became noisy and packed when conference party were in attendance.

Review 122:Cleanliness of the room and bathroom, absolutely spotless. Location, grounds etc

Review 123:The changing facilities at the spa could do with upgrading. The ladies was very grotty and in need of some repairs. The shower handle came right off when I tried to turn it on.

Review 124:The hotel was lovely and very welcoming. The staff were very attentive. We went for a spa day and booked an overnight stay. The room was lovely and comfortable.

Review 125:The only thing Id say was a bit concerning was the price of the drinks and food.

Review 126:It was lovely to just escape from london life for a night! The location was nice and the hotel and spa was incredibly relaxing! My partner and I were both very happy!

Review 127:The evening meal was overpriced, wouldn't have been as bad if the price was told to customers before ordering.

Review 128:Everything, bar the price of the food.

Review 129:No prices on the menu which gave the impression of a set menu charge. However it cost over £100 for a meal for two in their restaurant. People should be aware of this.

Review 130:The food was very good so was the service

Review 131:Mould inside plastic shower strip Non working remote control for Tv UHT milk in the bedroom

Review 132:Diningrooms historic building. Food was very good indeed. Pleasant friendly staff

Review 133:The hotel was very very old. In desperate need of a face lift. The whole place needs gutting and renovating. I would not stay here again. The food was bad and overpriced. The bed was uncomfortable. It was super soft. If you lay too close to each other you would roll into each other...likewise if you lay too close to the edge you would fall off as the mattress is that flimsy and soft. The spa area was well equipped however the sauna was about 10-15 degrees too cold. More like a warm box. We had spa treatments and they were average at best. The massage room was freezing cold. Even after requesting the heat be turned up it was still freezing. My other treatments there were also average. I would not recommend making an appointment here. I would not stay here again.

Review 134:For us the location was fantastic. We were drawn in by this old style hotel and its amazing grounds/facilities.

Review 135:Asked for a receipt over the phone as at departure wasn't given one, I am still waiting for the e-mail. Phone in the room didn't seem to be able to connect to Reception.

Review 136:Nice atmosphere, friendly staff on the ground

Review 137:No access provided for prams or indeed wheelchairs. Really struggled with the pram. One downside with the staff, was the chap who worked on reception, he provided more assistance to somebody with two dogs than to a couple struggling to get their pram through the front door and down the steps. The hotel was really warm, leading to a poor nights sleep. Food was OK but nothing special and the carpets throughout the hotel looked as if they had seen better days.

Review 138:The staff were amazing. Pool was good but a little on the cold side. From the outside the hotel looks great.

Review 139:Poor view. Can't see mirror and use hairdryer at the same time. Short extention lead or mirror over table work sort it. Perhaps a woman should check out all the rooms?

Review 140:Nice big room shame about the view over a pile of rubble kitchen and laundry. Enjoyed leisure centre. Lovely getaway location

Review 141:There was a lip stick stain on glass when having breakfast. Breakfast foods and plates ran low quickly, however the staff rectified this. There was a slight tint of smells of a drain in our room and we were based in the outer buildings. However this smell came and went.

Review 142:Spacious family room with comfy beds. Polite staff. Good room service and house keeping. Lovely gardens / grounds for walks. Quiet location and relaxing. The manor house itself has a wonderful historical touch. Nice Spa facilities.

Review 143:The failure to deal with small tasks until matters were brought to the attention of Management. The quality and service of first meal was to say the least disgraceful. It has to be said however the Feneral Manager dealt with matters promptly. However what occurred should not have.

Review 144:Reception was excellent, the location is second to none. The response of Management first class.

Review 145:Breakfast on the first morning was very poor,it was the first time I have ever complained about breakfast in a hotel, improved slightly next morning

Review 146:The location was impressive, room we were allocated was huge, thanks to the receptionist
