Reviews for Penny Farthing Hotel & Cottages
Review 1:Breakfast staff were clearly under pressure as all guests landed at the same time. But good food and efficient service.
Review 2:Lovely friendly check in and check out - very warm and welcoming. Great room, 3 adults sharing, very spacious and well appointed. Hotel Manager/Front Desk were very happy to assist on a couple of requests
Review 3:There wasn't anything we didn't like, but if I was being picky, the decor is a little dated BUT everything is super clean.
Review 4:Great location, has parking, super friendly helpful staff, great breakfast, superb value for money.
Review 5:Uncomfortable bed, missing bulb in lamp, ridiculously limited breakfast, poor lighting in room. Wifi useless except for email checking.
Review 6:Nothing except parking
Review 7:nothing !!!!
Review 8:lovely bedroom. plenty of tea and coffee and milk comfortable bed friendly staff fantastic breakfast brilliant price easy to book great location
Review 9:Not able to shower because shower head was broken, creaking floorboard every were, decor somewhat dated and bathroom could have been cleaner.
Review 10:The breakfast was fine and the room was spacious.
Review 11:Not really anything of a bad experience but we were in a roof type room (sloping ceilings) which, being on the tall side, meant we had to be careful not to bash our heads. The road traffic was a bit on the noisy side when going to sleep (maybe the sound proofing could be better) The outlook was over the rooftops so, if you particularly want a good view, then nothing special to look out on.
Review 12:We didn't stay in the hotel for much of the day but it was clean and tidy and the staff were very nice, attentive and pleasant. Overall reasonably good for what we wanted, very good for high street accessibility. A bit overpriced.
Review 13:Loft room not good for tall people like myself Matress the most uncomfortable I've slept on requires renewing Breakfast nice but rushed
Review 14:Location
Review 15:tiny room with very uncomfortable bed and pillows, smell of gas which btw means something is wrong with heating system and very small shower cabin, sink in the room instead of bathroom, two tea cups in family room, narrow low ceiling corridors, nowhere to hang clothes or towels
Review 16:Wonderful location and pleasant staff
Review 17:The bed was really comfy and the staff were very friendly , even offered free water when I left as it was a hot day . Nice touch . Breakfast was lovely ..
Review 18:WiFi was non-existent in our bedroom but we could pick it up in the reception area. Also couldn't pick up an 02 signal in the bedroom I had to stand by the bathroom window (this was the same for other places in the village so must be a problem for the network in that location!)
Review 19:Great location to Lyndhurst village. Really friendly staff, extremely welcoming. Lovely breakfast which more than kept us going for the day. Bed was very comfortable and room had all we needed for our two night stay.
Review 20:Top floor room had angled ceilings which if you are tall makes showerering difficult. Also due to hotel being so close to the road the room shook when lorries went past which woke me and my 9 year old son up.
Review 21:Staff were very polite, Breakfast very tasty.
Review 22:Nothing
Review 23:What a relief, after travelling round the country and having a week of hotels that were nothing like as nice as they were supposed to be, or had dodgy or non existing wifi this hotel was a delight. Nice rooms, very clean, friendly staff, good wifi, great breakfast, decent parking Its not rocket science.
Review 24:For a higher price of £126 per night we expected some nicer things in our room such as a choice of milk, some hair conditioner, shouldn't have to fetch our water from reception. The shower room was a little grubby with what appeared to be snot wiped on the wall next to the toilet (previous guests pastime in seems) shower tray had mould tray to door closure. The room for the price was also too small. Having had our own B&B we would rate this rooms tarrif as a more acceptable price of £60 to £80. Sorry to have to say this as the owner is a lovely person but she needs to know.
Review 25:Helpful staff. Good car parking. Given some water for our journey home. The owner is a very jolly lady which made us feel very welcome indeed.
Review 26:Great location for Lyndhurst and the New Forest. Sufficient parking for all the guests in the hotel. Good breakfast including Black Pudding. Toffee Crisp and water for the journey home. Nice fast filling bath!
Review 27:next to the A35 so morning traffic woke us up, maybe an issue if you are normally used to quiet nights as we are....also breakfast no later than 0845 was a little keen !
Review 28:friendly staff, lovely touches ie bottles of water on departure & free loveheart sweets, good breakfast & clean, well kept b & b. owners obviously take pride in their establishment!
Review 29:Friendly ,welcoming staff who went that extra bit to assist , always with a smile . Lovely light spacious room and bathroom. Stayed with our Downs Syndrome niece who thoroughly enjoyed her stay. Best hotel breakfasts we have ever had. Loved the little touches, take away table for guests to use bottles of water given for journey home , a big thankyou .
Review 30:That I could not get onto the wifi there was a code but did not work
Review 31:The room was very nice clean and had everythink you need for a overnite stay the breakfast was fantastic had a enjoyable overnite stay
Review 32:Over priced, a very small bar and no food I would say it should be classed as a 1st rate B and B. Stairs very steep with fire door at top making opening with suitcase difficult and dangerous.
Review 33:Staff very friendly, very clean and breakfast 1st class and plenty of it,
Review 34:Nothing in particular. The only problem we had was trying to use the shower. It was difficult to maintain a descent temperature as it was dual controlled through the taps. However, this is not a complaint by any means, just a inconvenience as it took 20 minutes to get a descent temperature and when I did, it was just tepid. Very clean and tidy and would definately visit again.
Review 35:Pleasant welcoming and quite a homely B and B.
Review 36:Rooms were dated re furnishings and decorations. There was not much by way of frills. eg a packet of two biscuits for a room for 3 people didn't show too much attention to detail. It lacked soul.
Review 37:Friendly staff. Comfy bed.
Review 38:The bedroom was dirty. I complained about this but nothing was done about it the following morning when the room was serviced. Also the curtains were old and faded and hanging down because of broken fittings. The road was very noisy under our window.
Review 39:Warm welcome, plenty of car parking space and good location. Attractive and spacious dining room where the service was very good. Nice sheets and towels.
Review 40:Nothing to dislike except maybe the price was a little high for bed and breakfast.
Review 41:The breakfast was excellent, beautifully cooked and piping hot. Only complaint was the soggy toast. Staff all very pleasant and happy.
Review 42:Nothing at all
Review 43:The staff couldn't do enough to help and were so accommodating. Found out cycle routes when I left ours behind! Free chocolate and bottle of water on leaving were a complete surprise!
Review 44:Only 2 points, if I had to find a complaint. The head board knocked on the wall even if you just sat on the bed and the curtains were a bit too thin and let car headlights in.
Review 45:The people are what make a hotel. The staff were Extra helpful and approachable and made us feel that we lived there. Thank you for making our weekend.
Review 46:Tiny shower room/cupboard No wifi signal in room Beds low to ground due to ceiling height
Review 47:Friendly, helpful staff Excellent location Good breakfast
Review 48:Not enough towel rails in bathroom and the room could have been checked more thoroughly between occupancy
Review 49:Very friendly and comfortable. Good local information
Review 50:Very warm at night - opened window but traffic passes quite early in the morning. Vegetarian breakfast was probably cooked in same pans as the meat and made one of us sick. Non vegetarian didn't like greasy breakfast either, but there are cereals etc
Review 51:Large comfy bed. Nice sized rooms. Staff excellent. Free off street parking. Walking distance to variety of pubs, shops and restaurants - good location
Review 52:At £118 inc breakfast for one night is pricey. Yes it was new years eve but still too much for a good but basic hotel come b&b.
Review 53:The friendly staff. Location just minutes from the town centre. Hotel had everything you needed but just a bit basic for the price.
Review 54:The location is excellent, close to the town centre, and a good base for exploring the area. The room was spotlessly clean and comfortable. Staff excellent. Would stay again.
Review 55:If you have mobility issues book a room on first floor.Staff were helpful with bags but no lift.
Review 56:Space in room customer service, convenience and general ambience
Review 57:Location was perfect. The room was very clean & spacious with lots of storage room. Staff were friendly & helpful. We would definately stay again & would reccommend to others.
Review 58:Wifi was very weak in our room but when finding a good signal, Internet access was acceptable. A lack of comfortable chairs in the room, even though there was space.
Review 59:Friendly welcome. Clean and pleasant rooms. Excellent breakfast. Only a B and B but almost in the town centre so good location for restaurants. We would stay again.
Review 60:Minor mistakes in breakfast order, but I am struggling to think of anything negative to say.
Review 61:Friendly, helpful, and cheerful staff. Comfortable room. Excellent breakfast. Mugs (rather than cups) for tea and coffee in room. Free Wi-Fi.
Review 62:At £125 a night not good value. Worth £80-£100 because of location not quality of hotel. Even in the busy boat show season. The Bellbat Brooke far better hotel but was full that night.
Review 63:I stayed here with my brother and my 80 year old father in Family Room, Freezing COLD shower. Not impressed. Also getting an invoice sent over to me (as we'd had an early start) was a bit of a trial.
Review 64:Room was fine, clean and comfortable in good location. In annex from main hotel.
Review 65:We booked at the last minute on a very busy Saturday. They were fully booked at the hotel but offered us their two bedroomed cottage for no extra charge. Very comfortable and quiet. Great breakfast too. Would definitely recommend
Review 66:no bath, just a shower and the decor is a bit dated (although very clean) and carpet in the dining room is not my thing, apologies (wood effect floor would be my suggestion). All in quite pricey and there are cheaper rooms nearby (by up to £50 less for two people) if you don't need to be within walking distance of Lyndhurst itself.
Review 67:Excellent breakfast; plentiful, good choice of options and cooked to perfection. Friendly receptionist which was great and nice garden to sit in, with a 'bar' at good prices (£2.50 for large can of larger - fine by us). We had a very large top floor room with flatscreen tv, kettle etc, but
Review 68:Lovely location and very friendly and service minded staff. My friend from Norway left a couple of sandals in the room, and these were sent by post free of charge. Fantastic service!!!
Review 69:The bed mattress was extremely uncomfortable with the springs digging in. It needs replacing.
Review 70:I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the hotel and the plush feeling of the carpets throughout.
Review 71:Maybe a little overpriced but it was the week before a bank holiday.Car park a bit small if you have a large car.But these are only minor niggles don't let them put you off.
Review 72:Friendly staff & great breakfasts and ideal location this is the second time I have stayed here and would definitely come back again .
Review 73:The staff were very helpful and friendly The location was perfect, close to High St Lovely hotel with a very comfortable feel Breakfast was very high quality, great local produce and perfectly cooked
Review 74:Bed was a tad too small although comfortable. Bedside metal lamps were filthy, not plugged in and when we did plug them in kept turning off and on. They didn't feel safe. Happy with bathroom size but could have been a bit cleaner (hairs on floor). Traffic noise we expected but we did not expect the whole bed to shake every now and again! Not sure if this was from bad plumbing or when a large vehicle went past. Breakfast although very nice was up to 8.45am! Very early and we were not hungry when we ate. We feel the accommodation was let down by lack of attention to detail, cleanliness of room, lampshades not working etc which there is no excuse for really particularly given the price.
Review 75:Ease of coming and going and non-intrusive friendly staff. Breakfast was very good. Lovely cosy looking lounge area by reception. Good sized TV in bedroom. Split level design bedroom so younger son sort of had his own area. Nice sized bathroom. Great location and parking available.
Review 76:No negatives comments. It was first class and they derserve to be No.1.
Review 77:We liked the service and the personal attention we received. The staff were very polite and attentive, nothing was too much trouble. It was very close to all local amenities in the town and within walking distance, so we didn't need to use the car. Very clean and the choice of breakfast was excellent, well cooked and served promptly.
Review 78:Rachel and staff were so friendly and helpful.Hotel has nice atmosphere, spotlessly clean. We have been travelling in UK for 6 weeks now and this is the nicest B and B we have stayed in. Sue, New Zealand.
Review 79:Possibly a little overpriced bearing in mind the facilities but suppose this comes with wanting a convenient location.
Review 80:Good staff, from checking in to checking out. Must be one of the best cooked breakfasts we have ever had. Good location ,easy to get to local eating places, cafes, pubs. etc. Good parking,a central location for anywhere in the New Forrest
Review 81:Friendly staff, access to Lyndhurst, restaurants and the surrounding country side.
