Reviews for Best Western Grosvenor Hotel

Review 1:On the booking website it stated cost of £58.50 & breakfast free but when it came to booking/paying breakfast was £8.50 each-not good!

Review 2:The Position.

Review 3:Seems very mean in such a hotel not to give things like shower cap, moisturiser... Heating couldn't be altered, room was very hot. Duvet cheap quality but good linen.

Review 4:Location Reasonable price for a Jan one-night stay to attend theatre. Comfortable, reasonable-size room, all very clean.

Review 5:A very poor breakfast selection and bacon and sausage overcooked. Bar only takes c.card payment or billing to room after 10pm. £3 car park charge which was an unexpected extra . Bedroom windows constantly wet with condensation and the paintwork badly needed cleaning and re-painting. It looks like a charming boutique hotel but feels too much like a chain.

Review 6:Hotel fine for an overnight stay only.

Review 7:Staff were knowledgeable, helpful, friendly and always professional The hotel was clean and tidy as were the rooms The evening meal and was excellent as was the breakfast A thoroughly brilliant stay

Review 8:The room was extremely hot, I didnt realise the thermostate was at it's highest setting. I think I could have turned it down and it would have been fine but I didn't realise the thermostate was in our room.

Review 9:Location was a short walk into town. The breakfast was very good.

Review 10:Although very well positioned for the theatre as the dining room does not open until 17.45 it makes the meal rushed (no time for deserts!). I suspect many guests like to use the theatre so why not open a little earlier?

Review 11:Very close to the theatre; easy parking as the hotel was quiet. Dinner was tasty and a reasonable price.

Review 12:Not a bad experience with the hotel, but a day into our stay we decided to stay an extra day. We paid the total balance on leaving, however on returning home a few days later I checked my bank account and discovered a shortfall in my available balance, which was equal to the price of our original stay. My card was swiped on arrival, obviously for this amount.I have phoned the hotel and the matter is, hopefully, being resolved. I was told it would take about 5 working days, however I can't understand why it could not have been rectified immediately.

Review 13:Everything! Would definitely return.

Review 14:Didn't seem to be a lot of room in the bathroom to hang bath towels. We returned from the theatre just after 11pm expecting the Hotel bar to be open but it was all closed up. Parking can be a little bit tight at times.

Review 15:This Hotel is in a brilliant location just a few minutes walk from the Town Centre, Theatres & Shakespear Sites. Wonderful breakfast. Spacious & comfortable room. Friendly staff who are very helpful & welcoming. Is our 3rd stay at this Hotel & we plan to return again soon.

Review 16:The exterior of hotel could do with a coat of paint but thi does not effect my opinion of hotel as it was very nice inside

Review 17:rooms very clean staff excellent food and service in restaurant very good convenient to walk into stratford

Review 18:Excellent room, location. Quiet and very comfortable - had a great night's sleep. Shower fab and breakfast delicious. Staff friendly and professional. Parking easy. RSC theatre visible from front door! Outstanding :)

Review 19:Nothing!

Review 20:Lovely hotel, great location. Very comfortable beds, nice clean warm room. We requested a quiet room and got a lovely very quiet room No. 174. Flat screen TV, coffee and tea making facilities including biscuits. Clean bathroom with lovely thick warm fluffy towels. Body/Hair wash over the sink and bath. Restaurant looked very nice, we didn't eat there as we were meeting friends at a restaurant. Hotel bar very cosy and warm. All staff were very friendly with a welcome reception.

Review 21:Everything, from checking in with the very polite gentleman on reception to the waiters and waitresses in the dining room and bar who were all very friendly and professional! Our evening meal was beautiful using all high quality food. Our room was a little small however it worked perfectly fine for us. We would certainly stay here again and recommend to family and friends.

Review 22:He hotel bedroom was too hot even though the radiator wasn't on in our room. The bed was a bit soft but that's a personal choice.

Review 23:Excellent location. Lovely hotel and bar. Great parking. Lovely breakfast.

Review 24:This was our second visit to this hotel. The location is excellent - within very easy walking distance of the theatre and town centre. On both visits we found the staff to be committed to the welfare of guests - nothing is too much trouble. We shall stay here again!

Review 25:Booking.com advertised this hotel as 70% off per room ...I still paid £112.00 and booked 2 rooms as I thought I was getting an excellent deal I asked friends to come too . Once there you were able to book a room for £92 ..and our room was a twin and not very clean .stains on the chairs water was cold for bath ..so really it was only the location that was brilliant.

Review 26:Very close to town and sights (walking distance )

Review 27:The safe in the room didn't work, so we had to use the reception safe which entailed queueing to put in or take out valuables. The hairdryer also stopped working halfway through drying my hair. I was celebrating a special birthday which had been noted on the booking, but nothing special was arranged when we got there which was disappointing. Also, the milk in the little pots was off. We suggested it should have been left in the fridge.

Review 28:The staff were very friendly, breakfast was great and the room was comfortable and clean

Review 29:Some rooms are feeling very outdated, and would benefit from some modernisation. For example, new baths and shower units. The old style mixer tap in my particular room was starting to become very awkward to turn. And the chrome plating finish was starting to peel off. I wasn't concerned about this. But as I am a repeat customer ( and hopefully still intend to keep using the Grovsner ), I thought it would be best to bring this to your attention.

Review 30:The staff were excellent as per usual !!. Always polite and well mannered. A credit to Best Western !!.

Review 31:Could not get wifi on my I-pad all duration of stay which was disappointing and safe did not work in the room, however I was able to put valuables in the hotel reception safe.

Review 32:Location is excellent for city centre, only 5 minutes walk, and very quiet. Staff are very helpful and friendly Room very clean and modern

Review 33:Staff very helpful on reception. A disco that was taking place was very noisy and we were moved to another room without a fuss. Christian , the manager, was very apologetic and gave us complimentary breakfasts. Greabreakfast too. Will visit again as the service was second to none

Review 34:Our bedroom was above a function room where the disco went on until midnight ,no warning from the hotel about this .I do not understand why they didn't allocate these rooms to guests from the party and allocate rooms away from the noise to other guests .Car parking was full on our arrival ,used public car park across road

Review 35:Pleasant and efficient staff great location for town centre .

Review 36:A minor point that may need attention was the water pressure at the Hotel. When taking a shower in the PM and AM the pressure would drop leaving the water with barely a trickle.

Review 37:The room was warm and spacious, beds comfortable and the breakfast cooked to a very good standard. The staff waiting on at the breakfast area were very helpful and informative, and the cleanliness of the accommodation was 'On the ball'.

Review 38:We were told during evening meal by the waitress that a loud disco was likely to keep us awake possibly until 1.30 am for a private party. Fortunately it finished earlier but it was almost impossible to sleep until then with heavy-metal sounds from the suite below.

Review 39:The food, room and decor were beautifully presented. Staff were friendly, helpful and efficient.

Review 40:1. Stayed in Room 117. Unable to sleep properly due to continuess noise from nearby machinery within hotel. 2. Internal layout of hotel meant walking up 1 floor to walk down 1 floor to reach Room. 3. Washbasin tap did not work. 4. Washbasin very slow to drain away.

Review 41:Very good location.

Review 42:Good location. Room was clean & comfortable. Whole hotel is quite dated. Location excellent for town, restaurants etc. Breakfast was absolutely average.

Review 43:Twin rooms, mattress too soft! Well used, radiator needed bleeding. Could have had a lou brush in the bathroom.

Review 44:It was clean and comfortable...good price and easy reach of centre. Staff very polite and helpful.

Review 45:There us nothing to really dislike. Only difficulty we had was trying to explain to the housekeeping staff that we would like an extra soft pillow and some milk. Their English is very limited and we gave up in the end.

Review 46:The Grosvenor is perfect for shopping or sightseeing in Stratford. Situated close to the town centre and the park and theatre. Excellent hotel. Rooms are extremely comfortable and very clean. Breakfast is the best we've had anywhere. We come every year to do our Christmas shopping. Perfect.

Review 47:Power lost immediately upon room entry but fixed promptly No toiletries, not even soap, and only 2 coffee sachets for 2 people No tv remote Fridge not functioning properly Mould in grouting in bathroom Exit door slamming duuring night

Review 48:Breakfast, comfortable beds...a pity tha nearby exit door slamming prevented sleep.

Review 49:Located on front of hotel, noise from road due to windows. wedding party in evening, hence noise from disco / people smoking at hotel entrance. Rooms excessively hot even though radiators were off.

Review 50:Put in a room above a party and the kitchen So hot made us feel sickly and opening the window and putting the fan on made little difference in fact the smell of fat from the kitchen was not an attractive aroma The kitchen activity was very loud, banging and slamming The music from the party was so loud it was difficult to hear the television I did complain and the music was lowered a little but still i felt it too loud I would not have stayed at this hotel if i had been warned that i was in a room (202) that would be noisy and so hot.

Review 51:Lovely clean hotel Breakfast outstanding Staff polite

Review 52:The only thing I didn't enjoy was the temperature of the room was far to warm.

Review 53:The staff were so friendly and helpful. The bed was so cozy, the room was spacious and the bath and shower were great too.

Review 54:Technological difficulties with the key to my room, I solved it after about twenty (20) tries. Also the shower. I have always found two taps on the bath are for hot and cold NOT for bath or shower. This caused me to fill the bath using the shower, very slowly! I believe a change of this nature should be announced to residents somewhere in the bathroom. Also I never solved the light over the bathroom mirror. None of this was due to the local staff. All is due to the design at Head Office who I suspect are relaxing in thinking that they are FANTASTIC. They are NOT!

Review 55:Location really good, and early evening meal, pre theatre, was excellent in terms of quality and value - far better than we expected, and of restaurant standard rather than hotel fare.

Review 56:Parking facilities v poor - had to wait for a space for two hours in the pouring rain - missed out on some shopping as a result because we had to stand and wait for someone to leave - got wet through!!

Review 57:The fact it was near the centre

Review 58:The service all fell apart at breakfast. the lead waiter was abrupt looked distinctly unhappy and shared it with both staff and guests.

Review 59:The hotel was well appointed and good value for money. Most of the staff were welcoming and polite.

Review 60:Reception did not ask for a swipe of card on checkin, we orders rm service drinks at a supplement of £5 which is extortionate , however we were on a relaxing break from work, upon returning from our evening we called into the bar before retiring unable to put on our room-embarrassing! Also only 1bath towel !

Review 61:Location

Review 62:We booked an Executive room (224) but found the room very difficult to get warm, despite turning up the air-con heating thermostat to full (32 degrees) it never felt really warm.

Review 63:Location of hotel. Helpfulness of staff Room was very comfortable and quiet.

Review 64:problem with not enough parking at hotel although one night was ok. also no soap ,or any toiletries was poor and unexpected it wasnt a travelodge!

Review 65:comfortable beds and warm room, cleanliness and location. also fairly quiet which was good.

Review 66:The room was very hit, no where to turn down the heat and the bed was very soft, could do with a new mattress or topper.

Review 67:Nice staff, very clean and good location. Very traditional decor but suited the place.

Review 68:Had to wait to check in while receptionist was on the phone and did not acknowledge me. Car parking cost extra and space was limited.

Review 69:Cosy room, nice pillows. Great situation close to the centre of town

Review 70:Breakfast not included. 8.50 extra.

Review 71:Good, quiet location within easy walking distance of downtown and most sites. Complementary pass to town recreation center with pool & climbing walls.

Review 72:Nothing

Review 73:The location is great not far to walk into town. The recepton staff were very helpful and friendly we had a great nights sleep here very quiet in the morning no cleaners hoovering outside our door and no traffic noise very peaceful and relaxing.

Review 74:Hotel rated as a 3 star but to be honest is definitely 2 star at most. hotel is tired and in need of a complete refurb. Room was tidy but tired looking which included: Exposed concrete around the toilet, a cracked sink, cracked bathroom tiles on the wall and floor, door was damaged. Shower was barely useable and vanity was worn and tired looking and topped off with a none working tap as well as a blocked sink and bath tub drain. The bed mattress was so thin I had to use the blankets as a mattress cover to prevent being stabbed by the springs. To top the visit I spent the night listening to a clothes dryer intermittently working next to my room. You would think I would have learned from my previous stays at the best western... but chanced my luck one too many times. I would have had a better stay at the premier next door for roughly the same price.... very disappointed. Best Western needs to wake up to the competition.

Review 75:hotel location which was really close to the town center. Polite staff.

Review 76:Our room was large but small window and very gloomy. Bathroom could be cleaned to a better standard. Car park quite inadequate.

Review 77:Plenty of staff, very friendly, breakfast menu had good choice.

Review 78:the food in the restaurant to be honest was the worse i have ever eaten, 3 people in a group of 6 didn't eat their food. my curry was for sure a iceland frozen curry. the risotto was full of black ink not dribbled, the carbonna didn't even have any bacon in it. we didn't complain as we were on a family long weekend away and didn't want to spoil anything.

Review 79:the location

Review 80:Cramped small car park. Difficult to get a large car in/out. Small bar area for size of hotel.

Review 81:Not to far to walk into town. Tea and coffee facility in rooms.

Review 82:Overall I thought the food quality was poor. Evening meal, I had grilled salmon with kale and beetroot It was plain with chewy kale and a slice of beetroot and 3 very small new potatoes. Tasteless. £12.50!! Breakfast bread was like cardboard. Cheapest brown bread with no taste either. They should offer granary bread or something healthier. The hotel has 3 stars and is a bit shabby although an older building.

Review 83:Efficient & friendly staff both reception and restaurant. They supplied soya milk and a vegetarian breakfast as I requested.

Review 84:Music until 11.30pm. Was not too loud but could still hear it.

Review 85:Large bedroom on the front. Free parking. Very nice breakfast - wide choice. Hotel only 5 mins walf from town.

Review 86:Breakfast till 10:30 mean I can have a lay in. Very good location to stroll to the theatre or into town. Their "Afternoon Teas" are very special, have a late one and skip Dinner.

Review 87:Had to ring reception both evenings of our stay to ask for heating to be put on. I couldn't understand why you have to pay £3 per day to use the car park even though we were guests.

Review 88:It was a nice quiet hotel. The food was good. Most of all it was the location. Only 5 minute walk to the river and shops.

Review 89:Stayed in executive room and it was ok,not brill hate to have seen standard room.stayed in best western in western France which was miles better.

Review 90:Location was excellent

Review 91:No air con in the rooms but that is just a very minor point however they did provide an electric fan in the rooms as for us even with the radiator turned off the room was warm.

Review 92:We arrived early evening and the young Lady on reception was extremely helpful and friendly. We asked if their were any plays on in town while we were there? She set to finding out what was on and updated us later that night supplying us with print outs of what was on. The staff in the resteraunt were also top notch. We sat down ordered our food and drinks, everything arrived at a good interval and as the resteraunt was serving other guests we had expected longer serving times! They were also very attentive with just the right amount of attention while we were eating ( no sitting with empty plates or glasses etc). The reviews we read had said parking was an issue but we managed to find a space despite the car park being quite full, peak season I imagine it could be an issue! The staff made our stay very enjoyable so many thanks and we will recommend this establishment to others.

Review 93:Car park was too small so had to park elsewhere but didn't stop them trying to charge me for using it. No lift and narrow staircase so difficult manoeuvring luggage Food was poor

Review 94:Clean and good luck to cation

Review 95:Far too hot & need to have a door from bar area through to room 120 and not have to go up stairs along and down another set!

Review 96:Helpful staff excellent breakfast

Review 97:Poor room standard. Inadequate parking despite being charged extra. Poor service and refreshments at event.

Review 98:We attended a post funeral event and the service and refreshments were appallingly bad. The duty manager served no useful purpose and failed to understand preagreed menu choices, and felt he was above organising replenishment of tea and coffee. How difficult is it to provide tea coffee sandwiches shortbread and cake for 15 people on a Tuesday afternoon as previously booked. I am so annoyed I have requested a full refund.

Review 99:Nothing :)

Review 100:Great hotel, good food, comfortable room/bed, excellent facilities, very close to town centre, easy access from out of town, parking good.

Review 101:The room was far too hot we had our windows open all the time and it was suffocating and gave me a headache. No beans made the breakfast good instead of excellent

Review 102:Location was spot on and the decor and upkeep of the hotel was very pleasing

Review 103:No lift but staff swapped us to a ground-floor room when they saw we had a pushchair. It's a shame parking isn't free for guests, but the staff kindly let us keep our car there til lunchtime on check-out day (at no extra cost)

Review 104:Great location, really friendly and helpful staff, bargain price and free upgrade to a spacious triple room. Really nice, reasonably-priced breakfast and pleasant bar area. Good choice for families.

Review 105:Only slight problem was we had a ground floor room and the staff wheeled the bins past our window at 7.30 both mornings, might not be too early for some but on a weekend we thought it was a bit early.

Review 106:Location is perfect. We have stayed here before and would stay again. There is a car park but parking can be a bit tight.

Review 107:personnel could be more friendly, they provided a map but did not spend too much time to explain the attractions around the town

Review 108:location is very close to town center room was big enough for two person

Review 109:Portion sizes were quite small - particularly vegetarian breakfast. Food was nice but vegetarian options were poor. Also parking was difficult - even in the hotel car park which was an extra £3.

Review 110:Staff were extremely welcoming, comfortable bed and generally a pleasant place to stay.

Review 111:Car park is limited, almost had difficulty leaving due to a daytime function who required parking spaces, when there were not any so they were hovering in the hope someone was leaving.

Review 112:Excellent service in the restaurant, very attentive but discrete, food was lovely.

Review 113:Don't get room 160 - the window looks into another room of the hotel so no light let in as had to keep the curtains closed. Because of this it was also extremely hot as no fresh air so had to leave on a noisy fan overnight. Only given one bathroom towel despite being a double room and the full English didn't include beans!!

Review 114:The location is great - easy accessible from the edge of town but two minute walk to the centre.

Review 115:Room quite small and very warm there was a fan in the room but was very noisy. Summer months would be unbearable!

Review 116:Nice hotel in good location a bit worn in parts! All in all a nice few days stay.

Review 117:Bathroom in ground floor bedroom had poor layout for disabled. Issue with heating in the room but staff did their best to right issue and offered portable heating if radiator problem could not be fixed quickly.

Review 118:Disabled parking and access to hotel. Choice of food good and presented well. Well serviced dining area at breakfast. Friendly, helpful staff.

Review 119:I thought the cleanliness could have been better (the wash hand basin taps had toothpaste from the previous occupant) the decor is a bit sad

Review 120:I liked the closeness to town and the staff were helpful and pleasant would stay again

Review 121:Only one small problem - when we returned early Thursday evening we found the room had not been cleaned and bed was not made and towels had not been changed - We did mention it to Reception who said it would be dealt with but it was not done -

Review 122:The staff were very welcoming and helpful - they were also quite informative regarding the area -

Review 123:No lift !!!!! Big problem. We booked executive rooms. One chocolate bar between two !!! No fruit as advertised. Real wasn't any different to a normal room. Expensive bar doesn't encourage you to drink there. Stayed for three days and waiting staff didn't get the breakfast order right once.

Review 124:Nice bright decoration. Pleasant reception staff. Although there were a lot of negatives. We would stay again because of the location

Review 125:No bad experience - we left a day early because of health problems

Review 126:The staff were absolutely first class. Polite and always helpful. The hotels greatest assett

Review 127:Breakfast room and bar area a little too warm.

Review 128:Very central, easy short walk to river and town. Staff very friendly and approachable. Cooked Breakfast served promptly and cooked nicely. Have stayed here on two previous occasions and have enjoyed each one.

Review 129:Ground floor rooms 4 steps higher than reception. Large bathroom adapted for wheelchair use, but with shower over ordinary bath. Surely this should be a wet room or have an easy access bath. Priority given to conference delegates, in car park, rather than hotel guests. An overnight booking should include free parking.

Review 130:Good-humoured, polite, very helpful staff. Well cooked, attractively presented food. Comfortable beds. Easy to find. Close to town centre.

Review 131:Great location handy for all Stratford places of interest. Parking really tight and you are charged albeit less than local car parks. Breakfast staff very helpful. Good breakfast

Review 132:Had to ask 3 times for towel Incessant noise from bar-mindless 5 note music; asked twice to turn down volume Out of date yogurts at breakfast

Review 133:Good breakfast, near to RSC theatre

Review 134:There was no where to put the towels in the bathroom. There was no soap or shampoo and the toilet roll holder fell off the fitting.

Review 135:Value for money and nice welcoming staff

Review 136:Most uncomfortable beds with tatty upholstery - not acceptable for a hotel this price range

Review 137:The staff was friendly and the availability of car park was a +

Review 138:not having an allocated car parking space for the duration of our stay

Review 139:location to town, very clean, excellent service and very friendly and helpful staff. very well down. Will certainly come again and recommend to our friends
