Reviews for Schooner Point
Review 1:What's not to like!
Review 2:Very friendly couple, served gluten free food for breakfast for no extra charge which was brilliant as a lot of places dont cater very well for coeliacs. Would definitely reccomend this B&B and will stay again I am sure!
Review 3:The weather but Dave and Carol could not do nothing about it
Review 4:Was very welcomed at schooner point, Dave and carol could not have been more helpful and being Xmas they made us feel at home
Review 5:So much thought goes into the guests comfort. Flasks of cold milk for tea making instead of silly little sachets, bowls of sweets (and replenished after we ate them all the first night!) Guests with the lesser view from their bedroom get the best view table in the dining room! Excellent breakfast! Freshly made cakes available to eat or wrapped to take out. Lovely robes and new slippers in the rooms. All very special touches which make this a fantastic place to stay.Wonderful views and 2 minute walk into town. Can't be faulted.
Review 6:The owners (Dave and Carol) were so nice. We arrived when it was raining, windy and cold and was welcomed with a hot pot of tea! The place is very clean and comfortable!
Review 7:Very kind hosts Carol & Dave, so helpful. Breakfast menu and food excellent, all cooked fresh! My single room and private bathroom, beautifully clean and comfortable. The view from the window is great, wonderful pictures of Sunsets over the sea? Dave's daily piece of cake was lovely??
Review 8:Steep steps down from car parking area and again up from the road.
Review 9:Very friendly and helpful hosts. Our room was very comfortable with a huge bed and fantastic views over the river and Looe. It was our wedding anniversary and there was a lovely anniversary balloon by our breakfast table on the morning of it. A lovely touch. Breakfast was delicious!
Review 10:Lots of little extra's, including, real milk in a fridge on the landing, robes and cake of the day :D Nice breakfast and friendly helpful hosts, with very clean room and bathroom. Would highly recommend; good location.
Review 11:We loved everything about this fabulous guest house. Carol and Dave were amazing hosts and Dave helped us with our luggage which was so brilliant. Carol had tea and cake and fresh lemon water upon our arrival. A lovely friendly couple.
Review 12:This Is a lovely, clean, friendly establishment with some facilities that are better than the vey best hotels that I have stayed in. The views are fantasticas it is well above the harbour on the hillside in West Looe. Suitable for all but the very infirm.
Review 13:Our hosts were helpful and attentive. The breakfast was very well prepared and the USP was the excellent homemade cake that was available each day. All in all very nice.
Review 14:Coffee and cake on arrival , very clean and tidy , perfect location for short walk into looe , free off road parking , great breakfast , perfect hosts , cake to take for journey home
Review 15:Nothing
Review 16:Very welcoming and helpful owners, superb room facilities and attention to detail. Excellent breakfast and final touch of offering cake to take away free of charge.
Review 17:There is nothing to dislike about Schooner Point !
Review 18:What a gem ! Everything about our stay was excellent. Carol and Dave are the perfect hosts making you feel like old friends rather than paying guests. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The location is spot on. Only 5 minutes walk from the town centre. Breakfast (full English, toast, cereal, yoghurt and fruit salad) was outstanding. We shall certainly stay again when we are in the area.
Review 19:Carol and Dave once again looked after us really well, great breakfast and delicious chocolate brownies to take away. Only unfortunate thing was we didn't book so could only stay one night. Only a short walk downhill to pubs and restaurants.
Review 20:Nothing to dislike, though steps and stairs could be a problem for those with reduced mobility.
Review 21:A warm welcome from Carol and Dave who are great hosts. Comfortable room with amazing views over Looe river and out to sea. Room was not en suite, though had a beautifully equipped bathroom for sole use and a bathrobe and slippers were provided.Good breakfast plus little extras like a fridge for guests' use, with fresh milk, and homebaked cakes. Highly recommended to those without mobility problems.
Review 22:Friendly, warm and welcoming hosts. Fabulous room with amazing view. Delicious breakfast and cakes for our trip were delicious. When we arrived we were welcomed with a much appreciated cup of tea and piece of delicious cake.
Review 23:Lovely comfortable stay, Carol & Dave are very welcoming & helpful hosts offering a flawless service with excellent attention to detail. Breakfast was exceptional would highly recommend. The chocolate brownies were delicious, we enjoyed them on our onward journey thank you.
Review 24:Only downside are the steps to the property, there are a lot. Only mentioning this as anyone with mobility problems would struggle but for us it wasn't a problem
Review 25:The staff are amazing couldn't do enough for us. Excellent choice for breakfast and the full English is perfect. Room was always spotless and little extras gave it the finishing touch
Review 26:We stayed at Schooner Point just one night, being travelling all around Cornwall, but we would have loved to stay longer. The B&B is in a wonderful location, at walking distance (just a couple of minutes!) from the centre of Looe, with great views on the river. The hosts Dave & Carol are really nice and helpful. The B&B is spotless and everything looks brand new, breakfast is amazing...what could you possibly want more than that?! (Just to let you know, I am usually quite picky when it comes to hotels and B&B...but this one is absolutely lovely!) Thanks Dave & Carol!
Review 27:Wifi was on and off during out stay
Review 28:Location great, breakfast fantastic, spacious room with all amenities. Free parking either on site our outside on street. Five minutes from town center. Great view from room. Friendly hosts.
Review 29:Having to leave
Review 30:our stay at Schooner Point was excellent. Carol and Dave are great hosts who really seem to go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need. The breakfasts are amazing (especially the pancakes). There is even a slice of cake to take with you on your day out. The rooms are very clean and comfortable and ours had a great river view. We can't recomend Schooner Point and Carol and Dave highly enough.
Review 31:Loved the room with tub chairs with view over River. Loved the willingness and welcoming tea and cake received by the owners. Loved the offer of morning tea every day.
Review 32:Lovely welcome on arrival with tea and cakes. The best B&B we have stayed at with every little detail thought of including good quality bath toiletries, cotton wool balls, bath robes and slippers. Beautiful views over the estuary from all front rooms.
Review 33:Friendly but not overbearing hosts, wonderful location with spectacular views, spotlessly clean, lots of little additional touches like fresh milk for tea and coffee in rooms. First rate breakfast and so much more. Truly wonderful B&B.
Review 34:Very comfortable room with a great view of the river and just a short walk to the heart of Looe. Breakfasts were the best I have experienced anywhere and the "cake of the day" a thoughtful and unexpected gesture. Carole and Dave were warm and welcoming, despite the very late hour of our arrival and couldn't have been more helpful throughout our stay. Highly recommended.
Review 35:Lovely rooms and bathroom big breakfast didn't need any lunch made to feel very welcome will definitely stay again on the next visit to looe and all the little extra bits like shampoo etc home made cake to take out with u
Review 36:No lounge to read a book if the weather was poor or in the dark winter months
Review 37:Big bathroom, linen tablecloths and napkins, homemade toast and cakes, nice bathroom products and lots of personal gestures
Review 38:Where should we begin? Wonderful breakfasts including daily cake of the day to take out if you wish, comfortable clean bedroom and bathroom with robes, slippers and lovely toiletries, excellent location - just a short walk into Looe and welcoming and friendly hosts. We have stayed at many bed and breakfasts and would rate this as definitely one of the best.
Review 39:No complaints
Review 40:Dave solving my car problems and welcome cup of tea and advice on where to eat. Lovely food and cheerful service from both Carol and Dave. Wonderful stay. Good location.
Review 41:Nothing really - some visitors will not get on with the number of steps, and it's also worth checking in advance if you want parking close by.
Review 42:Comfortable room, convenient location, parking, availability of single room at a reasonable price, helpful owners, good breakfast
Review 43:Nothing to dislike
Review 44:Everything especially the offer to take delicious cake away with you for the day, chocolates placed in the room on a daily basis as well as bicuits. Fresh tea, coffee and milk instead of the miniscule sachets and milk pots.
Review 45:Coffee in sugar pot in the room. Amount of grease on the breakfast plate was off putting. Just need to drain grease off food more when dishing up or grill & oven cook the food instead of fry. I know most people will prefer this option.
Review 46:Very helpful. Willing to go the extra mile to help. The bed was so comfortable. The continental breakfast looked and tasted amazing :)
Review 47:Absolutely nothing!
Review 48:The room was wonderful . So clean, fresh and well decorated with every attention to detail. Dave , co-owner with Carol his wife, will take your luggage from your car straight to your room while Carol makes a welcome cup of tea if you would like one. The breakfasts …. well just fantastic. Lovely, friendly couple.
Review 49:The only thing i would say is the room we were in need black out blinds or a metal plate on the outside light to reflect the light down, as when we turned the light off in the room it looked like i had not turned it off and it was on all night..
Review 50:This was a good location and the house inside was very nice and so were the rooms, there are a lot of places to eat out for dinner.. The breakfast is very good and so is there bread pudding..
Review 51:Great welcome (tea and cake!), hospitable, friendly, clean, comfortable, lovely room, amazing breakfast. What more can I say, only that as a solo traveller I can't recommend this place enough for quality, comfort and excellent value for money.
Review 52:I did not have any bad experiences here. I would just point out that the house occupies a prominent end of terrace position which inevitably involves some steps. Car parking is easy by arrangement but if arriving on spec the bordering streets are narrow and parking limited.
Review 53:Every last detail seems to have been considered. The proprietors were friendly and helpful. The cleanliness, comfort and attention to detail were superb. Town centre is only a ten minute walk and just a few minutes more to the seafront. The breakfast menu, quality and presentation was top notch.
Review 54:Hosts so welcoming - coffee and cake upon arrival. Room 'lush' views fantastic. Highly recommeded, will definitely be staying again - Thankyou so much (even given cake for journey home which of course was delicious)
Review 55:That we had to go home!
Review 56:We appreciated the warm welcome and service from the hosts which continued throughout our stay. The pristine bathroom and room. The little treats left in the room. The delicious breakfasts and the consideration towards my mentioned lactose allergy.
Review 57:We loved the friendly atmosphere and the most welcoming hosts we could have hoped for who went to great lengths to make my girlfriend who has vegan dietary requirements feel very welcome. Will definitely come back, thank you!
Review 58:The owners had a dog and although we didn't see it I have an allergy to dogs hair and had itchy eyes in the dining room. This was not a problem in the bedrooms though.
Review 59:The location was excellent. Owners were very friendly and attentive and the extras like homemade cake made it a very enjoyable experience
Review 60:don't like stairs!
Review 61:the hosts were very welcoming and couldn't do enough for you would highly recommend this to others the views were beautiful
Review 62:Proprietors so friendly. Felt like one of family. Nothing too much trouble. Nicely located just a short walk into Looe. Bed really comfy and large bathroom. Lovely views (Foredeck room). Wonderful breakfast and they sent you away with cake!
Review 63:This is the best B&B I have ever stayed in. A lovely warm welcome, with tea and cake, and a great room with a fantastic view. Nice and close to town centre. A modern, spacious bathroom, spotlessly clean throughout. Awsome breakfast. You get the perfect blend of a family guest house, while being left alone when you want private time. Do yourself a favour, stop trawling the Internet and just book here, you won't be disappointed.
Review 64:Nothing to dislike but awareness that the property is accessed by a number of steps so caution for anyone with walking difficulties. But knowing the owners as we do, they'd probably give you a piggy-back up !!!!!
Review 65:You are welcomed with tea and cakes and a friendly smile. The owners will stop at nothing to make your stay pleasurable. Even the bedding has a certificate of cleanliness.
Review 66:This B & B is in a great location with fantastic views over Looe river as well as only being a very short walk in to town. The breakfast was Fantastic with a great selection to choose from on the menu, as well as fresh cakes and juices. Dave and Carol were amazing hosts, offering advice on local attractions, fresh cake and coffee on arrival, and even a take away cake for the journey home :-) The room was beautiful, comfortable and spotlessly clean. I loved the little extras like sweets in the bedroom, and toiletries and bath robes in the en-suite.
Review 67:Wonderfully furnished room with superb view of river, Excellent breakfast and cakes!!!! Very friendly, informative and helpful hosts, Highly recommended.
Review 68:My only reservation would be that you need to NOT have problems with joints or mobility as the slight hill and then stairs might be a bit of a challenge....down from the carpark and up from the road. Otherwise a perfect stay.
Review 69:Everything about this B and B was GREAT, from the warm welcome and help with bags, to the beautiful room, and the delicious breakfast - with "cake of the day" to take with you for morning tea, where ever you go :)
Review 70:A warm welcome awaits you at Schooner Point. Friendly, helpful and accommodating. Dressing gowns and slippers were provided in the room, which was lovely and thoughtful. Our room offered fantastic views of Looe, which is a short stroll from Schooner Point. Gluten free is catered for, giving lots of choices in cakes, breakfast cereals and cooked breakfast too. Lovely hot shower with luxury toiletries and a warm warm with clean, comfy beds. Thoroughly recommend.
Review 71:The breakfast was outstanding and I loved The Lemon Drizzle Cake to take away for my walks. A great value single room overlooking the river, warm and comfortable. friendly owners with the freedom to come and go as i wanted.
Review 72:Excellent place to stay, Dave & Carol were very friendly host and very helpful and informative. Breakfast was first class and a very good selection on offer which was all local produce where possible....Would not hesitate booking a stay again.
Review 73:The steps & stairs - but we were warned and for a first time worth it. But I doubt we'll come again whilst I've problems with walking.
Review 74:Everything - especially the consideration we were shown.
Review 75:Lighting a little dim when putting on make-up.
Review 76:Hosts were very accommodating and friendly gave us plenty of information about area.accommodation was spotlessly clean. Excellent breakfast. Down not suitable for anyone with poor mobility due to lot of steps and quite hilly, this did not however bother us.
Review 77:Nothing to dislike really, except the hills which is what you sign up for when you go to Cornwall !
Review 78:The owners were welcoming and very helpful. gave us useful information about the town and made us feel very welcome. Very professional and everything to a very high standard.
Review 79:wasnt a problem for us but as courtesy to other guests - assumably due to noise no showers after 10pm
Review 80:the larger than normal bed ( we have a king at home and usually find hotel beds very small!) fantastic third floor views, scrumptious breakfast, friendly hosts
Review 81:I loved everything about the schooner point b& b!!
Review 82:From the moment I stepped through the front door I felt at home.Dave and Carol were very friendly and their warm welcome and excellent hospitality made my visit unforgetable. Their home was amazing, clean and very comfortable with superb views of Looe. I have already recommended the schooner point to my friends and family and I hope to go back for another visit soon. Thank you.
Review 83:I booked Schooner Point some months ago and as we were travelling all the way from Australia, I was disappointed we were put in a smaller, more cramped room, with no view. The shower was also a disappointment.
Review 84:The breakfast was outstanding. The welcome tea and cake was a lovely touch.
Review 85:only the weather. But it is late October !
Review 86:fantastic views, warm , friendly welcome. The accommodation was amazing. Much better than a hotel. The breakfast was delicious too. Lovely couple who run the b&b made our stay very enjoyable. Would highly recommend this place.
Review 87:Lovely welcome by the hosts. Tea & cake on arrival Birthday balloon in our room, Perfect room. Amazing breakfast. Will be visiting again very soon
Review 88:We were offered a much needed cuppa and delicious cake on arrival. Super room, very comfortable and great brekkie. Left with a peice of Carol's Chocolate and banana cake for morning tea. Have recommended their B&B to friends who live in the U K and holiday in the area often as their regular B&B has closed.
Review 89:The house is not ideal for People with Walking Problems (staircases).
Review 90:Carol & Dave were marvellous Hosts. They gave good advice on Dining out and attractions to visit.
Review 91:Location is ideal, providing you can manage the hills and steps down to the quay. Very helpful owners who looked after us from the minute we arrived. Great airy room and fantastic breakfast. Free wifi was a great help to us.
Review 92:Not applicable to us, but those with mobility difficulties would find it tricky to access. Nothing that can be done about this as the property is situated on a hill, but would suggest against booking here if you have trouble walking.
Review 93:Views were just wonderful. The hosts, Dave and Carol are fabulous and nothing seemed too much trouble. Breakfast was great. Take the cake!
Review 94:We had the front room with a view, which lives up to it's description, a large comfortable bed. Carol & Dave are excellent hosts and welcomed us with tea & cake when we arrived. The hotel is convenient for the town, beach & southwest footpath. Award winning breakfast what more can you want?
Review 95:access involves steep slopes and stairs, however we knew this so not a complaint and the owners carried our bag to and from the car
Review 96:run by a charming helpful couple, comfortable room and a great breakfast
Review 97:Nothing!
Review 98:Such a warm welcome from hosts who couldn't do enough. Home made cake everyday. A brilliant breakfast. Lovely clean rooms. Great location.
Review 99:Lovely couple who ran Schooner point. Looked after us and nothing was too much. Definitely recommend staying here and then a meal in the smugglers cot!
Review 100:Stayed here for one night and could not fault a thing. The welcome was warm with the offer of a drink on arrival, room was well kept and comfortable with great views out over Looe. The breakfast was great with a wide variety to choose from (both hot and cold) along with a generous serving of coffee. Then there was the offer to take a huge slab of homemade chocolate and banana cake with me on my travels. Its not very ofeten i'd give a 10/10 but the Schooner Point more than deserves it. I could'nt find anything associated with my stay that rated less than perfect.
Review 101:Nothing.
Review 102:Loved Looe, hosts very friendly and accomodating. Accomodation top quality everything though of to make your stay very comfortable. Excellent breakfasts with good choice of food.
Review 103:There wasn't anything to not like.
Review 104:We received a text message from carol and Dave on the morning we were due to arrive which I found very thoughtful. Dave carried our bags to our room for us and got us a cup of tea and a slice of homemade cake which was delicious. We stayed in the anchorage room and it was lovely, the bed was comfortable, en suite great and there was even a bowl of chocolates that was replenished every morning. The breakfasts were fantastic, they really did think of everything. I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting a few days away. It is in an ideal location, walking distance to looe. We will be returning!
Review 105:We loved everything, Carol & Dave are very special people, we felt very welcomed at their B&B. They certainly know how to look after you and spoil you. They are a great team. We are sharing our experience at Schooner Point Looe with all our friends and hope that some will enjoy a night or two when travelling through the south of England
Review 106:No complaints!!
Review 107:Room immaculate with lovely furnishings.hospitality friendly.Nothing was too much trouble!!Amazing breakfast!A place we will visit again!!
Review 108:This is a very nice place to stay just a short walk to the center. Carol & Dave make you feel home right away! Highlight:Carol singing while cooking breakfast;-) Parking is a bit tricky but that will be managed by Dave right away!
Review 109:Absolutely fantastic place. Dave and carol made us feel so welcome. Even had a candle in my breakfast for my birthday. Room was beautiful and spotless will be going back.
Review 110:parking was differcult, and lots of very steepstairs, anyone with back or walking differculties do not stay here. Walking down the back stairs i noticed some rubbish bags but i needn't have worried, that in no way reflected on the spotless house inside, and i suppose ur rubbish has to go somewhere.
Review 111:rooms were so clean, pure white towels everything u could want and more. Rooms very modern , fab. If a bit small but ur only in it to sleep. We had room at the back would def try and get front room next time for the view. Breakfast lovely with great choice. Lovely hosts.
Review 112:Wouldn't recommend for anyone having difficulty with stairs/steps as quite steep climb to get to property. To be fair Dave is more than willing to offer help and goes the extra mile to assist!
Review 113:Superb effort by hosts to make us welcome and ensure we had everything we needed!
The Fine Print
Parking is at the rear of the house and not all GPS systems find it, directions are as follows:Cross the bridge from east to west Looe and take the 2nd turning on the left, opposite the entrance to the Mill Pool car park, this is North Road, at the junction turn right, 350 feet on the right is the parking bays for Schooner Point. Please be advised that the parking bay on the right has a steep incline that some cars (low profile) may find difficult. To park on this bay it is best to drive past the bay, with the bay on your right, and reverse on at a slight angle. Please do not drive or reverse on direct, as this may catch the underside of the car. Alternative parking is free on the road side, or overnight on the Mill Poll car park.Take the steps attached to our parking bays to the bottom and follow the path around to the right, this will bring you back to the front of the house. Please note that the property is accessed through steps and this may not be suitable for guests with reduced mobility.
