Reviews for Ormonde House Hotel
Review 1:Poor staff manners of front of the desk and restaurant staff. They all need to be retrained; or replaced. Breakfast quality needs to be improved.
Review 2:Location of the hotel, jacuzzi bath, spacious room.
Review 3:In some of the top floor rooms the roof timbers lower the hight of the ceiling to head hight.
Review 4:Great location for a country walk or a stroll in to Lyndhurst. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the restaurants is definitely worth a try.
Review 5:Room was very clean and had a nice large bathroom. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Excellent place for taking our dog. Location was great for walking and commuting to other villages. Food was great in the restaurant. We will be booking again this year.
Review 6:Occasional sound of cars early morning as on main road. Windows had to be open as heating on and too hot if closed
Review 7:A short walk to Lyndhurst shops. Rooms a good size with everything we needed. Friendly staff on arrival, quick and efficient.
Review 8:the bed was 2 single beds pushed together and the springs could be felt through the sheets.
Review 9:Great location and very quiet! Clean room in the eaves of the building.
Review 10:Slightly dated decor but overall a good stay.
Review 11:Very comfortable bed and very quiet at night. Good location across the road from lots of ponies and a few minutes walk to the high street. Breakfast was very nice as well.
Review 12:nothing really
Review 13:near shops and nice restaurants.hotel comfy and staff helpfull. overall for price good value. has a jacussi in some rooms, very nice!.Plenty of off street parking, has own car park area right in new forest
Review 14:Reception on tv at top of house was poor. I don't mind dogs but if you are not a dog fan please be aware this is a very dog friendly hotel!
Review 15:Excellent location for walking into Lyndhurst and discovering the New Forest. Choice of food on evening menu was extensive. Dined here 1 of the 2 nights we stayed and it was delicious.
Review 16:Wifi isn't great, but we didn't come to the New Forest to play on wifi!
Review 17:Breakfast was excellent and room was very pleasant. As warned on the website, Room 2 does get very loud in the morning, however.
Review 18:Nothing it fulfilled our expectations and requirements.
Review 19:Excellent location. Good food from a changing menu Friendly staff Comfortable bed Super shower and bathroom
Review 20:I think we may have been upgraded to a superior room upon arrival as we only booked a standard and the room we got was huge with a sofa in it. The breakfast was lovely and with proper butchers sausages!
Review 21:Our room was in a bungalow next door to the main hotel and it was like going back in time 50 years (not in a good way!), I felt like I had gone to stay with my great grandmother.
Review 22:Staff were very friendly, breakfast was excellent, great choice and quality.
Review 23:Hotel pricy for room only, (breakfast extra), but this seems to be an expensive part of England. Our room was above the kitchen so we had to close the window to avoid the cooking fumes coming in
Review 24:Great breakfast - lovely selection of fruit, and good cooked breakfast. Convenient location to walk into Lyndhurst, or across the road to the park.
Review 25:The road outside was really busy, even at night. The TV was very small, and the signal kept cutting out.
Review 26:The staff generally were helpful, although the receptionist seemed really miserable! The evening meals were excellent. The room was very clean.
Review 27:none
Review 28:staff very friendly ,, location is very central for all traveling, Very dog friendly ( towels/ dog treats in porch ), As we had a dog they made breakfasts & dinners available in the bar ( food very good )
Review 29:Common areas were tatty and in need of a good dust and hoover. Shower wouldn't work if someone else in a nearby room was showering or running a bath, This was reported twice but no investigation or offer of refund when checking out.
Review 30:Staff were helpful and location is excellent
Review 31:No wifi in the pinewood rooms. Also the noise of the boiler licking into life is very loud and did disturb sleep. One of the reasons of booking was to have wifi but room was changed and it was not explained that wifi would be unavailable.
Review 32:Food, breakfast being brought over and whirlpool bath.
Review 33:found the bed very uncomfortable, there was at least one broken light ion the conservatory for all our staff, dinner was a bit limited
Review 34:Staff were great my wife was taken ill during our break they were fantastic, breakfast was very good
Review 35:tough narrow staircases, our rooms on 3rd floor no air conditioning and very hot in 3rd floor rooms staff didn't accommodate a 90 minute late checkout
Review 36:Nice staff, good location - easily walkable to Lyndhurst and New Forest trails; nice breakfast
Review 37:breakfast could have been better ....poached eggs great bed was too soft for me ,but overall place was lovely drinks a little overpriced
Review 38:location...poach eggs
Review 39:None
Review 40:All of the above. The staff even made a table for us in the bar so that our dog Tia could be with us during breakfast. Plus a stack of clean towels awaited in the front porch to wipe our dogs feet and a bin to place the used towel in. Dog treats were also in the porch.
Review 41:If you have a dog, suite 4 is perfect. Garden outside your conservatory door. Worth every penny of the small upgrade. Also being at the back, the suite is incredibly quiet. Could hear a pin drop at night. Perfect. Really clean & huge, comfortable bed. Fridge stocked with juice, milk & yoghurt & plenty of tea, coffee etc.
Review 42:Had a fantastic stay. Staff are amazing. We love it. Think price is a little too high for the garden rooms but this was addressed and dealt with. We love it here, so does our little dog. The staff took her out for a walk one day when we were out.
Review 43:Oops see above
Review 44:receptionist distinctly unsunny. couldn't have said less or done less. thought it was expensive for what it was but suppose we were paying for location. However the view of new forest which we should have been able to see through bedroom window was obscured by the condensation in all but one of the double glazing units. we had a clear view of the roof through the velux window though.
Review 45:very close to new forest national park, acess through gate up the road. Breakfast was excellent. good choice of cooked breakfast. staff at breakfast attentive. nice conservatory overlooking garden to eat it in short walk into the centre of town. room up top seem small and cramped because of sloping ceiling. bathroom was fair size with whirlpool bath.both rooms very clean
Review 46:The banister on the stairs to the 2 bedrooms which are located through the dining area were not easy to hold especially for my husband who has a problem climbing stairs.
Review 47:Food was very good
Review 48:No lift and no offer of help with my luggage and I was on the 2nd floor. You had to order dinner before 6pm.
Review 49:Good size bedroom Good food Easy to find
Review 50:Nothing really
Review 51:This hotel has a good location and was very clean and comfortable. The staff were excellent and the breakfast was lovely. Even the bar prices were reasonable. Value for money good too.
Review 52:Nothing terrible, just a rather dated feel to the decor, service and overall ethos. It simply felt as if the staff needed a little updating of their professional skills. No-one offered to help with luggage on arrival or departure (we managed OK, but if we'd been less fit, maybe not). The lady taking our breakfast orders seemed to favour "interrogation" as her service style and kept hovering like a prison warder overseeing the inmates, making it difficult to relax and enjoy the otherwise very good breakfast. I don't think any of this behaviour was deliberate - just a lack of awareness of how to have a professional presence.Supper was a puzzlingly mixed bag - ranging from excellent in some places to rather poor in others.A fabulous tuna starter cooked with flair and imagination; really whetted my appetite for a then rather average chicken course with (inexplicably) two styles of potato, while my husband's very nice trout was accompanied by rather awful greasily fried and over-salted samphire. We declined pudding but tasted a tiramisu rejected by another table, which was made up almost entirely of cream. Apparently the chef was fairly new and was perhaps grappling with an old menu designed by another chef while trying to establish his own style. He did show real promise in some dishes so I hope he gets the chance to expand his own repertoire and bring some fresh new ideas to the menu (while taking care to learn the classics!) We were also a bit phased when asked to pre-order our food at the time of booking our table, and also to find that our time slot was deemed "full" with only two covers. This led to a very empty restaurant with little buzz or atmosphere. If only serving 8 covers per evening, why not stagger them to overlap more and bring some life and energy in the room, while allowing us time to sit and choose from the menu with a glass of wine in hand.
Review 53:Reasonable sized "superior" room with comfortable seating area and access to garden, plus whirlpool bath. Robes provided in bathroom, plus a fan, and a fridge with fresh milk and water supplied. Very good breakfast. Overall I think the owners really want all their customers to be happy and try their best to please, even if sometimes this makes some of the staff over-anxious and easily flustered. The position is excellent for forays all over the New Forest - even on foot, and is ideal for families with young children who can book an apartment, also dog-owners who are warmly welcomed, and older couples wanting a traditional style hotel with a familiar and homely atmosphere.
Review 54:The minute we checked in we felt they were not welcoming because we had a 2 month old baby. The bedsheets were very dirty. The telephone socket was hanging out of the wall and the telephone was not working. The stairs were very narrow and not suitable to carry a baby.
Review 55:Nothing
Review 56:Had a front downstair room which did suffer from road noise.
Review 57:A good sized room, plenty of parking, very good evening meal and extremely helpful staff. Very pet friendly.
Review 58:As soon as we walked up to the property the pleasant smell of roses from the beautiful garden gave me such a warm welcoming Feeling. Everything was in perfect order from top to bottom. there was even a bowl of water and treats for my doggy at the front door.
Review 59:Staff were very loud, even when speaking with you directly so nothing was confidential. They also sat everyone in the restaurant facing into the centre of the room - this made things a little awkward.
Review 60:The evening meal was cooked to perfection. Everyone in the restaurant seemed to also enjoy their meal. In all honesty it was a surprise to receive such great home cooked food when it is not your initial thought when walking into the hotel or restaurant area.
Review 61:The hotel is quite unique and an easy walk to the center of the small town. This was a good stopover point when traveling from the West to South of London. As it turns out, we would have liked to have had more time to explore the area.
Review 62:These were minor things but road was busy to cross, would use car next time but large car park available. There was no sink or water in dinning area where hot drinks and fridge were located.
Review 63:Everything. We expected an average hotel but were given an apartment with a garden area and very close parking, where we could have our dogs inside with us. The bed was brilliant and breakfast was served in the dinning area. There was a lovely dog walk across the road.
Review 64:Unfortunately we had to come home one day, early short of our estimated booking due to unfortunate circumstances .But thank-you all the same . Dennis & June Simms .
Review 65:The food and choices were fantastic,of a very high standard, congratulations to the CHEFS
Review 66:Bathroom could do with a refresh, the peeling paint was a bit off putting as was the noise from the water pump which went off every time the people next door used a tap or flushed the loo in the night.
Review 67:We asked for a quiet room and were given a room in the annex which had everything we needed, even a bottle of fresh milk in the fridge which was a nice touch. The staff were friendly and professional. The location was perfect for access to Beaulieu which was the main reason for our stay.
Review 68:We were on the top floor and no lift and my husband suffers from severe arthritis. bedroom furniture was very old and dated.
Review 69:the food was excellent but portions were enormous.
Review 70:I chose strips of beef for the evening meal however I was not asked how rare or well done I would like it. As it happened the meat was fairly rare with a lot of pink meat, some of which was quite tough.Everything alse was fine.
Review 71:The proximity to the woods, park, walks and cafe/shops . The sunlounge was great for socialising with other guests and well behaved dogs.
Review 72:We only stayed for a single night while walking in the New Forest. We went for a superior room which was large and very comfortable. Our room, No.7, was over the Conservatory and facing the road, so there was some conversation and road noise, but nothing to bother us. If you want perfect quiet go for a suite or possibly a rear room. The evening meal was excellent - nothing complex but generous and very well cooked. perhaps too generous, after a starter and main we couldn't fit in dessert. The wine is very reasonably priced. Breakfast was also good. One thing to note, you need to get your evening meal choices into reception by 6pm. There's a small bar and a nice sunny (well, it was when we were there) conservatory, with settees, books and newspapers to lose an hour or three in.
Review 73:The food was excellent !!!! the bed was very comfortable. Room was as good as some of the 5star hotels. We missed having a biscuit with morning tea???
Review 74:Bed was too hard and uncomfortable. Were met with a cold reception on arrival (who did warm by dinner).
Review 75:Clean room, large shower and dinner was fantastic. The best beef and mushroom we've had! We were in the heart of the New Forest. Great fish and chip shop a short walk away.
Review 76:Forgot to mention where dogs were/were not allowed around the hotel however they did set up a table outside the restaurant for our breakfast and had this set the following morning ready for us
Review 77:Great friendly staff, great sized room and perfectly located to reach all areas of the forest in a short travel
Review 78:Nothing to dislike.
Review 79:Breakfast delivered to room. Turndown service for the dogs (our puppy had his blankets re-laid in his crate during room cleaning). Great size room for us and two dogs. Convenience of having fully fitted kitchen.
Review 80:Nothing was too much trouble, we were celebrating our wedding anniversary along with valentines but wanted to bring our dog along who is not used to being in unfamiliar surroundings, the staff were able to set up a table out of the restaurant for us so our dog could be with us even for our romantic evening meal, which was just wonderful. They also have towels and pooh bags and water as you get to the first door which is great The room and public areas had beautiful red roses giving a romantic feel to the weekend. We were very happy with the how weekend a lovely fresh clean and friendly hotel with great food.
Review 81:The room was spacious, comfortable and clean and the bathroom worthy of a top hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good quality and plentiful. I was extremely happy with my stay.
Review 82:Our dog got locked inside the room as we think he jumped up at the door and somehow dropped the latch and they then had to break the door frame off. Perhaps different locking mechanism but I realise this may be hard to do. No real harm done though just not how we wanted our stay to end
Review 83:Excellent location for walking in the new forest. Breakfast was delicious. Friendly staff.
Review 84:What a lovely hotel... And great location a short minute walk to lyndhurst town... Breakfast was nice... Hotel was creaky and old but I think it gives it character! Bed was not as comfy as I would have liked.. Otherwise no complaints.
Review 85:Two very minor negative points: there was no WiFi access in the suite and no recycling facilities. All rubbish had to be put in one bin.
Review 86:We stayed in a Pinewood Suite, which was ideal for two adults and two dogs. Location is perfect, with access into the forest opposite the hotel. Restaurants, pubs and shops all within a couple of minutes walk. Everything we needed (milk, bread, cereals etc...) were provided. Oh, and the Jacuzzi bath was amazing after a day of walking around the forest!
Review 87:Restaurant for evening meal did not open until 1830 after a long day food was needed before this.
Review 88:The room was very comfortable friendly staff breakfast choice was superb and food was very good. All in all a great hotel and would certainly stay again. Only a few minutes walk into the centre of Lyndhurst.
Review 89:Walls were a bit thin so could here the conversation next door,so obviously if we coul hear them they can hear u
Review 90:Near to the new forest for walks, lovely spar bath, close to the shops
Review 91:Bath shower door could be larger to prevent water spraying on the floor. Otherwise nothing!
Review 92:Good value, comfortable and friendly. Perfect location for cycling, safe storage for bikes. Lyndhurst centre with nice pub restaurants within walking distance. Plenty of off road parking.
Review 93:Two day stay, one day fine, second day, one of breakfast staff quite sharp and irratating, lacking interpersonal skills. Wifi quite limited range
Review 94:very pet friendly , location, superior room with garden view, well worth it.
Review 95:The people above us decided to talk rather loudly all night, stomp around their room and just cause way too much noise. I'm 6 months pregnant and really needed to sleep. Put a downer on our stay. My advice to everyone is get a room upstairs if you can.
Review 96:The staff were helpful, I wanted milk late at night and they were happy to go get some.
Review 97:Nothing.
Review 98:Hotel perfectly located with good size car park. Met by the lovely receptionist who showed us to our room. The room was large, massive bed, sofa bed, TV and the fridge was a bonus and fresh milk for our Tea and Coffee. (stairs for us not a problem but if you have any difficulty with stairs book a lower floor room). The bathroom was modern and immaculate. Loved the little touches of toiletries etc. Dinner in the evening was very good. Service great and plenty of food - particularly the stilton mushrooms. All enjoyed with a bottle of sparkling wine. Really liked eating in as we did not want to go into Lyndhurst to the usual Pizza, Chinese and Indian restaurants. Breakfast again fantastic from Service to the cooked to order breakfast plus all the pre and post items available. Will definitely stay again. Very close to all the places we wanted to see in the New Forest.
Review 99:What a lovely hotel! Took my husband and our 4month old puppy away for a night stay and what can I say everyone was very inviting and very friendly. Perfect location and very good value for money. Will defiantly stay here again. Highly recommend to other dog owners as this hotel has everything. Rooms were lovely. Overall haven't a bad word to say :). Thanks
Review 100:Hotel looks bit old and dated from the outside but expected that from pictures, inside too is slightly dated but v well maintained and spotlessly clean. We didn't use bar or restaurant although the menu looked great, but breakfast couldn't be faulted. Cooked fresh, eat what you want, was brilliant. Hotel allows dogs which is great if u have one, although if you are not a fan of them like myself there is no evidence of them ever being there at the hotel as it is so clean, wouldn't put me off staying there again at all. Hotel is in perfect location and we are already looking at dates to return.
Review 101:Bed not good on our backs but I must say all people are different
Review 102:Everything was very good although we were close to main road we didn't here any traffic noise. The breakfast was excellent arrived to our room in a box and was still very hot.the staff were very helpful the young lady that showed us to our room took time to explain the facilities in our room nothing was a problem for her she is a credit to the hotel
Review 103:The hotel is on the main road A35 so there is a bit of road noise if you are on that side of the building. Also had a problem with other loud guests during one night but the overnight staffing service sorted that immediately.
Review 104:Great location for accessing the rest of the New Forest, we cycled most of it! Staff were very helpful and the breakfast was great - full cooked breakfast as well as the usual yoghurts, fruits, cereals.
Review 105:Ground floor room below very squeaky floorboards and possibly judging by the amount of squeaks situated beneath main corridor above.
Review 106:Room was very modern with walk in shower. Breakfast very nice with lots of choice.
Review 107:Cooked breakfast was superb. We also enjoyed the option of having croissants and coffee in the conservatory later in the morning. We were given a free upgrade to a room with a spa bath which was lovely.
Review 108:The staff were lovely , friendly and welcoming . The breakfast was lovely . Our stay was lovely and quiet , was worried because dogs were allowed and didn't realise this till after I booked but it was fine ; I like dogs but my husband doesn't !
Review 109:Boiler was noisy. Other residents parked outside our bedroom window and entrance door.
Review 110:Accommodation was clean and well laid out. Kitchen facilities were excellent and clean. Staff were helpful and went out of their way to ensure we had an enjoyable stay.
Review 111:Breakfast was so-so. Also, wish they started serving it earlier. Parking on the property is not always available, but you can park on the street. To me, it was a bit pricey, but I think the rate was cheap for that area on a weekend.
Review 112:Easy to find. Room was nice & comfy. Very clean. Staff were nice, polite, & helpful. Quiet. Great location for getting around the general area. I would definitely recommend.
Review 113:Seemed to be very expensive for what you got, but that's possibly a reflection of the area. Wouldn't rush back for the breakfast. I thought we were getting a jet bath in the room, but was only a shower.
Review 114:Location was good, plenty of parking and only a short walk into town. Room was nice enough and the bathroom was very modern. Very clean throughout.
Review 115:We stayed here for our anniversary in the garden suite with spa bath, it was amazing and will definatly be returning. Breakfast was brought to your room in the morning, lovely fresh meat. Staff we're very friendly and helpful. Location was spot on for lovely long bike rides/dog walks. Loved our stay!! Recommend it to anyone.
Review 116:The ambiance in the bar and restaurant is disappointing and one evening after dinner there was no spare chairs to sit on to have a drink.
Review 117:The food quality was excellent and reasonably priced. Very convenient for walking in a great part of the new forest and the treats and towels available for our dog was something special.
Review 118:large comfortable bedroom and bathroom with added extra large whirlpool bath. great choice for breakfast. Great location for walks, shops, pubs and restaurants. Ample parking.
Review 119:Everything, the staff looked after us fantastically. The room was clean and bed very comfortable. The food was excellent and plenty of it.The location was great , forest over the road and short work to town. Will definitely be going bsck
Review 120:Unfortunately our room was right over the bar, and the noise level was quite high, as was the squeaky doors on the stairway outside the room. Also our bed was a bit lumpy! Just unlucky I guess!
Review 121:Very nice welcome from Kim on our arrival at the hotel, most of the staff were equally helpful and welcomed us. The breakfast is a perfect start to anybody's day!
Review 122:I hate being asked to pre-order food on arrival which was the case here. How do I know what I want in 2 or 3 hours time? Service was a little robotic and stilted. At £115 per night I expect Wi-Fi in the room which was not the case.
Review 123:It was ok, nice bathroom with spa type bath, plenty of space in room
Review 124:The decor is a bit mis-matched. Chintzy pictures and modern furniture.
Review 125:Very friendly owner, nice room and fab breakfast. Good access into the forest and Southampton.
Review 126:Dog friendly 5 mins from shops pubs and restaurants They supplied brilliant information on walks with maps and instructions 1 minute from the New Forest
Review 127:The noise from the road. This was only an issue when you had the windows open! We would notice this coming from the country.
Review 128:The breakfast was superb!
Review 129:no negatives
Review 130:staff very friendly,Rooms not your "Bog Standard" square rooms found in big chain Hotels.Nicely situated for a 5 min walk into Lyndhurst with friendly pubs and eating places .Good Breakfast freshly cooked and a fruit and cereal buffet. Couldn't fault anything. All in all a nice friendly Quaint hotel and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again
Review 131:Great place to stay while cycling in the New Forest. Easy access to all cycle paths, lockable bike shed for the nights, and friendly staff, good breakfast and very comfortable, spotless rooms.
