Reviews for BEST WESTERN Gatwick Skylane Hotel
Review 1:The check in staff were excellent and the transfer driver was the most polite person we have ever met even brought our car to the hotel steps because it was raining what a great guy.
Review 2:Kettle was dangerous, kept sparking and cutting out. Took four requests for new kettle before anything happened. No TV remote, got replacement last day of stay and it didn't work. When I complained to the Manager he just looked at me as I had no right to complain.
Review 3:Not a lot!
Review 4:No BBC channels available on the TV in our room
Review 5:Excellent value for the price. Courtesy bus to airport very convenient and its driver really helpful. Decaffeinated coffee available in room.
Review 6:Staff were not very helpful and had a didn't care attitude no information was passed on regarding breakfast etc. the next morning at breakfast a male employee was clearing the table dropped a fork wiped it on the back of a chair and put it with the other cutlery to be put out again next time. Same man was short with other guests regarding where to get coffee. Nobody said please or thank you at all either checking in or at breakfast and there was nobody on the desk when we left.
Review 7:The location and that we could all be in the same room.
Review 8:Very poor wifi ,the TV didnt work so we had to change rooms.Bath towels very small and most were not laundered properly and had marks on them.Unable to provide an invoice for my partners company ?
Review 9:Cold showers!! Water in sink tap was warm but no hot water for a bath or shower, very disappointing when you have had a long journey to get to the hotel and you want to freshen up.
Review 10:Clean, comfortable rooms and good location to the airport. Good breakfast at a reasonable price.
Review 11:The hotel is very very run down. Staff were miserable and impolite- after 9 hours of driving we were all tired and hungry so we went into the hotels restaurant where other people where having their dinner, the restaurant staff was very blunt and said 'we are closed' and rushed past us. He looked to be in a very bad mood. Seems ridiculous that they were already 'closed' at 7pm on a saturday night. The hotel itself is shabby, with food wrappers thrown on the floor of the corridors. The room itself wasnt too bad, very basic but clean. The bed was lumpy and you can feel every spring- terrible nights sleep to say the least.
Review 12:Convenient location
Review 13:slightly tired - tv remote didnt work, tap for the basin loose. bedlinen had several tears round the edges.
Review 14:cheap and clean with a good shower; does the job as a crash-base. also easy to find with good parking,
Review 15:All good.
Review 16:Clean, warm and comfortable. Quiet with plenty of tea/coffee and bathroom toiletries to make the overnight stay comfortable. And with very easy reach of Gatwick.
Review 17:When our party arrived we were tired from a long road journey and were flying long haul the following morning, the receptionist could not find our booking and stated most definitely we were not at the right hotel as he had nothing in our names (3 Rooms!!). We had to wait (baggage and all) in reception until I logged on to my booking.com account and showed my online confirmation - he did not even apologise after viewing it, just handed us our keys and we made our own way to our rooms.
Review 18:I booked 3 rooms for our pre-holiday stay, 1 for my husband and I, another or my brother and his wife and a third for my mother. After our prolonged allocation of rooms at reception we made our way down the corridor and one by one opened the doors with all of us looking in to see what was inside, we were very please to see each room had 3 beds in them neat, clean and tidy with plenty of space for suitcases. Evening meal was in the bar - an Indian curry which was very tasty if a little pricey and the staff in the bar made up for the receptionists non-interest in its customers.
Review 19:Being honest the exterior is starting to show its age but for value for money and location to the airport the overall experience is fine.
Review 20:Good location if using the Airport. If you enjoy Indian Cuisine then the Diyr can be recommended.
Review 21:No hot water , had coach party in so the menu for food wasn't available to after 9pm .staff was more concern about keeping coach party happy then other people staying in the hotel.
Review 22:I think the food in the restaurant was overpriced and not that good.
Review 23:The hotel is well located for Gatwick and taxi fares are very reasonable and much easier that coach transfer.
Review 24:Unfortunately, there were other people like us making an early start so it can get a little noisy early in the morning.
Review 25:We liked the size of the room and we also liked the hotel's proximity to Gatwick Airport - handy for early departures. The adjacent excellent Indian restaurant is a bonus.
Review 26:Only small criticism is that the pickup stop at Gatwick terminal is not very clearly marked with the Sky Lane Hotel's name, but a quick phone call resolved that easily (that's more likely the Airport's problem rather than the hotel)
Review 27:If you have an early flight from Gatwick and don't want to risk traffic jams on the M25, this hotel offers a comfortable room and parking for the duration of your holiday. There is an indian restaurant on site too - alternatives are a short drive away.
Review 28:The transport to the airport was messed up, causing anxiety amongst the 6 adults and 3 infants at 4.00 am - and was also priced a bit high. Details on the Bill still need checking out on my return to UK.
Review 29:The restaurant serves very good food - when it serves it. The location is within reasonable distance of LGW at the right time of the day [4 til 7 o'clock]
Review 30:Room was dirty and cold. 4 beds squished in so you couldn't move. Bathroom was dated. No parking when we arrived as car park was full
Review 31:Good location for the airport.
Review 32:No restaurant menus in the room Only dinner available between 6pm and 7pm. As there was a party booked. The room had not been cleaned properly as there was dirt and euros on the floor. We had to get a local takaway meal. The cider pumps had not been cleaned properly at the bar The taste was horrible but were allowed a discount on another drink. We had to get our own iron and ironing board as there were no guest services available.
Review 33:Courteous transit driver
Review 34:Our family in room 10 said that the room smelt damp. Our meals in the restaurant were seved to 7 of the 8 guests whilst my wife had to wait several minutes for hers.
Review 35:The storage of the car whilst on holiday. The lift to the airport and the friendly driver.
Review 36:there was no hot water in the room, and the bathroom was so cold, the engineer told us the radiator in the bathroom, had not been working for weeks,
Review 37:The room was very clean and in order .
Review 38:The duty manager I felt could not be bothered to sort my small problem out,but the other chap I presume was a staff member did, they should change around, job titles
Review 39:Great location,very comy bed
Review 40:No hot water in the morning but I think they had a problem with this so my have been a one off.
Review 41:Very close to Gatwick airport. Excellent service to the airport. Plenty of parking and cheap to stay and park.
Review 42:The hotel desk staff were not very helpful or friendly.
Review 43:We liked the special pricing and the overall facilities were clean & modern. The shuttle driver was helpful & friendly. Loved the restaurant.
Review 44:Room 55. Bed was extremely uncomfortable, felt all the springs & bad roll together. Time for a new one!!!
Review 45:Location being close to the airport, was quiet & they didn't charge extra for car parking
Review 46:Being close to Gatwick Airport there must be early morning travelers. However breakfast starts at 7:00 with no snack facility before that time. We paid for B and B but we're too early for breakfast. No refund was offered.
Review 47:Courtesy bus to airport for small fee.
Review 48:The bed was rather a small double and the bathroom layout rather small. the staff on the front desk appeared a little lack lustre but not rude.
Review 49:The basic price was very reasonable and was the reason we chose the property. We did not eat at the property.
Review 50:The ambience of the dinning and breakfastt room needs to be looked at and breakfast could be improved the way it was set out.
Review 51:Room was clean and good value.
Review 52:It took a little long until we had warm water from the shower.
Review 53:It's really near to the airport, the beds are comfortable and the restaurant has good food.
Review 54:could not get a drink or a coffee after checking in and had to walk about a mile to find somewhere.
Review 55:evening meal excellent. Staff polite good location for airport, transfers on time.
Review 56:Not professional and rude staff . In the morning we been told that we haven't paid for breakfast what wasn't truth ( front of another people) that was unprofessional nobody haven't check anything But they let us "have a breakfast for free" really angry about that . After this we went also speak to receptionist he said in our booking isn't nothing about breakfast what was a lie ! We came back after with our booking and suddenly receptionist checked with booking.com and we was right. Nobody apologized At all . We won't return to this hotel ever again .
Review 57:Room was very clean and fresh . Receptionist let us check in earlier that was great .
Review 58:The breakfast wasn't too good, and the hotel is a little bit cold.
Review 59:The staff was very kind and helpful, they tried to arrange our all request immadiatelly. The room was clean and comfortable, close to airport and town centre is also just a walking distance.
Review 60:Bed was a little uncomfortable. On a whole good value, however it just felt very dated and haphazard. Breakfast was ok however there wasn't any choice on what you ordered and for the continental selection was limited. We much prefer self serve. Also child seat was wiped down in front of our eyes yet when he gave it to us it was still covered in old food
Review 61:The "Restaurants and bar" were a miserable experience. Dirty glasses (the first had grapefruit or orange pulp clinging to the inside) The second had a lipstick rim which the barman wiped with a glasscloth. I declined and drank from the bottle. The restaurant menus are laminated and in dire need of renewal, being sticky and generally filthy. With the exception aof the barman the staff were doing their best but were obviously undertrained (if trained at all). They seem to take advantage of their captive audience (there are no alternative bars or restaurants nearby) and obviously feel that they have no beed to make any effort.
Review 62:The 24 hour reception was useful as our arrival flight was delayed
Review 63:The cost was ridiculous for one night. We could have stayed at the Hilton for the same price. Hotel corridors and room smelled awful like BO and unwashed bits. Won't stay again.
Review 64:The housekeeping staff were very friendly
Review 65:First night had a really good nights sleep second night guests started banging room doors around 3.30 in the am, this continued until 6pm. We were asked to pay the tarriff on arrival - never been asked to do that before.
Review 66:Very comfortable bed clean ensuite bathroom
Review 67:Front of desk staff are useless. Made us wait around even though they knew we were there and had to stand and push for service. Not at all helpful if you asked them anything. Never smiled or offered assistance with bags or car parking. A real shame as this could be a much better experience if they had some customer service.
Review 68:The Indian food in the restaurant was amazing and authentic and makes up for the poor check in service and waiting around. The website states food is served until 9.30pm but we got there at 9pm and they said there was no service. Our kids were starving and we persuaded them to serve us but was difficult. Staff are demotivated and like robots. We tipped the staff well so in the end got great service in the restaurant. Rooms are clean and beds comfortable
Review 69:TV barely functioning. Channels 1-2-3-4-5 were not tuned in. We thus missed a programme we had expected to watch
Review 70:Bathtub in room. Friendly shuttle bus. tea making facilities in room
Review 71:No frills rooms but has everything you need. Simple and plain.
Review 72:Used the hotel as a park and fly for our honeymoon having done the same for another holiday out of gatwick a few years ago. Restaurant and bar serve decent food and drinks at reasonable prices. Car well looked after and shuttle to/from airport very simple. Will definitely use again!
Review 73:Although we booked as a couple our room had two huge beds taking up the small room, therefore no room to move. Had trouble finding the right bus stop (as there are no taxi's at Gatwick!!) the hotel was not listed on courtesy bus board.
Review 74:Breakfast was okay and cooked fresh.
Review 75:Breakfast not available before 7am with no breakfast refund.
Review 76:Minibus service from and to the airport £10 return Good heating system in the room Comfortable bed
Review 77:Everything was closed so we couldn't get a cold drink and the vending machine wasn't working, so we had to make a hot drink in the room
Review 78:Perfect for our over night stop and parking while we are away close to the airport
Review 79:No info on my booking form about apparent name change so the hotel did not appear on the list for shuttle buses. I had a hell of a time and much anxiety actually getting to the hotel from the airport.
Review 80:Getting there!
Review 81:We booked a package including parking & transfers to the airport. Our flight was before the start of the transfer service so paid for a taxi but were surprised to be asked to pay for the return transfer.
Review 82:Staff very friendly and knowledgeable. The bed was comfortable and the room was spacious.
Review 83:nothing really only breakfast was not what i would recommend it was the first time i had used it and as i stay in hoteks with work most of every week i was dissapointed.
Review 84:Always a good service have stayed here many times
Review 85:Unable to obtain channel 1 or 2 on TV and the water was lukewarm
Review 86:We were 3 adults in the room and it was still spacious.Very clean The full english breakfast (in with the room price) was better that I have had at independent B&B's. For the price I paid I couldn't fault it
Review 87:The rain and cold when got home from holiday. LOL :-)
Review 88:I have used this hotel in the past and present and will use again. A+ 5 star all round to hotel, staff, restaurant, and the shuttle driver. Will defently use again, great start to our family holidays.
Review 89:Key card didn't work which meant we had to find the receptionist to open the room but maybe had to wait half hour on a couple of occasions before anyone was behind reception desk, very annoyinh
Review 90:Comfortable beds
Review 91:We waited over half an hour for our cooked breakfast to arrived when it final arrived the order was wrong, we had to leave as we had to catch the shuttle for the airport.other people arrived for their breakfast after us & had their breakfast before us ,we asked where is ours & he said it coming . I complained to the receptionist ,he said he had to speak to the waiter ,our shuttle turned up & I asked the receptionist again if he's sorted this out & he still had not spoke to the waiter ,we had to leave .so I can not sort it out until I return to the UK until the 9th Sept
Review 92:Comfortable Hotel ,easy to get to
Review 93:It had a strange atmosphere! The public areas were not in keeping with the room we stayed in, rather dated and not welcoming. The staff on reception and in the restaurant were a bit odd! Not welcoming just functional.
Review 94:The room had been recently re-furbished and was clean.
Review 95:Staff is the worst I have ever seen in tourism business. Me and my family felt the staff was not helpful, unfriendly and unwilling. Also the first hotel I have seen where there is a huge parking space available but guests have to pay 6.5 £ whereas Restaurant guests can park for free. And I did not feel comfortable to give the car key to the reception while parking there, but in this hotel this is compulsory.
Review 96:Rooms are all high standard. One of the rare hotels where you cannot complain about anything as far as the room is concerned.
Review 97:The slow, inefficient, surly disinterested, mumbling, unintelligible receptionist on check in. Being given a room with wrong beds when I'd phoned to check the day before. Being chased 6 times to hand in car keys, like I was a small child, when I hadn't finished with car, starting as soon as I got there. Breakfast - lukewarm, with soggy instant egg, and toast already cooked before anyone was there(!?.) Them not replying to an email I sent weeks previously. The rate for the extra nights bring wrong on this site and bring told that's my problem and not his. Being told their transport to airport was full and no flexibility in breakfast start time, set at 7am - I wasn't the only one to ask this. Filthy condition of car on return. Finally the fact that they have changed their name since I booked and didn't update me so I couldn't initially find it. Not a pleasant overall start to our holiday.
Review 98:The location.
Review 99:Thought there was no hot water when I had a shower as it was running cold on the hottest setting. Did eventually get hot but took an age!
Review 100:Lovely clean room, comfortable bed and tea/coffee facilities. Didn't need anything else!
Review 101:breakfast needs to be served from 6-9 am. people using this hotel are mostly in transit for flights out of Gatwick and the flights commence very early in the morning.
Review 102:hotel was good and clean and convenient. shuttle to airport good.
Review 103:We parked our car here before holiday all ok, on arriving late on our return guy on reception was useless and gave us the impression ..no room ... Breakfast was disgusting worst I have ever known no attempt to clean up mess from previous diners
Review 104:Room was modern and clean
Review 105:This is basically a car park with a hotel attached. Transport from airport to hotel confusing as hotel is not listed properly at Hotel pick up point at stand 9 at Gatwick. You need to phone the Days Inn number.
Review 106:We were absolutely appalled by the standard of the restaurant and the quality of the breakfast ... the breakfast room opened at 7:00am. By 7:30, when we got there the food had been sitting in heated trays for half an hour, nicely sweating away (sarcasm!) The scrambled egg tasted bad, the bacon was floppy as anything and the sausage was the cheapest they could get their hands on. Now the coffee!!! ... The coffee!!! ... which modern hotel now offers self serve coffee out of a communal hot water urn with cheap instant coffee out of a plastic tupperware box?? At £8.50 a head (including for a 6 year old) We were expecting much better. In fact, you can get better in the greasiest of greasy spoons! Well disappointed!!
Review 107:Good value for money and clean with generally good facilities. The staff were okay, but I certainly wouldn't write home about them!
Review 108:Very small room and only a double bed. Great for me alone but would be no good with my husband as well, he isnt small !., Parking can be an issue
Review 109:Realy good value for money, room was clean and adequate
Review 110:Room OK, staff indifferent, plus bullying while car-parking (they get a lot parking by guests on holiday to/from Gatwick). Not welcoming. Breakfast said 0700, but stuff not out, including toaster until 0720+. Quite a few people thought there was not much on offer until it all appeared. Plus, the waiter cleared my table while I was at the toaster, leaving me asking people next door for serviette/knife/plate! It was a shame that the staff have such a negative impact.
Review 111:The room was a bit warm and we did not have control of the thermostat.
Review 112:The location was great for a flight out the next morning. The shuttle service was right on time and got us quickly to the airport for a small fee.
Review 113:got there late travelled for 4 hrs bar shut at10.30 friday night very poor.got there at 10.30 so bar was already shut want be going there again and want recommend
Review 114:Transfer to Gatwick now £5 each, taxi costs £5.50. Free return but not available after 11.40 and often had to wait up to 30 minutes for it in the past. evening meals now seem expensive.
Review 115:Value for money, well equipped room, secure parking while away, good breakfast
Review 116:The meal which I ordered was very poor. I ordered a jacket potato and the size of the portion was totally unacceptable for the cost. Break fast was poor as well. We had to wait 20 mins for the buffet to be replaced. I.e sausages and scrambled egg. Service in the food side was very poor.
Review 117:The free wifi and shuttle service.
Review 118:Non.
Review 119:Really nice rooms, good location with easy access to Gatwick airport. Pleasant and friendly reception. On site parking for the duration of our holiday.
Review 120:Great difficulty finding hotel 'cos booked with Days Hotel and was not informed of change to Best Western. Time-wasting, frustrating and a Very poor beginning to a holiday. Would have expected some recompense to make up for their error.
Review 121:Room was good and food was tasty. Staff were helpful
Review 122:Since June 2011 I have used Booking.com 164 times with over 250 room nights in more than 100 cities around the world and the breakfast here would rate the poorest I have experienced. The staff were poorly trained, male waiter wanted to clear table before meal was finished, the Spanish lady waiter was nice and polite, the tables in the breakfast area were left dirty after previous sitting, they brought the toast out which was cold and hard, the orange juice was warm....not cold, the sausages were half cooked.......I would suggest I know a good hotel when I am in one and this is NOT one I will EVER go back to........!!!! And, as we all know, when you have a large full suitcase you do not pick it up by the extended handle to go down the stairs, you use the fixed handle on top of the case.....the hotel bus driver should be told of the correct procedure ... totally out of order....and lack of total customer care
Review 123:I did not like anything about this place.....they don't know how to run a hotel......
Review 124:When we went to breakfast we found that we had to ask for glasses, playes and cups. Breakfast was cold and poor quality. The waiter seemed to be looking at the clock and when 9am arrived everything was swiched off.
Review 125:Rooms clean and comfortable.
Review 126:No response to emails prior to stay Lack of parking spaces staff not helpful with room requirements - also heard another group complaining hair dryer was broken restaurant advertised indian food but, there was nothing on the menu breakfast was cold
Review 127:Room was clean and tidy good locality
Review 128:Please update the Hotel name ! Drove past twice before realising name had been changed from Days Inn. Breakfast a bit hit and miss when there are coach parties staying.
Review 129:Value for money. Good transfer service to airport.
Review 130:Breakfast as a little disorganised and could have been hotter
Review 131:Clean and tidy rooms, with the usual facilities, staff helpful, breakfast was good but a little disorganised and could have been a bit hotter.ample parking and good access to gatwick and crawley. Will use again!!
Review 132:was not informed of the cost of transfers to and from airport,it is not explained on website and staff were unhelpful whenasked why we wernt informed about extras £13.50 return transfer too much
Review 133:Not a bad experience, went for breakfast with half hour to spare before finish. There were no cups out for tea, cereals etc were being taken away, I caould understand if wed left it too late, but we hadnt
Review 134:On our return to Gatwick following an eight and a half hour flight we went to bus stop 8 and phoned the hotel for the courtesy bus, we were told it would be 10 minutes. It finally arrived after 55 minutes!. We re- booked this hotel because everything went well last year, following this years courtesy bus disaster we will be booking a different hotel for our next years long haul flight..
Review 135:Evening meal
Review 136:Just a coach full of noisy students, banging doors and making mess of breakfast room,
Review 137:The bedroom and the breakfast a par to the H Hotel's . late arrival so good departure time.
Review 138:We requested breakfast when we booked, and was charged 850 per person, if we were to order when we were there it would have been 5 pounds. The breakfast service was a shambles dirty tables, food run out in hot plate,
Review 139:Room was lovely and clean, bed and linen was excellent, room size perfect.
Review 140:Poor choice for breakfast other than cooked food. Cutlery and crockery not always readily available.
Review 141:Quiet rooms despite location on busy road. Exceptional friendliness of staff.
The Fine Print
