Reviews for Luton Hoo Hotel, Golf and Spa

Review 1:Found it all rather shabby, staff needed to be a little more professional and smarter. Needed "Downton" factor. Breakfast very badly laid out, all very squashed around room.

Review 2:Building and gardens were lovely. Spa was excellent and ran on time. Food was good but service poor.

Review 3:Dark walking back from brasserie, Wehrner restaurant was closed and wanted the fine dining setting saying that the food was very good in the brasserie.

Review 4:Comfy lounge area, friendly, helpful staff, cleanliness, buildings interesting history, facilities.

Review 5:Nothing really. A little more attention to detail would be good but overall it is really lovely which is why we've been many times. Spa got very crowed the pool is on the small size for such a big hotel.

Review 6:We love it very much as lots to do and beautiful grounds and parkland to walk in the dog loved it too and was very spiked with his own bed food and treats.

Review 7:Sorry reception couldn't answer the phone on checkout. Ended up taking own cases through a difficult exit. Heating didn't operate in our room for the entire 3 nights. Was given a small portable heater. Very poor!!!!!!

Review 8:The beautiful building in fabulous grounds

Review 9:Not staying in the main stately manor, we were in the out buildings, which were on par with premier inn and at £260 per night, I expected a lot better, a lot, lot better. the rooms were worth £100 max per night. in the main stately home, we were sat in the main reception area, it was like being in a wind tunnel. apart from an area for high tea, there was nowhere else to sit and relax to read the papers. I play golf there occasionally and I will leave it at that! they won't see me again! I stay in some of the most luxurious and opulent hotels and castles in Britain, visit AmaZing Venues, so I know good from bad! Luton Hoo, on a scale of 1-10 and 10 being the best comes in at 3. The brasserie, is like a costa coffee, its poor lighting leaves no warmth and ambience. just blinding bright light chandeliers and lack of comfort and style. first and last visit there too. the staff at the entire establishment could do with a course at the school for charm too!

Review 10:Location to Luton and my family. the grounds.

Review 11:nothing

Review 12:Everything ? beautiful location non intimidating staff very friendly . Beautiful spa and hot stone massage. Totally chilled and room service food amazing x

Review 13:Sadly The infinity pool was out of service so we was unable to use it, we visited the spa and booked 2 treatments each. Me and my mum both payed for a back, neck and shoulder massage however the lady I had only massaged my back which was a little disappointing.. I felt that the spa treatments were a little over priced.

Review 14:The hotel was very ornate, and the building itself, interior design and the grounds were effortlessly beautiful. On arrival and throughout our stay at the hotel all the staff were very welcoming and friendly. We had breakfast included in our stay which was lovely so overall the hotel was worth every penny that we paid.

Review 15:As I was going to a Naming Ceremony due to begin at 2 p.m. I asked for an early check in. My god daughter (whose baby was being named and who was there for four nights) also asked that my room be ready by noon. The room wasn't ready by noon and there were various hold ups which was a nuisance, esp. as I'd also phone beforehand and was assured that an early check in would be no trouble.

Review 16:Hotel and location excellent. Good food though service at breakfast was a little slow. Grounds are beautiful.

Review 17:Vitality pool was closed, which was a disappointment. Decor is rather dated in places. Breakfast choice for room service was rather poor.

Review 18:Very friendly and polite staff, superb service and food at dinner, very impressive property in a picturesque location.

Review 19:Breafast food excellent. Staff were not organised. it was a shame , as it only requires training. maitre D was hopeless.

Review 20:Large comfortable room ,. it was in the main house. Beautiful view. great Room Service.

Review 21:Spa is average doesn't have any of the wow factor the rest of the house and grounds do.

Review 22:Mansion house is beautiful amazing dining room first class breakfast.

Review 23:No accessible full length mirror, no safe that I could find! door lock did not work. ( room 3 in Mansion) No water by bed . Room a little stark

Review 24:Attentive staff, comfortable room with lovely outlook.

Review 25:Never been so well looked after as soon as we walked in, we were offered help with absolutely everything. Stunning grounds and absolutely beautiful rooms. A fantastic weekend

Review 26:The distance to the spa as it was annoying having to go between sites with wet hair in the cold after relaxing

Review 27:The spa it was amazing and the bed also the size of the room and the gorgeous breakfast

Review 28:When I booked the restaurant I was not told it would be a set menu, my son was really looking forward to a burger which was on the main menu.

Review 29:The food was excellent

Review 30:décor very dated, although trying to keep in period have used poor reproductions and has recently re-vamped. Room was spacious but gold taps and corner baths do not do it for me. Just felt tired and didn't have a wow factor. Food above average - just.

Review 31:beautiful building & grounds. Friendly staff.

Review 32:The rooms are a bit old fashioned but comfortable and very spacious.

Review 33:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was excellent and the grounds were beautiful.

Review 34:A beautiful hotel set in spectacular grounds. Staff were extremely attentive and the food and service excellent. Will defiantly be staying there again

Review 35:Breakfast.plates cold for hot food !!! Spa shabby, carpet blackened not a luxury feel at all. Treatment v good though.

Review 36:Lounge, garden, spacious layout. Service excellent.

Review 37:The spa was a bit of a let down.

Review 38:We had dinner in the main hotel, the food was lovely we all enjoyed every course. Very clean, staff very helpful, on the whole you pay for what you get.

Review 39:When we checked in we were disappointed to be given a room at the 'Country Club' which is not part of the main house. We had to drive to this location and haul our luggage up to the room ourselves. Once in the room we switched on the A/C only to have it making a loud noise. Eventually (after 3 calls to reception) we were moved to the main house and upgraded to a suite. The Manager of the hotel was most helpful.

Review 40:Upgrade to a Suite in the main building, lovely grounds, stunning location near the river

Review 41:The iron didn't work in our room and it took 55 mins for the room service to get us a replacement

Review 42:The taxi to and fro from the mansion plus the grounds

Review 43:We found staff unhelpful when trying to locate where we were staying as we were not in the main house. The decor in the hallway looked tired. The bathroom sinks were not clean. I unfortunately left behind my mobile phone charger and it took a week for a response and it was not located.

Review 44:The house grounds and location are beautiful

Review 45:there wasn't anything we didn't like!

Review 46:the room was lovely overlooking the courtyard and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly - and it was fantastic being upgraded to a suite for my husband's b'day!

Review 47:The slight over formality of the dining room - I think we have moved on from men having to wear jackets for the sake of it - they can still be smart (or perhaps smarter) without

Review 48:The spa, the beautiful surroundings, the 19th hole and a delicious breakfast

Review 49:A little more clarity on the web site as to where the bedrooms were located and perhaps the taxis arouind the site could do with a major overhaul but they were a distinct novelty.

Review 50:The rooms were excellent, clean and comfortable. The facilities were easy to find and close to our rooms. However, it was the friendlyness of the staff that really made the weekend for us.

Review 51:Not so much a bad experience but I felt some of the externals of the buildings needed a freshen up and the gardens/external areas needed some attention.

Review 52:The staff were very attentive and did everything asked of them

Review 53:Breakfast was shambolic needs a total re think. Hotel was full and the catering service suffered badly. Front of house was well staffed but the service did not quite tick.

Review 54:Room in main hotel and hotel location. Bar and lounge area are very nice.

Review 55:Spa was a let down, over priced, customer service under par and quality of the treatments left a lot to be desired

Review 56:Hotel was lovely - great room, great location and stunning grounds

Review 57:Not bad experience, but room service menu was very limited (6 or 7 main options, one soup of the day (slightly odd concoctions both days), a few desserts, and a cheese plate). Had the burger one night, which was ok (nothing special though) ... regretted trying the prawn curry the next night, because the prawns were tiny, it had an incongruous assortment of vege's scattered throughout (eggplant, zucchini), and it came with a dollop of rice in the middle that seemed to have been sitting for far too long and had dried out and stuck together into a single inedible clump ... to be frank, I wondered whether it was a frozen microwave dinner from the supermarket bulked up with some leftover veg's from the kitchen! This was a major disappointment because we did not have transport to go elsewhere, and I did not expect an establishment of this calibre to have such a poor showing on the in-room dining. Also, the bed was only a regular queen size - the room was very large and a king size would have been the more sensible option in my view.

Review 58:Beautiful grounds and buildings, room quiet and ample in size, bed comfortable, separate shower cubicle (not over bath ... yay!). Staff were all very receptive and helpful.

Review 59:Breakfast could do with some better options of musli / milk, as well enduring that the food is hot.

Review 60:if you are into spa, golf and fresh air whilst wanting some romantic times with your partner, this is a place to go! We loved the swimming pool, afternoon tea and the golf! Would definitely come back!

Review 61:5 star prices and 3 star staff. Waiting staff seem inexperienced and more interested in each other than guests. Couldn't even get drinks order right for two of us.

Review 62:Beautiful locAtion and lovely grounds.

Review 63:Rude staff 2 star quality sleeping block Misleading website. Most guest rooms are in a new block and 2 star quality whilst you thought you had booked a 5 star luxury hotel

Review 64:The main building

Review 65:The dinner was poor quality. We weren't affered a space in the manner house when we booked.

Review 66:The history of the place, spa as well as the building itself.

Review 67:Service in brasserie was rubbish I left a tip but I wish I could of left it with the chef. Their food is being done an injustice by rubbish service. We had to ask for drinks twice, everyone around us got bread as they sat down we had to ask twice. Not very good at all.

Review 68:Food was great Location great Spa was lovely Cocktails tasty Food was amazing

Review 69:The endless low frequency rumbles from Luton Airport were very unpleasant in spite of sound-proofing. The room lighting was unacceptably darLk and dingy - I would not consider staying in such a very dark room again.

Review 70:Loved the grounds and the refurbished public spaces in the mansion house. Also the smell of wood smoke. Staff couldn't have been more polite or helpful - a refreshing change!

Review 71:I was disappointed with the room for what we paid. It was meant to be a junior suite but just didn't have that luxurious feel to it. I have stayed before and stayed in nicer rooms. The rooms above the top of the staircase are beautiful but our room this time was the other side of the hotel. The view was great but you have to stand on the balcony edge to see it so the decking should be made higher to be able to sit and enjoy the view on a nice day

Review 72:The spa is great, very relaxing and gorgeous on a rainy day

Review 73:We were made very welcome, the staff were helpful and friendly, particularly the doormen Loved the building and the interior, & the non stop shuttle service around the grounds

Review 74:The general staff are Not trained to Five star standards, their uniforms look very cheap, A fabulous property not being used to its full potential.

Review 75:The rooms in the main house were of a good size some with beautiful views

Review 76:This was our second visit so the first must have been okay too....we had a room near the spa this time which was large with a lovely seating area looking over the putting green and first tee ....as we are golfer this was lovely .as always the. Olson brown goodies are very welcome and the breakfast in the brasserie very good ...the golf course was in pretty good condition for the time of year and the tee times well spaced ...

Review 77:As I said before our fridge didn't work nor did its replacement we were offered a different room but to be honest we couldn't be bothered to move I asked for a concession for this but got no reduction I rang for the mng to comment but he hasn't bothered ringing back

Review 78:The food and helpfulness of staff

Review 79:No sky sports Slow service in lounge for dinner Dressing gowns a bit hard ( starchy) No sky sports!!!!!

Review 80:The facilities The bed The bathroom The breakfast

Review 81:It was a valentine visit but the meal was a let down :- our order took 40 mins arrive then no sauce also meal was cold, then ordered room service breakfast and that also arrived cold too so we cancelled our lunch reservation in the lounge jazz room. That spoilt the whole trip

Review 82:Fantastic room with a 4 poster bed, the ground were amazing to take a slow walk for about an hour, the venue was just superb and clean.

Review 83:Quality of the main restaurant had slipped since previous visits. Dirty cutlery -- Tables lined up very impersonal- Food Good but not up to previous experience

Review 84:The location - The Staff - Nice Room - All round comfort - Its a quality hotel

Review 85:Having to go home:(

Review 86:Everything, staff were amazing, food was gorgeous, venue and grounds - spectacular. Ready to book up again for next yr- feel well and truly spoilt. Well done Luton Hoo

Review 87:I love the Luton hop the staff are always amazing the atmosphere is perfect the grounds beautiful I've stayed many times here and made use of the spa facilities enjoyed amazing food and wines and slept beautifully in the bed the rooms are lovely and the decor in the bathroom encourages that candlelight soak in the bath after a long walk around the estate!!!! the chocolate strawberries are also very yummy too perfect x

Review 88:Missing out on morning coffee in one of the beautiful drawing rooms - we needed to have booked.

Review 89:We were contacted ahead as the restaurant was going to be very busy and we would have needed to make a booking for dinner. The choice of fresh coffee/instant/tea in the mini bar

Review 90:Booking.com rate price is for a room away from the mansion at the golf/spa building, despite me specially requesting for a mansion room with garden or parkland view as it was a Xmas family treat. I was assured by Booking.com that my request was granted with a mansion room but this was not the case when I checked in. Trouble service from Booking.com and the advertised information is NOT correct. Disappointed !!

Review 91:Excellent Hotel and but terrible service from Booking.com

Review 92:It was a shame that the resteraunt in the main building was closed on the night we visited (Monday),

Review 93:The Spa was brilliant. The whole ambience of these historical building in the 'Capablity Brown' estate was wonderful.

Review 94:Adams Brasserie was disappointing foodwise and overpriced - not to mention losing my reservation, staff were well-meaning but amateurish - lights dimmed in lounge at 6pm so that reading became impossible, phonecalls to switchboard were answered very slowly, wrong kind of bed in bedroom in spite of reservation, bedroom badly overlooked by passing golfers and firedoor outside banging shut disturbed sleep.

Review 95:Beautiful public rooms, excellent spa, very good breakfast. Friendly staff, comfortable beds, spacious bathrooms and bedrooms with thoughtful amenities. Efficient housekeeping and room service.

Review 96:Everything about this hotel is amazing, the staff are friendly and the service is exceptional. the grounds are amazing and the food out of this world. I have stayed a couple of times before and absolutely plan to spend more time here in the future. I have already book my next stay for January and have booked my entire family in with me for my parents wedding anniversary. Highly recommend the Luton Hoo for any occasion.

Review 97:Hated I didn't bring my golf clubs!

Review 98:Great location, great history, loved the little taxis to get us to the flower garden accomodstion. Loved the saunas, the pool, the brasserie

Review 99:One of the chairs on the patio outside our room was broken

Review 100:This was chosen by a colleague living locally as a special place to hold a college reunion and we were not disappointed. This is a large stately home with a lot of history and restored to look very grand. It happens to be very close to the M1 and Luton airport and station so suited our party of 90 people very nicely. We were lucky to be able to book a room for the night - definitely worth the money.

Review 101:Quality of food and atmosphere in the brasserie wasn't a patch on the main restaurant.

Review 102:A beautiful setting, delicious food, attentive and professional staff. We enjoyed a very relaxed 3 nights here and would definitely return.

Review 103:Too busy, too much going on. Difficult to find a quiet spot on Saturday morning in any of the lounges. Majority of seating area appeared to be laid up for breakfast until quite late in the morning, then laid up for afternoon tea.

Review 104:Staff attitude was excellent, our room was very comfortable and the food in the Werner Restaurant was first class. Grounds were lovely and a pleasure to walk round.

Review 105:Table for about 10 of us not available until 9.30. Poor meal choices and adequate but not 5 star quality when received. Seemed that any staff still under training.

Review 106:Room layout and private garden area. Taxi service. Breakfast choice. Knowledgeable staff very good, and all staff polite.

Review 107:Decor unwelcoming Very cold room Toilet flush not working properly (took 4+ flushes) Drain pipes very noisy and loud gurgling sounds from bathroom

Review 108:Big room

Review 109:Having to wait for service at Adam's Brasserie. There seemed to be plenty of staff milling around, so why did it take 45 minutes to get our main course after we'd already waited half an hour for our starters? Couldn't fault the quality, but didn't enjoy the food being served so late, especially as we'd had to wait till 9pm to get a table - went to bed too full and woke with stomach ache as a result.

Review 110:The setting, the public rooms, the comfy bed, the croquet game ready and waiting with a handy tree to shelter under when a shower of rain hit. Breakfast was lovely, but unfortunately I didn't have much appetite for it because of eating so late the night before. The swimming pool was great, and most of the controls in the jacuzzi worked (we were told by a regular that there's always something not working - this week it was the bench jets).

Review 111:All staff, from the moment of arrival, were attentive without being intrusive.....and particularly helpful in locating a 'lost' personal item between our room and the Brasserie.

Review 112:Nothing really, although my fiancé didn't like it when I beat her at croquet. I know, chivalry isn't what it used to be.

Review 113:This place really has the Wow! factor. I couldn't to afford to stay there all the time, but as an occasional treat (her birthday) it really is worth the extra money. A walk in the grounds, a relaxing drink in the garden, a swim and a spa - the whole experience was fabulous, and the food was the best we've ever had.

Review 114:The time was to short

Review 115:the building and surroundings are spectacular. The staff extremely kind, always pending of us with service and questions. The restaurant had reasonable prices. The accommodation, the bilding magnificent.

Review 116:service charges for room service and being charged for telephone calls that we didn't make

Review 117:Gorgeous rooms with lots of outside areas to eat and enjoy the weather. 24 hour food and drink available

Review 118:Lucky enough to get an upgrade on my room, so had a beautiful terrace overlooking the golf course and lake. lovely staff and great food. Perfect get a way for a busy mum for a night of R&R with a friend

Review 119:Would have liked some live Piano music in the Lounge, just a little point, as piano music was lovely too.

Review 120:Beautiful Hotel well decorated and very period dated, with great furnishings and ambience, super location for our 40th Wedding anniversary.

Review 121:Dead spider hanging from its web directly above the bed which took my wife by surprise on the first night when she laid down! Very slow service on the terrace.

Review 122:Lovely place, staff are all very helpful and friendly. Been 3 times now and will stay again.

Review 123:Extraordinary location near London, very good services, very nice rooms and good and relaxing time spent here. I will surely come back.
