Reviews for The Crown Inn
Review 1:For the two nights I stayed, there was a problem with the boiler, resulting in not being able to have a hot shower - which, in the middle of Winter after a day of walking, was frustrating. Though the staff apologised, there was no effort made to assist me in any way/no compensation suggested. Not ideal. The heater in my room also didn't work, so the first nights stay I was unwashed and without heat. The second day they provided a small heater, which was good.
Review 2:Rooms were clean and staff were friendly. Breakfast options were plentiful and the food was good. Location is great.
Review 3:Great location, we had views of the harbour and the castle from our room (11). All the staff were wonderful, really friendly and professional. The room and hotel were spotless, a warm and cosy place to stay. I loved the shower, the water pressure was amazing. The Crown is also dog friendly, thank you.
Review 4:The front rooms faced onto the sea which is idyllic when its a lovely sunny day but a bit noisy when Storm Desmond is passing! - not the hotel's fault.
Review 5:The friendliness of the people was second to none and the food was really good.
Review 6:There was really cold in the room. Heating was switched off at 10pm. Pump in shower doesn't work properly.
Review 7:Localization. Staff was very helpfull. Good food in restaurant .
Review 8:Wi-Fi was not available throughout hotel as advertised - only in the lounge and lobby. This was one key requirement for my selection and it was not as advertised.
Review 9:Friendly staff and great food
Review 10:Our room was next to the only night club in Stornaway which was open till late on Saturday night A room on the opposite side would have been better
Review 11:Food was good and staff were friendly.
Review 12:Everything was perfect
Review 13:The staff were very friendly and helpful, family room was perfect and a good size, breakfast was delicious and the hotel offers good menus, coffee, cakes scones and cocktails were excellent
Review 14:(1) There's a club across the pedestrian laneway that seems to have patrons outside and talking loudly until about 2:00am on a Sunday morning. This would not be a problem but it seems that some windows don't fit as closely as they should. (2) Shower water pressure was pitiful. It took me 20 minutes to wash my hair when normally it would take less than 5 minutes. I believe the hotel was to close the week after I was there to rectify some of these problems.
Review 15:The staff in general did as well as one could reasonably expect in a hotel that re-opened in May after several years of neglect but re-opened with several problems that should have been fixed prior to taking guests (e.g. water pressure, heating, poor fit to some windows).
Review 16:Woeful shower water pressure, plumbing odour. Small rooms. Situated above a noisy pub, particularly bad in fri/sat night, noise until 3am. Situated on a boy racer drive-by route. Firedoors noisy in corridor.
Review 17:Lovely staff, great breakfast. Convenient to centre of town and ferry. Clean.
Review 18:The staff are very knowledgeable in the local area, and a very friendly bunch who will go above and beyond to please all guests, a total joy to stay at the Crown Inn
Review 19:I left some stuff in my room, this hotel went away and above what I would have expected to reunite me. Fantastic attitude and service. Proud to review this establishment..
Review 20:Poor sound insulation and noisy neighbours. Very noisy extractor fan. Internet code difficult to obtain and only accessible in bar. Unfinished Breakfast cleared away while attempting to obtain wifi code at unmanned reception. Short staffed.
Review 21:Friendly receptionist on arrival.
Review 22:They had issues with the water pressure (which is being fixed in October) so the shower was very poor which wasn't ideal after a day's cycling! They did tell us when we checked in but there wasn't much to be done by that stage.
Review 23:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Had dinner there and food was delicious!! Very impressed!
Review 24:The water pressure in the shower was very weak although the lady did explain this up front. Wi-Fi not available in guest rooms.
Review 25:The property was new and clean. The food and bar staff were very good. The night porter did vey well with a very early breakfast.
Review 26:Only slight complaint was the shower which was very low pressure however this was explained when we arrived and there was a problem waiting to be fixed
Review 27:Perfect location to use as a base for exploring Harris and Lewis, lovely restaurant and bar, staff very friendly
Review 28:We had a nice surprise when realized that instead of the usual common room - often a bit cramped - the family room was composed of two connecting rooms recently refurbished. Wi-Fi was available only in common areas but the family room is located near the reception and we could take advantage of the connection also within the room. They have a restaurant with a view: choice is not huge but the food is good and the staff is nice.
Review 29:Family room 17, opposite a nightclub with the windows open, almost unbearable noise, you need to move your family room to a quiet area as we had very little sleep, although we were notified of all the negatives on arrival, not sure that's a good thing.
Review 30:Friendly staff, family room beautifully laid out, food excellent and nice atmosphere in the hotel. We would recommend this hotel as long as it's not room 17. The hotel is being renovated, so there are snags but overall a lovely job is being done.
Review 31:Both wifi and tv were defect. No alternative solution offered - we found free WiFi in the bar next door and it also worked in the hotel. Restaurant closed on Sundays like everything in Stornoway. Yes, it's the local religious tradition, but some barfood or at least sandwiches would have been nice. Having to go to bed hungry in a hotel this price level is not acceptable...
Review 32:Nice place, very close to both city center and harbor. Nice modern rooms, good bed, nice breakfast, nice bar.
Review 33:Saturday night was a bit noisy - but we just decided to join in and went out for some ceilidh music!
Review 34:Lovely staff - Very hard-working and still able to be really helpful and genuinely friendly. Good base for exploring the island and conveniently close to the ferry for an early start - were given breakfast at 5:30 am!
Review 35:Would be nice if they developed the restaurant as its an ideal location overlooking harbour
Review 36:There was a problem with shower . Staff were really good at handling complaint and gave us a partial refund . Very pleasant staff . Great location and comfortable room
Review 37:Night club right next door: drinkers hang out in the street rather than inside the club, yelling and braying. It's incredibly loud, and the noise is constant from 10pm to 2:30am - impossible to sleep.
Review 38:The staff are wonderful, the location of the hotel is perfect, the rooms' interior looks brand new and makes the hotel feel a lot higher class than the outside suggests.
Review 39:A bit noisy on the Saturday night as our room was situated above the main drag, but nothing compared to what you'd expect in any other capital.
Review 40:Friendly and welcoming, helpful staff and top notch food. All in all a wonderful stay I can happily recommend and one I look forward to visiting again soon.
Review 41:1) size of bed was too small 2) size of room is pokey 3) internet does not work throughout hotel 4) street noise on a Friday evening
Review 42:Eventual location & nice staff.
Review 43:Menu (evening meal) was limited and very disappointing. Breakfast was poor (poached eggs far too much vinegar, bacon excessively salty, black pudding overcooked. Extremely noisy all night. Poor water pressure. WiFi intermittent. We felt that the price (over £100 per night) for B & B was excessive.
Review 44:Staff were courteous and attentive.
Review 45:We were almost put off by the exterior look of the house, it needs a bit TLC.
Review 46:Staff was more than friendly and helpful. Very nice, warm and charming atmosphere. Food was delicious. We will come back!
Review 47:Overall customer service very poor. Staff didn't seem to know what they were doing. Items not available on the menu. Kept waiting too long for service at the bar. Water cut off overnight due to plumbing issues. No apologies or discount offered. No lounge area for guests. Very overpriced.
Review 48:Conveniently located hotel, near to port area and town centre. Recently refurbished inside.
Review 49:The price seemed higher than the facilities warranted. The street outside got quite noisy on the Friday night.
Review 50:The staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. The location is slap bang in the middle of Stornoway and provides easy access to all the local facilities. Despite feeling that the price was a little high, I would still recommend the Crown Inn.
Review 51:Shower took at least 10 minutes to get hot water, and I'm not even exaggerating. No wifi in rooms, and I couldn't find any wifi in the public spaces either. Incredibly noisy--walls must be paper thin, could hear everything going on in the next room, hall and outside, and sink gurgled all night though not in use?? Also heating was periodic at best.
Review 52:Excellent breakfast, located right near the ferry terminal
Review 53:nothing
