Reviews for Continental Hotel

Review 1:Room smelt fusty, cold on arrival, TV and heater plugs did not fit wall sockets, carpets did not fit the room, en suite door rotten at base, missing broken mirror light, toilet flush handle loose in system, bath /shower tap control poored water everywhere, shower rose sprayed water all over the place except where it should be, Brocken tiles, no tea or coffee making facilities in room, finally, breakfast is a complete joke in an adjoining tatty cafe. The owner could not run a bath never mind a b&b!!! This place should be shut down or at very least removed from your site!!! If this is the type of accommodation you advertise then you should be ashshamed! I will never use your site again!!!

Review 2:Getting out of the worst accommodation I have ever experienced !

Review 3:Dingy, dirty and in need of a complete refurb. Security non existent as Windows and balcony doors did not lock. Single damp lumpy beds and no protection from outside noise which was mainly drunken singing and arguing. No hot water.

Review 4:Cannot find a good thing that I can share

Review 5:No lift working we were on the 3rd floor no key to open front door to get out of building got one next day Rooms very basic camping beds

Review 6:Location spot on

Review 7:Cleanliness of the entire room. Rodent infestation.

Review 8:Had to wipe my feet on the way out. Balcony was a disgrace and I believe the whole hotel has now been condemned

Review 9:Seems like Hotel is changing owners and maybe the new owners can update this Hotel to its former glory. (beds very old with springs you could feel, and toilets that wouldn't always flush, lift not working) Though location is good, the noise level from outside means hardly any sleep. (sound seems to echo around buildings) A tea/coffee making facility would have been appreciated.

Review 10:Friendly staff. Central location for shops, bars etc Breakfast cafe good.

Review 11:Hotel, which apparently has been sold, is fairly rundown. Room (not air conditioned--not unusual in Europe of course) was fairly hot (air doesn't move in the narrow streets) and really noisy at night because of pedestrians, garbage pickup etc. (A big fan would have a big difference).

Review 12:Great price relative to other hotels in GIB. Great location. Desk staff vey nice.

Review 13:Very dated, needs money spending on it to bring it into the 21st century. At 100 GBP's per night, it really needs improvements.

Review 14:The hotel is in the heart of the town and has easy access to bars/taxi's/shops etc. Breakfast...not bad, but had better

Review 15:Hotel very dated, tatty, dirty and musty smelling. Very noisy at night from street. Lift not working. No air-conditioning or kettle etc

Review 16:Friendly helpful staff.

Review 17:£120/180 Euro for a triple room. No AC. Breakfast hard to describe... 4-5 'menus' to chose from, level below anything we ever had. The whole dining room was full of fat in the air. Hotel seems as time stood still 50 years ago - while the condition of it went down the drain without anyone having an eye on it. Slanted bed legs, holes in the wall, ugly carpets... this Hotel shouldn't have any star. Oh, elevator broken... nice to carry all the luggage trough the tiny stairway up to the 3rd floor. Lucky we haven't been higher... we are really not picky, but this was a real bad one.

Review 18:Right at the main street, well located.

Review 19:The fact that the lifts and the air conditioning were not working, and it was in this heatwave. The staff dis provide us with a rotating fan.

Review 20:The staff were excellent and very friendly considering the position they are in with the hotel up for sale.

Review 21:No real greeting on arrival, just told the lift was broken and there was no aircon in our room. We were on the second floor and a portable cooling fan had been provided which had a 2 hour timer which needed resetting throughout the night. Sticky, stained carpet, stained bed sheets, could easily feel bed springs through the bed sheets, therefore uncomfortable, ill fitting shower head held on with wire, green corrosion on toilet flush button, 2 pin TV plug forced into 3 pin socket, noisy outside at night and early hours due to people (staff?) congregating outside main entrance with mobile phones, and street cleaning in early hours (5AM?). Exposed metal wiring on light in landing. Staff performed ironing and laid out paper receipts/accounts in the public /customer landing on the 1st floor. Tatty, photocopied breakfast menus. Room not cleaned during our 3 day stay. Wifi very weak and intermittent in room. Finally noticed "For sale" signs went up on external walls on the 3rd day ! The hotel had clearly had an upmarket feel once with marble walls, stairs and over staircase stained glass skylight but looked run down now.

Review 22:It was the only room we could find available for our dates with 3 separate beds. It had a central location. Nice coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice for breakfast. Reasonable price. Staff were friendly. Breakfast room was actually a ground floor café, open all day to the public.

Review 23:The door that didn't fit the door frame, the lightfitting in the shower, the lack of safe in the room, the breakfast. Would not go back if I was paid to. In fac I was book in for a week but walked out after one night.

Review 24:Location was nice and central

Review 25:the room was very small. the bed was not comfortable. broken elavator. the hotel was sold and no repair was done and you shouldnt recomand that hotel till it is good

Review 26:the staff really tried to compensate for hotel's poor condition.

Review 27:The whole hotel was drab.13 amp wall sockets but TV,fridge and portable A/C had two pin plugs.so could not get them to work Shower was taped up needed replacing

Review 28:The Breakfast

Review 29:Great location but very run down and old fashioned. Staff were helpful but it was not worth the price. Breakfast was very limited and not of good standard.

Review 30:The hotel is old and could do with modernising. There was a party of young men staying there who were very noisy in the early hours up to 06:00.

Review 31:The hotel is located just off Main Street and is very convenient for the centre.

Review 32:Requested that some of the payment be in cash, rather than by credit card. This was very strange. The water was neither hot nor cold, just tepid from both taps. Okay for showers, but not for a bath.

Review 33:Very friendly staff who went out of their way to help. I.e Free bottled water, milk and juice.

Review 34:The room we stayed in was drab and dismal, and desperate for a lick of paint. We wouldn't have wanted to stay any longer than one night.

Review 35:Staff were friendly and more than happy to look after our luggage on the day we left while we went shopping. Breakfast good too with delicious fresh orange juice.

Review 36:Very noisy through out the day but given its location that is to be expected. The toilet didn't work properly but the staff were on hand to help so this didn't matter so much.

Review 37:Staff were great. Breakfast was good considering the little amount we paid for our stay. Nice central area.

Review 38:It was noisy at night...but that's the price we pay for being in the center of town.

Review 39:That it was in the center of town. It was clean. The staff were very accommodating and a good breakfast.

Review 40:No hot water for bathing in the evening. Kettle stopped working and they couldn't supply another. Not able to get car to front door. Was made out to be 4 star but in fact I wouldn't give it one star!

Review 41:The breakfast. Staff were polite and friendly.

Review 42:Came home covered in bites don't no whether or not to do with the bedding or not but don't think it helped

Review 43:I could not fault the wifi or the receptionist however we booked with breakfast which was nice but then they closed the kitchen after two days of our stay our bedding was not changed for the whole stay 5 days.

Review 44:The room was very noisy, street cleaners out a. 7am each morning. Very uncomfortable bed, thread worn carpets, needs general TLC !!

Review 45:The staff were warm friendly and very helpful

Review 46:the rooms were very grotty and need a complete overhaul. The whole hotel had a very strange smell about it. The doors to the rooms looked like people had tried to break into them on several occasions. We stayed at this hotel as we got married in Gibraltar that day, therefore, it made our first night as a married couple a very poor experience. .

Review 47:We didnt like anything about this hotel

Review 48:The bed mattress was not comfy and needs replacing. The shower head had a leak and sprayed water all over the floor of bathroom and wet the rooms carpet next to the door with the shower curtain in place. The toilet lid falls into you when you sit on the loo. The room just needs some maintenance and a refresh of decor. Poor choice for breakfast either eggs on toast and bacon, croissant no cereal option.

Review 49:It's a cheap hotel in a great central location. The staff were friendly and helpful. You can watch uk tv!

Review 50:The hotel is in need of updating and many many small repairs are needed but the staff make up for this and would recommend highly.

Review 51:The staff could not do enough for us. They were brilliant. Took me and car to a free car park in his own time. Lovely, lovely people.

Review 52:Poor bed. Tied dacor unfriendly breakfast staff. Poor breakfast. Most expensive hotel of week. But it was in GiB so expected.

Review 53:Hot water centre of town great location. Nice guy on reception in morning filled our water bottle's. Abdul who greeted us was nice guy welcoming.

Review 54:Bathroom was poor: shower curtain didn't fit; fittings were tired-looking. Worst was the fact that the window (with completely clear glass) was overlooked by a room in the building opposite (about 10 metres away) and there was no way to cover the window with e.g. blinds for privacy. The bedroom would also benefit from re-decoration.

Review 55:Such a shame that they do not update the rooms. They are so dated, and the windows need double glazed Needs re carpeted etc

Review 56:Friendly and helpful staff.Decent breakfast, good coffee, fresh orange Super location, Lots of hot water

Review 57:Not suitable as a holiday hotel. I stayed for only one night thankfully. The first room they put me in was horrendous, but thankfully they came and told me they had to move me. Not even hangers in the wardrobes or a cup for a glass of water

Review 58:Breakfast and checkout.

Review 59:Pretty disappointing, particularly for the expensive amount paid for the room. Bed was quite uncomfortable, had to attach the shower head with a shower curtain ring or would have to have held it, ran out of hot water, not overly clean.

Review 60:The location is great. Staff friendly

Review 61:Although the location like any other in a city suffered from street noise. Also the room was little dark.

Review 62:A good location in the centre of Gib, about a 25 minute walk from the airport, close to the city square. Plenty of restaurants, bars and shops to choose from. The hotel offered a welcoming staff, a clean room & bathroom, a café with a family environment. Satisfied the plan of a quiet weekend in the winter sun with no demand on driving anywhere. Would probably stay again.

Review 63:Hotel is very dated and has some issues with wear, I was there for 3 nights and experienced issues with the plug in the sink sticking down, hot water and very weak WIFI signal. The windows aren't double glazed and the noise from outside can be disruptive up to 03:00am and the road cleaners start at 06:00 which act as a good alarm clock!!

Review 64:Breakfast in the cafe next door was really nice, it is a shame that they only start serving it at 08:00 when the hotel stats that it is served from 07:30.

Review 65:The place was filthy, the mattress had springs coming through. The safe was a joke, it was a locked drawer in the wardrobe. The breakfast was a slice of toast, a glass of orange and a cup of tea. Although it states checking out was 12 noon we were asked to leave at 11.30. The smell from the resturant was all through the hotel. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Review 66:The only thing we liked was the location.

Review 67:Noise from street all night, due to road cleaners, sweepers/washer, and from delivery trucks/vehicles as well as drunk revellers. old squeky bed no room cleaning service the three nights there

Review 68:Friendly and accomodating manager free wi fi good selection of TV chanels central location for attractions/shopping

Review 69:Probably overpriced but i would stay again.

Review 70:Brilliant location in the centre with loads going on near by. Nice choice of hot breakfast. Plenty of hot water and clean but tired looking room. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Free WiFi.

Review 71:General maintaence of room door and main door were a huge safety risk, and need immediate attention. Fact. Nauseating smell of greasy fat throughout the hotel. Gibraltar hotels are very expensive in general, so although this hotel seemed expensive for what we had infact having stayed at other hotels the price was appropriot. NOT A ROMANTIC GETTAWAY,!!

Review 72:The staff were very friendly and did their best to make us comfortable. Breakfast was good.

Review 73:Noise from the street cleaning machines early morning, the cooking smell from the café downstairs.

Review 74:Location, friendly reception, good bed and large room

Review 75:The room looked clean on the surface but was in fact dirty. I found a condom wrapper in my bedside drawer. The room was very cold and very tired looking. There was a lot of noise from children running up and down the communal area shouting and screaming (not necessarily the hotel's fault). Breakfast was very poor, only coffee, tea, juice or toast offered.

Review 76:The location of the hotel was excellent, perfect for exploring all of Gibraltar's main attractions by foot.

Review 77:Too long time to get hot water in bath Broken bed side light No proper breakfast on 1st day Room was not attended daily No fresh towels - had to ask for them Fried eggs on toast every day - no breakfast variety juice arrived after coffee

Review 78:Manager was friendly

Review 79:Hotel needs a complete overhaul, the rooms smelt of burning oil from cafe below, one plug in room which was dangerous, one night of hot water the rest of stay Luke warm or cold water, one towel between two people , house keeping non existent, used condom wrappers in draws , if you want breakfast go and buy it somewhere else tv in room had wrong plug on it so could not be watched , beds so old need replacing , wet carpet which never dryed out , no heating in room , had to ask for heater and blanket , do not stay at this hotel

Review 80:Good location

Review 81:no wifi in the rooms, again, and embarrassingly nasty breakfast. When will these people learn that they are supposed to be offering a service for the money we give them. View of the next building

Review 82:room was o.k. did expect some good english tv though. and yet another dinosaur hotel with lousy wifi. i don't want to have to be in some pokey lobby to go online. Skype conversations are not the stuff for a lobby. And breakfast was a joke. The hotel's attached to a cafe, but don't let that fool you. toast is all there is, and lousy coffee. just appalling. Very expensive for what it is

Review 83:You get what you pay for so while the hotel was clean it was a little tired and old. It is basic but it is a 2 star so I expected that and found it good value. The cafe for breakfast was busy and simple but full of character and personality. The service was excellent all round so to be honest that made up for any aesthetic issues that you'd expect for a 2 star. Wifi was rubbish in the room though!

Review 84:The warmth and helpfulness of the staff was second to none. Whether it was the manager himself Abdull or the staff in the cafe where we had breakfast everyone made us feel incredibly welcome. The location was perfect, and the manager advised us of what to see and the best way to experience the Rock. I'd recommend this as a low budget hotel with a lot of character and excellent coffee in the cafe!

Review 85:free breakfast was toast , tea and orange juice only. electric bar fire was dangerously close to bedding. handle pulled off inside room and I had to reassemble it to get out. disturbed nights sleep because of street noise.

Review 86:originally the location but it proved noisy

Review 87:The hotel is dreadfully outdated. The quality of furniture and equipment is poor. Paint was peeling off most of the bathroom ceiling. There was no heating. Single glazed windows meant it was noisy. Breakfast was 2 slices of toast only.

Review 88:Location is good and the shower worked. Lots of TV channels.

Review 89:We were bed and breakfast!!! The breakfast on first day was one cop of tea or coffee (no refill) one glass orange juice, 3 slices of toast, jam and butter. 2nd day breakfast was one cup of tea or coffee - we waited 40 minutes, but nothing else was forthcoming, On 3rd day, we went straight out and ate elsewhere. Breakfast served in cafe next door - staff surly and only interested in attending to cash customers - hotel guests are completely ignored. We will revisit Gib, but we wont make the mistake of staying ate the Continental again. For facilities, service and cleanliness, this hotel is minus two stars

Review 90:Location is great and room is a good size for a 1*.

Review 91:It's very neglected, not very clean and the room was smelly and noisy from the street. Breakfast was... 1 single toast...

Review 92:I got what I paid for, this place is much cheaper than other hotels in Gibraltar. The staff is friendly and the hotel is located on the Main Street which is main street of Gibraltar.

Review 93:The facilities are: 1) Extremely dated. 2) Hot water unreliable. 3) TV signal unreliable. 4) Carpets threadbare. 5) Heating only by plug-in radiator. 6) Towels and bedding have outlived their working lives.

Review 94:The Staff, very helpful and responded to complaints immediately. The location is right on Main St.

Review 95:cold in room when night. no kettle. poor breakfast. cold shower water. however u don't have many hotel choices in Gibraltar.

Review 96:perfect location. near airport and everywhere. very very very friendly , nice and good receptionist, he helped us a lot. really thank him.

Review 97:The room was in need of some TLC, the decor was a bit dated and gloomy with some of the mains plug sockets falling apart. No towels in bathroom, but was able to get some very easily. Was fine for me but besides the great location did not offer much in the way of value for money, I paid £50 per night for 2 weekday nights. Would pay less in Central London at a Travelodge.

Review 98:The Location was perfect about as central as it is possible to get in Gibraltar. The staff were all freindly and very helpfull and informative. Acccess to the site is easy, quick and simple. Facillities were adequet for me as a single traveller on a very short stay.

Review 99:-TV did not work (cable cord was severed nearly in half?!) -Outlet plugs did not work with the adapters (I don't think the prongs were long enough maybe) -Shower head did not fit in holder attached to wall -Shower head spewed water out of the sides & barely came out of the front

Review 100:-Location was prime & the parking garage was less than a block away! -Balcony was awesome to watch the foot traffic through the walking street!

Review 101:Lack of beverage making facility. When flight was diverted, the only way we could communicate with the hotel was with Booking, com as the phone was not answered.

Review 102:Location and warm, friendly welcome.

Review 103:some bedrooms are much nicer than others. we were unhappy with the first room we were given which was quite shabby but the manager was pleasant & helpful & moved us to a lovely room

Review 104:Right in the middle of town. Also you could walk up to the 'rock' from just behind the hotel. Bedroom was attractively decorated & bathroom spacious. The included continental breakfast is only toast or churos but the churos are so good that you don't mind! the breakfast room is actually a cafe so you can buy an english breakfast if you want. free & very good wi-fi

Review 105:The Continental is a basic hotel with large rooms, however the rooms were not serviced during our stay. The staff were very obliging and responded efficiently to any requests. The included continental breakfast was very limited but adequate. The hotel was quiet, but the area was noisy.

Review 106:we booked through booking.com which we have used several times. We have always paid by credit card but the man on reception was adamant he wanted cash. we had no proper bill or receipt.

Review 107:location was very good.

Review 108:Shower pressure was good however water was cold, rooms tired and need a coat of paint. Paint was peeling of the walls. Quite noisy if your in the front rooms.

Review 109:Good location, clean enough for a budget stay

Review 110:Hotel is in need of refurbishment, there seemed to be new owners? However, if there is a refurb, expect price to rise. Room I had first night was very poor, a staff room?, but again linen and bathroom clean. Rooms are not double glazed, so bring ear plugs.

Review 111:Centrally situated and staff are friendly and helpful. Linen and bathroom clean.

Review 112:Room not seemed to be cleaned properly. Although the bathroom is ok.

Review 113:Location is perfect. Just literally a stone's throw away from the Main Street. Staff helpful & friendly.

Review 114:We booked and payed for a deluxe room with hot tub with sofa and balcony and had the conformation to prove it.we were given a very small twin room when we were taken to it the person had to go out so we could go in, when complained we were told they could do nothing about it have to take it up with booking.com. The towels were dirty one had blood on it the other looked as if they had cleaned the floor with it. The door one push it came open, couldn't use the tele no controls, light with wire hanging out (this did have tape on it). Breakfast included no one seem to know what sort of breakfast so we ordered and was told only tea/coffee and toast to be fair the they did take the price off what we ordered. It spoilt my night in gibralta would not reccomend this to anyone This is the 1st time I ever complained about a hotel, we use booking.com a lot 4times this month alone

Review 115:Location was the only good thing about this place

Review 116:My room was on the street. Too much noise and light. Next time I would ask for a room in the back.

Review 117:Location, helpful staff and nice resturant off the lobby on the street.

Review 118:Breakfast included in the price was very poor. The room was noisy and beds hard.

Review 119:We liked the location - very close to everything. Staff were most helpful and friendly.

Review 120:Total lack of professionalism. Every issue was reactionary. TV didn't work. Wifi only worked in lobby. Breakfast was coffee, juice, toast. Answer to all questions was "you know we are only a 2 star hotel." They had no keys to enter your room to clean. Mine didn't get cleaned as I didn't leave my key at the desk as a signal to clean.

Review 121:Location

Review 122:Breakfast - coffee & toast was all that was available Hotel is VERY past it's sell by date Carpets were "sticky" Bathroom door actually fell off Wardrobe door was stuck Nothing like what we expected - in short I wouldn't let my dog stay there

Review 123:The noise outside on the street and the lack of a decent breakfast. No decent chairs in the room. The hotel is very tired and very shabby in places.

Review 124:Location, good memory foam bed, large bath and good shower.

Review 125:The hotel is small and dark. We struggled to get the bedroom doors open due to the key, the shower wouldn't fit into its holster and also sprayed water every which way other than down. Very out dated and in need of a good refurb. Sleeping was also a chore as the echoes around the streets of people talking entered loudly into the room.

Review 126:Location is really good. Right on the edge of the town centre close to the square.

Review 127:Noise,no glasses for water, shabby and a general lack of cleanliness.Above all the location of the hotel for noise, which was horrendous. My partner and i were getting married and we were both very tired because of the noise outside.Sorry continental hotel we will not return unless you invest in double glazing!!

Review 128:Cannot thing of anything or yes man at reception very helpful.

Review 129:The room smelt like the inside of a vacuum cleaner bag, presumably from the state of the carpet. The hotel staff were only available at check in, none after that. Breakfast was included, but was nothing special only toast and not so good coffee.

Review 130:Not much, the sheets seemed clean though. They did accommodate our bicycles.

Review 131:The room was very shabby and in desperate need of an upgrade (especially as it was sold as a 'deluxe' room - not even a glass to drink from in the room. Sold as offering continential breakfast only tea and toast on offer Noisy as on main shopping street and dustcarts clearing rubbish very early

Review 132:The staff were friendly and helpful Bed sheets clean and comfortable

Review 133:Breakfast was almost non existent - not much more than tea/coffee and toast. Hotel shabby.

Review 134:Excellent location - just off Main Street and within walking distance of airport, shops, taxis and sites at the lower levels. As a solo male traveller the hotel met my requirements but if I had been with my partner I would not have chosen this hotel,

Review 135:The poor rooms, the breakfast, lack of facilities despite the advert saying they had amenities required. The breakfast was just toast and coffee. Which we had to wait for over 30 mins. The advert mentioned a large family room with outdoor seating area and washing machine. It had none of these facilities.

Review 136:Location - the hotel is located just off Main Street so it is central to the town and all the shopping.

Review 137:This hotel needs a total refurb. Do not visit with children, safety not good e.g. Light fittings by beds had broken glass covers. Fire exit on our floor was blocked by chair, and we couldn't move the sliding door. Bathroom only had one hand towel and one bath towel for double room. Holes in carpet, tatty curtains.

Review 138:Staff were very helpful. Sheets clean.

Review 139:Rooms were changed and not what we reserved or expected.Did not correspond to the information given by booking.com Bullying attitude of the manager. Requested cash rather than credit card payment. One of the rooms was so filthy we refused it.

Review 140:Coffee, orange juice at breakfast. Prompt repair of faulty items in room.

Review 141:toilet didn't flush properly. breakfast wasn't breakfast - coffee & churros/toast only. very dated & some disrepair.

Review 142:it was clean. central location. beds were comfortable. check-in guy was helpful, no-one in sight on check-out.

Review 143:A little tired and basic facilities.

Review 144:A beautiful old hotel in the centre of town. Very basic, but good value for money. Most suited to the budget traveller. All staff most helpful, a pleasant stay.

Review 145:Uncomfortable bed. Single glazed so very noisy! Building work going on. Needs updating sooooo badly!

Review 146:Just off main street so great for going to meet people.
