Reviews for Applegarth Guest house
Review 1:Applegarth guests house is ideally situated within a short walk of the town centre. It's friendly owner makes you feel welcome and is happy to advise on dining out and points of interest. The bed was incredibly comfortable and breakfast is cooked freshly to order. Excellent value for money.
Review 2:Excellent position and comfort. Perfect for grandparents with granddaughter to visit the theatre. Very helpful and friendly in every aspect. We'll be back !!
Review 3:An excellent location for the theatre and town with parking until 1.00pm on day of departure. Very clean, warm and comfortable room & a very good breakfast.
Review 4:The hotel is on a busy road, but our rooms were on the other side of it, so not noisy. At the same time, the theatre and all the sights are very close.
Review 5:A bit of noise from above could hear laughing n talking before bed then woken to noisy running around in the morning-but it's to be expected when req downstairs room
Review 6:Great location.Asked for ground floor was accommodated.Comfy bed.Staff nothing to much trouble.Lovely breakfast.
Review 7:Wi-Fi was available for free everywhere but a bit slow
Review 8:Cooked breakfast was excellent, freshly prepared to order. Staff welcoming. Easy short walk into town
Review 9:Although comfy accommodation, my room had a weird smell to it. This was especially evident in the bathroom - perhaps a problem with their drainage although no obvious signs of leakage.
Review 10:Good location for centre of Stratford. Home from home accom, with a good breakfast !
Review 11:We did not have a bad experience but some new pillows would be good.
Review 12:The location was excellent. Having a fridge in our room was also very thoughtful. Little things like mints left was a nice surprise and made us feel welcome.
Review 13:There was not anything we didn't like, although two packets of biscuits in the room instead of one would have been nice.
Review 14:The location was fantastic, walking distance from the tourist attractions. The staff were friendly. Comfy bed. The breakfast was fantastic.
Review 15:No complaints
Review 16:Lovely gentleman who runs the B&B. Superb service, no waiting around for breakfast. Lovely and quiet even through its on the main through road.
Review 17:Would have been nice to have a lounge where you could relax, read a paper etc rather than stay in your room
Review 18:Staff were excellent, nothing too much trouble. Very central within easy walking distance of all we needed.
Review 19:Simple and sweet, very clean, staff friendly, great location. Easy and no troubles with checking in or out. We where allowed to check in way before the time. Thank you...
Review 20:Great Location only 5 min walk into Stratford Upon Avon. Breakfast was really nice too. Bed was very comfy, also a fridge in our room (no 12) which was very handy. Overall a great stay will return
Review 21:Nothing lovely clean cosy room excellent staff so friendly great value for money lovely breakfast will definitely return in the new year ! Thank you x
Review 22:Greeted really friendly and warmly by the proprietor who had rung me in the morning when he realised I'd made double booking by mistake and was so understanding letting me cancel other room ! Lovely man
Review 23:Nothing to complain about ! Great location, lovely people, clean, wish I had something negative to say, but I don't ?
Review 24:Incredibly clean, comfortable, friendly staff and a good breakfast ? Incredible value for money in the centre of Stratford Upon Avon ?
Review 25:Staff were very accommodating and helpful. Centrally located with parking and wifi. Breakfast was quality. Room was clean and bed comfy. I would definitely stay there again.
Review 26:Had to keep curtains drawn during the day for privacy from main road traffic.Bright outside street light hindering our sleep (room 12).
Review 27:Free ample parking parking and a lovely breakfast.
Review 28:Wifi was not working while we were there, but the attitude of the owner about it was good. She was trying to improve the speed but changes had caused a glitch.
Review 29:Fab location close to town centre and quiet despite the busy road. Saved a lot on parking fees! Good breakfast too.
Review 30:Excellent location within easy walking distance of town and restaurants. Car parking on site meant we didn't have to move the car for the entire stay. Very comfortable, well appointed rooms, excellent breakfast and friendly, helpful staff.
Review 31:The TV screen was damaged (but you're not there to watch TV). The walls are thin enough so you can hear people talking in the next room.
Review 32:The bed was really comfortable and the breakfast was really good.
Review 33:It was freezing throughout the night, television didn't work and very poor signal constantly. The shower was also the worst shower I've ever been in and I'm not over exaggerating.
Review 34:I found the breakfast was lovely but a it more would of been better because of the price which you pay.
Review 35:Nothing negative
Review 36:We loved the closeness to town/theatres etc. The parking was excellent and the cleanliness was fantastic. Added to this a delicious breakfast - what more would anyone want. Thank you.
Review 37:Tiny TV and no plugs in sink or bath. Lots of stairs so not great for elderly.
Review 38:Close to town - free parking with a short walk - excellent value at £35 single including very good quality breakfast.
Review 39:Nothing.
Review 40:First class room and wonderful cooked breakfast. The location was also a plus for us because we were able to walk from the train station. We were on the second floor with heavy suitcases after travelling for almost a month and they were very helpful to move our cases for us. They also suggested on a return visit that we could book a room on the first floor.
Review 41:Owner did not treat fairly. We are a family of five and when we booked the room at booking.com and asked for room for five it instructed to book 2 rooms. When we arrived, early afternoon, two rooms were waiting for us - 1 for 5 and 1 for 2. Naturally we stayed all togetger in the big room but owner forced us to pay for both. In addition rooms were not located next to each other despite specific request. One was on the second floor and the other on tbe third floor at the other side of the hotel. Meaning children wete suupose to be very far from us. Stairs were very narrow ang gap between each stair was a bit high and our lite kid almosr fell. Not comfortable to carry the bags to the room
Review 42:Location is good but...
Review 43:My room was facing the main road, which was very noisy; especially since I needed the window open to try and cool the room down. The bed was too soft for my liking, but thats just personal preference.
Review 44:Lovely little B&B in an excellent location, lots of amenities within a short walk, main bus stop just minutes away. Near the canal and market. Staff were great, everything was clean and comfortable. Good breakfast selection.
Review 45:nothing at all .
Review 46:everything about our stay here was perfect, from the moment we walked in we were treated like royalty. The breakfast was lovely and started our day off well. The location is perfect too . All in all a fabulous stay and thoroughly recommended .
Review 47:Was only told when checking out that I could have had breakfast earlier than 8 am "if I asked". As I was leaving at 7:45 I missed out - I'm not telepathic! Also, the place is on a roundabout so can be noisy if you don't bring earplugs.
Review 48:Professional reception, good room, chocolate mint.
Review 49:The only thing I would say is that the two male staff members were some what grumpy.
Review 50:The bed was unbelievably comfortable, brilliant value for money, and good selection of foods for breakfast! Really lovely place to stay.
Review 51:Very slightly tired, the room I was in could do with a lick of paint but it was comfortable and warm so did not detract from the experience. No semi-skimmed milk in the room - please swap the full fat for semi. I only drink tea and this makes a huge difference to the taste.
Review 52:Location, location, location! A good hearty breakfast.
Review 53:My wife and I most enjoyed the friendliness of the staff, the quality of the food was superb and the location was excellent. We would certainly pay a return visit and would recommend Applegarth to our friends and relatives
Review 54:The carpet was stained and tired (although clean), the mattress was also a little lumpy. The breakfast (I am vegetarian) was awful - no choice of toast, over-cooked scrambled eggs and tasteless mushrooms.
Review 55:Convenient and good value for money. Clean en suite. Pleasant staff,
Review 56:There is a real problem with their TV signal (none often) and cranky TV. No TV working first night and morning and intermittent afterwards. No waste paper bin first night and no extension for kettle first night.
Review 57:Hotel a bit dated, but that was not a drawback.
Review 58:Good, clean room, little traffic noise even though it was on a main road. Friendly helpful staff. EXTREMELY convenient for the centre of Stratford.
Review 59:I was impressed by the efficiency. I felt the room was clean and tidy. Because of my good stay, I had a fantastic time to check out on Shakespeare's houses.
Review 60:It is on a main road, so if in room in day, can be a bit noisy with traffic (we were on the ground floor). The WiFi connection is terrible.
Review 61:Clean, spacious room. Staff very non-intrusive. Had our own front door. Breakfast selection was good. Free parking.
Review 62:If anything just slow wifi
Review 63:Very warm welcome. All staff very friendly. Room ideal for our stay. Breakfast was lovely. 5 minutes walk into the town centre. Would definitely use again.
Review 64:Our room was off the main entrance, reception & kitchen & so I would have preferred a room the other side of the house
Review 65:Excellent location, friendly staff, lovely breakfast
Review 66:Nothing
Review 67:Good location, just 5 minutes away from town centre, nice accommodation and very friendly staff. Well, we are in uk so in the morning is a full English breakfast which was great! Btw, Italians can have toast and jam
Review 68:Nothing to dislike.
Review 69:Peter was so patient in waiting for my very late arrival due to road works. The room was beautiful, clean, comfortable. I felt they had put themselves out to help me.
Review 70:Lack of information when arrived such as times of breakfast. No information in the rooms apart from on back of door had fire regulations.
Review 71:The location. Car parking. Breakfast was good.
Review 72:Only a few minutes walk to river, theatre, shops. Free parking and we were allowed to leave our car on the premises until 2pm even though we checked out at 11am. Delicious breakfast.
Review 73:Good breakfast selection although some of the items were disappointing in taste e.g. bacon pre-cooked and dry; frozen not fresh - tasteless mushrooms. Possible fire alarm went off after midnight on our first night however nobody seemed to know whether we should vacate the building or whether it was a false alarm; we could hear other guests on the landing but nobody came to give any reassurance that everything was ok. We saw the chef/cook outside smoking several times but was then in the kitchen, preparing/cooking food wearing the same clothing i.e. no apron, hair cover
Review 74:Location was good (for us) although eateries, shops and places of interest are quite a walk for anyone with mobility difficulties. Friendly staff - overall clean and welcoming
Review 75:Nothing bad but a word of caution for very hot weather. The location is wonderful for theatre and town but on a busy road. Good double glazing but if you had to have the window open you may get a lot of traffic noise early morning.
Review 76:Very comfortable. Great breakfast. Easy parking. Close to RSC. Clearly run by a gentleman who knows his business. My first choice next time in Stratford.
Review 77:Owner a bit grumpy and annoyed at being busy...good Fawlty Towers experience!
Review 78:Lovely breakfast. Really close to the RSC. Traffic didn't keep me awake - good soundproofing
Review 79:N/A
Review 80:There was a plunbing problem in the room I had booked, which was the last available, but the Applegarth's staff had arranged for me to stay at a hotel right across the road before I'd even arrived, very efficient!
Review 81:Fabulous location just a stone's throw away from the town centre and river. Friendly staff with very clean facilities. Car parking made Applegarth a great place to stay.
Review 82:Having to leave to come home I do enjoy my stay.
Review 83:I've stayed there for 4 times now an they recognise me each time and are so friendly they make my stay very welcome,
Review 84:only had a shower, no bath. very small room for a double. could have been cleaner. very small wardrobe only 4 hangers
Review 85:good central location very comfortable bed good breakfast good parking on site
Review 86:Some of the breakfast was bland (the mushrooms especially) A little bit pricey for the size of the room and noise from road but it was a Bank holiday so maybe prices were higher because of that
Review 87:Handy to the centre of town Comfortable bed The bacon and sausages at breakfast were very tasty Friendly staff
Review 88:Other guests were a bit noisy and inconsiderate but nothing can be done about that.
Review 89:Applegarth was very clean and the breakfast choices of various fruits meant that there was something for all tastes, as well as a cooked breakfast followed by toast. Very convenient parking and easy walking distance to the town and all the tourist attractions. Only 5 mins from the Theatre.
Review 90:bedroom was very warm, no air con or fan. we couldn't have the windows open as there was a wasps nest under the eaves.
Review 91:very friendly staff, superb breakfast.
Review 92:The smaller dining room as no windows ,Had to wait for a table on Sunday morning for breakfast.
Review 93:Location Just a short walk to town centre.Off road parking.
Review 94:The road noise was excessive, starting from 6.00am , had to have the windows closed. Also the wifi wasn't that good.
Review 95:The short walk to the town centre.
Review 96:Booked for 2 nights and was phoned the following day to say that we could only have one of those nights. The brusque way we were treated. Breakfast very slow due to mass of people all coming at once.
Review 97:Light and airy room. Convenient..
Review 98:basically on a large traffic island, some members of staff could be unpredictable
Review 99:clean, comfortable, breakfast good, free parking available.Family room for 2 adults and 3 children good on 2nd floor.
Review 100:Whilst breakfast was very good the service of it was not. We had to ask for our order to be taken both mornings and as a result there was a long wait between cereal and cooked breakfast arriving. Waiting staff need to be more aware of when guests first sit down and take their orders for cooked breakfast more promptly.
Review 101:Excellent location. Free parking and WIFI.
Review 102:The bathroom was a little cramped but really not that big of a deal.
Review 103:With 2 teenage daughters, the suite was wonderful! Everyone had our own beds and the closet space was great for all the luggage (10 bags in all!)
Review 104:Nothing negative to report.
Review 105:The friendliness of the staff made us feel very relaxed and welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was good, and the service was very efficient - even when they were very busy. A lovely way to start the day! Our room was clean, comfortable and airy.
Review 106:No problem apart from difficulty regulating the shower, which kept turning alternately very hot & freezing cold.
Review 107:Very conveniently located for theatre & town centre. Room was clean, light & comfortable. Staff were helpful, polite & obliging. It was quiet despite being situated at a busy intersection.
Review 108:The only drawback was that we had a front bedroom and had windows open at night because it was warm. Very noisy because of traffic. Huge lorries etc
Review 109:Very friendly staff. Lovely breakfast. Comfy beds. Location great for getting into town centre
Review 110:We arrived a bit late, around 9pm and the Reception staff seemed cranky about this. We left at 11.25am rather than 11am and again the staff was cranky about this. It was a fairly expensive room and therefore our being a few minutes late leaving didn't seem, to me, to be the end of the world especially as we had arrived so late.
Review 111:Lovely refrigerator in the room. They didn't have any ice which was was odd. Extremely convenient to the sights of Stratford.
Review 112:We had booked a twin room as my wife had recently had a hip replacementand had to sleep alone in a peculiar position. When we got there wefound that we had a double. Not happy but the manager sorted us out withmany different options. We chose for my wife to have the double roomwhile I had a single room. Not perfect but acceptable to me. No extracharge for the single. The manager promised a twin from the followingday and was good to his word. But still a serious flaw in the bookingsystem. The wife had no remote for her telly and being disabled hadproblems getting up to change channels etc. Breakfast Saturday adelight. Sunday the waitress tried to deliver the cooked breakfastbefore we had finished the cereal?????? Still a good breakfast. Overalla good guest house but attention to some detail needed. Little thingsput you off from coming back.
Review 113:Despite the cockup in the booking the manager, Peter, did everything hecould to resolve the problem. Peter 100%
Review 114:The bedroom and bathroom were both really small, so small that if you bent down in the shower you touched both walls! Our room was at the front of the property (on the main road) so the traffic noise was quite bad and woke me up in the morning. I spent ages reading reviews and choosing Applegarth as our chosen accommodation for our stay. I wouldn't say that it's terrible by any stretch-just basic, so be realistic with your expectations
Review 115:Applegarth Guest House is in a great spot-less than a 5min stroll to Stratford-upon-Avon and the breakfast was yummy
Review 116:We arrived earlier than check in time but were welcomed and allowed to park our car and explore Stratford in the meantime. Superb breakfast with a really lovely fresh fruit salad.
Review 117:Because of central location traffic noise was a bit of a nuisance in early morning. Noisy revellers nearby around midnight were also a bit of a worry
Review 118:Location, free parking
Review 119:Some road noise but nothing can be done about that!
Review 120:The location couldn't be better, the room was excellent with all the things you expect to find in a chain hotel. Breakfast was superb and the staff were lovely. Full value for money.
Review 121:We had a front facing bedroom and the traffic was very noisy. Ok with window shut but it was hot and we had to have the window open. Made cotton wool earplugs the second night! Not near the station and no bus to the station. Had to take a taxi.
Review 122:The bed was v comfy. Breakfast was good. Good assortment. G/F available. Very convenient for the town.
Review 123:Misleading to say there is free wifi as it is weak, slow and unreliable. Anyone needing it for work would be in trouble.
Review 124:Bright airy room, v comfortable bed, friendly staff, great breakfast.
Review 125:The connection speed is so very slow it really doesn't qualify as a wifi service but this is a minor point and wouldn't stop us booking again.
Review 126:The accommodation was clean, well maintained and first rate. Room towels, coffee and tea were replenished daily. The House smelt beautiful and had a welcoming atmosphere. The breakfast were plentiful and well cooked. All the staff were very friendly and the guest house is a short walk from the centre. Fantastic experience. Very quiet guests and a lovely tranquil atmosphere.
Review 127:The staff were disinterested, little or no interaction with guests. No information about the free WiFi until I asked. Felt very hurried at breakfast.. Staff were packing away and cleaning! This was 30 mins before breakfast was ending though!
Review 128:The location was excellent, very close to the town centre.
Review 129:Room rather small and one bed kept moving and blocking the door. Very steep steps - could do with a handrail on each side. Dead fly lived on bathroom window Monday-Wednesday. WiFi intermittent.
Review 130:Location, calibre of staff at breakfast - very friendly, helpful and speedy.
Review 131:It can be a bit noisy at night owing to its location at the corner of an arterial road - but it's worth it for its proximity to town and theatre.
Review 132:Excellent friendly staff; a clean, comfortable room and a great breakfast.
Review 133:Different staff on Monday and weren't as accommodating or friendly, quality of breakfast was poor, keep the weekend staff throughout the week
Review 134:Excellent breakfast at weekends and staff
Review 135:Very noisy on a main road that is extremely busy. We were a little disappointed in the standard of decor basic rooms no window dressings other than curtains on such a main road no privacy so needed to keep closed.
Review 136:.very good breakfast and nice staff.
