Reviews for The White Swan Hotel
Review 1:Some of the fittings in the bathroom were loose on the wall, the extractor fans didn't work, some of the furnishings in the room need replacing
Review 2:Location , staff friendly, the hotel was clean and nicely presented
Review 3:I must stress this could have been an unfortunate one off incident, but we ate from the hotel restaurant. I had the fish and chips which was so oily and bland that I felt unwell and later vomitted that night. We had booked for breakfast too for two days but after this incident I was a little concerned so ate from local restaurants. I did speak to the Manager about it and she did give us a refund on one days worth of breakfast.
Review 4:The amenities and facilities were excellent. I loved that the hotel retained its period features but still looked modern. Added bonus the Shakespeare quotes on walls and original 18th century books on shelf. The bed was wonderful to sleep in with plush cushions. We had all the facilities from wifi, refreshments, iron, hair dryer, toiletries and towels. The shower was very modern. Staff, waiters and Management were thoughtful and helpful at all times.
Review 5:The restaurant is beautiful, but the food is not so good as the surroundings. The location should be a plus, but between 2am and 4am too many drunks shouting in the square outside the hotel made it feel like sleeping above a football match. Clearly not the hotels fault, and perhaps a one off, but far from ideal.
Review 6:The room and the bathroom were amazing - in a character part of the hotel.
Review 7:As we were celebrating our Ruby wedding anniversary we had ordered champagne on arrival, but our request was not forthcoming, so that was a little disappointing for us. Also no draw space to put your clothes in, so lived out of suitcase for 3 days.
Review 8:Good location, very comfortable room, well presented breakfast.
Review 9:Everything about the hotel was very good, there was nothing we didn't like
Review 10:It was a really good location very central. The staff were most helpful and we were upgraded to a more superior room at no extra cost.
Review 11:Some very slight wear to some of the fixtures but not more than I'd expect.
Review 12:Brilliant for family trip to theatre. Lovely central location, friendly helpful staff and good restaurant/breakfast. Interconnecting rooms available and free wifi. Rated 9/10 by my difficult to please teenage kids.
Review 13:The restaurant is beautiful, the food itself a bit average for the price. Staff try hard but seem a little over-run.
Review 14:Great location for the theatre; beautiful wood-beamed pub and breakfast/dining room. Room very comfortable, if on the small side. The reception staff are very helpful. The hotel itself is an easy walk from the train station.
Review 15:Not much, hotel were good; food were lovely and staff were very friendly definitely be staying in this establishment again.
Review 16:Location and rooms were excellent
Review 17:Bar & restaurant not so great - bad mannered barman & limited food menu.
Review 18:Excellent in room facilities, loved the spacious bathroom & fridge with fresh milk & soft drinks. Bedroom a little small (classic room) but amazing bed and well planned layout - no noise from other guests. We were at the rear of the hotel in the modern part - room felt like a superior one apart from the size of bedroom. Lovely interior design.
Review 19:We stayed in Hamlet room Lovely room with original features stunning bathroom and very comfortable Had a meal in hotel good food well presented. Breakfast was ample and tasty All in all a lovely place to stay
Review 20:Shame there is no on site parking but local multi worked fine for us.
Review 21:Lovely old building, comfortable, good atmosphere, friendly staff and fab breakfast in front of a real open fire. Winter perfection.
Review 22:We upgraded to one of the character rooms and it was worth every penny. Our favourite hotel. The staff at reception are really friendly and helpful. Breakfast was beautiful. We will be booking here again really soon.
Review 23:Beautiful hotel the only criticism I had was that we were close to a big fan unit that was a bit noisy. Restaurant staff in morning seemed rushed to get our order and forgot some of the contents of our breakfast
Review 24:Beautiful hotel
Review 25:No hotel car park. Nearest (very near) Pay and Display expensive.
Review 26:As our room was not ready upon arrival we were upgraded at no extra cost. The staff were very pleasant, attentive and efficient. Dinner and breakfast was good.
Review 27:Room was not ready on arrival , room at back of hotel , vent in room as windy outside making a noise all night , plaster falling off around one of windows, on second day room had still not been cleen ed by mid afternoon, meal at night in rester ant poor.
Review 28:The location was good nice town.
Review 29:I thought I'd paid in advance (£284) via you but it looks as if you didn't take the money?
Review 30:Fresh milk for morning tea great breakfasts comfortable bed Lovely open fires Natalia on reception very helpful when we got drenched in the rain
Review 31:Our favorite place to stay in Stratford. We love the unique rooms which all blend modern convenience with classic old world charm. Great location in Stratford and the pub downstairs is a nice bonus...!
Review 32:The Position of the Hotel was excellent, a few steps away from restaurants and shops. The whole hotel has a charming appeal to it, breakfast was excellent and the staff so helpful. All in all a very pleasant stay.
Review 33:A bit of noise from the street and somewhat cold staff on reception.
Review 34:Good location in the centre of Stratford. Old world pub with comfortable, modern rooms. Decent breakfast
Review 35:THE FACT WE HAD TO LEAVE, would love to have stayed longer!!
Review 36:It's very rare that hotels exceed expectations and this stay did just that......perfect in everyway!!! The hotel, room quality, dining facilities, location, staff, Fullers ale and all the little touches made Christams 2015 one to remember......thank you very much.....already recommended this place to friends and family and will be booking up again in the new year!!
Review 37:Would have liked it better if the coffee pot was left at the breakfast table, rather than having to ask for refill. Only a suggestion, not a complaint.
Review 38:Did not have bad experience however directions to car park could have been clearer as there is no road name and had to go round town twice . Breakfast was a little slow but the waitress seemed to be doing everything on her own
Review 39:location was excellent
Review 40:it's a shame there is no parking but the location makes that difficult, however there is parking(although expensive) is literally around the corner.
Review 41:We loved the period features in the communal areas of the hotel, the bedroom had everything required and was extremely well kitted out. Staff excellent. Location was superb.
Review 42:Nothing we didnt like
Review 43:We have stayed at the white swan before its a lovely old building with lots of character, the staff were very helpful even giving us information about the place etc
Review 44:Breakfast was a bit disappointing. No muesli; porridge had to be ordered separately and took a while; cooked breakfast nothing special. (Scrambled eggs were overcooked).
Review 45:Comfortable, warm and friendly. A central location (but no hotel parking). Thick carpets, oak panelling in the public rooms, well decorated with good quality fittings.
Review 46:the constant droning of the refrigeration unit outside our room throughout the night and the truck drivers breakfast.accomodation abysmally small and nowhere to hang your clothes, bathroom first rate.
Review 47:location, and ambience in the bar, staff more than helpful.
Review 48:Quite noisy in the morning (deliveries or collections outside possibly) and from the room above (we were in 121). The bathroom bin had not been emptied and so on opening it to dispose of the little soap wrapper I was faced with the unwrapped sanitary articles of the previous guest!
Review 49:Great location. Pleasant staff. Very nice bar area. Good value for the area.
Review 50:It need sound insulation as there is space at the room door. It makes loud sound when there is other visitors come in / go out his room.
Review 51:The location is excellent. It is near to the sightseeing places by walking. The room is tidy, clean and comfort.
Review 52:We've stayed here before & it was lovely. This time we were freezing cold in our room. The bathroom was that cold we both struggled to have showers & even the bedroom itself was cold. We told reception & they said they would turn the heating up but this didn't happen.
Review 53:Very friendly & lovely rooms
Review 54:Reception could not find my resivation, then we were told at 15:30 our room was not ready to take a seat in reception, When placing a room service order at 21:20- the lady answering the phone came across as it was a problem to order due to it being busy
Review 55:The receptionist on our arrival was incredibly rude to us. She was sounwelcoming and her remarks so pointedly abrupt that I actually laughedout loud as I couldn't believe someone who is the first point ofcontact at a hotel could be so rude.
Review 56:The restaurant and food
Review 57:Wine bottle left uncorked in the fridge in the bar. Shabby interior in rooms and too expensive for the quality you got
Review 58:Staff tried really hard but were not quite in touch with customer service. Building inside looks good as long as you don't look close.
Review 59:Restaurant closed at 9pm we arrived at 9:15 we were not offered any alternative Breakfast service was very slow Parking is £14 perhaps this should be discounted for guests - city centre prices in a provincial town
Review 60:Location, decor
Review 61:I asked for a quiet room with a view, but got a room next to a large and loud family and no view (view onto the fire escape and a wall). In fairness to the hotel, I reserved pretty late, so it could be all that was left.
Review 62:Great location; staff is responsive; beautiful old building (the oldest hotel in town). Excellent breakfast! If you reserve early enough, you can get one of the theme rooms with exposed beams in the old part of the building (only 4 of those) - I reserved fairly late, so those were not available.
Review 63:Room at back of hotel with only fire escape for a view,no on site parking, paid £10 for overnight stay in multi storey
Review 64:Decent sized room,large bathroom,excellent shower
Review 65:Very poor, slow service for 2 out of 3 breakfasts. Waited 30 minutes on Friday for hot food. Prefer pot of coffee as hard to get refill as staff were very busy. Food was excellent once it arrived
Review 66:Super room with a really spacious and well appointed en suite with bath and shower. Very well stocked with all toiletries needed. Liked the fresh milk and water supplied in fridge.
Review 67:There was nothing we did not like with this hotel and we have stayed on a large number of different types of hotels both in the uk and abroad.
Review 68:This was a delightful hotel, very quaint and friendly staff. Very clean, excellent value for money and with a large choice of eating options.
Review 69:Location brilliant, quick, easy walk to the shops, restaurants and attractions. Lovely hotel bar area. Parking just behind the hotel @£14/24hrs. Our room was on the second floor at the back, it was a good size with two large windows; comfortable with good amenities. Staff were helpful. Full English breakfast was outstanding last visit, not as good this time but still very decent.
Review 70:Parking limited nearby at a cost.
Review 71:Charming historical building which is well maintained to enhance it's wonderful character. Uneven floors & walls add to it's charm. Copper bath was amazingly comfortable & charming. Extremely comfortable room, seperate dressing room with mini kitchen. A memorable stay in central location in the charming Stratford on Avon. Couldn't have chosen better!
Review 72:The cooked breakfast was a let down - cold eggs.
Review 73:The rooms were really comfy and I loved being able to make fresh coffee in the morning not just the usual instant rubbish.
Review 74:They only had one person serving in the restaurant which meant we were waiting a long time to be served and get our meals. I ordered fish which came out very dry with no jus or sauce to moisten it. We ordered breakfast in bed and it arrived without any butter for the toast, couldn't be bothered to make another request and not the end of the world but it's these little details that make a difference when you're paying £200 a night. The food service via the bar was awful, the staff there didn't seem to have any idea what they were doing. Initially when we asked to order food because it was after a certain time in the evening they said we would have to get the menu from our room and bring it back down to order. Which obviously wasn't true because they managed to find a menu. They then told us the soup of the day was mushroom but then brought out broccoli and Stilton soup.
Review 75:Love the look and feel of the hotel
Review 76:Almost every area of the hotel smelled bad, different odors and all bad. Some mildew, sone stake beer, sone fresh paint, and some cleaning solvents. The hotel alerted us just prior to arrival that there was a fair in town adjacent to the hotel with loud noise every night until 11pm. Streets were closed for the fair but the hotel provided no guidance about that nor how to get from the municipal parking area to the hotel (the hotel has no parking for its guests).
Review 77:Breakfast was very good but I had to send the toast back three times before it came back as proper toast rather than warm bread. A small matter though and should be easy to put right.
Review 78:Character of the building and the decor. The recent refurbishment is well done. Staff are lovely and very helpful.
Review 79:It was expensive as hotels go but compared to others in the area it seemed a fair price. Breakfast and evening dinner were very nice too.
Review 80:Room was lovely and staff very friendly. Great location in the centre of Stratford.
Review 81:Receptionist was helpful and pleasant Bedroom was compact, bed very comfortable, bathroom had a great shower Breakfast was good particularly the scrumptious porridge
Review 82:After booking a double room to be asked by the receptionist if we meant to book a twin. As a married lesbian couple found this really offensive.
Review 83:Very central location. Staff in restaurant were very friendly. Very clean and comfortable
Review 84:Dinner in the pub was very tasty but expensive. Our room wasn't ready for over an hour when we arrived, despite it being after check-in time and the arrival time we had put on our form. No offer of a drink or anything while we waited.
Review 85:The pub attached to the hotel was beautiful, cosy and very traditional. Breakfast was great. Room and bathroom were very clean and modern. We had a very relaxing stay.
Review 86:Very kind and helpful staff. An excellent lunch outside, (it was so nice I stayed on for lunch), friendly atmosphere both in the hotel, and the bar area. Special thanks go to the member of staff on reception on thursday night, and Thomas working in the bar, friday day. Both went out of their way to ensure I had a pleasant time. A very comfortable hotel, and delicious food served too.
Review 87:Nothing. It was our fifth visit to the White Swan and we plan another after Christmas.
Review 88:Comfortable room, good food, ideally situated for exploring Stratford and visiting the theatre.
Review 89:My only complaint was the bed was a bit hard, but that was all I could find fault with.
Review 90:It's like going back in time to a gentler and more graceful age, and the staff were excellent, nothing was too much trouble. I also liked, as an insomniac, being able to go and sit outside and read and have a cigarette at 2 am in perfect safety, with the gates shut.
Review 91:Wifi was not good at all and the bed was uncomfortable. Breakfast was nice but eggs were overdone on my eggs benedict.
Review 92:Great location and staff are friendly.
Review 93:Squeaky floorboards above us.
Review 94:The ambiance in the hotel. Always warm and welcoming and the dining room/bar area with its alcoves and flagstones is so evocative of the Shakespearean era.
Review 95:Car parking arrangements. Have stayed in other city centres when we have been given carpark passes to coucil parks near hotel.
Review 96:Locality for Stratford itself
Review 97:Stuff a bit rude: does say good morning, how is your day? Or you sleep well? ... Just check in and show were is the lift .... Need to improve costumer service skills .... Only the bartender was really helpful and polight ... Room was a bit noise in the morning, housekeepings been talking very loudly in the corridor.
Review 98:Bed was really comfortable !
Review 99:All good, though the recommended multistorey carpark (5-minute walk) feels somewhat desolate and untended.
Review 100:Nice room, good welcome, good breakfast, convenient location
Review 101:Restaurant: food was excellent but the service was a let down both at dinner and breakfast. Dinner - service was very slow between courses with diners who had arrived after us being served more promptly. Despite apologies from staff, breakfast proved to be just as frustrating with a wrong breakfast order
Review 102:Visited before the refurbishment a few years ago. Extremely impressed by the new look. Very comfortable although pillows could be better. Adrienne at Reception was brilliant; efficient and extremely helpful
Review 103:Our room was a little on the small side but it had everything we needed and was extremely comfortable.
Review 104:The hotel is full of character and the breakfast / dining room is particularly interesting. The breakfast was very good too!
Review 105:Pleasant,helpful,polite staff Breakfast was well presented cooked well and great choice Excellent location Wonderful very old building Stratford-upon-Avon is what we thought it would be and then more (in a very good way)
Review 106:Doesn't have a warm feeling to it.
Review 107:Nice, very cosy hotel. Right in the center of the city, walking distance from everything. Clean. The breakfast was really good. Nicely decorated.
Review 108:We stayed here for an overnight break and couldnt have been more impressed by the wonderful staff and beautiful hotel, well kept, immaculatley clean and worth the money for the gorgeous in character room!
Review 109:Could do with a car park but the £10 is a small price to pay for such a great hotel.
Review 110:Superbly situated, lovely food and the decor was very modern and immaculate!
Review 111:Breakfast was perhaps less exciting. My wife didn't like the cheap ham on the eggs Benedict. My typical fry up was fine but nothing special.
Review 112:We had the Romeo and Juliet room. Extremely comfortable bed. Room was very quiet as well. Well appointed bathroom and shower. Had gluten free bread for breakfast and as a coeliac this is always appreciated!
Review 113:We were unable to have tea in the room as the pot was filthy. The bed was very narrow
Review 114:the staff were very pleasant. The breakfast was excellent, The hotel is charming and in a great location
Review 115:limited parking and adjacent car park full and expensive
Review 116:excellent location - in town centre. food was top notch - great pre-theatre menu which was fantastic vfm as well as being of a high standard. choice of breakfast, cooked to order
Review 117:We stayed in a character room so paid extra. We stayed at the front of the hotel in a quaint room with very stylish fittings. Bed was very comfortable and the room was quiet from the benefit of secondary glazing, there was a low rumble from guests in the pub below. Charming with many antique features in the interior of the building with all modern comforts.
Review 118:We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. If we could have changed anything it would have been the view. We had the short straw with a horrible view of the fire escape at the rear of the hotel.
Review 119:The hotel itself is a gorgeous old building with oak beams and fireplaces. Perfect for our stay and brilliant location.
Review 120:Lack of car park facilities is a pain in poor weather Woken up at 6am onSaturday morning by extra noisy delivery driver. Attention to detail waspoor. Milk in fridge was out of date and off. Significant black mouldunder shower mat and you forgot the note I wrote to my wife to go alongwith the surprise bouquet! Staff were friendly but seemed to busy tomake stay memorable.
Review 121:We've visited the hotel on a number of occasions over 15 or moreyears. This time was for our wedding anniversary. Pre-booking was verygood. Always enjoyed the charm of the period features and well locatedfor shops and attractions. Nice touches in room - but at the end of theday these were all charged as extras.
Review 122:Great location, well thought out in terms of small details in the room for example fresh milk and cafetière coffee. Very good breakfast. Overall a lovely stay and we would recommend it.
Review 123:Surley barman. Wobbly toilet roll holder. Very chipped wooden desk and toilet seat in room. Lukewarm breakfast and cold toast (they ask if you want white or brown but what you ask for has no bearing on what they bring you!)
Review 124:On the whole I really liked this hotel. Convenient location, a short walk from the attractions. The room (122) was very small but comfortable with tasteful decor, a fabulous shower and fresh milk in the fridge. The hotel had a cosy bar area with comfy sofas which was perfect for an afternoon drink.
Review 125:Although the experienced staff were excellent, the new untrained foreign waitress made a lot of mistakes which tempered the level of service.
Review 126:The ambiance of the hotel was special
Review 127:Evening meal was very poor even though recommended by the receptionist. Menu bragged 'home made beefburger' which was clearly not. Parking was abysmal; there were available spaces marked for Residents but we were asked to move our vehicle as staff parked there. Place lacked atmosphere despite it's excel;lent furnishings.
Review 128:Location, hotel furniture and fittings.
Review 129:expensive parking, this could be a factor whether we stay again, specially for two or three nights. The mushrooms on toast my wife ordered for breakfast came with just one small mushroom, we should have said something at the time but we had a good stay so didn't want to make a fuss
Review 130:Location, evening meal, my breakfast was very good, hotel room and staff great!
Review 131:1. Went to the bar on first evening and asked for a glass of Chardonnay. She gave me a glass of red wine. I said Chardonnay was white. She went through all the opened bottles on the bar shelf until I suggested she might be better looking in the fridge for white wine. She obviously had not a clue. We left to find a pub or wine bar that did. 2. I asked for a Telegraph newspaper the next morning. We received a Times. I complained at the reception desk."Oh it says here you wanted a Telegraph" as if it wasn't her fault. No offer to obtain one for me. 3. No shelving/drawers for clothing only hanging space.
Review 132:Conveniently placed in the town
Review 133:Not a bad experience, but a pity they don't have single rooms. 150 Pounds a night is a lot to pay for one person.
Review 134:First of all: charm and sense of history ; comfort ; friendly service.
Review 135:Nothing.
Review 136:Everything! The staff were incredibly helpful without exception. The room was clean and luxurious. Breakfast was delicious. A fabulous place to stay.
