Reviews for Stag
Review 1:When booking in told breakfast was from 07:00 and booked alarm call for 06:45. No alarm call came and bar/restaurant locked and in darkness at 07:30. Rang reception no answer, rang emergency number no answer. Very poor service.
Review 2:Convenience
Review 3:Good value. The staff were efficient and friendly. The whole experience was very homely. Excellent, very tasty and presented breakfasts and evening meals during our stay.
Review 4:The bathroom could do with a coat of paint. A few more comfortable chairs or sofas in the bar area would be nice.
Review 5:friendly staff, good food, all areas were clean
Review 6:dirty towels, roasting room temperature and noise for main road as windows had to be open to cool room, overpriced for condition of room, busted drain pipe on entry to room 5 so when raining you got soaked, bathroom tiles need a scrub
Review 7:close to family members, nice food
Review 8:The worst shower possible... It was either so hot it could scold or too cold you'd freeze and all this no matter how much you tried to change the setting
Review 9:The food was great and very well priced. A very comfy bed and lovely helpful staff
Review 10:Took a while to get served breakfast (40 mins and only 2 other couples in breakfast room) no shower in bathroom (well, handheld one so had to kneel to shower. Went to have a bath but hot water had run out ?)
Review 11:Quirky room, excellent breakfast.
Review 12:We had dinner that evening which was not great. We were allocated room number 8 which was quite nice but was extremely noisy through until the early hours (due to guests using the bar and then taking quite a long time to leave from the car park).
Review 13:Staff were very good - location was excellent as it is so close to our final destination of Stratford upon Avon.
Review 14:Surly manageress - I was made to feel that wanting breakfast was a huge imposition. When i mentioned that there was no hot water in the room she said the boiler had broken the previous day - I had not been informed of this on check in. she offered no other comment. On check out she offered to voucher off the drinks we had had in the bar the previous evening. there was a blind on the door which is clearly never opened as I pulled the blind up and there was mould on the window frames.
Review 15:The bar staff were very friendly and the room was lovely with a large modern / refurbished bathroom.
Review 16:Our room was situated around a courtyard, so we had our own front door. The bathroom was beautiful, just updated I suspect. The facilities were great with an ironing board, hair dryer, kettle etc. staff were very friendly and the food was superb.
Review 17:The shower attachment on bath had a very low flow rate
Review 18:Stay in Room 1 with its two levels & period features. Staff very helpful & happy nothing was to much trouble
Review 19:we were in room 9 which was right next to the road as it is on a busy road it was very noisy wouldn't want to stay in that room again. It was also difficult getting on to the road lots of traffic
Review 20:Staff very helpful and polite, food was very good
Review 21:Room was cold heating came on for 10 minutes ,could,nt put bathroom light on as the fan was rattling, cleanliness , very poor dust on telephone n lamp. Bathroom wasn't cleaned very well.service in restaurant was very slow, Need more staff waiting staff n cleaning staff very dissatisfied.
Review 22:Location good, bed comfortable.
Review 23:Didn't like attitude of woman behind bar when she was told I had already paid. Treated me like a liar. Would have appreciated handwash in bathroom.
Review 24:Landlord very friendly. Room very nicely presented and very clean.
Review 25:the very warm reception from our young host (didn't get his name). The room exceeded expectations - was more of a suite on 2 levels. (room 1) The spiral staircase may cause difficulties for some - but we loved it. Bathroom was a bit quirky! As an ensuite be ware it is not 'totally' separate from the bedroom! Complimentary bath products were fab.Bed was very comfy. Good quality coffee on the complimentary drinks tray - the brownies were a welcome offering rather than the standard biscuits. Food - good pub food. Breakfast very good. Overall great value for money in a good location for us.
Review 26:Our room was on the road=side of the building. There was traffic noise in the evening but it did not prevent a good nights sleep
Review 27:Spacious room, friendly and welcoming staff, great food
Review 28:The road noise was more then we were expecting. The landlady could learn a bit from the staff on customer care.
Review 29:The staff were always very helpful, cheerful and attentive at all times. The room was spacious and very comfortable. In all it was a very pleasant stay.
Review 30:I had to wait 30 mins, both for evening meal and breakfast. Also the lady explained about having to pay, as my card was only pre- authorised. The cash machine which I tried to get money out of was not working properly
Review 31:The room was very nice and comfortable
Review 32:The location on a very busy road with traffic passing about 1.5m from the dining room windows at 50 mph. Also very difficult to exit the hotel safely. The door from our room to the courtyard needed to be slammed so hard to shut it that the building shook (as demonstrated by a member of staff). The shower tile grouting was heavily encrusted in black mold. The noisy bathroom fan that vibrated the walls.
Review 33:The food - excellent The room in general and the bed in particular
Review 34:The lady who served breakfast on the Saturday was not friendly in the least.
Review 35:Danielle was very friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble for her. She is an asset to the stag.
Review 36:Staff were accommodating and friendly,Rooms were clean and comfortable, Meals were good and the overall stay was more than pleasant.Would highly recommend.
Review 37:Lovely country pub and very welcoming atmosphere, we used it as an overnight for a family trip to Warwick Castle, rooms lovely, beds very comfy, food in restaurant very nice, fab choice and childrens menu.
Review 38:Wifi single very poor in the room it was free but unusable though by no working it made me go out and enjoy myself so not a bad thing after all.
Review 39:Staff on arrival and throughout the stay were happy, friendly & very helpful. Stayed for evening meal which was good value for money, breakfast which was included in the price was good. Room good, clean and tidy with everything you needed, bathroom tight squeeze but ok for a short visit. Would be very happy to stay again.
Review 40:Light not working despite asking for it to be sorted Cleanliness of room below average Some issues of staffing at one breakfast No marmalade for breakfast
Review 41:Convenient Location
Review 42:The evening meal was not brilliant but didn't feel the need to complain. Was expecting a little better
Review 43:Rooms were a little tired in decor bit otherwise lovely
Review 44:The WiFi link was very slow, but worst was the fact bedrooms 1-6 are set round a courtyard which has tables for smokers, on the Thursday night of my stay there were people out talking loudly and making quite a racket right outside my bedroom window until gone 11 pm.
Review 45:Excellent food and very attentive staff, although on a main road there was no traffic noise which surprised me. The room was immaculate and of good size.
Review 46:There was nothing we had a problem with.
Review 47:We liked everything about the Stag. Location was great just 4 miles from the center of Stratford. It was extremely good value. We will stay there again on our next trip to the UK.
Review 48:Our room was very small (room 7) although that's not a negative as didn't spend long in there, but it needs decorating, bathroom walls were marked and looked dingy. The bedroom carpet wasn't clean, dusty in all corners/edges but rest of room was clean
Review 49:The food and pub facilities were excellent, food was wonderful (chef knows his food) and great value, pub staff were very chatty and cheerful even when their workload was heavy. Pub had character, lovely, would stay again.
Review 50:The road outside the room was quite busy and very close to the window. A car or truck would pass during the night about every 5 minutes so I didn't get a great nights sleep. On the other hand the mrs didn't even notice. Was fast asleep all night. So depends on the person. Plus the rooms on the otherside of the corridor will be much quieter so if this is a problem just ask for one of them rooms.
Review 51:The friendliness of the owners. They really made an effort to make us feel welcome. We paid for a room with child bed but it was actually really 2 rooms as there was a door on our room so could watch TV etc whilst the little one slept in peace.
Review 52:Signal in the area wasn't great but to be expected in located so that's not a complaint
Review 53:The first night we stayed in room 1 which we loved second night we stayed in room 3 which was a down grade but still pleasant! Staff were so friendly and helpful! Breakfast was so nice also!! So much to pick from!
Review 54:Eggs at breakfast not how I ordered them and attitude of staff when I sent them back could have been better
Review 55:Room was lovely with nice sitting room downstairs and bedroom and bathroom up a wrought iron staircase. Only downside was only a hand held shower.
Review 56:The staff were great but the manager in particular was very friendly & welcoming, couldn't do enough for you. Beautiful old building & Breaky was pretty good too.
Review 57:Very poor evening meal. Slow service, peas clearly left on plate to dry-out and become cold. Only three watery mushrooms. No watercress
Review 58:Comfortable and spacious room
Review 59:Very offhand reception; first supper very poor; first breakfast server quite pleasant andbreakfast was what I ordered; second supper much better, second breakfast was served by the same offhand person who checked me in (I think it was the proprietor) - wrong egg, didn't offer toast so I asked for it, it was plonked down onthe far corner of my table whilst server continued a personal conversation with a staff member and didn't even break her stride. Not a welcoming place. Room was tatty despite newish bed and bathroom - desperately needs some painting. Only armchair is positioned immediately below the small wall hung TV. Room, although adequate in size is badly designed.
Review 60:Pleasant rural location but no bus into town. Interesting historic building.
Review 61:Food was appalling. I ordered a eggs benedict for breakfast, and what I got was a mess on a plate. The dinner the night before was a disappointment, and I had to wait three quarters of an hour for desert. There was only one other family who were eating at the restaurant that night. We still had to wait at the bar, as the bar girl was also clearing tables and taking food from the kitchen. Price of food was still quite expensive. not good value.
Review 62:Rooms and accommodation were fantastic. Pictures on website didn't give the place justice. Really gorgeous.
Review 63:The rooms were very tired and could do with a makeover. The wait for food was quite long and don't ask for special coffee as it took ages to do and was slopped down in front of you. The Manager's wife took our payment on the last day with a very straight face and no "thank you" or asked if you enjoyed your stay etc. No manners.
Review 64:The Manager was very obliging and helpful. The young lady behind the bar was very chirpy and friendly but not that efficient or speedy. The food was very well prepared and variety good.
Review 65:The room was dusty and unclean the en-suite needed cleaning. The hot water tap did not work had to use a kettle for hot water and in the shower unit the water would not clear the tray it needed plunging. the security light in the room was in your eyeline when going to bed so would be on all night. And lastly the landlady could do with some interpersonal skills.
Review 66:The location and surroundings were beautiful, and evening meals good most of the staff helpful.
Review 67:When we arrived for breakfast it was a little disapointing as the service we recieved was very poor when my partner ask for more coffee the lady proceeded to pour the dregs of the coffee pot in her cup there was no fresh coffee availble and then the lady who was serving us walked away without bringing fresh coffee thankfully Dani came to the rescue big thank for that
Review 68:Having stay in some very nice places on our trip we were noth pleasantly surprize at our room it was one of the nicest places we had stay.what made our stay with yourselves even more enjoyable was the assistant manager Dani who was more than helpful and the waitress miranda really nice staff thankyou would look forward to staying with you again
Review 69:There was nothing we didn't like
Review 70:The location was excellent, more peaceful than bring in a Statford, yet so close. The standard of food was excellent, room very comfortable.
Review 71:The stairs.
Review 72:Loveld everything about this hotel. However we had to lug bags up stairs. The hotel does have ground floor rooms attached so if you have mobility issues, book one of those. It's on a main road in the middle of nowhere. Still quiet, road noise not an issue, but you need your own transport.
Review 73:Breakfast experience was not so good. The lady serving us was impolite to the point of embarrassing and looked miserable. No milk or sugar was offered with our drink, toast came out half way through eating our breakfast.
Review 74:The assistant manager who worked on the Saturday night was excellent and made us feel very welcome, a credit to the business. The rest of the staff on the evening were also very good. Room was surprisingly big.
Review 75:No bad experience.
Review 76:As a Pub/hotel they could have closed at 23:00 but stayed open to welcome us after a RSC theatre visit which went on longer than expected. My German guests were delighted with the friendly welcome and homely comfort of the room. As was I.
Review 77:On arrival the member of staff that booked us in was not very welcoming. The room had not been hoovered or dusted for some time. On our second day we had too return our breakfast twice and still recieved uncooked food . The breakfast wateriest manor was rude. We will not be returning.
Review 78:the grouting could use a touch up in the shower
Review 79:Very good sized room with good quality linen and comfy bed. Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent value for money Definitely would return.
Review 80:Gents toilet in pub did not flush properly after use (blocked)and I found that embarrassing. In addition the chain was missing from the remaining gents toilet so that could not be flushed either...both need attention.Waited 50 minutes for dinner after ordering which is excessive suggesting shortage of cooking staff in kitchen. ...
Review 81:Very friendly staff who represented the business well. Food was very good and generous.
Review 82:I cannot be so positive about the accommodation The bed was clean and comfortable, but the room itself needs a little 'TLC', especially the bathroom. Also, during breakfast, firstly we were ,totally ignored by the landlady, we had water dripping onto us when someone showered above. we reported the leak but without apology we were told 'yes we know about that'. The breakfast was only OK. The rooms are over priced compared with other B&B's I have stayed at.
Review 83:Starting with the positives; the bar staff are very friendly, beer garden is lovely and the bar food was good.
Review 84:Older lady not the most welcoming especailly in the mornings! Ceiling in superior room needs attention also bottom of duvet had large stain on it.
Review 85:bed was so comfy. Food was delicious.
Review 86:Had to ask to be moved from room when fumes from kitchen extractor became unbearable. No hot water in the bathroom in the morning; fairly offhand investigating and sorting. Shouldn't offer a rare fillet steak if it's going to take over 30 minutes to arrive and when it does it's medium.
Review 87:The manager is affable and complaints were dealt with professionally, although it would be better not to have to complain in the first place. Nice walks around the country lanes/fields nearby. One barmaid delightfully kookie.
Review 88:Dinner was only adequate.
Review 89:Bedroom 1 is a lovely little apartment. Lounge on the ground floor with a spiral iron staircase to the bedroom and en suite above. Mind your head!
Review 90:a lot of banging and shouting late at night, but think it was a staff member got locked out.
Review 91:the room was lovely, all oak beams and brass bed, good quality beverages in room too.
Review 92:Only negative point was the proximity of our bedroom to the A46, which meant that windows in the bedroom had to remain shut in an attempt to keep out the noise of passing traffic
Review 93:See the review
Review 94:Nothing :-)
Review 95:We chose the Stag for the short drive into Stratford to visit the RSC. We received a warm welcome on arrival at the Stag. We were given great accomodation which was well equiped for our basic needs. Dinner was excellent and breakfast the same.
Review 96:We arrived to find faeces marks on the bowl of the toilet and the bathroom had a fowl odor the whole stay. The hotel is on a main road and cars passed by constantly throughout the day and night. Room has old thin windows and we could hear everything. Very hard to get to sleep. The location is also quite obscure and if you care to know the building is a former jail where executions took place near by and they say spirits haunt the hotel. Wouldn't recommend it to you.
Review 97:Free breakfast was substantial.
Review 98:The breakfast wasn't the best I've had. Service quite slow at times and not always quite to order (eggs overcooked etc). A minor criticism during an otherwise lovely stay at the Stag.
Review 99:Ideally located for exploring Stratford and surrounding areas. Lovely clean room and reasonably priced meals in the bar. Would recommend.
Review 100:Leaving the Stag via the side lane is difficult - cannot the hedgerow be cut back a bit so that more of the lane is visible? Also turning onto the main road is hair raising (especially in an old classic car!!) although I'm not sure whether the Stag would have any influence on what can be done about this.
Review 101:On both mornings of our stay, at brrakfast we were treated to unprofessional displays by the manager on duty. The first day, she conducted an interview for a new staff member in the dining area, so we got to learn all sbout the staffing situation. Morning two we got to see a full blown melt-down by the same manager as she aired all the dirty laundry and Burst into tears, again in the dining room. It was rather awkward and awful.
Review 102:The rustic, old-world feel of the inn was charming. Our room was cozy and clean and, thankfully, at the rear of building and away from the noise of the busy road out front.
Review 103:No snacks in bar when we arrived (about 21:30) - ie when dining room shut; "free wifi" was MyCloud, which requires personal details I am not prepared to give.
Review 104:Fair price and standard
Review 105:Minor moan: Tricky to pull out of the car park onto very busy road at 08.00
Review 106:Friendly staff & decent food in attached pub restaurant. Choose hotel for location as wanted to walk & cycle. Free WiFi Large car park.
Review 107:Unfortunately the traffic noise from the A46 is so bad with lorries travelling overnight that I was unable to sleep at all. As The Stag is listed they can't double-glaze windows so not sure how they can solve this. The room actually shook each time a lorry went past.
Review 108:Breakfast was really good. Only place I've stayed recently with porridge on the menu! The Stag has great character and charm.
Review 109:We'd planned to have a walk into Stratford but no footpaths, only main roads, not the hotel's fault clearly but just a warning to anyone else planning to walk into town. Taxi wasn't too expensive though and decent park and ride
Review 110:Friendly staff, really good puddings!
Review 111:Worth the money to be honest shower door was a little dodgy but that's the only one SMALL thing I can think off.
Review 112:Great hotel and pub, staff were helpful food was good, breakfast and dinner, rooms comfortable too. Rooms are detached but separate from pub area so no disturbances. Surrounding were beautiful grass and trees great scenery away from the hustle and bustle of the city but attractions are just a 10 minute easy drive. Well done all at The Stag.
Review 113:Room 1 was "tired" - would certainly not describe it as luxury accommodation at the price charged. Needs redecoration, decor is quite old fashioned. Not a fan of "open plan" toilets (no wall up to ceiling height). Food very average.
Review 114:Comfortable bed/pillows. Lovely roll top bath (Room 1) Manager sourced some gluten free bread for breakfast which was great gesture.
Review 115:The room was very comfortable especially the bed. Good selection of food on the menu and excellent breakfast. The staff were very friendly and helpful so all in all a very peasent stay.
Review 116:Everyone was lovely, but a manager was working the floor on one particular morning. She appeared to be stressed which changed the atmosphere of the place.
Review 117:The room was superb and so was the breakfast. The location very rural and quiet. A great nights sleep.
Review 118:Breakfast was not ready at 8 15 and had to wait for the lady to set everything out. She did get us a coffee though. Good choice of breakfast but sadly the sausages could not have been more overcooked. The bin in the bathroom had not been emptied from previous occupier and the toilet roll holder was wobbly and roll kept falling on the floor (only minor things really).
Review 119:Friendly bar/restaurant staff. Brilliant accommodation (Room 6) Loved the patio area, being a smoker it was nice to be able to step outside with a glass of wine for a smoke.
Review 120:The room was warm, the bed comfortable and the bathroom very spacious. The room was well equipped with tea/coffee making facilities, iron and hairdryer. The wi-fi, provided by The Cloud, was the best and most efficient we have encountered in recent hotel stays.
Review 121:When we walked into the pub to check in it felt a little daunting but we needn't have worried! The owner was very welcoming, in fact all staff were! Quirky room, food great, amazing breakfast!
Review 122:Was expecting to be able to walk into Stratford but it was to far. When we arrived it was early so we knew we wouldn't be able to get in the room but the reception we received was very cold, as if we shouldn't be there yet. When we did get in the room it was very cold so after an hour we called down to reception to be told the boiler had broken and should be fixed shortly. About an hour later reception called us to say the boiler was not gong to be fixed for at least 3 days and they could offer us a room in Oxford, miles away. The boiler breaking could not be helped and the owner could not apologise enough but the woman on reception/bar requires some customer service training.
Review 123:Beautiful building, full of character, exactly what we wanted
Review 124:Short staffed no atmosphere there was a 30 minute wait for the evening meal although it wasn't busy and when we went for breakfast there was food debris from the night before on the carpet.
Review 125:The location was good and the Stag is a beautiful building with lots of character.
Review 126:The evening meal I had was not to my liking for the price I paid, the breakfast was appalling, (cold & bland)
Review 127:I liked the room very nice, the staff was fine & helpfull,
Review 128:Staff were lovely couldn't do enough for you, had the best night sleep I've ever had in a different bed, room 6 in the court yard was very clean with plenty of room we had a shower and a bath which was nice.had a problem setting up the wifi as I'm not that great on the iPad barmaid helped and had it running in no time I will book again later in the year as in the nice weather it would be lovely to sit out in the cout yard or out front of the pub. Must say how full of character this pub is and how much we enjoyed our stay there.
Review 129:Disappointed that for £90 for the night the shower was broken the wall fitting was on the side of the sink on arrival. so to have a shower you'd have to hold through hose over your head... then when doing this on two occasions of trying to shower there was no hot water :-(:-(:-(:-( rang thru to reception where woman was bit rude however man came over and said he'd put or check boiler on and to try again in 15mins.. STILL NO HOT WATER!!! ANNOYED AT COST OF ROOM WHEN NOT HAVING BASIC FACILITIES LIKE HOT WATER SPENT WEEKEND WITHOUT BE ABLE TO HAVE WASH OR SHOWER. NOT HAPPY.
Review 130:The bed was comfy and nice bar restaurant
Review 131:The rooms were very crowded and stuffy. I felt like I was suffocating in there, and the ceilings low. I could hear the couple next door having sex as if they were in my room. All footsteps, dialogue could be heard from all over. The bed was awful.
Review 132:Food was awful. Got our dinner order wrong 3 times and steak burnt on outside but raw in the middle. Breakfast was average my other half asked for poached eggs and no tomato but got fried eggs and tomato. Eggs benedict cold and eggs like rubber. My advice .... eat elsewhere.
Review 133:The location of the hotel is excellent for visiting Stratford upon Avon and Warwick. Room lovely and cosy. Bathroom clean.
Review 134:Nothing -everything was excellent
Review 135:Greeting on arrival was pleasant and efficient. The room was great- all the facilities we needed and a very comfortable bed.
Review 136:When we returned on the Tuesday, someone else had been given our room!We were told we could move, as we were on the computor as having left (which turned out to be the last customer, who hadn't paid, and had paid that day, hence the mistake). We didn't want to move out of that room, as all our belongings, including my husband's medication were still in the room!! We then saw his glasses and medication behind the bar, which had been handed in by new occupants, but unfortunately all our toiletries, clothes and bags were still in the room.In the end they moved them back out, and we stayed in the same room. We would have had to move all our belongings to another room for one night, which was unacceptable, as none of this was our fault!!!! We were also charged £177.50 for each couple instead of the £170 which was quoted when we booked. We did get the £15 total back when we signed out the following morning. We didn't get an apology from the person responsible, but we were given a drink from a male person, whom we assumed was the manager.
