Reviews for Hotel Excelsior

Review 1:The spa and sauna facilities were impeccable. Service from any part of the hotel was available 24/7 on Christmas - and the most competent and eager of staff members. I was astonished at the quality of the room and the caliber of the services, particularly in light of the price. It is harder to imagine more relaxing and romantic atmosphere.

Review 2:There is no hotel shuttle bus directly going to the airport so I had to carry my luggage to bus stop where takes about 10 mins by walk from the hotel.

Review 3:Location was perfect and condition of the room was also good. All the employees were so kind.

Review 4:only small things - like changing bed lines despite the "don't need change" sign; insufficcient draining around the jacuzzi, always wet

Review 5:Kind staff, great choice at breakfast, fine coctails at bar, cozy spa, beautiful view from room and restaurant

Review 6:Fantastic location. Go out the side north door and you will be really close to the Ploce gate. Received upgrade to suite with two balconies directly over the sea - we were in heaven. Efficient staff. Ate twice at Dalmatino as it was so good- fabulous mussels in cream sauce.

Review 7:Kinda expensive.

Review 8:Room is great (they gave us a room with seaview and the old town). I will come back for the view and location again. Beach & sea-side swimming pool is wonderful.

Review 9:Fabulous location- 5 minutes walk to old town and port but away from hustle and bustle. Stunning views and 2 minutes from a sandy beach (very rare in these parts)

Review 10:The hotel is a short walk to the old town, the rooms in the old part of the hotel were great. It is a really nice hotel with the best views of Dubrovnik.

Review 11:Not enough staff at breakfast and hot food at breakfast not 5* quality

Review 12:Location - near old town and lovely views of sea and old town from room (extra), and restaurant.

Review 13:Exellent location, withing walking distance to the old city of Dubrovnik. Good breakfast, looking at the old city Pool and spa facliities, with access to the Adriatic to relax and rest after a hard day of walking

Review 14:The food isn't great. Dustbins need to be wiped down and bathroom should have double vanities. Room terraces should be set up each day with cushions, umbrellas and tidied up at night. Not a typical turn down service. Attention to detail the Croatians haven't got yet.

Review 15:The position of the hotel.

Review 16:First bedroom had large pillar n the centre which was daunting when going to the bathroom in the night. Relocated 2nd night

Review 17:location was perfect. Sunsets over Dubrovnic amazing from hotel.

Review 18:We booked two superior sea view rooms together as we had two children with us. Despite this we ended up on different floors made worse by the fact that our sea view was spoilt due to having a huge structural column right at the bottom of our bed. Ironically our children were directly above us and had the same issue so avoid rooms 134 and 234. We spoke to the manager and eventually reached an agreeable solution...had our children been younger we might not. Breakfast selection was fantastic and couldn't fault the food however waiters were slow to clear plates. Other restaurants were ok but need more choice or change menus more frequently. Thanks to senior management we may visit again.

Review 19:Location superb.

Review 20:Ordered a burger at the beach bar downstairs - very poor.

Review 21:Breakfast was super Bedding & Pillows were the most comfortable I have ever experienced at a hotel. Great location

Review 22:We stayed in the old part of the hotel which is beautiful in itself but rooms are tired with all furniture chipped and not a lot of room to move in a standard room. You are clearly paying for location and view here - which is unbeatable!!

Review 23:Location, location, location! Lovely staff, best view of the old city - great sun baking area and private Adriatic swimming pool.... Breakfast was lovely and the overall hotel amenities were very good.

Review 24:The room we were given (312) was terrible, it felt like a cell with one tiny window overlooking a car park and the bin in the bathroom smelt. We were so looking forward to our night here in this hotel but this room in this hotel was not worth what we paid. We were so disappointed. The room service food was cold, the Internet was patchy and the phone in the room did not work. The front desk staff were surly with the exception of Dora who removed the charge for the room service as mine was inedible. There was a used condom floating near one of the steps into the sea, I know its the sea and litter is expected but this was so obvious and could have been cleaned. The floor of the woman's changing room was wet and dirty. I would not stay here again.

Review 25:The location is excellent. The pool, spa and beach are nice except the level of cleanliness of the pool area could be improved. The staff at the breakfast buffet were friendly, chatty and helpful and the breakfast was nice with a stunning view.

Review 26:Needed to order a kettle for the room; strange smell from bathroom drains sometimes; the spa was a bit disappointing for the money spent- it was in a noisy location and the therapists seemed distracted. But these are minor quibbles given the amazing city it boarders.

Review 27:Stunning location; so convenient; glad we paid extra for sea views. Nice beds and great AC. Very romantic. Cannot wait to return.

Review 28:Used to be an amazing hotel, not so anymore. There is a bad smell coming from the bathroom plumbing, through the ventilation from the kitchen, the cleanliness is not great, the rooms are tired and worn. The staff are very nice and professional, bit this hotel needs renovations top to bottom asap. Should NOT be 5 stars.

Review 29:the room was very normal if you don't have a sea view (nothing worth remembering, it would have been nice to have a complimentary basket (wine or fruits) on arrival. Also tea and coffee not put in room by default

Review 30:the facilities (pool, access to beach, restaurant on the beach...)

Review 31:Hotel location is excellent. We had a room with a huge balcony that gave us a breathtaking view of the old town. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful time - will definitely come back!

Review 32:Very disappointed with bedroom requested change but no luck , view was just a big stone wall with pipes , nasty smell in room at times , very bad for 5 star standards .

Review 33:Breakfast was brilliant and all meals , view from dining area very good. .

Review 34:The furniture and carpet are old and spent. They should refurnish the rooms.

Review 35:close to Old Town and right on the water front. Good breakfast with a lot to chose from

Review 36:every 5-star hotel room must have an iron and iron board! or at least it should be brought to the room upon the request. people dont trust hotel personell ironing their expensive clothing.

Review 37:Although the breakfast was excellent, the lunch and dinner options weren't quite up to the same standard. Still acceptable though.

Review 38:A great hotel - great location. Superb staff, The room, whilst not the largest had a superb bathroom, bed and Air con. Also the balcony was amazing too. This is the place to go in Dubrovnik.

Review 39:The service and food has gone down significantly in the last two years. I would consider these areas poor and unimpressive for the luxury hotel they pride themselves to be. I am sure there are other equally good hotels for less money.

Review 40:Location is very good.

Review 41:Classic Rooms face the back (Onto a wall). Quite a premium to get a sea view.

Review 42:Great Location, Lovely hotel. Bonus having private beach. Dubrovnik is absolutely stunning and immaculately clean. Will definetly return.

Review 43:Breakfast was poor hot food looked unappealing cold food looked spartan Salvation was eggs benedict but better choice of toast would have been good. Fridge was only a chiller but nothing cool enough to tempt me Had to on many occasions go and find waiting staff when sunbathing outside, everyone seemed to be inside

Review 44:Good location good views

Review 45:N/a

Review 46:Location near old town I.E. 10+ minute walk. Fabulous modern hotel builton-into the coastal rock and a most amazing outdoor terrace-entry to theocean. Panoramic vistas and crystal blue waters pole position forvisiting the 'gild coast' of the Adriatic!

Review 47:Terrible reception staff. Rude and not helpful. Make sure you check your bills as we were double and triple charged for many items. Initially they would not remove anything. I had to argue for 30 minutes until they realised they were wrong. Didn't even apologise and just said "it's the system that charges things by mistake" Also, one receptionist just walked away because he couldn't be bothered to look at my bills and answer my questions.

Review 48:Views are very nice and overall staff is very pleasant.

Review 49:Sea is too deep. And the little pool next to the sea is a little bit dirty and sleepery because of sea moss.

Review 50:I could see the old town and sea together in the balcony. It was beautiful.

Review 51:The hotel was a bit on the large side to get that boutique "feel" and that was reflected in the mass breakfast dining experience. We had breakfast in the room on the last day which was excellent, but I had to chase it on the phone because room service were late to deliver it. Thai restaurant food was bland and not spicey at al probably because there wasn't a Thai cook to be seen

Review 52:The location close to the old town and the spectacular views over the sea and Dubrovnik. They upgraded us to the presidential suite on the second night, which was spectacular so we could hardly do any better! Staff were friendly and efficient.

Review 53:Lovely hotel but you need to book a superior or deluxe. Basic room classic is very basic. Breakfast is very basic not 5star. Location is brilliant and facilities great. Only wifi in room.

Review 54:My only criticism was the lack of a shower screen over the bath aking it impossible to have a shower

Review 55:The facilities especially the sunbathing area adjacent to the sea which enables you to jump into the sea. An excellent buffet at the beach restaurant on the opening night of the summer festival. Idyllic venue which is used for weddings too. Piano bar good for pre dinner cocktails overlooking the harbour. Very attentive staff

Review 56:Everything about this hotel was wonderful. The stunning views across the sea to the old town of Dubrovnik from our balcony were great to wake up to. The food and service in the restaurants were top class and all the staff were friendly and spoke English.

Review 57:2 elevators to get to our top floor room But we figured out to take shortcut Breakfast staff need to be more on top of getting coffee Coffee or tea making facilities in rooms would be a good addition

Review 58:Five star hotel with a 6 star view of old town and Lokrum island and the azur Adriatic Sea! The breakfast with a view and modern pool were top amenities. 10 minute walk to Old Town makes this the Hotel to stay in Dubrovnik. Prora dining by the sea was divine spot with spectacular view of old town Dubrovnik. Our terrace had a picture perfect view of Adriactic heaven on earth. Request for top floor corner room or suite And you may never leave....

Review 59:Mattress slightly too hard for my taste, but that's a personal preference.

Review 60:Excellent location, spacious and well-appointed room, helpful staff, generous breakfast, great views from the outdoor piano bar, great indoor pool and private access to the sea

Review 61:the guy at the front desk gives you random room disregard of your booking. After I argued about it, he said there is only one room left and told me to hurry up and gave me a twin room instead, but actually I booked a double room.

Review 62:Great location and breakfast

Review 63:My only complaint is that the bed was too firm for my taste.

Review 64:Everything about this hotel was great. I cannot wait to go back to Dubrovnik and the excelsior. Walking distance to Dubrovnik.

Review 65:Staff were unattentive and useless , no form of service what so ever ! When im paying $800 australian per night i expect someone to be able to speak english ! Wifi only worked in hotel not around the pool or gym :(

Review 66:The hotel was in great location and had great facilities but there were a lot of negitives

Review 67:We got a baby cut for the room but it was too hard for our seven month old to sleep on so he slept with us. I would recommend to the hotel to buy a baby mattress for the cot (more like a playpen than anything).

Review 68:We enjoyed the proximity to the old city. The room was spacious and the bathroom was luxurious. Breakfast was also very nice each morning. The view from the hotel was spectacular as well.

Review 69:The hotel has an excellent location, kind and efficient staff, very comfortable bed, sheets & pillows. Good Wifi connection. The most beautiful view to the old city and all the spa facilities you can wish for. I loved the chocolates every night left by the bed. Thank you!

Review 70:There was no electric shaver point in the room.

Review 71:The staff were friendly and attentative, the facilities were as expected from a 5 star establishment and the views out over the Adriatic and Dubrovnik harbour are amazing.

Review 72:We didn't have a bad experience although it was slightly disappointing that the Thai restaurant in the hotel didn't have any vegetarian options at all.

Review 73:The hotel is only 5 minutes walk from the old city and its position gave fantastic views of Dubrovnik. The staff were very pleasant and our room facing the sea was extremely comfortable.

Review 74:The location, 10 minute walk to old town, was perfect for our 4 day get-away. It was close enough to get right into the hustle and bustle of old town Dubrovnik yet far enough away to have a relaxing lounge on the patio and jump into the Adriatic. Our corner suite, with views of old town and the island of Lokrum, was perfect. Lounge chairs on the balcony, two mimi bars, excellent air-conditioning and large patio doors and windows. We only spent sleep time in the room but it would be a great place to spend time on a rainy day. The staff was very accommodating, starting with airport transportation, mailing postcards and prepping breakfast boxes for our early return flight.

Review 75:The pillows were a bit uncomfortable and the coffe could have been better. No iron only ironing service.

Review 76:Location, location, location. The staff was very helpful and kind. Could not get enough of the view:)

Review 77:The most amazing location! The outdoor space was our favorite place to spend the evenings, watching the sun set behind the old city. As close as possible to the old city and still a resort to relax and enjoy a vacation.

Review 78:Just don't stay here. People are allowed to smoke on their balconies and people can walk right up to your outside door. The rooms are dark and overly expensive. This is like a large conference center hotel in Vegas. Their was multiple dentist conferences going on. The rugs need replacing and are nasty. Loud Turkish men in the pool area.

Review 79:The Spa is very nice. Get the Croatian facial..organic and the results are amazing.

Review 80:The hotel is perfectly situated near the Old City and has superb views and comfortable rooms with great decks. The pool, restaurant, spa and outdoor beach are are absolutely stunning. Unrivaled in Dubrovnik!

Review 81:TV offering for English speakers needs to be vastly improved. The news channels - BBC's, CNN, CNBC, Eskynews - are rule petitions and repetitiveti

Review 82:Everything. But location, location, location. My first choice was within the Old Town. I don't think we would have enjoyed our stay as much there.

Review 83:Twin beds pushed together rather than a double. WiFi didn't quite reach the pool.

Review 84:Staff very helpful. Spa and pool facilities great. Located very close to old town. Great view from bedroom.

Review 85:What's not to like about this fantastic hotel

Review 86:What a wonderful hotel; friendly and helpful staff - allowed us to check in hours early and gave one of my daughters a surprise birthday cake; excellent service - coffee and tea making in room facilities on request arrived within ten minutes of asking; excellent facilities - great pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room, exercise facilities and spa; varied and plentiful buffet breakfast - choice of cereals, fresh and dried fruit and hot and cold buffet; fantastic location - great views of Dubrovnik and just a ten minute amble form the centre of the city.

Review 87:the private "beach" isn't one, it's a concrete platform. It *is* at the water and you can use it to climb into the sea, but it's not a "beach"

Review 88:very close to the old town

Review 89:- We stayed 4 nights there. In the 3rd night, the strong wind made loud noises from the window that we could hardly sleep. The staff changed the room in the next day, though sacrificing our sea view.

Review 90:- Great view from the hotel restaurant - just 10 minute walk to the old city - Good breakfast

Review 91:Although the staff was friendly. They never picked up the phone. Even when calling from outside.

Review 92:We went for our honeymoon and absolutely loved it. Amazing views. Great food. And luxurious rooms. Definitely worth a visit again. The 'Energy Clinic' and the private beach are not to be missed.

Review 93:Nothing - it was a totally great experience

Review 94:The staff could not have been more welcoming and our room had stunning views over the sea and Dubrovnik old town. It took only five minutes to reach Ploce Gate and entry to the city walls which are a 'must see'. Don't miss the cable car ride to the top of Mount Srd where you have the most amazing views over the city - and Apple Cake in the restaurant.

Review 95:A little bit aged rooms. Rooms with sea view are too expensive. Spa should be somehow be more separated from swimming pool area and be more heated, especially during early season. Sauna area needs to be regularly cleaned.

Review 96:The hotel is nicely located nearby the old town. The view from the various terraces is spectacular. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are a little bit aged... But the bathrooms and amenities offset this deficiency a little bit. Take care for the recommended fish restaurant Posat - it was ripping us off. Unfortunately March was still too cold for outside swimming/ enjoying the sun.

Review 97:Staff not helpful. I asked for room upgrade with sea view and I do not think the staff made any efforts to give me the best even though the Hotel was almost empty.

Review 98:Location

Review 99:Hotel was boiling!! As the weather can be cold in January they had heating on constantly - i had to ask several times for them to turn it down in my room. The Thai restaurant is expensive, the food is good (had better though) but overpriced for what it is. One of the bar staff agreed with me.

Review 100:Rooms were very comfortable and a good size. Huge selection of drinks in the bar and lovely views (if have a sea facing room). The Thai restaurant by the bar offered nice food. They always parked my car for me and provide a nightly chocolate.

Review 101:Unable to control the temperature in the room and it was too hot Tea and coffee not provided until requested Could only use hairdryer in bathroom as it was not freestanding Blind in bathroom cumbersome TV worked intermittently

Review 102:Decor and ambience of the hotel Breakfasts were excellent efficient and helpful service from statff

Review 103:Loved this hotel located on water with fantastic views next to old town. Easy to find. Very comfortable room all round. Included buffet breakfast was delicious and restaurant staff extremely obliging. Totally recommend this hotel to all travellers.

Review 104:After staying in many four and five star hotels we found this generally very disappointing. On arrival into reception area the appearance and cleanliness of furnishings required some attention ie stains on seating and dirty windows. We reserved a double superior with seaveiw and were first shown to a dingy and grubby twin room with very limited space and partial seaveiw which we declined then we were shown a second room again with twin beds that was only converted into a double by fitting a double matteres cover! The seaveiw was interrupted by a huge concrete pillar located at the foot of the bed which also meant we had to leave a light on at night to avoid injury from walking into it !!! This also made it dark during the day ! Described as spacious and bright !! Towels and bed linen needed updating. No tea and coffee making facilities available in room (apparently available on request). Shower also leaked and flooded the bathroom! The spa facilities although good needed attention ie sharp tiles in and around the pool this also required a deep clean. The breakfast although plenty of choice was not five star quality and freshness , Very disappointed!

Review 105:The location of the hotel was very good and close to the city ,The wifi was also very good ,The l'occitane toiletries provided were excellent. The turn down service and chocolates was also a nice touch.

Review 106:Everything, one would expect that is not same during winter and summer - they would be wrong. It was perfect retreat with my wife...a big thanks to hotel staff:)

Review 107:Some restaurants shut but it was off season.

Review 108:Fantastic service, great food and facilities especially pool. Little extras like folding the bed back at night and putting a chocolate on the pillow.

Review 109:Nothing

Review 110:Walled city about 5 minutes walking, Cozy bar for a "calm" evening cocktail ..very friendly staff..clean room..breakfast room has a spectacular view of the city and the Adriatic

Review 111:The food in Abakus was good quality, but lacking in variety.

Review 112:Two staff members, Tamara and Ivana, were particularly helpful. After I had checked out, and was waiting for a bus to Split, I noticed I had left my notebook computer in my room. I called the hotel, and caught a taxi back to collect it. By the time I arrived, the notebook was at Reception. I gave a bear hug to the rather startled clerk who handed it to me.

Review 113:We had only two nights there ;-(

Review 114:1. Location is perfect - easy walk to Old Town but away from the crowds. 2. The property itself is fabulous, well-designed and impeccably maintained. 3. The staff are very helpful and attentive. 4. The room was spacious and very comfortable. 5. The buffet breakfast is wonderful.

Review 115:standard rooms without seaview are small and dark, facing an ugly wall and a street, but still cost a fair amount of money.

Review 116:beautiful location with views of the old town, which is reached easily on foot.

Review 117:The fact that we return year after year to the Excelsior should tell you everything you need to know about the hotel, its staff, the quality of service, the food and the ambience

Review 118:Our seaview room faced a roof and a big tarp on the next door property, you could see some sea if you stood in the cornor and held you head just the right way. Small cramped room, built in the communist era style.Stay somewhere else, we liked the Hilton imperial.

Review 119:Not the staff, not the need to switch elevators to get to the reception or street level. The view from the terrace was very nice.

Review 120:Hotel excelsior is really lovely. A short walk into town; tremendous views; excellent staff. Nothing was too much trouble. I hope we get chance to go again !

Review 121:The hotel is perfect for a short break in Dubrovnik - 5 mins from the Old Town. Stunning views, peaceful surroundings, friendly, helpful staff. Food and service were excellent. Spa area is very relaxing.

Review 122:THREE CALLS TO THE FRONT DESK ABOUT A DOOR ONTO THE PATIO WHICH DID NOT LOCK FROM THE ROOM AND THE MINI-BAR FRIDGE WHICH DID NOT WORK WENT UNANSWERED.

Review 123:THE HOTEL IS IN A GORGEOUS LOCATION AND HAS UNDERGONE A VERY BEAUTIFUL RENOVATION.

Review 124:- poor fitness center (poorly equipped)

Review 125:- unique location in Dubrovnik with fantastic view of the Old Town (most likely the best you can have) - just 500 metres far from the entrance to the Old Town - private access to the sea - 25m swimming pool and wellness center - great view of the old town walls if you have the room with balcony - very nice rooms in the old part of the hotel - great breakfast (plenty of various food) - free parking next to the hotel - fast free Wi-Fi

Review 126:Honestly, my family and I could not fault it. We would definitelyvisit again

Review 127:The location is superb. 10 mins walk from the old town. Sea view frombalcony has the island of Lokram straight ahead and the walls of the oldtown to the right. Beautuful outlook. The hotel is very spacious and therooms excellent. Very comfortable beds and quiet a/C. The threerestaurants are excellent and very reasonably priced (You will bepleasantly surprised at the prices of the restaurants in the old towncompared with euroland). Superb breakfast with the ability to eatoutside and enjoy the view. Really helpful staff with good English.

Review 128:Furniture in room was a bit tired and needed an upgrade. The room is not worth the nightly rate of €3000. Also whilst the room provides the best views of the old town it is also close to the beach club which played really loud music til early hours of morning (this was a Fri-Sat unsure if just at weekend). Hence reason for poor sleep.

Review 129:We received an upgrade to their presidential suite having only paid for a deluxe double. Staff friendly. Amazing views from room and from breakfast dining area. Room was massive. Nice sheets and very clean also luxury bathroom products. Best for location to old town.

Review 130:That when we check in they first gave us a tini room with a smal parcial view from the see, as we book with see view. So after trying twise to chit us, they gave us a very nice room, the one they should give from the bigining.

Review 131:The terrace, the food, the restaurant in the beach, the beach, the fitness, the bar with the piano, everything like a six stars hotel
