Reviews for Portbyhan Hotel

Review 1:We ate dinner at the hotel did not enjoy the meal at all it was almost inedible and I only had a burger. Breakfast was good and the service was good

Review 2:staff were helpful friendly and nothing was too much trouble . Room was clean and comfortable.

Review 3:The hotel caters to bus tours. That may not be your style.

Review 4:Step out the front door of the hotel and you are on the waterfront...helpful, enthusiastic, staff. Good range of food for the cafeteria style breakfast.

Review 5:Nothing

Review 6:Location - on the river, West Looe side, near the ferry. View from the terrace is fantastic. Also the parking arrangements, use the local car park at £5.50 per day and when you buy a bar drink they'll credit £5.50 against it.

Review 7:Our room was pretty muggy most of the time so we had to sleep with the windows open to air the room to ease this a little.

Review 8:Fantastic location, staff and accomodation. Couldn't really ask for much more! Would highly recommend this as your place to stay should you be visiting Looe.

Review 9:Great location, 2 mins walk into the town, the room was clean and enough room for two, nice breakfast overlooking the harbour, staff were friendly and helpful a fab stay would book again.

Review 10:Shower was either boiling or even more boiling.warning for the step up into the bathroom my wife tripped and banged her arm on the door frame.

Review 11:Beautiful location.very helpful friendly staff.

Review 12:The only things I would change (very minor) would be the shower - you get a lovely temperature, then half way through it goes boiling hot or cold. The breakfast was really nice but I would like to have seen some hash browns. The wi-fi is the only thing which really affected us. One afternoon we wanted to sit on the roof terrace to chill in the sun but the wi-fi doesn't stretch to the roof terrace which seems silly as in the bar below it works fine, and even our room which was above the roof terrace it worked fine.

Review 13:The hotel is really clean and modern. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They also make you feel very welcome and remember the little things.

Review 14:it rained x

Review 15:i loved everything about this hotel, i stayed for one night with my family as we was picking up a puppy from accross the bay, i had drove 300 miles to get there and had the best nights sleep ever which really helped for my 300 mile drive home we wished we could have stayed longer x

Review 16:Very very poor restaurant experience, if you get there after the coach party there's nothing left on the menu! Most limited breakfast I have ever experienced, cereal and juice, no fresh fruit, buffet English with tinned tomatoes and mushrooms and no alternative

Review 17:Location, pleasant staff

Review 18:Overnight parking is £2 but it gets really expensive after 8am. There was a noise extractor very close to our room, so we had to keep the window closed and it was a warm night. We could also hear the room next door cleary.

Review 19:Wifi, Breakfast, location.

Review 20:the bathroom, too smal, very small shower. No space to put your thing around the sink. The carpet in the bedroom.Always feel not so clean. Small stairs to get up.

Review 21:the gorgeous view very nice staff: put our picnic in the fridge over night, gave us tea to take away for our walk. good breakfast with gluten free bread, a choice of eggs . No soya milk, but in Devon, it is hard to find. free wifi a bit pricy

Review 22:Breakfast was a bit disorganised but they did have a coach trip staying at the same time.

Review 23:The location was excellent and a lovely new hotel with excellent staff.

Review 24:Excellent and peaceful stay. Convenient for exploring and walks around Looe. The views across were beautiful. The staff went out of their way to be helpful.

Review 25:Cannot fault this hotel. Staff were so friendly, helpful and generous, even offering us an extra room for our teenage son when the booking got mixed up.(we booked a family room for 4,they had a booking for 3).

Review 49:Friendly staff, good facilities and food

Review 50:Hear other guest in next room very clearly

Review 51:The view

Review 52:Pleasant hotel with extremely helpful and friendly staff. When I left my charger in the room they had it posted to me with no problem.

Review 53:Parking arrangements.

Review 54:The view and the comfortable bed. Friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere.

Review 55:Parking nearby if you're lucky but costs a fortune. Stated there wasa restaurant but it was closed & had to walk a long way to another.Mattress very uncomfortable so put duvet on floor and slept there!

Review 56:breakfast was barely adequate with a very poor choice of cereals, no fresh fruit, boring sliced bread, rather greasy fried breakfast. i was told that there will be a new kitchen with better breakfast choices. why not improve breakfast now?

Review 57:the hotel is under new management and is undergoing refurbishment which is very badly needed especially the public rooms. my room had been refurbished; it was simply furnished with no frills but clean and comfortable. the hotel is in a good position with a great view of the harbour. the hotel should be reviewed when the changes are complete.

Review 58:No hotel parking, but not really an issue as there was a cheap long stay car park not too far away. Need to keep the windows open because of the summer heat, but if you go in the seagull fledging season take some earplugs - the gulls can be very loud early in the morning.

Review 59:Decent size room and facilities

Review 60:The breakfast. Very poor indeed. Not hot enough. Not fresh. Eggs were not free range. Also the hair dryer fused.

Review 61:Clean and comfortable. Friendly staff. Handy location for picking up the coastal path going west. Nice part of town. Views from the room were stunning.

Review 62:Rooms and hotel generally are more than a little tired. Cleanliness not great especially in the bathroom. No Fans or Aircon available during heatwave.

Review 63:Location and helpful, friendly attitude of the staff.

Review 64:We arrived hungry only to be told that we were unable to have dinnerat the hotel, that they only accomodated buses. We were advised to goto a pub nearby by the receiptionist, however they did not servedinner. We finally found a place to eat about 3/4 mile away atough uphill walk.

Review 65:Nice area, good view from room. Good daytime shopping.

Review 66:No on site parking at this hotel but car parks are nearby. The shower room / toilets are small, but adequate.

Review 67:Great location with views from the room. Staff were friendly and helpful. Good breakfast overlooking the bay. Id stay here again without hesitation.

Review 68:they did not recieve the booking from you and only just managed to get us in because they had a large party from wales who took most of the rooms

Review 69:clean room and great views

Review 70:Decoration was a little dated and tired. Keeping the hotel manager awayfrom paying guests would be a good idea.

Review 71:Excellent breakfast, helpful and friendly waiting and bar staff.(Apart from the loud and aggressive drunk hotel manager in the bar -what an idiot!)

Review 72:perhaps more choice in breakfast. fruit provided perhaps some yoghurt to go with it. free parking was some distance away but this would be for all hotels. ok for us but more inconvenient for older people or those with small children.

Review 73:excellent position in Looe very close to all amenities. staff friendly, good breakfast included.

Review 74:Car parking is a bit of a problem but I was given good advice to use the large car park over the bridge. at only £5.30 for 24 hour stay, thats as cheap as chips and as your prices are affordable I don't think anyone will complain at that. David.

Review 75:I I liked the fact you were all doing a great job inspite of the fact you were on change over of ownership. your staff were all kind and helpful, carry on like that and you will soon have a great business with people coming back time after time. David.

Review 76:No car parking on site and had to use pay and display car park. Had a fire exit night light in room that left room in a 'half' light which made sleeping difficult.

Review 77:location on the quayside was excellent and the breakfast very good.

Review 78:Radio on in dining area at breakfast. Music played jarred on nerves! Gentle, relaxing music, however, would've been fine.

Review 79:The helpful man on reception on the morning of departure.

Review 80:I was not told there would be no bar or evening catering as their 'summer season; had not yet begun. One of the sausages was uncooked at breakfast.

Review 81:I appreciated the lovely view from the room, looking over the estuary towards East Looe.

Review 82:The hotel needed a great deal of refurbishment however this did not spoil our break. We learned when checking out that the hotel was in administration and had been since last June but it was hoped that a buyer would soon be found. We hope so too as it is in a fantastic spot. Parking was a bit of a bother but once we found the main town car park where we could leave the car for 24 hours for £5.20 it was ok. Lack of hotel parking is not made clear enough.

Review 83:The location was key to our stay in Looe. We had a room overlooking the quay with a balcony. Fantastic. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good.

Review 84:Booked this Hotel as it used to have a good reputation. Verydisappointed.Bedroom very tired as was the whole Hotel. Cobwebs inbedroom - shower had unsightly water mould around the unit and doorhinge.Tar on bedroom carpet. Tv very poor.Breakfast starters very sparseand cooked food was running in oil. No hotel car park so necessary topark on public car park on Quayside: had to pay between 18.00 and 08.00so necessary to "Top up" at 08.00 (park attendants very"efficient"! Thank goodness evening meals not served out ofseason!! Overall, very poor and definitely not value for money. In replyto q 5 - yes would recommend West Looe to other travellers but notstaying at Portbyhan.

Review 85:Harbour view

Review 86:The view from the window was gorgeous, location - very convenient, and the overall experience with very helpful staff was very pleasant and made our stay at this hotel one of the highlights of the whole our trip.

Review 87:Broken balcony furniture, bad wiring and slightly scruffy decor.

Review 88:View from balcony room. Friendly staff, bar and lounge area. location.

Review 89:Seagulls in the early hours!!!!!!
