Reviews for City Lodge

Review 1:Housekeeping didn't replace tea coffee sachets. Special touches missing - no tissue boxes, no hand towels , no replacement of soaps etc

Review 2:The staff very good Room nice

Review 3:nothing! however I stayed during the week. there is a nightclub across the road that i imagine could have been problematic during the weekend.

Review 4:very friendly staff, comfortable bed, room and ensuite were both clean and tidy. loved that tea, coffee, fruit, water and biscuits were provided in the room.

Review 5:The room was a little noisy especially as it was a Monday night but it would not stop me from staying there again

Review 6:Clean, spacious room in a central location

Review 7:Being located in the middle of a nightclub area. No parking.

Review 8:Easy to find. Very comfortable beds, deep bath with shower plenty of hot water. Loved our room.

Review 9:No Breakfast offered, but to be fair this is well publicised so we made our own arrangements.

Review 10:Great location close to the town centre, with a cheap car park 200 yards away, which is free on Sundays. Hotel very clean and full of character. Very comfortable bed.

Review 11:Parking on street was readily available but might not always be. It is free after 6pm but you need to feed the meter the night before you have to get up at 8am to feed it!

Review 12:Clean, everything needed was there and the staff were very helpful.

Review 13:Lovely staff, lovely room, amazing building, central location. Had a fantastic stay and would definitely recommend it to a friend and would definitely return.

Review 14:Poor bedroom sound proofing, as drunk in room above made so must noise at 0100hrs that he woke us

Review 15:Staff where excellent, the receptionist provided her own personal fruit tea as non was provided by the hotel. The night porters was excellent in sorting out the noise from the bedroom above.

Review 16:There is a small bar and eating area, which was actually nice and cosy. However when all the table were full diners had to go to the dining room, which is where breakfast was served. This was fine for breakfast, but had no atmosphere at for dinner. While the cooked breakfast was excellent, tea and coffee was self service, with water for the tea in a large vacuum flask, which isn't boiling and does not make a good cup of tea. Thankfully the coffee was lovely.

Review 17:There isn't a reception at this pub and had to sign in at the bar. The barman was a genuinely nice guy and very efficient. Booking in was quick and we were even shown to our room, something that rarely happens in this country. As well as tea and coffee making facilities there was a complimentary bottle of water each, always welcome. Our room had a good size bathroom with a shower that didn't leak all over the floor. The room was triple glazed as it overlooked the main road, and it worked well. we had dinner in the pub and it was excellent, with good friendly service. The breakfast was also first class, served by the same lady who served dinner, and she was still cheerful.

Review 18:The single room I used was with sealed window that could not be opened. The AC could not deliver enough fresh air so the air was not good.

Review 19:Well located, nice staff, clean.

Review 20:There are very few hotels in Salisbury that have on site parking. Visitors need to use municipal parking and some of this cannot be accessed after 8.00pm. This needs to be made clear when booking.

Review 21:Although the hotel is basic the staff were very helpful.

Review 22:DON'T STAY HERE ON WEEKENDS!! Club over the road doesn't finish until 4 in the morning... no sound blocks in hotel (not their fault I apprecaite but horrid nevertheless)

Review 23:Problem with heater in the room - sorted quickly

Review 24:Staff very welcoming on arrival. Location was excellent, just a short walk to the centre of Salisbury. The Citylodge was very clean and the facilities available were excellent.

Review 25:I got a restaurant recommendation, but then the restaurant would not give me the promised discount.

Review 26:I like the style of the hotel, my room felt comfortable and nice.

Review 27:Hotel is opposite a nightclub so can be a bit noisy , the window is sealed so not able to open at all, it does help to deaden the sound though, Roof slopes in room 19 and as room not large awkward to manoeuvre round the bed.

Review 28:Very clean, staff friendly and helpfull good location

Review 29:The City Lodge is a 'basic' hotel with few amenities. However, its central location in the City is very good, the staff are always very helpful and the rooms are of reasonable comfort given the price.City Lodge - recommended

Review 30:Great value for money. Very friendly staff, the location is excellent, right in the centre of Salisbury. A great place and great starting point for Stonehenge. Beds are so comfy!

Review 31:The walls were a bit thin, so we could hear conversations being had outside the rooms.

Review 32:The location, the clean rooms, the availability of wi-fi, friendly staff.

Review 33:Thin walls (could hear next room's occupant snoring). Only two towels (I like to wrap my hair in one, but that would have left no dry towel for my partner). Bed too soft and duvet too hot (but no alternative bedding readily available). Room was very small and cramped, and smelled like wet dog. Kettle lid was dusty. Shower wouldn't drain, and we discovered this was due to a HUGE matted wodge of hair wrapped around the plug and clogging up the drain. Urg. £70 a night seemed like reasonable value, but by the time you've added in your breakfast and parking, it's more like £95, which is a bit steep for what I considered very low rent accommodation. I slept badly both nights. Oh, and we were woken at 4.30 am by other guests talking and laughing loudly in the corridor for some minutes.

Review 34:good central location. Cheap car park was very close and convenient. Staff were friendly.

Review 35:I was a little disappointed with the bathrooms being quite small but it wasn't that much of a big deal

Review 36:The reception staff where lovely it was nice there was someone all the time on the desk and even getting in later on in the night they were helpful

Review 37:Pillows were too hard for my liking. Only 1 towel per person in room.

Review 38:Very comfy beds and helpful staff. Perfect location for town centre. Was given extra towels as soon as I asked for them.

Review 39:Carpet did not appear to have been vacuumed. Struggled to sleep due to neighbouring room leaving bathroom extractor fan on until 3 am, making a rattling noise right next to my head.

Review 40:Friendly 24-hr front desk. Comfortable bed. Free fruit. Plenty of hot water.

Review 41:Wonderful central location near food, pubs, attractions, hotel is charming and historic, service was excellent, room was comfortable and clean. I would stay here again.

Review 42:Old building begets no insulation from your neighbor plus the tub fills up like a bath when showering :(. Also, there are 2 night clubs directly across the street that go until 3 am on Saturday . I still would have stayed here but just not on a Saturday.

Review 43:The bed was super comfy, the location was close enough to shops and the cathedral. I loved that I woke up to the view of the steeple!!! The staff are all superb , helpful and so nice loved their help as I am not a native Brit :)

Review 44:Mattresses a bit soft - dipped in the middle. Very creaky floorboards - could hear people walking around in the room above all the time.

Review 45:Location was perfect. Near a carpark which was inexpensive.

Review 46:As with many places in small English cities, parking was at a premium.

Review 47:Location near the centre of Salisbury was excellent. The staff were extremely helpful.

Review 48:Excellent situation, if you stay at week-ends get a room around the back as there is a disco opposite hotel, or just take your hearing aids out. Third stay at this hotel.

Review 49:No sleeping at this place if you have a room at the front when the nightclub across the street is on. They have a lot of nerve charging anything for those rooms on those nights. When I complained they refunded me a whole £5.

Review 50:Within walking distance to where I needed to be.

Review 51:Good location just a couple of minutes from a car park (free 3-6pm and all day Sunday). Easy 5 minutes to the centre. Hotel seemed quiet even though there is a club open across the road Friday and Saturday.

Review 52:Lovely hotel clean and tidy nice and modern. Proper bathroom on our room not a tiny en suite! Opposite a local nightclub literally over the road. Fine for us as this was where we went but if you don't want the nightlife maybe not the ideal place.

Review 53:parking is only available at a nearby parking lot and is limited to 11:00 AM (free during the night until 08:00)

Review 54:lovely and helpful staff, excellent location, simple yet comfortable and clean

Review 55:The facilities, while spartan and very small, were clean and functional. We had a large bathroom and tea making facilities. The staff provided anything they could to make the stay pleasant. Not an issue that they don't have a restaurant on the premises. Lots of good options within walking distance. The beds were very comfortable, probably the best we had over our entire trip. Location was excellent, considering the price, lending itself to walking down the best parts of the town.

Review 56:small bath, no big bath sheet towells, not enough tea bags, milk etc

Review 57:comfy beds tv channels free wifi! very clean and being able to be accomodated in the room i needed due to medical reasons, brilliant.

Review 58:And the next night I was not given a different room until 10 o'clock at night. I am 76 years old so this was not acceptable.

Review 59:The position of the City Lodge was good but, even though I ticked the box to have a quiet room, I was placed in a front room opposite the night club so had no sleep.

Review 60:Breakfast wasnt included. Room was basic with no amenities. We expected continental breakfast as it was am expensive room. Salisbury hasnt got any cafes or coffee bars & I dont think "brunch" is an option either a very primitive town.

Review 61:Room clean & quiet.Bed comfy

Review 62:Nightclub on other side of road had banging music until 4am. Tiny room.Fan in bathroom sounding like it was about to explode. Shower notworking. Tv had 1 channel. Paid 70 quid for about 3 hours sleep. Staffdidn't care. Disgusted.

Review 63:The biscuits.

Review 64:Booking.com did not help us find the most local car park for the hotel, it took us until we checked in to find out that we had parked somewhere expensive, until the hotel told us to park in Culver Rd, so the details through the website need to be clearer, as the car park isn't well signposted.

Review 65:Nice and clean room, well looked after hotel, with friendly staff.

Review 66:The extractor fan in the bathroom was very noisy so I didn't often turn this light on. Also the toilet was rather too near the bath/shower. Single glazed windows but with good thick curtains. Rather small heater.

Review 67:Pleasant helpful staff. Asked about the nearest launderette. Unfortunately this only allowed you to start washing from 15.30... My ground floor double-bed room had an internal window view so fairly quite, apart from the occasional noise of the people just up above. The dual-carriage way road is not far away but you couldn't hear this indoors. Good large TV screen and a decent sofa at the end of the bed.

Review 68:It's situated opposite a nightclub that is open until about 5am and so we had drunk people leaning against our windows shouting. The ceilings are not soundproofed and we could hear upstairs walking about really loudly and coming in at 2am making lots of noise! The water pipes run through the bedroom really loudly!!

Review 69:its close to restaurants as the hotel doesn't serve any food, including breakfast. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean.

Review 70:Very noisy early in the morning. With workers arriving and then moving rubbish bins over cobbles. No grab handles to easy access the shower (over bath). No lift when expected to carry up your own cases.

Review 71:There was a nightclub opposite the hotel

Review 72:Room was clean and tidy, staff were very friendly and great location close to city centre. I would stay here again

Review 73:The doors were noisy to close and the ceilings are not soundproofed ! But this didn't detract from a comfortable nights sleep

Review 74:cleanliness, location, facilities ie. water / toiletries, apple etc

Review 75:There was no shower in the bathroom, and the bath wasn't full size either. The plug wasn't water tight, so when trying to have a bath I kept having to add more water! The room was on the 2nd floor and although I'm not tall, I kept banging my head.

Review 76:The bed was comfortable and I got a decent night's sleep.

Review 77:un able to open window ventilation was only by a recirculating air conditioner and moisture was on the window by morning which meant that you are breathing the same air

Review 78:very clean

Review 79:It was a comfy room, but a bit too small for someone travelling internationally with luggage. No room to place suitcases and it needed a small shelf in the bathroom to place shavers, toothbrushes. There was also no holder for the toilet paper.

Review 80:Close to shops, cafes, cathedral etc.

Review 81:The hotel was centrally located but just away from the busy areas. The staff were extremely helpful and cheerful. My room was very quiet, modern fittings and well maintained

Review 82:Bedroom very small with low sloping ceilings but the cleanliness and location more than made up for that

Review 83:Situated close to the city centre. Very clean and friendly staff

Review 84:Opposite extremely noisy nightclub till 2am at least. Fortunately husband had some earplugs for us both. Would recommend campaigning the council to impose a late-opening ban on the nightclub as I couldn't recommend the hotel on a Saturday night & wouldn't consider staying here again because of this.

Review 85:Clean comfy room. Good staff.

Review 86:No breakfast and for the price I would expect something more, my room wasopposite a night club that stayed open till 5am was everyone left Bout 6am the street cleaners appeared = no sleep !!!!

Review 87:Wifi

Review 88:Hotel right in the Centre of night club land. Constant banging music, sreaming, fighting people and police constantly arriving.Room 9 (ours) has a bay window overlooking the street. No sleep for 6hrs ie from 10.30 to 04.30. The web site says you "might experience some street noise and that acoustic glazing has been added". This is not true, we might as well have been inside the nightclub in our bed. 02.30 hours made a formal complaint to reception and insultingly were offered ear plugs as the best they could do. Was informed the manager would be available to speak with us at 07.00 this also proved to be untrue as....guess what, not available for 3 days. We were on a cycling tour with 55 miles to complete the next day. Needless to say we were not able to complete this and had the added expense of train fares together with a throughly spoilt trip. Do not stay there.

Review 89:Nothing

Review 90:the staff at city lodge are very helpful , i have booked the hotel for many years when I visit the great dorset steam fair , there is a kettle to make tea or coffee and biscuits , plus a couple of apples , the room is cleaned every day .

Review 91:Above our room were very squeaky floorboards, they were also not sound proof! Every time someone used the toilet it was as they were in the room. Then when they flushed it, I suspect the water was coming down a pipe in our room! We had to be up at 5am, so sadly for us we had little sleep!!

Review 92:Location good for us. Space, clean.

Review 93:allocated room ? sheets not changed. Room felt damp. Very helpful receptionist,. reallocated to better room, no1. which could do with nets to window, had to have curtains closed for privacy, as other residents outside window parking their bikes.

Review 94:location

Review 95:Nightclub noise. Couldnt open a window. Air conditioning was noisy . Bath took too long to empty and the plug area is brown . The was a shower head but you couldn't have a proper shower. Room was far too small and clostraphobic.

Review 96:Location

Review 97:View from the room was straight into someone else's room so had to keep half of the curtain closed. Same for bathroom so had to keep blind down. Lots of noise from Salisbury Saturday nightlife but that was not down to the hotel. Would have been good to have car parking details on booking.

Review 98:Location was excellent. Staff extremely friendly and efficient. Room very clean and comfortable.

Review 99:Bit close to nightclubs, if you're a light sleeper it may be an issue, wasn't for us but just a comment.

Review 100:Lovely room, separate bedroom, seating/TV area, bathroom. Nice greeting on arrival.

Review 101:Okay, hotels have to start making a queen-sized bed (US size system). The room had a smaller one. It is not uncommon nor unexpected, but it has to end. I will pay 20 Euro more to make sure that I get one.

Review 102:Wonderful location. The front desk folks gave us helpful parking information. The room was charming despite its small size. And I thought that the bathroom was well designed.

Review 103:The room was very very small. Bathroom: no shower holder (how hard can it be to place that?) and no shower screen so the bathroom gets all flooded. The room was not worth the 70 pounds we paid for it (rather 40).

Review 104:Hotel was in city centre, that is comfortable; staff was kind and very helpfull. Room was clean.

Review 105:Noise from rooms next door, can hear everything in the morning which means a lie in is not possible which is a shame as the bed is very comfortable.

Review 106:Great Location, paid parking right outside (free at night). Very comfortable bed. Very quiet from outside noise even though inside city centre.

Review 107:Our room was fine but not for tall people.. roof was so low that my boyfriend bumped his head few times.. especially the bathroom + we missed shower.. parking is also complicated there..

Review 108:Quite little place, kind staff, close to town centre, clean room with nice refreshments

Review 109:Room was probably just renovated but it had a strong smell of paint but unable to leave window open as it had no security on ground floor which opened onto a courtyard. The bathroom drain was also smelly and noisy as was the fan. Bath was dangerous to shower in with no rails to hold onto. I didn't realise the "Free Cancellation" policy was within 48hrs of booking - unreasonable compared with many other Booking.com properties. No breakfast.

Review 110:good location, comfortable bed, nice staff on reception

Review 111:The room was a very small double ,not advertised as small .Unable to walk round bed without banging head on sloping ceilings .No opening window therefore very stuffy without air con .Bathroom could have been cleaner. This room was only big enough to be a single .

Review 112:The location was ideal for walking into the centre of the town and for the Cathedral.

Review 113:Churchill Room - Extremely noisy if you sleep on sofa bed in the room - pub nearby going on all night and even with earplugs, I could hear them (on a Wednesday night). The other bed located in a different room was spacious and quiet.

Review 114:Great job at remodelling an old inn. The bathroom was huge and beautiful.

Review 115:One day, the cleaners came to clean the room , I was not ready and asked them to come back in 10 minutes, they never came back and the room was not cleaned whatsoever

Review 116:The reception staff were very polite and friendly

Review 117:The bed wasn't very comfortable and the pillows were lumpy.

Review 118:The hotel was very well located and the staff were very friendly and could not do enough for us. The room although not huge was adequate and was clean and well serviced. Extra towels were no problem.

Review 119:friendly and most helpful staff, a snack breakfast provided in the rooms for those who don't need much. so cost is kept down Will most definitely stay again

Review 120:The room itself was a little small but lovely however it was on the road side of the building which is right next to a night club. This was not mentioned at all on the booking.com website or their own so we heard clubbers until about 3:30am with no discount when we complained. It was also the same price as our friend's room at the back of the hotel who had no disturbance and we weren't given a choice when booking it.

Review 121:Close to the centre of town and near by multi-storey car park.

Review 122:We had booked a double room, and asked if we could bring a small blow up bed for our 3 year old daughter. This was agreed as ok, but when we arrived they had put us in a room with a fold out sofa bed for our daughter - excellent touch! The staff were very friendly and the room clean and spacious. The only issue is lack of parking and that you need to park in the multi-storey about 2 minutes walk away, but that was very reasonable (free after 3pm).

Review 123:the hotel was just across the road from a nightclub. however there was extra soundproofing and there was minimal noise

Review 124:the staff were all very helpful and it was just a short walk to all the city attractions

Review 125:Whilst there are lots of places to eat within a very short distance from the lodge, it is a pity that absolutely no food (other than biscuits and apples) are available in the lodge itself.

Review 126:Location is superb, so close to everything.

Review 127:Big dip in mattress. Stained coffee cups.

Review 128:Upgraded to large twin room with bay window. Modern bathroom. Large wardrobe. Tea/Coffee making facilities; biscuits; bottled water; apples (nice touch). Air con. Mounted TV. Bath products. Location. Staff.

Review 129:Parking is an issue in the City (always has been) and this hotel has no parking of its own so you will need to look at public car parking, not far away but check with the hotel and build in the cost.

Review 130:Great location for Salisbury City Centre

Review 131:The sound isolation was simply non-existent. It seemed that the walls between the rooms were just a couple of centimeters thick. But fortunately, we had a big pack of earplugs with us, so it wasn't too bad for our sleep :)

Review 132:After the hotels on the South coast where we stayed earlier in our trip, this one in Salisbury was an incredible advancement for similar price: spacious room, comfortable bed, modern and well-equipped bathroom. We also enjoyed the proximity to the main sights of the town, as well as free overnight parking just a block away, fast wi-fi, professional and helpful reception.

Review 133:Rooms were too small, but the staff helped us move to larger rooms.

Review 134:No space in the front lobby. No breakfast. Rooms need to be vacuumed. Staff was wonderful and very supportive. They held our luggage so that we could explore more.

Review 135:The room was to small (last floor) and in the attic. Most of the times if you are not careful, you will hit your head :) The bathroom has no window, and it becomes steamy very fast. Our room key didn't work and the stuff had to come all the time with us to unlock the room. In the morning at 09:00 the cleaning lady entered the room without knocking at the door. Just entered. Good thing we were decent :)

Review 136:Great location, good wifi connection.
