Reviews for Allawah Bendigo
Review 1:Ironing board was an issue. Too small and kept collapsing. Don't book some rooms unless you can handle 3 flights of stairs.
Review 2:Excellent position. Comfortable and clean, light and airy.
Review 3:Not a complaint but could do with more shelving, hanging space.
Review 4:Location, just walk out to the main areas in Bendigo. Great breakfast in Wine Bank. Sit on balcony, quiet and comfortable.
Review 5:Our room was on the ground floor and outside our window was a seating area for the wine bar patrons! I reported a broken chair in our room twice to the bar staff but nothing was done about it; as it was the only chair it caused a bit of inconvenience. Also, the tv was situated to the side of the bed so nigh on impossible to view: (especially as we had no chairs to sit on)! There was no one person to see, as staff seemed to be casuals & a different face every time we went to the counter in the bar.
Review 6:The room was modern & comfortable and close to the centre of town
Review 7:Fabulous location close to Rosalind park and Bendigo Art Gallery. Leave the car and walk to all the attractions Bendigo has to offer, including great restaurants and good shopping in the CBD. Loved our stay, will stay longer next time.
Review 8:Room was adjacent to outside bar, which was very loud on Sunday and in early evenings. Lack of privacy as you had to close curtains & blinds in bathroom, which made you feel like a locked up prisoner
Review 9:Room comfort was OK, and well presented
Review 10:One young girl a little sour but not enough for me too complain to management. I think its just kids of today & my mum was being a typical pensioner.... so I can slightly understand her frustration & she was polite majority of the time.
Review 11:Great feel, excellent location, nice rooms. Tasty food :)
Review 12:One ply toilet paper really is inexcusable in quality accommodation. Not enough pillows. Only one side table and lamp despite having enough space and power points. Wifi very limited
Review 13:Beautifully restored, centrally located in the cultural precinct, adjacent to Wine Bank bottle shop and restaurant, charming outside seating area. Lovely staff and wait staff. Great selection of local wines.
Review 14:The bed was a little small as I was sharing with my teenage daughter. Would be perfect for a solo traveler tho!
Review 15:Location was great. Staff were great. Really good value for money.
Review 16:Parking was not easy. The accommodation was on a footpath between outside toilets and bar - people outside late at night talking loudly. No seating, couldnt watch tv without moving bed.
Review 17:Location
Review 18:Items in rooms not renewed. eg tissues and shampoo. Maisonette 2 TV hard to watch from bed.
Review 19:Closeness to the town. Courtyard with tables and chairs to relax and read. Friendly staff Bed comfortable.
Review 20:It was a bit noisey until about 3am but it is situated at major intersection and was saturday night. I didnt like seeing dirty marks (coffee? Blood?) on pillowcase.
Review 21:The room was clean and the bed was really comfortable. I really liked the atmosphere of the room.
Review 22:No a problem for us just yet but visitors should be aware that the stairs in old buildings like this are quite steep.
Review 23:Great location in the heart of Bendigo. The room was large, bright and comfortable. The restuarant below was excellent for dinner and so to was the Bank Cafe opposite for breakfast.
Review 24:We were in Bendigo for the twin annual wine events in Bendigo and Heathcote. Perfectly located on the edge of the lush Rosalind Park, a few metres from Bengigo Art Gallery and minutes walk from the main shops and restaurants. Good quality accomodation in a historic building.
Review 25:The noise from the tables placed outside our window meant that we were disrupted and couldn't have the windows open
Review 26:The location was great, the staff were friendly and the room provided everything required although not keen on a std double bed
Review 27:The price was good, the room and building that it was in, were beautiful, the staff were friendly and there was a lovely dog which I could have taken home with me.
Review 28:The Wine Bar has hundreds of wonderful wines at very reasonable prices - great place for a drink - the food was hit & miss. Had some dishes that worked a treat and a couple of odd ones.
Review 29:Very comfortable bed, great central location
Review 30:Bathroom could have been a little bigger and could do with a couple of chairs and table against the wall to watch TV oh and the car park entrance could do with some lighting at night but still good place to stay.
Review 31:Good location in heart of the city
Review 32:not applicable, we had a lovely stay.
Review 33:They upgraded us to a lovely flat for the same price, because there was no ground floor units available as we requested online, due to my husband using a walker to get around.
Review 34:We had great difficulty finding your establishment. The room was not cleaned and made up during our two-night stay.Wonderful, central location.
Review 35:The location, central to cafes and sights. The quiet surroundings. The stylish indoor design.
Review 36:Stairs to climb with luggage, no offer of assistance. Noisy staircase outside room so all footsteps of other occupants echoing loudly when they return to their rooms at all hours. No proper table in the room, just a flimsy fold up one and no chair in the room.
Review 37:The location
Review 38:Very loud in the maisonettes at night with patrons going to the bathroom
Review 39:I was not happy with my rooom because we had a small baby and it was very loud at night I was very impressed with the assistance by the staff to find s solution
Review 40:the only thing wrong was with staying there was the bed was hard and pillows hard could hear the people in the next room and people walking around upstairs but when i got to sleep it was ok.
Review 41:very clean
Review 42:I couldn't pick up the wifi signal.my friend did, but it kept on dropping out. Also there needs to be a mirror in the room to use as the bathroom is adequate but tiny, so only one person could be in there.
Review 43:Location and facilities.
Review 44:It was raining on arrival and it was hard to find my wat to the room without getting drenched.
Review 45:Very clean and very comfortable bed. A great combination of old and new.
Review 46:Bathroom in the maisonette is very small - more a quibble than a complaint but worth noting.
Review 47:Excellent all round - very cozy, well located and loaded with atmosphere.
Review 48:Our room had a non working heater, but they were unaware until we told them so hopefully it will be fixed. The bed was comfortable, but only a double. There was more than enough room for a queen so I'm not sure why they only have the smaller double beds.
Review 49:Maisonette rooms were comfortable and modern. Bathroom was small, but perfectly adequate for an overnight stay (excellent shower!). Kitchen had a proper sink, bar fridge and a microwave, big tick!
Review 50:I had baby cockroaches throughout my room and I don't think the carpet had been cleaned in a while
Review 51:Location was great, and the old historic feel was nice
Review 52:Not easy to find where to book in and not clearly signed that you need to book in at the wine bar.
Review 53:Walking distance to everything and the bar/ restaurant down stairs was good.
Review 54:Noise from other guests upstairs. Free WiFi was good but difficult to make connection in the room - OK when in the bar/restaurant area.
Review 55:Comfort of the room. Quality of the food.
Review 56:I was going to have a champagne on arrival from the mini bar, but decided not to due to the price of the bottle on the mini bar menu. A 200ml bottle of Australian sparkling wine was $25. Thinking this was a mistake, I rang reception who informed me that was the correct price. My suggestion is to offer another cheaper option on the mini bar. Crown was $7.00 which is what you would expect to pay for that.
Review 57:Lovely warm gas log heater, as it was almost 0 degrees outside. Quiet, clean room with a very comfortable bed.
Review 58:The three rooms at this location opened into a restaurant courtyard seating 40 people. In midsummer it would be impossible to get any rest and to get to your room it would be necessary to wend your way through noisy diners.
Review 59:When we event.ually found the property it was in a central position with easy access to CBD. Fortunately mid week in mid July the courtyard the rooms opened on to could not be used.
Review 60:Address is 5 MacKenzie but Reception is in the Wine Bank which is in View St. So we parked up the back in the rain and had long uncovered walk without clear repeated indication of where to find reception not expecting to have to walk so far down stairs through a door which doesn't have reception marked on it into the back of a bar when we are expecting a reception desk then having to ask directions. Then having to go all the way back with luggage to get in the car to drive over to our room at Fountain View apartments, over the other side of View St. Why don't you make it easier for guests by changing your published / advertised address to the View St address and put up a bigger sign for Allawah that one can see from the street in View street. If you persist with the current address please provide it with adequate, easier to see street signage and more directional signage to the reception. Even to mention where reception is in your acceptance of the booking.
Review 61:Tiny bathroom, difficult to navigate. No weather stripping on door, had to stuff bathmat under it to keep cold air out. The reverse flow heater is in a bad place, doesn't really heat the room. Should be on wall above TV. Room called a Maisonette Suite, but was not a suite but a single room.
Review 62:Location in the CBD. Easy to get around. Really liked the outdoor seating on the veranda.
Review 63:Paid WiFi is pretty unacceptable nowadays. Entrance is through the wine-bar around the corner.
Review 64:Good location - the restaurant and winebar - fantastic. Service excellent.
Review 65:The bed comprised of an mdf frame and a very thin matress, was veryuncomfortable, and seemed a massive shame as a lot of effort had goneinto the presentation of the room. I mentioned this on the hotel'squestionaire, only to be quized by the owner on vacating, and made tofeel as if I was being unreasonable. I just believe that comfort shouldbe primary to appearance.
Review 66:The room was beautifully decorated, clean and had all the amenities weneeded for our stay.
Review 67:The bed was too firm, the pillow was like a rock, and the outside light was left on all night, shining through a window above the door. The room would be a squeeze for two people. The artwork on the wall featuring the names of New York districts was a very odd choice: why no local/Australian artwork?
Review 68:The room was very clean, cosy and well located - easy to reach from the train station and directly opposite the Bendigo Art Gallery.
Review 69:Only negative complaint is the hoons obviously come out after midnight on Saturday nights and make a lot of noise.
Review 70:A large stunning room. Close to restaurants and shops.
Review 71:For a first time user, the establishment was a little difficult to find.
Review 72:The central location. The proximity of the restaurant. The cleanliness and ambience of the room.
Review 73:There are narrow stairs so not suitable if you have mobility problems. Has its own off street parking if you need it.
Review 74:Located close to cultural centre of town with a bus stop near by. Couldn't find a supermarket but didn't ask for directions either.Walking distance to town centre
Review 75:- Wifi was there, not the right password - As it was a Sunday, there was no one to assist with that passed 4pm - Ants invaded the kitchen over night, so dont leave any food out over night - Car park was a little tight, but we were there at the Easter Festival, so that might be the reason. Suggestion: Staff send a email before guest arrive explaining they are not past 4pm on a Sunday (with some suggestions on where to get dinner) and correct the Wifi password in the information book in the room.
Review 76:The room and place was charming, the room is what you would expect for the price, and for what the building was used for long ago. I would highly recommend this place for a short stay. We were there on a Sunday, so it was a little quite, and we couldn't get any room service, but there are plenty of places around where you can eat. The grounds are beautiful, and room are clean and well maintained (small, but good). Tracey (staff) is very lovely and happy and so was the other staff that we met.
Review 77:Loved the location, the beautiful building and wine bank and the great food options including a wood fired pizza to eat sitting outside on the teak tables amongst roses! The rooms were well thought out and beautifully appointed including a kitchenette so I could make my own meals.
Review 78:Difficult access to floor with a baby - very old lift only sometimes worked. Very squeaky old floor board and could people above.
Review 79:Comfortable and in a lovely part of Bendigo - we stayed in Cahill apartment 4
Review 80:The first room had a dining area right outside our window where guests partied half the night then the restaurant area filled it in the afternoon. Hence we insisted on being moved to a quieter room which did not have internet connection!
Review 81:The location was great. The first room was very nice (until the noise started) but the apartment across the road was very quiet and well equipped
Review 82:Poor/inadequate Signage : * street access * internal access - Office * no " Office Hours " ( would have had problems late Sunday Night )
Review 83:Central location Interesting History
Review 84:Room was nothing like pictures on web, small, smelt musty, grubby stained carpet, faded old brown bedcover, poor security on external doors not good value for money and did not meet expectations.
Review 85:Great central location, lovely old architectural features in building
Review 86:Nothing
Review 87:I loved the way the rooms felt like bedrooms in a large house with the fireplace rather than hotel rooms. The room at the end had a big window which was great to have on a hot night with a lovely breeze rather than using the air conditioning. Kitchenette was just fine just missing some good coffee.
Review 88:After reading a review bagging Allawah, we were pleasantly surprised at the fantastic location, the good food and the great selection of wines. Will certainly return, .
Review 89:Location of reception was hard to find, not at the suite location but at a restaurant with a differnt name, and no notification of the separate addresses was sent. Staff at the restaurant when picking up keys lacked the level of service i would expect when I pay almost $300 a night for a room, and same during breakfast, not helpful or forthcoming with information, and completely forgetting to bring out a coffee that was ordered, not impressed at all and whilst we enjoye the level of style and comfort of the room due to this poor level of service we will not return
Review 90:The room was fantastic, everything we'd hoped it would be
Review 91:Check in was awkward, confirmation email didn't say to check in at a nearby wine shop so had to ring to find out what was going on (street address on website also incorrect). Given the key then told to go across the road, that's it. Had to work out Internet myself by going through the folders in the room, the advertised microwave was absent, and we were in an incredibly noisy room overlooking the main rd (avoid room 7!). Not a lot of thought evident in the room - one bedside lamp for 2 people, coat hangers which were only suitable for dresses or shirts, nowhere to hang the hand towel and no cupboard for ironing board etc, just stuck on a shelf near a bin with a glad bag liner and no lid. Dust coated ornaments too! Nescafé coffee only, which for $170 a night was just evidence of a desire to get you to buy coffee from the linked cafe, and get as much money from you with as little thought as possible. A disappointing experience.
Review 92:Close to the centre of Bendigo, can walk to restaurants and the art gallery etc. In a lovely old building.
Review 93:the bed was a bit hard which made sleeping difficult

Review 127:Spa didn't work properly, shower leaked
Review 128:Great location, comfy bed
