Reviews for O'Callaghan Eliott Hotel
Review 1:Service was a bit awkward, wifi could be more speedy, and generally with regards to facilities you would expect more from 4 star hotel
Review 2:Location and definitely parking - a rare thing in the narrow streets of Gibraltar
Review 3:Quite saddened by the view of the derelict buildings directly opposite the main entrance. Felt the car park charges a bit stiff.
Review 4:Much nicer when one got to see the interior of the Hotel. The staff were really good, helpful and pleasant to work with. Good restaurant service and pleasant menu.
Review 5:when more and more places provide wifi free, the cost here (eg £5 for two hours) was little short of extortionate. There was free wifi in the downstairs bar, but this wasn't publicised.
Review 6:Great location, wonderful rooftop restaurant with superb views and delicious evening meal
Review 7:the staff at the front desk were a little rude, when I arrived at 20:05, they said they were about to cancel my reservation even though i stated I would be arriving between 8 and 9
Review 8:the size of the room and the comfort
Review 9:Appalling bar service. Insufficient staff during busy times causing long delays being served. Being asked to vacate a preferred seating area in favour of other guest who were described as good regular customers when I challenged this with duty manager!!!. £15 per head for continental breakfast (rip off)
Review 10:Hotel room was very good and the room maids were very friendly and helpful and provided a first class service.
Review 11:The room was dated, you could hear some noise from the people in the corrider and the room above, no fridge in the room, no washcloths, moldy shower, inadequate toiletries. Non-smoking hotel but some guests were smoking on their balconies. Hotel overall was nice but it seemed more like a 3star than a 4star.
Review 12:Nice, central location off of Main Street, big rooms with proper twin beds, good wifi, safe in room, great lighting, polite and welcoming staff, cosy lounge area, nice terrace, rooftop pool, nice new year's eve dinner and friendly wait staff.
Review 13:Typical thing for England -shower head is fixed to the wall, with no adjustment. Thank no two water faucet in the sink. I thought that even on December can be warm water in the swimming pool))
Review 14:Very big room with good view. Very noisy bird at 3 o’clock)) looks like she was sitting on our balcony. Great view from the roof. Friendly and helpful staff. Don’t forget adopters for charging your devices. We didn’t think about it, but administrator helped us with a key)) Hotel are just in the center of the city – takes 40 minutes to walk from the border.
Review 15:The BATHROOM :-The sink and the bath stand too high, we are 5 ' 10'' tall people, I struggled to place my leg over the bath sill. The shower head is fixed to the wall, with no adjustment ! To wash at the sink was not easy. The light switch is at the entrance door instead of at the bathroom door. Otherwise the apartment was very good.
Review 16:The staff and waiters on the Roof Restaurant along with the food was excellent , the service and individual attention was very good. We would use this hotel again.
Review 17:The only real problem is the lack of soundproofing. We spent six days there and had various guests in the rooms next to us. Even the sound of a kettle being boiled next door was like it was being boiled in our room, so you can imagine what the tv and other noises were like.
Review 18:The hotel was nice and clean and the maid service was good. The bar staff were very polite.
Review 19:having to queue up for breakfast, One or two bar staff none too friendly, Case stand and armchair would be useful.
Review 20:Location,service, (except breakfast)..
Review 21:Hair in the shower cubicle and on the cleaned toilet. Hard bed.
Review 22:Position was great. Car Park had a space. Staff welcoming and helpful in the main. We enjoyed Gibraltar and the hotel was a good base to do this. We enjoyed the hotel and facilities overall just with a couple small niggles which we soon dealt with ourselves (apart from the firm bed, which of course is a personal preference).
Review 23:Inside the shower there are still some areas of black grouting - yuck!
Review 24:Great spacious bedroom with lovely bed. Noticed some good deep cleaning around the outside of shower doors in bathroom. Looking nice and clean now.
Review 25:expensive car parking £14 per day, total lottery for parking space. Should be included in hotel price.
Review 26:good location, rooms clean, and well appointed, pleasant helpful staff
Review 27:On check-in, I was told that breakfast wasn't included in my rate, but that it was available for 10 Pounds. When I checked out, the clerk tried to charge me 15 Pounds for the breakfast. He said that you need to "contract" for breakfast to get the 10 Pound rate. This was not made clear on check-in, and at my insistence, he only charged 10 Pounds per breakfast. Be sure to ask about that!
Review 28:I felt welcomed at the hotel on check-in, and was given a quiet, comfortable room. Everything about the stay was to my satisfaction -- until it came time to check out.
Review 29:On a whole we had a lovely time at the hotel. My only 2 complaints were, that before I came I asked for a mini fridge in the room due to dietary constrictions. I was never informed before i came that there was not going to be a fridge. Very disappointing. Also I emailed the Hotel about a few things before I came, and nobody bothered to email me back. Not impresses with that.
Review 30:The only gripe I have about the hotel is at the mirror in the room is too high to enable you to apply make up or dry your hair. Very minor but quite frustrating. Also allow plenty of time if travelling by taxi in Gibraltar as depending on airport arrivals this can take anything between five minutes and over an hour. This is because there is only one ring road in Gibraltar and a barrier which shuts part of the road when the plane lands, It therefore creates traffic chaos and traps taxis either in or out of the airport. So walk where possible and leave plenty of time to get to the airport.
Review 31:I absolutely love this hotel. I have now stay twice on business I cannot fault the facilities, location and service. The rooftop restaurant serves absolutely beautiful food and is well with visit for this and the view. The bar downstairs also seeves food which is less formal but still very good. All staff at the hotel from check-in to dinner, breakfast and bar service are so friendly and very professional. Request a sea view as it's breathtaking and don't forget to sample a glass of fizz or two on the roof overlooking the 360 panoramic view.
Review 32:It is a bit tired in decor terms. Needs a bit of a spruce up. For such a good location it could be better inside.
Review 33:Good location for Main Street where my meetings were. Staff very friendly.
Review 34:Overall enjoyed our stay just watch when then hold you credit debit card details. Make sure you get this back at check out as they forgot ours a day had to chase to get it back
Review 35:Bar area seemed to be just for business people and meetings. Not much seating. We ordered drink, waited ages, had to go to bar in the end, had been put on our bill and not delivered! They blamed shift change! NO apology! Also had to send drink back as glass dirty!
Review 36:Great location for shopping. Room very good. Reception lady very welcoming. Easy to get Taxi from border to and from hotel.
Review 37:One staff member was ignorant, another was pleasant but a bit clueless Not enough electricity sockets Bathroom was a little mouldy Toiletries were a bit useless Outdoor pool is not heated Breakfast is over-priced
Review 38:Central location Comfortable bed Big bedroom & bathroom
Review 39:All good apart from cold coffee in bar & wrong order as well as cold breakfast in Room
Review 40:Mostly good & staff helpful although couldn't recommend restaurants in area.
Review 41:The only comment I can make is that WiFi should be free in the hotel rooms in this day and age!
Review 42:We always stay at the Elliot when we visit Gibraltar and find it very good. On one of our trips we were upgraded to a penthouse as a gesture. We really appreciated that! We will continue to us The Elliot hotel
Review 43:It looks a little tired. Worn carpets in the corridor and chipped tiles in the bathroom. The live music on Thursday night kept me awake.
Review 44:Location. Staff. Great views from the restaurant and solarium
Review 45:Long commute from La Linea parking but worth doing it that way. Didn't see much parking around the hotel, so glad we didn't drive in.
Review 46:Handy to all attractions in Gibralter. A little bit if England on the tip of Spain. Cool!
Review 47:If I had to say something bad, which is only a small point, it would be the view from the rooms on the lower floors facing the rock (well car park) with no sign of the rock unless you go higher. Still space is a premium in Gib and there's plenty to see once out of the hotel
Review 48:Just back from a weekend at the O'Callaghan Elliot. If you haven't been then i recommend this hotel. Short transfer from the airport (about £10 taxi). Friendly staff, short walk to Main Street. The room was comfortable and clean, perhaps a little dated, but more than good enough. Great breakfast with great views from the restaurant on the top floor.
Review 49:Just one night we had a noisy neighbour who had their TV volume turned too high late at night. But they turned it down when we asked them to.
Review 50:The friendly and relaxed attitude of your staff
Review 51:Their wi fi was not suitable for remote business log on and therefore I had to keep going to local Café to do E Mail business
Review 52:Very convenient for shops
Review 53:Staff in terrace restaurant were not helpful, when I mentioned we would like salt / pepper etc with our meal the waitress was curt and took a delayed time fetching it. Salad was gritty and we were offered no appology. The shower in the room needed some work e.g the silicon was old and looked dirty. No fridge in the room either. That didn't feel like a 4 star experience to me
Review 54:Hotel location and friendly reception staff
Review 55:Felt badly understaffed. Difficult to get attention/service when needed.
Review 56:Big rooms, comfortable bed, great location right in the middle of Gibraltar.
Review 57:Unfortunately Gibraltar suffered a 6 hour power cut our first morning at the hotel power going off at 5am!
Review 58:Good location in the centre of Gibraltar. the staff were all very friendly and welcoming.
Review 59:The first night we decided to eat in the bar. We ordered drinks and hadto chase these up as they never arrived. We ordered food (panni's),after 25 minutes these had not arrived, but people who arrived after ushad received their meals We chased up our order again, it had not beenput through,we were given crisps/olives whilst we waited but we justwanted what we ordered. After a further 20 minutes we chased up ourmeals again. In total we waited 50 minutes before they finally arrived.Needless to say the lady on duty did not charge us for our meals, but Idid not expect such poor service at a well established hotel like this
Review 60:An excellent location, clean and tidy rooms. Breakfast was excellent andfor us, included in the price
Review 61:Nothing
Review 62:Everything, very welcome,, I stayed with my mum who is in her 80.s and is gibraltarian, We had a fantastic stay, Only problem is we had to leave
Review 63:Main bar ran out of white wine on several occasions - Reception response that 'this is Gibraltar' didn't fill me with a good feeling of caring much - other guest said they had same problem earlier in the week Power cut on final morning meant I had to carry cases downstairs but then staff would not use mobile phone to call a taxi as normal phones were down - was shown map of nearest taxi rank but decided to use my own mobile - it's little things that make a difference
Review 64:Rooftop Bistro food and service with marvellous views Caroline and Maria were very good Location is good for most facilities
Review 65:The wifi was very weak in our room on the 2nd floor. It was difficult to use it unless the door was open to the corridor outside and you were in or next to the corridor. Not very practical. The hotel was expensive.
Review 66:Great location, nice and big room. Nicely decorated. Lovely view from the terrace on the top floor.
Review 67:Staff in outside restaurant/bar didnt have a clue what they were doing re service. Parking very difficult when told there would be no problem. Room tatty. No fridge.
Review 68:Location
Review 69:Bar staff. We sat for an hour waiting for our drinks that we could clearly see sat on the end of the bar. We were refused service at the bar and told to sit down and wait. We were also overcharged for our stay which took 3 weeks to rectify.
Review 70:Cleaning staff excellent, reception staff friendly. Good comfortable beds, large rooms.
Review 71:Bar ran out of wine twice in 3 days.Breakfast restaurant had no available tables 3 days running. No minibar in room.
Review 72:Comfortable, clean room.Maid service very good.
Review 73:Breakfast wasn't included in the cost. The breakfast room was quite small & became very busy. Not many bath towels provided. Had to ask for more.
Review 74:Location was perfect. Staff very helpful, friendly & attentive. Clean, spacious, comfortable room.
Review 75:Did not realise that the room would not be made up unless you hung card on outside of the door. Most places make the room up daily. Was not a major problem, maybe this could be added to the information booklet.
Review 76:Staff very helpful, giving directions et, always smiling. This helps to create a friendly welcome Good sized room.
Review 77:Nothing!
Review 78:The location is great with easy access to the pedestrian zone for food and shopping. My boys also loved the pool, though smaller than I expected after the pictures. We also took advantage of the pool bar.
Review 79:1. Wireless internet slow with weak, intermittent signal 2. Breakfast price exhorbitant 3. No courtesy bus to airport - this is a 4-star right?
Review 80:Central location
Review 81:1 of the lifts wasnt working and took a while to fix. There were never enough staff at reception. Telephone call to make booking. Checking in and out all too much time wasted. The hotel is in desperate need of refurbishment which I believe is due to be starting soon.
Review 82:The waiters in the top floor restaurant are excellent. Fantastic service, the 2 Moroccan waiters have such good memories it feels like you are at home with friends. A credit to the hotel. food was excellent too.
Review 83:Balcony too small to fit a chair. Pool also very small. Bar service very patchy.
Review 84:Location - right in the heart of the city - but still quiet and relaxing.
Review 85:TV reception was poor and limited.
Review 86:Ideal location for getting to customer and also for exploring the town. Quiet part of the town. Good quality food served at breakfast
Review 87:A bit dated. Doesn't feel 4 star. No minibar in room - not even water. Staff at checkout not so friendly.
Review 88:Location ok. Available when all others were booked.
Review 89:Decor could do with an update, the furniture in the room did have some water marks and the grouting in the shower could do with replacing
Review 90:Very good location, pleasant staff on reception, good facilities
Review 91:Only 1 person in reception, long queues. Waiting time.
Review 92:Location was great as it is all walking distance away from attractions and main street for lunch/dinner.
Review 93:Great location to the shopping and easy to walk to all locations. Room large with etra large bed and good view.Pool small but not overcrowded and sun terrace very pleasant.
Review 94:The hotel décor is quite old & tired The staff can be quite unhelpful with queries & requests The rooms aren't well sound-proofed - noise comes into the room from the corridor easily
Review 95:Great location - convenient for most things in Gibraltar
Review 96:The Hotel could do with a bit of a 'clean up' and a few more staff 'on-hand' when you need them. Lack of Towels at the swimming pool !!! - Had to keep asking for them to be brought up
Review 97:The location of the hotel is great to see everything ( on-foot ) in Gibraltar. The evening food in the restaurant was excellent - but Breakfast left a bit to be desired.
Review 98:I think you need to update the photos of pool & roof top entrance ( as nothing to do with what is actually there) , as the pool was dated & not special & the roof top restaurant smelt damp. Furniture ie chairs in rooms were scruffy they need varnishing & tiles to showers needed grouting
Review 99:The location was great, the entrance to the hotel & staff on reception were fabulous, that we spoke with. The hair dresser shop, staff were great
Review 100:Female Eastern Euproean reception staff were so unhelpful - rude almost. So much so that had to complain to very helpful, efficient male colleague. Cultural differences aside - she needed some customer service tips or be in a different line of work!
Review 101:No complaints, we enjoyed the whole stay
Review 102:After an earlier visit where I complained about poor staff on reception and terribly ignorant ground floor bar staff, this visit, we enjoyed professional staff in both areas. It made the world of difference. Truly impressive after our last stay. Bravo!!!!
Review 103:Air con could not be used as it was so noisy. The general feeling in the bar/outside terrace was one of chaos despite a management meeting happening in the middle of the terrace. The reception staff were slow and not at all skilled. Management appeared to have little general knowledge on food and alarmingly I would conclude they had never left the island
Review 104:Location excellent, staff friendly.
Review 105:The hotel isn't really a 4 *, it's really more of a 3*- mainly due to being a little out of date. it's a shame as the staff try hard but to be honest that's a reoccurring theme for Gibralter though. The history of the island is unquestionable but you just get the feeling it needs to dust itself off and move into this century. It's not really the best display of Britishness by today's standards. The people are great I think as a whole it just needs some investment and that includes the hotel, e.g. Evening menu is something from the 80's and provided on a clipboard! Windows in restaurant are filthy and staff a little clumsy . There was no champagne chilled so they tried to serve it warm!
Review 106:Staff are lovely Wifi is good Location especially good Rooftop pool an added bonus
Review 107:Had Breakfast one morning very Expensive. better value at copacabana 1 min from hotel.
Review 108:Excellent central location to town, Quiet, Rooms Cleaned every day, Rooftop Pool, Views over Gib, Free WiFi.
Review 109:There weren't any adapters for electronics at the time we stayed, housekeeping forgot to leave towels on our second day, the wifi could be better, the waiter got my order wrong at the rooftop bistro but was kind enough to let us pay what I had ordered.
Review 110:The coffee and tea provided everyday in our room was nice, the pool was the perfect temperature and the view from the roof was amazing, the bar supervisor on the 29th of July when we had dinner was wonderful he made sure everything was perfect, the hotel staff were very welcoming and provided every information needed and were just a call away, they let me keep my car in the parking lot after we checked out so we could still enjoy our last day.
Review 111:The breakfast was very poor and very expensive; the pool is sloped and dangerous with a major slime ring around the entire pool. Numbers of staff did not seem adequate or were not available. It was our anniversary and my wife's birthday but nothing was provided out of the ordinary.
Review 112:The outside of the hotel in terms of neighbouring buildings were not in keeping with the nature and condition of the hotel, although this did not spoil our stay.
Review 113:Friendly staff and excellent location.
Review 114:Waiter service at breakfast with the hot food would have been better. I think greater choice of hot food would have improved the experience too.
Review 115:Location is excellent, good value and pleasant public areas.
Review 116:No bad experience, only slight complaint was WiFi was a bit slow (but free) and the TV reception a bit poor but didn't detract from the rest of the trip as we weren't there to watch TV!
Review 117:The hotel was clean and welcoming whilst the staff were attentive without being intrusive. The room was clean and tidy and the location of the hotel was just what we needed for our short weekend break. We will return back to this hotel.
Review 118:Had a problem with the mattress (broken spring cut my husband's leg) but the hotel were fantastic in resolving so can only commend them for handling so professionally.
Review 119:The staff, location and facilities.
Review 120:Despite requesting a gluten free breakfast AND confirming the requirement, failed to deliver on our last morning. Breakfast fruit salad fizzy two days running despite complaint. No fridge in room (!). In need of a refresh.
Review 121:The view (7th floor sea view), comfortable bed, good location. Quiet, working aircon.
Review 122:Buffet breakfast. In a hotel of your standard breakfast should beordered and delivered to the table. The melee of a buffet breakfast doesnot go down well with me as it is, imho, below par of the serviceoffered on Main Street.
Review 123:Being in the center of town - very handy for going back for a break anddropping off the shopping.
Review 124:The hotel is grubby and in need of a refurbishment. The breakfast is poor, lukewarm/ cold and very pricey. The hotel bar tables are dirty and sticky. Parking is advertised at £12 a night and it's £14 when you get there. The staff lack customer skills. The reception lady on arrival was very abrupt, almost rude. Value for money - poor.
Review 125:The location only as its right in the centre of town.
Review 126:Your charges for Wi Fi are quite unreasonable
Review 127:The chocolates in the tub on arrival in room were a nice touch and excellent. What make are they as I would wish to purchase some for my wife?
Review 128:Charged for breakfast that we didn't have but issue resolved quickly and efficiently. Parking available but not cheap.
Review 129:Very convenient for visiting the Rock, other sights and the town. Free Wi-Fi in all hotel locations.
Review 130:I asked for 1 extra small towel. Reception staff member made a big fuss about it and had to have an arguement with him in order to get the towel brought to the room. I mean, are they short of towels? Paid roughly £1000 for 7 night stay. I think this is overpriced considering the overall standard of the hotel.
Review 131:Very good central location Fantastic breakfast Clean and comfortable
Review 132:Restaurant area oo small for size of hotel. Breakfast very cramped. Would have liked a bath in the en suite.
Review 133:Bed very comfortable. Hotel nice and clean
Review 134:Only one issue on the last day (new arrivals) and the breakfast room was just too full and not enough staff to keep the tables clear etc
Review 135:No pressure anywhere, pleasing staff, very clean surroundings and not forgetting the great breakfast - giving plenty of choice.
Review 136:We had asked for an upper floor and were only given a room on the 3rd floor, which had a horrible view over air conditioning units and unsightly buildings. The balcony was tiny with no furniture. We paid £387 for 3 nights, breakfast would have been another £60, which we thought expensive. We found it much cheaper to eat and drink out.
Review 137:The location is good as it is about a 15 minute walk to the cable car for access to The Rock and also nearby Botanical Gardens. It is close to the Main Street shopping area and about 10 minutes to Casemates Square with it's bars and restaurants. The room was comfortable and clean with a nice bathroom. There were tea and coffee making facilities, which was a bonus.
Review 138:Price of extras, including breakfast! At £128 per night, I think £10 per person is expensive. However, go to Jury's for the best option!
Review 139:Location. It is easy to get to the High Street.
Review 140:£18 for wifi ! You must be joking. Lets down an otherwise excellent stay
Review 141:The dinner was excellent and tdh menu £25 good value. Best salmon I'd had in ages
Review 142:Paper-thin walls in bedroom Tired looking - needs a big refurbishment Breakfast was chaotic on our first morning, too many guests, too few staff - staff overwhelmed buy guests leading to very poor service
Review 143:The hotel did not live up to the pictures on the web site. It looks tired and dated. The service left much to be desired. My credit card was over charged for the stay instead of just being validated. The reception staff could not find the paper work. It took me nearly an hour to check out. Luckily I did it the night before our 7:00am departure of I could have missed my plane. The was no service in the pool area.
Review 144:The hotel was in in good central location with easy access to most of the places you would want to visit. The bed was very comfortable. The hotel was quite, (very quite).
