Reviews for The Portmeirion Hotel & Castell Deudraeth

Review 1:Our bathroom was fine but felt like it was due a refurbishment

Review 2:The staff were friendly and attentive: you feel really looked after Lovely food at both restaurants. Fairly priced we felt. Fantastic location - felt a very special place to stay. The hotel has real character.

Review 3:The only available restaurant the night we arrived was the Michelin star one at the hotel (we were informed when we checked in that the Castle Brasserie was closed). Had we known in advance we would have arranged to stop to eat on the way as we did not feel like a full 3 course meal after our 6 hour drive. The chef was kind enough to cook us something from the room service menu but it made us feel awkward to ask

Review 4:Beautiful location, great staff, comfortable accommodation

Review 5:We waited for almost an hour at our table to be served at supper and felt the restaurant was a bit pretentious. None of the staff seemed to be that happy....

Review 6:The view from the bedroom window was pretty amazing and we had a good walk around the estate and beach. Breakfast was also very good - freshly squeezed orange juice!

Review 7:parking was tight and a little awkward, should be improved.

Review 8:meet and greet professional and warm, organised, made to feel very special. Food was excellent. would love to return

Review 9:We stayed in the Castle not the hotel. Our room was most comfortable - almost like a suite, with complimentary bottled water and sherry, which was renewed every day. As it was winter we were most grateful for the coal fire. The staff were very pleasant and couldn't do enough to help.

Review 10:The service in the icecream shop!!!

Review 11:We liked the service, the place, the atmosphere both in the village and the hotel, the Welshness, the views and walks through the gardens, the peace.

Review 12:Portmerion is one of my favourite places in the world, this is the first time staying in the village and we were not disappointed. It exceeded our expectations and we will definitely stay again soon

Review 13:Fine dining in hotel restaurant. We booked table then could not find anything on the menu to our liking so we asked to be moved up to the castle to eat.

Review 14:Location and view from room

Review 15:I booked the hotel as a 50th Birthday surprise for my boyfriend. The accommodation was outstanding together with the views of the village and estuary.

Review 16:Beautiful spacious room with every facility you could want. Despite horrible weather, the location and views were amazing. Very friendly, welcoming and helpful staff

Review 17:Sadly, all good things have to come to an end and we had to leave but knowing we would certainly be returning in the warmer weather.

Review 18:The location, the ambience, the food and service were second to none. Having the choice of 2 venues for dinner was a bonus and dinner at Castell Daedraeth on the second night was quite a contrast to the hotel but just as enjoyable. We stayed in Upper Villa Winch which was sheer luxury.

Review 19:We visited out of season and it was very quiet with not all facilities open. However, a food and drink festival was due to start after we left and large crowds were expected.

Review 20:A unique venue in a beautiful location. The village itself is modelled on an Italian town so a visit is an experience in itself.

Review 21:Portmeirion is a very special place, lovely to wander around but staying there overnight was a real treat. The room was beautifully clean, massive comfortable bed, good facilities. Food at the hotel was excellent and the staff were unfailingly polite and helpful. All in all a wonderful experience even though the weather was awful. I would thoroughly recommend staying here

Review 22:t

Review 23:Our stay at the Portmeirion Hotel was perfect. Our room was spotless and the view over the estuary was magical, We had a wonderful a la carte evening meal which was cooked to perfection and served with a smile, After dinner we walked through the unique village, As it was October it was dark but the night lights made it even more magical, After a comfortable night we had Eggs Benedict for breakfast. The staff were so friendly and efficient. I would definitely stay again and advice other people to experience it too.

Review 24:Coming from the north, you have to traverse quite a few narrow roads, so be prepared.

Review 25:In the middle of nowhere you are suddenly transported into a faux Italian village. Quite fascinating. And a terrific gourmet restaurant to boot!

Review 26:This was everything that we could want from a hotel. The room was warm, spacious and very comfortable. The staff were all friendly and attentive without being overbearing. There was a problem with some poor wine that was served with dinner but this was corrected promptly and courteously so I regard this as positive and not a negative

Review 27:The weather.....we must return in the sunshine and do it all again !!!

Review 28:A truly unique hotel in an amazing setting with stunning views. Excellent food and wine, breakfast was superb...a shame to leave. Near to Porthmadog and the steam train ride through Snowdonia was fantastic.

Review 29:We only stayed for one night, we will be staying again but will definitely go for at least 2 nights.

Review 30:What an amazing magical location that seems like it's a world away from anywhere in the UK! The room was so spacious and comfortable with every attention to detail paid you feel like the hotel want you to feel special! We stayed in a village room, we sat out in one of the many seated areas in the evening with a couple of beers and made the most of the atmosphere. Breakfast was absolutely amazing, afterwards we went for a walk through the forest and even though it was raining it was great finding little walkways and maybe a few off the beaten track. What a fantastic place.

Review 31:We loved the whole ambience of the hotel. The food was excellent and the room had a lovely view of the bay . Portmeirion Village is very pretty and an interesting place to walk, Our walk along the bay was gorgeous with stunning views of the lovely welsh mountains .

Review 32:The location is superb. The facilities are amazing. The staff are really welcoming. Being able to explore the grounds surrounding the Hotel in the daytime is great. Dinner at Castell Deudraeth was excellent. A truly special experience.

Review 33:Would have liked dinner B and B option Wasn't sure if the water and sherry were complimentary. The card implied you were expected to pay for everything consumed even tea and coffee We did take the slippers as we had worn them!!! Would have been happier if that issue was made clearer Small point in a great stay

Review 34:Friendly staff. Quiet ambience. Good food and facilities. Shuttle service superb

Review 35:Beautiful location, short walk to Portmerion Village, large, bright room, large comfortable bed, roaring fire in bar area, good food but limited menu and staff very helpful. In short, we loved everything!

Review 36:Nothing!

Review 37:Beautiful room, fabulous staff and service. We stayed in Bridge House and couldn't fault it. We'll definitely be returning in the future.

Review 38:Breakfast service can seem a little chaotic at times, otherwise, very little to find fault with. First visit and will be back again with family.

Review 39:Food in the hotel was outstanding and the evening service very slick and attentive. The grounds were immaculate and staff polite and efficient. Fabulous location.

Review 40:Misleading Sales Particulars. We booked "A cottage suite -Somewhere in the Village. It wasn't a Cottage. It was a first floor two bedroom apartment accessed by an external staircase an inconvenient distance from the Hotel. At the price I do not expect to have to travel by Bus to obtain my meals in the main Hotel.

Review 41:The entire place is just wonderful

Review 42:Lovely experience. Staff attentive and helpful. Room lovely and view amazing. Lovely to wander the village when the day trippers have left. Food fantastic. Really special stay.

Review 43:There was a noisy group in the bistro, so we were glad we had booked into the restaurant at the Portmeirion Hotel

Review 44:The position of the Castell. The room was spacious and the facilities excellent.

Review 45:Over priced - but does include breakfast and access to the site, which is chargeable for day visitors. We experienced terrible breakfast service; One and a quarter hours is too long.

Review 46:Excellent accommodation in Grade II listed building. Beautiful site and some good short walks.

Review 47:Beds very hard. Food nice but very expensive. Service pleasant but a bit disorganised at breakfast.

Review 48:Great location and wonderful view from room. Pleasant staff. A unique experience staying in the Portmeirion houses.

Review 49:No where to get nibbles drinks etc, it needs a small newsagent or convenience store

Review 50:Loved the rooms, stayed in upper pilot. The staff were really friendly especially cat the castle

Review 51:Everything, a bit expensive but well worth staying onsite as you can walk through the village before and after the the day trippers and it feels like the place belongs to you. As a prisoner fan it was good to see where it was filmed. Village not a big as I thought it would be, but easy to get round. Would hope to return in the near future

Review 52:The only disappoint was that the amenities in the village didn't stay open into the evening.

Review 53:The location was brilliant and we could access Portmerion village at any time free of charge. Having asked the question, what time does the free shuttle bus stop, the answer was that it runs as late as you want. Our room was spacious and we thought the complimentary sherry in the room a nice touch.

Review 54:Only down note was the standard of food in the restaurants , not up to Wales' finest

Review 55:Lovely accommodation, beautiful views and loved the Prisoner theme!

Review 56:Booked afternoon tea at the hotel over a month ago. We arrived to find they weren't expecting us. Told us to sit in a corner then brought out sandwiches with meat when we had told them no meat when we booked. No other substitutes. We expected to be sat in the nice seating area and the whole thing seemed rushed! Very disappointing.

Review 57:Everyone was very friendly and attentative. The village is very beautiful and quaint.

Review 58:Minor point - only place for breakfast was the hotel.

Review 59:Beautiful, quirky buildings and surroundings.Superb, delicious food - lunch and dinner, at the Hotel Port Meirion. Truly outstanding.

Review 60:Nothing.

Review 61:Really excellent comfortable room In a beautiful location. The staff were really helpful and a delight to talk with. The view of the bay is fantastic and really good when viewed from the restaurant after a good day out.

Review 62:Room was very small, and I was asked if I needed the room serviced! For the money we paid, of course that should be normal. The bed was not made properly, had just been covered over, sheets not smoothed or tucked in. A cheap B & B in Derbyshire was more tidy. Breakfast on the first morning, was slow, three times we had to ask for tea and toast, and no jams etc on the table.

Review 63:Location is great, and views from hotel are lovely.

Review 64:Fabulous location, staff were very friendly and helpful. Hotel felt very cared for and clean. Nothing was too much trouble and my son, aged 9, felt very welcome, safe and relaxed.

Review 65:We loved this hotel. It was like stepping back in time with all the comfort and courtesy that you used to get. The staff were wonderful and very helpful. The rooms were charming with comfortable beds. Dinner was outstanding.

Review 66:I found online booking very confusing and ended up being booked into the Castle Hotel and not the Main Hotel in the Village. Luckily there were some free rooms at the Main Hotel in the Village and were were able to be moved. So make sure you double check what you are booking. Further complicated by the fact that they call Rooms Houses in the Main Hotel, so you are not sure if you are in a Village House or not.

Review 67:The The Portmeirion Hotel is in the Village, this means you can wonder around early in the morning and in the evening without all the tourists. Really relaxed atmosphere in the hotel and lots of comfy chairs and sofas. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent. High quality produce, repaired and presented amazingly.

Review 68:Absolutely fantastic place! excellent room, excellent and friendly service, superb breakfast. To cover it all, what a treat it is to stay within such a landmark place! I cannot wait when we go there again!

Review 69:We were presently surprised not only by the standard and facilities of the hotel, but how genuinely friendly and helpful all the staff were.Would recommend the hotel to anyone.

Review 70:Bad acoustics between above flat. Could hear them walking about the flat, talking, light switches in their bathroom etc Not very good for price and poor by modern standards

Review 71:Really good location and view of sea and wildlife

Review 72:Cleanliness of restaurant was not good as well as service. For that price it should be better. Room and location are just perfect!! A must see in Wales.

Review 73:Room and views

Review 74:Not really a bad experience the bed we felt wasn't very comfortable but the room was extremely nice, good size bathroom and lots of nice touches. We felt the restaurant could have been slightly cheaper for the average family

Review 75:The stay was lovely a really nice and unusual place to explore lovely settings and stunning views. The staff were very helpful and friendly & made us feel very welcome.

Review 76:Food abit too pricy on menu, so quite an expensive stay, also wine left in rooms at £16.95 to purchase ,so if you open ,you get charged, i think a complimentary bottle would be more in order.A place to stay if you want a real treat and dont mind splashing out .

Review 77:lovely location, lovely room ,quiet and tranquil, very classy place to stay.Breakfast good and included in price.

Review 78:WiFi a little slow

Review 79:Everything, wonderful unique place, when Portmeirion closes to the public it is a very special treat to be allowed full access as a resident. Sharing a bottle of fizz & a romantic picnic in the grounds & virtually having the place to yourselves is magical. Prosecco in Portmeirion another tick off the bucket list.

Review 80:The room was perfect for us, first floor with triple aspect views, light and comfortable, quiet. Staff absolutely fantastic and happy to chat. Lady in painting shop deserves special mention, sharing her own copy of OS map. Restaurant food and staff were fabulous.

Review 81:The staff were quite loud in a morning with the delivery's and cleaning up, from early on, which spoiled it a little. The evening menu in both restaurants where very similar, which we found disappointing and not quite up to what we expected.

Review 82:The relaxed environment, and the quiet of an evening, the accommodation was excellent, and the village is outstanding.

Review 83:rooms comfortable but no air conditioning and we went during the recent heat wave.

Review 84:excellent breakfast, interesting history, nice walks, lovely location right on the estuary and overlooking the welsh hills. Good restaurants.

Review 85:Loved it all!

Review 86:Fabulous place, staff were so friendly and helpful, food delicious, accommodation excellent, but if you want information .....you won't get it!!! Loved every minute, will definitely return. Be seeing you!

Review 87:The service at breakfast was very disappointing. We had to ask someone to please take our order and waited 25 minutes for our food. Others who came in after us were served before us. There was no variety of cheese and cold meats and when finished they were not replaced.

Review 88:We loved portmeirion. It is enchanting, colourful and interesting. The architecture is fascinating. Food at the castle was good, well presented and the service excellent.

Review 89:The Upper Pilot suite was absolutely fantastic, with panoramic view of the estuary. Gorgeous rooms, furnished with impeccable taste and every luxury provided. The gentleman who helped me with luggage was informative and pleasant.

Review 90:We were charged in £180 in advance despite the hotel saying they would not take payment until arrival. When we got to the hotel they had no record of this money being taken out. It eventually got sorted but we still have had no explanation or apology. The service in the restaurant was very poor. Took 20 minutes to get a jug of tap water which we were then charged £3.50. The restaurant is very expensive with little choice for vegetarians. The 1 vegi option was not to my taste. Considering how expensive the food is I would have expected a far better service. We were served by about 6 different waiters at dinner all kept forgetting things we'd asked for. Breakfast service was poor too. Came down at 930am to find there was 1 pastry left. Took them 20 minutes to refill the continental breakfast. Finally I think the hotel description needs to explain the accommodation options better. As some rooms are in the hotel, some in the village. Given the choice I would have chosen a different option but It was not clear what I was booking from the description. The directions to get to the hotel also need vast improvement.

Review 91:Amazing location Lovely afternoon tea Great to stay in the village when the day visitors are gone

Review 92:Wi fi was pretty average. Unable to log on many times, however the staff were willing to assist whenever we needed help. Probably a result of the location.

Review 93:We had the Cliff House room and this was fanTastic. A great view over the estuary, very quiet with a very comfortable bed. Excellent room products. Great hotel restaurant (a memorable dinner) not to mention the unique architecture of Portmeirion itself.

Review 94:not a long enough stay!

Review 95:great, attentive staff. Beautiful suite in the centre of the village, everything you could wish was catered for, great touches to make your stay special. Amazing food in the restaraunt.

Review 96:It rained. Breakfast ends at 10.00 and we prefer a more leisurely start to the day.

Review 97:This was a first visit and we found it delightful, especially in the evening when the day trippers had left. We only stayed one night but will be back to explore a little more.

Review 98:Wifi flaky or non-existent in bar/restaurant which matters if you're a solo traveller. Food very good, bordering on award-winning though briefly let down but a basic error with my lamb loin - cooked almost to well done when I asked for medium rare. Electric shower is disappointing for a hotel in this price point. One expects something more "gushing"

Review 99:Morning run through the grounds.

Review 100:Celebration afternoon tea not worth £23.50 , had to return some sandwich as very dry , cakes uninspiring , No toiletries in room on arrival , TV over bed didn't work , or bedside light, even though reception knew of problem beforehand , Royal Dolphin Suite ,

Review 101:Excellent friendly staff , Room smart and clean , Unique location , lovely ice cream shop , view of estuary ,

Review 102:Nothing at all.

Review 103:The warm welcome, great accommodation in Village Suite, amazing views, fantastic food. All the staff were friendly and professional. With the great weather this special birthday treat was a real taste of paradise.

Review 104:No salt and pepper provided with room service meals. (I ate several because of a short illness.) That's really inexcusable Some is dropping the ball. I think they need to think a little more carefully about the food combinations. An anchovy, olives and greens salad is not going to appeal to everyone (and it didn't to me).

Review 105:Really great location in the middle of the village

Review 106:It was all good, no complaints

Review 107:Loved the 3 nights in a de-luxe suite, superb views and rooms excellent. Ate at the hotel and also at the Castell Deudrath, food and service superb. Very interesting village and gardens, all beautifully maintained.

Review 108:nothing. Everything was just perfect! Keep up the good work as it is very much appreciated.

Review 109:All of the staff were friendly and accommodating. The castle even cooked a dish especially for my husband and I which was unexpected but marvellous customer service. We had a small leak appear in our room and the staff were prompt to rectify the problem by offering us alternative accommodation with the transfer of our baggage by the porters. The cleaners did an exceptionally good job. We left a personal thank you note and chocolates to them for paying attention to detail. We could not fault anything as everything we needed or wanted was catered for with a smile. I would recommend Portmerion to anyone and I have done so already since our return. We will be back. Thank you to all the staff for making our break away extra special.

Review 110:A lovely warm welcome at the Castell Deudraeth. The food was great and very friendly staff. We stayed in the village rooms and I cannot fault the room. The location is a must see.

Review 111:Breakfast was rather poor

Review 112:The staff were extremely helpful, friendly and efficient. The bedrooms large and very well appointed. The restaurant food was excellent.

Review 113:Restaurant staff did not realise that the client pays their salary, Having to ask twice for the same thing, being told " Wait I can't do 2 things at once.5 star service I don't think so

Review 114:Where it is

Review 115:The cost of a glass of wine £8.50 scandalous. We could have had a bottle for £16 in our room

Review 116:I booked this accomodation as a surprise for my partners birthday and we were not disappointed. From the welcome at the main gate to the receptionist when we booked out all the staff were so accomodating. We stayed in Cliff House and the views were amazing we would definately return.

Review 117:The accomodation - Bridge House 4 was cosy and well appointed with a beautiful view. The evening meal was to die for and the staff were very friendly and professional.

Review 118:Tables in the dining room are somewhat small, they also don't seem to be cleaned thoroughly, we had occasions when the plates we were using stuck to the table.

Review 119:Excellent room, clean, comfortable and spacious. Friendly staff.

Review 120:Nothing- all great!

Review 121:The village is very special and the staff are all lovely. The food is as good as anywhere I've ever eaten- white chocolate creme brûlée to die for!!

Review 122:Very friendly staff, made to feel welcome. The food at the and service at the Castell Deudraeth was first rate and didn't break the bank, infact no more expensive than your local pub!

Review 123:leaving!

Review 124:The view from our window, nice and approachable staff for whom nothing was too much trouble, including the room service staff and the porters.

Review 125:Service in the bar was slow and at times absent. 2 half dead orchids in the bar and no other flowers. our room had a stunning view but was rather small. No shaving mirror.

Review 126:The location is beautiful. Food is good but a bit self-conscious. The atmosphere, friendliness and food were excellent at Drondaugh Castle .

Review 127:Wi-fi is frustratingly slow but a minor issue in the grand scale of our stay

Review 128:Excellent meals in both hotels, superb in the Portmerion Hotel. Staff were very accommodating and friendly.

Review 129:Very difficult to fault anything really.

Review 130:I was impressed with the friendly and professional totally bilingual service experienced by all the staff at Castell Deudraeth as well as the at the cafes and shops.
