Reviews for Sandwick Bay Guest House

Review 1:The hotel was clean and cosy, including my room. Jim, the host, was very hospitable and friendly. And the value you get for the money you pay is pretty darn great. Breakfast was a mammoth meal too.

Review 2:Very friendly and accommodating owner, very clean and comfortable house/room. Very good breakfast. Shared facilities was something I did not look forward to, but it turned out to be less of a downside than I expected. Also, the bathroom was very clean. A short walk (10 minutes or so) from the center of Stornoway.

Review 3:we both enjoyed our stay, jim was very helpfull ran us to bus station to get bus to take us a tour of the island, nothing was any trouble to him, when we were leaving he ran us to the ferry cant ask for any better than that. breakfast was really very good to

Review 4:15 min walk from citycentre

Review 5:owner took me in his car on the day I left, to the busstation, so I didn't need to walk with my luggage. quiet environement beautifull island

Review 6:Sharing a bathroom meant waiting a couple of times and having to plan my shower late night/very early to not clash with others. Upstairs floor creaky, shower cubicle needs redecorating and has no shelf for soap/shampoo.

Review 7:Nice welcome, nice breakfast, quiet, no fuss. Got three very good night's sleep! Brand new WiFi is very fast indeed.

Review 8:If i have to say something it Would be to have an en suite rather than shared bathroom but liked the bathroom... a highchair for breakfast would have been good

Review 9:Very helpful and attentive to us during our stay, also with information about going out and about during our stay

Review 10:No common place for people to sit and relax; rooms too small to do that. No place to put your soap in the shower.

Review 11:The owner was friendly and polite. Nice view of the sea from the front.

Review 12:An ensuite would have been nice but the bathroom was always spotless and very close by. It was a bit of a trek for my Dad to walk to town as he's not the fittest 77 year old but it would have been a fine stroll for me on my own. We had a car though and taxis were cheap enough when I fancied a beer.

Review 13:We were welcomed and hosted very well. Nothing was too much trouble. The place had everything we needed and we had a lovely stay there. A packed breakfast for our early morning start on departure was a lovely touch and gratefully munched in the queue for the ferry! The views out to sea at the front were lovely to wake up to.

Review 14:the location was good. Quiet and with a lovely view over part of the harbour. Breakfast was excellent. The owner was always helpful in responding to requests. And he had written out suggested driving tours which I found very useful.

Review 15:Only downside was lack of en-suite, but there was a lovely clean shower room very close to my bedroom.

Review 16:The breakfast was excellent and the lovely owner gave me a lift to my job interview as it was raining. Lovely clean comfortable room.

Review 17:My room was upstairs and I did explain that I have osteoarthritis but was not given a more suitable room. I also, believed that I had paid for en suite but that isn't what I got and I had to relieve myself in the sink on a few occasions. Too far from the town centre 10 minutes if you are fit perhaps but not disabled. Some tourist information was wrong the museum has closed down as its being relocated. It was too expensive as I use another guest house which is £100 cheaper and actually is en suite.

Review 18:I was picked up and dropped at the airport. Hospitality was good, and the food was good. Nice, animals too, four cats and one dog. As a woman on my own I felt safe.

Review 19:...we were a bit put off initially by the state of the place externally, which appeared to be something of a building site: a palette of cement (?) bags in the garage/carport and a variety of old cars in several states of repair, but perhaps not on the property's land..?

Review 20:Jim was talkative and very friendly and allowed us to make use of his 42" TV to watch Andy Murray win Queen's this year, which was much appreciated. However,

Review 21:The shared bathroom was horrible, couldn't face the shower and tried to avoid going in there at all. The whole place/grounds needed tidying up. There were cats everywhere which is fine if you like cats, I am not keen!

Review 22:The host was pleasant, they had gluten free bread available, breakfast was OK, room was not en-suite as expected and rather basic.

Review 23:In the long summer nights/very early summer mornings, the blinds need to be more opaque. And the chairs being moved upstairs made quite a noise in the rooms below--perhaps some felt under each chair leg would help?

Review 24:The owners were very laid back and accommodating regarding our comings and goings; breakfasts were ideal.

Review 25:Very quiet location right on the beach at the edge of Stornoway town. Its quite a walk into the centre of town. Huge breakfast with a wide choice all served quickly and efficiently. Very helpful owner. Wi-fi OK but intermittent - owner did online check-in for me and printed boarding cards.

Review 26:Located in a beautiful location a little walk from the city center. I especially appreciated the friendly welcome with lots of help and tips for what to do during the stay.

Review 27:Friendly welcome & helpful, had an excellent sleep in the single room, memory foam mattress & cushions. I had the full cooked breakfast which had a large selection to choose from. Portions were generous and of good quality! (Stornoway black pudding) yum

Review 28:Nothing.

Review 29:Ease of everything. As I was late arriving, my booking card and breakfast request sheet were sitting in the foyer for me. Room was great, and property is well maintained. When working away from home, this is all that is required. Efficient & comfortable. Great breakfast, and lovely hosts. Can't fault in any way.

Review 30:Amazing views and easy access to town 10 min walk. Staff welcoming and breakfast more the ample. A definite return visit in the future and would recommend to anyone visiting to use when on the island.

Review 31:The wifi didn't quite reach to our room. I think maybe it was becase of the fire door. It worded everywhere else just fine.

Review 32:Jim, the owner, was great and the location was good.

Review 33:The host seemed agitated about a variety of issues (not relating to us) and we felt it set a negative tone. In fairness we only stayed the one night but were anxious to move on.

Review 34:The accommodation was okay; the breakfast facility and food was very good; service excellent. We were upgraded to an ensuite room which was fine.

Review 35:There was nothing we didn't like. Jim, had no control over the weather!!

Review 36:It was convenient. It was well appointed. The breakfasts were great. The owner, Jim, was more than helpful and pleasant, offering 'taxi' rides into the Town. Jim was a wealth of local knowledge and advice. It is somewhere I would be happy to recommend to others and revisit if the opportunity arises.

Review 37:Little extra touches that made all the difference, e.g. the offer of a flask of tea/coffee when travelling to remote spots on the islands; the willingness to pick up & deposit guests at ferry or airport; the availability of a portable breakfast on day of my very early departure & good location & beautiful views.

Review 38:The three external CCTV cameras, video entry phone and camera covering the dining room made the B&B feel very unwelcoming and made me think that due to its location at the edge of town it provides short term emergency accommodation to the homeless. I stayed for one night and the other people I me were all tourists. Didn't sleep well as the blind and curtain still let a lot of early morning sunlight through. Thicker or blackout curtains would be a welcolm improvement.

Review 39:Clean room and comfortable bed.

Review 40:No en-suite except one room. The bathroom was really clean but it also contained the toilet so if someone was showering there was a wait. With late Ferries, guests can arrive right through the night affecting sleep. That is not a fault of the owners - just life!

Review 41:Cleanliness, ease of parking on site or on road outside. Only a few minutes drive from the Ferry terminal.

Review 42:We had shared bathroom/toilet. It would have been better to separate the toilet from shower facility as there was only one bathroom on the first floor for the guests and it was a little tricky knowing when to use the facilities. Also with so many guests and such a small bedrom it would have been nice to have a guest lounge room available

Review 43:Breakfast was good. Jim was able to provide us with a take away breakfast for an early ferry departure which was a nice touch

Review 44:The whole stay was very comfortable. The Owner could not do enough for us. He was friendly and very informative. I would recommend this Guest House.

Review 45:It was a 10-15 minute walk to town (which may be an issue for travellers without a car).

Review 46:The room was comfortable and facilities all worked as advertised. The breakfast was excellent. The bay right outside the guest house is a lovely place on a sunny day. The owners were polite and helpful, yet also know how to keep out guests way.

Review 47:The noise between one room and another was a constant disturbance. Despite there being a sink in the room, there was no facility to hang a towel or to put toiletries. A hair drier was available, however, it was not possible to plug it in close enough to be able to use the mirror. The plumbing was so noisy that you would not wish to use the sink in consideration of the people next door. Money was taken from credit card before our arrival, which was impolite. The breakfast menu suggested that there was fruit available, however, during our stay there was none available for anyone. The owner did not make any enquiry about whether we enjoyed our stay, and would, therefore, be oblivious to our concerns.

Review 48:The location and view over the bay. The shared bathroom was quite nice.

Review 49:Radiator switched on full blast in the bathroom IN AUGUST!!!! What's the point of having a bath if by the time you've towelled off you are so sweaty you are back where you started???

Review 50:Very friendly landlord, lovely seaside location, quiet and close to the town

Review 51:Nothing! X

Review 52:They went out of their way to help me - getting up at 5.30am to make me breakfast before my marathon, then giving me a lift in to town to catch bus and lift to/from airport! X

Review 53:Nothing

Review 54:I spent four nights at this establishment and was well pleased with my choice. As the most insightful review states, the breakfasts were excellent and the proprietor was friendly and obliging, to the extent of serving me a full breakfast at 6.45 am one morning. There was attention to little detail in that the teasmaid was always topped up and even the biscuits were on the generous side for a single occupancy. The location by the coast is also nice.

Review 55:My bathroom was across the hall. I knew this before booking, though.

Review 56:Fantastic view of Sandwick Bay from the private balcony of my room. Nice furniture, large room. Friendly and helpful staff.

Review 57:There was nothing to dislike.

Review 58:Very clean and comfortable. Excellent breakfast. The owner could not have been more friendly or helpful. Plenty of parking space, a short walk into the town centre.I would highly recommend a stay here.

Review 59:beautiful room perfect space for me on my own, stunning views of the bay, very close to the centre of town about 10 mins walk owners were friendly and helpful. wI'll def stay there the next time I'm in stornoway

Review 60:Had to share a bathroom, but knew that before I went, it was large with both bath and shower and always kept clean.

Review 61:the location is very conveint, views over the bay lovely, could also watch the ships coming in.Breakfast lovely, good porridge!

Review 62:That I could stay just for one night

Review 63:Lacation at beach, nice owners, clean and well equiped rooms.

Review 64:difficulty of opening doors

Review 67:Friendly and helpfully Excellent location and value for money.

Review 68:creaky bed

Review 69:Friendliness of the owner Location. view over sea front and proximity to ferry, given early ferry time. Parking facility.

Review 70:Close to town centre amenities. Comfortable rooms. Excellent breakfast.

Review 81:Jim and Inga were very nice people. Always helpful with information on places to go. Breakfast was very good.

Review 82:The location was great, the rooms so clean and comfortable. Friendly owners. We had a great stay.

Review 83:The security system at the front door. You don't get a key, but have a number to punch in.

Review 84:Catering for special diets.

Review 85:I liked everything about the place.

Review 86:A very friendly welcolm. Good breakfast Comforable room Lovely view from the dinning room.

Review 87:Great, superb views out the front. The owners are very welcoming and happy to help and accommodate.

Review 91:Shared bathroom

Review 92:Very nice owners helpful courteous

Review 93:nice people and quick wifi service.

Review 94:The owners of this guest house went out of their way to provide us with excellent service.

Review 95:I was disappointed my single room didn't have an en-suite.

Review 96:Free to come and go as one wished. Grand view .

Review 97:Well looked after, nothing was a problem. Food was good, Room was just right Ideally situated for getting around Lewis Wi-Fi available - free

Review 98:SHARED BATHROOM

Review 99:THE OWNERS VERY PLEASANT AND VERY HELPFULL.BREAKFAST EXCELLENT.VERY CLOSE TO TOWN CENTRE

Review 100:Too far from bus depot and centre of town if your on foot.

Review 101:View of the bay was nice.

Review 102:The owner was helpful and charming.

Review 103:the kindest of his owner and the confort of the room.

Review 104:Facilities slightly tired

Review 105:View Friendly and helpful staff

Review 106:Very friendly owners

Review 107:A wee bit pricey for the room

Review 108:Very service oriented; was willing to credit me for some of charges when our party shrank from the booked 4 persons to 3.

Review 109:Extreme friendliness and helpfulness of hotel host. He allowed me to entertain my long lost friends in the lounge and even gave us a bottle of wine!

Review 110:The web site is not only misleading but downright untruthful. The web site describes a large double en-suite with sea views. We booked this for 4 nights as the centrepiece of our holiday at £105 per night. On arrival we were taken to a medium size back room with views of the back yard and scrap yard beyond! We were told the room described was the proprietor’s room and not available for guests! Also the web site describes the attraction of a beautiful lounge for guests to relax in. This room is shut for guests – it is for the private use of the proprietor! The bedroom itself was extremely basic. No mirror in bedroom, one meagre picture. Pillows like bricks. Tea and coffee was NOT Fairtrade as advertised. The bathroom had no towel rail except very small radiator capable of taking a small hand towel, very small basin with no shelf nearby for toiletries. Shower cubicle was ok, but nowhere to put toiletries except on floor. The website also advertised a non-existent bath. There was no window and the extractor fan did not work. The bathroom door had not been painted since fitting. Wi-Fi did not work in room, only in hall – and probably in lounge if it were available! Every expense had been spared. We only stayed because we could not find alternative accommodation.

Review 111:Quiet location at end of cul de sac.

Review 112:creaky floors upstairs, not every room has en-suite, so just check your booking so you know what to expect. We had ensuite, but our travelling companion had to share a bathroom.

Review 113:very helpful staff, even provided take-away breakfast for our 6am departure.

Review 114:Had en suite room but no sea view as it was on back of house. As it was the "King" room this was a pity.

Review 115:Quiet location, easy to get to town centre. Very helpful owners. Good breakfasts. Comfortable and high standard of cleanliness.

Review 116:I was very surprised when I went to pay (shortly after arrival, as we were leaving early the next morning) to find the landlord had already debited my card earlier in the day, before our arrival, for both our room and our friends' room. He did offer a refund and we sorted it out, but this left a sour taste in the mouth. The wifi did not reach our bedroom.

Review 117:It was very convenient for the early ferry. The bathroom, although not en-suite, was very clean and had a lovely long bath to stretch out in.

Review 118:For a single room that's not en-suite also no where to place clothes I,e chair, tablet too expensive. No sheets to climb into at night only duvet cover. Cold tap not running in room. Breakfast very poor.

Review 119:View of the bay?
