Reviews for Aberdunant Hall Country Hotel

Review 1:Although on Booking.com it says children stay and eat for free, we had to pay for the breakfasts for 2 days. A spoiler at the end. Im not a person who argues .... but may be its a question for booking.com

Review 2:Fntastic location amidst a forest surrounded by trees (and lots of static caravans !) but amazing place to just have a stroll along and enjoy the nature. Definitely coming back here in the summer.

Review 3:Stayed at this hotel before and keep going back. Lovely place and staff. Great bar and restaurant. Always go for the four poster room! It's the best! Nice location, just outside of Porthmadog.

Review 4:Housekeeping was poor...the toilet in the room was left uncleaned for 2 days. Cobwebs on the lamp shades in the superior room

Review 5:Location was brilliant...

Review 6:I Couldn`t open the window (Room 8), it wasn`t open since the middle of the 20th century based on the amount of the spider colonies ON the window. It was a bit cold in the room next to the window. I`ve got cold, the heating was okay in the other other areas of the room. Maybe I am super sensitive but I expected more for £115.

Review 7:Quality of food, smiles from the staff, bathroom, shower with its water pressure. Like a personal, hot, water massage. We could see the car from the window.

Review 8:not happy the internet was down all of our stay we had to drive to barmouth to get wifi to send some documents !! we chose his hotel for the fact it internet in every room, when asked about this we were told 'we couldnt get it either' this would put us off next time,,,,,

Review 9:This lovely place is in a woodland setting which is also a caravan park - this is well laid out amongst the trees so it didn't seem to matter. The room was comfortable and clean with everything I could need. The restaurant is lovely and has a good atmosphere, staff were great.

Review 10:My young son and I stayed at half term. I found the staff very accommodating for a 4 year old, friendly and helpful, to the point of opening up for breakfast slightly early and giving him control of the TV for his Peppa Pig fix (no other guests were up, so not being inflicted on them !) I also found the 'aftercare' from the hotel excellent in returning to me items I had carelessly left behind. I should also say the food was way beyond what I expected from the hotel. Some of it was proper restaurant quality and the Chef clearly knows what he's doing.

Review 11:Wornt very keen that the hotel was surrounded by a caravan park other than that no problems very very pleased

Review 12:It was very friendly and the staff were very helpful food was very good had a very pleasant stay .

Review 13:If there was any criticism it would be that the room was a little small & compact. But perfectly acceptable

Review 14:Lovely friendly staff. Great location for what we wanted to do.

Review 15:The bed was really uncomfortable and the room was noisy until around 2am in the morning

Review 16:The hotel was lovely and clean. The room we stayed in was very clean and the bathroom was also immaculate

Review 17:I can't fault the location, service or facilities.

Review 18:Everything, the location, the staff, the room, the menu, food quality. The hotel was perfect and very good value. We will definitely be coming back again. Thanks for a great stay.

Review 19:Very dirty, mould in the bathroom loose bathroom shelf, cob webs on ceiling marks on the bed, iron mark on carpet months worth of dust behind bed where you use plug. No manger available to deal with complaint on site. Not the first to complain according to their staff!!!! Very disappointed area manger didn't even have balls to ring me back.

Review 20:Time to go home

Review 21:The lighting in the bedroom was too dim for us even though it could be adjusted as high as possible. Disappointed when the lighting in the dining room was turned down. This must be a modern tendency to have dimmer lights.

Review 22:Friendliness of the staff

Review 23:Would of liked a shelf in the bathroom to place your wash bag but it was a minor issue to what was a wonderful stay.

Review 24:Lovely location.Smart contemporary hotel and restaurant with amazing food.

Review 25:The room was noisy at times during the late evening - from outside of our window.mechanics of some sort.

Review 26:The food / menu in Restaurant. It was excellent and reasonably priced. The location although weather wasn't very good during our stay.

Review 27:Poor lighting in room - a little too "romantic" :) A lamp-stand uplighter and a desk lamp would vastly improve this.

Review 28:Friendly staff Excellent room Generous bathroom Quiet Comfortable bed Good breakfast - both buffet and cooked

Review 29:Room was quite dark with all the lights on. When booking we did not realise it was in the middle of a holiday park.

Review 30:The building was lovely, the food was excellent with a good choice.

Review 31:The bedroom and un-suite could have been cleaned more thoroughly.

Review 32:Very friendly staff Excellent location for our requiments Stunning setting Excellent food.

Review 33:In the middle/lower part of Snowdonia Park was a good location, the hotel had great food/menu and nice beers, in which the ale was kept very nicely. Room was decent and tidy.

Review 34:We thought we were staying in a hotel with a large garden, but this is also a chalet holiday park, not that it matters, but in the evenings the hotel lacks atmosphere as residents eat and drink in their chalets, it,s rather empty. When we arrived the staff were busy with serving food, we did not have the welcome we had experienced elsewhere.

Review 35:This is in the middle of nowhere which suited us, lovely grounds and surrounded by mountains, nicely decorated room which was very quite, the evening meal was fresh and well presented, we had a comfy night.

Review 36:I loved the decor. So tastefully done and great feel of space downstairs. In the evening the place looked lovely - particularly liked the carved coffee tables. The food was the best I've had in North Wales to date. Excellent lamb dish from specials menu and breakfast perfectly cooked. Was a delight. Lovely young woman from Blaenau hosting . I stayed on Monday 28 September. Definately would recommend on current form.

Review 37:Only thing is I booked our evening meal twice and it was not written down although the food was that good we are at restaurant both nights

Review 38:Great location & fantastic food! Read room 3 was noisy but we didn't find that the case! Most comfortable bed ever we slept very well! Claire the manageress was very accommodating on helping us book a trip & looked after us

Review 39:It was a bit confusing driving driving into the holiday park, clearer on the way out.

Review 40:This is a delightful hotel. The single room was lovely, so different to the usual cubby hole in most places.

Review 41:The hotel is in the middle of a holiday park full of relocatable buildings - ugliness in a beautiful setting - pity.

Review 42:This a beautiful old building that has been restored and re-worked really well as a hotel and restaurant. Our room was comfortable and well appointed with a view into the garden. The restaurant was excellent. The man on the desk also served in the bar and was a top class employee. The approach to the hotel, up a heavily-wooded glen, was like a magical mystery tour with a prize at the end.

Review 43:The bed was a little short for my husband who is 6ft! Small children were running through the bar and restaurant - probably their parent's fault, but the staff did not speak to the parents about it.

Review 44:Beautiful historic building in a gorgeous spot. Property well maintained. Great customer service from staff.

Review 45:The staff went out of their way to help with directions getting taxis and even giving us a drink whilst waiting to go home. Nothing was too much trouble. I will definitely come back again.

Review 46:We received a very poor reception. We were left waiting with a young baby and many bags as staff members just looked at us and continued what they were doing without any acknowledgment of our arrival. Then an extremely rude waitress claimed all the rooms had been taken and implied we had therefore been double booked without any apology. This unnecessarily worried us and was not actually the case.

Review 47:Location Food Room

Review 48:Windows did not open in the bedroom and room was excessively hot. Asked manageress to try and solve the problem but was not dealt with.

Review 49:Excellent food Lovely surroundings

Review 50:Finding the exact access to the hotel driveway. Once we found it, it was easy to get to the hotel, it is up the hill.

Review 51:After a hard day driving we were welcomed and felt pampered. Beth was very understanding. Our room was wonderful.

Review 52:No lift available for disabled guests, really not acceptable when rooms are on second floor

Review 53:Hotel, dinner was superb, comfortable, clean, well maintained, friendly staff and beautiful setting

Review 54:Asked for a twin room as travelling with son, there was a mix up as got a double room, but they were so kind to sort it out and gave us another room with no extra cost. So helpful and nice staff would go again, the food was very good, breakfast was like a hooper homemade, so much better than the I've had in other hotels. I have nothing wrong to say about this Hotel as it was very good. It caters for everyone

Review 55:Friendly staff who spoke Welsh, very comfortable bed, wonderful double shower. Cannot fault the food in any way, we were joined by a our young family for one evening meal and they ate every crumb! It was really busy but the staff coped well.

Review 56:Room with 18 month old was above bar/main entrance. Was extremely loud at 12-2am in the morning with revellers and it was only a Monday night. Breakfast needed some music to break the awkward silence. Otherwise everything else excellent.

Review 57:Nearly everything was spot on!

Review 58:At breakfast time each morning, the coffee cups were dirty with stains inside of them. The first mornings breakfast, the bacon was hard and tables not set properly.Noisey children running around the bar area until late. Noise from childrens play area when trying to sleep .

Review 59:Bedrooms spaciouse and comfortable, although one of the double showers did not work

Review 60:None

Review 61:It was the first time I had stayed there and I was very impressed with the hotel as a whole. The hotel was clean and tidy and all decor in good shape. The evening meal was excellent and the service second to none. The Full English in the morning was one of the best I've had for a long time - made to order, not from a buffet. Will definitely stay again when next visiting on business

Review 62:Nothing!!

Review 63:We couldn't find any faults here best value for money ever! Location, food, service and room were all excellent no corners have been cut. Will definitely go back

Review 64:I had a two night stay, Thurs and Fri. Arriving late on the Thurs I phoned ahead to advise hotel. Arranging some sandwiches for me was gratefully appreciated.

Review 65:On suit was dirty especially behind door. One shower didn't work, cups and mugs were stained, plates not clean. Static caravans nose to tail, a wonderful location sadly spoiled .

Review 66:Waitress was brill bar was great

Review 67:We suffered from a constant buzzing in the room we were allocated room 3 until staff turned off the cooler situated directly under our window to be fair this would have gone off on the timer at 11pm until 9am but in between these times the buzzing really gets to you

Review 68:The location the staff the food

Review 69:Poor plumbing in our room No 1 also , no fruit available at breakfast time, when asking staff we were told none available

Review 70:Very friendly staff nice pleasant quiet location

Review 71:Not applicable

Review 72:Rooms were immaculate; attention to detail was perfect; all food was locally sourced so the hotel are flying the flag for neighbour businesses - a really nice touch . Loved every moment of the stay . Would highly recommend to all ages- amazing !!

Review 73:There was nothing I didn't like, as I said in the previous part , can't wait to go again

Review 74:Everything, it was a last minute thing to go here,,,,,, but I will go back asap, it was really a great place all round

Review 75:Nothing

Review 76:Wonderful location, great room (room 1) very comfortable four post bed, lovely bathroom with double sink and double shower. Great food, lovely bar and the staff were great especially, unfortunately we don't know her name but I think she was the manageress, she went massively over and above and just made the trip for us, especially as was our first trip with our 8 month old daughter so we were a little nervous of being away. Amazing, we will definitely be back.

Review 77:The hotel surpassed all expectations as we had booked a last minute visit. The room was beautifully furnished with a luxurious bathroom and spotlessly clean. A good meal in the Bistro added to an enjoyable stay.

Review 78:They need some customer service training with their restaurant and bar staff. They were really indifferent to the guests

Review 79:Loved the location, tucked out of the way of the road in a superb natural setting

Review 80:None.

Review 81:A lovely and wonderful stay for 1 night in this beautiful hotel. Room was perfect and the food was excellent. Me and my partner cannot wait to stay longer this year again. Thank you.

Review 82:Wifi poor and difficult to get phone signal (tho sometimes that's no bad thing!)

Review 83:Quiet, personal hotel. Really lovely, friendly staff. Food was absolutely gorgeous

Review 84:This hotel is one of the best in north wales and this is due mainly to the staff they are friendly, helpful and very professional The rooms are spacious and the en-suite are beautiful.

Review 85:There's nothing not to like

Review 86:Needed a hotel for one night as we were in wales for two days moving around a bit enjoying the sun with out 3 year old.... It looked nice on the pictures but wow , totally made our mini break ....... Gorgeous Victorian house with beautiful gardens, outdoor terrace , children's treehouse , great food, rooms ( only 9) surrounded by posh caravans that look like log cabins but was so quiet and spacious ...... Would definitely recommend for a little piece of relaxing heaven, wanted to stay longer

Review 87:So pretty - the hotel has lovely gardens- with huge rhododendrons. Was not expecting so many static caravans but they are staggered up the mountain within the trees which softens the effect. Our family room was spacious- with a very nice en suite and the breakfasts were delicious!

Review 88:Very little to complain about, other than the room being very compact.

Review 89:The location of this hotel is superb, even though you are in the middle of a caravan park you do not feel that as the woodland location is peaceful and relaxing. The staff are very friendly and the food is very good, overall a very enjoyable stay.

Review 90:As with most old buildings, we had to carry our luggage up the stairs.

Review 91:Room was comfortable and the toilet was quite big. Food at the restaurant was good which made things easier for us as there weren't many alternative options nearby.

Review 92:The only downside was the family room only had a shower and no bath. There would be room to have a bath installed so unsure why they chosenot to. This meant we were unable to give the baby a bath as she was tooscared of the shower. We tried to bath her in the sink but the hot tapwas scalding.

Review 93:The hotel is a beautiful building set in a caravan park on a hillside.Location is good as easy drive to Porthmadog. The staff were excellent. They were very friendly and welcoming. They took the time to come andtalk to us and our small children. The restaurant was fab. The steak wasamazing. Kids menu was good and food was completely devoured. They alsoincluded an allergens list in the menu which was great for us with amilk intolerance. The family room we stayed in was plenty big enough andthe beds very comfortable. A very pleasant and enjoyable stay.

Review 94:I thought the bed mattress was too soft (room 1). and the chairs very uncomfortable...in room.

Review 95:The food was excellent..very tasty and always hot.Breakfast also very good but no container on table to put rubbish in.Menu was sometimes covered in sauce.

Review 96:We waited for an hour in the restaurant for our meal to be served. If we wanted any bread in the meantime we had to pay for it. No tissues in the room

Review 97:The food on the whole was good, but it would have been nice to have had more fruit offered at breakfast Bathroom was good.

Review 98:No instructions on setting up wifi but fine when we asked the staff how to do it.

Review 99:Great staff, comfy rooms, excellent evening meal (not gourmet, but superb quality). Hotel is in a peaceful setting in the woods. It is amongst a static caravan park but this doesn't affect the experience. The family room had a big bunk bed, perfect for our two boys. Our bed was large and comfortable.

Review 100:Let down badly by low quality meals, limited menu and casual waitstaff Automatic led room lights came on at 4am and woke us

Review 101:Lovely setting and facilities, refurbished rooms

Review 102:Room small, younge restaurant staff needed more training and knowledge but friendly enough

Review 103:Location, good vegetarian restaurant food and good breakfast

Review 104:noisy bar at night ,intrusive when eating in restaurant. Staff have to divide time between bar service and restaurant which can result in delay in serving diners.

Review 105:Modern refurbishment to good standard good food. location Cleanliness throughout.

Review 106:Needed a gluten free diet. Plenty of choice but it would have been nice if the menu had indicated which meals were GF rather me having to ask staff who then had to check with the kitchen.

Review 107:Lovely 4 poster room, really spacious and comfy. Loved the double aspect windows and boutique bathroom. Delicious food.

Review 108:I asked a question about the cellar fan at the rear of the hotel as it was very noisy, I was told it would stop at 1030. It came on throughout the night waking me up a number of times.

Review 109:Staff and quality of food excellent, nice surroundings, very relaxing.

Review 110:Surroundings. Didn't realise the main business was a mobile holiday site. Persistent dog barking when dark. Single occupancy in small double bedroom. Room VERY hot and window very precarious to open. This room is not big enough for two people. Better kept for single occupancy with single bed. Certainly no room for case. Would not want to use room for more than one night.

Review 111:Nice staff. Clean room. Good breakfast

Review 112:The fried breakfast wasn't that nice

Review 113:Room was fantastic, really good size & the bed was really comfortable. The staff were also really nice & happy to help.

Review 114:The room was very comfortable and spacious. Quiet considering it is in the middle of a holiday park. Wonderful dawn chorus waking us up in the morning! Staffs were very helpful and efficient . Breakfast was tasty with enough options for everyone. This place is really good value for money and I would certainly consider coming back here.

Review 115:Not really able to walk into town, bit too far so maybe a bit isolated. Other than that nothing bad to say

Review 116:Food was very nice Staff quite friendly Nice lounge/bar area for relaxing in

Review 117:fantastic plc the staff very friendly pleasant and helpful, rooms and onsuite good size and bar restaurant facilities plus couldn't fault breakfast lovely will stay again in future

Review 118:No mention / indication before arriving of the scores of static caravans, obscuring the countryside around the hotel ( i.e. the picture of the hotel - is just of the hotel) Expect it is teaming with folks in the summer, so not very peaceful -but there is a very nice tree-lined raod up to the hotel and the caravans are tidy, although very closely packed in. There is no mention of this in the title of the hotel. The tourist leaflet rack contained several out of date leaflets (railway dates etc for 2014)...

Review 119:Hotel accomodation was good. The restaurant was very good and also the breakfast.

Review 120:My partner and I visited Aberdunant for a short getaway break. We wanted to explore the surroundings and walk Snowdon. The room was excellent, incredibly clean and had everything we needed includinb a comfy bed. The food was fantastic (they do a great breakfast!) and everyone was very friendly. Excellent location too! As we were about to leave I unfortunately had an accident resulting in being taken to hospital. Being strangers in the middle of Snowdonia National park, the hotel were great. They arranged for us to be picked up from the hospital (an hour away), held a room for us to stay in for another night and couldn't do enough for us. Before the accident happened I would have still wrote an excellent review, but seeing their care and compassion really made us feel welcome and thankful they were able to help us. We will definately be returning here! Thank you.

Review 121:It may be less restful in the summer as it is situated in a mobile home country holiday park. The homes are unoccupied in the winter so it was very peaceful for our visit. The room was not soundproof and suffered from the noise of external door banging (reported to hotel staff and, I suspect, sorted after we left).

Review 122:The hotel staff worked very hard to make our stay enjoyable. The food was excellent - thanks chef - and the beer was OK, too! We went for Valentine's day and to see Portmeirion, where the hotel was fully booked. It turned out to be a lucky break as it was a lovely weekend and saved much money compared to staying in Portmeirion itself. Also well placed for the Ffestinniog railway, which was a delight. Thank you Aberdunant and Snowdonia.

Review 123:Staff were friendly but not always around and didn't appear to have or give amazing knowledge of the area. As most people come to the hotel to walk up snowdon, easily accessible information about the walk and routes would have been beneficial. There wasn't really much on offer about the local area apart from a few leaflets at the entrance.

Review 124:The hotel was really nice, lovely, clean room. Nice little touches for couples

Review 125:whirlpool bath, noisy and pointless, the shower was excellent though.

Review 126:the room was lovely clean, quality throughout, location of hotel good,, dining area and bar comfortable, breakfast the best , staff and management great.

Review 127:It's not really a bad point but most of the staff were all quite young.

Review 128:The staff were very helpful and friendly. The hotel was very quiet when we stayed and hardly heard other guests. As the hotel is set in a remote location there was no noise from cars etc. Food was absolutely fantastic, both the breakfast and dinner, good value for money too.

Review 129:Some minor problems with wifi connection but quickly sorted by staff.

Review 130:Spent a night at the hotel on Valentine's day. Breakfast was excellent. Service was very nice.

Review 131:Heating was on high, very hot everywhere and while eating

Review 132:Nice rooms, comfortable and clean, stayed on Valentines day got complimentary chocolate hearts and restaurant had roses on the tables lovely touch would stay again!

Review 133:Had real trouble with getting hot water in the shower. Once actually got a luke warm temp it quickly dropped back cold again. This was the only real problem

Review 134:The evening meal and breakfast were just amazing, they were beautifully cooked and amazing quality. The bed was so comfy and the room was clean and beautifully decorated.

The Fine Print

Please note that some sat-nav systems direct drivers beyond the entrance leading to the hotel. There are signs along the entrance opening. The hotel is situated on the road between Prenteg & Beddgelert. The entrance is on the left if travelling from Prenteg, and on the right if travelling from Beddgelert.
