Reviews for Tudor Lodge
Review 1:Place was clean and hosts friendly, were well prepared and very knowledgeable about local area, facilities and attractions - were very keen to share and didn't seem to grasp that we weren't new to the area or tourists - were there to measure the property we were in the process of buying. Very friendly and helpful - well intentioned and would be good place for first-timers.
Review 2:The property was conveniently very near the centre of town. We travelled by train, the station was a 5 minute walk away. Carl made us most welcome. He informed us of the best places to eat and had an excellent knowledge of the local area. We stayed in the cottage which was useful as it had a fridge and a hob. There was a good choice for breakfast to start the day. Ample car parking space. The owners couldn't have been more helpful. An excellent place to stay. We will be back.
Review 3:We had a quiet room which gave us a good night's sleep. The continental breakfast had a great choice of food and was ideal for our needs. This was our second stay at Tudor Lodge.
Review 4:The staff were friendly, welcoming, extremely helpful and always available to answer any queries and point us in the right direction. They went out of their way to cater for a Gluten free diet. The location next to the main High Street was excellent.
Review 5:Breakfast was the only let down as there was not a large variety. Also in the parking area there is a very large rock on the entrance that is hard to miss!
Review 6:Great, polite staff... Very cosy and comfy bed with everything you need. Amazing
Review 7:Nobody on site until 1600hrs! The girl was basically house sitting for the owners. No notice that there would be no food available at all, even in the pub/restaurant. Rooms were of only fair standard, aging quality. No heat in the room only in the bathroom.
Review 8:The price
Review 9:Unfortunately noise travels through walls and ceilings so if other guests are noisy, you hear it all. Internet is intermittent. Worst part was the uncomfortable bed and pillows in the room that we were in.
Review 10:Nice hosts. Good location in town. Really good cold breakfast.
Review 11:Spotlessly clean, delicious breakfast and really helpful staff ( directed us via phone when we called to say we were lost, advised us on best places to visit and eat)
Review 12:Perfect hosts. Accommodation perfectly positioned within the town and with easy access to the principle Welsh holiday attractions.A wide, high quality breakfast range and a homely feel to the whole visitor experience
Review 13:Nothing bad at all. If I was to make a suggestion to be helpful - I wasn't sure if there was a lounge area for guests to sit in but didn't want to start mooching round to look. Cold breakfast was lovely and fresh but the addition of an insulated urn of porridge would welcome during winter months.
Review 14:Absolutely spotless very well run establishment, immaculate
Review 15:The room was smaller than the average size of guest accommodation we've stayed in recently, but perfectly adequate for one night. Also minimal toiletries - only a liquid soap dispenser, no shampoo, no facecloths etc.which, for the price, we might have expected.
Review 16:The woman who greeted us explained in very helpful detail all the hostelries and eating places in the district, marking them on a map, also other places of interest to tourists - this put us fully in the picture about what to do/where to go. Also the continental breakfast couldn't be faulted - a superb range of every conceivable option of fruit, nuts, pulses, cereals, croissants, yogurts, beverages - delicious!
Review 17:Good size clean room with spacious bathroom. Nice and quiet not disturbed by noise from other guests or traffic. Lots of brochures and verbal information on the area given by the owner.
Review 18:Anja was very friendly, helpful and imformative on our arrival. Telling us of places to eat, giving us a generous discount voucher of 20% off the Ffestiniog railway. The rooms were spacious and well appointed. The breakfast while continental style was plentiful with lots of choice and nicely presented. Both Anja and Carl were interested to help with advice on places to visit, tips on local transport etc.
Review 19:The lodge is quirky, but warm and comfortable and the owner very welcoming, knowledgeable about the local area and helpful. The location within a minutes walk of the town centre was great.
Review 20:Greeted by Carl (manager ) very helpful and informative , Room was very nice with everything that you would need . breakfast , continental was first class with lots of choices. Would definitely recommend to others .
Review 21:We really enjoyed our stay. Karl and Anja did everything possible to make our room comfortable and our breakfast perfect. They made sure we knew all about the shopping, restaurants and activities available in Porthmadog. Would definitely stay here again.
Review 22:The room was a bit small for any extended visit. Of course that might not apply to other rooms so don't anyone be put off by this observation.
Review 23:We had a brief but nice stopover.
Review 24:Superb place to stay. Ideally situated for a North Wales holiday, extremely friendly, knowledgeable about the area, clean and a very wide choice for the continental breakfast. Anja and Carl made the stay an unforgettable experience and I have warned them I will be back !!
Review 25:Nothing great stay - should have stayed longer!!
Review 26:Staff friendly and very helpful as we had very little time to catch a bus into Carnarvon to catch the Welsh Highland train back to Porthmadog and it worked like a dream!
Review 27:The ensuite was very clean, but on the small side.
Review 28:Friendly and helpful owner and staff. The location was good, with access to cafes and restaurants in the evening.
Review 29:We didn't stay long enough. That's more on us than them, though.
Review 30:The staff was incredibly welcoming and personable. The room was comfortable and homey. Cannot describe how beautiful North Wales is.
Review 31:Owners provided much detailed information about the local area and recommended an excellent local restaurant for dinner. They went the extra mile to make our stay enjoyable.
Review 32:It was very welcoming from the moment we stepped foot in there. The room was nice and clean and the beds were super comfortable. The large selection of breakfast available was a pleasant surprise and started the day off nicely.
Review 33:Only problem was tricky WiFi connection, but did not spoil the holiday.
Review 34:Good location close to centre of town and plenty of places to eat nearby. Excellent breakfast buffet choices and good advice on local area.
Review 35:Only problem we found was that lorries start going past early in the morning and causing some noise and I'm usually an early riser
Review 36:Nice, conveniently situated hotel, very easy to find, room was excellent with good facilities. Manager happily advises the local amenities and good places to eat etc.
Review 37:The staff were very helpful, patient and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble, a real family atmosphere! The breakfast was great, buffet style breads etc and fabulous REAL coffee (not 'instant' yuk!). Room was cleaned every day, bedding changed etc.
Review 38:Very warm welcome by the owner. Helpful with tipps for dinner and my next days on walking the WalesCoastPath. Breakfast perfect (no bacon snd eggs - but fruits, bread and cheese). Very clean and friendly. My very best on niw wslking 14 days on the path !!!
Review 39:The stay was too short.
Review 40:Very friendly staff and a very comfortable stay, wish we could have stayed longer. Good food, clean room and an excellent location.
Review 41:There was nothing we didn't like
Review 42:The location of the accommodation, it is in the town and the knowledge of the girl on reception was really good and informative
Review 43:Nothing to dislike.
Review 44:Everything. Small family run hotel. Carl and & Anja worked hard to see that our stay was trouble free. Local knowledge was perfect. Location perfect and central. Breakfast was help yourself continental. Can't fault this hotel at all. Recommended.
Review 45:Nothing to dislike!
Review 46:Upon arrival, Carl provide a warm welcome. Great hospitality throughout our stay. Rooms are clean and comfortable. The same applies for the bathroom. The shower is a treat after a long day being outdoor. We will come back and would definitely recommend a stay at this B&B.
Review 47:Friendliness of our smiling hosts Anja and Carl. Their willingness to support and assist us in our every need [and more]. So glad we found Tudor Lodge on line.
Review 48:The only downside was that our stay was too brief.
Review 49:From the moment we arrived the owners and staff were all very friendly and helpful, with good advice on local restaurants and sights. A pleasant stay and we hope to return one day.
Review 50:that it rained but didn't let it spoil our stay xxx
Review 51:lovely couple and helped us choose a good eatin place and enjoyed the bar you choosed also will mention you to others xxx
Review 52:Nothing to complain about whatsoever....
Review 53:Everything was spot on. Carl got to know his guests and checked all was ok and gave loads of info for places to eat and what to see. Although we didnt use them on this occasion the 20% discount for the steam trains would have been most welcome. Liked the 'tapestry's' Will definitely come again.
Review 54:room size was confining without a seating area and lack of seating area in other parts of facility except in what amounted to 2 chairs in a hallway
Review 55:Location was convenient to area and town and managers were very friendly and informative
Review 56:Smallish room. Wifi only operated during reception hours (7.30 am to 9.30 pm approx).
Review 57:Clean,well maintained building and room. Location. Parking. Very good continental breakfast.
Review 58:the couple who manage the place were very helpful with where to go, places to see and eat. The room was comfortable and breakfast great. The place was so close to town and supermarkets. Bed comfortable, shower hot and wifi good.
Review 59:The manager was very helpful in giving me all the information when I arrived, but I was a bit tired after a long drive and appreciated the comfortable room. Right in the centre of Porthmadog and handy should you wish to go on the steam railway there. For me the car park was a great attraction as I do not like to leave my car on the road.
Review 60:Loved the accommodation and the hosts added lovely touches to the place and the breakfast which was hearty. The couple running the place were very friendly and knowledgable of the area and the location was perfect for the surrounding areas and within walking distance of many attractions.
Review 61:The only small thing we would like to add is that, the duvet could have been bigger on the single bed.
Review 62:Everything at the Lodge was perfect. Everyone was helpful and caring and we would recommend to anyone
Review 63:Bed was uncomfortable, room was very small indeed, and I encountered more than a couple of wood lice during my stay. Furthermore the only view I had looked out over a road. The door to the room had only an old fashioned lock with a large keyhole, which offered no security or privacy as the entire room could be viewed through it. I needed up having to hang the do not disturb sign on the inside of the door. The door also failed to keep any noise whatsoever out and I was woken up every time that anyone near me flushed a toilet or took a late night shower. Ultimately not a place I will be returning to or recommending to anyone
Review 64:Wifi was reasonable and the lodge seemed to have links with local attractions which could possibly save money on admission
Review 65:Very friendly and helpful owners, who gave lots of good tips about attractions and restaurants nearby. Great location near town center, lot of attractions nearby and good connections. Nice and peaceful atmosphere in hotel. Porthmadog is very beautiful place.
Review 66:Room small and bed harder than we are used to.
Review 67:Excellent shower and well appointed bedroom/bathroom. Helpful but not overbearing staff. Good breakfast.
Review 68:Very comfortable stay in a good location. Plenty of parking space. There was a wide selection of cereals, fruit, cold meats, bread and croissants available for breakfast.
Review 69:The rock hard bed. I did not sleep even with a a sleep aid. At one point in the night I tried to make my own padding be sleeping on top of the duvet.
Review 70:There staff were so inviting and friendly. The baths and towel warmer were great. The breakfast was well supplied for a continental style service.
Review 71:Our room was immediately above the breakfast room so we were slightly disturbed by conversation ion the breakfast room at 7.30 in the morning when we had hoped for a bit of a lie in : )
Review 72:Very clean and modern furnishings, Superb breakfast (if continental), Friendle helpful owner.
Review 73:Room 4 was rather noisy from the room above, and the stairs leading to the breakfast room.
Review 74:the hosts were very helpful and full of helpful advice on where to eat out and places to visit. Lovely people Carl and Anja. Would like to visit again.
Review 75:Staff were very friendly and informative about local facilities and places to visit. Breakfast had lots of choice. We are quite happy without a cooked meal at the start of the day.
Review 76:The accommodation was very good and conveniently situated for access to a number of places. The staff were very friendly and helpful with much information about places to visit.
Review 77:For £54 the rooms was a little small, and only a continental breakfast. Do not compare this 4 star guest house to a 4 star hotel... in need of lots of modernization i think.
Review 78:Friendly welcome, i was given the details of all the eateries around portmadog. Good car parking.Good wi-fi signal.
Review 79:No complaints about the place. A little more milk on the drink tray would have been better for us.
Review 80:Nice all around stay, the staff is most helpful, the room is comfortable with great shower, the continental breakfast has a really good selection of food and drinks. Small guest house in a central location.
Review 81:Nothing. Great stay. Thank you!
Review 82:Very helpful and friendly hosts Amazing hot showers, very much appreciated after a cold, wet, and windy walk in the hills! Excellent breakfast, loads of choice, all beautifully presented
Review 83:The staff were delightful - so friendly and helpful. They made us feel genuinely welcome. And the continental breakfast was outstandingly good - we were spoiled for choice.
Review 84:We had a lovely stay at this small family run hotel. The staff were very welcoming and helped recommend things to do in the local area. The rooms were large but cosy and the continental breakfast had a wide selection of choice. We would definitely stay here again.
Review 85:Room was rather warm, solved by turning radiator off.
Review 86:Friendly and helpful staff, good continental help yourself breakfast, Room comfortable and quiet.
Review 87:I would have liked a socket by the mirror with more space to do hair and make up.
Review 88:we liked our comfortable beds...we enjoyed breakfasts,,,everywhere is very clean.. anja very friendly and helpful.
Review 89:Sound proofing not great as we could clearly hear people in the next room.
Review 90:Very Clean. Shower was powerful and hot. Heating was good. Plenty of variety in the Continental breakfast. Welcoming, smiling and helpful staff. Private parking.
Review 91:If you take the train to Ffestiniog, make sure you visit the Slate Mine because there's nothing else to do in that town. The alternative is a 3 hour wait before the train back to Porthmadog. You have been warned :)
Review 92:We stopped 2 nights and never had to use the car as there are plenty of things to do within walking distance. The rooms are clean, warm and everything you expect from a 3 star hotel. Breakfast is continental and is excellent and plentiful. The owners are really helpful and work hard to make you feel welcome.
Review 93:Friendly approachable member of staff greeted us when we checked in. The rooms were extremely cosy and heated to just the right temperature for comfort. The continental breakfast was fantastic with fresh coffee, cereals toast and a wide selection of fresh fruits, yoghurt and preserves. Again, the service was friendly and efficient. I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel!
Review 94:Lovely room; wonderful bathroom and glorious shower; excellent REAL continental buffet breakfast; very friendly hosts... all top stuff! Would definitely go again.
Review 95:We were spending the weekend in Barmouth competing in the beach races. We looked on booking.com for b&b to stay in and it said Tudor Lodge was 5.8 miles away. We were not expecting the 35 mile trip to our hotel from the races.
Review 96:Everything about Tudor Lodge was fantastic. The staff were great and they even came in earlier in the morning so we wouldn't miss breakfast. Couldn't fault the cottage given to us and would definitely recommend to others.
Review 97:Nothing!!!!!
Review 98:Of the many places I could have stayed, I am glad it was here. The staff were charming and helpful. They knew all there was to know about the local area and events going on, right down to public footpaths and ways to climb into the hills safely around the area. Great breakfast again no matter what they were doing in the kitchen they stuck their heads out just to say good morning and would remember your name. A real personal touch lost by so many of these places. I cannot recommend this little place highly enough!
Review 99:The lack of a cooked breakfast, although we were aware of this when we made the booking.
Review 100:Very attentive and helpful hosts, spacious rooms and an ideal location for exploring north west Wales. Whilst I always look forward to a cooked breakfast when on holiday, the vast choice available in the buffet style offering made up for it.
Review 101:nothing to report
Review 102:We received a very warm and informative welcome by the owners. The room was very comfortable together with an en-suite / shower. Tea and coffee in the room. As much as we wanted from the wide selection of cereals, fruits and breads for breakfast. Free to come and go as we wished Tudor Lodge catered for all our needs. Many Thanks
Review 103:Car par was around the back and was a bit of a mission to take luggage around... But that is minor compared to the lovely staff
Review 104:The staff where fantastic and helpful. The breakfast was fresh and plentiful
Review 105:Room was rather cramped, mainly because it had too many drawers/cupboards; with no "desk" space for laptop and lighting badly placed for reading. Wi-Fi speed good but no security.
Review 106:Very welcoming and friendly Manager; close to mainline train station and not far from tourist railways, laundromat close by and plenty of choices for evening meals.
Review 107:Pillows were hard the floor above creaked loudly whenever anyone moved.
Review 108:Very pleasant staff. Took time to have a chat with guests. Great location, breakfast good with a selection of fresh fruit and bread.
Review 109:Nothing - heartily recommended
Review 110:A) The friendliness of the staff - nothing was too much trouble. They helped with the baggage, they made sure we were settled in our room & they showed us all that we needed to see, including the breakfast room. Also, once they heard we were travelling on the Welsh Highland Railway, they gave us a 20% discount voucher! This would also apply to the Ffestiniog - I feel sure that if you were travelling on both, you would receive a discount for both. B) The quietness, despite the front of the hotel facing the main road - our room was ground floor toward the back. C) The comfort levels, which were very high
Review 111:We would have appreciated larger duvets.....perhaps these are provided in the winter?
Review 112:Wonderful staff Excellent location Immaculate facilities Warm & cosy room Great breakfast
Review 113:Wanting to visit nearby Portmeirion , this Hotel was an inspired choice. Welcoming, knowledgable and friendly staff and very comfy single rooms made for a marvellous four night stay. thank you.
Review 114:- very friendly, helpful and courteous staff - clean accommodation My wife liked the power shower, a choice of tea bags, plenty of fruit for breakfast, rose-fragrant hand-soap. She was given a surprise birthday card and chocolate and was very happy.
Review 115:This is a superb place to stay, handy to the steam trains, good parking, comfortable room, wonderful breakfast and Jana was a very friendly and helpful host
Review 116:Stairs (up to bedroom and down to breakfast room) a bit narrow and steep - might be down to the fact that I use a walking stick.
Review 117:Good location Friendly staff Mini-Railway museum in breakfast room
Review 118:...the croissants at breakfast were a bit hard!
Review 119:The owners were really pleasant and extremely helpful - they were attentive without being 'on top'. The room itself was perfect for us as a couple, and being able to saunter around Porthmadog and back to the hotel at our leisure was really appreciated!
