Reviews for Pontins-Pakefield Holiday Park
Review 1:The beds can be a little uncomfortable, this is normally sorted by bringing an extra duvet or mattress topper
Review 2:Pontins Pakefield is great value for money, the breakfast is great. The room was clean and warm with a mini kitchen. The Blue Coats were wonderful as ever.
Review 3:Some of veg were hard but apart from that nothing at all to report
Review 4:We loved the food was very nice, the room was lovely and clean no problems whatsoever Fantastic stay
Review 5:bathroom was disgusting beds too small, bars during day too cold "type of traveller" question doesnt have a catagory for me which was mother and daughter
Review 6:food was good staff were pleasant bluecoats great
Review 7:Sorry but the beds are awful. The mattress is like sleeping on a wooden fence, never slept for two nights.
Review 8:Almost everything was really good. Great food and plenty of it.
Review 9:when we got there had to make our own bed as booking .com has said they only have to supply bedding this is the 1st time this has happened in our 4 stays we have b'n there
Review 10:all was good
Review 11:The room needs a referb as was very worn out .the beds very hard need upgrade .we would .net will to pay more for rooms but they do need some work on them.
Review 12:Food was good .price was very good and facility good.
Review 13:Parking not enough parking for the amount of guests
Review 14:Turkey and tinsel break. Food was excellent and entertainment really good for a laugh watching the Christmas show. Chalet was clean warm and comfortable bed.
Review 15:Chalets could do with smartening up. Beds not very comfortable, but after a few visits we have learned what to take to make it more comfortable, ie mattress cover to make it softer. But for what we paid don't expect 5*. Would rather keep the cost low.
Review 16:Food excellent and plenty to choose from. Canteen staff very nice, friendly and efficient. Food being replenished all the time so always plenty. Nothing too much trouble for them. Entertainment very good.
Review 17:I booked a room in August for November. I rang on the day to check and they told me they had lost my booking. We were going over to meet friends which we had to cancel. They told me their system had gone down, which was the excuse they gave last time when I rang because they hadn't sent me an email. They then sent the email to my friend instead. They are very disorganized. Do not rely on this hotel if you have an important meeting.
Review 18:I have stayed here before. The rooms were comfortable and clean
Review 19:the room had a linked door and we could here the couple next door who talked and snored all night
Review 20:Entertainment a good standard and staff were friendly
Review 21:car park 100 per cent full had 2 park 2 far away. room ..1 chair for 2 people bed we could feel every spring .
Review 22:the price,72 pound hb we wood only go again if the price was rock bottom
Review 23:The disputes regarding people leaving flags/cloths on tables in the entertainment hall to reserve the table. Totally out of order. Lots of bad arguments. People were expecting to sit at a particular table just because they had left their table cloth on it!
Review 24:Location
Review 25:Bed was slightly poor for us as we are both tall and so was a squeeze and very hard mattress
Review 26:Nana was poorly at local hospital which meant we weren't around for the timetable for meals however they made sure we still got fed and allocated us a layer meal instead ! Half price drinks with turkey and tinsel very good fun
Review 27:I stayed one extra night and just mentioned to a receptionist that I missed breakfast because on the Monday because the Monday to Friday entertainment guide showed breakfast till 10am but it actually closed at 9am. The receptionist said to me 'well that's not very good, let me mention it to my manager'. I was then asked to wait as her manager Sandra was going to come out and see me. I said it really wasn't a problem but se insisted. Sandra then had me waiting for ten minutes, and when she came out, even though I said I was only giving feedback and was not complaining, she spoke to me like a child, made me feel like an idiot, and was having a go at me. How she became manager god only knows, but it spoils it for the others because every other member of staff was excellent. Special praise also to Sally-Anne on reception who couldn't do enough to help.
Review 28:I marked you down one on staff but actually this was only ruined by the reception manager, think her name is Sandra, who is very rude and condescending. All other staff, including reception, bar, dining hall, cleaning and maintenance staff were fantastic.
Review 29:I booked two double rooms and a twin... We saw a load of double rooms vacant ... But was told I can't give you a double if there aren't any to sell.. Bedding horrendous... Place at the back of the site ... Long walk to reception for no good reason as a larger percentage of rooms were empty.. Shame as a group of us meeting annually and hoped we'd found a new venue. Clearly not.
Review 30:mattress so uncomfortable .unpleasant smell which came from shower plughole.curtains that do not cover the window properly ,passers by could easily look in.. high step into shower and into the front door.car park so muddy and the potholes so many..had to phone reception as bed linen and towels were not in either room.(not sure why it is called the CLASSIC ROOM .)we did book 3 nights we stuck it out for two.it would be nice to get a refund do not think that will happen Knowing that it worked out we paid 108 pounds each for two nights was quite sickening..i will never use this place to stay again..regards GM also dinner trays dripping wet and looked not nice .that.'s it.
Review 31:toaster, fridge microwave nice and new even though they were not used. by us.
Review 32:Not a terrible issue. Telephoned on morning to request earlier check in as attending wedding locally which staff unable to allow.
Review 33:We often stay, excellent value. Any problems have always been sorted quickly. Regard Pakefield as our local. Have placed good reviews for all Pontins we have stayed at.
Review 34:Meal times too early. Horrendous high steps into chalet - wheelchair impossible - couldn't swap to chalet with lower step even though many were unoccupied.
Review 35:Close to home.
Review 36:Small, smelled, dirty stained bed, quilt & pillows. Couldn'tswing a hamster round in it. Should be closed down
Review 37:Even for £36 a night it was a rip off. Disgusting room, smelled anddirty. Can't believe this place is allowed to stay open. Do notbook. We promptly booked ourselves into the local premier inn afterwalking in and straight back out. Awful. We just needed a room to sleep, nothing fancy but Oh My God!!!
Review 38:no bad experiences.
Review 39:I honestly can not understand how pontins can be making any profit as the price we paid and the service/entertainment we received were fantastic. The food was good with different choices. The chalet was clean and had everything in for what little time you spend in them. We did have a problem with a smell from the fridge but after reporting it to house keeping, someone was there within 5 minutes and the problem was dealt with. The games room had received a paint and new flooring which smarten the place up. Robert and the blue coats are great, always happy and are great with the kids. the activities that they put on for the kids are great, these must be charged at cost price (price of pumpkin, tools, torch) as it was only £3 I have been to other family resorts and i know that this would be at least double the price. Evening entertainment is good with the bluecoats and additional acts. Customers need to appreciate that if they want the luxury apartments, al la carte menu etc then they will have to pay more than the price it is at pontins. Dont change from tradition, keep it cheap and very cheerful..
Review 40:The beds could do with changing.
Review 41:Found all staff polite and they were always busy, never saw anyone ever standing around. Food was superb, choice for absolutely everyone.
Review 42:OK we know you won't get 5 star but for £46 per room you do get bed breakfast and evening meal. Also for your money there is evening entertainment as well as and indoor heated swimming pool, snooker, table tennis. Everything is pretty basic but for £23 a head you can't complain.
Review 43:Rooms need to be updated, change quilts and pillows and towels. Swimming Pool needs extra lights and private changing room. Felt cold in bar lounge areas
Review 44:Food was good, very close to the beach
Review 45:couldnt lock the door from the inside so had to put a chair in front of it and also the beds were so hard also the fridge smells of fish i brought this to the attention of the reception but her teply was oh ok . no sorry at all i was going to come back becuse apart form that had good time but the attuide of your staff has now put me off
Review 46:ilike the entertament and the food
Review 47:car park very full, muddy and too far away from chalet. Bedding provided is dreadful but we always bring our own. fast food kiosque in the concert room smells. I suppose the extractor would make too much noise when the acts are on??
Review 48:Friendly staff. Super food. Excellent entertainment. Plenty of hot water and radiator worked well in chalet. having a TV was good.
Review 49:check in availiable till 8pm, "deal" is half board, but food stops at 7pm - this was not clear at booking. make your own bed! polyester bedding! disposable bedding! it might be cheap but its worse than camping. the breakfast was inedible
Review 50:it was clean
Review 51:we took our own bedding as did some regulars. - essential, the bedding supplied is extremely tired. - living room very tiny but cosy, fridge by bed bit noisy but got used to it 2nd night.
Review 52:the buffet food experience - helping yourself to food then trying to get a seat in 'the life boats'. fun. great value. no electric meter! friendly staff. bar happy hour. little shop on site for snacks. great base for touring Suffolk. being youngest there!
Review 53:It was a back to the 1950s experience. Make your own bed (with 100% nylon bedding), Hi-di-Hi chalet and car park that looked like it had just been carved out of the landscape.
Review 54:Value for money - accommodation + 2 meals for less than £50 for two is amazing. for a 1-night weekend stopover in Norfolk/Suffolk - just the job.
Review 55:The so called bed lines supplied was dreadful. A cross between nylon and terylene fabric starched - absolutely dreadful. Shower did not stay kept turning itself off. Bathroom floor did not look like it had been cleaned. Why was the fridge not in its place under the work unit but next to the TV!
Review 56:Kitchen area seemed well equipped with microwave kettle and at least there was a fridge!
Review 57:Been here twice now in the past few weeks .Love it here. Staff are so friendly. Ola, Judy, Dan in arcades and the young girl in the cafe. We had a bad bit of luck with moving to a house in Suffolk and they were so caring.
Review 58:The overall run-down condition of the buildings etc - and in particular the fact that if you have not bought your own bedding (which was impossible for us, as we had come over from Spain) you have to buy a "linen pack" and make your own bed. How they have the nerve to call it "linen" is beyond belief! The sheet, pillowcases and duvet cover were all of the thinnest, poor quality polyester I have every come across! I quite understand that laundry costs have to be considered, but a cotton/polyester mix would launder just as easily and would at least be a little more comfortable.
Review 59:Convenient location for the event we were attending in Benacre. (Just up the road)
Review 60:Think maybe dishcloth n teatowel to clean sides might be of ideal stay. Things you never think to take for two night stay. Picture on TV did mess up second night. But overall good.
Review 61:Chalet was very clean. Ideal for our visit. Staff were lovely. Entertainment was brilliant just wrong week for ourselves.
Review 62:Rooms were to small there was no internet bed wasn't comfy and u had to make it yourself no bath just a weak shower hole place needs a update
Review 63:Not a lot
Review 64:Rooms had microwave toaster kettle sink crockery and cutlery was a nice addition to the room which was very clean and adequate the pool was large and lovely and warm all staff very friendly
Review 65:booked 2 nights only stayed 1, noise , noise , and more noise , it was like neighbour's were in same chalet. could even hear them stirring their tea .
Review 66:nothing , what you pay for is what you get !!
Review 67:Accommodation needed updating .. a lick of fresh paint and a some new fittings would have given our review a higher score.
Review 68:The price, value for money excellent .. entertainment was also well organised and enjoyable.
Review 69:Everyone so cheerful and always happy to help.as car battery went flat man who drove blue truck with other workers got it sorted the staff always go the extra mile.
Review 70:We have booked befor with no problems but this time our beds was not made up and there were no towels, the towels were rectified but took a long time. Also we had no bedside cabnet which was a pain.
Review 71:Very good value for money including half board, food quality was basic but ok. Location and entertainment was very good.
Review 72:chalet was far to small , didnt like being in there at all ,in fact my wife cried when we walked in ,nowhere near the car park like we asked for and a bit of a walk to resturant / club house as my wife has difficulty in walking
Review 73:enjoyed the entertainment ,food was good , for the money it was ok
Review 74:The bed was a bit springy but we are quite easy going so we made do.
Review 75:Clean chalet with complementary tea, coffee ect.evening meal not fantastic but edible, breakfast good. For the money an enjoyable experience, we would use the camp again.
Review 76:Lots to do and superb value for money. Food plentiful and chalet nice and clean. You have to be able to put up with the noise but for a 6 year old paradise.
Review 77:Having to make my own bed on arrival.Overpowering smell of bleach in the chalet.no toiletries and the bath inadequate as it was designed for disabled people and could not be used as a full bath. Totally overbooked ,unable to find seating in the eating hall. No daytime privacy in the chalet as the windows only had curtains to be pulled at night.Even then the curtain rail dids not cover the full window
Review 78:Nothing
Review 79:The chalet was disgustingly grubby and unkept. The shower andshower curtain pole were so rusty you couldn't tell it wassilver in colour. Greasy head marks on wall and pillows that wereonly fit for the bin.
Review 80:Knowing it was a short trip, couldn't wait to leave
Review 81:there was damp in the roo. Not good for asthma sufferers. Poor cleaning and cramped rooms with no ventilation. Needs more cleaning and maintenance and lots of improvement
Review 82:Themed weekend entertainment was good. Location by the beach is good. Breakfast ok
Review 83:Parking and as it was off season there wasn't enough to do without using your car . But if you did there was no parking when you came back. Also beds were very uncomfortable and not enough pillows.
Review 84:Our beds were uncomfortable and the 100% polyester sheets and duvet covers did not help.
Review 85:Food was freshly cooked and plentiful, representing good value for money when staying half board. Access to a beautiful beach. Very cheap.
Review 86:Food was not of a good standard, plenty to eat but not the best quality. Entertainment also mediocre. Would prefer to pay a little more for better food. The bed needs a new better mattress.
Review 87:Apartment was okay for size. Staff friendly.
Review 88:The room was not clean, there was no bedding until we requested it, and we then had to make the bed. The mattress was poor, the bedding was beyond description, there was no mattress cover. We shall not be staying again
Review 89:Guests moved in next door, a family chalet with just an internal doorseparating them from us. Could almost hear them breathing. Total lack ofprivacy. Left immediately, one day early.Staff at reception indifferent.
Review 90:Good entertainment. Good food.
Review 91:the staff their attitude towards assisting with any queries The accommodation was missing our linen pack finally arrived after many requests at 9pm with no apologies at all
Review 92:Only booked as a last result. Room was disgusting, filthy, smelly, shabbyand nothing whatsoever like the photos on the internet. On arrival therewas no towels or even bedding in the two twin rooms that I booked.Ittook two visits from a cleaner to get the thick dust out from curtainsand wipe the windowsills. Despite the incredibly small bath beingcleaned again I could not bring myself to use it. Windows also neededcleaning. You have to make your own bed when you eventually get thebedding delivered to your room,(which took three requests from myself).ICant imagine how the weak or elderly get on with that. Only one pillowand pillow case per bed.Linen like shiny paper and bed uncomfortable. Mydaughter was kept awake by hearing through the thin walls the guestsnext door arguing and playing repetitive music all night. This waswithout a doubt the worse experience of accommodation we have everhad. We will never return how ever desperate we get we would rather sleepin the car.
Review 93:Quantity and quality of food good, polite staff, canteen clean.
Review 94:Beds not made up hen arrived, had to ring the security as reception closed. they bought new linin and left us to make bed up ourselves. TV Screen tiny
Review 95:Good location, good price, Accommodation very basic but Clean
Review 96:There was little or no adult entertainment and, if there was, it was well hidden. I also specifically requested certain things as I was trying to give my sister, who has terminal cancer, a nice break. All of these were totally ignored and yet could have been accommodated. Overall it was like being at a kindergarten - lots of screaming children and nowhere to go to get away from them. Definitely would not go back.
Review 97:Going home
Review 98:The joining door was not locked nor was there a key to lock it we thought it was the bathroom, so when we checked in at gone midnight it was to late to raise the issue, we did walk in on an couple in bed! If we had checked in at 4 then all of our valuables would have been in a room that was not secure. We mentioned it the next day but got no apology also we were woken all through the night with people arguing and drunk and talking outside our rooms!!
Review 99:The breakfast, the price and the location
Review 100:Facilities unclean. Flea bitten as soon as we entered accommodation.bites to wife's leg got infected.toilet with urine on,still wet, dripping. Beds unmade, mattress split and old.wouldn't let a dog sleep in there.decor needs a complete facelift.
Review 101:Room had two singles which we had to push together to make a double, only one duvet, on arrival so we had to higher a double. Room was dirty and smelt musty. Breakfast was ok If you like sausages which have no meat content, and uncooked fried eggs. Dinner was aimed at young children only. Juice machine was squash not fresh juice.
Review 102:Staff are friendly and plenty of seats in the evening for the entertainment.
Review 103:at initial booking in we were given a twin room and when we informed the staff @ reception that we had been given the wrong room we were told to take it or leave it, as they had no other rooms. 1 call to Booking.com and a double room was found. We were told to collect the towels and welcome pack from our first room to take to our second room and then to return the keys. when i suggested that the recpetionist did she said Its not my job as a receptionist - I promptly reminded her that it was not my job as a guest.
Review 104:The location was very good and the facilities were very clean. The restaurant had a canteen feel about it but the area was very clean and the food was fresh and plentiful. restaurant staff were very good and friendly
Review 105:Kids cabaret a bit long one night. Eg the Magician. Kids were losing interest.
Review 106:My 10 year old son liked the restaurant. Self service. Instant access to meals! Not greedy just gets bored of waiting. We also thought meals very good quality. Lots of tables in clubhouse at night as so big. Excellent facilties for kids on site, bike hire, trampolines. Meeting the characters was a big hit for our 4 year old. You could take your own photos with the characters was also a positive.
Review 107:the food. the sausages were awful. not many choices. played bingo every night to screaming kids. maybe if you had a earlier bingo and not allow kids in, not much for the mature person to do during the day.
Review 108:going home. the breakfast choice was very good.
Review 109:Lack of staff, chaotic, shabby, some facilities not available, should have been buzzing as bank holiday weekend but very few staff available, some were rude and disinterested in being there. The entertainment certainly wasn't 'the best show on earth'. Very disappointed
Review 110:Local area
Review 111:Accommodation was very basic and unclean. There was stupid bingo everynight from 7.30pm to 9 pm. The swimming pool was always jam packed fullof unwashed chavs, with no suitable changing rooms, if you wanted tospectate you got high on chlorine fumes. The entertainment was rubbish. The quality of the majority of the people who stayed there was aboutchav status, had to call security at 2 am one morning as a new bunch ofinmate chavs that had turned up that day were outside making a racket, waking up the whole camp, these chavs behaved as they would back in theghettos from which they spawned. The beds were terrible, we had to buyour own memory foam mattress to enable us to sleep, the showers havepush button switches which last about 10 seconds. It was difficult toget a table at breakfast or tea time due to all the chavvy familiessaying tables were taken for their invisible chavvy friends and family. It felt like a prisoner of war camp, we couldn't wait until our sentence was finished and we were able to return to civilized society. Luckily we went out for day trips during our stay and did our own thing, or we would have gone mad. The bar staff made the price of drinks up as they went along.
Review 112:The food was good, considering they were cooking for hundreds ofungrateful and rude messy people. The staff that prepared and served thefood and those who worked tirelessly and cleaned up the mess after theanti social rabble of humanity had feasted. The beach near by waslovely. The road out of it.
Review 113:apartment we stayed in the first night light switch in bedroom was faulty and dangerous couldnt have a bath as cracked bath which pinched my childs foot whilst he was trying to have a shower
Review 114:close to beach lots for the kids to do and great evening entertainment
Review 115:Thin walls in the chalets (easy to hear a pin drop next door), and the bed mattress.
Review 116:Choice of food, it's quantity & all-you-can-eat attitude (plenty of people enjoyed it enough to back for more!)
Review 117:No towels or bed linen when we arrived late, had to go back to security to get them to sort it out. The room didn't look like it had been cleaned, with the carpet very badly stained.
Review 118:Could not get a remote for the tv for three days. Requests seem to get lost. Not many there during my stay and a neglected down beat feel to the place. Bar was closed due to lack of custom
Review 119:The location was fine for my purpose which was kayaking on the Norfolk Broads.
Review 120:Had to move accommodation due to a flying ant nest in the first one which would have been seen if the room had been cleaned properly. Hard beds so didn't sleep. The standard of food and the state of the dining room were terrible. Has gone downhill since last year.
Review 121:The swimming pool was kept clean.
Review 122:One minor niggle was that the floor was a bit gritty, and there was dust under the beds. The swimming pool could have been open earlier.
Review 123:You get what you pay for, but for an economy break it was very good. The park was well maintained, and while the property was a little shabby, it was generally quite clean. The food in the restaurant was surprisingly good for the money. The entertainment was brilliant for our 6 year old grandson.
Review 124:Dirty carpet as soon as you stepped in the door (very off putting). Reported this to reception and staff visited straight away, but this should not have been there in the first place.
Review 125:The location and staff helpful.
Review 126:It was not the right weekend to go with children and there was not entertainment at all.
Review 127:Lovely beach and very nice environment, good location and easy reach for Great Yarmouth and Norwich.
Review 128:Long queues for salad bar and jacket potato counter. Bad parking.
Review 129:Well set out chalet with microwave an toaster and fridge not expected in type of chalet booked. Great value £72.00 for 2 nights bed breakfast and evening meal.
Review 130:Entertainment - had microphone issues, too loud and vibrating. Blue coats did not seem too well organised. Had repair men out three times to repair a fridge that was still not working when we left. They did respons quick to electric repairs.
Review 131:Rooms were cramped and old fashioned, but I didn't need to be there for long so it didn't affect me.
Review 132:Location next to the beach - and what a fantastic beach.
Review 133:The ensuite facilities were rather cramped.
Review 134:The food was very good, both in quality and quantity. The staff were helpful and obliging at all times. The accommodation was adequate And mainly up to expectation.
Review 135:The beds were very uncomfortable. Need to take extra bedding (iemattress cover or blanket) to add extra padding to the mattress.Otherwise no complaints.
Review 136:Excellent value for money. Food very good and plentiful. Restaurantstaff very hard working and friendly. Entertainment good.
Review 137:No refund or any negotiations that suited us. Won't consider them / you again as in the dogmatic refusal to give us suitable options as I am still recovering from large back operation
