Reviews for Royal Hotel

Review 1:Cute little hotel. Hotel is a classic old hotel. Room & Facilities maybe old but well maintained, clean, confortable and add sense of character of the town. Ideal entry point to stay & explore Lewis. Eat at the hotel as rest of the town has very limited opening hours esp on Sunday.

Review 2:The wi-fi is supposed to have different connections for different room numbers. We didn't seem to have a connection for our room and couldn't connect to any of the other hotspots.

Review 3:Very friendly and helpful staff. The option to have an early continental breakfast before an early flight. Clean room with a great view.

Review 4:There is a shortage of restaurants in Stornoway so you need to book the restaurant every night to ensure that you get food

Review 5:Good location in the centre of town Excellent dining

Review 6:Ensuite needs updating, clean but very tired, water for shower eventually hot.

Review 7:Good central location with water and castle view, car park, close to ferry port, good breakfast, HS2 restaurant meal good with big portions.

Review 8:Our room was rather small and cramped, and the bath towels were tiny! The shower barely produced a weak dribble.

Review 9:Lovely location on the harbour side opposite the castle and close to shops and restaurants etc. Nice restaurant, and bar, and car parking was available too.

Review 10:The staff was very friendly. The meal at the hotel restaurant was one of the best we had on our 2-week trip. The room was lovely. Our view of the harbor was perfect.

Review 11:Water pressure was very poor unpleasant for showering in room 16. Room 10 for our brother a single room was very noisy being at the back of the hotel no view and above the kitchen area constantly smelt of food and was noisy due to extraction fan?.

Review 12:We liked the staff they were friendly and polite and the convenience of the cark park. The bistro served good food. Overall a pleasant experience.

Review 13:Room was a little chilly (as was the weather at the time!) Shower room rather tired and could do with updating.

Review 14:Great location - nice and central, with good view. Very nice restaurant with pleasant atmosphere and decor.

Review 15:This hotel was in a very central position in Stornoway. The reception staff were very friendly and informative. Although the room was a bit dated it was very comfortable and spacious. The view from the window on to the marina was just lovely. Dinner was excellent and breakfast was adequate. Car park at rear was easy to access from our bedroom on the first floor.

Review 16:Restaurant a bit chaotic with different menus meaning that certain dishes were unavailable if you walked a metre. Staff attributed this to the chefs (which was probably true).

Review 17:Great location. Staff very helpful

Review 18:Rooms were quite small. No sitting room for guests. The menu was quite limited and not very imaginative Booking.com was unable to communicate to the hotel that the we're 2 people in each room, resulting in a charge of an extra £20 per night which we didn't expect.

Review 19:Location by the waterside. Central for the town. Easy access to other parts of the island

Review 20:The tables in the restaurant were too small. And the breakfast was unimaginative.

Review 21:Nice, comfortable room, with a nice toilet- and shower room en suite. The dinner was excellent.

Review 22:The fitments in the shower room and toilet were a little dated, and the taps in the shower and wash basin were stiff, and had a tendency to drip. Although the room is double glazed, traffic noise from the road outside together with various unspecified plumbing noises did disturb my sleep. To be fair, I am a light sleeper, and had forgotten to pack my earplugs.

Review 23:A stunning view overlooking the harbour across to Lews Castle and the castle grounds. The room was clean, and the bed comfortable. Cooked breakfasts seemed to be cooked to order, and were of a high standard. The choice is extensive, and the Stornoway black pudding (Macdonalds) and the local kippers are particularly to be recommended.

Review 24:Approx. 00.30, I decided to have a shower before going to bed, and despite tap water from sink still being hot, the shower water was only lukewarm - not remotely hot. Very disappointing, as I feel this is one of the most important factors when staying in hotel/ B & B

Review 25:Accessibility was central; inside was very nice despite perhaps being a little dated

Review 26:Could not manage to feed guests dinner after 17.30! Strange menu selections and timings. Room v small. Nobody on reception Sunday morning at 9am for check out and taxi.

Review 27:Good bed. Location excellent for town.

Review 28:the price !! room rate I think is a little steep but I suppose when you own a gem you can charge what you like.... it didn't spoil our stay !!

Review 29:everything about this place was brilliant !!!!!! fab room and facilities with breathtaking view of the harbour, we sat for hours just chillaxing at our window. The food and facilities in the boatshed restaurant were just perfect, we could not fault service or staff, all helpful and friendly.

Review 30:Small Bathroom.

Review 31:Location, great for getting out and about. Comfort of Bed and Pillows. Staff are excellent. HS-1 Bistro is excellent. Rooms at the front have a great view over the Harbour.

Review 32:Our only complaint is that the car park is far too small, only 8 spaces for quite a large hotel.

Review 33:A lovely traditional Scottish hotel. We had a lovely room with a great view of the loch and marina. We can highly recommend the restaurant. The food was excellent. We had the early bird menu, £22 each for 3 courses. Really good value.

Review 34:Location was excellent for getting to everywhere in Stornoway that I needed to go. View of castle from room was wonderful, as were the terns flying around the boats below. Complimentary toiletries were heavenly after two weeks on a very remote island.

Review 35:Only thing that let it down was there is no lift!

Review 36:Nice clean room, wonderful food, good view of castle. A very traditional(old fashioned) style of hotel but it was lovely!

Review 37:stay away from the Lasagne it was cheese and grease first time had a lasagne that had no pasta in it, I was almost ill, but on upside waiter had it removed from my bill, street sweepers come by early in morning, and boy racers love blasting by there all night

Review 38:view from room was excellent, staff exceptionally helpful and courteous

Review 39:first room. Had asked for a double and got a back room which was eye level to car park with extractor fan at window. It had a funny smell and was noisy and cold. When moved after complaining it was good

Review 78:Bathroom could be a little more updated.

Review 79:The hospitality and location, food is above EXCELLENT, no exageration.

Review 80:Nothing really bad but shower pressure in bathroom too low for a decent shower

Review 81:Excellent location by harbour and good food.

Review 82:Comfortable and clean. The attached cafe bar was excellent.

Review 83:Very poor heating in room, otherwise excellent service

Review 84:bedrooms was a bit on the small size

Review 90:A bit old fashioned and no lift but would happily recommend it.

Review 91:Location, food and very clean.

Review 92:Location; friendly and efficient staff; comfortable bed; breakfast

Review 93:Nothing. It's a great place to stay in Stornoway

Review 94:Location View from spacious room Restaurant menu food quality service and ambience

Review 95:Excellent location: near the ferry. Our room had a great view of the harbor and across the water to the castle. The breakfast was very good. We ate dinner from the bar food menu in the main restaurant bar--a good choice! We enjoyed a morning walk through the castle grounds while waiting to catch the afternoon ferry.

Review 96:Bedroom tired. WiFi worked on landing but not in bedroom.

Review 97:Excellent breakfast. Dinner well prepared and presented. Very friendly and efficient young staff. Central location overlooking harbour.

Review 98:We booked a room with a harbour view and were told when we arrived that there were none available. Our room overlooked the car park! The shower was over the bath and not easy to manipulate. TV reception was almost non existent.

Review 99:The hotel was close to the town and harbour and it has a car park!

Review 100:Limited to only a shower instead of a bath; which would have been nice but I think this was due to the limited space in the rooms. Despite this still very nice.

Review 101:Very friendly staff, rooms were nice & comfortable, great location to travel around the island from.

Review 102:Could do with a bit of heat in shower room.

Review 103:Staff very friendly and helpful. Room was spotless. Food was first class. Loved it, will definitely be back.

Review 104:The receptionist was very laid back but professional non-the-less and it made a refreshing change not to be verbally bombarded with information which invariably one forgets two minutes later. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Review 105:nothing!

Review 106:All staff very pleasant, welcoming and helpful. Location excellent. Had a meal in the bar night of arrival - very good and breakfast the next morning was excellent.

Review 107:Nothing +++

Review 108:Nice hotel with lovely view of the harbour and castle. Very nice room, large with sofa and free internet. Nice food although expensive for a Monday night business trip. Maybe I should have gone for the bar menu, no fault of the hotel as I was give the choice. Free parking outside.

Review 109:The staff at the royal were very friendly and professional. We enjoyed our 2 day stay very much. We liked having the option of menus and choice of where to eat within the hotel. Breakfast was lovely and not from a Buffet! keep up the good work. *****

Review 110:Small single room with tiny window overlooking the kitchen venting system. No shower in the bathroom. No comfortable seat in bedroom. Full size desk (?) in bedroom.

Review 111:Easy travelling distance to Ferry

Review 112:That I didn't plan to stay longer.

Review 113:Stornoway is a beautiful coastal village. The Royal Hotel is close to the water and offers a spectacular view of the castle maintained by the Stornoway Trust. From the hotel, it's quite easy to walk into the heart of town or to quaint shops. We enjoyed a few moments of relaxation in the bar before venturing out for an evening stroll. This was our base for visiting the Calanish Stones, the Black Houses, amazing beaches, and other offerings of Lewis and Harris.

Review 114:The first room I had was a bit small, but, when I moved, the second room was pretty luxurious, although I did miss not being able to have a BATH! Also wasn't able to get the WiFi to work with my Kindle, but to be fair as it was on my last day, I did not check with the staff who may well have been able to help.

Review 115:Friendly welcome Central location. Managed to photograph seals in the harbour within an hour of getting off the plane! Food including breakfast, very good. TV's good with multiple channels all with excellent reception.
