Reviews for Mortons House Hotel

Review 1:Bathrooms are a little outdated but given the age of the building that's not really a surprise

Review 2:Lovely location, Corfe at night is soooo pretty all lit up. Hotel staff are really friendly and helpful, dinner and breakfast excellent. Bed was comfortable.

Review 3:The residents' lounge is uninspiring; gloomy and like a railway carriage. So much more can be made of a lovely panelled room. Start with improving the lighting and rearranging the seating.

Review 4:Good value with an excellent dinner.

Review 5:We were very disappointed, we were allocated a disabled room away from the hotel - extremely dark with the only daylight through the door. We reported the fact that the sink appeared blocked and smelly but this was not resolved. Décor very dark and dismal, not at all the standard expected for a premium priced hotel.

Review 6:The location was excellent for visiting the castle and the steam railway. Waiting staff very pleasant.

Review 7:In room electric kettle badly scaled. Dated mahogany bedroom furniture is old fashioned and tired looking, would have expected much better quality for the room rate. Mattress probably reaching the end of its 'comfortable' life.

Review 8:Personable and helpful staff. Lovely location. Room very clean.Very pleasant dining room. Good food.Proximity to Castle and Steam railway extremely convenient.

Review 9:The walls in our bedroom showed quite a few scuff marks, and the decor was dark and a bit dreary. There were no water glasses and the bath was very shallow.

Review 10:The staff were lovely and made us feel very welcome. We had a quiet room at the back with a great view of Corfe Castle, and we slept well in very comfortable beds. Lovely big fluffy towels. We had excellent food in the restaurant.

Review 11:Overall impression of complacency. Decor suits the building but is shabby. No WI-FI available in our room. No water or glasses on tea tray. Bathroom poor, towel rail loose, no bath mat, poor quality shower head, radiator on permenantly, substantial amount of mould on the ceiling. When mentioned to reception on checking out we were told that it would be on the list of things for improvement but it was end of the season. Not really good enough. Will not be returning.

Review 12:Good location close to steam railway and castle. Comfortable bed, good breakfast and good standard of food in the restaurant. Most staff helpful

Review 13:The rooms are in need of total updating and re-decorating. The rooms are gloomy and the bathrooms around 30-40 years old

Review 14:The setting/location, the restaurant. Parking.

Review 15:Bar and restaurant staff not paying enough attention to detail. Need to be a lot more on the ball. Suggest they bring the menu and wine list as they come to take pre meal drinks order. This all seemed to be disjointed and a bit slow.

Review 16:Food was excellent, I would recomend restaurant to anyone. Full marks to the chefs.

Review 17:A warm, friendly welcome to a wonderful traditional hotel. Beautiful room with a fantastic bathroom that resembled a room in a National Trust property.

Review 18:Hard to explain in detail..... But everything was just as it should be. As a hotel experience, Mortons House hotel manages to be more than the sum of its parts. (And it's already made up of such Good parts).

Review 19:We were in awe the moment we pulled up. Simply stunning from the inside out, and the staff were exceptionally attentive, warm and friendly. The food was sensational and there were no issues adapting menu items to cater for a vegetarian. We had both an evening meal as well as breakfast at Mortons House. In fact the hotel was so perfect that after venturing out for the evening, we decided to turn back and stay in the hotel instead. A perfect stay.

Review 20:Poor wifi (appreciate location under the castle doesn't help) Mess up with final bill due to new staff, maybe needed more hand holding before being let loose.

Review 21:Excellent breakfast, cream tea & dinner Very friendly (particularly front of house) Terrace area

Review 22:Beautiful old building but with modern conveniences. Friendly and professional staff made our stay a pleasure. Good food and service. Well sighted for Corfe castle, Swanage and Bovington tank museum.

Review 23:Service in the dining room struggled a bit on one evening when a large party was present. No-one ever came back after our main course to offer dessert or coffee.

Review 24:Couldn't be better placed for visitng Corfe Castle, Studland, Brownsea Island etc. Good value for a comfortable & quiet hotel with good food & wine. Lovely building with plenty of parking

Review 25:The lumpy springs in the old mattress on the narrow bed, the faded and dirt-encrusted bathroom, the feeble shower in the bath which barely flowed over the slope of the bath, the door which jammed on the carpet, the tiny drawers in the furniture, the sagging chairs in the stuffy dining room, the dark and dull lounge, the over-cooked breakfast and poor service, the weeds and dead twigs left on shrubs outside, the view from the dining room of the filthy rear terrace and tradesmen's entrance, the high prices for poor quality.

Review 26:Some staff were cheerful and young Saturday staff were notably more engaging and proactive.

Review 27:The bedroom was tiny in comparison to the price charged, space between end of bed and window very small. Have stayed in many fine hotels around the world and the food and ambience of this one is as good, but the staff (especially at breakfast) need to be more vigilant and aware of their guests needs (impossible to "catch their eye" when you wanted to order additional toast/tea etc).

Review 28:Staff were very friendly, hotel location great, grounds and main building is excellent.

Review 29:For the price it would have been Even Better If: There were two biscuits in our double room. The luxurious Victorian bath was a lovely main feature, so some bubble bath rather than shower gel would be thoughtful. A bath robe would really add a touch of luxury.

Review 30:The staff were amazing, nothing was too much trouble and everything done with a gracious smile. The location couldn't be better and the hotel was warm, clean and comfortable.

Review 31:WIFI didnt work/tv very small/cracked mirror on the dressing table.

Review 32:location/staff(fantastic)/food excelent/coffee after supper in the lounge by the log fire perfect

Review 33:Wifi not set up correctly (common problem at many hotels). No hot water at a certain point in the evening.

Review 34:Lovely old building in a great location run by very likeable and helpful staff.

Review 35:We were in room 5 and we opened the window to let sir on and the noise from the road outside woke us up!!! Next time we'll ask for a different room!

Review 36:The staff were excellent and very friendly....the food was exceptional, and we were surprised at so few stars! It was quiet but not surprising as it was a Monday in February. Still it had atmosphere! We will recommend this hotel and we will return there. Worth the journey.

Review 37:Really bad experience as they gave us the disable room, the floor in bathroom was always wet, the shower was for disable people and we didn’t have WIFI in our room. When I asked them to change our room as we pay for a normal room not for a disable one, the answer was not we don’t have any other room available. I think they should inform this in advance, before you book and pay. I am really disappointed

Review 38:Well, we felt the room was a little glum, (it was February) and the beds in need of upgrading, shower was a bit limp, all in all a little underwhelmed. The staff, location, views, & food made up for it though :-)

Review 39:Characterful, cosy, lovely staff keen to please, easy parking. The standard of food was absolutely excellent, we had an evening meal that puts many restaurants to shame, beautifully presented, and crafted with care, delightful.

Review 40:I booked for my partners 60th birthday. We had a free upgrade to a suite, they provided balloons and champagne requested and desert was served with "Happy 60th Birthday" written around the rim in chocolate. Beautiful hotel, fabulous location and treated like royalty. what more could you ask

Review 41:The hotel needs updating I like the traditional feel of the hotel but it is getting very shabby

Review 42:The location is very good and had very good evening meal at the hotel

Review 43:The room was delightful, the staff were cheerful and very helpful, which helped to make our stay an enjoyable one. I would recommend Morton House without hesitation.

Review 44:Bathroom was dated and rooms could be brighter with lick of paint , the main seating room could be more cheerful very dark , no papers to read while having drink in lounge

Review 45:Nice staff service was fine , food and breakfast were very nice

Review 46:Shower weak

Review 47:Views of Corfe castle & steam trains Wonderful food Beautiful oak panelled lounges & dining room Open fire in lounge Pleasant friendly staff

Review 48:The main road to Swanage compromises pedestrian access to the hotel, at least when it's busy during the day. It's an old building so don't expect air con etc. It's v popular with elderly people, which at least made us feel young.

Review 49:Nice old building with lovely wood panelled lounge. Restaurant is good.

Review 50:Repetitive music in dining room. Poor water pressure for shower - would update bathroom to a shower allowing more room to move. More variety in the menu - maybe some specials each day and bigger portions - especially with the prices charged.

Review 51:The position in the village, although very close to busy road. Bed was comfortable but it would have been nice to have a second armchair in room. Staff were friendly and helpful although some did not always understand what was being asked for.

Review 52:We were exploring the Dorset coast, staying overnight at different places. This was one of our favourites, the staff were very helpful and friendly, and the accommodation was comfortable. We dined in the restaurant, and the food was excellent, with a good wine list

Review 53:No fresh fruit/salad for breakfast.

Review 54:Charming character. Excellent evening meal. Room with an in-bed view of Corfe Castle! Large car park. Peaceful location. Close proximity to the steam railway station for trips to Swanage and surrounds.

Review 55:Food is overpriced and the quantity of food on most dishes we had were very very small e.g ordered haddock and poached egg for breakfast - could not see the haddock under the egg! Continental meat platter snack for two cost £18 but was hardly enough for one person!

Review 56:Service and staff excellent Old stone built hotel but very well kept and excellent ambience Bedrooms are very comfortable Food quality was good

Review 57:pillows and bed were a bit soft the shower was OK but not brilliant room got abit stuffy when the weather got hot - a fan might be helpful

Review 58:staff very friendly able to check in early nice touches like the fruit bowl and extra tea and coffee available Room was very nice with a period feel nice choices for breakfast which was tasty and freshly cooked

Review 59:Hardest bed i have ever slept on,smallest steak i have ever been served up.They finish serving lunch at 13.45,bizarre.

Review 60:Good food generally,reasonable service.

Review 61:Gold walls and curtains made our room appear rather drab. Bathroom ventilation was only fair. Whilst menu was very good it didn't change for the five days we were there and was rather pricey.

Review 62:Family run business with excellent staff who make a stay in this hotel special. Location is superb for Dorset coast. Excellent parking facility. Meals were excellent.

Review 63:Morton House is situated in the charming village of Corfe Castle and a stroll from the actual castle. The bathroom window overlooked the beautiful castle and the bedroom window overlooked the charming vintage steam train station. It was like stepping back in time. The hotel was peaceful and the staff were wonderful. I wish all hotels trained their staff to the brilliant standard of staff at Morton House Hotel. Nothing was too much trouble and they were all smiling! We had a wonderful relaxing weekend which included a lovely evening meal at the hotel, walk up Corf Castle and steam train ride into Swanage.

Review 64:Nothing I could fault.

Review 65:The atmosphere was lovely and the staff were welcoming. We had dinner there and the food and service were excellent. The location looking up at Corfe Castle itself was Just fantastic. Highly recommended.

Review 66:Our room (No6) was stuffy as it was on the side of the hotel facing a blank wa\ll, and opening a window didn't help much.

Review 67:Terrace was attractive. Good for pre-dinner drinks, helped by super weather.

Review 68:location, general atmosphere and food

Review 89:No room in the dinning room, so sat alone intone bar

Review 90:Nice comfortable room

Review 91:Dinner was a bit too formal for my tastes.

Review 92:Quaint little English inn, located in the middle of town. Atmosphere is very relaxed.
