Reviews for Kemps Country House
Review 1:Staff not accommodating regarding change of booking and had to pay full price even though changes were made. Cancelled on night but added room to second night! They charged for both because of their cancellation policy! Should be more accommodating as a family run hotel. Won't be returning!!
Review 2:Nil
Review 3:Kemp's Country House was perfectly situated for Monkey World. Our room was spotless and incredibly comfortable. The hosts were friendly and made guests feel very special. Breakfast was superb, as was our evening meal there. I will stay there again and would recommend it to anyone!! Thoroughly enjoyable experience and wished I could have stayed longer.
Review 4:Lacking refinement for the price. A room at £150+ per night should not have wire coat hangers and cheap toiletries. Evening meals were acceptable, but expensive.
Review 5:Friendly staff, informal atmosphere. Handy for touring. Excellent breakfast
Review 6:No ambiance in the restaurant for dinner. Breakfast only "ok". Music in bar and restaurant in conflict with both playing! A little over priced.
Review 7:Relaxed feel. Location. Dinner menu. Nice staff very friendly.
Review 8:No physical check in/out desk and lady in office dealing with the bill not very professional as was wandering around with a cup of tea in her hand and complaining was too cold to go out and smoke!
Review 9:Room was very large bright and clean. Only thing missing was a bath but the shower was excellent. Evening meal superb chef very good indeed. As was the waitress, attentive polite and made us feel welcomed.
Review 10:Excellent room in the annex - spacious and large bed. Good breakfast cooked to order, none of that warm buffet rubbish. Staff patchy but the girl at breakfast who also did our payment is excellent.
Review 11:1. Heating system is combined with air conditioning so it takes some time to turn it on on the correct setting. Still quite easy once you read the instructions. 2. Breakfast served on Sundays until 10am but check out time is 10am too. We got back to our room to finish packing and leave but reception called us at 10.30am asking whether we wanted a late check out and pay £25 extra.
Review 12:1. Check-in possible between 15.00 and 21.00. We were delayed and called to say we would arrive around 23.00. Key and instructions were made easily available. 2. Bedroom was very comfortable. 3. Bathroom was modern. 4. Quiet and nice location. Very convenient between Swanage and Poole. 5. Very nicely cooked breakfast.
Review 13:the one and only thing that I would feel that I would mention is the English breakfast was a little bit stingy for the price of the B/B just needed a little bit more for money because if you don't eat cereal there were no croissants or rolls for breakfast.
Review 14:The staff and owners were very friendly and helpful the room was clean and very comfortable, central to where we needed to be. The food was enjoyable and fresh.
Review 15:Dining room was somewehat brighter than we would have liked - toned down lighting would perhaps have given it a little more 'atmosphere'.
Review 16:Large comfoitable bed, large well equipped room with excellent shower etc. Considering there was a relief chef on, the food was extremely good.
Review 17:Dinner menu wasn't very varied and meals were very salty!
Review 18:Location it was fantastic. Right in the middle for Monkey World, The Tank Museum, Weymouth, Lulworth Cove etc. The spotlessly clean rooms, good shower, parking on site. Breakfasts were amazing.
Review 19:Fantastic place. Very friendly, John the owner was wonderful as was Agnes, very professional and helpful as we're all staff. Could not fault a thing. Restaurant and food was perfect.
Review 20:The first room we were given in the main house did not have air-con, even though that's what I booked. This room was disappointing. The carpet needed to be changed, the skirting board needed painting and the bathroom was tiny. There was noise from the road because the window needed to be open. The outside seating area needed some attention, not 4* standard. The lack of a reception area is unusual in a hotel, first impressions are important.
Review 21:Nice room with air-con. in annexe. Lovely comfortable bed. Modern bathroom. Bottles of water supplied every day, most welcome. Breakfast is what you would expect for £130 a night. Dining room and bar newly decorated, very pleasant.
Review 22:A parking arrangement to support someone with a disability could be an improvement.
Review 23:My particular requirements were listened to and very well met. Room was very good. Staff were friendly, flexible and very willing to help. Food very good.
Review 24:The staff was lovely and the room was amazing, we felt very welcomed considering we was a young couple, me and my partner would defiantly use them again when we travel up that way again.
Review 25:Nothing much to offer beyond the excellent room, shabby grounds. Nowhere pleasant to sit outside. On a main road. Not quite the classy country house hotel that is portrayed on the website
Review 26:Spacious very comfortable room, huge comfortable bed; very good room facilities and bathroom. Cheerful breakfast waitress and good breakfast.
Review 27:Pillows were to soft. I would like to see a small fridge in the room to chill the water in the rooms.
Review 28:welcoming staff, always polite, time to talk to you, Food always hot and well presented.
Review 29:Wifi was intermittent in our room, if you don't like a cooked breakfast then the choice was very limited.
Review 30:Large room, great shower when the hotel was not busy, good location for exploring different areas of the nearby cost line,
Review 31:I ordered steak off the a la carte menu on the first evening. Unfortunately what turned up was virtually inedible and clearly not steak. The somewhat confused chef apologised profusely but we ate out after that!
Review 32:Comfortable, good sized room in the main building with modern furnishings & equipment.
Review 33:Tiny wardrobe. Know the room had disability access but all the bathroom had was a walk in shower, a basin in the corner and a toilet without a lid! Had to stoop to see in the mirror to shave. The only place to put toiletries etc. was on the windowsill.
Review 34:Comfortable, large bed. Large room.
Review 35:TV had a poor signal, my daughter is disabled so a TV is important. The carpet smelt of urine. When full on the second night it was a bit noisy.
Review 36:The hotel was friendly, apart from the carpet the room was clean and very user friendly. The bathroom was superb. The access was good the dinner was excellent.
Review 37:Note: there is a railway line nearby, and the passing trains can make a lot of noise but we did not notice this at night. We had a room on the upper floor, which was quite a haul with our luggage.
Review 38:This is a simple hotel, but pleasant. The staff is attentive, some are fun. The room is small but clean, there is airconditioning. Dinner was excellent, and not very expensive. Breakfast was good.
Review 39:Slightly dated decor and disappointing buffet options at breakfast, considering the price.
Review 40:Everything was very clean and the restaurant food at dinner was good.
Review 41:Some areas not thoroughly clean, flies in netting in conservatory. Cost per night hard to justify.
Review 42:Great food, comfy bed, good service, lounge area with jukebox, size of bedroom.
Review 43:The wifi was not strong when researching places to visit.
Review 44:The location is a lovely spot with monkey world just 5mins away, lovely views and easy to get to places to visit.
Review 45:Grounds have potential but like some decor in need of a bit of t l c In fairness as we left a gardener was working outside and resturant was obviously recently decorated
Review 46:The food was very good and service in the resturant excellent Facilities for disabled very good and aircon in the room was lovely
Review 47:We chose Kemps as it was fairly close to my daughter's choice of a treat for her 21st birthday (Monkeyworld) All the staff were very helpful & friendly and the food was excellent.
Review 48:Only downside was that we booked a double room but the room was two single beds that we had to push together.
Review 49:The location of this hotel was brilliant, very close to all the local attractions that we wanted to see, good facilities, and very friendly staff.
Review 50:Comfy and clean in a nice location. Don't expect 5* chain hotel standards but everyone is informally friendly and helpful. You'll find little to complain about unless you are a fussy custome. We'd stay there again without a 2nd thought.
Review 51:Hotel overall needs some loving tender care, some areas not well cleaned. In particular the ceiling light curtains in the restaurant/breakfast area.
Review 52:Really big family room, nice bath, good space for a family of 4. Staff was very friendly and did the best they could.
Review 53:Cobwebs in room Carpet not hoovered Blood stains on linen Rusty bathroom bin Limited host interaction, had to find our own way to room. WiFi in room intermittent Unused Furniture stacked up in the corner of the dining room
Review 54:Nothing, hard to fault.
Review 55:The location was good, close to all the sight seeing areas. The house was very clean, staff friendly, we spent our wedding anniversary there, was an first class choice. Breakfast and meals excellent.
Review 56:Toiletries could include a bar of soap and a soap rack for those who want a bath. Shower gel/shammpoo can only be used if using the shower.
Review 57:Bedroom itself
Review 58:We liked the friendliness of the staff, the meals, the cleanliness of the hotel and its convenience to wareham, swanage and the RSPB nature reserve at Arne.
Review 59:The staff and management were all very friendly from the moment we arrived. The room was warm, quiet and very comfortable and the food was first class. Will definitely be back again.
Review 60:Outside could do with a tidy up.
Review 61:Handy location; big, clean comfortable room; food was well cooked, tasty and generous; plenty of parking; owners and staff all friendly and helpful; thoughtful touches like free mineral water in room as well as kettle with tea and coffee.
Review 62:car park / front entrance - looked rather run down so we were pleasantly srprised once inside !
Review 63:room - spacious and well equipped food / service
Review 64:Nothing
Review 65:The rooms are really cosy and comfortable & the staff really friendly. The food in the restaurant was absolutely superb, one of the best meals we have had. I would highly recommend it. And the service was faultless. Great value for money, would definitely stay here again.
Review 66:The WIFI in room 3 was at best intermittent but it worked fine in the main buildings.
Review 67:We were 12 adults and 2 children who stayed for 2 nights and had a family dinner on the last night. We were very well looked after and the food quality was very good. Nothing was too much trouble and the whole group all said how nice it was.
Review 68:We stayed in room 3 and the WIFI was totally unreliable.
Review 69:The staff are very helpful and there is a totally relaxed atmosphere. Breakfast is good. Our party of 12 adults were unanimous in stating how good the dinner was both in quality, quantity and service. Prices are reasonable for what is offered.
Review 70:Could have done with a better sized wardrobe.for hanging. Change of menue Middle week would be appreciated, found no fault with the food.
Review 71:The room was well equiped, plenty of space, very compfy bed.
Review 72:The Wurlitzer could be louder when playing
Review 73:The staff were excellent all round. From the first warm welcome to arranging out of hours breakfasts and the final farewell. The bed in the room was also so comfortable.
Review 74:As vegetarians it would have been nice to see an original item on the menu for dinner but what we had WAS nice.
Review 75:The room we had in the main building was well decorated and it had LOADS of storage. The staff were superb from the moment we arrived. The Hotel was only two miles from our main target venue but well situated for the whole area.
Review 76:We liked the very informal family atmosphere of the hotel and the friendliness of the staff, lovely food, and courtesy and efficiency of the restaurant staff.
Review 77:Very disappointing. The manager was over familiar. We were not shown to our room. The lounge and restaurant were tired and dated . The meals were cafe standard and unimaginative. We were over charged. The hotel boasts five stars which it certainly does not deserve.
Review 78:The bedroom was clean and the soft furnishings and bedding were good. The shower worked well and the towels were white.
Review 79:Busy road and railway line close and too loud to leave windows open.
Review 80:Staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean and well laid out in the heart of a beautiful area. Nice bar and restaurant.
Review 81:Table clothes and Linen Napkins not clean every meal. Owner or Manager not very friendly but all staff very friendly and helpful.
Review 82:Bedroom very large and comfy. Good large bathroom
Review 83:Nothing really.
Review 84:Kemps is a conveniently placed guest house/small hotel. It is close to Wareham and is a good base to visit the Jurassic coast plus other locations. The room we had was spacious with a comfortable bed. Clean and well appointed with a decent size en suite. Plenty choice for breakfast to suit most tastes and freshly cooked. Staff were friendly and welcoming.
Review 85:Poor facilities for smokers, sky TV would be a advantage. Got internet eventually but couldn't ring from mobile phone from room or outside.
Review 86:Good service. Great shower, good size room. Great entertainment from Mine Host John. The entertainment from the resident rabbits in the back field was great.
Review 87:Evening meal-dissappointed with menu choices, food very average. TV reception-intermittent at best. No real reception desk.
Review 88:Bedroom-very comfortable,clean & modern,good shower & instant hot water. Location-very convenient for visiting Dorset.Quiet & picturesque. Breakfast-tasty well presented.
Review 89:slightly disappointed with presentation of item selected for dinner; steak and chips. Fat chips piled onto plate, far too many more like a pub bar meal than a 'good' restaurant plus steak was disappointing too, bit tough and gristly. Breakfast very good though!
Review 90:Comfortable room with windows that opened! Nice, modern bathroom; breakfast was lovely. Enjoyed chatting with other guests in the bar before and after dinner too even though the jukebox gave up the ghost! Good ambience and had a laugh. We stayed here for one night en route to Weymouth to catch the ferry to Guernsey the following morning.
Review 91:Free WiFi advertised but I was unable to get online at all. I think it's the whole area rather than the hotel though.
Review 92:Excellent service from friendly and interesting staff. It was a comfortable informal atmosphere. So close to the coast and other attractions. A lovely place to explore from.
Review 93:Sadly I think they had just employed a new chef, to whom the menu, which included a local cheese plate, was obviously a work in progress, although I wouldn't let this put me off going again. local cheese isn't Goats cheese, cheddar and stilton...
Review 94:The Hotel is pretty much as you see on the website and the room was fabulous with a great shower. Staff were brilliant
Review 95:We were very disappointed that when we returned on both evenings after being out to dine to find the hotel was disserted, reception and the bar were both closed and it was only 9.40 in the evening so we had no option but to retire to our room. I would say the room rate of £130.00 per night was a bit high considering.
Review 96:Food was very good, as was room, albeit up a very steep staircase which is not so good when you are getting on a bit.
Review 97:Maybe its us but we struggled to find the place as its a bit out of the way. Phone signal not good.
Review 98:We were greeted by a friendly face on arrival and showed to a very nice room in the hotel (there is also an annex). The bed was large and very comfy. Breakfast was v good, lovely place would visit again.
Review 99:We left on a Sunday and had to check out by 10am which was a bit of a rush as breakfast didn't finish until 10am.
Review 100:Good location for Swanage, comfortable room.
Review 101:There was not anything to dislike as far as I could see.
Review 102:Loved the bedroom, was very comfy, clean, and spacious. Breakfast was yummy. We only booked one night and would have liked to stay longer, if we didn't have to get back for work. Would recommend and return. Lovely little slide and swing outside for my toddler to play on.
Review 103:The hotel lacked any warmth or atmosphere. Staff were obliging but very thin on the ground. Waited in an empty reception for some time both at check in and check out - and the waitress who served breakfast also did the check out. We stayed in another hotel in the area which ticked all the boxes for the same price.
Review 104:The room was exceptionally spacious and spotlessly clean. The breakfast was good and the staff friendly.
Review 105:Lighting poor for shaving/make-up. Outside appearance a bit shabby with potholes in drive.
Review 106:Staff very attentive. Room well furnished and comfortable.
Review 107:just a few little things let them down from being perfect.Firstly toilet not working so should have changed rooms not just given key for other room.No milk was replaced in room so could not have cup of tea on second morning. And lastly at breakfast staff was rushing around but in no order ie 3 tables entered after us but where served before us,making us having to pack and leave while cleaner was in our room .
Review 108:stafff very friendly.
Review 109:Music was a little loud for me in the lounge bar area early evening and in the restaurant at breakfast. Probably wouldn't bother many people.
Review 110:The staff were helpful and very polite, the rooms were clean and spacious, food was very tasty with a good menu and a great choice at breakfast.
Review 111:food and drink far to expensive not a great deal to offer but what we hade was nice, above floor was very noisy waking us up early
Review 112:lovely stay quoet hotel was clean the surroundings were lovely room was wonderful with a huge bed which we loved adn room size was great
Review 113:Quite expensive for what you got. Room large and comfortable but not a lot of room in ensuite the toilet close to wall. We had poor Internet connection which for nowadays was necessary for seeing what was around the area.
Review 114:Breakfast was good and friendly staff.
Review 115:There was nothing to not like
Review 116:The staff were really accomodating and made us feel really welcome, the accomodation was clean and very comfortable, the food was of a very high standard with a varied choice to chose from
Review 117:The main house is in a poor state, needs a lot of work doing to it, knocking it down and starting again would be a good start. The photos of the bedrooms made them to look fabulous, they are not. The doona (duvet inUK) cover was grey not white from being washed a lot. Brushing all the cobwebs away from outside the annex rooms where we stayed would have made the place look loads better, also removing the big spiders web on the floor in the corner by the door would have also perhaps made us want to stay, but we left after 1 night. No decent fresh fruit at breakfast, the cooked stuff was fine. To my mind this should be rated 3 star, who on earth gave it 5 stars needs to gave a good look at it and reconsider.
Review 118:The wallpaper behind the bed was lovely and the curtains were nice.
Review 119:The train line not mentioned in the hotel details. Leaking roof. Breakfast was a disappointment not as good quality and out of date cereal.
Review 120:The warm welcome and prompt service. Evening meal.
Review 121:Lack of wifi (in area of appalling network coverage!) Closeness of main road (esp. disadvantageous at time when open windows in non-airconditioned rooms essential!) Lack of full hotel facilities despite positioning themselves as hotel while really being a guest house
Review 122:Friendliness of staff & their willingness to serve guests New rooms (as opposed to rooms in main house) Closeness to Wareham and ease of access to east Dorset Good food despite restricted menu change
Review 123:Rather cramped conditions in twin room in outside block. However a comfortable room.
Review 124:Size of double room in main house and facilities. Friendliness of all staff.
Review 125:We had an unfortunate start to our break. The owners were out and the person in charge knew nothing. We were not checked in and because we were late arriving because of 2 accidents on the motorway the lunch we had arranged was cancelled although there was no informtion about this and no apology. No information forthcoming about places to eat in the area either.
Review 126:The room.
Review 127:Nothing - it was all good.
Review 128:Everything. The staff (especially James and Carol) were brilliant. A three hour power cut could have ruined the evening but for the staff who went above and beyond the call of duty - driving into Wareham to get hot meals for the guests. When we were able to eat in the restaurant, the food was excellent. We have already booked for next year.
Review 129:Nothing. It was all great
Review 130:Excellent service, friendly and helpful.
Review 131:Very clean , friendly staff
Review 132:Size of room Meet and Great Willing to help with evening meals
Review 133:Everything was great
Review 134:The service and the attitude of the employees
Review 135:Everything including the super fast broadband.
Review 136:The incessant piped music was intrusive and, in my opinion lowered the quality of our stay.
Review 137:Excellent food. Attentive and helpful staff .
