Reviews for Cairndale Hotel And Leisure Club
Review 1:Although walls seemed solid, quite a bit of talk from nearby rooms audible. Breakfast coffee could be better - although otherwise very good. Evening meal was very good but would prefer wider choice. Would prefer a proper bar with some real ale etc.
Review 2:Very comfortable room and great leisure facilities. Excellent value for the price we paid. Staff pleasant and helpful.
Review 3:We had a small child and were put in a family room. We were woken up numerous times on the first night by guests at a wedding. They were slamming doors and running up and down corridor. Also when people ran water or had a shower there was loud pipe noises. Worse sleep at a hotel I've had. I spoke to the member of staff at reception the next day who told me I should of requested a quiet room when booking! Surely the hotel should show a little business savvy and know families are not going to want to be put beside people who are going to be getting in late and making a lot of noise. Re the pipes I was told it was an old building. I felt the building generally needed updating, wouldn't stay there again.
Review 4:Breakfast much poorer than in past.Only cereals and pastries to start no grapefruit etc.Horrible toast machines ,toast used to be delivered.Dumbed down and not a 3 star hotel breakfast
Review 5:room was freezing heating not put on till until we were checking out this was pointed out on leaving and we got a apology but that was not much use.
Review 6:staff very friendly and polite
Review 7:not bad but thought the breakfast fruit salad was not very good. would have been better as choice from individual containers.. my wife who did not want a cooked breakfast paid same price as full breakfast.
Review 8:Suffered from an asthma attack during the night. Only had this twice before and both times was down to dust. General décor had a very tired feel
Review 9:Food was ok
Review 10:we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in then cairndale and will definitely return, staff very helpful and friendly. also found the locals to be very helpful and made our stay very welcoming
Review 11:Arrived and had to argue the toss over breakfast as it was on the option when booking but not the confirmation. Room was stifling hot even in November with heating off and the windows wide open, overlooking the roof and air con eqpt which was noisy. Booked a double and got two twins pushed together, so had a crease mark down my body from the edge of two mattresses!
Review 12:Really hot and powerful shower and convenient parking. Trouser press, iron and ironing board are rare in most hotels these days.
Review 13:The leisure facilities were great especially as wed had an exhausting hike before we arrived, the food in the restaurant was excellent, the staff were very pleasant & helpful .
Review 14:Poor room which we had to vacate at 11pm due to noise from leisure centre pump room.Staff very good and moved us to a quiter room.
Review 15:The location,very central,near shops,pubs,good parking facilities.
Review 16:The staff are amazing! I've stayed in many hotels over the years but the staff here where the best yet. The children were made very welcome and we were able to take them to an Elvis tribute night then the next day we spent a great time in the pool, with the adults also enjoying the gym, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi - we all had a great time and would recommend to any type of party.
Review 17:Nothing.
Review 18:The receptionist on arrival could not have been more friendly and informative had she tried. The restaurant staff were polite and very efficient. The room was all you could ask for.
Review 19:Paid for 'premier' room - 307-got a family room which was miles away from reception ( got lost trying to find it twice) Dumfries isn't very nice. Hotel focuses very much on Cabaret/tribute nights
Review 20:The leisure pool was excellent and the breakfast very nice.
Review 21:We were put into a damp room with a very noisy air conditioning unit outside the window. The room emitted a very strong odour of rot, and we spent a very uncomfortable night in this dreadful room. Reception was extremely busy, we tried to complain that night, but staff were overcome by people checking in and appeared harassed. We made the mistake of not reporting it until the following morning to the manager, who appeared a little shocked on being told which room it was we had been put in. We changed rooms.
Review 22:Location
Review 23:Only a small thing the chairs in the hotel bar were not the most comfiest l have ever sat in ( and no I am not a big man )
Review 24:The staff were really friendly & nothing was to much trouble for them & the food was first class.
Review 25:Only thing I could fault it for was the breakfast I didn't really like that.
Review 26:I thought everything was perfect. Nice friendly staff nice size rooms pool was nice.
Review 27:Old creaky floorboards. I suppose that is part of the "charm" of an old building. If your room is in Park House it's quite a trek from reception through a maze of corridors and stairs. If you have trouble walking or with stairs ask for a room in the main building.
Review 28:Our allocated room was unsuitable but reception staff offered a more suitable room immediately. Breakfast was undoubtedly the best we have ever had, even better than the Hiltons!!! Local produce used.
Review 29:Access for disabled people difficult, could be rectified with a small ramp. Not enough disabled parking spaces. Restaurant meals quite expensive. A menu with lighter options would be enjoyable.
Review 30:Comfortable and clean hotel. Good choice at breakfast. Pets welcomed with no problem.
Review 31:The whole experience of staying at this hotel was top notch. The staff were both friendly and professional. The breakfasts and evening meals superb.
Review 32:I was there for Jeff Grindall Soul night & I had booked well in advance, early July. Was then advised to mention that discount was avail to those on that night, called hotel 3 days before event to confirm & left message but no reply. On checking in was advised no discount due, very disappointed.
Review 33:Large bed was great
Review 34:Breakfast is very disorganised, food was not plentiful, no obvious way round the breakfast bar, people arriving there from all angles. Worst set up I have experienced and a bad start to the day, the whole reason for staying over and breakfast is to start the day off on a positive note?
Review 35:Not an awful lot. location was fine
Review 36:Room was quite small but had no air conditioning and was extremely warm even with window open. Bar area very small.
Review 37:Location and pool/leisure facilties.
Review 38:We arrived quite late, after the kitchen had closed but staff went out of their way & opened the breakfast room for us to have something. Very much appreciated.
Review 39:To warm in our room day and night The breakfast wasn't included but I had thought I'd paid for this in the price I'd agreed on Value for money so so
Review 40:The area
Review 41:The windows in the room let in a draught and too much noise. The buffet breakfast was minimal, we had to ask for more to be cooked. The crockery was dirty and the staff were too intent on tidying up and clearing away the tables for lunch or dinner service. We were uncomfortable eating as we felt we were just 'in the way'
Review 42:The facilities pool -jacuzzi were good.
Review 43:The hotel is old and tired. The rooms, whilst clean, were slightly damp and smelled musty. The bar is small and poorly stocked. Why charge extra for a dog? She had her own bed, didn't eat breakfast, didn't use any facilities and didn't untidy anything. Seemed like a money gouging excercise.
Review 44:The staff were pleasant, the buffet breakfast was convenient though some of the food overlooked or dried out as a result of being on the buffet bar too long. My son appreciated the good quality wifi and my wife and daughter thought the swimming pool was enjoyable.
Review 45:Only very small side, restaurants staff could do with been a little more helpful relating to the food menu that is all
Review 46:Leisure side was fantastic bonus, nice food, wifi perfect. Great hotel
Review 47:Having to walk long distance from rear car park all the way round to front entrance. 2 single beds together rather than a proper double or king size bed - poor. Very squeaky floors.
Review 48:This is just a personal thing, I cant sleep in a single bed. Most times I am in a single room with a three quarter bed, this time it was a single and I didn't sleep well.
Review 49:Attentive staff Great breakfast Convenient base for many local attractions Health club facilities
Review 50:We arrived after midnight for a one night stay, so didn't have time to use the leisure facilities - which looked great.
Review 51:24 hour reception, late check out and breakfast.
Review 52:Staff were very friendly and pleasent. Room very clean and roomy. Breakfast was beautiful everything freshly cooked and good selection. staff very helpful.
Review 53:Did not like how the pool was in view of the bar- more private please!
Review 54:Rooms were fantastic and the shower excellent. The facilities were great and accessible to all. A fab hotel.
Review 55:Not a bad experience, but the room was extremely hot making it difficult to sleep. Dinner the first night could have been better but was certainly edible.
Review 56:Good location. Shower room well appointed and very clean. Very good choice at breakfast.
Review 57:We were disappointed with the standard of television it was more than a bit dated compared to the the hotels overall excellence. The wi fi connection was terribly poor & we were unable to use it.
Review 58:My Daughter and I were put in room 25 , very noisy as everyone walks past this area , people were stopping by the door and talking after a few beers became very noisy, , TV on in reception area at night could hear every word as right below out room. ended up purchasing ear plugs. would stay again but definitely not in that room or any other by door way.
Review 59:Web site said there would be fresh fruit in room but nothing there. Neede s map to find our room.
Review 60:Location and breakfast room was okay and quiet. Great bed ,
Review 61:When we arrived we were given a double room, although I had booked a twin (travelling with my grandaughter). Reception gave us another room. We had requested a table for dinner at 7pm, when booking online. When we came down for dinner there was no booking noted. When using the leisure facilities, the locks on the changing cubicles were all broken. Overall, the hotel gave the impression of being in need of a bit of TLC.
Review 62:Staff were friendly and helpful. Restaurant food was good. Our room was comfortable and spacious.
Review 63:Room key bigger than handbag! Some of fixtures in room were tired but still worked _ taps moved;blind and wallpaper milldewed.
Review 64:This was a local hotel to us so would not normally stay at but it was convenient not to have to drive home. Reception staff very friendly and offered information without having to ask on facilities and hotel timings. Felt like a good family run hotel that cared.
Review 65:I can not think off one thing that I did not like.
Review 66:The location of the hotel is in good walking distance from the trainstation, 5 mins, and 10 mins from the town. On arrival we were greetedby a friendly desk clerk who asked us if our journey was alrightgetting there, she then asked if we needed anything taking to theroom, explained about evening meal and breakfast times and showed uswhere we needed to go. On collection of our key she showed us where toget the lift and which floor and if we needed anything during our staythen to ask at the desk anytime day or night and finally wished us apleasant stay. We found our room very satisfaction, warm, pleasant andclean. We did not attend any evening meals due to timings didn'twork out as we were there for the skating event that weekend. Everytime we left the hotel we were asked each time if everything wasalright with our stay, which I found was a very nice gesture and goodcustomer services. We did have breakfast for the three days and whatan excellent service we received, from being greeted with a goodmorning and being shown to a table and beining asked what would welike to drink, to the excellent food. All the staff from desk clerk, waiter/waitress and house keepers should be commended on good customer service. I can not show my gratitude enough to how they made us feel very welcome, nothing was too much trouble, even down to a nod of the head, a smile and greeting every day. Thank you for making our journey and stay at the Cairndale a pleasurable one and i for one will defiantly be returning and will be recommending the Cairndale to friends and family. Regards Debbie Grimwood
Review 67:Route into town from hotel a bit tired and run down but not much the hoteliers can do about that. Otherwise fine.
Review 68:Old fashioned but well maintained. Staff quiet, mannerly and efficient.
Review 69:No fault of staff, but had a herd of elephants above me, so squeaky floorboard until late!
Review 70:I always get good service from staff Dougie on reception is a great source of information. I always enjoy my post pool drink in the café while catching up on the papers.
Review 71:Poor TV. Hotel rooms have poor sound isolation. Only a few parking spaces
Review 72:Nice facilities, good breakfast. Friendly staff and good location. They are trying to make an old hotel keep up with the times and even make it better. It gives the hotel charm. Do not expect an Ibis clone hotel
Review 73:A day before we arrived at the hotel they contacted me to ask if we were thinking of having a meal on our stay , but they said the restaurant was being used for a reunion party. So we phoned all the restaurants in Dumfries but they were all booked up, we had to travel 17 miles to find somewhere to eat, and the weather conditions was so bad with snow. The hotel should have informed me days before hand for us to make a decision to book in advance for a meal or to find another hotel
Review 74:The room was lovely and spacious bed very comfy huge T.V great, breakfast nice.
Review 75:Absolutely no complaints
Review 76:Everything on our short stay was better than satisfactory. If we are ever in Dumfries again we will likely stay with you again.
Review 77:One handle of wardrobe missing. Other handle broken. Had to either open door with difficulty or leave it open. Reception staff not overly friendly.
Review 78:Enjoyed pool, jacuzzi and gym. Lovely restaurant staff.
Review 79:Hotel was quite at night but could hear everything from next door! Thought they were having a conversation with us!
Review 80:Didn't use facilities as had other plans- breakfast very nice!
Review 81:View from bedroom, we overlooked the back of hotel where all the rubbish and junk was collected.
Review 82:Staff were brilliant even called our room after we'd checked in to make sure everything was ok. Lovely spa centre and gym, very relaxing. Good food.
Review 83:There were too many rooms in a confined space so you could hear people stomping around till all hours, especially inview of the creaky floorboards. I got room 23 on the first floor landing. I was disturbed by the booming voice of the reception guy at 6am and by the maid hoovering the carpets at 6.30am. Do not stay here if you want a good night's sleep!
Review 84:Good breakfast.
Review 85:The noisy air con unit outside our room The waiting around to check into the busy pool area, and the pound deposit on a towel The complete lack of vegetarian food in bar or restaurant, unless you want a cheese pie
Review 86:Comfortable bed Good wifi Hassle free parking Swimming pool and sauna
Review 87:Room was furthest point from reception, windows were high on wall, couldn't see out, heating wasn't working, TV picture was poor, band played loudly all evening. We complained and got a different room second night which was ok but no fruit or water.
Review 88:Breakfast was ok
Review 89:Choice of deserts on a la carte menu was not great. The 'not so fancy' bar menu was not available, only a la carte or kids menu on the night we stayed. But food we had was really really nice.
Review 90:Great location in Dumfries, not far from lots of shops and cinema. Swimming pool. All staff were extremely friendly, polite and very helpful. Room was quite large and really clean. Food was really good quality (a la carte menu and kids meals). A la carte starter and main i had were both beautiful. A fantastic hotel, will be back!!
Review 91:Food, I found menu in Reivers uninteresting and dull. Edible just. I would not want to eat there again. Passed on comments to waiter. Ate out on third night. As I left room on check out was told room was empty then ordered to leave door open. Not Impressed.
Review 92:Staff Breakfast
Review 93:arrived for breakfast 9.15 - 9.30 was told the breakfast buffet was finish and that waitress would take our order it would be done fresh in the kitchen.food arrived stone cold.second serving was just microwaved.we left dining room and breakfast.on the sunday we had breakfast in the town!
Review 94:central with good parking.
Review 95:The leisure facilities are an added bonus here. The beds are comfortable and the room had hairdryer ironing board iron trouser press amongst its facilities. The position is convenient for town centre.
Review 96:Very helpful & friendly staff Bedroom good size, large bed, clean Restaurant food excellent with special offer for hotel guests service was very quick
Review 97:Room distant from reception and only exit door, numerous fire doors and st airs. Lift unreliable Room 52 above function suite .Should not be booked when Weddings are on. Noise impossible, had to be moved, very inconvenient.Poor front desk.
Review 98:Staff excellent.Dinner and breakfast excellent.
Review 99:The room was quite far away down a rabbit warren corridor but This was a minor thing and added to the novelty . Very nice overall
Review 100:We had a fabulous stay in this hotel. Everything About it was well done. We had a lovely room with a 4 poster bed and very comfy mattress. Service was of a very high standard in the restaraunt (John). The reception staff (heather) were also very welcoming and accommodating. Definitely would come back.
Review 101:room was a bit cramped maybe because we were next to stair case
Review 102:location very good for town centre - 5 mins. walk leisure centre very good - well worth using.
Review 103:The 4-course meal in the restaurant was served in 45 minutes with one course following so quickly on the next it was hard to keep up. The room was 2 floors above the function room and it was impossible to sleep before midnight. In the bar (serving warm beer) you could enjoy 2 DIFFERENT live bands at the same time
Review 104:The staff at breakfast were very efficient and friendly.
Review 105:The mattress was in a poor state and needs to be replaced ASAP this was disappointing as there was little else we could complain about, only other thing was the cushion covers placed on the bed could be done with a wash
Review 106:The Bathroom in the room was very nice, clean and fresh, the food was excellent with an amazing selection at breakfast, best prunes we have tasted !! staff were very friendly, leisure facilities were great
Review 107:Our room (8) although large and well appointed had an unpleasant smell (which we expect came from the leisure centre or kitchens). Also the beds had a protective plastic sheet on under the bottom sheet which meant the bed got very hot, sweaty & so uncomfortable it meant we had a poor nights sleep.
Review 108:Very welcoming staff, always cheerful, friendly & helpful - service with a smile.
Review 109:Location great. Room lovely, recently refurbished I think! Staff helpful and pleasant. Didn't eat in the restaurant in the evening, however, the breakfast was more than adequate.
Review 110:We thought we were getting breakfast included unfortunately we did not however they gave us a discount which was good.
Review 111:Staff were great, room was very clean.
Review 112:The bath could do with upgrading
Review 113:staff were very friendly Room was clean and a good size leisure facilities very good breakfast was good good location within walking distance of town car parking was good
Review 114:The TV was poor in the room and the reception for some programs were missing.
Review 115:The spa facilities were Excellent, the food in the Rievers Restaurant was Excellent, Excellent customer service on arrival, during and on leaving.
Review 116:Nothing at all.
Review 117:Staff very helpful. Room excellent with free bottles of water, separate bath and shower and very comfortable bed. The bar has a balcony off where you can smoke - much appreciated by the two smokers in our party. We didn't use the Leisure Club facilities as we only stayed one night but their presence added to the "value for money" aspect.
Review 118:There was a motor ran outside our bedroom window, all night, I don't know if it was a freezer or air conditioning unit, but it certainly kept us awake for most of the night.
Review 119:The staff were very welcoming and helpfull.
Review 120:Lighting in dining area was very bright. Felt like we're eating under spotlight rather than a relaxed evening meal.
Review 121:Staff was real friendly and helpful. Good size room and en suite.
Review 122:Nothing to complain about really.
Review 123:Location very good, for that reason have stayed many times before. Free Parking. Breakfast very good. Staff very friendly. Sometimes entertainment provided. Rooms comfortable.
Review 124:floorboards in room very squeaky which was annoying especially coming from the room above
Review 125:meal in restaurant was lovely though not a big menu. Staff all fantastic friendly and helpful
Review 126:Hotel location excellent near to town , food was first class and staff all very friendly and helpful. An ideal spot for a weekend break with good leisure facilities in the hotel .
Review 127:A door from the rear to the car park would be handy
Review 128:Excellent location if wanting to see Dumfries. We were on our way north, it was a good hotel to stay in and we will be back in Sept for a wedding.
Review 129:They want you to pay for the room when you check in or before you see it, this avoids you leaving to find better acomodation.
Review 130:Checking out
Review 131:Staff were all so friendly and helpful.
Review 132:Leisure club facilities ie:locker Rooms showers need renewed
