Reviews for Springfield Country Hotel, Leisure Club & Spa
Review 1:The hotel is shabby. Carpets look like they haven't been replaced in 15 years and once past the entrance area, the whole hotel is equally poor. The pool area is disappointing. Changing rooms are old and look like a council facility in need of repair. The jacuzzi had gaping holes in the side. The rooms were tiny, barely had room to walk round the bed and cases had to block the path round the bed. Pictures are misleading and at £128 per room on a Thursday night, the hotel is vastly over priced. It warrant no more than £85 per room per night. The lounge areas are like stepping back 20 years. Poor, underwhelming and disappointing are the key words to summarise. We didn't risk dinner or breakfast as we expected the standard to be similar so what should have been a relaxing stay in a lovely hotel became using it as a base and heading out. Don't pay this money for it.
Review 2:The entrance looks good but gives the impression of a far more impressive hotel.
Review 3:Whole place feels a little tired and in need of a spruce up. What were obviously once good facilities are let down by dated decor, many light bulbs out, slightly tatty appearance not in keeping with the price.
Review 4:Fabulous location and beautiful gardens, very peaceful yet easy to find and convenient for Wareham, Poole, Corfe, Studland. Grounds very well maintained.
Review 5:Dirty plates left outside after lunch/tea for at least 2 hours even though only 2 other guests around. Bar was closed at 6.30pm on a Saturday night! Only quarter bottles of wine available - very motorway service station... yuck!
Review 6:Overpriced for one nights stay without breakfast. Having said that, for the positive aspects I'd stay again.
Review 7:Location, Facilities, Grounds of hotel, Friendly staff.
Review 8:Lack of communication, very dated needs modernising, beds too small certainly expected more from my £168 per night for the room I had. Tried to book a massage for the Saturday to find that the therapist wasn't working for weekend which is not good considering these options are there!
Review 9:Some of the staff were friendly and helpful, good location
Review 10:I booked the Springfield for my partners parents 70th birthday they said "the grounds were beautiful, the hotel room with the balcony was perfect for sitting and catching a tan, the evening meal they booked was yummy and they enjoyed the evening relaxing in the spa.
Review 11:We thought that the cost of the superior room should have included breakfast, but were very happy with everything else
Review 12:Good customer service, convenient location
Review 13:We have no negative comments to make about our stay here.
Review 14:We cannot fault this hotel at all, our stay was excellent in every way. Possibly the best room we have ever had in any hotel (room 344), the restaurant is good, the food superb and the service is also top notch. The young ladies on reception were very helpful. The leisure club and especially the outdoor pool were a real bonus. Perfect for the Jurassic coast, Lulworth cove, Monkey World and the surrounding areas. This is a great hotel in our experience.
Review 15:I had breakfast at 7.45. Not late. Very little left of the hot breakfast except a sad, hard, poached egg, sausages and bacon. Mushrooms watery.
Review 16:I loved the grounds, the two pools and the peace. Lovely staff as well. The dinner was very good.
Review 17:We liked the large lounge spaces with comfy sofas. We ate in the restaurant in the evening and had a very good meal. Standard ground floor bedroom needed an armchair.
Review 18:Only bad thing was the weather. Could not fault the hotel. Previous reviews have said hotel is tired, hotel is tired but this is being addressed. New reception area has been built since our last visit and further works are planned. Don't let this put you off.
Review 19:Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door, Sandbanks, 20 to 30 minutes drive. Perfect base for these beautiful places with the plus of having good leisure facilities in case of bad weather. Indoor and outdoor pool. Excellent food. Staff friendly and helpful. This is our 2nd time here and will definitely be back. I would recommend the executive rooms.
Review 20:1.Rooms are small and doors in room couldn't close. 2.I wish they could offer buffet on breakfast 3. Jacuzzi needs attention
Review 21:Very good and quiet location
Review 22:The room was very hot with no aircon, luckily we took our own fan. There is no mirror within reaching distance of a hair dryer? Half the hotel is extremely dated, they seem to be refurbishing the hotel although we weren't made aware when we booked. Breakfast isn't included via Booking.Com & was £12 pm extra. The Spa facilities were very dated, broken and not appealing at all. We went for half an hr but didn't bother again during our stay. Our first room was awful with dated peeling borders & wallpaper, no bath & up an out a hundred, wobbly old back stairs! We have stayed in far better hotels for £128 per night.
Review 23:The grounds are lovely. Our upgraded Superior Room was comfortable and large. The new Reception is impressive. There is a lift to the new part of the Hotel.
Review 24:Dined in the restaurant for evening meal ordered a lamb shank was not cooked so sent it back had too wait my husband had finished his before mine came had to wait for fresh vegetables no mature staff all young no experience not their fault . There was a few complaints seemed to be very expensive for menu choice
Review 25:Friendly staff beautiful group gardens and peaceful location
Review 26:Hotel is quite old fashioned!, there is no lift to the upper floors so you will have to carry your luggage up flights of tiny stairs yourself. We had to wait an extra 20mins to get in our room. Breakfast wasn't included! Although I had an email from the hotel saying breakfast included in the price, so I had to pay an extra £28 for me and my young son, which we hardly ate as the scrambled eggs came out soggy cooked in what I presumed butter! Very strange, the coffee was cold. No one around in the spa changing rooms! There was no locker keys for our belongings to be kept safe, the Jacquzzi was nice apart from the slates on the side top were missing. The room was average an old shower which isn't very powerful and the bed wasn't that comfortable, there is no mini fridge to store milk or water. Our view was the carpark. The area is rural there is honestly not much around to see you have to drive out, the Wareham town is tiny a few restaurants on the riverside but pricey.
Review 27:Around 15/20 mins drive to Monkey World! Not 5 mins around the corner like it says on there website! The swimming pool nice.
Review 28:Request for room service at 8:45 to clean room. That is before breakfast is finished. Ridiculous. Miserable breakfast staff. Tough bacon, measly egg.
Review 29:My friend's bed wasn't comfortable. It was a single, the headboard was loose and the mattress had some sort of plastic material covering it which caused a lot of rustling when she moved and was hot.
Review 30:Good location for the coast. Staff very helpful.
Review 31:Some bits looked untidy or run down - brolleys left on the floor outside the front of the hotel, hole in wall on 1st squash court, missing facia in swimming pool and broken plastic slats to jacuzzi overflow covering. The information booklet was out of date - menu inside was not correct, also stated guest supplement for activities was £2.50. It was actually £15/£10 for adult/child when I checked this before inviting friends for a swim.
Review 32:Evening meal was very good quality and loved the fancy mini jacket potatoes. Good sized room with huge bed, bath and separate shower.
Review 33:Because I booked through booking.com breakfast was not included, I was not aware of this and wouldn't have had it if i knew it wasn't included. It was also £5 a pint in the bar!
Review 34:The hotel staff were very friendly and the spa was lovely
Review 35:For the cost which did not even include breakfast was not good value, looked like it catered more for the company sales people.
Review 36:Facilities were good requested a twin room but did not get and the hotel staff said they could not change it.
Review 37:The poor state of the carpets, power sockets hanging from the ceiling in the hallway, trip hazards due to holes on the carpets, poor state of paintwork, very thin walls with inadequate sound proofing, breakfast was at extra cost, a manager with little interest for customer satisfaction.
Review 38:The staff (with the exception of the manager) were courteous, the quality of the food was good.
Review 39:I think the general areas of the hotel (dinning room, bar) need updating , and some of the outdoor areas need sorting for example the seating area near the pool.
Review 40:The staff were helpful and friendly, our room was clean and the bed was lovely! We had an evening meal at the hotel which was delightful , and the breakfast was nice and included a wide variety of choices which we enjoyed.
Review 41:I didn't like the fact I was in a room which had wallpaper peeling off the walls, the border in the room was also peeling.. The jacuzzi was also a bit dated with broken grills etc.. For the price I paid (200+ plus for two nights) I expected it to be a bit more refined..
Review 42:I liked the option of being able to wake up and go to the gym and for a swim..
Review 43:Check in problem. No record of our booking. When it was found the next day it was for 3 nights instead of one. Sorted out quickly by lovely staff.
Review 44:Great Breakfast and friendly staff
Review 45:A refurb programme has started but the whole hotel needs a lot of money spent and when done originally it would not have been to everyone's taste.
Review 46:Good parking and good food with friendly staff
Review 47:Dated, Spa facilities in poor condition, staff noisy outside rooms at 7 o'clock on a Sunday, terrible breakfast, overpriced breakfast.
Review 48:Helpful but slightly robotic staff, excellent wifi.
Review 49:the food was appalling in the restaurant, vegetables were not fresh at all and the Cook was really not puting any efforts given the output. Products looked like tinned supermarket food and wine was really poor. The Restaurant manager was rude and dismissive and we were pressed to finish our dinner without being asked if we wanted any dessert. Breakfast was also very poor quality despite staff was a bit more friendly. Spa facility is old and some obvious thing were left broken in sauna and jacuzzi - clearly a careless management.
Review 50:room, bedroom location
Review 51:hot water in cold water tap very poor staff spa is sparse and lots of things not working in there no hotel manager available and wont be available for 8 days
Review 52:nothing
Review 53:The place if looking some what tired, thread bare carpets. We were not impressed with the attitude of one of the waiting staff a breakfast, all the others great.
Review 54:The hotel has a wonderful feeling of space. Most of the staff were extreamly helpful and polite. Good facilities.
Review 55:A few negatives: the hotel is undergoing refurbishment, so the view was of building works, tools and supplies directly outside the window. Also, the room we were allocated was in a wing with no lift, which wasn't stated at booking or arrival. But the main negative was that our room was in serious need of redecoration and refurbishment, it had very dirty wallpaper and paper borders which were discoloured and filthy and peeling off the walls, very noisy wardrobe doors and equally noisy bathroom door. The bathroom fittings (mirror, cabinet etc.) were fitted on the wall at such a height you would seriously need to be over 6ft tall to use them - at 5ft 1inch, I could not even reach the cupboard shelf or light, nor see in the bathroom mirror! Overall, we would definitely stay here again, but would ensure we requested a different room, with clean walls, a lift, a bathroom with useable fittings, and no building works outside. We also felt that the price for the poor quality of decor and fittings in the room we were given was rather expensive, especially when even a basic continental breakfast was not included
Review 56:Excellent location and quiet hotel with Spa and indoor pool etc. One of the most comfortable beds ever slept in! Friendly reception staff. There were some negatives, but overall, we would definitely stay here again, but would ensure we requested a different room.
Review 57:The hotel states it is pet fridndly, however my dog was only permitted in the bedroom. No where else in hotel or gardens. Which meant we had to order bar snack and drinks in our room at a high room service fee.
Review 58:The staff were very friendly and went the extra mile after I had left an item in my room. On my request they posted the item on to me.
Review 59:The bar always seemed very quiet, but only because there is so much to do and keep you occupied!
Review 60:It was peaceful, relaxing and quiet. The gym and swimming pool were lovely and despite the weather the location was perfect, just a stones throw from corfe Castle.
Review 61:Old fashioned. Superior double room had only one chair. No selection of toiletries. Sheet and blankets where a duvet would be better. Breakfast also dated and fruit was tinned not fresh. No fresh pastries at breakfast.
Review 62:The hotel felt like it was closed, we only saw one other guest and whole areas were closed off, dark and quiet. The bathroom had obviously been refurbished but everything thing else had clearly not been touched since the early 90's. The spa should have been a nice relaxing place, instead the hot tub had bits broken off it and the big glass dome it sits under is a bit grimy! Definitely not worth the price they charge to stay.
Review 63:The lady on reception was an absolute star, so happy and chirpy. Without her it would be a very depressing place.
Review 64:Although the website states breakfast included in price of room, this does not apply when a booking is made online. This was not made clear when our booking was made with Booking.com
Review 65:The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful and the general atmosphere was warm and welcoming which was especially welcome in the circumstances
Review 66:The breakfast was ok but the Bacon tasted rather odd, I think the waiting staff could do with a bit of training, they made us feel guilty for sitting down and I was served a Cappuchino in a Tea Pot!
Review 67:A lovely rural location, not far from Wareham town centre but far enough to be lovely and peaceful. We had a very nice convenient room with direct car park access for our Dog.
Review 68:It seems to be in the process of transition from a rather dowdy and dated country club to a smart spa hotel
Review 69:Peace and quiet. The surrounding countryside is beautiful.
Review 70:Room overlooked building works - noise. Steam room out of order. Broken and cracked glazing to several windows. Parking outside hotel tight for larger cars. Found that if we'd hotel booked direct, breakfast would have been included for same cost.
Review 71:Location. Pool and other facilities quite good.
Review 72:The bedding method of sheets and blankets was dated and uncomfortable. The pillows were flat and uncomfortable. Sleep is a major factor when travelling, so we were dissatisfied.
Review 73:The location and staff attitude was exceptional.
Review 74:We went for a long weekend for our wedding anniversary and my wife's birthday. Nice large room with decent views of garden and outdoor pool.Bathroom nice and spacious. Bed very comfy . Room was clean with daily cleaning . Will definitely return next year.
Review 75:One 'superior' staff member at breakfast was a bit off hand to her staff. Thought any problems should have been dealt with away from front of house. I wouldn't have worked for her!
Review 76:Found staff very friendly, good welcome. We forgot a few items and these were forwarded on promptly. We are very grateful. Excellent location, we had terrible weather the leisure club rescued our holiday!
Review 77:At certain times, lots of noisy children and their verbose parents dashing in and out to swimming sessions. Better if they, as non-guests, entered by a different route to guests trying to converse or enjoy a quiet drink in the lounge.
Review 78:Staff very helpful and informal. Location: remote enough to be quiet but near enough to local amenities. Adequate car park. room was well appointed.
Review 79:The very tiny bar. I also left a phone charger in the bedroom and it would of been great if someone had telephoned me when it was found as I was in the area all day. Instead I had to chase this up, buy a new charger and wait for it to be posted to me.
Review 80:The Pool and leisure club
Review 81:The price of breakfast was £12 for continental only! We didn't bother and had a delicious cooked breakfast for half the price in Wareham.
Review 82:Swimming pool and gym
Review 83:Very tight car park for vans food very expensive £17 for breakfast
Review 84:Nice location hotel very clean considering all the building work did not use the leisure club or spa
Review 85:I had a yogurt, a piece of fruit and a coffee and was charged for a full English.
Review 86:The room was to the highest standard I have ever seen in 12 years of living in hotels. The view from the balcony was a great way to unwind after a busy day. Was treated very well by the receptionist. The Restaurant serves some called a "snack size" on the menu. I have had meals in other hotels that were far smaller than the "snack" meal I had. Great value for money.
Review 87:The hotel is a bit tired and in need of updating, work was in the middle of being carried out in the grounds, however inside could do with some refurbishment. Our bed wasn't very comfortable and the room a bit dusty when we arrived
Review 88:Spa area fantastic, good service in the restaurant and bar, fabulous views from our balcony and couldn't fault the location for access to all the places we wanted to visit while staying in Dorset
Review 89:Tried to charge for breakfasts we hadn't eaten but were more than happy to remove these
Review 90:Good pools and leisure facilities Close to Wareham and local beaches by car
Review 91:The staff were very friendly and kept my pregnant daughter in law supplied with a steady supply of milk, at all sorts of hours in the day or night. We were really impressed with the rooms, which were spacious, clean and very comfortable.
Review 92:the hotel is under renovation, there was no atmosphere in the hotel and the food is just average for the price.
Review 93:the staff are friendly and helpful. The location was good for what i intend to to in the area.
Review 94:Very tired hotel some of it needs updating and painting. We were put in a lodge away from the hotel which meant a walk up a long drive for breakfast in the rain. The room reminded me of a lodge in Center Parcs and although clean there appeared to be a short on the electrics when raining which caused the bedroom light to stay on all night and couldn't be turned off. It shut the outside lights off so you count see where you were going. There were beetles visiting the room and had to be throw out. The bathroom was far too small and we had to towel in the bedroom but the shower was so poor we resulted in showering in the Spar changing rooms. WiFi was advertised but again to get it we had to walk to the hotel to get a signal. They forgot to order my papers twice and as there was a wedding at the weekend it was chaos in the dining room on Sunday morning in fact some residents were asked to eat in the lounge. Maybe the experience would have been better if we had rooms in the hotel Not what I paid for and will not be returning
Review 95:Location was good and we were able to get to other places easily. Set in a country area away from traffic. The Spar facilities good but some need replacing with new equipment. The staff were friendly especially the man who appeared to be looking after the maintenance of the hotel, but he need help.
Review 96:Being told breakfast buffet was being topped up and then advised there were no sausages or fried eggs left. No sign on leisure reception to tell us to use hotel reception for service.
Review 97:The room were lovely. Reception staff were good.
Review 98:When we walked through the main entrance and found everywhere boarded up we honestly thought we had been scammed and that the place had gone out of business. We'd paid extra for an 'executive room with private balcony looking out over beautifully landscaped gardens'.What we got was a room stuffed with old tatty furniture with decor that hasn't seen an upgrade in years with an unusable balcony looking out over a building site! I was charged for breakfast I didn't have and when I pointed out that given the dirty condition of the room - presenting evidence on a cloth - why would I eat from their kitchen I was met with a tut! Given that I stayed at the height of the season and it was completely deserted says it all. To be selling rooms based on what the place may well have been like 20 years ago and may well be again in 20 years time is just plain wrong!
Review 99:It is in a beautiful part of Dorset! Nothing more than that. Oh, to be fair, the bathroom was big...
Review 100:Food a bit microwave/fryer heavy steak was certainly grey, I think microwaved from frozen but veg were ok
Review 101:Friendly staff Room clean water hot Breakfast mainly ok but not includedin room rate
Review 102:Standard double room quite small. Decor dated - but all kept very clean, so less of a problem. Would have liked a larger bed. Room very hot but ground floor, so only able to have window on vent rather than open. Overall, problems were small and we would still stay here again.
Review 103:Indoor pool and heated outdoor pool. Very attentive and helpful staff. Good base from which to explore area. Large garden.
Review 104:Restaurant food has a little room for improvement.
Review 105:Friendly and welcoming hotel with good facilities and helpful staff. The location was good and provided a useful base for exploring the south coast and Purbeck area. A very relaxing week.
Review 106:The decor was very dated. The breakfast was disgusting, the beds were uncomfortable. The rubbish men emptied the glass bottle bin at stupid o'clock in the morning..... staff werent very welcoming at breakfast. Only saving grace really was polite receptionists. Hotel has alot to learn!
Review 107:Breakfast time on Sunday could be extended till 11. Also more air conditioning in upper rooms when temperatures are very hot
Review 108:Helpful staff and outdoor pool very relaxing - bar food good
Review 109:VERY TIRED FACILITIES WITH POTENTIAL TO BE SO MUCH BETTER
Review 110:LOCATION
Review 111:Awful condition of decor in the room. Cost of breakfast is £12.50 each if booked thru booking.com
Review 112:The grounds of the hotel & pool
Review 113:Everything,
Review 114:Quiet country location, good links to all the places we wanted to visit in Dorset.
Review 115:Needs some TLC in places an updating,
Review 116:Nice facilities, lovely staff,
Review 117:Over priced average food & out dated
Review 118:The grounds
Review 119:local taxi not arriving
Review 120:lovely grounds and staff
Review 121:A very comfortable room.
Review 122:Sign is same colour as the tree behind it.
Review 123:Bit dated
Review 124:Comfy beds clean tidy hotel ok all round
Review 125:Hard bed noise fan all night
Review 126:Loads of staff doing little
Review 127:Water from the coldwater tap was slow
Review 128:The staff
Review 129:The bed was a bit hard
Review 130:Friendly staff the facilities were very good and breakfast was ok
Review 131:We had to pay for breakfast due to not booking direct with hotel, which was £25 per couple. So ate outside the hotel.
Review 132:Decor needs updating
Review 133:Spa facilitiez
Review 134:Every thing was so peaceful
