Reviews for Wherry Hotel
Review 1:The junior suite that we had booked (for the grandparents) was supposed to have a sea view-but it does not, so should not be advertised as this. There is a bar that closes in the early hours of the morning nearby and if your room is on that side of the hotel the noise from people leaving wakes you up-but this is not the hotel's fault.
Review 2:The staff were very friendly and helpful from the start when the booking was first made, and they were happy for our dog to stay. We ate at the Wherry in the evening and the food was very good. Nice spot to stay for a night or 2.
Review 3:That we should have come in the summer. Other than that no quarms at all
Review 4:Lovely location, superb view, friendly staff. Really couldn't ask for any more
Review 5:Restaurant rather poor, however it was not expensive. Staff rather inattentive being more interested in conversations amongst themselves. Most pleasant were the cleaning staff who always had a ready smile
Review 6:The room was lovely with a splendid view.
Review 7:The weather lol but it was January after all.
Review 8:The hotel is lovely, we had a great view from our room.. The staff couldn't do enough for you. Will go again in the summer.
Review 9:Booked double room but it's likely to be single for that size. Same with bed, normal double and not large as stated. Toilet wasn't flushing good. The worst was food- roast was absolutely inedible same with English breakfast and also drinks... All in all hotel felt like a maze, lack of signs.
Review 10:Friendly staff, nice location
Review 11:Haven't had a bad experience
Review 12:We have stayed here many times, and find the staff very friendly and nothing is to much trouble, have dined in the restaurant, food is Good and greatvalue for money
Review 13:Breakfast could be better as all items stored in hot bins with dry hard eggs, sausages etc. Only fresh fruit available were dry flowery apples
Review 14:Large comfortable room with sofa good TV and good bathroom
Review 15:On the first trip, left standing at the reception as receptionist was not able to retrieve booking info. No apology for delay was offered. On second trip, was left standing at reception for around 5 minutes or more, as there was no one at reception. Cleanliness of room was always poor.
Review 16:Nothing.
Review 17:Lovely location overlooking the Broads, really friendly welcome from the staff, very pleasant room and really good value. Although I only had a beef baguette and chips in the bar, it was really enjoyable.
Review 18:Room was adequate, clean enough but very small, no full length mirror, very dim with all lighting turned on, complimentary bottles of water would have been nice, totally overpriced at £113 for the night...poor value.
Review 19:Location was fine as were attending function at hotel, staff were very friendly and efficient, bathroom was large with good shower,
Review 20:The room throbbed to the sound of a disc until 1am!! I phoned at 12.30k to ask when it would stop and they did say they would ask the DJ to turn it down a bit. In the morning when we left the staff didn't say 'how was your stay?' or any of the other things you might expect which was quite rude really. I didn't bring up the noise with them so expected to be treated as a potential returning customer.
Review 21:The room and setting were beautiful. The food in the restaurant was very nice.
Review 22:Sorry wrong way round.. The location and food are v good
Review 23:I didn't like reception staff particularly Sam.she was very rude tome.l was left very shaky after she called the manager and tried to say lwas being awkward..Lady serving tea at breakfast was rather sharpalso.manager wad very pleasant. .More training for recetion staffdefinately. Sam may be better cleaning the toilets.
Review 24:The tap on the basin was loose, the toilet was too close to the wall and the room was cold. It was supposedly a " delux" room which I paid extra for.
Review 25:Comfortable bed, nice towels, room was very clean.
Review 26:One Young male member of staff needs to adjust his atitude and learn some manors and People skills, other than that the rest of the staff were very pleasent and acomadating
Review 27:The food service and location was excellent,
Review 28:Not really a moan but lack of crossants at breakfast, just one to share, was not refilled during our dining time.
Review 29:Excellent room overlooking the broads, cosy and warm.
Review 30:We had a room that was over looking the broad and was great, just one problem, the bath did not have water hot enough to take a bath,we were told that there was issue with the thermostat. real shame
Review 31:The hotel location was ideal for us, just outside Lowestoft and on Oulton Broad. Wonderful views
Review 32:Shower holder was loose so you could not have a shower, but staff was very helpful and fixed it.
Review 33:Bed was comfy, room was nice and warm, view of the river.
Review 34:Excellent staff, from reception to service, all were friendly and attentive. The room was spotless and had a great view of the river. The food was very good, both evening and breakfast, with plenty of helpful staff waiting on.
Review 35:There was no hot water. However when we told reception in the morning we were given a reduction on our bill without asking for it.
Review 36:Room had been recently refurbished. Lovely view with balcony. Breakfast was good.
Review 37:No porridge for breakfast!
Review 38:All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Bradley's cappuccino was the best I have had for several years!!
Review 39:Loud yobs shouting and screaming outside our window until 3 am.
Review 40:Location great, staff brilliant. The carvery was excellent value and the best I've had in a long time. Well done!
Review 41:Only downside is that the food is only average but lots of choice.
Review 42:Great location directly on the Broads. Room (I had the junior suite with balcony & view of the Broads) was excellent and comfortable.
Review 43:Mattress on sofa bed poor quality - thin and springs uncomfortable. Had to request linens. Breakfast average- no fish!!! So close to the sea. Poor continental choices. Rooms need a small fridge/ minibar for the price, and an iron would be useful. Disco below lasted well past 12mid night
Review 44:All good.
Review 45:Everything, the staff were very helpful and polite, the room was warm and clean with a great view and comfortable bed, the food was very good and Woodfords ale even better, In all a very nice weekend, Thankyou.
Review 46:Toilet was dirty on arrival and used shower cap hanging on bathroom door. On Sunday the room key did not work and there were no towels in the room. Eggs at breakfast a disgrace even when freshly put in warming tray.
Review 47:View from room.
Review 48:Bathroom fittings needed attention!
Review 49:Lovely position on Oulton Broad with fair transport links. Well appointed room with large fluffy towels. Friendly helpful staff in room service, reception, bar and dining room.
Review 50:The smell coming from the kitchen was pretty awful when you walked to the lift and I had no towel in my room
Review 51:the staff were friendly and the room was clean and the food was delicious and the view was beautiful
Review 52:room large but no table or chairs to sit on comfortably .Ensuiite never quite seen one like this.with the toilet at the door opening next to the wash basin with the large rear space empty apart from the bath.
Review 53:location very good, food very good
Review 54:warm to cold breakfast two days running plus the extra charge on the second night of staying in same room £30 more
Review 55:The friendliness of the staff also the comfort ability the bed was very comfortable also
Review 56:mattress on the bed was well passed its best, springs could be felt easily, leaving me very tired for work the next morning. I was going to express concern at reception in the morning, however the receptionist that morning did not even bother to ask if i had had a good night or if my stay had been a good one. Her lack of interest in her clients was disappointing and not in keeping with the reviews i have hear from others.
Review 57:Great location, service in the resturant was good, food served quickly and well presented, shame they had no coleslaw, (strange thing to run out of)
Review 58:The room overlooked the central fire escape and air conditioning units in the centre of the building. Shame when there were such gorgeous views and for the price paid
Review 59:The location and views from the bar / restaurant were beautiful.
Review 60:the position of hotel was excellent/our room overlooked the broad was an added bonus, bedroom was nice ,the food was very good and reasonably priced
Review 61:Disappointed with the room. Have stayed before in a double room which had a lovely view of the broads, stayed this time in a junior suite that had a view of the air conditioning units on the roof. Would just take the double room in future
Review 62:The abrupt rude staff. My assistance dog was refused access to some bedrooms. He stays in hospitals with me yet isn't allowed in some rooms. The noisy fans from room 107 and room overlooking bins in room 102. Staff smoked outside the window so we couldn't have it open. The lift to the disabled room 107 is very small and dangerously near the staircase when you manoeuvre. Wheelchairs are not allowed in lifts if there is a fire yet the disabled room is on the first floor using a small lift!!
Review 63:Views
Review 64:Generally staff uninterested with exception of breakfast staff, booked a disabled room and had to ask for a different room as 1st room was noisy and view from window was vents.
Review 65:Location
Review 66:Window view awful as facing fire escape ladder. Sausages not the nicest but rest of buffet breakfast ok except it seemed people who turned up after 10 o'clock had to ask for more food to be brought out.
Review 67:Staff very friendly and helpful. Lovely spacious room. Carvery really good.
Review 68:Room no hot water .no toilet brush .Abrupt front desk young person not at all helpful . Room was big and felt empty .The noise from the road meant it was not possible to open the windows and hear the tv without the volume at full capacity.
Review 69:Location ,buffet available all day ,evening ..
Review 70:The hot water did not work on our last day.room was cold and told heating was not programmed to come on yet. I told them I was gluten free, yet they ran out of gf bread for breakfast on the sunday
Review 71:Check in was simple. Good choice of food at the carvery, very helpful duty manager
Review 72:We had room 108 water came through the ceiling from room above us, the ceiling was brown and the carpet lifting from damp, could not be moved until next day. View of fire escape. Room next to lift could hear it at night keeping us awake. Moved to room 207, tiny room in attic, small double bed, shower very poor, no remote for TV. Very expensive for what it is.
Review 73:Location, car parking free and on site
Review 74:Outlook from room! We were in room 107, first time we have not looked out onto Oulton Broad. Never mind you can't have everything!
Review 75:The location is super! Staff very friendly. Food good. Walk in shower room, excellent for my husband. We love this place have been about 4/5 times now and will be back.
Review 76:Rather noisy, negotiating filthy , smelly stained carpet near kitchen Very busy and a victim of its success
Review 77:Beautiful location, easy parking, good wifi
Review 78:Noisy room, our room was next to a busy road, only warm water shower, plug in the bath was broken.
Review 79:Comfotable room,Excellent breakfast, dinner,good varied menu.
Review 80:On the Friday and Saturday it was quite noisy by some people drinking too much, also we were woken by noise, not sure what the time was but it sounded like dustmen emptying bins.
Review 81:Very attractive hotel on waters edge, lovely food including a good selection for breakfast and we also had the carvery which was very good their was a choice of 4 meats and a huge selection of vegetables, I can't fault it in any way.
Review 82:breakfast uneatable do to over cooked and cold toast and tea and coffee. the noise from the airvents right outside our window
Review 83:the staff and location of the hotel
Review 84:I stayed in a single room and was woken up at 06:30 and several times afterwards by staff wheeling a loud trolley to and from the outdoor freezer building. This single room cost £120, twice the price of a double room the following night!, which I also stayed in with no issues.
Review 85:Facilities were good, staff were great.
Review 86:The carvery and restaurant/bar is very popular and for good reason. Unfortunately, this means that there is nowhere for guests to sit quietly in the evening, particularly on a weekend.
Review 87:Newly refurbished rooms and in a great location with views across Oulton Broad, as well as easy access to Lowestoft town centre via two rail stations only a 10 min walk away.
Review 88:There is a real feel of "mass catering" in this hotel. We asked for fresh milk for our room to be told that the hotel does not use fresh milk. If we bought our own fresh milk, they would put it in their fridge for us.
Review 89:Some individual members of staff were excellent e.g. the mature manageress with whom I had an excellent conversation and the young lady who tidied our room.
Review 90:Attic room with velux type window so no view at all. Extractor noise from outside window when opened. Extremely noisy guests outside door at 1.00 a.m. outside room.
Review 91:Great location
Review 92:Had to go past kitchen to use lift ,a barrier mat would have improved the dirty looking carpet there due to heavy traffic
Review 93:Very comfortable bed great breakfast choice
Review 94:Room 116 was quite noisy due to traffic from main road and also revellers from local nightclub up to midnight (Fri) and 2am (Sat). People smoking under our window was not pleasant.
Review 95:One person presented as a bit snooty and made us feel like they could not be bothered.
Review 96:In the main the staff were all very helpful and could not have done more to make our stay a pleasure.
Review 97:Shower cubicle floor very slippery when showering in single room for the more mature person!
Review 98:Lovely location, great value tasty carvery, great views from rooms at front, and from tables in restaurant below.
Review 99:Breakfast was a little dry perhaps I was unlucky it was before renewal, otherwise good
Review 100:Very pleased with our room especially being upgraded when we arrived, evening meal very good prices very good value.
Review 101:Restricted beer/ale selection. Seagulls at 5.30 AM urghhhh
Review 102:Friendly and accommodating staff, clean rooms, reasonable food process, great location (river front).
Review 103:We booked on a whim the night before our stay, and they upgraded us when we got there to the Queen's Suite. Spectacular views across the water, private balcony and excellent suite. We couldn't have asked for anything more to finish off our holiday. Staff were friendly and helpful, we even bought up our drinks (& deserts) to the room to enjoy on our balcony watching the sun set. So romantic!
Review 104:The restaurant food was awful some of the items on the menu were sold out. We were told it happens every day. We went to breakfast at 8.30am it was worse than the dinner. All the cooked food was dried up, the eggs were swimming in grease and rock hard. The scrambled eggs were hard and rubber dried crumbs. It was awful..... Other guests were disgusted too .
Review 105:We liked the hotel in general great location enjoyed having a balcony. It was a lovely evening to sit out and watch the boats. Staff were very friendly and obliging.
Review 106:Unfortunately there was a noisy fan going all night in the shower room. Also a fan outside the window from the kitchens. Also the floorboards were extremely creaky, The maintenance man did check but nothing could be done. Price wise it was far too expensive. Thought there may have been a discount on evening meals for residents.
Review 107:staff were excellent, very helpful and always smiling.
Review 108:Shower ran at a trickle and couldn't be fixed. Kept running out of items at the buffet breakfast and were reluctant to re-stock.
Review 109:Nice location with views over the Broad and close to some nice restaurants
Review 110:we booked a deluxe room it was no better than any bog standard room with bed wardrobe and table for tea tray. There was not a shred of luxury anywhere just plain and not worth what we paid on a deal let alone what would be charged normally
Review 111:The staff were polite and the room was clean. The view from the front of the Hotel was perfection, but it was also by a very busy road and surrounded by a car park.
Review 112:Pillows a bit hard, no bin in bathroom.had an ironing board but no iron, probably an oversight, just minor things
Review 113:Beautiful room with balcony, stunning views, good food, in all great value for money
Review 114:Second night of stay woke at 1pm by gang of loud americans sat on terrace below our bedroom balcony, rang security twice before they were asked to move on, initially told they werent staying at the hotel but found out later they were residants, perhaps if the terrace lights were turned off this wouldnt attract undesirables at this time of night, then the 3rd night the fire alarm went off at 5am apparantly this occurs often.. not a restful holiday also bed needs new mattress
Review 115:Lovely room upgraded to balcony, lovely views, great location, lovely carvery, comfortable public areas, pleasant staff
Review 116:The 3.10am fire alarm which turned out to be false. The music until 1am from a disco 100 metres down the road, not the fault of the hotel.
Review 117:The food, the carvery was extremely good. The staff were welcoming and excellent.
Review 118:Overpriced compared to the standard of the rooms. Beds v.uncomfortable. Décor dated. Bathroom v.small and walls not finished painting, not v.clean either. Breakfast was greasy and sausages still raw inside. Charged different prices each time went to the bar, even though ordering same drinks. Overall disappointing.
Review 119:The food was by far the worst I've had, and I've travelled a lot. The Baked Camembert cheese dish was almost inedible, the bread was soggy. The main dish we ordered, a beef & ale pie was burnt and fish pie...was just a horrible pile of mashed potato with lumpy cheese and tiny bit of over-cooked fish and tiny shrimps so little to even taste anything. The breakfast were equally sad quality. Never again.
Review 120:The Location was lovely
Review 121:The room was far too hot as we could not open the window. It was locked, presumably because of the air conditioning duct situated outside it. There was a fan, but it just moved warm air around. It was impossible to sleep.
Review 122:The breakfast was cold as its a buffet the eggs were hard no staff around to order fresh! Never got offered tea or coffees
Review 123:Lady on reception was a great help
Review 124:Information limited on local transport and facilities. Room lacking in hooks for dressing gowns and hand towel adjacent to wash basin.
Review 125:Location and breakfast
Review 126:I Was placed into room 106 which had no A!C and was also next to a very noisy extractor!! Not a very nice night. I ordered sausages and mash with a beer, when my meal arrived the beer had spilt onto my cutlery, hardly any gravy so was not very happy!! I would not recommend this meal to anyone, very poor food and service!
Review 127:Nice location, friendly staff
Review 128:Not any shelves in the bathroom or hooks which can make life hard if you are disabled. Tap needs attention in room 107.
Review 129:To be able to eat your meal overlooking the water. Nice shower.
Review 130:We stayed in the junior suite with two young children aged 2 years and 4 years. We had a lovely room, good breakfast and enjoyed our stay. Thank you
Review 131:The room had no view as there was a kitchen vent across the window, luckily it was switched off overnight. Wanted a boiled egg for breakfast but only choice of fried or scrambled!
Review 132:The Wherry is in an excellent location overlooking the Broads. The room was comfortable especially the bed. The shower was good The staff were very helpful.
Review 133:Bar staff need to be a little more attentive to customers. Sometimes seemed as there were all trying to find something else not to do !
Review 134:Great hotel, lovely rooms. Location spot on for Yarmouth as well. Excellent
Review 135:SIMPLE -- Having to leave !!
Review 136:Brilliant location in one of my favourite areas on the broads. Friendly staff, great views of the Broad, That's why I keep returning to the Wherry at Oulton Broad
Review 137:The shower was broken in that the shower head would not stay where it was put. It kept swinging round and pointing to the wall insteD of me.
Review 138:The location . The food. Lovely staff
Review 139:Wedding party went on until 1 am !! Not happy but manager gave decent rebate for our inconvenience. Must remember to ask before booking if there are any wedding parties taking place at any hotel we book
Review 140:food excellent Carvery worth every penny Room fine very modern bathroom nice having a lift
