Reviews for The Silverton

Review 1:Elevator did not go to the top floor where our room was.

Review 2:The room standard was very high. Dining was very good and reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and attentive. Convenient parking.

Review 3:The hotel is on a busy road and the traffic was noisy. No lift. Good breakfast although fresh fruit salad was fresh out of a tin.

Review 4:Close to the town centre, parking on site. Small but comfortable room. Friendly staff.

Review 5:Noise from the traffic outside. It disturbed sleep.

Review 6:A very pleasant stay overall. We would stay there again but ask for a room away from the main road.

Review 7:Room was advertised as a double but it wasn't big enough to be a double. I was travelling singly but glad there wasn't 2 of us.

Review 8:Location. Central to the town

Review 9:It is noisy with traffic outside etc...if you need a quiet room the back is best but I did find it hard to get a decent sleep here. That said I would still stay again in the same room

Review 10:Location is brilliant..I knew it was easy to walk to shops other restaurants etc and the fact this has parking is a real bonus as most hotels are a nightmare trying to park..some even take the car away to a different location Breakfast was lovely and staff very helpful room was a great size and very comfortable

Review 11:One very minor issue in the room that was attend to promptly

Review 12:I have stayed at the Silverton numerous times under the original owner and the current owner. The current owners have not only maintain the quality and value but have expanded and enhanced food options and, of course, the bar and service was great. The second night was a big party night across Shrewsbury and they managed their crowd effectively I was able to sleep well for a very early departure the next morning.

Review 13:Nothing. Everything suited us very well.

Review 14:My husband has mobility problems and we stayed in the 'disability' room which was delightful: modern, spacious and fully but discreetly equipped for anyone in a wheelchair or just needing a bit of space/support in the bathroom - and served by a disability lift. Helpful staff, good breakfast and plentiful parking.

Review 15:first morning breakfast delayed due to apparent mistake made by one of the staff,no apologies made and we sat for approx 35 minutes before being told we had to wait for another 15 minutes for our breakfast, very frustrating.

Review 16:location excellant, style of finishes very nice, pleasant hotel, felt more personal due to hotel not being to big.

Review 17:Fridge was broken so had to call down for fresh milk but this was explained to us on arrival.

Review 18:All mod cons in the bathroom, heated floor and mirror. Air con unit so we could control the temperature. Excellent restaurant and discount for residents. Bar area very comfortable and live music at weekends. Central location.

Review 19:Car park very dark and doesn't appear very secure.very steep stairway upto rooms are difficult to climb with baggage in hand. Most of common area carpets required cleaning. Reception area poor, and greeting not very professional.

Review 20:Convenient siting,room spacious

Review 21:No heating during day(came on in early hours)broken fridge, bedside lights linked ( had to have both on or off.

Review 22:Friendly staff,great breakfast,comfortable beds

Review 23:The real ale beers were not good, the Guiness was awful. Should probably stick to bottled beers and leave the real ale to the local pubs.

Review 24:Excellent, very friendly and attentive staff. Good clean, quiet room. Good food, breakfast and dinner. Good car parking at the back Early check in made

Review 25:The staff were extremely helpful and made us feel very welcome, we ate there on the two nights of our stay and really enjoyed the food which we thought was very reasonably priced.

Review 26:The room was situated on the main road which was very busy and noisy until late evening. Ear plugs were provided, but I found a few glasses of the Rioja wine helped to drown out the noise!!!

Review 27:The warm and welcoming staff and great food!!

Review 28:No full lenght mirror in room. Lighting poor in bathroom.

Review 29:Staff were very frandly & nothing was too much trouble, room was clean, and bed very comfortable. Breakfast was one of the best we've had, very tasty and plenty of it!

Review 30:Nothing.

Review 31:The weather was awful but no need to leave the hotel in the evening.Excellent singer/guitar player in the bar downstairs. Lovely meal in the restaurant. Free carparking.

Review 32:Starting to get dated. Fridge in room didn't work broken soap holder shower and a number of minor signs of needing a refurb

Review 33:Always enjoy our stay staff excellent particularly restaurant breakfast staff

Review 34:Not being negative but having stayed 3 times before in double room didn't enjoy staying in king room as much due to stains on carpet , hear traffic more no fault of hotel , neither my partner or I can wear earplugs ,

Review 35:Welcome , wifi , breakfast

Review 36:The staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. We had dinner and breakfast, both were excellent. Modern, clean and in a great spot to explore Shrewsbury.

Review 37:Unfortunately our fridge was broken so we had to go to the bar for milk. Could have done with some little milk sachets for late at night or early morning.

Review 38:Good location. Good choice for breakfast. Very comfortable beds. We were at the back of the hotel so no road noise.

Review 39:Only problem we could pick out was in the ensuit where there was a constant smell of drains quite strong at times

Review 40:Staff where brilliant, food excellent really nice hotel. Would visit again.

Review 41:No milk in the room + fridge out of order staff supplied milk was no problem !!

Review 42:Hotel and staff 10out of ten. Hotel in the perfect place for the town centre +++++will come and stay again , DAVE MOORE. MAGICIAN ++++stockport

Review 43:Atmosphere in the bar wasn't great but it was a Sunday and Monday night we were staying.

Review 44:Great location with private parking a real bonus. We ate in the restaurant on one evening and the food was very good. Staff were also very helpful.

Review 45:Too warm in the room although there was a fan

Review 46:Clean comfortable room and modern bath room. Staff helpful and evening meal good quality and reasonably priced .

Review 47:Bathroom electricity is movement operated - which can lead to unexpected results. Fridge wasn't working , but milk could be obtained from the bar downstairs.

Review 48:Friendly attentive staff. Lovely comfortable beds, fantastic breakfast.

Review 49:There is no lift - this makes it difficult get in and out with luggage (the staff offered no help with this). Guest accommodation is on 2 floors over the bar and restaurant area, with access to the bedrooms via two flights of steep stairs. Despite this there are NO fire-escapes from the upper floors. Guests could get trapped in a fire!

Review 50:Restaurant food is good. Early breakfast provided on request. Staff very helpful but a little inexperienced.

Review 51:Should have stayed longer

Review 52:Lovely place fantastic food and staff who could not do enough for us I would recommend this to anyone …… but not on days I want to be there or I might not get s room

Review 53:We had a bedroom that looked on to the busy road at the front of the building. The windows are not double glazed and as consequence, there was a lot of traffic noise. The hotel did supply good quality ear plugs though !

Review 54:Good food, very friendly staff, excellent room.

Review 55:Road traffic at front but earplugs are supplied - would not deter us from staying again.

Review 56:Comfortable beds, clean rooms, good shower, tasty breakfast. Very helpful and approachable staff.

Review 57:A tiny bit noisy late at night due mainly to cars passing, as our room faced on to a main road.

Review 58:Staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was very comfortable and the bathroom was superb, with a fantastic shower. The breakfast room was very spacious and the breakfast itself was wonderful, and unhurried - making it probably one of the best breakfasts we've had in a hotel.

Review 59:Being situated on the main rout into the centre of Shrewsbury it does suffer from traffic noise, but its the price you pay for being in the town. We would definitely stay at the Silverton again.

Review 60:Well appointed rooms, great breakfast ,plentiful parking on site, friendly and helpful staff. Good evening meal which is at a discounted price.

Review 61:Front room has traffic noise but nothing serious. Worth it for the hotel and they have ear plugs that would pass as jelly beans!

Review 62:Good staff giving an excellent service, great room clean and bed room very good. Food is well priced and locals speak highly of the breakfast. We saw solo travelers were well looked after, the bar area was welcoming and comfortable .Good location near to bars and river.

Review 63:We had a top floor bedroom at the front and the road noise was a nuisance, though it did die down overnight to early hours. Wi-fi wasn't available in top room though ethernet cable was supplied for laptops. (Wi-fi fine downstairs.)

Review 64:Helpful friendly staff, stylish modern design, food (and choice) excellent, room and bed comfortable, own carpark, bar area lovely, great location for Shrewsbury centre ( and easy car access to A5 to avoid driving through the town).

Review 65:Very clean and comfortable, great staff. Five minutes walk into Shrewsbury centre, which is a one of the loveliest towns in England. Breakfasts first class. Had evening meal on last of our four nights and that was very good too.

Review 66:Wifi was too weak to work but of you have a proper laptop there is an rj45 cable in the drawer (no good for android tablet!).

Review 67:The room was very clean and modern and breakfast was good.

Review 68:I was refused a refund despite the fact that the room was not as advertised. Apparently it was my responsibility to ask for a room that it was actually possible to sleep in and not just expect that the room would be usable for the purpose of sleep. Staff on site were adequate in as much as they telephoned a manager who refused the refund and recommended that I make use of the earplugs that were supplied with the room. The Lion Hotel found me a good room much cheaper.

Review 69:I didn't stay at the hotel as the "Superior room" I was allocated was far from superior as a hotel room due to vibration and very (VERY) loud traffic noise right outside my window. I have never been to a hotel where the room comes complete with ear plugs! I guess this would be the bit some people may have liked about this room.

Review 70:Wi fi week upstairs

Review 71:Quaint hotel basic but so friendly staff great happy hour 2 for one cocktail super meals for dinner and the breakfast included was fantastic upgraded rooms top shower aircon worked great so very clean we had front room to road was low noise levels will book here again any time 5stars

Review 72:Front rooms a touch noisy, earplugs supplied but heavy road traffic

Review 73:friendly staff, lots of help and direction from arrival and throughout our stay. Nice bar downstairs and a rather good restaurant. Night porter is available to supply a night cap!

Review 74:Only one small towel provided instead of the usual two. Every day I asked for a second one, the next day only one would be left. We asked for an extra room key so that we could return separately, the hotel seemed to find this a very unusual request. We were given the disabled room (Stiperstones) and the shower curtain was far too short so water bounced off the tray and all over the floor, making it very slippery. Anyone in a wheelchair wouldn't have been able to help leaving wet tyre tracks across the room. I had asked for a top sheet to go under the duvet, but on the third evening when we returned home at 1am I found it was missing. I had to ask for another and remake the bed. Wall mirror needed above drawers where hair dryer was stored.

Review 75:Very good breakfast. Comfortable bed.

Review 76:Only downside was entrance to car par at back of hotel is a bit awkward to drive into, but we didn't realise at the time there was another entrance that would have been a lot easier. Still we know for next time, as would definitely stay here again.

Review 77:Good size nice clean room. Fresh milk in fridge and a bottle of water. Breakfast great, and plenty of choice. We dined in the restaurant in the evening and they have some good deals on with free bottle of wine etc. Staff very friendly, and location perfect, just a five minute walk into town centre. Plenty of pubs just a stones throw away.

Review 78:No bad experiences, but we had been aware that if you have a room at the front, the traffic noise is very loud in the rush hours - however ear plugs are supplied, and you may well wish to use them!

Review 79:Our spacious and tasteful modern bedroom with neat tea and coffee facilities plus fridge and - real milk! Even air con! which is good when windows can't be opened as room was at front of hotel, was overlooked and on the main road. Enjoyed excellent food in restaurant just downstairs for dinner and breakfast. A very handy hotel within a short walk of the town across the bridge, with helpful staff. We would go again.

Review 80:Noisy neighbours! Not the hotel's fault but enough sleep is about the most important feature f any hotel stay. Perhaps the walls are too thin?

Review 81:Breakfast very good. Location superb. Free parking. Beds comfortable.

Review 82:Nothing really.

Review 83:This was our second stay at the Silverton the staff are very friendly, the location excellent for the town centre and the hotel is very clean and comfortable.

Review 84:As room was at front we were aware of traffic on busy road. Hotel provided earplugs which helped greatly overnight. Breakfast was nice if you like cooked. Only continental option after the cereal or fruit salad was a cold croissant and strawberry jam.

Review 85:Good size room. Very clean and comfortable. We had dinner in hotel both nights - excellent .

Review 86:Not really a dislike, but a lot of stairs to go up if you are located on the top floor - don't take a large bag!!!

Review 87:Good location, easy access to town, very friendly staff, nice relaxed atmosphere in the bar and restaurant area, meals were excellent in both quality and price. bedroom were clean and tidy with a comfy bed. Good sized car park for quests

Review 88:On-site parking. The customer-focussed staff allowed us to park at the hotel on the day we were leaving after we had checked out (whilst we finished our commitments in town).

Review 89:Lift to first floor only, sohad to lift heavy bags up one level

Review 90:We loved this hotel. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room was spacious and nicely appointed

Review 91:The WiFi was unusable in the bedroom, so I had to go to the bar to use it. The cost of a G & T in the bar was more than £6.00! and the bar was nothing special. Bedsheets were squeaky with chemical residue, and there were insects in the room.

Review 92:Private car park was good, given the central-ish location.

Review 93:We arrived for breakfast midway through the service to find that there was little fresh fruit salad and only one croissant. Perhaps there could also be a greater selection of preserves.

Review 94:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Excellent cooked breakfast.

Review 95:Lack of air conditioning in our standard double room meant we had the windows open at night so experienced some disturbance from external night time sounds.

Review 96:Friendly staff and excellent location of the hotel. Free on site parking was welcome. Breakfast was extremely good on two days of our stay. The last breakfast was less well cooked but these things are a matter of taste.

Review 97:Confusing position of ensuite switches for lights and heating meant that on one of the hottest days this year the radiator came on full after mistake made on trip to bathroom! This problem should have been pointed out to us.

Review 98:Excellent location. Great breakfast. Friendly staff

Review 99:Room tempature up and down Our bedroom was on main road which made it a little difficult to sleep Bed/pillows a bit on the hard side

Review 100:Friendly amosphere Location Very helpful staff Dinind/bar area

Review 101:There is a little travel noise at the front but ear plugs are helpfully provided.

Review 102:The overriding feature of this lovely hotel is the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. We were a large party staying in 5 bedrooms and we invited extras for lunch, the staff all smiled as they added more places and more tables for our group. It was great.

Review 103:The price for staying in an excellent location relative to Shrewsbury was that our bedroom to the front of the building above the main road was noisy due to traffic. Breakfast on the second day was disappointing .The waitress did offer to replace the bacon which was leathery and caramelised to the point of being burnt and it is always iffy to request the scrambled egg option - which turned out to be an odd failed omelette of some sort. It seems that morning's chef needs a refresher course in breakfast making ...

Review 104:This is a stylish little hotel with friendly and efficient staff .Fresh milk in the small bedroom fridge was very welcome by comparison with the usual fiddly long life mini cartons. The stairs are steep and narrow but there is a lift to the first floor - not the second.

Review 105:I was in an unairconditioned room and it was very hot. The offer of a bigger fan earlier would have been good.

Review 106:The staff! They were great and relaxed but went out of their way to be helpful. The two girls with the same first name were super and the young barman (Mark, I think) was so kind. They all made my stay enjoyable.

Review 107:We stayed in the superior double room with two young children, this islocated at the front of the building. This room is extremely noisy and Iwould not recommend it, it was Sunday & there was no let up intraffic all night!! Earplugs are provided but do not help. There is nomention of this when booking! Manager was very accommodating tocomplaint, however we would of just preferred a good night sleep. To bepicky no biscuits in room... Expensive room with kids! Also we wereasked if we would like brown or white bread for toast, requested brownreceived both!!!! If we were in a room located at the back it wouldprobably of been a better experience.

Review 108:Outstanding breakfast, clean large room & free WiFi.

Review 109:We booked Sunday night and restaurant closed at 6pm. No good for us. Also pub next door had beer festival with group very loud music till 10pm

Review 110:Great location and good off street parking

Review 111:The staff always make a huge difference, the staff at The Silverton were friendly and extremely helpful. The bar service was great, quick and cocktails were good.

Review 112:No hanging space apart from a coat hook in the room. The room was really hot even though the weather was pleasant. Can't imagine what it would be like in really hot weather

Review 113:Really good location and great staff

Review 114:Nothing not to like.

Review 115:The room (excellent colour) the professionalism and friendless of the staff. The cleanliness of the room, the amazing glorious food. Secure parking.Just loved it Thank you x The ipod doc too

Review 116:Nothing except the slight traffic buzz in morning No lift to third floor

Review 117:Modern interior design Service is excellent Milk in fridge Bed was very comfortable Convenient location Breakfast is generous I would go there again

Review 118:none

Review 119:great staff,we booked the silverton due to it's location to the theatre 2 min walk, the rooms are very clean and very up to date.breakfast GREAT will be staying again

Review 120:This hotel is a little gem! In a brilliant location just 5 minutes walk from the town centre. Staff are very friendly without being intrusive. Nothing is too much trouble (we were even given a lift by the wonderful owner when our taxi didn't turn up). The rooms are comfortable and spotlessly clean. Great atmosphere in the public bar area. Excellent dining facilities and the breakfast was delicious. All in all a fantastic stay, I wouldnt hesitate to return

Review 121:The breakfast start time at 8a.m. is a little late for some business travellers like me. The water pressure seemed a little low in my room but nothing untoward and the room didn't have a desk facility to work from. All minor things that didn't overly impact on my stay and wouldn't stop me staying there again!

Review 122:The staff were very friendly and went out of their way to make sure everything was OK. The room was comfortable, modern and kept very clean. It had parking in a fantastic location for easy access to the theatre and town centre. I would recommend staying here and I would certainly consider it again.

Review 123:The afternoon/evening shift change between receptionists caused great confusion in respect of designated rooms. We checked in first and our international guests checked in after the shift change. Clearly there was no handing over period to the evening receptionist because she discovered the rooms were wrongly allocated and our names caused more confusion as we were in the wrong rooms. We ordered a King room on Booking.com only to find that there was no such thing. The evening receptionist/waitress was totally ditzy when it came to the meal order and would walk off and then stop, stare ahead of her and then return to clarify the order and how the tab was going to be set up. She also couldn't get her head around the steak special. It was for two people and because two from the same room never ordered the steak special she felt it never applied even though the number of guests equalled the required criteria for the steak special. Because she was battling to work out what order went to what room number we eventually told her to put everything on one tab and we would sort it out. The Friday morning staff (owner and waitress) had their act together and were super-efficient. The pillows in the bedrooms were like air-floatation devices and the duvet was a very thin yoga mat style. I nearly went to the car at 3am to collect my own pillows.

Review 124:Location is fantastic - easy access to city centre. Breakfast was great. Dinner was very mediocre having order the steak special and having the choice between ribeye and rump. We requested ribeye - only to find it wasn't ribeye. Nevertheless, we were to hungry to bother. The rooms were clean, lacking in character, but that was the least of our concerns.

Review 125:Room at front of hotel (can't remember it's name) was very loud as it faced main road. Difficult to hear T.V and a pain to get to sleep. Maybe some form of interior glazing would help. They did provide foam earplugs but mine fell out! Def try get room at back of hotel.

Review 126:Wilingness to understand dietary issues and to accommodate them Very clean rooms Friendly staff and efficient check -in Wonderful shower Great energy saving ideas in rooms

Review 127:Had an issue with hot water in bedroom which they were unable to resolve but didn't detract from enjoyable 1 night stay and would stay again

Review 128:Staff very attentive and friendly

Review 129:This room was very noisy as it is right on the main road (ear plugs wereprovided!). There is a street light right outside the window which alsomade sleeping difficult. I suggest that the owners need to invest inblackout blinds to help with this

Review 130:The room (Corndon) was a good size with a comfortable bed , greatbathroom, lots of free parking. Good location. Generous time slot forbreakfast!

Review 131:Late check in due to filming in progress. When we arrived and the room was about 20 mins away we had to wait another hour because any noise we might make would disturb filming.

Review 132:Well positioned to walk Shrewsbury

Review 133:Breakfast was a little disappointing, it was cooked very nice, though looked a tad sparse on huge plate, why such large plate ?

Review 134:We arrived late, night porter didnt know we was arriving after midnight, however he soon sorted us out, very efficiently. Room was very clean and we thought the bed was EXCELLENT, had a great nights sleep.

Review 135:My only bad experience was our room was on the main road, we got there at 11.30pm and hoping to get a bit of a lie in, but 6am traffic started and end of lie in.

Review 136:room was really nice and comfortable, staff were really helpful, couldn't do enough for you. would go back again.

Review 137:Found this hotel to be a little gem conveniently located in Shrewsbury. The staff were extremely pleasant & professional & welcoming particularly the young lady on the front of house checking us in. Would recommend this place for its friendliness and levels of comfort which you don't find in the larger hotel chains.

Review 138:Not a bad experience but the side of the hotel needs a tidy up and a lick of ain't.

Review 139:Gemma is a gem, she is so helpful and friendly. The breakfasts especially the eggs benedict were wonderful. Had 1 evening meal, again very good value and delicious.

Review 140:We invited some friends to join us for breakfast so there were 4 of us, I think we were forgotten because we waited an age for our food and when it arrived it wasn't worth the wait. (No apology)

Review 141:The Silverton suited our needs perfectly, the atmosphere was good, the place was clean, the evening meal was 1st class (we had the steak deal) and the staff were great.

Review 142:room very noisy at night and overpriced, we expected more luxury for £135 a night. no biscuits on tea tray and not much choice and no fizzy water in fridge as advertised in brochure

Review 143:staff very efficient and friendly, hotel close to all amenities, food very good
