Reviews for Best Western Station Hotel
Review 1:I stayed for a friends wedding. It was perfectly located, for me getting straight off of the train, and as the wedding was held in the hotel itself. Staff were both friendly and helpful online and in person. I managed to get an early checkin, so that I could dress for the 2pm wedding was welcome to stay in the lounge, whilst waiting for my train the next afternoon after checkout. The wedding, the meal and reception were all fantastic. Breakfast the next day just what I needed and there lunch I had, whilst waiting for my train, was lovely too. The bed was comfortable and the room clean. The shower room was also off an adequate size and immaculately clean. Room facilities were off a good standard: Tea/coffee, tv, iron and board, dressing table etc. My only complaint was the fact I couldn't use my card, at the bar, during the wedding reception and was oddly advised to go to a pub on the corner to use their cash machine (which was actually not there any more, so I had to get cash back) instead of being advised I could start a room tab, which is what other guests did!?! Also, the bar prices were a bit much even for a hotel. All in all I enjoyed my stay and would definitely stay again.
Review 2:The staff responded promptly to our requests to turn up the heating and to provide a small heater as the restaurant was cool. The food - fillet steak and fish and chips were excellent. Breakfast was great too. Oh and parking was free into the bargain.
Review 3:We ordered 3 startes they were very bland. However we received a discount. The breakfast was really nice.
Review 4:The rooms were very comfortable nd decorated nicely
Review 5:Rebecca at front desk is a lovely friendly welcoming person, she helped me tremendously on route to where I had walk, printed times of trains and buses even highlighted places and times which made life easier for me..she arranged heater to be brought up to my room, you don't want to lose this young lady to another company hotel..the hotel being across road from rail station was also great I easily jumped on train to pick my bag up from hotel in Dumfries excellent location..
Review 6:The whole stay was excellent and the beds were so comfortable - better than home. The staff were very friendly and very helpful too. Pity we could only stay the one night.
Review 7:The staff were great, especially Rebecca on the front desk, could not do enough to help us, the experience from check in to check out was wonderful, will stay there again on my travels
Review 8:Room was noisy, the seagulls were squawking from dawn got back to sleep only to be woken by next door having a shower at 5:30 - no soundproofing. The hairdryer over heated after 2 mins use so took a while to dry my hair. Other than that it was a very pleasant stay.
Review 9:Reasonable choice for breakfast from the cold buffet, I didn't have anything cooked. Enjoyed a steak one evening in the restaurant which was very good.
Review 10:My room was rather shabby - peeling paintwork etc, and just generally needed smartening up.
Review 11:Helpful staff, free parking, central location, cleanliness of rooms and public areas
Review 12:Having to leave.
Review 13:Excellent location of hotel. Rail station right by 5 minute walk to town centre quante little tea rooms good night life.5 minute walk to river edge. ANd plenty historic buildings see you soon. Need two nights not one to appreciate this town and coastline ;-)
Review 14:The only negative comment I can think of is that the TV didn't seem to be working. This wasn't an issue for me personally but I'm sure if it were and I had mentioned it to the staff it would have been resolved.
Review 15:Terrific hotel comfy big bed and excellent staff porters, waiters, cleaners, cooks! The room and ensure we're huge and immaculate. The wifi was excellent and overall I had a great stay, will choose this hotel again if ever I am in the area.
Review 16:Outside patio dirty with uncleared tables and rubbish Poor quality meals considering the hotel says it uses local produce Steak in the evening was tough and cutlery not sharp Breakfast obviously prepared well in advance and was tateless
Review 17:Bed uncomfortable. Also restaurant very dull, located in basement. Menu disappointing.
Review 18:Good location, clean room. Breakfast reasonable for price paid.
Review 19:An older lady member of staff who was very unpleasant on reception! When my husband on one occasion asked if he could use the computor , she replied very condescending " are you a guest!!" When obviously we were!! Then on another request in the evening when my husband and i had returned from our anniversary dinner with some left over wine we were given, and asked could we please have x2 glasses snd a bit of ice her attitude to us was intimidating as she looked down on us to remind us that the hotel sold drink and we shouldnt have any other drink in the hotel!! We have stayed in hundreds of hotels as we told her and have never bern made to feel so bad in requesting x2 glasses to go with some wine we have bought back left over from a previous meal we have had that evening! As i left the same lady asked me how our stay was and i reminded her of how insulted we felt the evenig before, and she did not apologise at all but further insulted us by sniggering to herself! As i left i told her the hotel was lovely and may i say the reat of the staff were wonderful and had a smile everytime and cudnt to enough for us and we thank them! As for the very unpleasant older lady i think she should retire am sorry!!!
Review 20:The room with double asoect windows!
Review 21:Nothing about hotel. Dumfries town centre wasn't great
Review 22:What a great hotel! Staff were friendly and helpful, hotel was clean and room was lovely. Food in bistro was lovely, partner said it was the best steak he'd ever eaten. Would highly recommend it
Review 23:There weren't enough electric sockets in the bedroom. So, in order to use the desk lamp, you had to first unplug the kettle and then plug in the desk lamp, and the socket wasn't in a convenient place.
Review 24:The fact that the radiator was right next to the bed made for a really cosy night's sleep. The restaurant's fare, both evening and morning, was very good, and the staff were knowledgeable and friendly.
Review 25:Conveniently situated next to the station, the hotel offers quiet and comfortable accommodation in an attractive setting with congenial and very helpful staff as well as the added bonus of great food and a welcoming bar.
Review 26:Nothing much really, a little of the décor dated but that's just being picky.
Review 27:Friendliness of staff. Quality of food. Location to station and town centre.
Review 28:Would have preferred a double rather than two twin beds. Also quite a long walk to the shopping area (compensated by closeness to Railway Station)
Review 29:Friendly cosy atmosphere - helpfulness of staff - excellent breakfast and dinner.
Review 30:Although the hotel was under occupied it was very difficult to get a sandwich or anything to eat outside of restaurant times. The room I was given was on the third floor and a very strange shape, with low eaves around the bed. This meant I had to be really careful not to bang my head getting in and out of bed.
Review 31:The young woman in reception was very helpful when room service I ordered didn't arrive in time for me to have dinner and did everything she could to put things right.
Review 32:Delightful family owned and operated hotel close to walking Dumfries. Staff friendly and helpful, our room was large, clean and the bed was very comfortable. Room service was a blessing after a long day on the road. A good choice for Dumfries!
Review 33:The building has a lot of charachter, nicely furnished throughout with a very nice bar/lounge area. Excellent location, opposite the train station and only a short walk to the town centre. Rooms comfortable and spacious. Very pleasant staff. Good breakfast.
Review 34:Breakfast room was on the lower ground floor and was rather chilly.

Review 39:We felt that the Lounge Bar couches against the wall could be doing with being recovered
Review 40:Room very clean and comfortable, very friendly & helpful reception
Review 41:Welcome and friendliness of the staff. Location of the hotel ,convenient for town and also in a quiet location. The conservatory and garden gave a very relaxing feeling in which to chill out.
Review 42:The evening meal in the bistro. Our booking made in the afternoon at reception had not been given to the restaurant. Our main courses arrived late. Other guests who arrived after us were served before us. My wife sent her main course back as it was a plate of hard broccoli and no pork to be seen. My meal was dry and had to ask for gravy which did not arrive for a further ten minutes.
Review 43:The superior room was spacious and comfy.
Review 44:Overall hotel décor could use a little spruce up, felt a bit tired. The lift was very claustrophobic in particular!
Review 45:Great sleep in a very comfortable bed. Parking included was a bonus, and the location was close to the city for amenities. Staff were friendly and helpful. Overall a good place for a short stay.
Review 46:The plastic cups in the bathroom. Glasses would have been preferable.
Review 47:The large airy room with plenty of natural light. The décor and furniture were lovely and clean and in keeping with the building. The staff were most helpful and obliging. Excellent breakfast.
Review 48:Sorry no complaints, service in the dining room for breakfast was excellent and it was indeed great to get a cooked breakfast that was really hot, a rare thing in this day and age as the normal breakfast is a self service lukewarm buffet
Review 49:It is an old hotel and I notice that such a lot of work was done (certainly in my room)just to make sure that everything a traveller would need was indeed there. The décor and bedding were all in excellent order. It was (unusually for me ) value for money
Review 50:Friendly, helpful staff. Breakfast cooked to order. High-quality free Wifi. Free parking close to front entrance. Short walk to town centre. Quiet room - good sleep. Well cared-for period building.

Review 64:The location across from the station is very convenient. All the staff were very friendly and even lent me an I phone charger. Breakfast was included in my rate and was delicious .
Review 65:Shower wouldn't produce hot water.
Review 66:Spacious room, comfortable bed and pillows. Soft carpeting, thick lined curtains to exclude light and draught.
