Reviews for Thornhill Hotel
Review 1:Although we booked knowing this room was not en-suite the bathroom was not just across the corridor opposite our room as the description intimates.
Review 2:Location, friendly owners really good breakfast. Very clean. Could not fault the service.
Review 3:Not applicable.
Review 4:The hotel is just 5 minutes from the railway station. Our room was very quiet and comfortable. The included breakfast was plentiful and tasty.
Review 5:I didn't like the fact that the lights on the main stairs were not on permanent put we're like a security light. I think that's a safety issue and was very poor. There was also a smell of urine in the room as if someone got to the loo too late. A hook Behring the room door would have been useful to hang my coat on
Review 6:I had a very small but cosy little room. It was very quiet
Review 7:I misread the information regarding car parking which is in a nearby public car park. This was quite cheap and only a couple of minutes away but I prefer to park on site.
Review 8:Very friendly and helpful owners who provided a lovely breakfast each morning. Sandra gave advice regarding places to eat in the evenings. Excellent location within very easy walking distance of the town centre and pier, etc.
Review 9:We had to pay for parking on the road and in a public car park, although it was close by.
Review 10:The staff were attentive and remembered our preferences. The room was wonderful, warm and fully equipped. The site was perfect.
Review 11:If you are staying at the Thornhill you will be warmly welcomed by Alison and her team. The customer service is exceptional, nothing is too much bother and they really are happy to assist with your every need. The rooms are spotless. lovely hot showers, fluffy towels and comfy beds. The attention to detail down to sweeties in the room is a very lovely touch indeed. Breakfast - don't get me started. you'd need to stay a week to get through the menu - delicious! As for the location - breathtaking! Room 6 was just a window of Sea, such a lovely sound listening to the waves crashing against the shore. Perfect location for beach, good restaurants, train station and close to all amenities, can't wait to stay again over Xmas. Thank you ladies, the perfect stay - Sam & Ellie!
Review 12:The bathrooms were tiny, and dark, in rooms there was nowhere to put luggage, everything felt small and crowded. One had to park some distance away in a paid lot, and unloading luggage at the hotel was difficult and challenging.
Review 13:Hosts did their best to accomodate our needs
Review 14:A great place for a mid week break. Sandy and her team were very welcoming and accommodating. The room was a good size and well kept. The full English breakfast was delicious and it was nice to be able to have extras. Location is perfect with a car park very near by. There are loads of pubs and restaurants nearby as well as walking trails. Great to be able to bring the dog too. We look forward to the next time.
Review 15:Nothing really.
Review 16:Great Location. The gentle sound of the waves was very comforting in an otherwise silent environment. Excellent breakfast. Very good value. Third time there. Would go nowhere else. Handy for train station.
Review 17:Tv could have been a bit bigger! But totally enjoyed our stay.
Review 18:Very clean and spotless hotel, and don't let it put you off having a private WC Shower outside the room. great breakfast. loved the sea view.
Review 19:The beds were far too soft and the rooms small. Rather frugal with the teabags and milk on the hospitality tray. Floorboards are loose and you are very aware of anyone walking passed your room, in fact it would shake my bed. No outside facilities to sit in. No private parking.
Review 20:The location is excellent, especially if hills or slopes are a problem.
Review 21:no on-site parking, but there was parking near-by but it was by ticket. If you come by train it's ideal as it's only a short walk rom the station.
Review 22:Great breakfast,great location,lovely owners and staff,nice and clean,proper size bath towels,lovely view from our window,great price,nice size room
Review 23:The toilet/shower room wasn't located in our room, it was a short walk through the communal hallway. This was explained in the description so my fault for not realising. Not really a problem though
Review 24:Excellent location, right by the beach and a sea view from the room. Free wifi. Very friendly helpful owners. Breakfast was delicious with lots of choice
Review 25:Brilliant hotel just a stones through from the sea wall...free wifi, comfortable and clean room, excellent nights sleep, brilliant breakfast and top service from sandy, Ian, and Alison and all other staff
Review 26:Nice hotel with extremely friendly and helpful staff. Nothing was too much effort. Asked at breakfast if you wanted extra portions and more tea. Would recommend.
Review 27:Absolutely nothing that we can think of.
Review 28:Everything was just perfect. Lovely clean bedroom with a really comfy bed and great bathroom. Couldn't ask for a better location. Superb breakfast served each morning. A really quiet, well run, family hotel. Thank you for a fabulous stay.
Review 29:Location in quiet spot just off the town centre but just yards from the sea. Room spotlessly clean, great breakfast, staff couldn't do enough. Only stayed the night but would definately look to stay again.
Review 30:Breakfast was a bit of a let down as previous reviews had said how wonderful. I found it average and the sausages served should not be used by a 4 * hotel however the staff are very friendly & helpful
Review 31:Nice location & room size although no parking at location the carpark was nearby & reasonable in price however for anyone with mobility problems this could be an issue
Review 32:No complaints whatsoever!
Review 33:Absolutely great stay, we were only sorry we could not stay longer - no vacancies! Can't wait to return in the not too distant future. Many, many thanks!
Review 34:Very nice hotel in convenient location with easy walk to station. Small but clean and comfortable single room that had all I needed. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 35:The was nothing bad about our stay just a few silly little things that prevented a top rating. Like the tv in our room being to the left wall of the bed instead of at the end of the bed. Stiff neck ! And not being asked if we would like more coffee or toast at brekky. Little things but important.
Review 36:The hotel was comfortable warm and clean.
Review 37:Expensive for a very small en suite room (or room with private bathroom but some way away), a rather skimpy breakfast and no guest parking.
Review 38:Good position on sea front, efficient WiFi. Use of guest lounge.
Review 39:Thornhill hotel is wonderfully situated close to the seafront at Teignmouth. It's a short walk to the Station, Pier and Town Centre. The staff are so friendly, warm and welcoming and the breakfast was wonderful. We really loved our stay here and I would recommend as a base to explore the English Riviera. The rooms are so comfortable and we were offered details of places to eat, what to do and yet the service wasn't intrusive. Very, very good customer service and a great atmosphere. Thank you!
Review 40:Nothing to not like!
Review 41:I have stayed in a lot of small hotels and the Thornhill Hotel is amoungst the best I have used at any price. And this price was great. Real quality is very rare in a small hotel but here everything works, and is stylish too! Good food and friendly service. Teignmouth is a great family friendly place too.
Review 42:No on site parking, although we did know this before we booked, a public car park was 2 mins walk away for £3.40 for a full 24 hrs (£2.00 winter month)
Review 43:We received a warm welcome from Sandy. The hotel was spotlessly clean, and a great quiet location. The bed was very comfortable and our room (5) had a fab sea view. Breakfast was cooked to order along with a choice of fresh fruit, cereal, yoghurt & O.J..All the staff were very friendly. Would highly recommend
Review 44:An extremely minor point is No parking at the Hotel, however temporary meter parking is available opposite whilst you check in and freshen up. Permanent parking is 2 minutes away in a safe car park for just £2.00 for 25 hours.
Review 45:The Hospitality, the bed, the shower, the breakfast, the location and our room, room no 6 with sea view.
Review 46:On arrival I was asked if I knew there was no toilet in the room, when I replied "no" I was asked if I wanted to move rooms. It was not until I checked out that I was told I had to pay an extra £10 for the privilege of an ensuite toilet.
Review 47:Location was good except for no parking. Staff seemed friendly.
Review 48:Rooms were immaculate and cleanliness was first rate. Proprietors could not have been more helpful. Ideally located for town, coastal walks and beach.
Review 49:There was nothing to dislike about the Thornhill.
Review 50:I received warm welcome. Hotel was spotlessly clean throughout. Room very comfortable. Breakfasts were delicious and freshly cooked. Nothing too much trouble. Many thanks.
Review 51:This hotel was very comfortable and cosy. Well run. Breakfast choice was extensive and cooked to perfection. Great location. Would recommend to family and friends.
Review 52:There was nothing to dislike Wonderful family
Review 53:We could not have travelled to a better place, everything was just how we wanted, will definitely go back, can not thank them enough
Review 54:Our room had the bathroom outside the room.
Review 55:Went for a friends wedding and this hotel was perfect. Very close to the train station and the venue. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the cooked breakfast was lovely, for the price it was excellent.
Review 56:There was nothing to dislike about this lovely hotel.
Review 57:Location was very good, close to the centre, presentation of food was excellent, staff was very friendly & helpful, always lovely to see a smile,Sandy the owner is a lovely lady & made us feel very welcome, the hotel was very clean a joy to stay in.Would come back again.
Review 58:We didn't like the view from our room, it was a view of the bin Sheds of a neighbouring hotel.
Review 59:We liked the cleanliness of the hotel, our room was spotless. The little extras in the room, tissues, sweets and tea/coffee was a nice touch. The location is fantastic!
Review 60:Car parking situation was only downside..you had to use a public car park but then keep topping up the meter.
Review 61:Great location on the front, hotel spotless. Breakfast was great and lots of choice. Staff lovely and so helpful.
Review 62:The next day we went down for breakfast which was very nicely set out with cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurt and orange juice. There was plenty of choice on the menu for different combinations of hot food. I had a muffin with scrambled egg and smoked salmon which was delicious, my husband had the full breakfast although he was given mushrooms instead of beans for some reason. He doesnt like mushrooms, but this was soon rectified. What I didnt like was the forty five minutes wait for the main breakfast. I dont believe we were last in and by that time the tea had been drunk. We saw the lady from the day before but she never spoke and we paid and left. We thought this was strange not to even say good morning. So that changed our overall enjoyment of this stay.
Review 63:I liked the lady that opened the door to us. She was very friendly and easy to talk to. She was helpful with ideas of where to eat and overnight parking. She made sure we had enough change for the machine and then showed us to our room. The room was small but quite cosy and had a comfortable bed and nice bedding.
Review 64:The staff were pleasant friendly and attentive the room was clean and comfortable great choice of breakfast-delicious! Would be my first choice to stay again
Review 65:No parking on site, but very cl
Review 66:The hotel is small but very welcoming. Very friendly staff, great breakfast, very comfortable bed, spotlessly clean and in a nice quiet location close to town with sea views.
Review 67:Only gripe toast was not done enough but i have no doubt had we asked it would have been rectified
Review 68:Cleanliness good food good location for our needs friendly staff
Review 69:Problem with parking. Can park overnight outside on seafront until 9 am
Review 70:Room had comfy king size bed. Clean. Excellent choice for breakfast, freshly cooked. Friendly staff.
Review 71:This hotel lived up to all the ratings. The staff were so friendly and helpful, the breakfasts tasty and plentiful, the whole place spotless, and the situation on the seafront ideal. We hope to return next year.
Review 72:We booked for one night on our way to cornwall. The room was lovely. The towels were sooo soft. The breakfast choice was amazing and the staff were very helpful. Nothing was to much trouble. We would definitely go there again!
Review 73:Room could have been cleaner (empty tic tac carton on the floor, razor in shower, room smelled of stale cigarettes). Forgot to make up room on second day.
Review 74:Location, staff, excellent breakfast, quiet room, good value
Review 75:had to pay for parking on the street
Review 76:Very close to the quay, city with restaurants and pubs in walking distance "Fish 'n chips in the "Ship Inn" are amazing,
Review 77:The price, being a single traveller unless you pay for a double room you end up in a broom cupboard!
Review 78:Really lovely staff, young lady at breakfast was really pleasant, breakfast superb and bed very comfortable!
Review 79:NOTHING
Review 80:This was a perfect place to stay. Quiet, yet only 2 minutes from the centre of town. There are only good things to say about this Hotel. Hosts were welcoming and very friendly. Breakfasts were great, lots of choice. Room was very clean and well equipped. I had a very relaxing holiday here and would highly recommend.
Review 81:A little old fashioned which isn't to everyones taste, but not really a fault as I liked the quirkiness,
Review 82:Comfortable room, friendly staff, great breakfast and good friendly service, I only stayed one night but will definitely try booking here for my next visits.
Review 83:There was nothing not to like
Review 84:We were welcomed by sandra the landlady who showed us to our room which was on the ground floor and a lovely room it was we where very satisfied we wood recommend it to anyone
Review 85:Room a little on the small side (it's a single) but plenty big enough.
Review 86:Comfortable, clean en-suite room in a very central location. TV, tea coffee etc - nice big shower and friendly, professional staff.
Review 87:For room 5, the bathroom was a little far from the room - I realise it stated this on the website, it wasn't a big problem and the room itself was very nice. The breakfast service was a bit slow
Review 88:Hotel was in a quiet location. Hotel was easy to get to by car. Could also see our car from our room window so seemed v. secure. Bed was very comfortable. Bathroom & room was very clean. Easy to get parking which wasn't very expensive. Breakfast was very nice but the coffee could be better. The staff were very nice.
Review 89:Some aspects of the hotel still a little dated for my personal choice, but this negative is only left because we don't have anything to complain about!
Review 90:Fantastic breakfast: wide range of choice of fresh, high quality produce. Breakfast staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms very clean. Lovely downstairs lounge and dining area.
Review 91:The seagulls screaming early in the morning!

Review 99:Nothing comes to mind
Review 100:Now the best accommodation to stay in in Teignmouth. Have stayed in Teignmouth for over a decade and. IMHO the Thornhill scores excellently in all areas, nothing is too much trouble for them.
Review 101:Telephone reception was poor, but the wifi was excellent
Review 102:Everything about this place was good. I thought it was excellent value for money. I want to go again!
Review 103:Great position at quieter end of town and close to station (was the first time we'd weekended without the car). Décor pleasant, owners and staff friendly, good breakfast with many choices. Would definitely recommend and would stay again. Loved the 'quirky' stairs.
Review 104:The room we had was too small for two people to be really comfortable BUT we were warned in advance it was a 'small double'. It was a VERY small double and the bathroom was really much too small, albeit a great shower. The full-size double rooms that I looked into, (nosey as I am), were a very good size indeed however with bath and everything so I will return next time to a full-size room. Without the small room syndrome it would have been 'excellent' all the way. Highly recommended!
Review 105:The Staff and owner The Beds (very comfortable). The Food The Shower The Cleanliness The Situation The town itself. Fellow guests
Review 106:Clean airy room, wi-fi free, comfy bed, excellent shower with lashings of hot water. Gluten free sausages and bread available for divine full english breakfast. An excellent one night stay.
Review 107:Lack of on site parking but this isn't a problem at all in the evenings, but if you were staying for a week, you'd need to make external arrangements. This is however, very clear when you book and parking is cheap in a nearby car park anyway.
Review 108:Luxury Bathroom Products FOC Location Extremely polite host Suggestions on where to eat Offered advice on locality Very clean COMFY bed!
Review 109:No table in room , only one chair , this was due to rooms size . Metered parking outside from 0900 to 1800 . There is free parking at local shopping centre a few minutes walk away
