Reviews for The Corbet Arms
Review 1:Maintenance of little bits in the room is required. When you look closely there are little broken bits
Review 2:Good food, amazing beds and good comfort in the rooms.
Review 3:Nothing, all good
Review 4:Great place to stay, like being at home, warm and comfy. This is the second time I've stayed here and look forward to the next visit already.
Review 5:Noisy fan from downstairs kept going on during first night which kept us awake 2 nd night we complained and it was turned off but came back on a few minutes latter and stayed on until 1135pm Breakfast was poor, in a very drafty room and expensive. Toilet seat was lose and although we complained and it was tightened it was lose again in seconds. Needs fixing properly.
Review 6:Good size room Excellent bed, very comfortable Shower excellent
Review 7:Requested for a room with a river view. They said there are no rooms facing the river. Went to the back of the hotel and saw a river! Staff is kind of aloof friendly......??? but could have been a warmer welcome.
Review 8:It is quite a clean sort of country side cottage style hotel situated near the river. Food was good. Country side style sort of farm food.
Review 9:The need to keep the windows closed at night to keep out any riverside spiders or insects (air con cooling provided though)
Review 10:The warm welcome The smartly furnished comfortable rooms. Underfloor heating in bathroom Comfortable 4 poster bed The good meal choice, even on a Sunday night. The varied well-priced wine list The range of breakfast options, additionally priced but cooked to order. The view over the river and countryside
Review 11:Nothing, but there were 40 steps up to our room. No problem for us but needs to be considered if anyone thinking of staying here has mobility issues.
Review 12:Lovely bedroom and a quality evening meal.
Review 13:The two mature women that 'greeted' us when we arrived at reception were abrupt and rude. Kept us waiting way too long to check in and they wasn't even busy. Didn't even show us to our room and it wasn't "straight in front of us" like we were told!!
Review 14:The room was immaculately clean. Stayed two nights and the room was cleaned with fresh towels on the second day. Bed was comfy. Younger bar staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 15:We thought the room rate should include breakfast. The breakfast charges seemed to be a tad expensive when the value of dinner was good.
Review 16:The superior room was comfortable, very clean and quiet considering that we stayed the last Friday and Saturday before Christmas. We did not hear any of the parties below.
Review 17:Bathroom fan stays on too long
Review 18:Got there late, even though kitchens were closed still fixed us something to eat. The rooms were probably to best for the price I've stayed in, and we're worth double the rate
Review 19:The room was a bit noisy as the heating cut in and out through the night. Also pity that you have to go outside to get in the bar and dining area - fine in the summer but a pain on a cold November night
Review 20:Lovely view and you have to try the food!
Review 21:A couple of the bar staff were a bit grumpy
Review 22:Sue and her husband the owners of the corbet arms were fab. Took time out to chat with us at the bar showing us pictures of before they owned the place.
Review 23:I'm fairly fit but a consideration for anyone staying there, there are quite a few stairs if you're on the top floor and no lift. So would suggest if you're not used to stairs you need ask if you can have a room lower down. But that should not put you off, it is a nice place.
Review 24:Great location for meetings in Shrewsbury but you are a little way out of town. Nice bar food and friendly staff. Although a pud in the countryside there was no noise in the room, and the room was very comfortable with well chosen furniture and furnishings. Lovely room and nice view of the river Severn.
Review 25:Evening menu a little over priced but wouldn't stop me from eating there again.
Review 26:Gorgeous views from the well sized room that had a very large and comfortable bed. The staff were very friendly and understanding, and efficiently dealt with a small issue that I had. Would definitely stay again, very quiet area.
Review 27:Nothing it was a pleasurable stay. If was to raise anything our breakfast table was very close to the next table. I felt I was intruding on their conversation as I could hear everything.
Review 28:Room was comfortable, well furnished tasteful
Review 29:As others have mentioned - although I didn't have an issue - if you're not keen on stairs this probably isn't the place for you.
Review 30:Friendly, clean, comfortable, good food and very close to Shrewsbury
Review 31:Not applicable
Review 32:The hotel was clean, comfy and very modern! Our bed was perfect and the staff where very friendly and welcoming! Rate this hotel very highly!
Review 33:Country pub by the river looking towards Shrewsbury. We were upgraded to a large room with fine views of the river and the meadows. No problems with noise, very clean modern rooms, very friendly staff. Excellent breakfast and a rather large Sunday roast for dinner.
Review 34:Our only comment is that our room had a wonderful view across the river and although on the second floor there were quite a few stairs to reach the rooms - elderly or those with a heart condition may find this difficult as there did not appear to be a lift
Review 35:Excellent location near A5 and A49 with friendly and efficient staff. Quiet, clean and comfortable hotel with excellent menu and food.
Review 36:The staff were welcoming and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The room was spotlessly clean and the bed comfortable. It was a very cold night but the room and bathroom were very cosy.
Review 37:Would have liked fresh fruit and yoghurts to be available at breakfast, and it seemed a little mean to only supply one small packet of biscuits on the refreshments tray when two people were in the room. (sorry, I'm being very unkind here as it in no way spoilt our stay)
Review 38:Everything was perfect. Lots of car parking space, and a spacious room with a lovely bathroom complete with toiletries, a wardrobe, comfy chairs, large television and a huge comfortable bed. Everywhere was clean and tidy with lovely views from our window. The best place we have stayed in for some time.
Review 39:Was hot in room and unable to adjust to cooler. Shower was easy to use but doors appeared to have been abused by others. Small issues mentioned to staff as help to remedy and maintain property but not as a complaint as they were so helpful.
Review 40:Great staff from cleaning to restaurant and premises so very clean throughout. We would stay again
Review 41:The location and views were great. The staff were very helpful. The breakfast was everything you needed after a night parting. The Hotel was very clean.
Review 42:Lovely rooms - nice and clean and staff members very pleasant. We were attending a wedding reception the night of our stay and Stacy from the bar kindly organised our taxi for us without any fuss - very impressed.
Review 43:There was a lovely walk by the river into Shrewsbury and then when we returned we ate in the hotel which provided excellent service and delicious food.
Review 44:Breakfast experience - poor atmosphere, poor service, bacon burnt on one dish and cold on another.
Review 45:Excellent furniture and decor, fab views, soft towels, really comfortable bed. Restaurant meals are good.
Review 46:Initial room was appalling due to that room being allocated to Bookings.com We changed to a better room which cost more. Never again will we book a hotel through your website
Review 47:Friendly staff.
Review 48:The quality of the breakfast served on the Friday was not good. Remarks as follows:- Toast only cooked on one side and cold, could not spread hard butter. Sausages undercooked and pink in the middle. Egg yoke and white still running clear. Saturday marginally better but still had to return sausages for more grilling.
Review 49:The staff, cleaners and waiters were very helpful and polite particularly the ladies that cleaned our room which was room 6 on both days.
Review 50:The friendliness of the staff. Everyone was so warm & welcoming. The dinners in the restaurant were excellent and the service offered by Jacob and the other staff was exemplary.
Review 51:We would suggest that a shelf would be handy for putting your toiletries on in the bathroom.
Review 52:Lovely place to stay, location fantastic, rooms lovely and comfortable, staff very friendly and helpful. Would recommend to friends if they could manage the stairs.
Review 53:Placement of toilet roll,no soap dish in shower, miserable breakfast, ie check out Ibis Budget hotels, better value for money!
Review 54:Great spacious room with great view
Review 55:Breakfast not being served until 8.30am on Saturday and Sunday
Review 56:The friendly helpful staff and the location within a quiet small village. The room was excellent as was the meal in the restaurant. 10 out of 10 from me.
Review 57:There are no complaints whatsoever.
Review 58:Everything about our visit here was perfect. Staff, incl. Stacey, Margo, and Arien, were very friendly and helpful. Room was great, a joy to come back to in the afternoon. The bed was the most comfortable. Everything was very clean. If we're ever back in this part of the world will definitely stay here again. 12 out of 10 points to all the staff and the property. Highly recommend it.
Review 59:4 flights of stairs to get to room with luggage. Ok for the young & fit but for 70 y.o not so good. Breakfast- understaffed, limited range- no fruit or yoghurt TV reception poor or non existent for our room
Review 60:Staff were delightful. Dinners great - very generous Location just outside of main town was ideal Views across the river to Shrewsbury in distance from bedroom ,were delightful
Review 61:Really slow wi-fi. Not their fault, but frustrating all the same. The stairs up to the top (third) floor would tax some less agile guests Not sure whether the mashed potato with the evening meal was reconstituted potato (Smash.)
Review 62:Bedroom block obviously newly refurbished - and to a good standard. Delightful view from the bedroom window. Good evening meal - loin of pork from the specials board. Didn't have breakfast, so no comment
Review 63:The staff were really helpful and the Hotel had a good atmosphere. We were able to order a Taxi to take us into Shrewsbury at a cost of £5. Excellent location and the food, wine and beer were really good.
Review 64:The cheerfulness of all the staff and the quick and efficient service they gave. Lovely little unspoilt village on the edge of Shrewsbury with beautiful views from the terrace restuarant.
Review 65:This is a really top class hotel for the price. I have stayed in others that cost a lot more and were not nearly as nice. The family room was really spacious the beds were wonderfully comfortable. Staff very friendly. Will stay there again.
Review 66:Room bit tiny and rather hot and no lift dispenser been recently renovated and expanded. Also the food in the restaurant of the hotel not great .
Review 67:Good location for visiting Shrewsbury, or getting back to Birmingham . Room well presented & staff helpful.
Review 68:No lift to rooms and no ground floor rooms. You had to go outside to get back into the bar/restaurant from your room
Review 69:Lovely rooms, great bar area and outside area
Review 70:The only slight negative was that not all breakfast items were available but we only found this out after our food arrived; normally I would expect our waitress to inform us of this in advance (especially as we had asked for that specific item) however the breakfast was still very good.
Review 71:Very comfortable bed and high quality decor throughout the pub and accommodation. Lovely bar area and restaurant area and lovely views. I felt very relaxed after just one nights stay and would definitely return. I rang to confirm our group would not be arriving to check in until after 10pm and there were no issues with this.
Review 72:In a lovely location, Uffington is a little village very close to Attingham Park, a large National Trust property with lovely walks through a deer park. The hotel is adjoined to a pub/restaurant which looks Georgian. The hotel however seems brand new - it was absolutely spotless and gleaming! We had room 5 which was very large with views across the bowling green and a (very quiet) patio, where you could sit out and have a drink. The bed was extremely comfortable, lovely bedding and the room spotless. We liked the place so much, we booked in an extra night which we spent in room 6, which was smaller but had a four poster bed and a bigger bathroom than 5. The breakfast was large and well presented and good value for £15 for the two of us. The staff all lovely. Excellent stay - we will definately return!
Review 73:Check-in process was a bit confusing. Bar staff had to explain I needed to be 'at the computer' to check-in; 42 stairs to the top floor (Rooms #8, #9, #10 and #11)
Review 74:Twin room was comfortable (#11) although a bit tight for two, but provided convenient toilet room separate from shower room; Staff was pleasant and welcoming; BnB was immaculately clean and very quiet; Dinner was good; included breakfast was bountiful (full English plus selection of juices, yogurts, cereals and fruits) - delicious!
Review 75:Wonderful room with views over the bowling green. All recently decorated and very comfortable. The restaurant/bar was also very well appointed, extremely comfortable and the food was excellent. This place is a hidden gem outside Shrewsbury.
Review 76:No bad experience at all
Review 77:Location was very quiet and peaceful. The meals were excellent quality and value. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Air conditioning in the room was a bonus.
Review 78:We were warned you need to keep the windows shut as there are many midges coming up from the river. Didn't like paying separately for breakfast.
Review 79:Lovely rooms modern and comfortable.
Review 80:Nice friendly welcome by helpful, kind staff. All areas of hotel were very clean and tidy. Room 5 was extremely spacious, with huge bed and glorious views over the River Severn and surrounding area.
Review 81:Easy to find location, very friendly welcome on arrival by staff, clean, well-appointed family room with well-equipped kitchen and up-to-date ensuite. Fluffy towels and complimentary toiletries also very welcome.
Review 82:Nothing!
Review 83:Friendly helpful and efficient staff for checking in drinking eating and breakfast Lovely comfy room. Couldn't fault the whole experience. Thanks for a lovely weekend
Review 84:No complaints or suggestions - The Corbett Arms is a very well run and pleasant hotel.
Review 85:A very friendly staff and clean, pleasant pub style small hotel. I would definitely return there.
Review 86:Little bit noisy in the pub below but this died down about 10. It was mainly due to it being a lovely evening and families being outside enjoying themselves!
Review 87:Enormous bed, clean bathroom and a luxurious feel to everything. Staff were both friendly and helpful.
Review 88:Lovely twin room with great views. Really thought the separate toilet was a nice idea. Shower cubicle was spacious with plenty of hot water. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room. Option on breakfast which we took and enjoyed.
Review 89:at breakfast the couple next to us were offered a second coffee and also had 2 slices of toast each. We had just one small coffee and one small slice of toast. Also there was no plate in which to butter our toast and we had to find a member of staff to ask for a butter knife.
Review 90:Not a problem for us but there is no lift and our room was on the upper floor. There was also a strong smell of varnish as the wooden beams had recently been repainted.
Review 91:Stayed for three nights. Comfortable cosy twin room with great views of the River Severn. Lovely rural location ideal for visiting nearby Shrewsbury.
Review 92:The room was lovely, the staff were very helpful and friendly and the food in the pub is also excellent. Will definitely be staying there again.
Review 93:Bathroom too small with no shelf to place toiletries on and no where to place undies except on the floor of the bathroom The room was cleaned for the next guests whilst we were at breakfast and before we had vacated the room.
Review 94:Its location, close to Shrewsbury and surrounding country side. Air conditioning in the room.
Review 95:We loved staying here! The staff were all just wonderful, so friendly and accommodating. The food was quite good, and the bed was very comfortable. We would definitely stay here again.
Review 96:Booking.com should have made it clear that the accommodation rooms are not suitable for those with limited mobility. The rooms are several flights up and, because it is an old building, there is no lift. Also they overdo it on instruction signs, making it feel a bit like school!
Review 97:Lovely helpful friendly staff. Best ribeye steak I've had in years.
Review 98:One of our party had a choking fit and had to dash outdoors, the staff were very helpful, they came to offer help, brought tissues, water and lemon in soda, asked if we required a Dr or other help. In fact we considered they went beyond the call of duty which was really appreciated. The staff were very pleasant and friendly. Could not praise them enough, many many thanks from the quests from New Zealand.
Review 99:The picture available on booking.com does not do justice to this hotel. Can only assume it was an old photo, taken before the hotel was refurbished
Review 100:This was a very nice hotel with friendly staff. Had our evening meal here, very good food at a reasonable price.
Review 101:An excellent place to stay on business in Shrewsbury. Very clean and tidy establishment in a pleasant village on the River Severn, a little way from Shrewsbury centre. I think there's 10 rooms here. Mine had a huge king size bed, practical furniture, well presented bathroom with decent shower. Air conditioning was useful. Even though its June, the whole building was very warm. Pub itself is very well presented and a good tempting menu at decent prices. A pleasant atmosphere and good service from all the staff. Much much better alternative to the 'standard' hotel options. Would definitely stay again.
Review 102:Food for 12 superb and great value for money served by a wonderful waitress who showed patience, humour, adaptability and professionalism. Bedroom spotless, very comfortable and huge comfy bed. Breakfast... again, waitress willing to adapt set options to accommodate our wishes. Very good professional service.
Review 103:Well on our second night stay we had a superior double room and found that we couldn't sleep very well because the landing light kept coming on throughout the night.
Review 104:Everything, friendly staff, clean and food well that was something else, out of this world. Got lots of it and reasonably priced.
Review 105:The location is just outside the lovely town of Shrewsbury and was in a quiet part of the village, just beside the river. The rooms were large enough and bathrooms had a full bath. The restaurant in the Inn provided us with a lovely meal without having to venture to town. Breakfast was made of good quality local products.
Review 106:Climbing four flights of stairs to a small bedroom(#7) which was almost claustrophobic. Apart from dinner, breakfast was served in the most off-hand manner mostly from a buffet.
Review 107:Location and cleanliness
Review 108:The room was rather cramped with nowhere to sit other than the bed or a hard chair. Breakfast bread was good but perhaps a choice of less sliced bread toast would not be beyond possibility. I lost a crown on the crust!
Review 109:The cleanliness, and quiet and the plentifulness of hot water for washing etc.
Review 110:Breakfast was very basic, although they did accommodate by Gluten free diet.
Review 111:Good place to,stop off on a longer journey and very convenient for Shrewsbury. Evening meal was very good.
Review 112:Nothing to complain about.
Review 113:Staff very friendly and approachable. View from room breathtaking. Facilities excellent. Very clean and comfortable. Tasty food.
Review 114:The only down side was the air conditioning being in the top rooms it was very stuffy and not being able to open the windows meant having to use air con but because other rooms on the top floor had their air con on heat it meant that my room had to be on heat as well so had to put up with a fan going all night as had to turn air con off.
Review 115:Great place to stay location is excellent and the views over the river are magnificent.Staff very helpful and the food in the restaurant is well worth trying as is the breakfast will stay again when in the area.
Review 116:Nothing to comment on really although fresh fruit/ yogurt option would have been nice for breakfast.
Review 117:The friendliness of the staff. The immaculate state of every area. The food at dinner, especially the availability of a cheeseboard. 'Real' bread used for toast at breakfast. The size and position of the TV in the room - no squinting or craning of neck required.
Review 118:The location was beautiful, overlooking the river. We found our stay very relaxing, staff were very polite friendly and helpful. The food was amazing. We will be returning.
Review 119:Being told that we needed to book a table for our evening meal and then arriving to an empty restaurant because they had run out of most food choices.
Review 120:The accommadation,location and wifi
Review 121:The Corbet Arms was an absolute joy to stay at - the staff were fabulous - nothing was too much trouble and they ensured our stay was comfortable and memorable. We would definitely stay there again. Food was exactly as we wanted and good value. The location being a couple of miles outside of Shrewsbury was perfect - after a day's touring the area, it was pure heaven to sit in the sun on the raised rear patio, with a pint of Golden Thread. I just wish it was possible to buy this excellent beer down here in Herts!
Review 122:I enjoyed the meal we had at the restaurant but the waiting staff were a bit indifferent and we spent quite a lot of time towards the end of the meal waiting around. Breakfast wasn't great and seemed expensive for what it was.
Review 123:The room was lovely and large and the bed very comfortable. Also it was nice to have a normal sized TV as opposed to the small ones you usually get in b&bs. We had a nice welcome on arrival.
Review 124:Very welcoming friendly staff. The location was peaceful and quiet. The accommodation was very comfortable clean and secure. The food and the service in the restaurant was top class.
Review 125:Air con wasn't working on first night and quite uncomfortable. But was sorted out for second night with no fuss.
Review 126:Room was very good, with huge bed and view of river
The Fine Print
Please note that rooms are on a room-only basis, but guests can order breakfast at check-in.
