Reviews for Hotel Continental

Review 1:That I only booked one night!!!

Review 2:The staff were lovely, you could tell they enjoyed working there. The room was small but had everything I needed in it. The bed was really comfy. The breakfast was the best hotel buffet breakfast I've ever had... The location was great - definitely going back!

Review 3:Only weird thing was our room had no hanging space, wardrobe or hangers, until we asked for some which they happily provided but clothes hanging from window shutters was a bit odd... the room was big enough to have space it just wasn't there...otherwise room good size bathroom enormous..

Review 4:Quiet beachside frontage and not too far from 'town.'.

Review 5:No Wardrobe , which for one night was not an issue , but I would not be too impressed if I was staying longer. My collegue also did not have one

Review 6:Food was good

Review 7:Rooms are quite 'bijou' and the bathroom takes a little manoeuvreing around. The bar/restaurant staff were less than attentive and didn't tell us that we had to order at the bar, although the supervisor did serve us at the table the waiter then failed to put vegetables on the table at the same time as the steak and it was all a little chaotic and slipshod - alittle disappointing considering the price.

Review 8:Room very clean and comfortable, good facilities within the room and appreciated the binoculars with the sea view. Very helpful reception staff and we appreciated the upgraded room as it was a 50th birthday weekend treat.

Review 9:I think the prices are quite high for what was quite a small room albeit with balcony and sea view. Beware too an extra charge for more than 6 people eating at the same table ~ I think it is 6~surely the more people the more takings. If we had all sat at tables for two next to each other where is the difference. I found that very annoying.

Review 10:The location, a sea view room is the best. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the breakfast has loads of choices. We did not have dinner this time but have eaten there before and it has been very good.

Review 11:Somewhat limited menu & under-staffed at dinner time -- but then it was mid-winter, very much off-season. And the food that was on offer was very good.

Review 12:We stayed off-season, for business. Since the weather and work kept us indoors it gave us a chance to admire the high quality of the decor: from the custom wooden shutters to the panelling to the joinery in our cupboard, this hotel has been finished to the highest possible standard. Toasty warm room even in the dead of winter, proper bedding. Friendly staff who upgraded us to a room with a view.

Review 13:It was our first visit and reception was a bit matter-of-fact. Maybe the boys were shy or expected us to know where everything was. Ditto, going into breakfast the next morning.

Review 14:The view from our room. General cleanliness and freshness in the rooms and public spaces Spaciousness in the public rooms Breakfast - once we found where everything was!

Review 15:Small unclean room , only one side table no lamp, no phone , toilet too close to sleeping area , under bed not cleaned eg food/wrappers , unfinished paint/ plaster in room , room smelt of white spirit and paint

Review 16:Location

Review 17:Poor choice in restaurant and I helpfulness of staff. We were woken at midnight by people in next room holding a party. Rooms need sound proofing

Review 18:The sea view

Review 19:We slept in Room 6 and found the room to be a little small. The basin in the en suite was too small and needs to be changed. There is insufficient light to enable one to have a decent shave.

Review 20:Nearly all the hotel bedrooms had been refurbished and we found our stay there to be a pleasant one. If visiting Whitstable again we would book there again. We had an evening meal there which was very good and also found the breakfasts to be good as well.

Review 21:The dining room needed a refurb. but we were warned of this before our arrival and did not affect the enjoyment of our short break

Review 22:Friendly and helpful staff at a hotel ideally situated for visiting the town [ 3/4 minutes stroll to the High Street ] and to the seawall walk - 20 yards away . The sea views at breakfast were marvellous

Review 23:The room was very small hardly room to put the case in and get around the bed. The cost was very expensive for what was a tiny room overlooking the back. the hotel tell me that this may have been due to booking through booking.com as it would have been cheaper to book through them disappointed with booking.com.

Review 24:The location is very good convenient for the town and the beach. Breakfast is very good with choice of a very good fry-up or Kippers.

Review 25:Room 20 with a sea view was actually really cold due to the high winds last weekend. Even though the windows are new, the wind was whistling through the room and the one small radiator couldn't cope. We asked for a heater and reception brought one up promptly and that sorted the temperature. Room was callled deluxe but we thought was really rather cramped for this description.

Review 26:Hotel in a wonderful location on the beach front. Friendly staff at the bar and in the restaurant - relaxed atmos. Breakfast was good. A good range of things to eat. Very informal and kippers fried to order. Prices in the bar and restaurant we thought better value than some others in town.

Review 27:Small negative is bear in mind that a the hotel is being refurbished. So you will notice filler marks and different colured walls.

Review 28:The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. We were lucky to have a refurbished room facing the sea front. Which was very well presented and extremely quiet.

Review 29:I liked the breakfast, but the food was a bit too tepid for my taste.

Review 30:I liked the local beer. The oysters were to die for. The kitchen laid on a really good fish dinner. And the staff were nice too.

Review 31:We were in room 17 right at the top of the hotel - it was very noisy (something banging in the wind I think and thin walls). Went to breakfast, food was OK but ran out of cutlery/crockery and room key didn't work when we went back as it had 'timed out' (or so we were told) - this was at 10.30 and checkout was at 11am....

Review 32:Very friendly, helpful staff - especially the night porter - it was clean enough and great location.

Review 33:We were on the top floor and there was no lift. My partner has a heart condition and struggled with the stairs

Review 34:The sea view was great. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice.

Review 35:The budget rooms are not well insulated from noise and are very small one night is enough in these rooms as there is no room for cloths. To be fair they are renovating this part of the hotel right now.

Review 36:The staff where really nice apart from one person. The breakfast is top quality also the location is great. The little extras in the room are a nice touch such as the high quality tea bags and biscuits.

Review 37:We were a party of 4 - 2 couples on a cycling tour. We both paid the same price for our rooms; one was quite large withe a sea view (including a very welcome set of binoculars) and huge bathroom. The other was quite small with a view of the roof(!) and a small bathroom with a cracked sink.

Review 38:Very tasty breakfast. Attentive and pleasant staff. Bike narration which to tie our bikes. Clean and comfortable

Review 39:Refurbishment of corridors and carpeting not completed. Corridors bit of a warren, poor signage back to reception and bar.

Review 40:Excellent breakfast, nice relaxed atmosphere, plenty of attentive and friendly staff.

Review 41:This is a hotel undergoing a complete refurbishment. For a 3 star hotel, there was no lift and no porter service and so there is a need to carry luggage up at least two flights of stairs and through a series of door and corridors if your room was at the top, as was mine. It was only because I asked that a member of the kitchen staff carried up one of my bags. I also appeared to pay the same price for a standard room that had not yet been refurbished and I did not see how this was equitable. Small touches perhaps, but tissues were not replenished, no ashtrays outside for smokers, no toilet rolls in the downstairs toilet of the reception area and only one working toilet.

Review 42:The staff were helpful, pleasant and responsive. Breakfast was satisfactory, but the dining area dated and limited.

Review 43:Nothing not to like about the hotel.

Review 44:The location for our purposes was excellent, approximately 300 metres from our wedding venue. The breakfast was excellent and so to were the staff, friendly and courteous.

Review 45:But it was really noisy! Wooden floors and people above clumping around until after 2am - sound proofing is really poor. For this reason sadly would not choose to stay there again. Also only fried eggs at breakfast is a bit unusual in these health conscious times

Review 46:The location and the room are lovely -

Review 47:breakfast wasn't good - didnt use fresh ingredients. Tasteless sausage, egg & bacon. Incredients not cooked fresh to order, but re-heated on hot plate. Mushrooms out of tin, rather than fresh. Bathroom felt rather cramped, especially for price - was expecting more!

Review 48:The view

Review 49:Terrible breakfast ( buffet ) don't ask for coffee. A room so small you could hardly turn round No internet in our bedroom No pressure in the shower Public toilets not good We did have a tiny balcony but 2 grotty chairs ( no table)

Review 50:Good location + parking if you arrive early

Review 51:Standard of housekeeping could have been a little better Think there is a difference between 'awaiting renovation' and 'shabby'. e,g the curtains were shredded, no chairs in room, had to pick up one up from the landing outside, no where to put anything down , only one bedside lamp Room was extremely small for 2 adults Minimal hanging space.

Review 52:Great location; near the castle for a wedding and close to harbour and restaurants and town centre. Small room, but clean and lovely and nice balcony. Lovely breakfast.

Review 53:Could do with a few bucket and spades to lend out -

Review 54:Perfect -relaxed but very attentive staff -have a child with multiple good allergies -cooked us anything we asked for that wasn't even in menu -

Review 55:The 'superior sea view' room (and bed) sizes are not 'extra large' as described on booking.com - standard double at best. The Hotel suggested I write to booking.com about it - seems their problem not mine, they did eventually reduce my bill a little. The second room (booked for my son & wife) had to have the bed changed because the sheets, though clean, were liberally dusted with long black hairs. 2 or 3 of the restaurant staff were more interested in their social life than their guests. We booked a cot in one of the two rooms and confirmed it at check-in but it never materialised. Also, our 'superior' room was too small to accommodate a cot - this wasn't mentioned at any point.

Review 56:Great location, overall a good experience, would stay here again. The majority of the staff were excellent, helpful and friendly. Breakfast and dinner were both good.

Review 57:Room 17 very small but well decorated to make the best of the space and nice to have balcony. Shower looked very nice but low pressure.

Review 58:Newly decorated room, very well done.great location and very friendly and helpful staff.

Review 59:Lack of parking info paid £4 to park out front then told of an over flow park after the lady did offer complementary drinks nice gesture

Review 60:Great location nice breakfast

Review 61:Lovely staff, great location with sea view rooms. Nice breakfast with choice. The restaurant served really nice food, well presented and generous plate. I would definitively recommend Hotel Continental. Perfect get away to relax and enjoy yourself by the sea.

Review 62:Some cracked tiles in bathroom but understood that not all rooms had not yet been refurbished. Still a nice room

Review 63:Location-helpful staff and lots of them!

Review 64:impossible to find the way in on arriving at 10pm and staff not particularly helpful Pool very loud music on a loop! Breakfast not good

Review 65:Large pool and private beach. Don't forget your swimming hat!

Review 66:No hairdryer, and this was not sent up, despite having requested one. Nowhere to store any hanging clothes. Rattly windows which we had to block up, to stop the noise. Huge bed in a medium sized room, which left little space to move around.

Review 67:Great location, nice staff. Decent breakfast.

Review 68:No bad experience but was disappointed with the power (or lack of) of the shower.

Review 69:Room was very nice, overlooking the sea. Nice and bright. Not massive but enough room. Would definitely stay again. Only a short walk into town, this was a big plus for us as we didn't want to keep driving everywhere.

Review 70:Advertises free parking, this should be stated as limited free parking as car park has only 5-6 spaces! Was lucky enough to get free parking on a nearby street however this was not ideal.

Review 71:Great location, lovely breakfast and simple but comfortable room.

Review 72:It is an area to improve rather than didnt like. I think the variety on the menu could be extended if yhe hotel would like us to eat there more.

Review 73:The location is just the best in Whitstable

Review 74:Room was very small - no room for bags. Barely able to walk round bed. Bathroom also small.

Review 75:The room was clean and the bed comfortable. Nice touch having the decking with chairs outside. Shower worked well

Review 76:Value for money (£185 per room B&B a bit steep even though the view was excellent I always prefer a bath (we had big shower - very slippery floor - almost dangerous) but baths seems to be disappearing

Review 77:Location, seaview, nice lounge /bar/light breakfast room, relaxed atmosphere, refurbished bedroom

Review 78:Pleasant hotel in an excellent location needs a little work in places.tasty breakfast and pleasant staff.comfortable bed but limited parking for clients.

Review 79:Newly refurbished room are clean fresh and very comfortable. Excellent meal in the restaurant and a 10 min stroll along the front to the centre of town.

Review 80:A rather quirky rule of the hotel is that no one can check in until 3.00 pm. It was 2.00 pm and we were soaked to the skin but no we could not check in, even if the room was ready until 3.00 pm. We were told some ridiculous nonsense about the hoovers being out on the landings. Killer hoovers was a first for us!!! Very Whitstable!

Review 81:Although our room was small it had been recently refurbished to a high standard with a beachy theme. The bar and restaurant areas were somewhat scruffy - it was a real surprise to have such lovely appointed rooms.

Review 82:I took my own top sheet and thin blanket as the hotel could not provide them. Duvets are impossibly hot in summer and I cannot understand why hotels (not just this one) provide no alternative.

Review 83:Helpful staff. Free parking. No traffic noise at night. Seafront location within walking distance of harbour

Review 84:No hanging space for clothes which wasn't a problem as we were only there for 1 night, think this would be an issue if staying longer

Review 85:Very comfortable room. excellent breakfast

Review 86:Stayed for a friends wedding, friendly staff with ridgid policies.Although rooms must have obviously been cleaned as the day progressed noone checks in before 3pm. With a large group all attending a weddingthis left families changing in reception/ toilets etc. Managmentneed to read a book by Richard Branson and be a little more helpful.

Review 87:In a beautiful location looking out over the sea. Quiet end offthe seafront.

Review 88:Tiny room (even though we were kindly upgraded by the nice lady at the desk), no soundproofing in the hotel, terrible smell of urine in the hall and stairwell (a lady brandished a very dirty pipe during breakfast - without gloves on- to show she was trying to fix the sewage problem), sticky floors in the breakfast hall, no nets at curtains so had to have shutters closed on a boiling hot day.

Review 89:Great location opposite the sea.

Review 90:a lift would have been nice - perhaps a chair lift on the first flight? No unpleasant experiences and in fact the opposite is true. doi

Review 91:position and friendliness of staff and we've never seen a hotel so clean - not a speck of dust anywhere

Review 92:The service behind the bar at lunch time was painfully slow even though it wasn't at all busy.

Review 93:The newly decorated bedroom was lovely. The views were great and the breakfast was really good. Value for money.

Review 94:Nothing

Review 95:I liked our newly refurbished room and our own balcony with deck chairs. The bar had a good atmosphere with tables outside looking at the sea. Breakfast was delightful with doors open to the terrace. Easy stroll into the town centre.

Review 96:Trekking up loads of stairs - all the fried hot food from breakfast - had two dinners, not good standard. No wardrobe in the bedroom and no bars to the bath, so dangerous and only used once.

Review 97:The view from my room.

Review 98:There were 2 rooms on our floor with decorating / building works taking place. This was a little disruptive, we weren't warned or offered any discount for this.

Review 99:The strictness of the check in time was ridiculous. Was a real pain and I don't believe every room is ready at the exact same time so it just seems really petty. How inflexible they were on this would put me off staying again.

Review 100:Didn't like the town that much. It's been messed up with industry on the beach of all places. Why put a huge cement factory on the beach, the heart of a seaside town. Crazy. Plus horrible red brick municipal type buildings hogging the sea views.

Review 101:The hotel is great and you don't really need to leave it. Food and views are very good and the staff are very pleasant. The hotel is spacious and beautifully decorated in a modern but classic tasteful way.

Review 102:The hotel is undergoing a refurbishment and our room hadn't been done yet. It was, quite frankly, rather grotty. If you're visiting in the next few months, I suggest you check whether your room has been refurbished yet!

Review 103:Fantastic position with wonderful views, friendly staff, great breakfast.

Review 104:Our room was at the back of the hotel - lovely because it was very quiet, but we were a bit alarmed to see all the scaffolding just outside the window. There was also no wardrobe in the room so only a few hangers to put things on, which then hung over the small drawer unit. Overly priced for the room facilities, although the bathroom was nice.

Review 105:All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the dining areas were lovely with great views of the sea. The bed was comfortable and the room clean.

Review 106:A little remote from the main town of Whistable, being beyond the harbour, but still only a 10 minute walk away. For some, this could be a benefit, if the seaside is your reason for being there. The clothes hanging arrangement, over the chest of drawers on which the tea making facilities were positioned was not ideal, never mind that the lead on the kettle was not long enough so had to put it on the floor to use it.

Review 107:An ideal position right beside the sea, pleasant staff, comfortable room, spacious bar area looking out to sea and a glorious sunset

Review 108:the lock on our bedroom door was not working properly, so, on occasions we had to leave the room unlocked. Not good.

Review 109:We liked the decor, the location and friendly staff. You could see the potential of the hotel,. as currently it's undergoing improvements

Review 110:Arrived pre 3pm on day and went into bar for a drink. Unfortunately, there was a delay and frustration as orders were delivered to wrong tables and there were general delays. Apart from that, nothing really

Review 111:Location was excellent. Also had parking which is a must for Whitstable if arriving mid afternoon. Breakfast buffet was great and the use of local produce is to be commended

Review 112:Bed a bit soft and saggy. WiFi non-existant in bedroom which was a shame as 3G signal very poor.

Review 113:Staff very friendly, chatty and helpful. Room very modern and well thought out. Make-up mirror, lighting, seats on balcony, binoculars!

Review 114:Fire alarm went off, my partner had already exited hotel, but seems staff were lacking in any kind of knowledge of fire procedure. I was on top floor and at no time did any member of staff do a guest count let alone check floors to make sure guests were leaving rooms - this needs to be addressed in the event of a real emergency and safety of guests and staff alike

Review 115:Excellent breakfasts, lots of choice and good quality food, enjoyed the sea view and ease of car parking

Review 116:Evening meals not so good.

Review 117:We were very lucky to be given room 21 overlooking the sea. Very comfy although not yet refurbished. Great staff and amazing breakfasts.

Review 118:Not much hanging space for our clothes , so if we had been staying for longer we may have had s problem We were in the older part of hotel so hopefully that may change if they renovate and modernise that part

Review 119:Location , close to town and just on the beach Welcoming staff

Review 120:No information in room about local attractions. No extra blankets in room

Review 121:Some staff were very helpful and friendly others not! Great view from bedroom window.

Review 122:Blood stain on our quilt cover No blinds on bathroom window Broken tiles in bathroom Although £10 disc give still felt as last min book £75 a lot

Review 123:Room we were given very small & tired ,stained carpet , chipped tiles and grout in bathroom Work being done so scaffold outside window . No offer to move as we had booked a standard room.

Review 124:Good location

Review 125:Would have been nice to relax in a comfortable lounge, and please have two toasters working at breakfast to speed up the process

Review 126:Hotel is being tastefully refurbished Perfect location with sea view and car parking which is a premium in Whitstable. Very comfortable beds with crisp clean bed linen and fluffy towels. Substantial breakfast, in fact everything we needed for a short stay. We have booked again which is testament to our enjoyment.

Review 127:Staff at desk were friendly and helpful, however, did not have many suggestions for dinner off the main strip, in the end we asked some locals. Also, breakfast staff were not very attentive. The cooked breakfast was very oily, but the uncooked items were good.

Review 128:The location was good, parking available, rooms were comfortable.

Review 129:No blind in bathroom No Wi-Fi upstairs Only one bedside light No electric socket near kettle tea and coffee Room door closers caused bedroom doors to slam shut Breakfast sausages appeared to have been precooked and then reheated

Review 130:Location Food other than breakfast Attitude and helpfulness of staff

Review 131:I can't think of anything

Review 132:The view of the sea from my balcony and the sash windows so I could open the window but have the shutters locked for security at night. The atmosphere. Helpful staff. The peace.

Review 133:Room too small for even a clothes rail. There was just a small bar coming out of the wall with 6 hangers Would not want this for more than one night.

Review 134:All linen was clean and bright and heating was very good during a cold evening and night.

Review 135:THE FIRST HOTEL WE HAVE STAYED WHERE THERE WAS NO WARDROBE IN THE ROOM. MY WIFE WAS NOT HAPPY TO FIND NO GIN IN THE BAR OR FOR MYSELF OYSTER STOUT.

Review 136:LOCATION AND FRIENDLINESS OF SAFF

Review 137:Mattress was to firm and lack of wardrobe we felt let the room down. Car wreck left in hotel car park space and scaffolding reduced parking.

Review 138:Having a room looking out to sea. The informality of the hotel and friendliness of staff.

Review 139:Room we were allocated was smaller than others to the point where there was not room for a wardrobe or hanging space.

Review 140:Breakfast was excellent and staff very friendly

Review 141:the room was described as deluxe non seaview It was one of the smallest double rooms I have ever stayed in. it was nicely refurbished but insufficient size for 2 people and their luggage. If I had known I would have paid extra for sea view as those rooms looked much bigger

Review 142:location, staff, breakfast were all good
