Reviews for The Carlton Manor Hotel

Review 1:Food-Carvery-even thought plenty portion and cheap etc ,it was cold and quite obviously been there all day.Was not offered any thing else to this on menu and wish I had eaten else where as it spoilt an other wise pleasant expirence.

Review 2:stayed for business mid week in Jan so very quiet.

Review 3:The night porter couldn't be reached by phone at 03:00 when we came back from town so a friend had to be woken to let us in the front door.

Review 4:The staff were fantastic from start to finish. They accommodated all 30+ of us fantastically all night. They even allowed us an extra hour in the morning for check out due to everyone being extremely hungover! Great food, rooms are extremely nice and everyone was welcoming! Highly recommended

Review 5:Nothing to add here!

Review 6:Booked in late just for one night as been let down by another hotel but this was a blessing in disguise as the reception staff were very friendly and processed our booking very quickly after a tiring day sightseeing the local area, upgrading us to the four poster bedroom with spa bath which was a lovely gesture.Excellent choices for tasty breakfast with local fresh produce. All round great experience!

Review 7:Very convenient location, excellent value, particularly the evening meal. Clean, well equipped rooms, and comfortable beds. Pleasant and helpful stall. Overall a great place to stay.

Review 8:The room we had was out side, it was a great space, well payed out, very clean. We had dinner in the hotel that night the food was beautiful, very good quality and the steaks were cooked how we wanted, we were welcomed and had a lovely evening. Breakfast in the morning was good.

Review 9:I chose to stay in a single room which, it transpired, had probably formerly been the bathroom in this Victorian house. It was a bit claustrophobic so would choose a double as a single next time.

Review 10:It was within half a mile of the friends I wanted to visit. It was in a lovely, quiet location with many trees around giving it a peaceful setting.

Review 11:Can find nothing to complain about

Review 12:From moment we set foot in the hotel everything was excellent. The staff could not do enough to please and senior management were always visible or available. Breakfast menu was extensive, everything cooked to order, good quality and quantity. Bar comfortable and well staffed, efficient and polite. The room was spacious, had plenty of storage and was spotless ( room 2 ) bathroom was adequate size, plenty of hot water and towels changed daily. Plenty of off road parking. Wifi worked in all areas of hotel.

Review 13:Booked table at 15.30 for evening meal, went down for meal at 19.30 to be told our table had been double booked only to find out it was given to people who just walked in for a meal. View from window was a flat roof.

Review 14:Staff very helpful and freindly

Review 15:Room 5 appreciate disabled, but drain in shower partially blocked so flooded wet room floor right up round the toilet.

Review 16:All staff extremely helpful and pleasaant

Review 17:We had a family room and the sofa bed has seen better days and was awful to sleep on

Review 18:A lovely modern look hotel. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was amazing

Review 19:There wasn't enough choice at breakfast time,no fresh fruit available. The room had inadequate storage space for a family room, for the price paid the children should have had proper beds rather than a fold out sofa bed which they shared.

Review 20:Room was spacious and clean

Review 21:Breakfast could be better. Check-out could be later.

Review 22:Very happy, helpful staff. Comfortable room. Heating! This was an unseasonably cold August night and the radiators were welcome. Lovely quiet location with loads of carparking space. Free wifi.

Review 23:I shared a twin room with my cousin which was very comfortable. However we were a little surprised to find we had a disabled bathroom. Had we been in wheelchairs it would have been ideal as the mirror above the sink was fitted to the level of a wheelchair but for an able bodied person we had to bend down to use it. Plus the toilet would have been ideal for someone with walking difficulties but for an able bodied person it was extremely uncomfortable as the toilet was raised and a 'bumper' pushed you forward. Having said this I assume there weren't any other twin rooms available and as we were only staying one night it wasn't worth mentioning at the time and because everything else was so good it didn't spoil our stay. Perhaps it would be worth stating when people book a twin room that the bathroom is fitted out for the disabled.

Review 24:The food was very good with plenty of choice.

Review 25:Great location, plenty of secure parking space, charming decor, good facilities, spacious yet cosy room - all excellent. Professional, friendly and helpful staff, delicious fresh food, plenty of choice for breakfast, lovely bar/restaurant downstairs with outdoor seating. Spotlessly clean and very comfortable. They even give you complimentary passes to a nearby fitness centre. And there is the fantastic East Anglia Transport Museum right next door!

Review 26:But in comparison, on leaving, very poor receptionist - off hand, did not look at me when talking to me - felt like I was an unwelcome customer at a busy supermarket checkout. Poor choice at breakfast - for the money would have expected more.

Review 27:Lovely person on reception when we arrived - could not be more helpful. Very impressed

Review 28:The green smoke alarm light in the bedroom was too bright and kept me awake.

Review 29:From the moment we arrived we were given plenty of attention by the staff despite the fact that there was a wedding taking place so they must have been busy. We ate a fantastic lunch outside the bar area where there was plenty of tables. The gardens at the front of the hotel were gorgeous in the sunshine. The breakfast was well cooked and the dining room was bright and airy.

Review 30:We had one problem with the main course of our evening meal. The pidgeon breast was very tough and excessively salted. No alternative was offered when we sent the course back.

Review 31:Although we were worried about disturbance from the wedding party occurring that weekend, there were no problems.

Review 32:Everything!! The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was 1st Class, and the food was terrific!! Will definitely stay next time in the area.

Review 33:I would like to see a hand rail in the shower of room 17 because the floor was very slippery once wet

Review 34:Excellent location for the Transport Museum which is what we went to see

Review 35:Waited over an hour for breakfast only one person serving in restaurant when food did arrive it was not of a good standard and missing some items from listed menu

Review 36:The only bad thing was the bed I think if I want to sleep on a bouncy castle I would have hired one

Review 37:Nice clean friendly staff modern looking would definitely stay again if the bed was a little harder and not as soft like a spong for a bouncy castle good value for money breakfast was lovely and the staff were great

Review 38:Nothing

Review 39:From the moment we arrived to departure the staff could have not been more helpful breakfast was excellent a real treasure of a hotel and we have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

Review 40:Excellent room for my 11 year old and I. The De- mure. Super helpful young lady on reception (Kelly I think) who sorted the room after a mix up with booking. Very clean room and comfortable bed, lovely breakfast. Nothing to fault.

Review 41:Room was very hot which made it difficult to sleep. We were also woken by the sound of water being pumped at 3am and this went on for about 45 minutes..

Review 42:Our room was comfy but only one armchair the toilet was a wet room for disabled people with a seat under the shower, I know we are old but not that old but didn't like to complain.

Review 43:Nice quiet area and the staff were very nice and good service

Review 44:not worth half of the £140 a night we paid breakfast very poor for price no fruit, one toaster to do own toast for all guests so always waiting to run and get there before anyone else.

Review 45:friendly helpful staff

Review 46:Not a bad experience but as we were late (but in time) for breakfast it was limited although I think they would have cooked something but it I don't think we would have wished to delay them

Review 47:Son in main building and our room in 'annexe' Shower blocked and unusable as tray flooded as soon as put on (only discovered this in the morning); either hotel knew or couldn't have been cleaned with water as would have been obvious. Long, sharp pin (probably from a wedding bouquet) on floor next to bed. 2 small blood marks on duvet cover and rip in cover. I sent my comment to the hotel but have heard nothing; I would not have written this review if I had had at least an acknowledgement.

Review 48:The welcoming staff and size of the quite comfortable room. Potentially a nice place to stay but disappointed by our experience.

Review 49:Room was not serviced. Poor information about hotel services. General lack of focused management. Staff very inexperienced and lacked direction.

Review 50:Leaving.

Review 51:The first room we were shown as was small and dark and smelt musty and this room wasnt what i had looked at online. But the new room we had was great.

Review 52:It was clean and tidy staff were over friendly

Review 53:Came for a friends wedding. Fabulous place to stay, staff very accommodating and coped with 20plus guests all eating breakfast at same time. Would highly recommend it.

Review 54:Booking.com have the wrong satellite navigation postcode so check with the hotel for how to reach them - in fact it would be quite easy to follow the directions to the museum.

Review 55:Once we found the hotel the staff were excellent and everything else you need for a comfortable stay. It is on the outskirts of Lowestoft so not walkable to the centre but it is a fast journey in by car and chargeable parking was easy to find, with some street parking available.

Review 56:The wifi wasn't great in our upstairs room, but fine in the bar and lounge.

Review 57:The friendliness of the staff, the cleanliness of the rooms and excellent carvery meal. This hotel has now included breakfast in its tariff and it was also very good.

Review 58:Did not like the long wait over 30 mins for the breakfast to be delivered once ordered. we found that some other guests were served before us even though we had sent the order in before them. Also there was no fruit or yoghurt freely available as you would expect in other hotels of that standard.

Review 59:Enjoyed the location and attractive surroundings. Comfortable rooms. The evening car very seemed very popular and good value .

Review 60:The only downside, and I have kept meaning to contact the hotel. I ate in the carvery on Saturday evening and had violent food poisoning Sunday afternoon which carried on all week. I only ate at the hotel all weekend from my arrival late Friday night so I can only have picked it up there which was a shame. I would stay again but would not eat there.

Review 61:The decoration was tasteful, the staff friendly and the room comfortable oh and a huge bath, really long, which I loved!

Review 62:Breakfast was a bit sparse and the food not the best, otherwise ok.

Review 63:The room was very comfortable for the tariff rate. The carvery was excellent value and the food good. The reception on arrival was particularly good, most helpful and made our stay more enjoyable.

Review 64:We liked everthing

Review 65:The staff were friendly the room lovely. The carvery restaurant was very nice and breakfast was very tasty would definately go again.

Review 66:Had slight problems getting WiFi in our room as we were just out of range, but there were plenty of areas in the lounge and bar that we could use where the access was fine.A very

Review 67:We have had two stays recently at the hotel and both times have been faultless. I would recommend this hotel, particularly the friendliness of all the staff, the comfortable rooms and the food was lovely. The carvery is very popular and very good value.

Review 68:Wi-fi was poor, where we were, connection too slow, no information pack in the room.

Review 69:Staff were helpful, room was excellent and clean, breakfast was good

Review 70:only one slight criticism, as this was a wedding reception I was a little surprised that the bar on opening didn't have any gin

Review 71:Staff well trained and attentive

Review 72:No tablecloths in the evenings.

Review 73:Friendliness of the staff throughout the hotel. Breakfast was superb. Carvery meal most enjoyable - lots of choice. Very popular with the locals and guests.

Review 74:The full English breakfast was a little disappointing.

Review 75:All staff were really friendly, happy and helpful. The night porter deserves a special thanks for going out of his way on his cycle in to work from Great Yarmouth to stop off and buy some soya milk for us!

Review 76:Booking.com wrongly adveraised this hotel as having a pool and spa and it doesn't. The pool is 2 miles away up the road.

Review 77:Beautifully equipped bedroom and bathroom

Review 78:No bible in room. Walls were like paper, you could hear the person next door as if he was in the same room as you. No information of the hotel in the room.

Review 79:Very clean, peaceful, friendly staff. Excellent room.

Review 80:No dislikes what so ever.

Review 81:Such friendly and helpful staff and a really friendly atmosphere will be back again and have already recommended it to my friends.

Review 82:The layout is difficult - especially the bar / dining areas. But they make the best of a problem hand. A young and inexperienced staff.

Review 83:Nothing was too much trouble.

Review 84:Small single room with less facilities at the same price as a double room No lift for the older person not mentioned on the hotel website

Review 85:Excellent Staff & Food

Review 86:Lovely stay. The room was gorgeous, we stayed in a newly built apartment just next to the main hotel. It was gorgeous. Lots of room, Underfloor heating. Would more then happy came back again. Value for money!!!! Cheapest hotel we have stayed in, but one of the nicest by far.

Review 87:Leaving to return home.

Review 88:From the moment we set foot in the hotel until we left two days later - the staff were very attentive, courteous and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. Food was excellent especially the carvery. Room was very spacious. Would definitely return when time permits

Review 89:Noisy heating pipes at night was woken at 2.30 am by thermostatic valve hammering as stat was fitted on return pipe not flow to the ladder rail in bathroom

Review 90:Staff very friendly & accommodating good food very happy to stay again

Review 91:Nothing stay wasn't long enough to use all facilities but will come again

Review 92:Staff were very helpful, room was nice size and well laid out, clean and comfortable Highly recommended

Review 93:We arrived at 11pm with our semi-sleeping son, the night porter was happily waiting for us and showed us to our room as he wanted to make sure the bed was made up for our son and that we would be warm enough !! What a great first impression.

Review 94:The hotel made a mistake on our bill and tried to overcharge us 20pounds. Also, the room was very cold when we got in, and I had to go and ask for the heating to be turned on.

Review 95:Friendly staff, cool decor, great food.

Review 96:Nothing.

Review 97:Easy to find and access. The location and facilities were good with all staff polite and helpful. I was there for pleasure on overnight stay for annual dinner in hotel (also good) and will go back for longer both pleasure and business. A bonus is East Anglian transport Museum located next door.

Review 98:Breakfast was not informed was not included in price of room ,bacon roll was cold porridge was disgusting not worth nine pounds !!!!

Review 99:Nice new room clean nice bed

Review 100:It wasn't that we didn't like our room but it needs a light over the mirror on the dressing table/desk, It was rather gloomy and no good for putting on make-up. Also, another chair in the room would have been good. The bed was hard and uncomfortable and I woke up each morning with an aching back. Hand rail on bath wall would have made me feel more secure too.

Review 101:We loved the staff, they were all friendly and efficient. The food was very good, this was borne out by there being 300 covers on Christmas Day!! (although the roast potatoes could have been more crispy!).

Review 102:I was there over Christmas so room service was limited but had a great time there.

Review 103:The hotel is clean and stylish and the staff go out of their way to help.

Review 104:People tended to use fire exit to go outside and smoke so lots of door slamming.

Review 105:Excellent service, Staff friendly. It was clean and decorated nicely. Food good and not expensive.

Review 106:My eggs Benedict did have a runny egg at breakfast, but was nonetheless very tasty - if that's the worst that happened over a very busy breakfast period, then that tells you how great it is!

Review 107:Loved everything, we stayed in a 4 poster room, jacussi bath, spacious room and comfy bed and the receptionist was brill! Would definitely stay again :-)

Review 108:Nothing....................I loved everything including the staff which is a rare thing to say these days.

Review 109:I cannot fault this Hotel in any way, we enjoyed it so much we re-booked to go again within the month. The staff are excellent and the food is fabulous, we stayed in room 18 and it was beautiful, like a little apartment away from the main hotel, Its part of the new build although we stayed in room 1 when we first visited which was also beautiful, I would rate this hotel one of the best I am one very happy customer and I am going to book again for myself and some friends in the new year I am so pleased we came across this hotel id give it 100% FANTASTIC....

Review 110:The decor is tasteful and the rooms are well equipped. The staff are friendly and efficient and very welcoming. We have stayed here three times now and the service has always been excellent. Although we didn't eat on this occasion the food is also excellent at this hotel.

Review 111:Booking.com said there is a pool and spa facilities but this is not true. If you look on the hotel's own website they do not mention any - and there aren't any. The bedrooms are fitted with night-lights into the ceiling. We couldn't see a way of switching these off and actually we found them to be so bright that we could not sleep properly. Other than that the rooms are very nice. Be wary of the postcode given by Booking.com. We were taken to the neighbouring village and had to use the road and village information to get us to the right place.

Review 112:Very friendly staff and nice hotel. Our room was nice and spacious but the single room we booked for our friend was very small.

Review 113:Very poor Restaurant food, after waiting 25 minutes for our starters thewaitress brought them out saying that she wasn't happy with theportion size ( ham hock Terrine) as there was only enough for 1 portionbut that they had divided into 2, she said she would take this off thebill which she did, we thought oh well these things happen. I hadordered the chicken Caesar salad what a disappointment a bowl of saladno dressing & a chicken portion cut in half & placed on top, thechicken was so dry it was inedible, the Rib eye steak that my husbandhad was very fatty. I complained to the waitress again & she agreedto take the Caesar salad off the bill. The Carvery was very busy perhapsthey should stick to this as they clearly are not capable of producinganything worth eating from the main menu.I Have never had to go back tomy room & have crisps for my evening meal before.I think the management need to address the Restaurant issues as it is letting the whole Hotel down, it spoilt what should have been a pleasant night away.

Review 114:Lovely location suited our needs well, efficient friendly check in, theroom was well appointed with a nice bathroom which was spotlessly clean. There was ample hot water in the evening & the morning.

Review 115:The restaurant menu is to limited needs more options.

Review 116:All round the hotel is excellent value for money. The carvery is the best stocked with the widest choice I have ever seen.

Review 117:Only being able to stay one night.

Review 118:We booked the hotel to celebrate my birthday and loved the four poster bed and the jacuzzi bath tub. We ate in the restaurant for the carvery which was great value and enjoyable.

Review 119:The staff were so helpful and friendly and the food was gorgeous

Review 120:We just loved this hotel. We can't fault it in any way one of the nicest we have ever stayed in.the staff especially Jo were outstanding. The food was not only excellent but it was also really cheap we are going back in three weeks as it was so good and so reasonable I would definitely recommend this little gem

Review 121:Very difficult to find. Putting the address into your satnav takes you miles away. Narrow unlit roads hinder your search. Hotel aware of the problem but nothing has been done.

Review 122:Carvery very good, nice room and plenty of parking.

Review 123:Advance credit card charge of £30/night for potential use of restaurant and bar even though we had no intention of using it. Room booked for 2 occupants but was set up as single occupancy with one towel set etc. Main hotel lacked character and charm. Breakfast served only up to 9am on a weekday and checking out by 10am seems to early in our opinion. Limited local options for food.

Review 124:Room was spacious and clean with modern facilities

Review 125:Thin walls between bedrooms, very basic breakfast, pillows need renewing, extractor fan in bathroom very loud but ineffective.

Review 126:Nice gardens, modern decor.

Review 127:Breakfast was very slow. The toaster was faulty and this resulted in the fire alarm going off. We had to leave our tables for some time. This was the only problem we encountered, but I would return - they would have probably replaced the toaster.

Review 128:Room was very clean and spacious with all basic amenities. Bed was very comfortable. We ordered some room service since we arrived late - although it was just sandwiches, they were quite tasty and fresh. Receptionist was very helpful and printed our boarding passes. We asked housekeeping for an ironing board and this was delivered within 3 minutes.

Review 129:There wasn't anything we didn't like!

Review 130:My husband and I stayed here for two nights with my elderly parents. The hotel decor was very nice, including public areas and our two rooms. The staff were all really pleasant and friendly and went the extra mile to help (especially Jo Jo - what a lovely lady). The value for money was good, especially the carvery - a choice of 3 meats and a huge choice of accompaniments. Wine was reasonably priced too. Convenient for the A12 to get to other places of interest. We would definitely stay here again.

Review 131:As much as I loved the friendly welcome by the receptionist, I found the staff in the restaurant to be inconfident and not too efficient, slow in their service, and the atmosphere in the restaurant - mainly because we were the only two diners - was not great.

Review 132:On arrival at this hotel, I loved the warm friendly welcome and with an attitude that they would do anything to help our stay pleasant. We were offered the choice of a change of room which we took, and had a newly furnished large room at no extra charge. The whole save I found this member of staff - and I am sorry I did not get her name - very accommodating and friendly. I like this hotel, we are staying at Christmas and it is very near my mother in law - so a convenient location.

Review 133:Upon welcome we was not given a welcome pack by the staff, so we was woken up every morning by the cleaners. We asked for a do not disturb sign but the staff didn't know where they were. We was given one toilet roll for the four days that we stayed. We asked for more but the staff just wondered of never to be seen again. The bar had one till and two staff members fighting over who should use it. At breakfast we was only given a cup of tea each when we asked for a pot. The sat nav couldn't find the location. Overall, poor.

Review 134:The hotel was clean, pretty good with its facilities that offered great sized bathrooms.

Review 135:Surprised to find breakfast not included in deal. This needs to be made more clear on the Booking.com site. Breakfast rather poor - coffee and tea undrinkable ! Evening carvery very popular with local families !

Review 136:Cleanliness - parking facilities - reasonable location for Lowestoft. Evening carvery meal good value for money and very tasty.

Review 137:Nothing really that is worth making a fuss about, given what it is fair to expect for the price. My Mum found the pillows a bit too hard! Apart from that, it ticks all the boxes for a short break in the area or conference/event venue.

Review 138:Friendly and considerate staff. Thoughtful towards their older visitors. Decent bar food and fair bar prices. Great fishy breakfasts. Good wifi throughout building. Easy access, plentiful parking, nice gardens etc etc
