Reviews for Abbots Mead Hotel

Review 1:Was woken by some other, noisier, guests returning in the small hours.

Review 2:Had a en-suite double room for one. A nice clean and fully modernised room in an older property that has been extended. Friendly reception, bar and breakfast staff and an excellent cooked breakfast. Central location in Shrewsbury. Parking right outside.

Review 3:Located very near the centre of the town. The breakfast was very tasty and plentiful. The atmosphere in the hotel was friendly and comfortable. We would return.

Review 4:This place is stuck in the 80s. Shabby decor, the most uncomfortable mattress I've slept on in a hotel for years, musty smell in the hallways and bedroom, poor wifi (1-2mbps) and topped off with a badly done cooked breakfast.

Review 5:Good central location

Review 6:Lovely staff, felt welcome and they were so accommodating. Even got me special food in for breakfast as a coeliac. Rooms were lovely and comfortable, a very good size and facilities were brilliant. Had access to and iron when needed. Free parking which was brilliant. Location was excellent, just a few minutes walk to the centre but far enough away that it was quiet and peaceful so got a great nights sleep.

Review 7:Bathroom extraction noisy .

Review 8:Staff very friendly and accommodating. Location perfect. Breakfast tasty and not too much!! Comfortable beds. Homely. Parking on site.

Review 9:The reception area could do with a little updating.

Review 10:The location was brilliant. The bedroom was small but clean and the veggie breakfast and eating area were lovely.

Review 11:The noise outside the hotel at night from people out on the town. Also the car parking was very tricky. We had to leave our car keys at reception for the staff to move cars that were obstructing another car as the parking was very tight. I wasn't happy about that.

Review 12:The location in the centre of Shrewsbury was convenient.

Review 13:One of the 3 rooms was cold, with the radiator not working. It was unable to be fixed whilst we were there but another form of heating was supplied.

Review 14:It was family run and we were made very welcome. We felt we became a small part of their lives, as they were so friendly, especially as it was the Owners birthday while we were there.

Review 15:It was a pleasure to be looked after by such a welcoming team. From the moment that the lovely Carolina smiled and chatted while serving a superb full English breakfast, to the time that I said good-bye, I felt in excellent hands. And the location is superb - within walking distance of the town centre, the station, and the attractive riverside area of Coleham. It was also excellent value.

Review 16:Went a walk a long the river on Saturday morning and it was cold and raining any chance I've a refund Lol! ?

Review 17:The staff made us feel at ease and nothing was any problem. Had lovely breakfasts but the highlight was the tomato ? Sorry an in house joke . Hope to see you again ?

Review 18:No free parking available as advertised. Be prepared to park in nearby car park at additional cost and inconvenience.

Review 19:Good location. Comfortable rooms. Nice breakfast

Review 20:Single B&B rate in reception states £60 per night. I Was charged through Booking.com £75 ??? Room was dirty, stains on carpets and paint peeling off walls. Also, which I think if health & safety paid a visit would seriously have something to say was that all of the windows in my room were nailed shut. Glad there wasn't a fire!!!!

Review 21:All staff were lovely. Great breakfast.

Review 22:I personally do not like electric showers.

Review 23:Very friendly staff and great location in the middle of the old town and right by the river walk. Lovely breakfast. Good value and undeserving of some of the bad reviews we saw, which luckily did not put us off going!

Review 24:Rather tired hotel. Room small; shower pitiful; TV did not work properly. Free parking is quite limited and full when we arrived but there is a public car park very close (fee payable).

Review 25:Location is great.

Review 26:Nobody to help carry cases up 2 flights of stairs. Room very small and could here everything going on in the bathroom. Breakfast the first day was excellent but obviously a different person cooked on the second day and the plate was swimming in grease and not enjoyable.

Review 27:Location of hotel.

Review 28:Our room was quite small.

Review 29:Comfortable stay for two nights. Very handy indeed for the town itself. Breakfast was served at our table, which is not always the case these days. Shrewsbury, by the way, is a very civilised place.

Review 30:The car parking was a little cramped.

Review 31:The reception was welcoming and they changed the room to the first floor from the second as my wife has limited mobility. Went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. Pleasant and helpful.

Review 32:Bed2 funny damp smell room very small. NO hanging space for clothes not even a rail. The bed was hard but clean.

Review 33:Easily accessible. Very clean, the staff very helpful.

Review 34:The hotel is ideally located for the town of Shrewsbury & lovely walks along the river. The staff are incredibly friendly & helpful. The hotel itself is spotlessly clean & the rooms are very comfortable. Highly recommended!

Review 35:Old mattress, room cramped, street noisy all night. Also fire alarm went off and was told it is dodgy - needs addressing as a matter of urgency.

Review 36:Good location, good breakfasts.

Review 37:Our room and bathroom a little small but this did not spoil our stay at all.

Review 38:Owners very friendly and personable. Small individual hotel in excellent location for Shrewsbury

Review 39:Had everything we needed, comfortable room, lots of choice at breakfast and a good quiet location within walking distance of all the main attractions.

Review 40:This is the second time I've stayed at Abbots mead and again it was clean comfortable and the staff were freindly and helpful. Location is excellent - Right on the edge of the Inner "centre" of town but quiet and with a lovely riverside walk less than a hundred yards away...

Review 41:Car parking is a bit of a pain, with cars having to be shuffled to let others out. The hotel, whilst comfortable, is in need of some fresh decoration.

Review 42:Hotel was in an excellent position close to the town and river walks. The breakfasts were very good with a reasonable choice.

Review 43:There was nothing we didn't like

Review 44:Clean, comfy B & B with free parking on site. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the location was absolutely perfect for the town and also the gorgeous walk along the river. Breakfast was great too. We would definitely recommend this B & B.

Review 45:a bit tricky to get to as the street is pedestrianised so you have to go round, but it wasn't too difficult. Parking places are quite narrow but at least it has plenty! I was a bit nervous leaving my car key at reception in case they needed to move my car, but in the end I was around so I did it.

Review 46:Eileen, Barry & Andrew go out of their way to make you feel welcome and give you all the home comforts (eg tea & coffee facilities in the room), so it's a proper family-run B&B, rather than an impersonal hotel chain - perfect. Breakfast menu & choices was impressive (something for everyone) and breakfast was very relaxing. The room was very homely and the bed comfortable. A great selection of newspapers to read. Only a stone's throw from the centre, and all the lovely quirky shops.

Review 47:Friendly service. Excellent breakfast Close proximity to both river and town centre. Having a parking space and not having to find a street parking place which may not be local to the hotel.

Review 48:Our stay unfortunately coincided with the July heatwave and our room, which faced west, was extremely warm and airless. Even though this was not the hotel's fault, a fan may have helped.

Review 49:Its location was perfect for access to the centre of Shrewsbury. Breakfast was good.

Review 50:- had a shower but prefer a bath. - perhaps some background music in restaurant to avoid people listening to their eating!

Review 51:Family run and friendly. Good, central location.

Review 52:I did not mind, but there are lots of stairs as old building so probably not suitable for those who are unable to climb. Possible ground floor rooms available.

Review 53:Friendly staff, very clean and lovely decorated rooms. Breakfast excellent. Location superb with access to town centre and a river walk to local Quarry park. Will definitely stay again when in Shrewsbury.

Review 54:If you are not a good walker it is a bit steep to come into the middle of time, but there is a flat and very pleasant walk along the river.

Review 55:The closeness to the beautiful town center. Very friendly and helpful owner. Good parking.

Review 56:Very comfortable facilities, friendly helpful staff and brilliant location. Breakfasts were lovely and quickly produced. Easy to walk into the shops and sights.

Review 57:Parking is restricted - so don't arrive too late. Décor is a bit dated - but did not affect the experience.

Review 58:Friendly staff and an excellent breakfast. Would recommend this hotel.

Review 59:Parking was a bit of a nuisance to get out in the morning of our departure but nothing major.

Review 60:Nice rooms and the dining , breakfast roof was very tasteful plus the breakfast on both occasions was perfectly cooked

Review 61:The electricity in the room seemed to be at fault. The lightbulb in the lamp exploded. Told staff of this - they changed the bulb straight away but we still found traces of glass on the carpet. My hairdryer stopped working although when I got home it worked again.

Review 62:The breakfast was excellent. Location was ideal.

Review 63:Room was quite small but was sufficient for our needs for a 1 night stay.

Review 64:Location good, near to town centre. Breakfast was good too - good choice available. Friendly hosts.

Review 65:The staff were lovely, rooms clean and comfortable and the breakfast was great, what more can you ask for? Also nice to have free parking, as not many places do in shrewsbury.

Review 66:They opened the window of the room but could not shut it later. This meant that the room became rather cold.

Review 67:The hotel was clean and comfortable and the staff were pleasant.

Review 68:Bed shrieked as I got out of it, though otherwise comfortable

Review 69:Great location. Staff exceptionally pleasant and helpful. Parking just outside. Great breakfasts. Defective shaver light repaired promptly.

Review 70:Shower wasn't the most powerful, but not the end of the world.

Review 71:Location, very amicable staff, good breakfast. First time in Shrewsbury and would stay here again.

Review 72:Very central location right in the centre of Shrewsbury. Owners were very helpful in every regard. Great value and excellent breakfast offer. Rooms are a little dated but spotlessly clean. Excellent value for the price.

Review 73:Disappointed that the WiFi connection was poor

Review 74:Lovely to have such a large room, with a comfortable bed and sofa. Fantastic location. Free parking. Great breakfast. Friendly, helpful staff

Review 75:No negatives for our stay

Review 76:Perfect location for our one night stay Rooms clean, tidy and of a good size Off road parking Comprehensive full English breakfast with a choice of cerials and fruit juices Friendly and helpful staff

Review 77:Just disappointed with the shower. Although we are finding the little electric showers used in so many accommodation places leave a lot to be desired. Having said that I would stay again.

Review 78:Made to feel very welcome. Friendly staff. Great breakfast. Comfy room. Right in the middle of town with good parking.

Review 79:Basement room allocated as we took our german shepherd had tiled floors and enough room for large dog bed. Chilly on the feet (take slippers), but great not to worry about dog & carpet. No restaurant for evening meal but owners very helpful and happy for us to bring in a takeaway and provided us with plates and cutlery and offered us sauces. For the record, this review insists we are either young or 'mature', we are somewhere in the middle.

Review 80:Shower was a little slow in our ensuite although hot water was constant and plentiful.

Review 81:Reception gentleman very helpful, welcoming and efficient. Breakfast selection fresh, hot items well cooked and serving staff prompt and friendly. Free car parking for hotel patrons on site although also public car park right opposite hotel.

Review 82:We felt it was slightly overpriced compared to some deals you can get in Shrewsbury that offer the same amenities

Review 83:Helpful staff, nothing was too much trouble.

Review 84:If I were being 'nitpicky', I would have liked a towel rail in the ensuite. The toilet seat was a bit loose too, but I reported that and was told that it would be fixed - which I am sure it would be as the hosts seemed genuinely helpful and trustworthy.

Review 85:Hard to find any fault - very friendly hosts, convenient location, free on-site parking and gorgeous breakfast. Rooms clean and comfortable, décor very fresh and pretty.

Review 86:Room was too cold. Radiator not on when arrived after 6.00 pm. Took long time to warm up and again cold when awoke.

Review 87:Location. breakfast and availability of parking.

Review 88:Not a criticism but a little bit of sprucing up of the property would be beneficial and a few additional finishing touches would really make it an exceptional place to stay.

Review 89:Location excellent. Very good breakfast. Free car park. Comfortable bed.

Review 90:We had a lovely stay at this hotel. Very helpful owners and room was comfortable with good location near the centre of town. Breakfast was great - we liked the little menu that we could choose from as well as the buffet selection. We were made to feel very welcome and we think care and attention went into the little details, such as providing a high chair for our baby son without our even asking at breakfast time. We would recommend this hotel and in fact have already done so!

Review 91:Friendly helpful staff and good breakfast. Although the room was not large all usual facilities were available and space used well. Excellent advice given re local area and restaurants. Location very good for visiting Shrewsbury and also for accessing routes to surrounding countryside

Review 92:Excellent location right near the town and places of interest. The onsite parking was a big bonus. Staff very helpful and the breakfast was excellent. Would definately recommend this hotel.

Review 93:We liked everything.

Review 94:Everything.As a former resident of Shrewsbury, it was a pleasure to have a weekend in such a friendly hotel. The breakfast was the best I have had in a hotel in many years.

Review 95:Taps at the sink did not have a hot & cold water mixer. So one had either very hot water or very cold water at any point in time with which to wash one's hands or brush one's teeth etc.

Review 96:Almost everything; especially the hospitality of the owners & staff.

Review 97:Hotel was lovely. Staff very friendly. Location was perfect. Really pleased they could cater for 2 adults and 3 children. Our children loved staying there. We would definitely book their again if we were booking back in the area.

Review 98:Decor a bit tired and old-fashioned (even for a building of c.1800). Room on the small side with inadequate space for clothes.

Review 99:Very convenient location on the edge of the town centre. Parking spaces! (Rare as hen's teeth in central Shrewsbury.) Friendly staff.

Review 100:The great location does mean that a few people wander past after a few beers in early hours but no big deal. Benefits of location outweigh this tiny issue.

Review 101:Great Location Warm Welcome Great Breakfast Comfortable place to stay No unnecessary frills that you don't need! Shrewsbury is AMAZING!!!!! Would defo return and recommend.

Review 102:The hotel is very nice and welcoming. The location is excellent and you can't fault the rooms. Plenty of thing to do and nice bars of restaurants. Highly recommended and the breakfast is very nice and nice eating area.

Review 103:The fact that we only had two nights and one day for our stay.

Review 104:Less than 100 metres to the start of the town centre but no traffic noise, it was also less than 200 metres from the river. Very friendly staff and an excellent breakfast.

Review 105:I left my coat behind! Noisy guests coming in at 3am

Review 106:Caring attitude of housekeeper when she realised I was sick. Very comfortable bed. Excellent bath. Excellent location. Friendly, helpful manager

Review 107:Room a bit small with inadequate lighting but otherwise very good.

Review 108:Clean and comfortable hotel with car parking situated in the centre of Shrewsbury and within easy reach of all amenities. Good breakfast.

Review 109:A small problem. Because the room is so large, the TV screen needs to be larger. Also, because of recent road re-design, access would be improved by including , in the directions, a note that the hotel is near the foot of Wye Cop.

Review 110:What a marvellous hidden gem is the Abbots Mead Hotel. Where else could possibly find a decent hotel, with free parking and an excellent breakfast right in the Shrewsbury town centre, for the price charged. The breakfast was all that one would want, cooked to order. It's location was walking distance to all the main sights and close to Greyfriars Bridge and the walk along the river. We will be recommending this hotel to anyone wanting accommodation in Shrewsbury.

Review 111:Nothing.

Review 112:Very historical location for either a weekend or as a base for exploring the area. Excellent friendly staff where nothing was too much trouble for them. Lots going on in the area, would certainly recommend this Hotel and Citu as a great destination.

Review 113:The hotel was rather shabby but this did not detract too much. The shower was over the bath and just adequate; a shower compartment with a good pressure shower would be preferable.

Review 114:An excellent hotel for visiting Shrewsbury. We were warmly welcomed and parking was easy. The twin room (16) was ideal for two friends sharing, spacious and with well separated and comfortable beds. We loved the ample shelf space in the bathroom, something not often seen in hotels at this price. The breakfast (full English) was freshly cooked and service was good.

Review 115:Very small bathroom, everything you need but a tight squeeze.

Review 116:An excellent location once you find how to get to it without a trip round the one way system ( read the hotel`s web site properly!) We had a quiet room at the back and a good night`s sleep. A nice freshly cooked breakfast the next morning .Nice people running the hotel, not a faceless place.

Review 117:Far too hot in the room. Window did open but only a little. A fan would have been very much appreciated in this heat wave

Review 118:Location. friendly staff. great food

Review 119:Stairs - OAP guest (I should have mentioned) Close to a bar with noisy night revellers

Review 120:Excellent location within town, friendly staff, nice garden in view of room and breakfast restaurant

Review 121:Breakfast was a little too greasy. And only 1 sausage. But it was tasty.

Review 122:The location was superbly central, although a little noisy as its a thru road between the town centre and the river.

Review 123:Central location Parking Good breakfast Clean and comfortable room

Review 124:Good location very friendly and helpful staff excellent value for money very good breakfast

Review 125:Key given and how to find room / which door to come in through .....nothing else at all. Would have liked more information

Review 126:Location

Review 127:Location was perfect, right in the centre of town and opposite a very good curry house.

Review 128:Really well situated for access to the town. Pleasant staff and really comfortable room. Breakfast was really good with plenty of choice.

Review 129:Parking was restricted, as expected for town centre location.

Review 130:Town centre location, easy access to facilities and shopping.
